This 35 year old LB played whole last season in a perfect shape and played superb matches in the CL and in serie a. Jankulovski never had a chance to play in front of him. Even at this age Sergio is still on of the fastest fullbacks in the world when he is fit. Unfortunately, he is not fit...
Janku took time to settle in his first year, and Serginho had a good year but it was very much the exception to the rule since he came to Milan and was certainly helped by Janku's injuries and form. As you point out, Serginho is still fast when fit, but he is injured, which is what happens to older players. At his age he is only going to get more injury prone and less likely to feature regularly for Milan. While Jankulowski is now much more settled, a regular and in his prime.

How can you compare Serginho's influence in Milan with Park's in United?? And the question is now....have you been watching Milan at all??
well to be honest i havent seen any of Serginho's 3 appearances this year

As for comparing him with Park, Park made more league appreances for Utd than Serginho did for Milan last year, and that was Serginho's best season in a Milan shirt! Park was out for 3 months at the start of this year, and is out injured (possibly for a year ) now, but in between the 2 injuries he played in almost every game, scoring 5 goals in 14 games. That is a very good rate for a midfielder and he had showed the invaluable knack of being in the right place at the right time. His style of play is far better suited to the more fluid, Ruud-less style of Utd this season and its a shame he didnt get to contribute more..

Yeah, Serginho was a starter for Milan.

But Stez is right Marko. You can't reallt count him as a missing on ManU-Milan because he wasn't injured for this match and if he was the best option for LB i think he would have played !

You can count Pippo ( although i wouldn't have done so because he's more of a bench player this year) , Gattuso and Maldini, but not Serginho.

You can't say Milan missed the Serginho of passed years. It's like saying Milan missed Costacurta !
Sergio was there, not injured and available, so he wasn't a missing. He was just a second choice LB option !

I think someone mentioned that Serginho was not fit for the ManU game - had gotten a problem in one of the training sessions before the game, I guess - and Carlo's mentioning that he is finally among the fit players for the game vs Torino supports that.

As for why he wasn't played, I am sure he wouldn't have started the game even if he hadn't picked up that injury ... the reason for that however is most probably in him missing most of the season due to that back injury of his and started training only a month and a half ago - hardly enough time to make up for not being able to train/play since June or July of last year.

With an on-form Dida (from the bayern match), we will leave the OT with a clean sheet. No point making so much assumptions here and there. Forget it. We won the UCL in 2003 with sheva injuried for most of the season, we reached the UCL final 2 years ago without sheva too. But we went out of the UCL when Sheva is fit and playing and is the top scorer in UCL, does it mean Sheva is useless to us? If football is a mathematical system then why do we even play it? Just look at the squad names at the start of the season and award the titles.

The thing is that ManU knew they would be absent and the whole gameplan/approach to the game ManU had planned was based on that and the players didn't have to adjust to losing important players in the middle of the game.

Also, Milan was always gonna have a more conservative approach at OT and thus the loss of a defender would not be felt as heavily as it would have if the game was at the SS ... and in a similar way, the loss of CR and/or Giggs and/or Rooney would have been worse for ManU for their home game since it's namely the attacking and midfield department that would be expected to play a more important role in a home game when the opposing team would not be over-committing it's players in attack but would mostly try to contain the opponent in midfield and defense.
honestly... the first goal, as brilliant as it was, was largely down to heinze's lack of pace, rio wouldn't have had as much trouble getting back, not saying Kaka wouldn't have scored but you get the drift.

No matter how long you have to prepare for it losing players of the calibre of Maldini, gatusso, Rio, Vidic is going to have a huge effect on a team, I would say the losses you suffered evened it up rather than putting you at a disadvantage.

btw what happened to bonera, I thought he was tipped for the top when at parma (?)

dude, that was like more than 3 years ago and he has been so average in the past few years that we got him for like 3M. And he has never really play alongside Nesta before. Nesta has been out for most of this season.

Enough spinning the facts - your logic if any present has glaring flaws.
2 years ago we reached final with Sheva missing ManU games and several others but he contributed a lot in trashing Inter and passing PSV, remember.
Last year ... your memory span seems to be short ... last year made it to the semifinals and Sheva scored a disallowed goal which could have propel us to the final.

Ukrainian,

If you disagree with him, then say so, and state your reasons. There is no reason to resort to personal attacks just because you disagree with somebody's interpretation of facts. That gives the rest of us a fairly good idea of your level of maturity (or the lack thereof).
