This was THE year for the Germans if they wanted to get ahead of Serie A......but they are failing miserably. They only have 3 teams in the CL to begin with and on top of that only two have a good chance of making in through (Wolfsburg and Stuttgart). Although I wouldn't be surprised if only 1 goes through in the end because both of them got some work to do in the last 2 matchdays.

Bayern will go out. It's just too difficult for them now. Juventus plays against Bordeaux before they play with Bayern and with the Germans being 4 points behind Juve right now...that last game can very well be meaningless. Looking at Juventus, I think they'll be through and possibly even beat Bordeaux in France. (Bordeaux is a great team, dangerous.....but I don't think they are as good as a full strength Juventus)

Fiorentina should also be able to go through. They will probably win against Lyon (Lyon is already qualified, can't see them put out a 100% line up in Italy...even though like you said, their first 11 got outplayed the first game anyway). But even if Fiorentina draws Lyon, they will be allowed to lose against Liverpool. As long as it is with only a 1 goal difference. (because they won 2-0 in Italy) Either way, it's highly unlikely that Liverpool will make it through now. Fiorentina basically has to self-destruct for that to happen.

Inter will make it through. Like you said, no matter what happens in Spain they just have to beat Rubin Kazan in the last game.

So it looks like a good year for the Italians in the CL. For the first time in a while it looks like Italy will be the only nation to enter the knock-out stages with 4 teams. All the teams are in great positions, and have everything in their own hands.

As for the Europa League...the Germans are in a slightly better position but it's not over yet.
Roma is almost qualified (if they beat Basel at hom in the next game they are through), while Lazio is in a tough spot....but will still go through with 2 wins (They play Salzburg and Levski Sofia). Genoa is in a decent situation as there can be a lot of manipulation in that group, so with a couple of positive results (a draw + a win / or two draws + luck) they should go through. The problem for them is that they have a very tough group.

Anyhow.....we kind of got way off topic.

But just to conclude.....the way things are right now Italy will keep its current 3rd ranking for at least another 2 years. Because next year(2010/2011) we'll have 4 in the CL regardless of what happens this year. But like I said, the way things are going with the Germans this year.....we will keep those 4 spots untill at least (2011/2012). Because remember, what happens this year doesn't effect next year's entries (2010/2011).....but the entries for the year after that (2011/2012).

BTW here'some good news for italy this week concerning the coeffecient ranking...

4 italian teams in the CL ---> 4 wins

Ofcourse if you qualify to the next round in the CL you get much more points than when you qualify in the Europa league. Unfortunately the Italian teams do not look like they can do well in Europa, maybe only Roma can come out of the group as they are in second now... if Genoa beat Valencia at home then they move into second place too... lazio are current tied in second place with villareal..

In the CL, all of the italian teams are current in the qualifying positions... however I believe Juventus have a very tough game against bayern munich, they have to avoid defeat to qualify.. (we really need juve to make it, cause its a head to head battle with the germans)

Inter are playing at the nou camp and will lose and will drop down to 3rd spot and will have a home game against Kazan at the end.. i dont believe in them but they should make it.

Fiorentina need to either avoid defeat against Liverpool at anfield (they will lose) OR they have to beat Lyon at Stadio Franchi (fiorentina are a better team than Lyon..they whooped their butts in the first game this year but lyon were lucky to win)..

Milan - i believe shouldn't have a problem getting first spot..

we all really need the four italians to make it to the next round so we don't lose that fourth champions league spot. the problem is the germans will focus on the europa league and thats how their coeffecients goes so high up every year.

we already overtook bundslega.

wrong. We have LIMITED funds, we were going to pay 20-25 for dzeko. But Galliani is taking an EXTREMELY conservative approach. Its not a bad thing but he simply can't 'gamble' the way other clubs do....

also i cant necesarily say i disagree. Not ever 21 year old who can dribble is worth 10 mil. There are deals to be had. We got gourcuff for 4.5 mil? Kaka was 10. Silva for less than 10. And on and on...

The thing that gives me hope about those primavera players we are signing is that Leonardo is choosing the players he wants in his squad. But DO NOT BE FOOLED, all the big teams are doing this, not just Milan. The thing we didnt sign a young player for 5 years is a different matter...

Those signings are not the ONLY thing we need. Every great european team needs 2,3 great players in the mercato. CL winning team cannot be built with U20 players who cost 1.5mln...

I do support players like Adiyilah ( sp? ), Verdi, and those new boys, but lets not be naive - Milan needs 3 serious players to lift this team: CF, CM and one FB.

Cissokho showed he was a great pick by Leo, again. Too bad Silvio didnt want to pay, the man is playing great!

Lets just hope that in the summer Milan will have some money ( I still dont understand how we CANNOT INVEST 30-40mln per summer! ) and invest normally in few players!

news: Miloš Krasić ( CSKA ) says that he wants to leave the club and from all the offers he would choose Milan...

We spend our non eu place on Adiyiah, but that doesnt mean HE will be registred for serie a. He can be loaned out and Krasic can play. He can play wide right position as his natural, and also in the middle right or center.

I havent been following his CLOSELY, but from what I've seen it is an extremly powerfull and talented player. Worker with technique and also tactical awarness. I would take him right now in Milan if I could. Absolutely a potential class midfielder.

Aldough, dont take my word literrary as there is a possibility that I may be wrong a bit as. as I say, I havent been following him CLOSELY. I watched the games and saw his shiny moments, but never looked at his movements strictly etc.

Also, some guy in here, from Bosnia, says his agent gave an interwiew for Bosnian sports papers and said Krasic will be in Milan in january. So he says, papers say something every day so...

but we can't get him.. you know why? cause we got Adiyiah. If I were to pick one of these players for January - then it would be Krasic for sure.

However - it seemed that there was a big deal on his annual salary so I guess that means we will be keeping him.

in italy there are ways to acquire non-eu players even if you don't have a space from him in your team.

just add a million or two and make parma buy him, then loan him to you. then next mercato you can transfer his contract to u

Inter are reportedly considering swapping highly-rated young full-back Davide Santon for Parma midfielder McDonald Mariga.

Santon is struggling to reach the levels he scaled last season and is said to have cried when watching a recent mistake made against Palermo.

He was subsequently dropped for last weekend's match against Livorno and needs first team football if he is to remain in contention for a place in Marcello Lippi's World Cup squad.

Genoa has been mentioned as a possible location away from the bright lights of Milan where Santon could develop his talent.

However, Inter are now thought to be considering using Santon as a bargaining chip to sign Mariga from Parma.

The Kenya international is attracting interest from Italy's biggest clubs and has long been linked with Inter's cousins Milan.

At 22, Mariga would be a long-term replacement for Sulley Muntari who is expected to leave the Nerazzurri possibly for Tottenham in January.
