Potential Signing Summer '09 : Aly Cissokho

I agree he is overpriced. 15 mil euros only for a fullback with only half of season in Porto? But again my optimism is with that this could be Leonardo's idea. We bought Kaka and intended to loan him out in his first year, suddenly he took Rui Costa's place. The same with Pato (but with much more money to spend). For me this is similar with management decision to let Leonardo to coach Milan. I am still confused.

What I see from him that Milan really could benefit from it is his phisical strength that helps him to go forward and especially to do his job in defensive role (he looks good enough with respect of the defensive and offensive abilities), something we really have missed for a couple of years. Since Jankulovski played regularly with Milan, the left side has been always our weakness regarding especially our defensive ability. The CBs very often had to cover Janku's task. Left fullback was also the spot that lacked of crosses last year (well a year before last year Janku's ablility to cross was 'covered' by Oddo's terrible crosses ).

We will change our tactic with bringing a tower and utilising our flanks and Cissokho SEEMS able to do the job to serve the strikers and to help the CBs.

A few points about the discussion in this thread. For starters, I don't think we'd get him for anything less than 15m as Porto are hard negotiators. Like Lyon, if you want their players then you have to pay for them. In this regard I'm inclined to believe Galliani that negotiations were hard.

We're taking a big gamble with this guy, but it's a gamble that seems to be worth taking. Put aside the Man Utd performances where he made his name, from what I've heard about him from anyone who's seen him on a more frequent basis, he's more than just a normal talent, and has huge potential. He's also incredibly keen to learn constantly, which bodes very well for his development.

His rise is interesting too. To have come from nowhere and be thrown straight into the Porto team is no easy feat. More importantly, there's been a strong correlation between him playing for Porto and their rise during the season. From what I gather, they were struggling before he joined and then after he joined in the 15 games he played, they won 13 and drew 2. Whilst I'm not going to attribute all this success to him, it cannot be denied that's quite a "coincidence".

This signing is a gamble, but it seems we made an educated guess before taking a gamble with him. These are the kind of gambles we should take when making purchases.

Forgot to add, Galliani may not be lying that we've been after this guy for a year. Cissokho has said that he became aware of interest from Milan which motivated him a lot in the league and CL.

I don't really have an issue with keeping Favalli for another season on the bench. The role he should be given is similar to what Costacurta had in his final years. Essentially a Coppa player, but an experienced head should we need it.

Yes, having a 39 year old on the bench is the wrong move, yet you cannot take away the fact that Favalli did a reasonable job last year after all the defensive injuries. He seems to be respected alot by Maldini, which isn't a light thing. Hopefully, though, we will get enough extra defenders to let the verteran go!

yes, Hurtado signed for a MLS club, so he is obviously not at the desired level of Milan or any European club as a matter of fact. Sad to see Mattioni leave so early though.

I don't understand either. If I remember correctly, his price is not that much and he was pretty good when he moved forward doing his offensive tasks. His weakness is his defensive skills (pretty bad IMO) but a Serginho's type player (offensive fullback) can be useful for us (to play in other position or as sub and comes when the team need to play more offensively) or he can be also trained to improve his defensive ability.

I also heard Mattioni was a big prospect in brazil, so he wouldve been good for the future and a good backup for zambrotta.

Dont worry Juve will pick him up, they wanted him bad in January, but he came to us right in fornt of their noses.
