Lead Us Not Into Temptation...

OK, since the season is almost over, let's try to have some fun (how much fun will, of course, depend upon whether we get 4th place or not).
Anyone who's been on these forums for any extended amount of time knows that there are some topics which are perennial. Inter sucks, Get out (insert name of hated player here), Juve cheats, Milan need to spent more/less money, Inter really sucks and I love all Milan players except for (insert name of really hated player here, that lazy bum) are just some that we who have been around for a while will instantly recognize. But the ne plus ultra perennial topic is this:

We NEED (insert name of superstar--often just on the internet-- player here)!!!!
Really, we NEED him!!! If we don't get him, we will suck our way into Serie C2 and I will personally fly to Milan and shoot Galliani and the entire Berlusconi family and burn down Milanello while I'm at it, because any organization that would be so foolish as not to buy him should rot in Hell!!! Dammit!!! Plus, Inter wants him!!! WE MUST GET HIM!!!!

These posters, who sometimes only show up to beg for a particular player and then disappear, probably to commit suicide (so strong is their commitment and passion), will pimp said player like they own 10% of him, completely ignoring the fact that Milan probabaly isn't going to buy him because:

1. He is never in 100 years coming to Milan, except maybe to visit (*cough*Totti*cough).
2. He plays in a league that is nothing like Serie A or a style that is totally unsuited for it.
3. Galliani is not an idiot.
4. The player in question, whilst young, totally unknown and grading out well on Championship Manager-type computer games, is never getting out of the lower leagues. This is known as the Federico Lazzeri Theorem.
5. In actual game-day performance and skill...the guy sucks, and if you weren't his agent, lover or mother you'd see that. Ah, but love is blind. Or you've never actually seen him play, but his name is really hot on the 'net right now...

Anyway, can you come up with any names that people were just begging for who turned out to have been nothing special, and thank the Lord Milan resisted the temptation to add them to the books.

As a starter, I humbly offer you Francisco Farinos.

Ah ha, most of those guys illustrate point number two: good to excellent in their league (Eredivisie/La Liga/Championat/Argentina), but that's all she wrote. Not suited for Serie A and that's why they are not playing there. Not because Milan can't see how good they are and you, alone, can.

I think there is a big difference between being overrated (just a mediocre player that the media hypes) and dont fitting certain team or league.
For example, was Henry a terrible player when he was at Juventus? So all of the sudden he learnt to play soccer in England becoming one of the greatest fowards in the last 5 years?
This also applies to many players you listed. When Shevchenko left Milan he was fantastic and then you believe he is crap because of his form at Chelsea?

hey RIO, we could also make a list of the ones who most people didn't think could contribute to Milan and have proved everyone wrong... for instance Pirlo replacing Albertini...

or continuing the list above... didn't you all want Kompany, currently lost, I mean playing, in Hamburg?

Hey u don't diss Ballack as I think if Milan actually signed him for free back then, he would have taken over from Seedorf and provide more depth for MIlan as he is more than capable of playing in Kaka or Pirlo role.

Guys that are in the top of my head(Saviola, Aimar, usually they are from South America)

Then there are guys like Lampard(most over-rated player), Terry(good but over-rated also), Kuyt and others.

Overrated do not mean they are bad players, it just means they are good players but not at the point of how the media and sponors made them out to be.

For example, Lampard is the most overrated player not b.c he is not a good player but just not at the point where the media portaryed him to be-which is the top three midfielder in the world.
As for Terry, well, u must admit that he is no where near the likes of Nesta, Canna, Samuel...The thing is that the media had made Terry in the same class as Baersi and Madlini, which he is far far from them.

Let's stay on topic: this is for players that people really wanted to come to Milan ("is they don't come, we will relagate!") but who turned out to be nothing special when they went somewhere else.
Thus, Vince Kompaany, yes. Prime example of big fish, little tiny pond, that. I saw him destroy Roselaere back in 2005 and got pretty excited. Then, I came to my senses, I mean, Roselaere...they made Walter Baseggio look like a jet.

What happens is that people buy what others say or they guide themselves using Football Manager. I mean, who watches the Belgium league or such leagues in order to have an informed opinion?
