Ronaldinho has won the World Soccer Magazine's world player of the year, not to be mistaken for France Football's Ballon d'Or or Fifa's world player of the year. It's the same award Paolo Maldini won in 94 and it's the readers of the magazine who've decided. Ronaldinho got 28,6 percent of the votes and Sheva 22,2.

World Soccer Magazine's winner is a good indication of how the FIFA award will pan out. Since 1996 I think, who ever has been selected on World Soccer Magazine's poll has gone on to win the real thing.

I think World Soccer Magzine award is not entirely based on the achievements, but is an opinion poll of the fans. It just means that Ronaldinho has more fans than sheva or henry.

The award is not the same as Fifa World Player title which will be officially announced on Dec 20. A lot of sites have announced Sheva as the unofficial winner.

Just today Sheva has been voted as best player of the year by Croatian sprorts journal..the award is handed to him today in Milanello..

Nope. It is voted by the fans. I should know since I voted

'World Soccer' usually gets it right(or very close) because most subscribers are fairly intelligient. Last year Nedved won the award by a landslide even though FIFA gave it to Zidane. It's hard to argue against Ronaldinho this year since he has been brillient so I won't criticise their choice. I don't think it matters to Sheva that he didn't win this award since the only award I've heard him say he cherishes is the Balon d'Or. And he will win in it in the next couple of days

Who cares about FIFA's World Player of the Year?

Balon d'Or is the award to win, and Sheva deserves it. Congratulations, Sheva!
