Winter mercato 2024
Pioli has been an ass for the whole season now. He is constantly moaning about how he isn't appreciated more and how nothing is his fault. I understand his frustration, because the constant questioning of his future must be incredibly annoying, but it comes with the territory. Milan, despite all of our struggles over the years, remains one of the biggest brands in soccer. The coach of a team like this is always under the microscope. He doesn't get to live off of one Scudetto win for 10-15 years like he would for a team like...Sassuolo or Monza here. If he doesn't like it, go coach a smaller team.

Hansi Flick would be my preference with all the names mentioned as well. His work at Bayern was tremendous and they still haven't recovered from losing him. I think Gaitier might be an interesting option as well. It is hard to beat PSG in Ligue 1 and he was able to accomplish that. Lopetegui is a hard no for me. I just don't know what he has actually done that makes him a worthy candidate for this job
Hansi Flick is 59 years and has looked like a decent coach for 1.5 of those years, the rest of his managerial career is nothing that stands out really.

Bear in mind that he took over a Bayern team that had won the league 7 seasons in a row and was already one of Europe's best, so it's not like he built anything from scratch. Don't get me wrong, he did very well there, but could he do the same at Milan with a totally different starting point and limited budgets?
I'm not sure if he ever managed team before Bayern. He worked as Sport director/Assistant manager.
Also, he took Bayern which almost got erased from existence by Niko Kovac. He had to pick up ruins and debris and make again something out of it. Yes it was very quality team, but still... it's not often seen even for those kind of teams that recover and improve so quickly.
Can he? We can't know if we don't try... In my opinion, he for sure have better chances to succeed than some other "big" or "big-ish" managers recently being linked to us. For Conte we know he can't work with limited budgets. He proved that more than once.
At the end, even for "highly rated" Guardiola we don't know if he could do that, because, as manager, he was born with silver spoon in his mouth and been in "luxury" ever since.

If you don't think what Flick did at Bayern was worth a damn, just take a look at Nagelsmann (who was touted as the biggest genius in football) and Tuchel (plenty of experience managing some of the biggest clubs in world) have done since then. I am not saying he is the perfect candidate. Frankly speaking, the way they described what they are looking for, we are basically trying to find the Theo/Tomori/Leao of coaches, and that is a difficult thing to project. I am only saying he is the best of the candidates mentioned
Sampinjon:
Those "ruins and debris" after Kovac that you are talking about was still winning the league and reaching last 16 of CL. So I stand by my statement that Flick didn't build anything from scratch. Bayern got as many points in Kovac' only full season as they got in Flick's only full season, and you called it "almost erased from existence".

I'm definitely not saying what Flick did at Bayern was worth nothing, at least in the 2019/20 season when he took over after Kovac. That season turned out to be fantastic, also thanks to Flick of course. But the next season he couldn't follow up and did nothing more than what is expected at a club like Bayern. So that's just over half an excellent season at the helm. Is it enough?

I'm just asking questions because I want the best for Milan and I'm not entirely convinced.
Where you will find manager who "followed up" every season? Small "oscillations" are normal. For example, Klopp, who's one of the most rated coaches at the moment had season where he barely scratched participation in Conference league.
At two factors, points per game and goals per game, Flick is the most successful manager in Bayern's more than 120 years long history. And they had way more "bigger" names than him on their bench.
Is he perfect choice, probably not, but when it comes to available and realistic, for sure is one of the best choices.

Bayern won the triple in his first season in charge. I mean, it is hard to follow that up and do better lol. And as someone who follows Bayern regularly, I can tell you, Kovac was a disaster. Yes they still won the league, but the team was awful. It's fair to question the candidate, but then again, all the candidates we have are questionable and we have to settle for someone. I am just saying i like Hansi better than Lopetegui/Gallardo/whoever else we are linked with is all

Nowhere, and I've never said that either. But after that one good season he went to a season comparable to what you referred to as ruins and erased from existence, it's worth asking questions at least.

Again, Flick did very well for at least half his relatively short time at Bayern. All credit to him for that.

Is he the best option available? Maybe.

I totally understand your points. And I would also rate him ahead of Lopetegui and some of the other we've been linked to.

And yes, there's no manager we can hire who comes with a guarantee of success.

Well, no. That's first season, when he did decent. Kovac started losing his marbles between seasons, which culminated at his second season.
