Juve director wants to abolish video evidence

Moggi: Abolish video evidence
Friday 22 April, 2005

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has launched a tirade on the “biased” use of video evidence and demanded a change in the rules.

The Bianconeri chief was furious after Zlatan Ibrahimovic was handed a three-match ban for striking Ivan Cordoba in an off the ball incident during Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to Inter.

“It is right to combat violence and video evidence is necessary, but the images used should not be provided by television companies,” said Moggi in an official statement.

“As far as we are concerned, the footage should come from the Federation and be handed over only when the Disciplinary Commission requests it. We cannot put the fate of the Scudetto in the hands of individual television directors.”

Ibrahimovic was caught on camera lashing out at Cordoba during the closing stages of the match and were glimpsed in a corner of the wide shot of the pitch by pay-per-view television company Sky.

“Cordoba stood on his foot and Ibrahimovic pushed him away,” insisted Moggi. “It was not a violent action and nobody in the stadium even realised it had happened.”

Francesco Totti was given a five-match ban for his clash with Francesco Colonnese in Siena’s 2-0 win at Roma that same evening, while earlier this month Giallorossi player Leandro Cufre was suspended for two matches for a similar incident to that of Ibrahimovic.

“Other more serious incidents around the country weren’t even considered by the Disciplinary Commission. This is why video evidence is necessary as long as it is the same for everyone. The only way to guarantee that is to have the footage pass through the Federation first.”

There is more to this than meets the eye, as Moggi also gave another interview in which he suggested that Milan director Adriano Galliani – who is also President of the Lega Calcio, which runs the Disciplinary Commission – had a part to play.

“It really took an eagle-eyed director to spot that incident and I’d like to thank this man for the good work he has done for the community at large,” said a deeply sarcastic Moggi.

“I must say I’m not remotely surprised that Ibrahimovic is suspended for the Milan game on May 8. It really is a quite remarkable coincidence, isn’t it?”
This to me sums up all the problems with Italian football....some people (whether fans, club officals or players) seem to believe in the Animal Farm philosophy held by (you guessed it, the ***s) that "every one is equal, but some people are more equal than others"

The simple truth is that Milan players rarely, if ever, and certainly not in my recollection, are the aggressors on the pitch, or off it, and as such, are never seen commiting thuggish actions.

Moggi seems to me to be in a state of panic, and is clutching at straws, trying to justify the totally ridiculous actions of one of his players, and seeking to tie in Galliani in the whole ridicuous situation.

Were the tables reversed, and say Cordoba was to have lashed out at Zlatan, I am sure Juve and Moggi (that wierd cross between a snake and a human) would have nothing to say about the source of any video evidence used to convict the Inter player.

Sheesh Moggi...grow up why dont you? After buying all the refs, they still get caught in their arrogance...thinking that they will get away with everything...as we say in Jamaica: "Unfair game play twice"....no translation necessary I think....

Juve really make me sick...

Well that's not a nice thing to say about the Italian League referees. I think they try to do their best with the highest degree of integrity and honesty. Tell me with all the so called weight that Juve mysteriously pulls, How is it that Milan wins Scudetti also? To even imply that Juve allegedly bribes officials, did you once think of the ramifications that is put on Milan when we win? Maybe you should reevaluate your thinking before making such erronious statements like so.

FORZA MILAN!

Guys there is an obvious reason to why he is saying this. Listen when we ourselves start to make allegations of conspiracy commited by Juve we open the door for him to equally alledge conspiracy against his team. When looking at this from another perspective, do you not think it unusual that Galliani has a role in the suspension decision?? I know he is a man of integrity! Understand though, that there are those who think otherwise and can relatively cry the same foul some of us do without one shred of proof to any kind of conspiracy. That is why I'm sooooo adamant that we should refrain from calling Juve the "cheater" club or the "mafia" connection. It is absolutely stupid! It opens up the door for all other clubs to do the same thing to us when we start winning. It makes not only us but the whole Italian League in a shameful position. I'm one Milan fan not willing to go and take that path.

My point exactly! For such a thing to even exist, you gotta bring in everybody to be able to pull this off, MILAN included.

So how is it determined whether or not video is used ? Surely it can't just be at the whim of an official. It HAS to be all or nothing, they can't use it "sometimes". Maybe I am ignorant in my opinion, but is there REALLY a place for video in soccer ? Hockey fans will tell you that it has been a lifesaver to the game time after time. But it has been and always will be a constant in the game.
What conspiricy specifically are you all rerferring to ?

If Moggi really wants fair and neutral referees, he should stop paying for them

its quite funny how arogant moggi and cappelo are when juve is on top ( cappelo : "look at the table, we have the best team... ". as soon as something gets on their way juve make bublic attacks . and it makes ordinary people think juve have been hurt. Well....**** them!! Milan need to make even more pressure, becouse if moggi had a chance to destroy milan he would do it, 100%! Dont let his crying tricks you, he still owns most of italian refs and clubs... JUST DO IT MILAN!!!

i actually mentioned this in the milan juve pre match comments already but it makes an interesting thread on its own. it highlights the arrogance of moggi and juve. i cant believe he made such a ridicolous statement that video evidence should not be used.

also kui do you not think that juve have a bit too much refeering decisions in their favour this season with the likes of milan having 2 good goals disallowed in the last 2 games?

juve too use their influence with referees in my opinion. i dont think there is money changing hands but i believe there is pressure been put on the refs. also i think a lot of the refs probably grew up supporting juve. foreign refs would be something i would consider.
