View Full Version : Milan v Chievo October 25th ...
Ok, here's your thread lked, lets discuss our next opponents.
Oliveira has to start, why have we bought him if not to play him. Aside from that change, i'm pretty sure the majority of the team will be the same.
We will win this game! :p283:

Thought u were going to let Iked open the thread Jim? :lala:
But I do agree that we will win this game...we werent a strong enough "team" to beat Palermo, whose position atop the table isnt a fluke..they have been showing this potential for some time now.
I was anxious to see how we would measure up to them, as I knew they were truly on form, while we had a less than impressive start to the campaign...yet we should be able to muster enough class and spirit to defeat Chievo....because if we dont, it will surely be crisis time.
Oliveira should start, I agree with u here as well, and I hope Gourcuff can get some minutes, as we need his youth and fearless approach to games.
Nesta and Kaladze in the center of defense, Bonera should get a chance, so Cafu can rest, while I am all for Marek to start at LB. Rino, Pirlo(to be subbed as soon as we have a commanding lead), Seedorf, and Kaka in the middle, and as Oliveira and Pippo striking.
What I would like to see though, is more dribbling from Seedorf, and if he plays, Oliveira...we need a player a la Rui Costa..who can take on, and beat, a defender or three...as this I maintain, is the BEST way to defeat teams that defend in depth.
In the Palermo game, which we, (as usual dominated...but failed to score)..this was so evident, and it seems difficult for me to understand how the coach et al cant see it...
Swift play is for naught, unless we get behind the defense, and our forwards attack the ball...again something we failed to do in a meaningful way vs our Sicillian opponents on the weekend....
We need the win, good bad or ugly, before the derby, and I hope that we will score early, so that we can rest some players for the big 6 pointer coming up on the weekend.

i hope to see Simic start ahead of Nesta who should be dropped with that costly mistake he made... at the moment... Simic hasn't put a wrong foot so that alone should justify his chance to start...
Thought u were going to let Iked open the thread Jim? :lala:
I hope Gourcuff can get some minutes,
Bonera should get a chance, so Cafu can rest
i hope to see Simic start ahead of Nesta
Warro, i gave lked at least 5 mins to open the thread :D
As Gourcuff & Simic are both nursing injuries, i would doubt if things have changed that much for them to be on the bench. A possibility i guess, but i a doubtful one at that.
It's a risk playing Bonera at right-back, he just doesn't offer us enough in that position. But i guess we will need Cafu quite fresh for the Derby. Lets hope Bonera will play well and make me eat my words for doubting his ability as a full-back.
Chievo will be tough, they held Roma in Rome ... i just feel we will win this game and i hope to be proved correct for once :D
an early probable team line-up i found:
Dida; Bonera, Maldini, Kaladze, Jankulovski; Gattuso, Brocchi, Seedorf; Kaką; Gilardino, Oliveira
zZ[-_-]Zz
23-10-2006, 13:56
Jim... you are easily influenced by that fabrication about Simic bein' injured... i have been readin' the team trainin' exercises for the last few weeks to note that Simic is always in full trainin'... and he was suddenly "injured" so that Ancelotti can play his preferred CB pairin' of Nesta & Kaladze... without incurrin' the wrath of some fans as to why the best defender of the season so far is sittin' out again without a clear & reasonable explaination...
and guess what? after the match... he is back trainin' alongside all the fully-fit players again...
i think we should play Oliveira and Gila upfront, we haven't seen these two play a whole match together so maybe it could turn out good who knows? We should experiment with the attack because we see that Gila and Inzaghi partnership is not working, Inzaghi is not in form and he should rest because he's playing every game. If we need to score he would come in Gila's place and i've noticed that whenever he comes in the second half he scores a goal so who knows maybe it'll work this time too.
width and pace thats what we lack and need to get soon imo. olivera and pippo for me pippo looks more likely to score at the moment and i really would like to see gourcoff play soon hope his ribs are nearly healed. istill think despite his mistake that nesta and kaladze are our best central defenders at the minute so i would keep with them heres my 11
dida
cafu--nesta--kaladze---maldini
gattuso--pirlo---jankulovski
kaka
pippo--olivera
zZ[-_-]Zz

besides width & pace... we lack the most important thing... GOALS... and thus Gilardino cannot be handed that responsibility of startin' except comin' off the bench only when the score is secured with us cruisin' away to victory...
now I just want them to run for start...run!

i think we will win this game and be in good spirits against inter....any1 got any news on to watch the match live? much appreciated thank you
Nesta should definatly play. That mistake against Chievo was a type of mistake that Nesta has not done in a long looong time. It happens.....and sitting him down after that wont do him or the team any good. He should play as in the past 3-4 weeks he has been looking like his own self, and we all know who his own self is.....the best defender out there!
This time...please no Seedorf. I hope Gourcuff can make it, if not......I would rather see Brocchi in Seedorf's spot for Wednesday. Seedorf has been playing so slow, it takes him eternity to make a 10 yard pass. He needs to lay off a little bit and get his act together.
About the forwards...........just no Inzaghi - Gilardino! That is the worst possible pairing but we see it too often. It has to be either Oliveira - Inzaghi, Oliveira - Gilardino..........or I wouldn't even mind seeing Oliveira - Boriello at this time. I am hoping for one of the last 2 and leaving Inzaghi to get some rest. We haven't seen a lot of Oli-Gila as I trully believe it can greatly benefit Gilardino. Oliveira will drop deep to collect which will leave Gilardino to do his business in the box, because he is after all a box-striker!
Dida - Bonera - Nesta - Maldini - Jankulovski - Pirlo - Gattuso - Gourcuff/Brocchi - Kaka - Oliveira - Gilardino

I don't we can get lower than we did vs Palermo, this side is too good to do worse (we didn't actually play that bad against Palermo mind).
I will be there on Wednesday, watching the match and shouting my lungs out!!
I still believe we have a lot to contribute this season!
Let's hope our wide areas are better utilised, slightly more pace in our build up and more movement amongst the front pairing. We WILL get out of this slump sometime, I'm willing to stay patient and believe.

I assure you, spiritually, I'm at every match ;)
Zz']Jim... you are easily influenced by that fabrication about Simic bein' injured ...
How am i easily influenced by reporting what someone else has written?
Why do you believe it's a fabrication? You think it's some sort of conspiracy against the Croat?
It's just as possible that the 'niggling' injury could be keeping him from playing even though he's taking part in full training.
Whatever the reason behind his absence from the side/bench, the possibility of it changing (and Simic therefore being recalled to the side/bench) within 3 days is a small one don't you think?
Hope that Carletto would not put Seedorf on the field this time..just to proof that my view is correct that Seedorf is is always slowing the team pace of play!
I would bet my money for Milan against Chievo and Inter whoever Carletto put on the field...emmmhhh of course not Seedorf this time as he might be too tired to be played every single game of Milan.

You are so right, I`m actually starting a anti Seedorf campaign, and not in the sense that I dont like him,I simply think he slows our game, a lot,he doesnt fit our game anumore. He always looks aroound after he gets the ball. And with that player like Kaka, Oliveira,Gila and Pippo loose because they are pacey players who always have the tendency to attack no matter what!.If you know what I mean. anyway thats my Opininon

well, it's not like Carleto has tons of options, guys. With Ambro, Sergio, Gorky all injured, Janku seesm to be the only option for Seedorf's role. But if Carlo plays Janku at LM, then he will have to play Favalli or Maldini, who still isn't match fit from his latest injury spell on the sidelines, and in the end people will again find him at fault for doing that.
so ... you see that Carlo isn't exactly spoiled with options these days given injuries to some key players.

from acmilan.com
ROSSONERI SQUAD FOR CHIEVO-MILAN
10/24/2006
KEEPERS: Dida, Fiori, Kalac
DEFENDERS: Bonera, Cafu, Costacurta, Kaladze, Nesta, Jankulovski, Simic
MIDFIELDERS: Brocchi, Gattuso, Guerci (n.28), Kaką, Pirlo, Seedorf
STRIKERS: Borriello, Gilardino, Inzaghi, Ricardo Oliveira
Kui posted something on him in the "Milan youth players" thread. I haven't seen him play but have Kui's post was the second time that I have heard some great stuff about him.
Seedorf is not playing good right now and Gourcuff is injured. I would be happy if Guerci plays as he might prove to be a good surprize. I know that Miilan is forced to win and bring trophies and that limits our options to try out young and unproven players, but this situation I guess demands that we do that. Then again......you never know as this guy can turn out great and claim some minutes for the rest of the season providing great cover.
Brocchi would be another option in Seedorf's spot this wednesday. Brocchi si lively and bring energy on the field. He will definetly be a better option then Seedorf given the recent performances by Seedorf.
I would go with........
.................dida............
bonera...nesta...kaladze...jankulovski......
.............pirlo........
...gattuso.......seedorf.........
............kaka..........
..oliveira......gilardino......
we simply dont have any solutions with Serginho and Gourcuff injured and Cafu cant play every match...
or maybe this one: dida-cafu,nesta,simic,kaladze-pirlo,gattuso,jankulovski,kaka-gila,oliveira

You're getting lazy Warro. It's all on the net, you just have to google it.
Alex Guerci ( born on July 31, 1989) is an AC Milan's primavera player.
So far he played 5 matches this season and scored one goal, when Milan's primavera team has beaten Triestina's youngsters.
Guerci allready played together with Milan seniors on a friendly match against Varese, when he replaced Costacurta in 62nd minute.
He was also included in Italy u-17 team.
Plays as an attacking midfielder, but it's impossibile to find out which foot he prefers :)))
Picture of Alex Guerci ( it wasn't a peace of cake job finding one ). He's the one on the left, of course.

There's nothing wrong with Ancelotti's tactics.. I honestly really prefer his style than the traditional 4-4-2. The players just need to play a lot more quickly and the fullbacks have to provide the necessary width.

I agree we should give these boys a chance in games we are winning comfortably(anyone remember what thats like?)
Personally I would prefer to keep them at Milan and learn everyday in training the "Milan Way" rather than loan them out and have them learning a different system or even learning bad habits.
Why cant we bring on young talent? It seems we like to introduce them to the squad but dont take the next step to actually introduce them to the team.
Surely the Milanello set up would impress youngsters and help bring them on?
According to Gazzetta, Milan will be without Inzaghi, Pirlo and Nesta, who will be rested (not official) , while Maldini certanly misses the match in Verona !

Chievo, after the disastreous start, brought back their legend coach Luigi Del Neri, and he immediately started proving his worth, by drawing at Olimpico against Roma.

Hope that Seddorf being in the bench and Carletto put Brocchi or the new kid on the team... Gurci??
With Seedorf..most of our opponent knew already where whe want to pass the ball...in slow motion ..and make the opponent defense got ready to stop our Kaka and strikers movements....too easily to be read.....

CHIEVO-MILAN 0-0: palo di Seedorf su punuizione a due dai trenta metri.
seedorf hit the post from 30 meters if i'm correct.
man we really are cursed at the moment
Good play by Milan. Chievo very lucky at the moment. Bonera had a shot deflected as well almost going in. Good pressure by our team.
wow ascoli lead against roma 1:0 in the olimpico. seems as the giallorossi also have some problems recently.
Good challenge by Simic on Brighi in the area .... Luciano gets a yellow card
Kaka not playing the best right now. He needs to improve. Loses a lot of balls in the attacking third.
we've had 4 shots, 3 on target ... keeper has saved 2, the other hit the post
Seedorf just wide with another free-kick
A kaka drive is blocked and their keeper cuts out a ball but collides with Gilardino ... ouch
Impressive build up by Milan with a super cross by Janku. Gila went brave in and seems to have hurt the keeper. Playing good......Chievo has no ideas or possesion.

Bonera's crosses are really some of the worst ones I have ever seen. He is solid defensefly however.
Mrki, to answer your question....yes. Milan is playing fast in midfield and that's opening Chievo well right now. That's how space for the goal was created. Pirlo was on the right and passed it to Brocchi in the middle who turned fast and gave the ball to Janku who had space to shoot. We basically switched the point of attack very quickly and Chievo had no chance to re-allign their defence. That's how you open up these defensive teams ant that's what Milan is doing at the moment.
Gila and Oliveira have really worked well together. They havens scored obviously but they create for one another and work off-each other. We might want to see this partnership more often....let's see how they do in the second half.
We just need to be carefull after the break. Keep possesion and keep tight in the back. Sneaking in another one in the first 10-15 mins should really throw Chievo off.

Janculovski!!!! What a goal!!!! And Oliveira is trying hard...playing quite well actually. Kaka is mostly blocked by Chievo defenders, Pirlo havent been seen much...Overall performance is not bad...although our defenders panic a lot when Chievo is attacking. They should calm down a little bit.

two offsides for us .... Semioli has been blocked once and gone close with a header ... pay attention to him milan!
Nesta for Bonera..I believe
from what I can see, Bonera out, Nesta in. Probably Simic will play as a RB.

Gila just missed an open goal after some nice work by Seedorf and Oliveira ... it wasn't exactly a sitter but pretty close to it
Ancelotti recognises the danger Semioli is representing and moves Simic out wide to counter ... good move Carlo!
Dida with a great one handed save and then follows it up with a block on the line!
Before Gila missed open net, Chievo had 100% chance. Player went away from Pirlo and Nesta and Dida saved with super save.

How did Gila managed to miss open net?Did he punched the ball high or?
we are playing just the way we shouldnt be playing. Staying back and playing for counter attacks. One dangerous cross, or a foul and it could be 1-1. We need to push up and control the CM. Carlo is doing the same thing again!:(
Well now we have soemthing like Lippi's formation.. let's see how Pirlo does.
Carlo is an idiot, he simply prooves it again and again. this is stupid move.

just because you don't agree with it that doesn't make it a stupid move ;)
the players are showing tiredness and he added muscle to the midfield as Chievo were starting to get way too easily to dangerous position inside Milan's PA.
If played out correctly, there is nothing wrong with playing with counters, actually even better since Chievo are coming forward and opening up at the back.
I would have rather seen RO stay on the pitch but we'll see ...

Now we got inter!!!!!Lets teach them how is to earn a championship on the field and to paypers!
I don't see room for criticism. Except for the finishing. Gila missed a good chance and so did Kaka. Biliello looked funny on the first one...what happend. lol
Carlo changed to a X-mass tree formation as we were losing some momentum in the middle and Chievo looked dangerous at times.
Overall a good performance. Towards the end both teams were tired as there was that big gap in the middle. Nobody was moving up and counters were the only thing.
A good win and good three points looking at the fact that we had some great chances to make it a bigger lead.

I remember someone saying about Ancelotti trying Gila and Oliveira together, because the reason of Gila not scoring was poor service by Inzaghi...Well, I guess this game proved that it doesnt matter how good is the service for Gilardino - he doesnt score anyway! I think for Milan - Inter we should play Inzaghi - Oliveira...RO was brilliant today. Can anyone explain me why he was substituted and not Gilardino????
Kaka tried to do everything in todays match...good work. But I think he got tired at the end and missed a lovely opportunity to score another goal. Poor Kaka...everything is on his shoulders now... he needs some help, otherwise he ll be exhausted by the middle of this season....

well, once you get off Gila's back, he might actually score ;).
He played well today and set up his teammates on a number of ocassions - he may not be scoring now but is contributing in other ways to the team.
why RO got subbed? well, in a X-tree we usually have a target man at the top, like Gila ... but why even bring this up since they both got subbed off in a matter of 3-5 minutes ;)
Anyways, we got the 3 pts without much effort ... let's get ready for Inter.
Very glad we won this game as i sad before IMO this game was important before the game agianst Inter . Gila - Oliveira partership wasn't bad they created good chanes for other players and i have to say Oli created great one for Gila but those thing happen to players who are in crisis sorry for Gila hope soon he will be the old one ..
Good game by Kaka who was very active as allways , thanks to Dida and Janku we got 3 points from this match .. Hope we countinue with wins and better games .
Jamie after we won against Anderlecht and now against Chievo i think you bring good luck when you open theards like these :tong:..
haha, i wish that were true lked :D
wow my grandmother could have done better in those chances Borriello :grinser: had maybe Gila could have scored if Carlo didn't substituted him but it doesn't matter now.
it's important that we won before the derby to keep our morale high, i was impressed with Oliveira also and for the derby him and Pippo would be the best choice upfront.

Watched the match, it was dull, nothing exciting at all, but we WON!!
Now, defensively we looked solid, midfield looked solid, and today, I won't criticise Seedorf too much whose movement was good. I think today was a very important win despite the strikers still looking like they couldn't score even if they were left alone on the goal line with the ball. However, credit to Gila, he worked hard for the team, he missed a bad sitter, but I'm sure his performance on the whole did his confidence well.
Most of all, after what I'd say was rock bottom on Sunday, today we looked a lot better in the team's movement and use of wide areas. Even the pacing of our play had improved, as we weren't monotonous and increased the tempo when necessary.
Personally, I wasn't expecting much more from the side, we made it as clear as day that we're more interested in Saturday, so the lack of effort or ambition I understood as the game went on. Fact is, I look forward to Saturday, it's time to put in their place, as they've seemed to have gained belief and some confidence in winning this year.

Yeah, well I think that Carlo substituted Gila for Boriello, because he realized his mistake (about substituting RO). Gila missed a lot of chances...although he was noticable on the pitch...he did try to fight for the ball and pass, but his main responsibility is to score..which he still cannot do.

Gila is, for me, still a super potential. But he playes like a scared child. Leave him alone, when Milan plays better, he will play better too. he doesnt play good now, I know...but he can score for sure, and he will, im sure of it.
About Milan's situation, we need to concentrate to win in the Derby and play good football untill january. Then we simply MUST invest smart, we need just 2 smart signings to be ok again. Creative CM and a RB. Im sure we can win the scudetto. Inter plays like crap, Roma is soon gone.

A fact you cannot ignore : Gila and Oliviera partnership looks promising!
So you need to give the strikers more time before they get going. How many minutes have they played together, not even 150 minutes out of 540 playable minutes. Just keep hope and be patient. The more they play together the more successful the partnership.

Giving respsect to a guy who doesn't give respect to the player in a team. I'll give you my respect.
Even if I hate Gerrard like hell for the CL final, I still respect him as an excellent midfielder.
face it Gila is crap. He was second fiddle to Adriano in Parma and his loss in form has coincided with Adriano's as well. Look at what Inter have done t get more striking production: they have been using Crespo and Cruz: both over 30 and bost don't have as bright a future a head of them as Adriano might.
But the issue is that while it is the duty of the club to nurture its players it is more important to get results and this piece of crap aka Alberto Gilardino :ban: cannot produce. The solution? I'd play Pippo-Olivera until January. Then I'd buy a superstriker like Ronaldo and another "up-and commer" and make them all fight for a spot. Someone is bound to come out on top (I'm guessing it won't be Boriello :D ) and the goals will flow again.
From my observation Gila neds a clear cut chance to score. He cannot create and he isn't as opportunistic as a box striker should be.

Listen......Gila didn't score, but he played well. Gila will be the same player Inzaghi is. Scoring tons of goals in the box. To blame him out of all 4 forwards is really not fair. Inzaghi hasn't scored in a long time as well and Oliveira hasn't scored since his first 7 mins with this team. Why do you people always come up with criticism for Gila and not someone else. I have even read ubelievable things like Italy won because Gila wasn't on the pitch.....and Gila didn't play and we beat Anderlecht and so on and so on. It is getting a little annoying and it's starting to look like some of you people hate Gilardino and this is the great chance to bash him and criticize him even when he is not on the field. Even if he scored 2 goals today some of you were going to say that he sucks because he didn't score 3. It is unbelieavalbe.
Gila is sh!t??? He is not scoring at the moment, and he is in some sort of a bad form.....but he is sh!t. Now.....you personally hate the guy and it has nothing to do with Milan. Sell? Tell me the last time we tried to sell a player solely for making profit out of him like in the case of Zidane or Figo. We bought him because we needed a younger, fitter, faster and talented striker who could take the role of Pippo.
Keeping Gila just because we made a mistake and bought him is another mistake. Do you get what I am saying?
He has hell lot talent in him. Once he gets used to the pressure of being the premier striker of a club he will make all the anti-Gila members swallow their word. His job is not to play with Pippo but with Oliviera who is $heva's successor and more time they play together the more better they will get. Be calm, he has a lot of stuff in the store.

The day we come to the second spot in UEFA rankings due to Gilardino I will accept your criticism. Like our big members have always said don't stand in the Kitchen if you can't handle the heat. Our time will come.
Rahul...we are not going to be the team number one in Europe if we continue playing like that. Our performance this year is very bad, and the worst thing that I dont see "the light at the end of the tunnel", I dont see at the moment what can really improve our performance. We dont have an attack at all. And we are holding at the moment only because of our defence and goalkeeper - but this ll not win us any games if we dont score goals. We desperately need a scoring striker.

wrong... those who are not pro Gilardino will not be happy...
we are not the #1 team in Europe... you are very optimistic to feel that way... why? because big B says so... and therefore it is the law? or it is because of the points Uefa gave us?
the #1 team in Europe should be able to walk all over Chievo without gettin' out of 2nd gear... and did we do that? no... unless Chievo is the #2 team in Europe... far from it... they are one of the worse teams in Serie A...
as for your comments about buyin' sh*t... when did i ever say that? don't put words in my mouth... or drag your arguements with another member into my discussion with you... you are definitely gettin' personal as things gets further now & as such my discussion with you ends right here... i don't want to be dragged along some personal agenda of yours...

Untill the group stages have passed we will not have a problem in being in the first place. If things don't improve till then we will buy someone to sort the things out. Yes performance has been slow and unattractive but all we can do is wait and hope that our strikers start clicking. Regarding Serie A, Gila is doing everything he can to score but because of so much pressure on him at a young age, he is not doing the simplest of things. Also, isn't he having problems with his girl, it can also contribute to his sloppiness. Ok he is not as talented as Kaka to recover in the second season but he will start scoring sooner than later.

When the hell did I accuse you of saying that? Think and act not act and think. Read my statements and ponder on them before you start jumping! That is why I always said that Gila is not good for us. He is such type of striker who is mostly dependant on his emotions. He cannot deal with them in a right way. He is melancholic. I said it from the start. So who really needs such player, whose performance directly depends on his emotional situation. As soon as smth "melancholic" (not necesserily big trouble) happens he stops playing. After a while, when everything stabilizes and the problem is gone, he starts feeling pressure that he desperately needs to score. This pressure gives him depression again and he cannot score. It is a circle, dont you think?
Its approximately like this
problem---feeling depression---problem gone----I need to score pressure---depression---problem---....
Does it sound like a good skilled striker who ll score many goals for Milan? Definately not to me...

No matter how much respect we have for Gila, it does not help to change the fact that buying in him is our failure. I really wish that I will have to eat my words latter.

its not reli sumthing we can help. he looked like a solid investment at the time but he just hasnt worked out. I dun remember any1 disagreeing to buying him 2 years ago. We took a chance and it hasnt worked out SO FAR. chances were low that he wudnt succeed but he hasnt, weirder things have happened though, greece winnin euro, itly winnin the cup, porto winning cl, our loss to liverpool. no investment is risk free.
I am proudly ANTI-GILA, :guw:
I've never wanted him since he was in Parma. And sadly he's bringin my suspicions to life!
Since he first came you could tell that even the Milan players knew he "rhymed with spit" (can't swear here apparently :D ) Look at the games closely, Sheva, Kaka even Seedorf thought twice before slipping the ball to him. Now hseva is gone, his supply is cut somewhat. Pippo is sure as hell not going to passs (to anyone ever :D ) so I think he needs to go :fright:
Soon we are going to need goals desperately and the hesitation on the part of our teamates is going to be our undoing. $heva never worried about passing to Inzaghi, neither does kaka. But ask yourself "why do they hesitate with Gila?"
GILARDINO IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bravo Jim! Three words and much depth to it. It says a lot about you and deserves commendation.
For those who want to claim being "anti Gila"... for what reason do you want this? I wasnt too thrilled when we bought him but since then I will be pro-Alberto Gilardino as long as he wears the Red and Black. He will score for us and perhaps at a time when we desperately need it. I have the faith in our club to bring him full circle. You nattering nabobs of negativism need to stop these useless and vitriolic attacks on anyone of our players... staff included.
The life cycle of Milan through the good times and bad, succeses and adversity is not a product! It is a LIVING PROCESS that is not a RIGHT but a PRIVILEDGE which us fans need to come to appreciate.
Good job TEAM MILAN! I know more is to come.

I wasn't sure if this post was better suited here or the Gila thread itself, so I posted it in both ;)
I'm getting pretty tired of all the anti-Gila statements here. Quite frankly, first and foremost, the guy doesn't deserve to hung over yesterday's performance, he did well, often contributing to the attacking build up. Yes, he missed a stunning opportunity, but considering how much pressure has been placed on him and the obvious lack of confidence he has, I don't really blame him. Borriello also missed chances about as easy, but I never saw any real complaints about him.
Fact is, Gila has a goalscoring record that not many have matched, and is young and contributes a lot to the team play, considering his position. In fact, from the statistics I've seen, he had the greatest number of assists last season of anyone (I think inlcuding penalties won).
Also, let's take a look at his record domestically, as in the last few seasons where he has established himself as a capable striker, he has a goalscoring record of just under a goal a game (his average throughout is career is roughly 1 every 2 games). So lets compare that to Pippo, who's a proven goalscorer, who throughout his career has managed goals on average something like a goal every 2-3 games domestically.
In Europe so far Gila hasn't managed to score, but bear in mind that last season was his first proper debut of playing outside of Italy. Pippo in this field does have a better record, as he started performing in Europe immediately. When you factor in Europe then Both Gila and Pippo have around an average of about 1 goal in every 2 games. To be precise, Pippo actually has a slightly better average, but the fact is we're talking about Gila who is pretty much matching a player who is argubly the greatest goalscorer of his generation. When you consider how much Gila provides for the team compared to Pippo, his overall contribution is actually greater than Pippo's.
Finally, Gila in the last 3 seasons has scored over 20 goals twice and 17 in Serie A last year. Pippo on the other hand, in Serie A, has only ever scored 20+ goals once in his career, and has only ever manged 17+ goals 3 times in his career.
Now this season, from day 1 in Serie A (I won't count CL qualifiers as Gila wasn't really available), Gila has scored 0 goals, Pippo has scored 2 (1 Serie A and 1 CL), Oliveira has scored 1 and Borriello has scored 0. Fact is, Gila isn't the only one underperforming for us when it comes to strikers scoring. However, for inexplicable reasons, he has the greatest criticisms against him.
There's one aspect about Gila which I have noticed is necessary for him to play at his best, and that is he must be the focal point of the attack, the target man so to speak. Since he joined, Shevchenko was the previous focal point (though due to his versatility though Gila had room to make a mark) and now Pippo is the focal point, which means Gila has to try and play more for others, a role that isn't really his natural position.
Quite frankly, at Parma before he was able to make his mark, I wrote off Gila. Not only did he make me eat my words, he has gained my support as he has proven himself to be a very good player who has a lot to offer. His statistics are almost matching up to Pippo's and in many ways, he has a lot more to offer than Pippo, who is undoubtably one of the best forwards of his generation, and argubly the best pure goalscorer of his generation.
So, Gila obviously has a good enough record to warrant a starting place. His performances haven't been great, but there are numerous reasons for that (playing unnatural roles for him and a clear lack of confidence, something ALL strikers go through at some point are just 2 examples). Maybe he should be dropped, but for who? It's not like any of our other strikers are doing particularly better, and personally I feel more confident that once Gila gets a goal, he will continue to really start shining than any other striker.
Bravo DEV! Shared sentiments as well! No one. NO ONE who plays for us deserves the venom some here have spat.
Juve menagment allowed me to start talks about buying Gila :)
20 M Euro is the offer !
Juventus must have learned from one "mistake" ( i put the "" sign because from Juve's perspective it wasn't such big mistake, but that move did help Juve's rivals).
Juve bought one player who was a topscorer in the league with some small club (just like Gila with Parma).
In his first season he scored 18 goals in the league (almost the same as Gila with Milan). He used to score a lot in his next 2 seasons, not as much as his first season tho, but then it came a 13 matches non-scoring streak for him at the begining of one season.
Carlo Ancelotti was Juve's coach back then and he benched him, giving chance to young promising David Trezeguet and sometimes he even prefered Thierry Henry in front of the guy we're talking about.
Then this guy scored 7 goals till the end of the season, but Juventus' menagement decided they should give more chances to David Trezeguet and sell this guy who obviously didn't score as much as he was expected to.
We sold him to our rivals. I, or any other Juve fan didn't regret this decission because we got Trezeguet who became one of the best scorers in our history, but we still think that if we didn't sell the guy to our rivals, we maybe would have won the 2003 Champions league.
Oh, and the guy was scoring and scoring and scoring for our rivals.
Any idea who was he ? :)
20 M is the offer ( no Juve players involved)

Wouldn't be the player I've compared to Gila throughout most of my post now would it? ;)
Thanks Kui :)
Anytime Dev. You know it is through tough times that shows the measure of any of us as fans. Hard to measure a fan when only success is the result.
Have all of you guys gone completely Gila-mad? The guy is CRAP! While at Parma he wa Adriano's sub. His record tallies at Parma were also due to the fact that he took their Penalty kicks as well. He isn't that good, and that's the plain fact.
The guy has not scored A SINGLE GOAL FOR US IN EUROPE!!! NOT EVEN AGAINST MINNOWS NOT EVEN IN DRUBBINGS/ BLOWOUTS!!!
Does anyone thing that the coach at PArma was crazy for putting a younger less experienced Adriano ahead of him? NO! Adriano was miles ahead of Gila and he isn't even that great!
Please be a fan of the team and not a fanatic of one individual and se that Gila is HURTING US!!! He is not dependable. In the OLD DAYS, if Sheva wasn't scoring we had Pippo. If he wasn't scoring we had Jon Dhal Tomasson. Now if Pippo isn't scoring or Ollie isn't scoring we have NO ONE!
I rue the day he played so well against us when at Parma because that was all the 'evidence' our mamagement seemed to need to buy him
Wouldn't be the player I've compared to Gila throughout most of my post now would it? ;)
Loool, i wrote my post at the same time you finished yours, but yes, we were both comparing Gila with the good old Filippo Inzaghi.
To be honest, the risk of Gila not performing well for Milan, ever again, still remains. There are a lot of examples about players being top class for one and average for other teams ( Henry in Arsenal/Juve , Rivaldo in Barcelona/Milan , Mendieta in Valencia/Lazio, Sheva in Milan/Chelsea, Pirlo who was playing good football for a small team, pathetic in Inter and briliant in Milan etc etc etc).
But when Gila is concerned ( ok, he's one of my favourite young players and i may not be totally objective), i doubt he won't get back to his class displays in a short time.
I'm well into my 30's ( still feel like a 25 years old tho :)) and i always had a passion in following youngsters and u-19, u-21 championships.
What Gila was doing 3 years ago on European u-21 championship, and how dominant he was against everybody else....wow. The only 2 examples of such dominance i can think of are Davor Suker for Yugoslavia in 1987 and Messi for Argentina last year.
Not even Pirlo, Raul or Figo had such impact on their u-21 teams or were so dominant.
So, if Gila was by far the best player of his generation in Europe ( and the world i'll dare saying) only 3 years ago, and now he suddenly he performs below his level, then the problem must be in his head, and it can be solved.
It's an insult to say he's not a Milan material, he's weak or stuff.
Just some more patience and he'll prove his class again. Ok, i understand club like Milan can not risk and in current situation there's not much time left for waiting.
But be sure that selling Gila won't do any good to Milan, but it certanly will do much good to someone else.
Henry and Pirlo are examples par exellence. You're not seriously thinking of adding Gila's name on this list, do you ?
Bravo Jim! Three words and much depth to it. It says a lot about you and deserves commendation.
What exactly does it say about me Kui?
I suppose Ronaldo is the answer drucurl?
I was swamped at work yesterday (Wednesday is an order scheduled day and a car drove through the front door of our business, causing over $50,000 in damage), so I forgot to check the score last afternoon. It took me almost five pages of track-backs to find out we'd won. But, I sure knew right away that some people find a guy who's having a rough patch of form is the worst player to ever lace on a pair of boots in the entire continent of Europe. Good prioritization people. Jesus...

Why do you compare Gila to Boriello. This comparison doesnt have any ground, same as comparison between Gila and Oliveira. Boriello and RO didnt immidiately get the place in the starting line up, unlike Gilardino. They had only several games to prove themselves, considering that they almost never play the full game or from the start of it. Yes Boriello misssed many opportunities...nobody here says that he ve done really well, but Boriello havent got any chances to play, what do you expect from him. He is a bench man.
Fact is, Gila has a goalscoring record that not many have matched, and is young and contributes a lot to the team play, considering his position. In fact, from the statistics I've seen, he had the greatest number of assists last season of anyone (I think inlcuding penalties won).
Oh yeah? He contributes by loosing the ball, wasting 100 percent goal opportunities and not scoring goals at all? Do you mean this contribution? Stop mentioning THE PRESSURE...Its ****! (I m not going to sware, but everyone understands what I mean). About his assist statistics for the last season....he had 2 assists for the whole previous year. Is it considered the greatest number of assists?
Also, let's take a look at his record domestically, as in the last few seasons where he has established himself as a capable striker, he has a goalscoring record of just under a goal a game (his average throughout is career is roughly 1 every 2 games). So lets compare that to Pippo, who's a proven goalscorer, who throughout his career has managed goals on average something like a goal every 2-3 games domestically.
Gila played for Hellas Verona for 2 seasons and scored only 5 goals, then he moved to Parma where he scored 5 goals in the first season and another 50 in the second and third. After that he moved to Milan....I dont really see brilliant statistics...Two lucky seasons. Yes, it is called luck, and nothing else. The second season was lucky and third he scored many goals only because of being UP...being not moody. Maybe he should have stayed in Parma...he is not MIlan quality player.
In CL Gila cannot score, in Seria A Gila is not scoring for a long long long period...So yes, of course, he is a brilliant striker! Just THE ONE we need. Gila is just a dream of every team...
About the target man...yes Sheva left, but even playing with Sheva Gila didnt score in the second half of the season. Now there is Kaka...so there is help for Gila. Dont try to say that noone helps him, noone passes on him...Its not everybody's fault that Gila is not scoring - it is Gila's fault.
STOP constantly mentioning PRESSURE, POOR SERVICE etc....This is not the problem. What is Kaka supposed to do (or Pirlo, Oliveira, Inzaghi, Seedorf, Kaladze....)? Push Gilardino with the ball to the net, so he d finally score?

That is very well said...but I am afraid people are so fanatic about Gilardino here, that they ll not see this..You can write and rephrase..They do not want to see it, they prefer to wear "Pink Glasses" and this that life is "Pink"...
How can you say it was 2 lucky seasons? I suppose his first season in Milan was lucky also?
Oh look, the ball hit my foot and went in the net for the 24th time in 38 games, that was lucky. Oops, how lucky am i, i scored 4 times in one match ... twice ... i must have swallowed a 4 leaf clover in my salad at lunch! Haha ... how about this, i've scored 24 times in 38 games ... again! Man i must have a rabbit's foot up my backside.
Luck, yes of course :rollani:
You should read Tony's post about Gilardino in the Italian Under 21's and then you might get why we're not giving up on him as easily as some do.
You talk about him having a poor scoring record for 2 seasons in Verona and his first season at Parma, well with a bit of maths you can work out he was quite young at the time! What is he, 24 now? So a year ago when we bought him he must have been 23, 3 seasons ago he was 20 and 2 seasons ago he was 18. So between the ages of 18 and 21, he scored 7 goals for Verona & Parma, i can't say i'm overly surprised about that.
Was he constantly first choice at those times? I'd be surprised if Verona had an 18 year old striker as first choice. But if he was first choice, i don't think he can be the poor player people are making out. You can't be that bad a player if you're first choice at 18.

Listen, first of all in 96 appearences for Parma - 50 goals, its 1 goal in 2 games.
Secondly, about luck...I call it luck, because for the second season in Parma he was lucky to score 23 goals. Having, for the first time in his life, scored so many goals his emotional condition went very much up. And being there at the top of that good emotional condition he had another good season. By the time of his transfer to AC Milan he felt himself as a God, and he thought that it s going to be easy to continue scoring like that. Yes he scored 17 goals for Milan in 32 appearences...but then for half of the season he just lost smth...he lost that emotional condition (that the only one condition that makes him scores). Now he is in his melancholic days. He is not going to produce anything. And, believe me...he ll be like that till the end of his career: feeling up - scoring...and then for a long time 0 goals....then if the club is lucky..feeling up again and scoring...then down again. He is such person. Milan needs someone consistant, like Sheva was.
Then you say Gila is young...Kaka is only 24 now, C. Ronaldo - 21, Arshvin - 24 (scoring for many seasons already), and many other examples of young players who scored in their first season, and continue scoring now.
What has your first point to do with anything?
How can you be lucky to score 23 times? Once, twice maybe ... 10 times at a push, but 23 times come on :delol:
You know nothing about Gilardino except what you see on tv and you think you have his whole life planned? You may know psychology to an extent but you don't know the player well enough to have some sort of accurate analysis of him.
You're missing the point about Gilardino's age. How many clubs in a demanding league put an 18 year old striker in as first choice? Hardly any, unless they're exceptional as the weight of responsibility is huge on established strikers, let alone teenagers. There's a difference in midfielders as the responsibility on them is not so great, which is why young wingers, playmakers occur more in teams than young strikers.
You mention 3 players and argue they've been scoring for many seasons (even though 2 of them are midfielders) and you've also said that Gilardino has been scoring since his Verona days ... so haven't you just countered your own argument?

There's a difference in midfielders as the responsibility on them is not so great, which is why young wingers, playmakers occur more in teams than young strikers.
You mention 3 players and argue they've been scoring for many seasons (even though 2 of them are midfielders) and you've also said that Gilardino has been scoring since his Verona days ... so haven't you just countered your own argument?
I dont know Gilardino..that is correct. But I can see how he behaves in the games, his mimics, his interviews...Yes maybe its not that a lot of info...but its enough to get a general understanding of his personality. And dont get me wrong, I m not saying that whatever I say here is SO, and that you all have to agree with that. My opinion is subjective, of course.
At a push a striker can score 23 goals...this artistic type is like that. Gila should have been a pianist or a painter. Seems to me he is like them...
You didnt understand what I was saying about young players...(yes some of them are attacking midfilders...but it doesnt matter, they score goals). I was saying that there are many young players who started by scoring many goals and good performance and keep this (more or less) level by now, or even become much better. I was talking about consistency. Of course every player can have his down period...but not as long as Gila has. Even completely demoralized goalkeeper (Malafeev) after losing with Russian National team against Portugal 7:1, when everybody (like the whole country) were shouting that it was all his fault and that he doesnt deserve to be a goalkeeper and that he doesnt have any skills whatsoever, still recovered much quicker than Gila and showing great performance again.
Do you get my point now? Pressure and young age for good strikers (and other football players) should be oppositely for the best..it should motivate them to perform better. With Gila that is not the case.

How can you be lucky to score 23 times? Once, twice maybe ... 10 times at a push, but 23 times come on
Ever heard about a player nemed Kevin Phillips? He did exactly the same thing. So did James Beattie. So Do many players in serieA and La Liga. It happens
You know nothing about Gilardino except what you see on tv and you think you have his whole life planned? You may know psychology to an extent but you don't know the player well enough to have some sort of accurate analysis of him.
And I suppose you do? I can only judge what I see/ don't see and what I don't see are goals. What I do see is a pathetic player who can't even help in the attacks properly

OH! I have some back up here :5nana: .
i was hoping my first post in what looks like an awsome forum would not be about Gila, but i cant help myself...
since mid season last year, when the red flags started going up about gila being a bust...i have watched his play much more closely... looking for "the little things" he's doing off the ball, or the "attention" that he was drawing, freeing up other players and its all bunk.
the next time he plays, watch his first touch, watch the runs he makes off the ball, watch his passes...they arent that good. he likes to run straight ahead and stand on the 6, right in front of the goal? Some games its like he's not even on the field! ok hes a box striker, thats the penalty box, not the goal box! also he never seems to be in the right place for a cross or a through ball. watch pippo, i still dont know he does it, but that little bastard, always seems to be at the right place at the right time...simply amazing. That awareness is what makes a good "box" striker imho.
i am NOT saying give up on this kid, however, he doesnt seem to a world-class striker (yet?) As far as his pysche or the pressure...thats all BS, he is a professional, getting paid handsomely to perform.
am i wrong to expect a striker to score? thats what milan brought him in for...to score goals!!! thats like telling dida its ok to let in goals or the milk man to stop having sex with my wife...
but there is plenty of critism to go around, however, i not a pessimst and promise more positive posts than negative

i went on readin' after my post & discoverd some lack of consistency...
when Gilardino doesn't score... he has no luck... he is unlucky... blah blah blah jibba-jabba... but when he scores... he is a hero... he is great... he is like a god... oh dear... is this the standard to judge Gilardino by? talk about bein' unfair...
