Let me ask anyone who has seen Astori a lot a question here, how good is this guy really? I mean, any idiot knows that he is no Nesta, but is he even at the level of Bonera? With the way things are going, it seems like we are putting a lot of faith in him to be that first CB off bench, but I for one am not sure if he is good enough or even has the potential to be that player.

I don't I havn't seen much of Cagliari , but there is a split opinion on him some people think he could be good but in reality don't we need someone who is good and could be great. I also hear he will be ready to be a starter in 2 or 3 years but he'll be 26 then shouldn't we sign someone now who could play 30 - 40 games instead of a 23 year old who won't be ready to be trusted consistently for 3 years.

Now again I don't know much but it seems like we only talk about him because we own 50% of him and he is an okay player the doesn't make a ton of mistakes and he can run.

There has been no talk of Santocroce and even though he hasn't played for awhile I don't think we will get him for 8 million. Probably more like 12 million Napoli don't need to sell so won't sell him for 7 or 8.

Will Cagliari pay 5M to fully possess Astori?

5M + 1.5M (half of him 2 years ago) + more money = Better CB

Cagliari has Marchetti at goal and conceded total 41, second only to the end of table - Siena (51). I can't have faith in their CBs.

Astori commited many fouls and gave away some penalties, so I think he should be 4, 5th for CB. We need better defender to be 3rd CB after Nesta & Silva.

6M (-1.5 = 4.5M) for him is the last price, I think.

In 50:50 ownership, if both teams want the player first they can try to buy the other half of the right from each other. If they can't reach an agreement then each will submit his bid in an enclosed envelope and the higher bidder will have the player

Exactly why it is a useless exercise Even if you consider the 2 points slifersd posted above it is still useless.

Because money wise, it has the very likely potential to cost us even more. As far as as developing a player a simple loan will do. 1000s of loan occur in the Serie A and other leagues without any need for the 'incentive' because the team receiving the loaned player gets a good, sometimes excellent, player without paying a huge transfer fee.

From what I've heard he's not good enough for starting 11 of Cagliari...

I don't think we will pay more. We get some money before the player went to other club. It's just like selling players in normal situation but with future effect. If the player grow up to a good players, both clubs will benefit from him. The player's values increases. So, it's up to the club if they want the money or the player. Just like Boriello case. We chose to get the player instead of the money. If you say that Milan will pay more, Milan should just take the money instead of the player.

I don't see any REAL disadvantage for Milan.

Edit: If we focus on the increased price of the player, then we will see that Milan will lose money. But we must also look at the investment both clubs give. It's like a sharing 'business' for both clubs. Both share the dis- and advantage of their 'business'. If player get injured or doesn't develop at all, both clubs share the effect. This system is a fair agreement IMO.

The problem is generally when both clubs want the player ...
And a "blind bid" can be postponed to the following year once.

Here, it's really smart from Cagliari to say they are going to pay 5M to get the player ... as that means that if we really want him, we need to pay more (and without knowing what real bid will do Cagliari, we could have to secure ourselves by paying 7-8M for example, I repeat, it's just an example).

For Astori, I would agree with some others here: let them pay 5M to get him, or even for free, if we can then negotiate a player from their team (Marchetti ? I don't know who else but this team is interesting, so ...) as a part of the easy deal ...

Cagliari conceded a lot, and scored a lot. They do have interesting attackers:

- Matri (Italian, 1984, SC): 12 goals & 5 assists / 28 matches (21 starts). 158 minutes/ goal. He played all Serie A matches. He is a product of Milanello, we sell him to Cagliari half by half First half for Suazo deal (broken, the player went to Inter), second half for 2.3M. In addition, he scored against us this season.

- Nene (Brazil, 1983, SC): Top scorer of Portugese League, 7 goals & 1 assist / 26 matches (12 starts). 154 minutes / goal. We wanted him in Winter, but ended up with Mancini. Cagliari got him for 4.5M

- Andrea Cossu (Italian, 1980, AMC/Winger): Recently called by Lippi. 2 goals & 10 assists / 26 matches (25 starts). His natural position is winger, but he was/is most successful behind both forwards (like Kaka). Cagliari got him for 500K in 2007, a late recognized talent.

- Marchetti (Italian, 1983, GK, 1m90): bought for 5M in 2008, second best itallian GK.

Marchetti is maybe in dream of many Rossoneri. In comparison to Abbiatti, he deals better with high ball (Abbiatti looked clumsy sometimes). However, we must spend big to get him. Not very great upgrade, IMO.

The player I want the most is Cossu. He could be an useful squad player, both at center and the wings. And he will not cost much for his age (30) and his small stature (1m70).

Matri is a regret of Galliani. I always like the idea of having player of our Primavera, but Borri and Paloschi (maybe) are enough.

No comment about Nene.
