Does anyone know, can Gourcuff play in other positions in Milan's typical formation or is he strictly a backup to Kaka.

What I'm actually wondering is, could he replace Seedorf in his slot in the diamond formation?

i think milan should play this formation allowing gourcuff to play but sacrficing seedorf in the process

------------------------------- gk ----------------------------------------
--- Rb ---------------- Cb ------ Cb ------------------- Lb----------------

-------------------- Gattuso --- Pirlo ----------------------------------

------------ Gourcuff ----------------- Kaka -----------------------------

------------------ Gilardino --- Ibrahimovic ------------------------------

as long as gorcuff and kaka didnt go too deep staying more central it ll be better the wing backs will have space and kaka and gourcuff can create while pirlo and gattuso can stay in the center ... mainly doing the more defensive work

Possible, but...

-------------------- Gattuso --- Pirlo ----------------------------------

------------ Kaká----------------- Gourcuff -----------------------------

------------------ Gilardino --- Ibrahimovic --------------------------

The problem is that Pirlo isn't the best defensively. In that midfield 4.. only Gattuso will be a real physical prescence in the midfield. Hence why I doubt Gourcuff will get a starting position just yet in the midfield. I'd prefer something around these lines.

---------------------Gilardino------------------
---------------------------Ibrahimovic----------

-----------------------Kaka---------------------

------------Diarra-------------Gattuso----------

----------------------Pirlo---------------------

Gattuso covers the right side when our RB runs up the wing while Diarra can do the same on the lefthand side. Diarra and Gattuso handle defensive work while Pirlo and Kaka pull the strings in midfield.

Was that the only match you saw last season...?

I'd welcome Diarra with open arms. More physical presence is indeed needed in Milan's midfield, and even though I'd love for Ambro to have a starting spot, he's just too injury prone
And noone else currently in the squad are good enough for the role. The midfield needs strengthening, that's for sure.

of course not. But that game showed that Gattuso can play very well when he is at his shape. if we want some strength, we got Poulsen and I think that's enough. I never want Diarra <both Diarra> to be Milan's player. Too expensive, with E30M we can buy Tevez for sure, or Ibrahim. So which would you choosse between Tevez and Diarra.

We bought Poulsen the same time we bought Tevez, Buffon, Diarra, and Torres.

ah, So sorry. I always thought that Poulsen had signed contract with Milan in March, but in fact he had signed with Sevilla.

Gatusso is the best DMF in the world IMO. His performances is unmatched by any other player. But Diarra is a very special DMF too. if you have watched the Lyon games then you would know the player we are talking about. he is not just physical but he is capable of bringing the ball forward and making good passes. Basically he is the player that Seedorf should be. And i am confident that Diarra can take over seedorf's role and be an intregal part of the team.

I don't see how buying Diarra would affect buying another striker like Tevez as they are very different player.

How can you possibly think that 1 player can do the entire midfield's defensive duties ? That's just ludicrous and stupid. Diarra brings more to our team than we would lose from dropping Seedorf. Seedorf's long shots are great, but how many go in ? He's never been a regular goal scorer and i'm sure Diarra would score just as many as Seedorf from set pieces.

I guess it's all academic now though as he looks nailed on for a move to Madrid, yet another of the world's best players will probably pass us by. To allow Gourcuff to settle he should only be played in Kaka's position or played alongside Kaka if we have one up front.

SupremeMilan, i think Gourcuff will have the #7 shirt.

I think he's going to wear it on Wednesday, whether that is his final number or not i don't know. But Franco is pretty certain it will be and he knows more about what's going on at the club than the majority of people here.

I guess you'll just have to wait a bit
