Juliano Belletti for milan

Milan close in on Barca star

Reports in Italy suggest that Milan are close to the capture of Barcelona full-back Juliano Belletti.

The Serie A giants are known to be in the market for a right-back, but were thought to have trained their sights on Lazio's Massimo Oddo.

However, with the Roman outfit rebuffing a €6million (£4million) offer for Oddo, Milan are understood to have swapped targets.

Barca are well stocked at right-back with Gianluca Zambrotta and Oleguer, as well as Belletti, on their books.

All three have been given a chance this season although it is Belletti who played the most recent league match against Atletico Madrid.

However, the chance to cash in on a player who will turn 31 next year is understood to appeal to the Catalans with Milan reportedly ready to offer around €5million (£3.35million) for the Brazilian international.

That would represent a €1million profit for Barca who signed Belletti from Villarreal in the summer of 2004.

He has proved an astute signing by Frank Rijkaard and was the club's unlikely hero in last season's UEFA Champions League final against Arsenal when he scored a late winner.

I think it's becoming obvious that newspaper / websites just have to make up rumors because they have no idea what Milan is up to. Just how many times have the media been right, after all?

And Belletti says there was never any contact between Barcelona and Milan. Go figure.

Sport.es is near Barca just like Marca is for Real

"01:44 h 14/1/2007
Belletti jugará los próximos cuatro años en el Milan.
Belletti dejará el Barça a final de temporada.
El Barcelona le dará la carta de libertad,
ya que su contrato no acaba hasta el 2008."

Belletti will play in red&black for next 4 years.
Belletti will leave Barca at the end of the season.
Barca will let him free to choose a team even if his contract will end on june 2008.

.... and they are scared by Reijkard silences around his future....
maybe this "mystery" could be a good reason that explains our inactivity even on the last market in the summer

I would say no to Belletti. I like to have Zambrotta and/or Oddo, please.

not Belletti but getting Oddo in this transfer window would help us, hopefully, for 4th spot and CL games.
I guess getting Belletti is seen as move for the near future when cafu will be gone and Milan would still need 2 attacking RBs as it has probably finally became clear to everyone at Milan that playing one man in 60-70 games per season simply doesn't cut it.

but he is old, and we still have to pay some transfer fee for him, I remember. If we have Oddo, I would rather we buy some young Italian talent to sit on the bench. I don't think Belletti fits into that picture at all.
