MILAN - Nelson Dida is no longer a Milan footballer. The Brazilian goalkeeper wanted to say goodbye to everyone through the official site of the Rossoneri club with these words:

"Today is the first day I'm living as a former Rossonero after ten years. I wanted to wait for the contract's expiration to say goodbye to all the Milan fans who in these years were close to me and with whom I have shared joys and bitterness, despite winning everything."

"A big thank you to president Silvio Berlusconi, to vice-president and delegate administrator Adriano Galliani and Sporting Director Ariedo Braida: without them I could never have had such a gratifying experience both from a sporting and human point of view."

"There are many people I'd like to thank: all the team mates I've had, Milan's managers and co-workers, the Milanello staff. Just thought I'd post this here. I for one will remember Dida as a great Milanista, thanks for the good times!!

Good times and some not so good times

I would say thanks for most of our players, even for their bad performances (like Kaladze for example), but Dida does not deserve any sympathy for holding Milan hostage to his 4m contract.

Bye-bye Dida and thanks for the 2003 CL.

I think you are being a bit harsh on him. I wouldn't go as far as calling him "holding Milan hostage to his 4m contract." after all, it was Galliani who was stupid enough to give it to him in the first place, then it was only human nature to enjoy high pay. I wasn't extremely happy with him either, but if you could thank Kaladze (who could only be worse than Dida considering his uselessness), then Dida deserves more sympathy.

I would still thank him for all his years and wish him good luck.

Blaming Dida for performances is one thing but for the amount of cash he is getting is wrong in my opinion. B&G gave away these amounts pretty recently, it's not like Dida signed one high paying contract 10 years ago. Some of these big extensions are only 2 years old.

A nice letter from Dida. Despite his famous blunders, I prefer to remember the Dida of CL final 2003.

we just gave Inzaghi one this summer. Nobody seems to know how much he is earning. Some (from another Milan forum) claims that it is still 3.5M. If that was true, it would be sad.

He got that renewal when he was still at good-best of his performance. But since the renewal he was getting worse.

Holding the team hostage? Pathetic. Pippo, Gattuso and Kaladze belong in that category instead, considering how little each of them has done in the past two seasons. Meanwhile, Dida did pretty darn good in that span after Abbiati got hurt (yeah, yeah, excluding the Madrid blunder). How many times did he fight his way back into the #1 spot in that span?

I wouldn't have expected anything resembling class from mzk57. No doubt he's still sore over the fact that that Dida saw out all three years of the extension while the great and beautiful Kalac stunk his way out of Milan and into Greece in about 12 months.

Thank you Dida. You gave us something truly special, both the good and bad meaning.

Thanks Dida. I always believe that his 'blunder' has been magnified (and honestly, how many of those have REALLY cost us like the way Green does to England lol)?

True, Dida blunders usually got magnified more than most other goalkeepers. Look at Casilles for instance, can hardly watch a game without him messing up somehow, and yet he never gets any slag for it.
