I am quite nervous about this match, for several reasons:

1) We play Barca next
2) Its a game we cannot afford to lose (though they would only be one point ahead of us, but to have them beat us twice in one season would be traumatic to yours truly)
3) Potential injury/fatigue...which brings me back to reason #1.

My normal pre-derby quivers to the side, Milan are definately on form, and if we play our game, and defend well, then we should win this without too much ado, derby or not.

With any luck, Inter will have a major fight in the locker-room before the game, and come out lacking team spirit, and lose 6-0...

I think Carlo will play his strongest team, reverting to the X-Mas tree if we are leading..if we go behind, or striggle, forget that formation, as Berlu wont stand for it, but may aquiesce if we are winning handlily.

I feel that the X-mas tree is our best formation, especially vs Inter, as it would ensure that we control the middle, and eliminate the passing threat from Veron, and the surging runs from the Argentine Zanetti. Does anyone recall that he gave it a "test run" vs Chievo, after we had sealed the victory? Hmmmmmmmmm..food for thought.

Gila and Sheva will start I think, with Kaka in the middle. It will be intresting to see if Carlo opts to rest the Dutchman and Pirlo, but as I mentioned earlier, I doubt it.

I am looking forward to this game, and since Friday is a public holiday in Jamaica, I will be at leisure, sipping a rum and coke, while inhaling some of our fine incense, while we demolish this poor excuse for a team.

What is also interesting will be whether Adriano plays from the start or not....my guess is that he will start, and cause further upset within the Argentine half of the team...heh heh heh...

I think we should win this, though my more pragmatic side feels a draw to be the most likely outcome.

I think your third reason of worry has been taken care by billy and co. who mourned the attacks on inter players by their fans. I think inter will not come out like a raging bull this time. it will be much calm and composed team!

I cant imagine Veron coming out, and playing and staying calm and composed....but regardless, we have to be concerned about potential injury, and I wish we could really rest Sheva, Pirlo, Clarence, and Kaka....

No I'm not disagreeing with you. On the contrary, I'm creating dialogue with you and am seeking your take on the INTER game. You gave me two theoretical formations. i think that doctor Meersseman and his colleagues of the Milan Lab exactly know which players could be tired and which couldn't. I think some people underestimate the Milan Lab, but in my eyes it's a decisive factor inthe Milan success in recent years.
So if everyone is fit i would start with the strongest team available. And i wouldn't change a lot for the Barca-game as there are both important. Maybe players like Maldini and Cafu, who are back from injury, should be rested for the Barca-game, but then is the question have they played enough to start against Barca ? The Milan-staff knows the physical condition of the players so they will decide. But i should start with the strongest side possible. Although Andrea Pirlo maybe replaced by Massimo Ambrosini. Pirlo is not in his best shape recently and maybe it's better he only plays one game of the two.

This is a good point Bram. Thanks for mentioning the MILANLAB. I know about it and hopefully it is a decisive resource that we have at our disposal.
Hitmannq8 did have the theory of mixing the squad a bit so that we have a good team for both games individually. His idea looks good and hopefully it works. But I'm no expert when it comes to tactical lineup and stuff so I'm taking it on faith that everyone here and especially the trainers are correct. We'll see in a couple of weeks.

Bram, you make some very good points throughout the post. I agree with you on virtually everything. With the game moved to Friday, I am not that worried about our players getting tired or something for the Barca game. Most of my concerns have to do with possible injuries to players like Kaka and Sheva, who would get knocked around a lot more than anyone else on the pitch, given how Inter play the derbies. Players like Materazzi, Samuel, and Cordoba often seem very, very likely to injure on of our players, especially Kaka and Sheva. Thank god Veron won't make it for the game as he is another hot-headed SoB.
I also think that if someone needs to be rested, that is Pirlo and we have a nice replacement for him in the face of Vogel and maybe even Ambro. As for Maldini and Cafu, I would play them now as, if they don't play vs Inter, they will hardly get the match fitness they need to play vs a team like Barca.

CArlo said Sheva and Pippo are not reday enough to play against Inter, Serginho also. Marek could start so could maldini. So it could look like this..... dida-cafu-nesta-maldini-jankulovski-pirlo-gattuso-seedorf-kaka-rui-gilardino. Not bad at all, I just wish we can rest Seedorf a bit.
