Is Milan Risking NOT going to the Champions League Next Year?

I am so upset with Milan's performance against Roma. Gee, we were winning and suddenly the last crazy minutes just like with Liverpool when we lost the Champions.

We are risking NOT qualifying this year! I AM ALREADY PRAYING FOR A MIRACLE!!!! We MUST qualify! WE SHOULD QUALIFY!

COME ON MILANNNNNNN
Let's fight for a place in the Champions League

RESULTS Serie A Week 28 - Twenty Eighth Round Match AS ROMA 2 - 1 AC MILAN Goal by Kaka, Giuly, and Vucinic "Milan Risk NOT Qualifying to the Champions League Next Year!!"

You know what, sometimes I wish we do not qualify, just because I hope there would be revolution and we would rebuild the team like Bayern did last year. Now at the other hand I would hate to see Champions League without Milan. We will see what will happen.

I understand your feelings but it will TERRIBLE watching the Champions without our MILAN!!!!!

Milan definitely needs to rebuild the team with younger players and I hope Berlusconi will sign good players, meaning "fit" this time..

Yes that it very sad! Instead of trying to sign a young with great future Benzema,Aguero,Huntelaar,Adebayor,Villa(26 but world class),he wants Tony or Drogba who are 30.He can't understand that in 2 years we would have again problem in that role and then again we will buy a new striker? Why to spend our money like this?Like we did with oddo and now we want a new RB?
Spend once and keep him for 10 years! We need players with future not players with date of expiry 2 or 3 years.

It's more than a risk ... it will be difficult now to come back on Fiorentina and even more to take their 4th place !!

But no way to play UEFA Cup, it's a boring cup, with boring matchs, all teams playing this competition are tired (more than with CL) because of all the matchs that are, for most of them, in East Europe (when you play against a team like Moscou the thursday and have to play the sunday ...).

I would even prefer that, if we don't qualify for the next CL, Berlusconi decides not to play UEFA Cup ...

For the recruies, there are so much potential targets and rumours that we will know who comes to Milan only just before Euro and just after !!

It is in times like these we must band together and support our Milan! The team needs full support from all of us. All the positive energy we can channel into the team as possible.

That's what makes me mad! MILAN not learning their lesson! Hello, we need YOUNGER players! Just like Pato, Paloschi, Kaka. What's the point of signing old players or big marketing names? I mean my respect for Luca Toni because he is great and can help Milan 1 or 2 years. However, Milan right now needs to REBUILD for a new cycle. Don't you think guys?

I just want everyone to know that the world will NOT end if Milan do not play in the champions league. I get tired of these post that sound like the world is ending after every loss. Milan don't need young players, Milan need world class players. Toni is World Class and the type of player that Milan need. Kaka-Pato-Toni, come on! That would be f-ing awesome! Paloshi needs time, Pato needs time. A player like Toni takes the pressure off our young players so they can become world class and not get thrusted into a situation that sets them up to fail.

Money speaks to players. Look what Bayern did last year, Juve hung on to a lot of players in serie B. It is one season out of the champions league. We all know that Berlu loves the CL, do you really thing he'll just do nothing? Do I want Milan to qualify? Yes, but honestly we haven't shown anything this whole season that makes me think we deserve it. All we can do as fans is support our beloved team, champions league or not.

Forza Milan!!!

Firstly, the CL is important to our financial success as well as providing greater incentives to players and so not reaching it will be very hard for the club to take. However, not reaching it will not ruin the club, it merely means we'll have to have some patience before we're back on top.

Good post JCastagn, our transfer market has to have balance between building for the long term and immediate success. We cannot only build for the long term future, as it would be detrimental to our current success. That said, we have to look to build for the future to some degree, as we're an ageing squad.

There are options as to how to approach solutions for almost all positions. For example, in the goalkeeper area we need a long term replacement for Dida, but equally due to the longer career span a GK has compared to outfield players, an experienced keeper of around 30 wouldn't be considered a short term resolution.

In defence we need probably a minimum of two fullbacks, considering how many players are likely to be leaving that are fullbacks. Zambrotta isn't a long term solution, but can certainly offer a few years of good service yet and would add a great deal of depth in areas we are extremely weak. Then supposing we do get another fullback, we now have the option to take a risk on a younger, less proven player that has potential, as with Oddo, Zambrotta, Janku, Bonera, Favalli and possibly Maldini we have a fair amount of depth and experience, but only in the short term. Therefore, replacing a player like Favalli with a younger talent like Vargas could potentially solve a long term issue for us, as Vargas then has the chance to break into the side and add more quality to the side. However, should he for whatever reason not be a success, we can fall back on the experienced players like Janku or Zambrotta who can immediately do the job.

Central defence is similar, as we could go for an established star (e.g. Lucio) who could immediately improve the defence, or we could go with a rising star (e.g. Zapata) who could be a part of the long term future, and should he fail we continue to rely on Kaladze/Bonera.

Midfield is perhaps a little different, as right now we don't necessarily need experienced talent that can immediately change the side (we have a very good first team midfield), so a younger talent could be brought in as a potential starter (similar to Vargas, such as Aquilani, Flamini, Quaresma or someone else). What is important in midfield is to trim the fat (unnecessary players like Brocchi) and add players we need to add depth, such as a creative talent who can be called on to sub Kaka or Seedorf. Gourcuff was meant to do this, but hasn't done so with enough success.

Finally, in the attack, we have a couple of very young and bright talents in Pato and Paloschi, so in the long term they could be formidable. We have experience in Inzaghi who can come in every so often to make a difference but what we're lacking is the player that can consistently score and make a difference in the team. With Gila failing and Ronaldo injured all the time, we don't have an established star up front who consistently delivers. Toni or Drogba could be the players to do this as both have proven through their careers (especially in recent years) they can deliver and are the strong quality forwards we crave. Pato also plays like an established star and though he can run hot and cold, he does deliver regularly. Should a young talent be available like Pato, one that can have an immediate impact (Benzema or Mario Gomez are potentials), then it could offer another option. Otherwise, someone like Berbatov could make the impact and still leave the others (Pato and Paloschi) time and less resposibility.

Thanks, but personally I think Berlu, Galliani and Braida do it better than me

I don't think that UEFA matches are boring ones. A few years ago when Pool met Alaves in the final is one of the most entertaining matches I ever saw. But I agree that the UEFA Cup schedule is more tiring than the UCL. The clubs usually play on Thursday, then the league games on Sunday. And if the management decides not to rejuvenate our aging squad, we'll find it even harder to reach the 4th place next season
