Thiago Silva

After many websites reported this rumour, now it seems much closer to being official after the recent Gazzetta article. Now, Galliani has confirmed the deal:

Negotiations are at an advanced stage,” Vice President Adriano Galliani beamed on Sky Italia.

“The lad will arrive in Milan on Sunday and will undergo his medical the following day. If everything goes according to plan, the deal will be finalized.

“I usually only talk after seeing a signature, but I can reveal that we are almost there…”

“Given that we cannot register him and then loan him out, we are keen to go down the same path we followed last year with Pato,” he explained.

“He will be at Milanello from mid-January to train with the rest of the squad, and he will fully become a Rossonero next July.”

Just a question for the Italian speaking fans..in the Italian news papers it says he's going to arrive on LUNEDI, isn't that Monday? Why do all the English news articles claim he's coming on Sunday?

Lunedi is Monday.

I think that is when his medical is, and he arrives on Sunday.

I hope everything to go well and finally be official.Thats a real transfer, not over 30, young and promising. And i have a very good feeling about him.
Thats what Milan needs young and fresh players not players that are carbage on their teams and are not needed.

From all Thiago Silva's youtubes I've watched, there were rarely occasions when Silva did tackles. What I saw from all his highlights is that he is very fast, good at covering and timing and his ability to read the game is decent.

Thiago Silva has arrived in Italy to complete his transfer and admits, “every Brazilian dreams of playing for Milan.”

The 26-year-old defender is the latest addition to the Rossoneri’s Selecao contingent after Kaka, Ronaldinho, Alexandre Pato, Nelson Dida and Emerson.

He had been tracked by Inter and Villarreal, but the Fluminense man chose Milan despite the limits on non-EU players meaning he cannot play until next season.

“I will do everything I can to be the heir to Paolo Maldini, even if he is unique and cannot be repeated,” said Thiago Silva.

“I promise to do my best and to stay at Milan for as long as possible. Every Brazilian dreams of playing for them.

“I am happy to be in Italy and chose Milan because they are a great club.”

He will undergo a medical over the next day or so and then put pen to paper on a contract. No details have been confirmed, but Milan are expected to pay £9m on a four-year deal worth £2.2m per season.

“He is a great central defender who was voted Brazilian player of the year last term. Right now he is the best player around,” said Carlo Ancelotti in Saturday’s Press conference.

“Milan have made an excellent investment for the future. In the meantime he will train with the squad and can play in friendly games.”

Just watching some of his videos posted above. I think I can happily say our search for a striker has finally come to an end with Thiago Silva's signing. Oh wait....

Well, if thats the case, I better don't show any of Franco's youtube video to my son, as it only shows the goals he scored instead of making defensive stops.

Yeah, the Gazzetta video has him just scoring goals. At least it gives another offensive option in corners and frees. He has good reading of the game, but his clearances need a bit of work.

Great signing, he can become an extra striker Carletto could use apart from Ambrosini

Apart from the qualities you all mentioned, this guy seems to have leadership. That's a very rare and important quality in defenders.
