I've seen very inconsistent data on capology. I always tend to believe the Italian media on these matters. GDS puts out a report every year and Emerson was listed as 2.5 net. But I can't find that now.

I believe in Italy, all taxes are collected at the source of income. There is nothing more between Emerson and the country after he gets paid from Milan. My point is, he gets 2.5m from Milan in his bank account. Which is more or less the same amount he got from Tottenham. The taxes paid are a burden on the club, since the club pays those on behalf of the player essentially. How he negotiated with the club, i have no idea. But it makes sense that what he cared about is what enters his bank account after taxes.
So my point was that he didn't double his wages when he came to Milan.

Unless they have some weird laws, that legally can not be done. It 's tax on salary. You must deliver salary before you can tax it. He did not doubled net earnings but he doubled amount spent on him. He cost Milan double he costed Spurs, so deliver double impact on the field, please.
As for salary, at Capology he is listed as 2,5M net as well. They're probably using same source. Or GDS is their source, or they're GDS's source or they found it separately... don't know if football players are considered as "public servants", so anyone who asks about their salaries, as you can ask about presidents, ministers etc, will get official information.

He didn't double his salary. Players are not getting the 2.5 million or whatever in one lump sum so I am not sure why tax timing matters. Here I Canada (or everywhere I know) each paycheck has total amount of pay minus taxes, already deducted. At the end of the year I file my taxes and it is possible that too much or too little taxes were deducted in the paycheck, based on other circumstances, then I may owe or get a refund for taxes deducted.

@Reza At the end it doesn't matter. It costs club same amount of money. At which point of process (do they "officially" take it from club or player) state puts it's fingers on part of money is not that important.

But persons salary is not net, it's gross. His salary is doubled, it's just unfortunate for him that due to certain laws he gets only part of it. Salary is doubled, earnings are not.

Countries tend to grab from recipients.
Look at it as financial forensic. If you look at documentation he's payed 4,7M. From that amount, country took XX for taxes and other things if there are (as health insurance, for example, in Serbia health insurance is deducted from salary and when you get sick you're cured at country's expense. Treatments for life threatening diseases as cancer, diabetes etc are free for all citizens, having job or not etc).
Now when they do those annual or whatever checks and investigations to see if everything fits, they open "person's page" and check: (divide into months) employer transferred 4,7M, 2,5M deducted for taxes etc - everything fine. Entire check is at one place. But if he would be transferred only net salary, than it is necessary to access employers data as well to see if tax is payed etc. Imagine doing that double comparative job for all of the people. For each month. It's additional time and workers they'll have to pay even now in "digital format", not to mention 60 years ago when they had to dive through actual papers.
And that's why we get "total minus tax". Employer sent us "total", country intercepted it, plucked it and delivered us "minus tax".

We should not compare us with other clubs, especially with those which are above our paygrade. It is not the same if 5M is 0,5%, 5% or 10% of your payroll. It's not same if your 5M is 8% of what top earners get or 60%.  It's not same if you're payed 5M at Real, Milan or Atalanta. Expectations are different. If you have "balls" to ask Atalanta for that money, you're expected to be star player. And you will have to deliver that. Or to face deserved shitstorm. Similar for Milan. Most of the people, do expect (with good reason) more than just ok for that money. Theo is payed 5,1M, Royal 4,7M. Why not expect similar ratio on the field as well?
Since you mentioned Dest, let's use him and Royal as example how it should work. They both had few bad seasons behind them. Dest went from Barcelona to PSV, he got 3,somethingM salary at PSV. He was payed 6,something at Barca. That's around 50% salary drop. Now look at Royal. At Spurs he was payed 2,5M per season. But in Milan he's 4,7M. That's almost 50% salary INCREASE. WTF? How? Why? Based on what? I doubt that Gerry went to London, put gun on Royal's head and said "You must sign for doubled salary or I'll shoot you". So dude had balls to ask for double salary despite being flop reject (how and why he was granted that request is for deep psychiatric analysis of folks who did that) and now some people be butthurt when fans expect from him? Leave "poor guy" at peace? Seriously?

All this trouble just to prove Emerson is a bad player? Why get so worked up simply because people say a certain player hasn't been as terrible as expected in recent games?
