Preferred Formation

I'm really surprised there wasn't a thread like this already.. but post the formation you'd most like to see AC Milan play only using CURRENT players. This isn't any fantasy starting 11 thread. Thanks I'll start it off.

---------------------Inzaghi------------------
---------------------------Gilardino-------------

------------Gourcuff--------------Kaka----------

--------------------Pirlo--Gattuso--------------

---Jankulovski-----------------------Brocchi-----

----------------Kaladze-----Nesta--------------

------------------------Dida------------------

Of course.. I would have preferred a different choice of strikers.. but options are limited at the moment

I've never actually seen Boriello play.. so I don't really know his style.

he was a great prospect when under21... 2002-2003 was supposed to be when his year, when he established a position in Serie A... Gilardino did it with Parma, Borriello got a few chances with Milan but never acomplished what was expected... he jumped from team to team on loan, and finally towards the end of last season he showed some good things with Treviso...

hopefully this can be his year, if he is not loaned out again...

hard to say... comparing him to either of those would be still too much... maybe none of them... physically, he's more like Torres, tall and strong... but more a number 9, like Pippo... if he could just be as agressive as Pippo is, he could improve a lot... he's got the skills to put the ball in, just sometimes he gets lost...you don't realize he's still playing...

hmm, vaguely I'd go with something like...

---------------------Gila-------------------

---------Kaka------------------------------

----------------------------Seedorf--------

-----------Ambro----Pirlo----Rino-----------

--Kala/Serginho--Maldini/Kala--Nesta--Cafu--

--------------------Dida--------------------

Kaka and Seedorf with freedom to roam and support Gila whilst Rino or Ambro protect Pirlo who is given freedom to move more.

This would probably change in given circumstances and based on how players are performing and tbh I do think we'll get the odd player (Buffon maybe?) who'd get in ahead of others.

Oh and in defensive situations either Seedorf or Kaka (more likely Seedorf, hence he's placed deeper) should drop back to make 2 lines of 4 in midfield and defence.

This team is a very strong side, but HAS to add some extra players. Gourcuff is simply too young, while Maldini , Cafu and Serginho are too old , aldough they always surprise all of us. With anouther forvard to rotate with pippo and gila, a player like Ze Roberto, and right back ( Oddo ), we have enough quality to win scudetto back. And then next year, Milan will shine with Silvio's help.

Seedorf is our #10, you guys really think he will not be starting? (well Rui Costa didnt start so you guys have a point :P)

I would favour this line up because i play it in winning eleven:

--------------------------- DIDA ----------------------------

------------ KALADZE(WEAK PT) - NESTA - MALDINI -----

--SEEDORF----GATTUSO-------PIRLO-----SERGINHO(janku)

----------------GOURCUFF----------KAKA-------------------

-----------------------GILARDINO---------------------------

But ofcourse knowing Ancelotti, he would never change formation and never play with a 3man defence so this is what we WILL see:

--------------------------- DIDA ----------------------------

---CAFU----- MALDINI ------- NESTA ----- JANKULOVSKI(serginho)

--------------------------- PIRLO ---------------------------

-----------GATTUSO--------------------SEEDORF----------

-----------------------KAKA (GOURCUFF)-------------------

----------------GILARDINO---------INZAGHI----------------

Gila + Inzaghi playing together is not a good idea at all, especially in big games. I honestly would rather gamble on Gourcuff rather than playing those 2 strikers. Hopefully we get a good striker so we dont have to worry about that.

I also am worried about Kaladze because I am certain he is not good enough. Its true that he plays his heart out but still he's not good enough for Milan i'm afraid. I think we will be getting some1 like Lugano,Barzagli,Gallas,Chivu. Also Costacurta can not be relied on. Cafu had a devastating WC, we need a RB even more than a striker. Daniel Alves?

Indeed, it was a shame that he didn't develop into a big star, hardly a regular in a middle level Serie A team like Empoli. He used to be as big a prospect as Gilardino, if not bigger.

I remember in Milan official website, he was described to be like both Inzaghi and Vieri, superb positioning and strong too. I have failed to see the confidence in him in the very few games he played for us. Guess he was in a vicious circle..

I would change the formation. Move Gattuso to central mid to provide cover for Pirlo, then put somebody like Foggia or Gourcuff in the right mid position and play with one striker. It should look something like this:

------------------Dida------------------

--Cafu-----Nesta-------Maldini------Sergio (Janku)

-------Gattuso---------Pirlo-----------------

Gourcuff(Foggia)--------Seedorf-------------

-------------Kaka---------------

----------Gila-------------
