Summer mercato 2015
We made an official bid, and were rejected.
Valuation is as agreed, but we wanted to pay in two 5M installments, they want 10M up front.

Right now we have Menez, Cerci, Matri, Niang (injured) who could play there. I do think we need one striker for backup if Matri indeed leaves.

I tend to disagree ...
Our attacking roster is : Bacca, Luiz Adriano, Niang (injured), Matri
Cerci and Menez can be added to this list.

That means we have 6 players for 2 spots. Niang being injured means we have 5 players. If Matri leaves, he doesn't necessarely have to be replaced IMO. Then, of course, if another one leaves (Cerci and Menez for example), that will be another story !!

4 strikers (with a 5th young one) is enough as we don't play in any European competition. More is just too much.

petagna??? i dont think he is that good, is he??
i just remember we still got mastour
Di Molfetta and Fabbro. Was it Galli or Brocchi who said that they are ready for the first team. Di Molfetta I think went to one of our feeder clubs though.

Here is a pretty good scouting video on Soriano. I watched a few of his videos and every time I think about what a good upgrade over Poli and Montolivo he would be. Surely not a fantasista, unless he improves the final ball but for the price he would come at- I'd take him over Witsel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7WeJk1La_k

Again, that's not to say that Witsel is but in my personal opinion, he did have that something more. If we directly compare the two players, Witsel has size, strength, tackling ability and short quick passing that he's very well known for and apparently very good at. Soriano doesn't seem to be hailed for anything in particular, and if he was I don't think its anything that Witsel doesnt have either, because neither of them are a Pirlo/regista that I think we need to begin with.

It doesn't look like Miha is going to play with our classic idea of a regista anyways, or a particular player who can control the tempo and spread possession. I think he wants our midfield to be quick and work hard, exchanging quick passes and joining the attack and vice versa (attackers joining the mid/defence). Seems like a high press smoke your opponent all at once type of mentality. We saw in most our preseason that we go all out from the beginning and dont stop attacking, and Miha even said we should never stop trying to score. I like that mentality alot.

If Alex or Paletta leaves, I hope we get another defender somehow, of some type of quality. Someone in the 10-15m range who can make a difference, not asking for too much. Then if we get Soriano I'll support the move, but again I don't think our midfield has any star power tbh. Pjaca will be interesting, and hopefully slot into that trequartista spot.

The bold part seems an odd statement to make, especially if you don't really know the player. Anyway, you're right, he might just be another rotational player, he's not yet shown he's ready to be a player that can really step up and be a great player (for the record, I consider Witsel in the same boat). In terms of being better than de Jong and Montolivo, he's technically better than de Jong, but will never play in the same role. Imo he's a better fit for Mihajlovic than Montolivo, because he plays at a much higher tempo. Right now, I think only Bertolacci is actually better, not counting de Jong who I think is too different to compare.

On Witsel, how much have you actually watched of him? The parts in italic are apparently the opinion of others and not yourself?

I'm confused by this statement, who's been playing bad for 2 years? Honda's been on and off (mostly off) for us since joining a year and a half ago, but prior to that was very good. Cerci has been bad for 1 year, but again was very good for Torino before that.

I agree I'd rather keep Honda than Cerci.

The talk is Soriano isn't going to be the only new midfield signing. On him he's good not great he takes up very good positions is a better passer than 90% of our mids.He is better than Noce Poli Mauri even current Montolivo.

It seems now that Alex will leave and not Paletta which is good.
The Pjaca talk seems to be coming one Croatian source and other Croatian sources rehashing it.I think he isn't coming infact Im certain he isn't.

Id move fore Maksimovic and get rid of Zaccardo Alex Zapata with wages of Zaccardo Alex Zapata thats 10m or so and we should get 6-8m for Zapata could cover Maksimovic. So easy to post taht obviously won't be that easy.

A meeting for Witsel could happen next week , if we have Bertolacci DeJong Witsel Soriano Monty Poli with Bona and Honda being able to slot in its not a bad midfield for a team hoping for 3rd.

Ibra maybe Bacca Menez Cerci Niang Adriano as the attacker is pretty good.

Abate Antonelli Mexes DeSciglio Ely Romagnoli Paletta hopefully Maksimovic (not linked to him I know) it is very capable of 3rd maybe 2nd if all clicks.

Could you say where you saw we might get more than one midfield (i.e. Soriano)? I haven't seen anything like that other than the links to Pjaca.

cutrone?

Don't think we have anyone ready. Cutrone looks good at youth level, but I'd say he should be allowed to grow.

I don't think this is enough tbh. It's not so much that we don't have the numbers, but I agree with those who think we'd need to add a striker. I think we'd be lacking for a real CF were Bacca and Luiz Adriano unavailable. I'd sacrifice Cerci in a heartbeat for the "right" sort of player.

Brocchi recently said in his opinion Mastalli, Calabria and Di Molfetta were the most ready for the first team. Not sure about Fabbro.

Thanks for the video.
Agree with ACMilan1983. We need a CF backup if Matri leaves and I don't think a young CF is enough even we don't play in European competition. We have Bacca and Adriano as our pure CF and both are starter which means they have risk to be unable to play. I prefer experienced striker with low wage.

Luca Toni for 2-3M and Gilardino for free. A team full of champions. Galliani, wake up !! Sagrin

A good option would be Chelsea's Loic Remy. I'm sure he's available for less then €10M and if we really do need a 3rd or 4th choice CF, he'd fit the bill. He's already playing backup for Falcao, Diego Costa, and probably even Higuain or Pedro if he comes.

I don't know about him, as long as reliable and low wage, take him. Big Grin

Anyway, Matri is still with us, a bit useless discussing the topic in details.  Angel

I know it's a silly rumour but it would be typical Galliani to give up on a player (Mauri) before he has even played for us
