He can play at both flanks with same quality.

He has second nationality as Italian.

We have another option besides Caceres & Otamendi, even better because both these players are non-EU.

And you forgot to mention that the guy was able to come back on the pitch few minutes after being KO !!

It is hard to find the stats about him. As I know, he is a starter at FC Porto, enjoy enough CL experience. He is a Fullback, not wingback means defensive good but only 1 goal & 3 assists in 4 seasons (Antonini was good last season but he has only 1 goals and 1 or 2 assists, so that was an assumption).

No one here is talking about the drop in Non-EU spots from 2 to 1. This is a BIG deal by the way. This spoils everything for Serie A. The very least thing the pathetic Italian FA could have done is say that NEXT year we will start with 1 Non-EU, they can't say starting IMMEDIATELY, when we are in the middle of the transfer window.

Instead of taking the blame for hiring and incompetent and arrogant Lippi, they are blaming it on the Serie A clubs for having little Italians. Lippi's Italy has not only lost the World Cup but it will take Serie A down with it. Berlusconi has to interfere some how and take care of that stupid ABETE incharge. Even the corrupt Franco Carraro was much better.

Abete said it wasn't true ... the reform is about the number of abroad players in teams, no matter they are EU or non EU. That means the extra-communautary spots won't be modified, it's just that they probably want to have a more Italian Serie A, which is, in some ways, not stupid for the NT (they already did that after a failure in a WC or Euro if I'm not wrong).

IMO, I don't see that like a solution for the NT, but if FIGC want to push the best Italian teams to use Italian players, it's their right (they probably want to avoid a new season with an "Italian team" winning CL and the NT pathetically losing then).

Could be funny to see how Inter would react with such a rule.

Fiorentina & Palermo's presidents have speaked the disagreement. I think the Lega Calcio will, too.

Europe is a community now, so Italy (maybe, I do not understand the rule) alone can not force the clubs to start or have the minimum amount of Italian, but this is the only helpful way, IMO. Limitting the Non-EU spot only help the UEFA in general

My god, its like, they don't want to be better than the Bundesliga. It's like Italy wants to put their own d**cks up their a$$es. Stupidity in that Abete is on another level.

I hope some one interferes and fixes things. The reasons EPL and La Liga are way ahead of us are BECAUSE of the foreign players. Yes their national teams aren't doing so well but when have they ever done well? (Spain is doing well in the past 2 years actually). Having a better league, more competitive one will serve for the national team players...Italy are doing the opposite, they are trying to make it easier for the Italians to play by taking away all the competition!!


This rule will have the same effect as the Calciopoli if it will be officially implemented.
