Valid point, I agree. You did have 8 players from season 2002/03 in the starting line up in Athens this May.
But there is a problem here, and this problem is so common for every great generation and every creator of these great generations.
Did you see a successful and immediate transformation from golden generation to another, new, golden generation ? Apart from Sacchi’s to Capello’s Milan transformation, there isn’t a single example in the world where such great generation is immediately replaced with another.
The creator of the generation is aware that after the changes , chances are pretty big that 1,2,3 winningless years will follow until the new generation starts producing great, or similar results of the previous generation. The creator wants to postpone this and he’ll stick to the old generation until the time when they’ll completely fail. And emotional attachment to this successful generation is probably another reason why steps weren’t made to change some things.
I know it’s not logical and history has shown us that it’s not the way to handle things, but just look at all the great generations from the past and you’ll see that the players were kept together even though it was obvious that they are past it. They were replaced only after a huge failure.
Every single time ( except for Sacchi-Capello) the same thing happened. What’s happening to Milan right now has happened to every single great team and always the changes were made way too late.
I’ll only make one example with my team, when after the 3 CL finals and 2 Scudetto winning seasons, in 1998, eventhough it was obvious that Juve’s team can’t go on like this, Moggi didn’t change anything and Juve ended in Intertoto next year. Or in 2003/04 when Moggi thought that the generation that won the scudetto twice in a row and played in 2003 CL final was still good enough eventhough Iuliano, Montero and Ferrara were screaming “replace us, replace us”

So, it’s not only Milan guys… it happened everywhere, all the time
Can't agree more generally.

I think this golden generation is not over yet,if we do the right move.

1. the backbone of our starting lineups is barely over 30,and milanlab is known for it's capability to postpone players diminishing days.
2. kaka is stepping into his prime time,he is going to have many major years left, and he is the soul of a champion team can build on.I also have great hopes on pato and gorky.
3. carlo showed his character in years with milan, I can see Sir fergusson's quality on him.He definitely is not miles away from alltime greatest title in milan history.
4. club's policy is trustworthy on the whole.we don't spend big,and we achieve alot(if not great).the most important is the whole club is functioning pretty well.

What we do need is that it's time we get young core players melting into our current squad. That's the reason why I posted that we don't need R10;if we should have spend that 60million,I'd rather go for pepe and ribery last summer.

Nice. For a minute I had flashbacks of my freshman year in high school (the wheel hadn't been invented yet), the last time I'd read the book.

Same here. You mentioned that during the heyday of the Dutch trio, fresh new talent was regularly brought in even though we were strong to begin with. This formula has clearly proved successful, so what's stopping Gallani & Co. from doing that now? Is it really because Berlu's coffers aren't as big as we thought they were, as someone (can't remember who) said before? Then again, during the 05-06 season, Calcio Italia reported that Inter led all other Serie A clubs in terms of debt. They now have a strike force that's lighting up the league, while we have yet to score more than one goal in any league game since opening weekend.

Or is Galliani's compulsive hoarding of players he feels indebted to because they've brought us success in the past, to blame for us not getting an infusion of fresh blood? I mean, B&G can't afford to be this naive in terms of the transfer market. We're letting the best free agents get away, and then we hear about them shining with their new teams. I cringe every time I read about Berlu's last-minute rejection of a transfer that would've sent Luca Toni our way, while we signed Emerson instead and are pinning our offensive hopes on a teenager who can't play until next year, while not giving our current young gun (Gourcuff) any legitimate time to ripen and improve.

Or maybe it's just because with every trophy we win, the redder the management's rose-colored glasses become. When Berlusconi dies or retires, word has it that his daughter may be given some control over the club, which is not an exciting proposition.

Its now official that d!da is the worst nightmare AC Milan has ever seen Without any doubt he is the worst player of the world at the moment. Now bcoz of his cowardness, ACM has lost againts a team like Celtic

But the positive for us was the act of the Celtic fan at the end Celtic fans really did win my heart, they could have been even more useful to ACM than Inter Milan fans
Forza Celtic fan, you are the BEST
I hope next time it would be 1 step further

I want to vent my spleen against Dida. Forget the goals, forget his shaky handling, and forget his general imbecilic expression...wtf was he thinking going down like that? He covered himself in total shame. I know the Celtic fan was wrong, but Dida was clutching his face like he had been pummeled.

We have to tolerate this absolute calamity, this absolute monstrosity of a man in goal.

As for our play...meh. We defended poorly, and the game was choppy. We need a result, and we need Ronaldo. I have high hopes for this team yet, and I think we need a few reinforcements. I don't think it's the end of a golden generation or anything sensational like that.

Forza Milan!

Alright guys; that's more than enough on Dida. I understand absolutely your frustration on him, but please respect those who are reading your post and respect yourself.

Over-doing this is not humor anymore, it's an irony. And irony is a weapon aimed to hurt others psychologically. You are hurting not just Dida but also your fellow MM members who are reading your post. We do not need to endure your mockery and irony on Dida anymore.

It neither is humorous nor makes you stand out. Please respect yourself.

I'll put on my positive hat again: Please, help us in building a supportive community, one that is based on trust and integrity. - J

Just out of curiosity, were you ever a camp counselor?

I don't think Dida reads Milanmania. No offence Jeff, but I'll say what I want as long as I don't contravene house rules. Honestly, if I get censured for criticizing Dida, then Stalinist Russia has nothing on this forum.

Also, I didn't know irony could be banned. Are you going to ban metaphors next?

Hasan, your post will be remembered among others for bashing Dida with all his recent less-than-heroic performances.

Regarding the fan incident, we were neither on the spot nor are we close enough to judge the intensity of the damage done to Dida. If just by looking on TV and you can see the seriousness of the injury, then there is no need for patients to see doctors anymore. If the injury is less than serious, then everything will come to light in the media. However it has not been and thus we can suggest that Dida is not just merely 'touched' on the cheek.

Its frustrating to see the supporters here instead of being concern about our Keeper's well-being after being 'violated' by a stray Celtic fan, they in turn ACCUSE our keeper of feigning injury etc etc. Since when hav Milanistas become so obessed with results and would trade the well being our players for a win?? That is simply being disgraceful.

Milan always lose with grace and dignity and will not point fingers at anyone as it is a collective effort whether it is a win, lose or draw. Ancelotti has never pin-pointed anyone for mistakes as he knows it will severely de-moralise his players. So why are we supporters pin-pointing arrows at the players? It is getting demoralising (like what J has mentioned) if the forums keeps on being negative.

Alot of posters have already admitted that they will still support Milan after this incident but the true test will be whether the same old players-bashing, management-critical posters will still support Milan even if they get relegated because Milan do not need bandwagon-jumpers but sincere yet passionate supporters like some of our mods and minority posters. Always optimistic and positive.

I would rather Milan goes through the rough patch now than later stages of the season. A 2-1 loss at home to Celtic at group stage and sack the management? Wait till Milan is out of contention of all competition then start considring blaming the management.

Till then, Milan will surely recover from this and it is just an understatement.

Forza Milan!
Forza Dida!

Save the tiresome piety for someone else.

I have been supporting Milan since 1987. I already said Forza Milan in my post, but I can criticize Dida whenever I want to. Why? Let's face it that in the face of his increasingly stupid mistakes, venting is our only recourse.

By the way, if, in your myopia, you forgot to read the crucial part of my post then here you go:

And no, I don't think Dida is seriously injured unless the fan was a martial arts expert who gave Dida a crippling blow with the slightest of touches.

The truth is our keeper acted to perhaps emphasize the incident. I can't fault his self-calculation, but let's not lose perspective of what happened.
