.......................

My prediction for the game would be a close game - lots of battle in midfield (milan's with Gattuso and AMbro is by no means weaker or less physical than Pool's) so the defenses will "mop up" whatever manages to squeeze thru the mids.
Kaka will not have the luxury of space in this game - like he did vs ManU - but will manage to dictate things in tight spaces using his much improved team-play in his new role and will leave his mark on the game by moving around and creating space and chances for his teammates.

It will be a game of few real opportunities but I think in the end Milan's creativity in midfield thru Seedorf, Pirlo and Kaka will open the score in the start of the 2nd half ... the result will be doubled toward sthe end of the game when Pool will be rushing forward and will fall victim to the speed of Kaka and Serginho.

All in all, it will be a classical, tactical game with no surprises or turnarounds like the last time the two teams met.
Guys, remember where you heard it first ;) ... bar the goal by Kuyt (the same one who can't finish to save his life  ), I'd say it was a pretty good take on how the game will go, don't you think? :D

CONGRATS to all Milan fans anywhere around the globe. It wasn't a vintage Milan performance but still - The CL is back home and all happened in a season like this one :5ok:

It's 7 now .... FORZA MILAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:3band: :3band: :3band: :3band:

I have to say all respect goes to Liverpool, who are DESERVEDLY in the CL final and if they had won this game, it would NOT have been undeserved.
BRAVO Liverpool, you guys played like men and fought till the last minute :5ok:

The critics first - I have to say that is the worst (read most nervous) Milan side I have seen since Carlo is at the helm and we've come back among the best teams in Europe. What makes the surprise even bigger is that this team, under Carlo, have become synonymous with playing their best when it matters most ... today, however, that was not the case.
True, Pool pushed us a lot but still Milan has played before, many times, under such pressure and we've managed more than fine. Tonight, however, we were close to atrocious for large spells of the 1st half and made childish mistakes .... the only explanation for me is that we had burned out in the preparation for this game.

Still, the game was decided by the individual genious of players like Pirlo, Kaka, Pippo (how do get rid of a striker who scores 2 goals in the CL final :sweeteye: ) and the team also started playing better and managed to take control of the game when it matters most.

Glaring tactical mistake by benitez when he took out Mascherano. With him, Alonso and Gerrard in the mid, Pool were able to stop Milan fom taking control of midifield but with him out, Pool couldn't create any meaningful chances apart from the occasional long ball or corner. A better move IMO would have been taking a defender off (Finnan maybe) given that Pool had to make up 2 goals (I think) and were running out of time ... and Milan were also set on sitting back and defending ....

HUGE mistake by Benitez, IMO.

For me Nesta was the man of the match, altough Liverpool didn't make life to difficult for us. Off course super Pipo was also his fantastic self. We didn't play very well today, but it wasn't necessary.

after watching the replay, I guess you are right but it was a close call as seedorf was coming back from the goal line and was covering or almost covering Kuyt ... but techincally, it was offside, I think.

Who would have thought a Juve legend like Inzaghi would be immortalized as a Rossoneri forever with this thrilling win. Not only was he heroic in 2003, but he has single handedly grabbed the title out of Liverpool's grasp, gained revenge for the Istanbul disaster and brought glory to the Serie A again.

Mancini, Viera and all those English media naysayers can stuff it now :)

true, Pool played better tonight but then again, deservedly or undeservedly is a matter of who manages to win the game and not who had more possession or who managed to string better passes until reaching the PA but then failing to do anything more than missing your good chances.
let's put it this way - if Milan didn't deserve to win the final, they would have scored 1 goal more than Pool ;)

So , like any other nights when Milan win the CL trophey , this is one of the best days of my life so far, my beloved team make me the happyest man , i was in tension all day , and now i'm dizzy, my head hurts like hell, but it feels so gooooooooooooood.
I felt tears when i see Maldini and carlo hughed eachother, they were toghether back in '89 against steaua in barcelona [ Maldini is imortal imo];ok i can't concentrate myself anylonger, i love you all MILAN fans,i feel sory for pool fans, but it hurt like hell in '05, this is life,GOD is above us [chelsea miss the CL Cup again, inter looks like a joke even when they win scudeto, juve in B, barca just a soap baloon, and the premier league , suposed to be the best championship in the world was trashed by our commando team];again : love u all, rossonero 4 life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Technically niether team looked in full command at any time. After strolling to a lead at the end o first half we weren't forced to push forward more in the second and allow much spaces. In such type of matches an odd goal could be well enough. Apart from Gerrard's chance from a mistake by Gattusso Liverpool never had a true chance. Milan with a typical Italian mentality waited for the chance to come, punish and finish the opponents off.

Well done on number 7.

At such a high level, it's the small details that make all the difference. And despite us bossing the first half (I did warn you beforehand about how good Pennant can be), that late goal one minute before the break, turned the match.

I thought we had enough chances. But it was not to be.

Congratulations. Have a great night and don't get too drunk. I'll raise my tin of Guinness here to your good health.

Milan had convingly beaten Celtic, Bayern and Man U on their way to the final. As I mentioned, Liverpool had done a good job stifling Milan's game plan but did Liverpool have that many more shots at goal? Look at the stats here

http://www.uefa.com/competitions/ucl/fixturesresults/round=2361/match=300099/report=st.html

Milan had 3 shots at goal and Liverpool 4. Big difference eh?
Fouls comitted - 27 fouls by Liverpool. Ball possession - Milan had more possession. And the most important stat - Milan 2 goals. Liverpool 1.

The stats speak for themselves. But sour grapes are expected.

Congratulations Milan.

Thanks man. You have been a very polite visitor. Now if only your magnanimity could rub off on some of the Man U posters who ventured here.

Yeah, I did actually.
I kind of doubt that.

Anyways, no need to be a sore loser ... people like rome are a good example of how a defeat, no matter how bitter it is, can be taken with class ;)

Again, congrats to an excellent Liverpool team and those who say they reached the final due to luck, don't know what they are talking about.

3) Congratulations to the players for riding above the commentary from the unfriendly media, the difficulties of overcoming Moggipoli and all the words of unkindness we have had to endure from those morons at Inter.

4) Congratulations to Ancelotti - he has stuffed a sock into every one of his critics frothy mouths. Not only is he one of the greatest tacticians in the world but he has proved that his rapport with his players and the fans is untouchable. Next season with Ronaldo under his wing, watch Milan destroy under his command.

The first half was all Liverpool. Benitez had his tactics exactly right, and his players were executing his plan well. Pennant was huge on the right and the center mids pressing hard on Pirlo and Kaka. I thought it was only a matter of time getting the opening goal with Pennant getting all that space and Janku really struggling. But then Alonso made that one mistake, and Liverpool paid for it.

Kopite you can say your team was better on the day, blah, blah, blah...and your team created more chances, blah, blah, blah...and you know what, maybe you're right. But sir this is not the first time and certainly not the last time you'll see a football game turn out this way. So shave and go home.

To those Milan fans out there who really, really believed, especially :star: Warro :star: and :star: Rick :star:, guys who I sparred with last summer, my most sincere apologies. I wasn't a believer at all going into the season, for good reason. And I was right during the early going, Milan were struggling mightily. But then January came, Ronaldo came in and charged up the side, Carletto tweaked his lineup and well, who woulda thunk it? :p283:

Just wanted to say sorry everyone. I'm extremely happy here eating some crow.

I couldn't wait till August. I can toot my own horn just like most of you believed. If we lost this game....there is no God. Grande Milan, the most consistent side in Europe for the last 4 years.
We did enough to win and that is all that matters. Benitez crying about extra time, were you crying when Mejuto Gonzalez ruled out Sheva's perfectly legit goal 2 years ago?
To the players, bravissimo. A special shout out to Ambrosini, what a performance and Inzaghi, what a player. To Maldini, you deserve it . Grande Milan, Grande Milan. Madrid we are right behind you.
To the future, Sheva stay where you are, we don't need you. I heard Kirsten wants to move back to Milan. Kaka speaks English way better than you, may be he is more motivated to learn English in Milan. Sorry Sheva, you made the wrong decision.

http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/may23m.html

Andriy Shevchenko’s agent may say he has no intention of returning to Milan, but a more important figure says otherwise – wife Kristen Pazik.

The American model was widely believed to be the reason why he moved to Chelsea last summer, as she wanted to be in an English-speaking city to raise their children.

“We feel at home in Italy and I think Andriy would build a great partnership with Ronaldo, who is one of my favourite players,” she told ‘Chi’ magazine.

“My husband is my other half and it is important for me that he is happy. He has to play where it is best for him.

“In my country they say home is where the heart is – and Italy is a home for us, far more so than London.”

One of the reasons given for Shevchenko’s failure to settle at Stamford Bridge has been his trouble with the different language and culture after seven years in Milan.

The Ukrainian hitman has flown out to Athens for tonight’s Final as a guest of his former club, cheering them on as they meet Liverpool.

“I will be following the game with the desire for revenge after that defeat two years ago I still cannot explain,” said Mr Shevchenko.

“I still support Milan for my teammates, the club, the President and for myself. I think that Milan need to avenge all of us who played in Istanbul.”

Ancelotti said he may leave: http://www.milanmania.com/forums/showthread.php?p=433946#post433946

Carlo Ancelotti believes it was in Milan’s destiny to win the Champions League at the end of “what could have been my last season.”

The Rossoneri outplayed Liverpool and lost in Istanbul, but despite a less crushing display came out 2-1 winners this time around.

“The quality of our football was certainly much better two years ago, but this is football. Our opponents were tough and very tight, so it was difficult for us to play,” said the Coach.

“This trophy was in our destiny considering everything that happened to us in Istanbul and this season. We didn’t so much deserve it for what we did tonight as all we had to go through to get here.”

They were originally excluded from the competition due to the Calciopoli trial, but won an appeal to go through the preliminary round with just two weeks to prepare.

“The greatest satisfaction is having won the Champions League in what could have been my last season here,” confessed Ancelotti, who has often been under fire.

“Up until November it wasn’t looking good for me, but we turned things around. I have a special feeling with this club and only here could I have achieved so much in five years.

“In the moments of difficulty we always had great synchronicity between the club, Coach and players. The real difference came in the mid-season training camp in Malta during the Winter break. For a long time we were without injured players like Pippo Inzaghi, Kakha Kaladze, Paolo Maldini, Serginho and Alessandro Nesta.

“We have a special feeling with this competition and also saw it as our best chance of winning some silverware this season.”

Milan were forced to start Serie A with an eight-point penalty, but in recent months have stepped up a few gears and finished in the top four.

Inzaghi was the hero in Athens after bagging a brace, taking his career tally to 42 goals in 69 Champions League appearances.

“In Istanbul Inzaghi was not even on the bench, as he had an injury. I think he was not at 100 per cent today either, but he feels and experiences these games more than anyone else. I lost count of how many times he needed the toilet before kick-off!”

The opener was a lucky deflection off Andrea Pirlo’s free kick, while he sprung the offside trap for the second.

“Liverpool do not attack very much and try to take advantage of deadball situations. When Peter Crouch came on they started to put the ball long, but Inzaghi’s goal opened the game up,” added Ancelotti.

“Inzaghi has scored many goals that can be considered fortunate, but the truth is he always brings something to them. His frenetic approach, his sense of positioning and eye for goal mean he always finds himself in the right place.”

what he said in Italian is that the satisfaction of winning the CL is even bigger in a season as difficult as this one, which could have been his last.

I think what he meant is that there was a chance his contract wouldn't have been prolonged and he would have had to leave if the season hadn't changed for the better after January (with Milan in midtable in serie A and out of the CL).
not necessarily that he is considering leaving now.

FORZAAAAAAAAA MILAAAAN ! Finally we got our revenge over the reds after Istanbul !!!
It was not really an entertaining game, but i think that's quite normal for a final. Especially because both teams had in their mind what happened two years earlier.
Milan had difficulties with the pressing of Liverpool in 1st half (Pirlo for example lost the ball quite often) but it was sure that L'pool couldn't hold that pace for more than an hour. And when Pippo scored a lucky goal (or was it on purpose, it could be, because it's Pippo u know ;) ) it was Liverpool's turn to attack. And they can't attack, we saw that in 2nd half. Only Gerrard got one chance, but that's it. Milan never really had problems in 2nd half, although my heart was shaking again after Kuyt's goal.
But anyway, incredibile !!! And Pippo proved again that he's not really a good football player, but a very gifted goal scorer !

Hello all, I actually just joined this forum, but I hope no one thinks I'm one of those glory hunters. I've actually been reading the forum for a few years now, but didn't think I could add much to all the comments and insights provided by all the other guys around.

I actually started supporting the team the year after their last Champions League Trophy in Manchester, so I kinda went through the ups and down like you other fans out there. Truth be told, after tonight, I just don't think I could hold back on my emotions anymore.... so I joined you're site. :D

I'm still a bit lost for words right now, but I just wanted to recommend a site to all for some clips of the goals, and of the past matches.

Does anyone know what's the writing on Kaka's shirt when they celebrated on the pitch after the game?
I only read "I belong to ...." ??
I have seen himwear before "I belong to Jesus" so I'd think it was this same one.

I'm a bit late to the party I see....I only finished watching the game 45 mins ago.

First and formost, a thank you to Liverpool FC and their hearty supporters.

You win some, you lose some. The two year-long wound will finally begin to heal. Wether or not we played the game of ourlives, it doesn't matter because this one's special for it's very unique reasons. Thank you Rossonero for this journey, thank you Ancellotz and thank you tifosi, wether in the stands tonight or on this forum.

I'm waiting for the tears to go away and the euphoria to hit. Our ragazzi in their maglia fortuna, lifting the coppa in the air as rightful champions. It's not the cup itself, but the tears of Sandro and Pippo, the smiles of Capitano, Rino, Pirlo, Kaka and Seedorf etc. Seeing thier faces after the whistle blew, that was most beautiful. :proud:

By the way Liverpool's goal was a definite offside and shouldn't have stood. We spent very nervy minutes at the end but our champions held on to our lead.

That is what i wrote few pages back. Clear offside with the scorer being in an active offside position during the first header which got deflected.

BTW, Pippo claims that he practiced the free-kick interference like that. I believe him, look at the video)

i think it's a little bit of the joy of having buried istanbul coming out. :)

Before I leave again till the next Milan Champions League game...my parting words:

1) Congratulations to everyone on this forum who believed from Day 1.

2) Congratulations to everyone who cried having go through the Istanbul tragedy - for having buried that day forever under the confetti of glory.

Next season with Ronaldo under his wing, watch Milan destroy under his command.

and to all the trolls on this forum from Bayern, Liverpool and Man U :devf:

and to all the classy fans from the above teams - all the best in your own leagues. Europe is ours ;)

Well said, i cannot really add to this.

What a feeling, cannot explain it, i really felt like it was bring back memories of 05 and this was just finishing off the match that we should of in 05, but hope all Milan fans are really pleased with all the Milan players.

and Liverpool thanks for the memories, it was a splendid journey that is now finished, to feel happiness (07) and sadness (05), its complete.

enjoy it people, it does not get better then this.

Sure, Best of 3 would be ideal for ACM to prove their superiority :bri:

If u r bitter abt the 1st goal then how abt the
-Disallowed goal of $hevchenko in CL final 2005, when he was clearly not offside :wallbang:
-Smiceir's goal, which on its way to the goal, touched Milan Baros who was in the off side position :wallbang:

The truth is ACM deserved to win on both ocasions but that didn't happen, ok dats football :) But at the moment we are the happier fans ;)
But we appretiate u on congradulation ACM. Well done 2 u as well for this :5ok:

I liked the part after the game when the Liverpool players were going to collect their medals and the Milan players stood around and gave the player a round of applause... in which the Reds acknowledged and shook the Milan players in turn as they went up the stairs....

Shows a great mutual respect between the two set of teams/players despite all the pre-match media trash thats been said...

We Liverpool were not clinical at on the day, we did not take advantage of the chances we had...
On the other hand, Milan had their two chances which they very well made use of and they scored... Finishing in front of goal was the difference yesterday..

I think that was more of a joke than something serious - no one in his right state of mind would think that Milan would let go of the best player in the world, who just turned 25, to get a 31 yo ex-best player, who may very well not be a welcoming sight for many of the fans and even some of the players at the San Siro.

I did not see anything about that...All the english newspapers and russian ones say that Chelsea want 12 mil pounds and Kaladze for Sheva. Of course Chelsea understand that we will not give Kaka for Sheva, and that Kaka simply will not join Chelsea himself...

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/09052007/4/sheva-return-milan-galliani.html
Here Galliani says that we actually now have a place for Sheva, as Kaka became a member of EU.

Then Abramobitch could keep Sheva forever !!!
Is he insane by asking this unbelievable swap??
Or he maybe think that Berlusconi go bankcrupt so Berlu would accept his request on Kaka??

I would prefer Eto'o than having Sheva back to Milan. Plus a defender besides Zambrotta.
Pato would be a good investment for the future.

Can't wait who will be coming to join Milan in this summer.

Actually bouncing back from our shocking start to the season to win the most prestigious trophy of all is incredible and it shows how much tradition and greatness the rossoneri hold. Milan are always capable of reaching the top while going through difficulties. Our squad might not be the best and the side clearly needs strengthening, however, we were still able to lift the trophy. Watching our living legend Paolo Maldini lift the trophy two years after all thought he has played his last final was unbelievable. Now it's time to bring back the Scudetto next season.

Well, finally got a few mins to write some thoughts on the match (just about calm enough now ;) ).

Firstly, credit to Liverpool for a very hard fought match. I didn't like some aspects of their play, but it was up to us to do what we have to. I want to especially pay respect to Benitez and Carragher, as they acted with great class after the match and really were a source of pride for 'Pool.

For the match, it was pretty similar to what I expected. Overall, Benitez set things up well. They played a tough midfield pair in the centre to halt Kaka and Seedorf. Two widemen were there to attempt to attack our fullbacks (a weakness in our side) and Gerrard further up, most importantly pressing Rino, Pirlo and Ambro as well as supporting Kuyt. What I didn't like was Liverpool were fouling far too much (27 fouls in 1 match), and got far too much leniancy in that respect (Alonso I can't believe didn't get booked). This effectively killed the flow of the match really getting going, and stopped us from actually being able to go forward with any continuity.

Our tactical setup for me was a bit of a surprise. I think Benitez can't have expected us to have been as slow as we were at the start, especially as most probably expected us to try and go all out. Instead, we did get pushed back, but also played the classic Italian style, giving no quarters and being opportunistic. This was a VERY smart move, as Liverpool never created more than half chances for all the dominance (I felt we had control of the game, even if not dominating). As the game wore on, we got through it with more ease as playing the way we did, the heat and humidity didn't affect us as much as Liverpool who were clearly fatigued during the second half. At the end, only Gerrard's chance was a clear cut chance they created in the match.

The first half was a nervy affair, neither side commiting too much though Liverpool pushing harder. However all that dominance came to very little, and our defence held tight on the whole with only a couple of half chances given.

The second half we got much more into the match, physically looking sharper and passing the ball with more ease, and thus controlling the game. We probably could have done better on the counter at times, but overall we were solid. Mascherano going off was a big factor for Kaka, as soon after he setup Pippo's second.

The referee had a tough match, trying at times to let the game flow but other times calling for fouls a little easily. It was very strange and then of course there were a couple of strange decisions, the most glaring to Milan fans being Kaka's offside.

The goals weren't the best, but a couple of interesting things to note. Pippo's goal seems extremely lucky at first, but then second thought makes me wonder. We have seen Pippo do this at least once or twice in the past with Pirlo (Pippo himself has given Empoli as an example). Also, looking at how Pirlo hits the ball and the direction, it seems a very odd decision for a freekick in that position. Of course, the way it hits Pippo and goes in is about luck, but I do wonder what the intent of the freekick was. The second Pippo goal was typical SuperPippo, right place, right time, break offside and Kaka threads through. Kuyt's goal was when Liverpool were desperate, but was actually offside.

Players...

Dida - Solid, great with Gerrard's chance.
Janku - Poor on the whole, seemed overwhelmed.
Oddo - Very solid on the whole, not bad though all crosses went to Reina
Nesta - Sandro Magno for sure
Maldini - a few minor mistakes, but looked assured on the whole
Rino - Not his best, but important dirty work was done
Ambro - Similar to Rino, his presence was important
Pirlo - nothing spectacular, but is involved in all good moves
Seedorf - Not as good as compared to other recent games
Kaka - Not his best, but he was key to both goals, says it all.
Pippo - SuperPippo!!!!

The subs were smart by Carlo, Kala's heading ability was useful against Crouch, Favalli wasted time and Gila held the ball well, causing the Liverpool defence trouble.

Carlo deserves credit for what he's achieved. He has been instrumental to our turnaround this season

only disagree with a couple of things 1983

Kuyt was played onside when the ball went off Maldini's head

Pennant & Gerrard had very clear chances - they just finished (or didn't) weakly. Had either of them put any more on their shot, any comments about handling our attacks would have gone straight out the window and been replaced with 'it was only a matter of time as Liverpool kept pressing'. I'll agree the others were only half chances but on another day one of Riise, Alonso's or Gerrard's shots would've been unstoppable and on target - they do it quite a bit so it wouldn't be chance.

>>but I do wonder what the intent of the freekick was

I think he said they've practised this and he scored a similar goal in your derby
just not off his arm ;)

Congratulations Milan.

Thanks rome1977!! Respect to you and all Pool fans! :respect:

I thought we played a terrible first half, and improved marginally for the second, but ultimately, I dont care...WE WON!!!

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!! :diablo: WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!

I got very drunk last nite, and I am here at work with a killer hangover...but such is life!! WE WON!! I always thought we were better than Liverpool, and it was good to see our resilience as they put us under pressure.

The goals by Pippo, were vintage Inzaghi....

I went to a sports bar to tease some of my friends, and a group of Englishmen, not all Liverpool fans, were sooooooo bitter...they called Maldini gay, Pippo a W***er, and Milan cheats...

I just smiled and said, hey, look who is lifting the trophy! I bought them some drinks, and ignored them and their ranting for the remainder of the night.

I believe a lot of englishmen may be harbouring similar sentiments...but I could care less...we won...we won, we won....

:devf: "Do you hate me now?..cause I wont stop now!" :devf:

Poor Inter, even when they try their hardest, we always seem to outshine them. Inter always the bridesmaid, never the bride.
Need an Italian translation. Gattuso is pictured carrying a sign that reads, "io non la vinco d 42 anni" please translate. I'm guessing its a stub at Inter.
Next season will be even tougher. I want the scudetto.

About Kuyt's goal, I'll probably have to have a look to see again, though I ought to be honest, I'm not too bothered either way right now ;)

About Pennant's chance, I wouldn't quite call it clear, as Jankulovski (I think) actually slid in and normally it would have gotten blocked (it actually went under Janku's leg), added to which it's a very difficult angle to beat Dida, so had he scored, I'd be very impressed. As for Gerrard, I'm pretty sure I did mention his chance.

About the long shot's from Riise, Gerrard and Alonso, yes they're good at those shots, but then again Kaka was on numerous occasions in a good position to run past the last defender to be through on goal which were wasted, and more often than not, he does it. So in that respect I think both teams had opportunities which you might hope them to capitalise.

That freekick is a bit strange. I can't remember it being done in the derby but definately the Empoli match Pippo mentioned. I remember one time seeing it hit Pippo but it didn't deflect in, but rather just dropped perfectly for him to slot in. As for the arm yesterday, I don't quite think it was intentional ;)

All the english newspapers and russian ones say that ........
:tired: :tired: :tired: :tired: :tired:

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/09052007/4/sheva-return-milan-galliani.html
Here Galliani says that we actually now have a place for Sheva, as Kaka became a member of EU.

muoooaaaaaahhhhhhh :devf:

english newpapers, u say... :sweeteye:
the same papers of the tale of manchester and the age?
Or the same ones so sure on the rat-gerro victory over the kitten grawl eyes?
Kakŕ will dress red & black for long time, i think, surely next season he will lead us to win in Montecarlo at the end of august, and then he'll be our diamond in Japan, 4 for the world teams cup

Ah, what do u think: Emerson for Oliveira? Great, to me
