Upcoming ECC
Well we have a few threads that dedicated to seria 04/05, and non about the upcoming ECC... so let this thread be the first.
Lets devide the teams in four groups based on their chances to win this "thing": A(the favorites): Real, Barca, Milan, Chelsea. It was widely discussed the whole summer about Real, Milan and Chelsea, and everyone forgot Barca. The only team out this four that has the best team-play and harmony is Milan ofcause, and that give us big advantage ofcause. I don't understand Real at all, especially their actions in the transfer market...so I won't be surprised if they collapse again in critic moment. Chelsea has excelent squad and coach and big potential for greatness, I realy hope Moriniho will succeed to "glue" his players into one good team- especially if he'll find a way to use both Rubben and Duff. Lets talk about Barca... they was the busiest team in the transfer market, and brought very good players: Giuly,Edmilson, Deco (Uefa's best Midfielder and MVP), Larsson (little bit old but still can provide the goods), Eto'o (fantastic, did u see what he did to Nesta???!!!)... add to that Ronaldiniho, Xavi, Puyol and the rest, and u have here a fantastic team. B(teams that could easily be in group A): Liverpool, Bayern, Juventus, Manchester, Arsenal, Inter, Valencia. Bayern brought a new coach and some players (and they have that prodigy Schweinsteiger) , so they can do great. Arsenal... I just can't imagine this team winning the ECC, but they can supply some good shows. Manchester, I realy believe that we facing the end of Man era. They should buy Rooney but I think they problems much deeper than that (their all squad kind'a "decayed" except few players). The team that realy can surprise us the most is Liverpool, no one noticed while they built a wonderful squad: Baros, Cisse, Kewell, Diuf, Gerrard, Xavi Alonso, Luis Garcia... they realy have a fantstic squad, maybe it's gonna be their's big "showtime". We talked enough about Inter and Juve... and Valencia, well I don't have a lot to say abou them, so.... C: Depor, Monaco, Roma, Bayer, Dynamo, Celtic, Ajax, Lyon, Shakhtar, Verder, Porto, PSG. Nice teams, nothing more... maybe few of them will surprise and add some fresh breath to the tournament (except Porto... I hate those guys). D: Olympiakos, Maccabi, Sparta, Fenerbahche, Pana, Psv, Rosenborg, Andrelecht, CSKA. Well this guys are here only to complete the 32 teams-amount, so don't expect from them much... So we might facing a fantastic season, maybe we will experience the best ECC comparing the last 4-5 years. Lots of teams are in good shape with great squads ready to race for the title and by doing that provide us the fans some great displays... haha Forza Milan!!!! |

No real need to be so sarcastic and take offence to Heidi's post Sash, she never really insulted your post.
Anyway, quite a good post Sash, although there are some areas I disagree. I think Arsenal should definately be amongst the favourites. The only factor stopping them from being considered amongst the great sides in history is the lack of European success and this year they are hungrier than ever to get that. In saying that, they have to beat this Milan, which has already been put down in history as one of the greatest sides ever after our European (CL 2003, Supercup 2003) and domestic (Scudetto, Italian cup and Italian Supercup). I think Monaco should be in group B as they look a very good side, even though they lost a couple of their most influencial players. I definately agree about Bayern, who are always considered amongst the big teams, even though in the last 2 years they have been poor and don't look much better this year. |

Personally, I wouldn't count out Rosenberg and you can be sure that Fenerbache, PSV and Anderlecht and possibly CSKA will steal points from the celebs and are not merely there to complete the 32 teams... I think Panatinaikos will be the only walkover. And honestly, this thread is not THAT original. So, no reason to be so sensitive about a merge.. (although it's fine with me if it stays..)Last edited by SonOfBerlusconi; 28-08-2004 at 13:39. |

They will need some time to oil up and get used to the new coach and I won't be surprised to see this humiliation inflicted on them by Bayer Lev serve as a wake up call to the Bavarian giant.
Bayern is Bayern and nothing has changed over the years - they have always been among the most consistent of the big teams in Europe and this has been the case for many decades now. They are a great force to be reckoned with, even when not at their best, and whoever underestimates them will have their own "What happened at Riazor (oops, I meant Olimpia Stadion)?" |

Thanks ACMILAN1983 and thanks Sash for the reaction... ![]() BTW Sash, Where can I start, that was very touching! Anyway my idea is to save MM's sanity becuz there're too many thread speaking the same issue... why dun just joining the thread that already available here ??? That's what I mean...not pissing off but I got a whirpool in my head to see many threads abt the same issue. I hope you dun take my words as an offence, Sash.... I just want to make admins and mods work's easier.... Anyway, back to the main topic, I love too see Milan and Barca in the same group... Interesting, as I can see....but annoying at English teams which got easier group... Darlings/pets of UEFA I guessed....

basically what i was saying is that there's no easy walkovers in CL - exept (IMHO) Panathinaikos who has looked pretty bad everytime i saw them. from what i have heard they simply don't prioritize europe highly and focus entirely on the greek league -- perhaps you can confirm this Lancelot?
sorry for not mentioning every club (Olympiakos) but i didn't think it was necesseay to make a point, especially since most people (not counting Sash ofocurse ) will remember how well Olympiakos have previously played in CL.but any team can lose if they underestimate their opponent. i think milan learned a lesson last year. first against brugge and then deportivo. i don't think they will make the same mistake this season. To tell the truth, even if i am Olympiakos fan(i already booked my yearly season ticket), Olympiakos doesnt have big history in Europe and Panathinaikos has(he even managed to go to a CL final, lets say 20 years or more, ago!)
Also, Panathinaikos managed the last years to make some good runs in Europe and my team, Olympiakos did only once, at 98 if i am not wrong, where he got eliminated with a last min goal from Juve before SemiFinals. BUT, on the other hand, Olympiakos won the championship in Greece the last 7 years(and lost it only last year). Also Olympiakos did for me good tranfers as i love Rivaldo and also i like Sourer(was an Argentinian that played in Real Sociedad) Anyway, sorry because i was making comments about the posts...next time i will read carefully ![]()
