That's true.

However, Inter is the best Scudetto candidate, losing against them is not catastrophe.

Some transfers, please, Berlusconi.

Missed it by a smallest margin.
Nesta lost his sharpness after 2003/2004 season. Since then, he's not as sharp as before and he relies more on his positional sense. But losing his sharpness made him from one of the best defenders ever to "just" best defender at the time. His sharpness is not coming back definitely. But nobody have to talk about our center defense pair, because it's world-class already.

Leo: 'Gattuso sparked chain reaction'
Saturday 29 August, 2009
Leonardo said there was a “chain reaction” from Gennaro Gattuso's injury that led to Milan's capitulation in the derby.

“Up until the first goal I'd say Milan were right there against a tough and organised team. After that we struggled to deal with the difficult moment and that is something we need to improve,” said the Coach after a 4-0 defeat to Inter.

The game changed when Gattuso picked up an ankle injury, brought down Samuel Eto'o for a penalty and was sent off before half-time, all while he was waiting for a substitution.

“Gattuso got hurt and had to keep coming off for treatment. It was our free kick and he had to run back and gave away this penalty.

“He was meant to come off, [Clarence] Seedorf wasn't ready, and the delay proved decisive. He is in hospital now for tests and those minutes made all the difference.”
The biggest problem seemed to be psychological, as Milan visibly crumbled once Inter took the lead.

“I think there was a little uncertainty, but also a series of incidents that made it tougher for us. Gattuso was injured and struggled to get back, so the delay in preparing Seedorf due to a calf problem added up and the game changed.

“When a player is injured and gets there after his opponent, these things can happen. It was just one thing after another and it turned into a chain reaction. This penalty would never have happened if Gattuso had been fit.”

Leonardo stood up for Ronaldinho, who was jeered by the fans when he was replaced in the second half.

“Ronaldinho didn't have a great performance, but I don't think it is right to make individual criticism. As a team we did not deal with the situation properly and that is what we must work on.

“The 4-3-1-2 system with Ronaldinho is a little different and he can play a more advanced role, so to sustain this trident we need a very compact midfield.
We achieved that in the first half-hour, but then things happened and we cannot judge the squad on these two games alone.”

The Rossoneri had started strongly with a 2-1 victory at Siena, but can this result rule them out of the Scudetto race in Week 2?

“Milan need to have their own identity. Inter have certainty from recent years, whereas we are under construction and this defeat does not stop us from going forward and improving. We are a step behind the strongest team in Serie A.

“We are having problems down the left flank. We have tried to improve the squad with full-backs and haven't been able to get them yet, so we must work overall to make the movement better.”

its sad that we looked so awful especially considering that Storari made some class saves to keep the score from going totally crazy.

I want to get G Rossi to replace Dinho BADLY. he would add much needed pace.

i would like to make a move for rafinha and Vargas.

Pathetic capitulation, yet the players (Gattuso excepted), r not to b blamed.

The team needed to be reinforced, it wasn't, this is the result.

Berlu, ante up, or sell the club.

Tough defeat for the rookie manager. Hopefully he will learn from this.

but really it is not the end of the world. we are in transition. Roll on 24 January 2010.

This is why i feel for Leo. Ancelotti at least had past experience as a manager to base his decisions against. As Leo has never managed before so it is all trial and error for him. Leo has been given alot of bad eggs to cook with.. Even Terim got what players he wanted..

You know what? I've been thinking about it, since it seems obvious we won't be getting anyone (who would've wanted Crisicto on our left side today?).

If I was Milan's manager, I would tell Flamini to **** himself, and play him at RB, Zambro will take the left side. That's sorted.

My midfield is Abate, Seedorf, and Ambro. Sure, Ambro doesn't work like Gattuso or Flamini, but he is more calm and provides a heading threat on the corners we continually waste. Abate injects tremendous pace from the midfield, and can actually cross. Seedorf keeps his spot as long as he wants to put forth the effort. Otherwise, it's between him and Pirlo.

Dinho keeps his place, not because I believe in him right now, but because we have no other option. Everyone praises Dinho for his training, well, I want to see him run back for the ball. Pato and Seedorf did that, why the hell can't he?

My lineup:

-----------Storari
Flamini--Nesta--Silva--Zambro
--Abate---Seedorf--Ambro
-----------Dinho
----Pato---------Huntelaar

Honestly, looking at how Seedorf plays now that he knows he's not first choice, I have to wonder, would Dinho play as well if he had competition? What stops me from thinking that is, he has everything to play for. To prove his critics wrong, to get into that Brazil World Cup squad, but it just doesn't seem to click.

Leonardo is right, our midfield is not compact enough to sustain the attacking trio. That's the reason why I don't fault Dinho completely today. However, he did play like garbage, that I will say. Gattuso lost his mind, and Flamini really wasn't that poor. Maybe the first goal was his fault (Janku deserves blame too, though) but he was one of the few forces in midfield to grab possession and actually do something with it.

Ronaldinho invariably plays well only when there is a passing threat from our midfield, also, if our strikers were willing to move. Pato, full marks for effort. Borriello? I've said enough about him.

Seedorf really didn't look like "Slowdorf" and I was actually quite impressed with him. I think Pirlo should be dropped for Seedorf and either Abate and Flamini flank Seedorf or Ambro and Abate.

I still don't understand how Abate hasn't played a single minute yet. Fine, this game aside, but why not against Siena? Whatever, it's done, now its time to see what Leonardo does from here.
