The thing is this bringing up youth is a very delicate business. Atalanta has traditionally been considered one of the best youth system in Italy. But who are their last alumni worth noting nowadays? To me it's Pazzini and Montolivo, and even that happened 3-4 years ago.

And before that, I remember they became a sensation in seri A with several promising youngsters led by an already experienced player Doni. Those youngsters are Damiano and Cristiano Zenoni, Massimo Donati. And what happened after they moved to bigger clubs like Milan and Juve? They failed to live up the hype!

The question are:
1. When and for how long were Atalanta youth team so good (not only player quality but also in respective youth championship)?
2. Producing a great player is not not an easy task. So many talents were only playing for small clubs when they were experienced enough (when they are 25-30 years old). The key is patient and continuously improving or maintain the quality of the youths.

I think Barca, Real, Inter, MU and Juventus (there are probably other teams too) are teams that really care about their youths. The next problem is that even great talents find hard to compete with the senior players in first team of Barca, Real, Inter or Juve. Only super talent (wonder kid) like Messi, Balotelli, Pato ect. could compete with experienced and quality players.

There are only two ways of getting young players who ready to play for first team :
1. Make good youths (some money and concern to the youth needed) and hope 1-2 from them could turn to be wonder kid or at least good players when they are experienced enough.
2. Or buying wonder kid or super talent like Milan did to Pato (yeah huge sum of money needed).

I don't see any difference in your question #2 and the points that followed it with mine. But about question #1, a good youth policy doesn't necessarily relate to the number of trophies won. That's why I said "traditionally been considered", it's a TRADITION. That's why Codino from Palermo said/joked in the previous page the reason why we didn't care that much about youth team was because we can steal from Atalanta.

That's what a tradition or belief is all about. It's derived from a long accumulative things in the past. The recent results may not agree with it, but I believe that if you ask Italian people about the best place for a talented kid to grow, they're likely to name Atalanta.

The same thing can be said in England and Spain where West Ham and Atletico Madrid are believed by many people in those countries to have the best system/phylosophy/whatever of nurturing young talents.

Yup tradition. Tradition were facts not always are. That's the problem.

So, like it said, you can buy prospects from other team but you need to provide huge money. Comandini, Zenoni were expensive if I remember correctly.

So, the real problem is money if we want to talk about getting young players who are ready to play for the first team. We can buy decent, good, great or even super talent (wonder kid) if we only have money. All of such kind of talents have their own possibility to be good-great players.

Tastotti words about the team and the game against Palermo:

“They play good football and it would be great to bring a few of them up to the senior squad.

“These players are technically gifted and very interesting, while they’re also able to sustain a high tempo.”

Well, a good sign for the young lads!

Very comfortable win. We were solid at the back and creating many chances upfront. A really deserved win for Milan (Palermo's coach also admitted it).

If someone needs the video's link of the Coppa Italia game, I can forward the link from other forum.

Btw I just jumped to search Milan or former Milan young players who plays in Serie B. I already know that Darmian plays for Padova and it seems that he is starter that but what surprised me is to see name : Matteo Ardemagni!

He was our Primavera striker a couple of years ago and if I remember correctly he featured in Trofeo Luigi Berlusconi and got hyped pretty much by fans in MM for the game. He played in Serie C1 for two seasons after graduating from Primavera and managed to play in Serie B for Trestiana last season but only scored 1 goal from 25 appearances.

This season he plays for Cittadella and has scored 17 goals. This really surprised me since I thought, he is just over-hyped young player in his spell with Milan. I don't know if he is still owned but Milan but this is actually good news.

Profile:

Name: Matteo Ardemagni
Birthday: March 26, 1987
Height, Weight: 185 cm, 84 kg
