Summer mercato 2012
Rumor about Khedira is close to a joke IMO. How come Madrid will let go the German best player in Euro 2012? Khedira showed great improvement in Euro 2012 compared to World Cup 2010 and was the best player for die Nationalmannschaft in the tournament. I think, he has turned to a modern midfielder, who can attack and defense in similar quality.

IMO Khedira will boost Milan play if he comes but I do doubt he comes since we already have too many defensive midfielders and what wee need now is a regista or a creative midfielder if Monto plays as the anchor.

Mesbah and cash for Hernanes http://www.milannews.it/?action=read&idnotizia=87022

It says 18 million euros + Mesbah, I would be surprised if we would spend that much money on him these days.

I would be surprised too. Also, I wonder how much Mesbah is valued in this deal, 2M or -2M? Grinundwech

Plus, there are simply no amazing LB's out there, they are all either past it or would cost to much and wouldn't even be their natural position. Lahm and Dani alves would be unreal, Lahm will never leave and if he did his price is at least 20mln euros + , same price on dani alves and they are both naturally RB's i believe? but no doubt they could play Lb just as efficiently.

Evra, ashley cole seem to be past their prime and in decline, i definitely don't want a player like that. Speed was always their strong point and it's risky going for players who rely so much on speed who are already at an old age (both of them 31 y/o) balzaretti may be 30, but won't come close to their contract demands and is also italian + would cost much less.

Jordi Alba, when you talk young very promising LB's he's the only one who comes to mind and he would be quite costly and would favour a move to barcelona or real instead of us.

you missed marcel schmelzer........talanted, superb positioning, good at defending corners, offensively good too, international experience, and young ........but problem is dortmund sees his as the future capitano

yeah sorry I've heard of that guy but I don't know much about him. Dortmund right now is a gold mine for young talents.

BTW, seems like we've signed the captain of the under 15 argentina squad feulissier, midfielder apparently very talented boy. It seems like we have serious plans for the next decade I'm liking it. I'm just concerned about us investing in player for now, for our current team. Signing youth and giving our current youths a bigger chance is great but I think at minimum it should be neccesary we sign a defender a top class striker and possibly a creative midfielder to complete our team.

Great news that andy carrol has been loaned to west ham, now we don't have to WORRY about him being our ibra replacement anymoreBig Grin
Roma sign Destro for 15M total (11M this year 4M next year)

I read that they've given 11.5m plus 4.5m next year, with two youth players as co-ownership as part of the deal, each rated at 1.5m, meaning the deal is worth 19m in total.

That quite frankly is insane for a player that only has one good (not even great) season at the top level and is still unproven. He's worth about half of that.

Well, getting rid of Mesbah's a massive bonus, even if he's free in the deal. Hernanes is welcomed, as he's a quality player who would dictate play in midfield, as well as being robust.

It would be interesting to see how the team lineup if we were to get Hernanes. Would he play on the Right, left or even in front of the defence?

What I do think is if we get Hernanes at that price, then I simply don't see Kaka returning.

But I dont really care, if that means we could get our hands on German. While not WC, he is certainly better than Traore, Muntari or Constant.

There could be multiple reasons. As Beppe previously mentioned, the two players have different characteristics and therefore Mourinho might be looking to get Modric who is a more technical player to develop play and dominate possession better. Modric can also play in any role in midfield, meaning he's versatility is a strength to Mourinho (Khedira generally doesn't start high up the pitch). Finally, there's also doubts as to where else Mourinho would play a 45m player. Xabi Alonso is seen as vital to the side and dictating their game, Ozil is untouchable, as is Ronaldo and Di Maria doesn't really play in the same position.

There is one thing above all as to why Real might release Khedira, and that is there are rumours that he and Mourinho don't get on.

I agree with you that Khedira's one of the most improved German players in recent years (Ozil is another, as Mourinho has done great work with them). If he comes, it's similar to Hernanes, in that he can play pretty much in any role in midfield (obviously offering different qualities to the Brazilian), but we'd need to work on finding the best dynamic between him and the other midfielders.

What I will say is imo he's different to our current midfielders, as only Ambro, Montolivo and maybe Muntari can play centrally. The others are generally shuttlers, which Khedira can do well, but he's also an option in front of defence, meaning in our squad he'd add a dynamic that's kind of missing.

Well, when your coach knows what he wants, when the management does try to get what the coach wants, when the coach likes to use young players and has clearly made his project, and of course, when the club is willing to invest, that doesn't look that "insane".

If Zeman thinks Destro will be his main player in attack (14 goals in a small team, now he will be in a good team with probably a simple role : scoring and nothing else), I think it's fair to pay, even overpay for this player.

If at the end of the season, Destro will have scored 10 goals, it will be labelled a failure, but he he ends the season with 20-25+ goals, then that means they will have been right to pay that amount.

PS : Even if the young players are rated 1.5M, can it really be added to the final amount of money spent ? I mean, these young players would maybe never have been used by Roma (didn't read the article yet, so I don't know who they are), so they are "used" to make some deals easier, like we also do ... But I wouldn't add them (financially) to the final price.
About Real Merda, why Modric over Kedhira ? Some of you ask this question, but how do you know it is Kedhira who will be dropped from the first team ?

They could easily play this way :

Ronaldo - Benzema - Di Maria
Modric - Khedira - Ozil

Or

Ronaldo - Benzema
Ozil
Modric - Xabi Alonso - Khedira

I would agree with you if they paid something like 14m for him, but they've doubled his market value to get him, and we're not even talking about a natural phenomenal talent like Pato. This is a player who has shown one good season in Serie A and hasn't proven himself at a top club and now has immense pressure on his shoulders to make sure he doesn't flop. This in a country where players are constantly under scrutiny and the clubs are having financial problems, with the FFP looming. This deal reminds me a little of Andy Carroll, albeit with less money involved.

Like you said, Destro has to score 20+ goals this season just to justify this cost, and with Zeman even this might not be enough as Roma will be all out attack meaning he'll get chances his way. About the youngsters being part of the cost, they are assets within the club and therefore have a value as part of the deal, so imo it is only correct to include them in the price paid.

I want to say I don't think you're wrong if you think that they can justify spending this amount, but rather I think it's a massive risk given the amount of pressure involved in this deal.

To be honest, the bid isn't as high as it seems, as 18 million euros + Mesbah is the equivalent of ~15-16 million euros in total Sagrin
