I don't think like Mzk about Inter winning the CL (I mean, I don't want them and won't support them to win the competition, I just want them to do better than Bayern ... and then being humiliated), but with all these comments about the end of Italian football, the poor Serie A, etc, I just wondered what people and medias would say if Juventus and Inter, the last two qualified teams, both win the European competition they play ?

Today, Pato, Mancini, Antonini and Abate trained with the team. It's good news, as the issue for FBs will be solved, and the potential issue about how to play without both Beckham and Pato (again Huntelaar on the right ? No way) is already solved before being a real issue.

Gabriel, you can't judge Seedorf on the last 2-3 seasons (not including the current one) because he has had such a great career and has been such a player !! Saying that the guy is lazy and is at best a complementary player is maybe true nowadays, but you reply that to the people who write about his career ... which could mean you say that about the player for his whole career ?

About Napoli, Xudong, they are for sure a lot better at home, but they are still a good team even away (maybe not really nowadays as they are in a bad serie of results). And what would be better for them than getting a good result to stop this serie in San Siro ? Anyway, if Pato is there, he'll score 1 goal, and if Inzaghi can play too, he'll score 2 goals (he promised to Miccoli to score against Napoli and Miccoli promised to Inzaghi to score against Inter), so it's up to our defence to allow us to win !!

Tiago is one yellow card away from suspension..that is bad news!! One of these games we will play without him.

So at best, he will get his yellow card against Napoli ... against Parma, he can miss the game (the solution will be to take the ball and keep it), it would be more problematic if he doesn't get this yellow card against Napoli and gets one against Parma !!

EDIT: Oups, sorry, thought we were going to play Palermo after Parma (but it'll be Lazio), I misread, so actually, if he can play against Napoli without having this yellow card, it will be good !!

Yes I was thinking the same...Lazio are in heavy problems offensively so best scenario is to get a yellow during the parma game..even better, Bonera will be ready by then...cuz Favalli Kaldze partnership just gives me the creeps.

Kastriot why? I think I wont be able to sleep tonight having read the phrase "Favalli Kaldze partnership"... Anyway, the Thiago-YC news is very bad.

Napoli are def a worse team away than at home, but they are still capable of putting us in severe difficulty even away. About their poor form... they have actually been quite good in the build-up play, but their problem is really finalizing their play. And fixing a "finalization problem" is easier than fixing a "creation problem". Let us beware.

Borri is out for fever, so I am guessing either Pippo or Hunter, depending on Pato's presence. Really good news that the injured lot started training with the team... maybe a few of them can make it in the starting line-up.

A sidenote... Juve is getting heavily mutilated by Fulham, 4-1.

Cannavaro was red carded in first 30 minutes, Juve was in lead until that.

For Napoli, Gazzetta says that we are back to 4-2-1-3 and Seedorf, Pippo and Pato will start. Also Abate and Zambrotta on the flanks and Antonini on the bench. Flamini not even on the bench! I can't understand...

It really seems that Leo doesn't like Flamini, probably because the team is more balanced in aerial battles with a player like Ambrosini. That would be a shame, because Flamini is among those 5-6 players worth starting 11 in a "new" Milan.

Is that for sure already that we will lose the 4th CL spot for 2011-2012, even if Inter would go all the way to the final (and lose tragically of course)? Does anybody know?

I think unless all German teams crashes out in the next round of European Competition, and Inter manages to make it to the finals. Serie A already lost a place in CL in two years.

Geo, I actually had been following Seedorf, or at the very least watched him play since he first came out from Ajax. I did remember that Ajax were a very hungry team with one of the most creative style at that time. But to me the midfield engine or their best midfielder at that time was Edgar Davids. HIs running, passing, tackling and overall gameplay was just simply amazing. For those who have not seen Davids play in his prime, he was a combination of Pirlo and Gattuso. Seedorf was not even close to be the focal point of Ajax, he was like Carlo in the late 80s to early 90s in Milan.
His Real days were pretty good, but he was only good for about a season and a half. Same goes for his Inter days. Then comes Milan and everybody knows how he played here. One good game followed by 15 bad games.

I suppose it is also your speculation? What I read was that it is already a done deal (after calculation) that our 4th CL spot is gone for 2011-12, and how well Inter and the German teams will do for the rest of this season will determine how soon (and how easy/difficult) Italy will get the 4th spot back for 2012-2013.

Since I don't know how exactly it is being calculated, I will need to rely on people with that expertise to confirm.

I still disagree but I respect your opinions on Seedorf. Speaking of Davids, I liked him a lot too. Out of the four free Dutch players we got in two summers, I liked him and Kluivert and couldn't understand why we would buy Reiziger and Borgarde. Totally useless players, and I didn't like them even when they just arrived. Well, they were free. It is such a shame that he couldn't perform at all at Milan considering how fantastically he played at Juventus and Barcelona. The only fond memory was probably when he scored against Porto (a beautiful goal with great courage), but it was later rendered useless when we crashed out of CL at home after the heart-breaking 1-2 loss to Rosenborg.

The final ranking of a season are summed effective only in the season after the next. So, the ranking of this season 2009/10 will be summed up with the previous 4 and make the overall ranking/coefficient valid for the 2011/12 season. So for next years (2010/11) we Italians will be safe, but depending on the events which occur this season, we will lose the spot in 2 years.

Wins/draws/losses give 3/1/0 points respectively and these points are divided by the amount of teams from that nation. (both Europa and CL are counted). And then some decimal points are adjusted, to get a nicer number.

Then there are bonus points:
- reaching the group phase in CL = 4 pts
- reaching the second round in CL = 5 pts
- reaching the quarter, semi and final (CL + europa) = 1 bonus point

As the season stands right now (19 Mar 2009 and overall coefficient):
- England: 15.5 / 79.4
- Spain: 15.6 / 77.5
- Italy: 14 / 62.9
- Germany: 15.75 / 61.8
- France: 14.1 / 52.9
- Russia: 6.1 / 43.8

Right now, we keep our spot, but as you can see it is a very very slender lead. But they have two teams left in the Europa League (Wolfsburg + Hamburg) and Bayern in CL, whilst we just have Inter. So things might very well change.

Hope that cleared things out.

For future reference, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_coefficient)

(Also thanks to MVBasten for clearing it out to me some weeks back)

Off topic: the next games to be played in 1/4 finals of CL are Arsenal-Barcelona (1), Inter-CSKA (2), Bayern-Manchester (3), Lyon-Bordeaux (4). In semi-finals, it will be the winners of 1-2 and 3-4 ...

Lucky Inter, they have the best chance to go to the semi, it is good for Italy, and I want to see how Honda & Krasic would play against Inter. Bayern - MU is an interesting encounter, I enjoy watching they kill each other

True, good to see two of my least fave teams play each other earlier than a final.
