Marco van Basten retirement anniversary thread
from acmilan.com
Surprised nobody created a thread for this: TEN YEARS AGO... Marco Van Basten made his final lap of honour around the San Siro, not in wearing a Milan kit but in his suede jacket and casual clothes. In reality, his retirement had been known for some time. The anke operation in Saint Moritz on December 21, 1992 came after picking up the Golden Ball in Paris, the final official league game was on May 16, 1993 at the San Siro against Roma and the final game came in Munich ten days later against Marseille. His greatest moments came on those unforgettable European Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons when the goals flew in. Then on Thursday, August 17, 1995, it was all over as he held a press conference at Via Turati. The following evening, before the Luigi Berlusconi Trophy, he bid farewell to the fans and passed the mantle over to George Weah. The lap of honour was the prelude to Milan lifting their 15th league title and the last present from Marco Van Basten. --------------------- The immortal Marco van Basten - I should consider myself blessed to have seen him play, and play wearing the Milan jersey. Thank you for the memories - they will forever be in my heart. Last edited by Nadir; 17-08-2005 at 19:45. |

my first ac milan shirt had his name on the back the of "mediolanum" shirt from the start of the 90`s.
what a legend... personal highlights was a goal against fiorentina in 1992/1993 when recieving the ball from the edge of the box he smashed it in and put it on the "postage stmap"..we won that game 7-3 in florence and another goal was the over head kick against IFK Gothenberg in the champions league in 1992 he scored four goals that day..genius |

But my first jersey had Baresi's name on the back. And was the Mediolanum one, in the 1988. |
