It's already official that Thiago has gone to Brazil to see a doctor. Some unofficial reports say 6 months...ouch

If you thought we were getting David Luiz before, I think it's a Certainty now... we will need a replacement for T. Silva immediately....

What a disaster...Allegri shame on you...

Did I NOT say to play ALL 2nd team players in this stupid AJAX Game.. We lost the game anyways, and now 2 starters, and Silva for possibly 6 months...

What was the need for that?

Some responses over these injuries are simply STUPID !

#1 Milan owes it to its fans in attendance to field a team of players who are capable of winning. Fielding a team of all squad players is irresponsible and basically telling the fans,DONT COME we're gonna try n win but most likely we're going to lose.

#2 When the body is ready to breakdown, it will breakdown. Saying, we should have rested players so they dont get hurt...ludicrous.

Grow up whiners.

Every player needs rest and you take opportunities to give rest. Some players are playing over 5 games a months (year round not over the season!)
20 league teams, cups, CL, World Cup, friendlies...if there is any responsibility it's the overcrowded fixtures

A team consist of about 24-25 players. As someone has said, a team have to play many games and could play 50 games per season. It is not prohibited using different players for a game where it is meaningless for Milan. There is also no law forcing a team using the same 11 players from one match to other match. If there is such law, there is no word of rotation exists in football.

A win still can be achieved by resting our most important players like duo CBs. FYI one of our strongest position in last two years is CBs. We lost 0-4 to MU and started losing points since we lost Nesta last year.

Ah yeah, Milan don't owe to its fans to fielding same 11 players every game. Milan owes to the fans a good game, not a poor game by unmotivated players like yesterday game.

In football, coaches resting players to avoid cards so that the players won't miss certain important games, to give rest for the players so that the players will be fit for the next game or to avoid injuries so that the players would be able to play for the next games. All are preventive actions. You never know that when injuries or yellow/red cards come to the players but you can do something to avoid them or at least to reduce the chance of getting them.

It's easier to talk in hindsight with its 20/20 vision, we should've played this sub player instead of that first teamer and the likes, but this unexpected injury happens in football.

And I don't understand with this fuss about playing with "all 2nd team players". Can anybody tell me which team did play with all 2nd team players? To my knowledge, NONE. I agree with XVR11 on this, it would've shown disrespect to both the competition and the crowds if we had done it.

Munchen have already qualified as a group topper and they started with SEVEN starters (Contento, Lahm, Ribery, Bastian, Bommel, Muller, Gomez). Roma who needed a draw at minimum started with SIX starters (Mexes, Burdisso, De Rossi, Menez, Bori, Totti). MU who also needed at least one point to top their group started with SEVEN starters (Rafael, Vidic, Rio, Nani, Ji-sung, Rooney, Berbatov). Madrid, already cemented their place at the top, started with just THREE starters (Carvalho, Marcelo, and Ronaldo) but things might've been different if Xabi and Ramos hadn't been sent off on the previous match.

It's all about trying to balance the team, giving a chance to those who had had less opportunity before accompanied by several established starters. And somewhere between this combination, injury happens regardless which starters the coach decides to play or not to play!

Allow me to give another example. Ribery played full 90 mins last night and pushed himself so hard that in the final mins he was noticeably panting. Quite a risky decision by Van Gaal because Ribery has just come back from injury, and he has a long list of injury too. But he did come out alright. And now look at T Silva. He too finished the whole 90 min. He did really well throughout the game, even created a couple of chances himself. At the end of the day, how come T Silva got injured and not Ribery? Or how come Flamini's injury who's been taken out in the 1st half turned out to be less worse than T Silva's who managed to play the entire game? Sometimes there's a fine line between stay fit or get injured, and it cannot always be predicted.

You made bad examples there. The games for MU and Roma are meaningful for them, MU for group leader and Roma for a ticket to the next round. You only have one example (München) that match to your statement since Madrid used 3 players like you said (ONLY 3 players). Maurinho did tell them to get sent off in the previous game, so I can't imagine he will use the two if they were not sent off in the 5th game. The point is, Maurinho did preventive action to get his players able to play for the next games even with an ignorant action. I wonder why you didn't put Barcelona as example.

Aside from examples which can't be 100% used for Milan case, Milan don't have good backup for Thiago Silva especially for CL. Both Yepes and Sokratis are far below Silva's level. We are not a team that having good backups, not yet. We can't be compared with other teams who have players with pretty similar quality to play to substitute the first team player.

I don't agree with using all players from 2nd team but using players that we don't have good backup for is not a smart idea. Flamini case is still acceptable since we have players to sub him but not with Silva.

Allegri even used Ibrahimovic. For what? To satisfy the crowded fans? Or just to fulfill his selfish wish in CL?

The point is not about the injury since injury could come anytime but how Allegri view his team and the need of the team of certain players like Nesta, Silva and Ibrahimovic (for now). He is just not smart enough for now to evaluate the situation with Milan or he is just too carried out by his selfish wish to prove people that he can do something in CL (which is he can prove it in the next round!)

Why is it ridiculous that I said we should rest our starters??? Why is it a joke if we have our 2nd team players playing? They would have fought like dogs and probably gotten a better result then Ronaldinho and Seedorf walking around....

I'm sorry but I just can't agree here. There was nothing to gain by playing Thiago Silva, Robinho, Ibrahimovic. Luckily Nesta didn't play. This would have been a great opportunity for Verdi, Merkel, Strasser, Albertazzi, etc.

I'm not saying Silva couldn't have been hurt in another game, it's unfortunate, however there was no reason to play in this game.

A torn meniscus is a freak accident and can happen anytime, i don't believe it's from wear and tear.

Lastly, I agree I'd rather promote Verdi , sell Ronaldinho and Seedorf and buy a proper ACM who will run.... Then rotate Robinho, Ibra, and Pato.

Also, we may need a replacement for Silva, perhaps David Luiz. In previous posts I said I wasn't ocmpletely conviced of him yet, but when I look at Yepes and Sokratis, I'd prob rather get Luiz. I don't think Milan will make any moves though, I'd be surprised...I have a feeling we'll remain with this squad...

There´s nothing ridiculous, Elmago...

No one is free of a injure, but it was the perfect time to save some of our players without proper replacement. The game already has zero appeal... Plus, I have no doubt our fans would be eager to go to that game just to see some of our youngsters get playing time...

Siregar, I mentioned those clubs to explain that at every different scenario (already qualified or not, top the group or being second, or even not qualified) every club combined their 1st team players with the 2nd. In short, it was intended to counter the idea of fielding all 2nd team players. That said, just like Brasileiro wrote above, nobody said that your idea was ridiculous, Elmago.

While we all seem to agree that injury can happen anytime, one interesting fact that I find is that, apart from Munchen where lately Van Gaal has lost his faith in Demichelis-Van Buyten partnership, all those clubs I mentioned played with AT LEAST ONE of their 1st choice CBs.

So between Nesta or T Silva, it's understandable that Allegri chose to play the latter since he's younger and thus relatively fitter.

And I still don't understand why you label Allegri as being selfish. You mentioned about Barca. Well, they too had a meaningless final game, yet Pep did play Leo Messi at some point in the 2nd half just like what Allegri did with Ibra.

Lastly, let's hope that this Brazilian doctor Silva is seeing can help him recuperate soon. I remember Kaka said that he made more progress after spending several days with Brazil NT doctors than weeks at Milanello.

its completely understandable allegris decision to put on a team to impress, but i dont think the fans would have minded seeing our youngsters give it a go! i know i'd still love to see merkel and verdi on the field since we barely get that opportunity and both are quite promising, especially merkel. im expecting merkel to be in our 1st team one day.. plus maybe allegri wanted to end off our champs group campagne with style, didnt work out but i see where hes coming from. by no means we should critisize allegri the man knows what he's doing! apart from his hard on for bonera and late subs in most matches hes a good coach, capable of coaching our club.. give the man a chance. we cant keep getting new coaches, with new coach comes new training method and new tactics = big drop in team chemistry, look at inter thats probably a bigger reason then the fact they have so many injuries why they are doing so terrible..let's hope for the best!!

d.luiz, cassano, lamela and r80 out in january!???
ganso summer?
having lamela and ganso although both play in same positions along with cassano wouldnt matter because lamela still has alot of time before he can play week in week out, him and ganso can rotate - of course ganso getting the moreplaying time and cassano would be moved to more of a support striker role rather than cam, and seedorf will be retiring soon, r80 will be gone so it works out the same way just much better.. we really need to start looking into some more italian talents.. there jewels to have nowadays with the small population of upcoming etc. its hard to see the italian nt returning to its 06 form for another decade or so..

Physiotherapy in Brazil is incredible advanced, Nalx...

They are always decreasing the time players are supposed to be out. Hope T. Silva come back soon...

I Love All Milan fans, I don't mean to be rude, I rarely if ever argue on boards such as these, but I'm baffled by this post. Milan 'owes' it to their fans to field a good team... but was what you saw Wednesday a "good team"???? I don't want to but you would have gotten 1000% from Merkel, Verdi, Strasser, etc... did you get that from Ronaldinho and Seedorf???

As for the body breaking down, a torn meniscus is a freak accident not the body being fatigued.. where did you get that from?

I would have had Yepes and Sokratis start as I said a week before this game in one of the opening posts...
