First of the Year

already planning for the first of the year and the few days around that event. So far the two most probable choices are (drumroll)

1)AMSTERDAM

2)SCOTLAND

Having already been in amsterdam many years ago, i'd prefer a new destination and always heard good things about the scottish first of the year's celebrations, but my mate prefers amsterdam cause he's never been there and doesn't know what to expect from scotland's new year.

How to convince him? I don't know much myself, but i'm sure it's a very nice place to be around Christmas, cause many people told me that. What to expect or to do? Where to go? I roughly plan to stay 4 days, and i'm into clubbing, bars, women, but also to have some sights and moments of relax chilling out and meeting people.

Any tips hugely welcome.

Anyway, Amsterdam should be great too, just that i prefer to visit places i've never been to if i can.

Both places are wrong, if you are lookin for women But if it is not the destinatuion of yer journey [I doubt that ] you should choose Scotland. First of all I bet that scottish weather suits to concept which I relate with New Year celebration - cold and mabe snow. Amsterdam is much warmer place. Personally I prefer "cold" new Year . Anyway...have a good holiday, mate.... cheers

my best target is to have fun, then if it happens with a girl that's cool, but i look for a wild FOTY so bars and people having good time will be great (even without girls).

Turin can be very cold for the italian standards so i'm a bit more prepared that many of my countrymen, plus i don't care as i will have on average 2 liters of vodka inside me

any tips is welcome

Amsterdam over Scotland any time!

But if you really are looking for what you stated, you need to go to either Ibiza or Puerto Banus in Marbella, Malaga, Spain Puerto banus is the best place ive been to and i was so happy there, the partying is JUST CRAZY and UNBELIEVABLE.. its easy too You will really enjoy it if you go.. You can also go to Barcelona which is a cheaper alternative to Marbella.

How about Rimini in italy? I hear alot about it from my italian friend. Or how aobut Montreal? Come and enjoy our -50 degrees celcius weather in New Yrs eve! You also have Dusseldorf

Here's my rankings for all those destinations:
1- Ibiza
2- Ibiza
3- Puerto Banus
4- Amsterdam
5- Dusseldorf
6- Rimini
7- Scotland
...
...
46- Montreal

ibiza and rimini are too busy and i like partying but not 3 days of discos..too much gets on my nerves!

I think i will come back to Amsterdam but still planning so nothing is certain. I must consider the flight/train costs also so i rule out everything outside europe (unfortunately, otherwise i would have already booked in Brazil ) but i think Amsterdam offers great clubs and bars but also good places to chill out )

I rule out spain cause probably that will be my destination for the summer, and this time i want to leave with my crazy Fiat Punto and blow it going around Spain and Portugal..

thanks you all anyway , i think i will go with Amsterdam but any tips are still welcome.

Ps. @Mia_ i will stop in Canada sooner or later but i won't tell you, you will just find me outside your home

Well Hawaii is great but it is so far away and can very $$$ for any traveller. We can pay up to 20% on all things beung serviced or sold. Otherwise if you have the $$$ and cost is never an issue. Hawaii one of the best. In time when they invent the star trek transporters ohhh a couple milleniums from now, I would say Amsterdam sounds D@mn good to me.

I am already on they way I am planning to travel trough europe by car this summer. Have not decided with whom and whether it will be a western or eatern trip. Will be great nontheless.

Giovanni, by my travel habits I would say you should try the new experience Seeing new places is always fun, but I bet the weather is not the best in either place at that time. then I even prefer our cold over the rain But if it is cold on the outside, expect warmth in the inside.

Scotland is horribley cold but the body heat generated by thousands of people is quite suprising.

I guess you'd go to Edinburgh as theirs is usually the bigger of the two, but seeing as I'm in glasgow I've only ever been there.

It is fantastic though, The bootleg beatles played last year and where brilliant. This year I dunno who it'll be in glasgow, Ebinbrugh have Texas, so it might be either Travis or Franz Ferdinand. It's a lot of fun, I can't reccommend it highly enough.

I will be in Istanbul for the New Year's Eve. It usually is pretty lively but the weather always sucks. It is cold and it usually friggin' rains almost every December.
