We already have Gattuso, Flamini and Ambrosini. We don't need Essien especially if Pirlo goes. If we add Essien (and Pirlo goes), we will play then with Essien, Gattuso and Flamini. This is a more defensive midfield than Carlo's one.

But what is the point of that? Pirlo was never used to make tons of goals. He is also a player that not so interested to make goal but more passionate to serve other players. There were many occasions he choosed give other player (striker) to score than himself doing it even he had much more chance to make a goal.

What I am trying to say, we should (in my opinion) to be like Milan before, Milan with full of creativity in the midfield (in Carlo era's best time we had Pirlo, Seedorf and Rui Costa/Kaka as our creative/offensive midfielders), just like Barca this season.

That's why I choose Milan go for Hernanes (even this make Dzeko, Ade and other non-EU striker will be impossible for this season) and make a trio of midfield : Pirlo, Hernanes and Gattuso with Pirlo given the freedom to manage the game by himself WITHOUT worriying to defend so deeply like he did this year.

That might very well be, but you can't say, with a straight face, that Essien is a better offensive player than Pirlo.

I think all of you are underplaying Essien offensively. He might not be as creative as Pirlo per se, but he is not Gattuso when it comes to offense. He got a great shot, can dribble himself out of trouble or create problem for other team, good passer and have a good read of the game.

There's no denying his talent and going forward he is a major threat (especially back in Lyon). However, my issue is that we've already got a similar player in Flamini, and what Pirlo offers isn't the same as what Essien brings. We'll lose depth by bringing in Essien, and more importantly how are we going to fit 3 world class DM's in the side?

Bring on the Bison.

He's a far, far better offensive threat than you think. I think Chelsea is woefully misapplying his talents. This guy would be a massive asset and he would add a lot to the squad.

Bring in a the Bison!
