Milan avvisato.

this is what you dont seem to understand, you can find world class players at good prices, they dont have to cost 40m, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ARE MORE OF A RISK IN FLOPPING!!

Quote:
And by the way, how would we know that Torres or Tevez or any other "big signing" would flop at the club? If we arent willing to take the chance, then we will never know. And if Torres comes here and flops, then so be it. I'm not saying that I can afford to lose 20M, but please dont tell me that a club of our stature cannot afford such a loss once in a while. Really, 20M is not even a drop in the water for Berlusconi.
sure? ... then why have we been so cautios in the transfer market as of late? if we can afford to spend millions of millions of dollars then why did we ever go for players like stam, rivaldo, amoroso, tomasson, pancaro, ...etc when we could buy players like gerrard, ronaldinho, messi with the billions of dollars we have to spend according to what your saying ... 20m dollars is alot of money, with 20m we can buy diarra just like that, now thats a big signing!

Quote:
Secondly, no one here is saying that we have to go out and spend big all the time. There is a time to spend wisely and a time to take a few chances. If we were the reigning Serie A or European champs, then sure, we should sign Suazo, Oddo, and whomever else we can get who is proven and not overly expensive. But you got to look at the current situation. We have won virtually nothing for two years and just lost our star striker. If now is not the time to spend some money, then when?
when? ... i dont know if you have noticed but we are still one of the most feared teams in europe, we still have a very solid squad thats capable of winning everything we compete in, 2 years is not as bad as it sounds, there were times in this teams career where we went 20 years without winning anything, and even when berlusconi was president, we went on a 5 year run of total dissapointment, and what did we do then? we spent big, in our current state there is no need for that, we still have excellent players, we have kaka instead of gugliempetero or whatever his name was, nesta instead of a crappy ayala, dida instead of lehmann... we have an excellent starting 11, and one of the best benches in the world, we dont need the big names, we need the right ones, im not saying torres isnt a right buy, i feel hes probably not but for 40m im not ready to take that chance given that there are many players out there who have a smaller chance of flopping and would cost alot less, and for the record, if we do spend 40m on torres, when you start asking why cant we spend 15m on daniel alves, or 20m on diarra, and 5m on gallas (since they are needed aswell) ... you know whats the answer

Quote:
To date, Rui Costa has been our record signing. Would you consider him to be a flop? I dont, but I know that a lot of people do, and for good reason. If I were in a position to do it again, I would still sign him. You know why? Because there are times when the team and the fans need a little bit of excitement. There are times when the team will benefit from a little bit of media hype, or as Grenoli would say, to send some "shockwaves" in the world of football. I dont know about you, but I was ecstatic when we signed Rui Costa. I was ecstatic when we signed Nesta. I was even over the moon when we signed Rivaldo!! Imagine the excitement and buzz around the club if we signed Torres. Do you think Suazo will generate the same level of enthusiasm? There is a time and place for big signings and for Milan, I think the time is now. We could do some "buzz", we could do with some excitement, and we could certainly do with a big signing to help us all forget about Sheva and look forward to a promising season. If a club of our stature cannot AFFORD to do this, then I dont know why Berlusconi is in charge in the first place.
rui costa? ... flop?? ... no way sir! ... rui costa was marvelous in our CL campaign, he may have not played for us the same way he did with fiorentina, but he was excellent, and an excellent sub aswell (which is just as important as a starter), i went crazy when we got him, and ur right, the club does need that buzz every now and then, but you can get that buzz for a low price!!! ... it doesnt have to be torres, it can be zlatan, it can be adriano, it can be anyone, you just make it sound like torres has to be the one! .. and for the record, didnt you get that 'buzz' when we signed gilardino last season for 17M BP?? .. please be reasonable

Yey, found my password \o/

Anyway, voted for Torres, I'd really like him to come to Milan.
It's not as if every player coming from Spain has to flop at Milan now, is it?
Nor did any of them (Jose Mari, Javi Moreno, etc) possess the talent Torres has (IMO).

My 2 cents :p

i dont speak Italian, but its obvious it says Atletico wants to prolong Torres's contract for another year, following interest by mayn european clubs. I gave up on transfers untill we find out will we play serie a next year, or well play in B.

Berlusconi´s recent arrival (did anyone see Galliani giving him a Berlu jersey?) will coincide with the purchase of some new phenomenon, but not necessairly one involved in the World Cup, though an emerging star may well get snapped up in Berlu´s inevitable move to replace Sheva.

Recently, I have been reading a lot of literature on Calcio, and as a result, on our esteemed supremo as well, and if there is one thing I have learned, its that he is not cheap. In fact, he was the Abramovitch of his day...when he brought the Dutch trio to the club.

These are early days yet, (into the silly season) and our next set of purchases will ultimately be determined by the sanctions we face, (if any) as well as the punishment, (if any) faced by Juve.

So, while the debate can rage over who we will buy, do not doubt for a minute, that if Berlu has to spend big, then he will spend big.

He will be, IMO, more preoccupied in not looking like an "Abramovitch", nuevo riche, than anything else, and he may even make a totally unexpected purchase, to further distance himself from the Russian, and those of his "ilk", so as not to be seen splashing out huge sums of money at every star that moves.

Juve´s recovery from this scandal, even if they dont make it to Serie B, will be more slow and painful than ours, being privately owned, therefore, if in the worse case, we are relegated, then we can at least hang on to some of our stars...so please, before you criticise our transfer policy, or apparent lcurrent lack of one, kindly remember the other issues that are affecting the Serie A, and the actual fate of some clubs next season.

Simply PERFECT! If we were to stay on Serie A (and I'm sure that will happen), we must break big, we must be feared once more!

It's painly obvious that the right moment to get him was the window transfer on the beggining of the year...

it's even more painful to have to reiterate that in order to get Torres, Atletiko has to be willing to sell, as well. And they must be complete morons to do so before a WC event.

Atletico fear Torres exit
Wednesday Jun 21 2006 14:05

Atletico Madrid admit that they will face a major fight to try and keep Spain international striker Fernando Torres at the club beyond this summer.

The 22-year-old has netted three goals at the World Cup finals already, sparking talk of big-money approaches from the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and AC Milan.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo told the club's official website: "Torres is an outstanding player and, I have to say, a fantastic man.

"We want to keep Torres and, God willing, he will remain with us next season.

"For the past four years we have stopped Torres from moving and in the end, after so much persistence, perhaps the glass will break."

They would have sold Torres for the righ price BEFORE the WC, of course...

Ibra? Well, if we aparently doomed to get second rate material from now on, it's better to pick a younger one...

At the beginning of last season, Atletiko reportedly refused an offer of 35 mil euros from Chelski after the Londoners had just failed to get Gilardino. What does that tell of their intentions regarding keeping or selling Torres? And if they are so keen on keeping him, should they decide to sell for whatever reason, it simply makes no sense to do so before the WC as they would naturally hope to get as much money for him as possible - if you are gonna lose something precious to you, at least make it worth.
What were we supposed to do - offer them 60-80 mil before the WC so that we finally convince them?

I tend to consider Adriano as a grossly overrated player, 'cause he's too goddmaned slow and unskilled.
