We can't have Diarra, but we can buy Tymoschuk

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._Tymoschuk.jpg

IMO, he is possibly the MOM in the Italy-Ukraine WC game, together with Zambrotta. I think he won more than 10 takles in the midfield, non of them failed. He was also the FIFA MOM in Ukraine-Tunisia game. He is the best player in Ukraine together with Sheva.

Anatoliy Tymoschuk | Midfielder

Full name Anatoliy Oleksandrovych Tymoshchuk
Date of birth March 30, 1979
Place of birth Lutsk, Ukraine
Height 181 cm
Nickname Timoha

A talented, absolutely fearless defensive midfielder said to be attracting interest from many top European clubs, including Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Juventus, Tymoshchuk is a man on the verge of something big. Milan made an enquiry for him last year, only for his club Shakhtar to rule out a sale of such a key player while they were still involved in the UEFA Cup.
Extremely athletic, an aggressive tackler and one to cover every blade of grass in the course of a match, he had a famous full-on battle with Denmark's enforcer Thomas Gravesen during a World Cup qualifier in Kiev last year. Tymoshchuk prevailed, Ukraine winning 1-0 and he also did his bit to support the attack, frequently bursting forward and showing a nice line of incisive passing.

Shakhtar's highly-influential captain, club coach, Mircea Lucescu, calls him the side's 'lungs'. This spring he has been in Italy receiving treatment on a troublesome Achilles problem.

The Best Ukrainian Player of the Year poll has been organized by the newly created newspaper "Ukrainsky Football" (Ukrainian Football), which is published by "Molod Ukrainy".

1997 Andri Shevchenko (Dynamo)
1998 Serhi Rebrov (Dynamo Kyiv)
1999 Andri Shevchenko (Dynamo Kyiv)
2000 Andri Shevchenko (Milan)
2001 Andri Shevchenko (Milan)
2002 Anatoli Tymoschuk (Shakhtar)

Anatoliy Tymoschuk is available for transfer
May 20, 2006

Shakhtar president Rinat Akhmetov, talking on Futbolny Uikend tv show, said the club are ready to release their captain Anatoliy Tymoschuk straight away after the World Cup finals. Akhmetov noted the Ukrainian champions have already strenthened themselves with Ukrainian players Kucher from Metalist and Tkachenko from Metalurh Donetsk, and he doesn't rule out the possibility for the club to land some more Ukrainians, therefore Tymoschuk's exit won't cause problems to Shakhtar because of a legionary quota.

The president wished Anatoliy Tymoschuk good luck playing for Ukraine Team in the FIFA World Cup Germany finals, emphasizing Shakhtar will be ready straight after the world forum to enter negotiations regarding the release of Anatoliy to a foreign club.

I think he worth a thread here, the fact that Milan enquire his availability speaks for itseft.

Nesta also specially mentioned him before the Italy-Ukaraine WC game.

Nesta: Other than Sheva, Ukraine also has Tymoschuk

Translate: Nesta:"Some say Ukraine is Sheva's one man team, but it's not, they have some excellent players, like Tymoschuk, I've met him a few times with AC Milan."

How good is Tymoschuk? I hear you ask. Well, this 27-year-old has bee courted by Juventus, Arsenal and Bayern Munich in recent years, and only last year, AC Milan made an approach that was turned down by Shakhtar Donetsk. Make no mistake, Tymoschuk is Ukraine 's most important player after Andriy Shevchenko, and his influence on the team is as good as any. He is a bit like Gusin, just better, in the sense that he is young and very athletic. He can cover every area of the pitch during the match, and he is regarded by his Shaktar coach as the side's “lungs”.

I wouldn't mind him at Milan at all. My personal favourite is Diarra but let's face it - if lyon release him at all we would be facing battle from ManU and Real an this would keep his price in the high 20s or low 30s mil euros. With Tymoschuk probably available for around 6-8 mil, I doubt diarra is 4 times better than him. Plus, with Ambro being constantly injured, Poulsen being skipped by Milan, and Vogel probably soon leaving us, a player like Tymoschuk would come in very handy over a tiresome season.

This is what our scouts get paid for. If they see potential in him and think he will fit in to Milan and serie a, then why not? If it works out, this will be an extremely smart transfer---he wont cost much and his value would certainly increase if he's successful with us. Further, if it doesnt work out, then what have we got to lose? Given his performances in the WC to date, he looks the goods.

Record deal for Shakhtar captain
28 Feb 2007
http://www.uefa.com/competitions/uef...id=511252.html
FC Shakhtar Donetsk captain Anatoliy Tymoschuk has joined Russian side FC Zenit St. Petersburg on a four-year contract for a record fee in excess of €15m.

The 27-year-old midfielder has become the most expensive signing in the history of the Russian Premier-Liga and also the most costly transfer involving two sides from the former Soviet Union. The 65-times capped Ukrainian international is also set to be Zenit's top earner, with a wage in excess of €2.5m a year.

I like this guy, too bad that we did not sign him
