The one thing that has been proven yet again and I say is one of the most important parts of modern football is the absolute importance of a trequaresta's role in football. Everytime every game this to me is getting confirmed more than ever. The people who say that the trequaresta's role in modern football is disappearing is not making sense since a trequaresta can give teams an edge through the hole and provide for the sides better than a playmaking central/defensive midfielder.

Sneijder, Kaka, Gerrard in some instances, Lampard, Ballack (not any more a trequaresta except with Germany), Diego, Totti, Trika, etc.....

Something else to have a treuaresta in your squad, it makes it an even better thing for your formation.

but here is another thing, Ronaldinho is best utilised as a winger and if he had came to Inter, that's where he would have played.

That's not necessarily true, Karim. If a team plays in a system that utilizes a trequartista, then he is very valuable. But if a team plays in a system with 2 wingers for instance, then there is not much need for a trequartista. This was the system Mourinho used in his early Chelsea days. Robben and Duff on the wings with defenders and midfielders hoofing up long balls and bypassing the midfield straight to the fast wingers who would cross for Drogba to score.

Inter now need a trequartista because they lost Ibra. So now the team has to play with the ball on the ground and build the game up from midfield to attack.

Dinho hasn't been a decent winger in 4-3-3 for at least these 3 past years Karim. I think Leo acknoledges that. That's why he puts him as a trequartista in 4-3-1-2 as eventhough he doesn't have that 10 to 15-metre sprint that made him famous in his Barca heydays, he still have that magic passes like in the game against Siena.

Ok, I give you that he can play as a trequaresta, but he still then would need people to play with him and support him, and that is what Milan need right now. Before you needed a new back line, now you need a whole need midfield as well.

Or we start playing Ronnie as a second striker as Berlu suggests. That way it's less running and more action in the penalty area. He just needs to beat a man with his technique then he's free to shoot on goal or make an assist. As trequartista he oftens beats a man then gets let down by his lack of pace.

Berlu's idea is actually good, Seedorf to play as a trequaresta and Ronaldinho supporting Pato or Huntelaar is a good one.
But I'd rather see Pato supporting Huntelaar, Ronaldinho in the wing, Seedorf with Gattuso and Pirlo in DM.

I don't think it would help. A second striker must be willing to move around the final third of the pitch in order to open up spaces, if he doesn't then it will be very easy to defend against. The only advantage Dinho gains by playing there is he's closer to goal and so has the extra threat of shooting quickly.

To get more success, Dinho simply must move much more. If he won't or is incapable of doing so, then he must be benched by Leo, as he will only hamper the team, especially in the modern game where movement is paramount. Him being in the starting lineup is already imbalancing the side, and if on top of that he fails to perform to the expected standard then we have no chance of playing coherently.

I think we have some positions well defined... this time, starting the analysis from the top...

as striker, Huntelaar (typical number 9)... with Inzaghi as back up...
as supporting striker, Pato...

(Borriello still has not defined with action what he should be, something in between)

Ronaldinho, a right footed player who used to be excellent as left wing (when he had Messi doing the same thing on the other side) became too predictable there... I agree with Leo/Berlu to play him as trequartista... but he needs to do in the games the things he's know for in training... not just fancy tricks for show, but to surprise rivals...

Then what is to me the key... the midfield... that's were we're wrong...

Pirlo is playing because he's Pirlo... I love the guy, but he's very far from the old Pirlo who was marvelous in the WC'06... I'd play Seedorf in his role, like he used to do at Ajax many years ago, and he did great for 2-3 games when Pirlo was injured 2 seasons ago...
or Rino... in Pirlo's position (not role, just position) in front of Nesta/Thiago...

leaving Flamini on the right, and someone from DiGe/Ambro/Janku as left midfielder...

With Zambrotta on the left flank, and make Oddo train in Lazio gear to remind him who he is... or turn Abate into a RB like Lippi did with Zambrotta years ago...

Then I'd just wish for Abbiati to return... and for next season, I'd get rid of Dida, Storari, and Roma... get a #1 keeper with Abbiati as sub...

My line up:

------------------Huntelaar----------------
-------------------------------Pato--------
----------Ronaldinho-----------------------
---Ambrosini-------------------Flamini------
----------------Seedorf--------------------
Zambrotta----------------------------Abate
-----------Thiago S.------Nesta------------
--------------------------------------------
--------------------Abbiati-----------------

And suddenly all of you put Slowdorf's name on starting XI? The same old Slowdorf all of you mocked, insulted, and rejected during summer mercato? The so-called deadweight? The man all of you said isn't worthy anymore to be starter and only deserves backup role for the great Dinho?

^^ Seedorf put in a lot of effort in the Inter game while Pirlo was pretty pedestrian. I agree with Sant, we might as well try him...it really can't get any worse than it already is. Or maybe try Janku at LCM and Antonini at LB. If Seedorf sucks you can always remove him and play Abate at RCM and shift Flamini into the middle.

Seedorf in your formation would be much more forward than that, because he can't defend
