View Full Version : UCL Final - Milan vs. Liverpool... Athens, May 23rd
I didn't mean to fool anyone, though that fake medal isn't as bad as some of the Milan 'shirts' from this season that are on eBay - don't even have Adidas on them ...
I always thought Kuyt was offside, I thought the ball came of a LUFC player- but if it was Maldini fair enough (just like Sheva's disallowed goal in 2005?).
I also had to change my avatar because of you ACMILAN, but it's cool. :zany:
Now I can die.............
and miss the Intercontinental, scudetto, and (again) UCL next year? :p017:
Hello, hello
Just got home from Greece and the first thing i do is opening Milanmania.
Congratulations. Many outside this forum will disagree, but Milan deserved the trophy after calciopoli, after all sorts of transfer and CL appearance problems, after 0:2 in Munich, after 3:0 against Manchester.
The ones who were in Athens will only confirm how it was something we'll hardly see again in our lifes. The atmosphere in the city before the match was unique. Liverpool fans were outnumbering Milan fans on the streets but from what i've seen, although i heard different later, everybody acted friendly.
The atmosphere in Spiros Louis...wooow...i still hear the fans singing.
Organization was great, although i heard later how there were some problems with fighting.
Kudos to Liverpool fans for being the greatest in the world and kudos to Milan fans for being close second best fans in the world.
The match...well, i didn't see more than 60 minutes of it. The atmosphere sarounding me was so F-in unbelievable that i found it to be more interesting than what was happening on the field :)
In the first half we all thought Liverpool will score ( btw, i spent the last 5 days in Greece. In Salonika, every single man i talked with wanted Milan to win. In Athens , among the neutrals, it was something like 55-45 in Liverpools favour. In my talks with the locals i found out that Panathinaikos and especially AEK fans were on Liverpool's side, while Olympiacos fans wanted Milan to win. That was my impression.)
Everytime Pennant would have taken the ball, and everytime the Milan defendrer (i thought it was Nesta all the time and only few hours ago i've been told it was Jankulovski) would have given an easy ball, the crowd went crazy.
Gattuso had his worst game in 2007 while Mascherano had the match of his life and made Kaka's life harder.
Still, Pool didn't create many chances, while the semi chances they had were missed and Milan will always punish that.
Free kick, Pirlo scores ( we all thought it was Pirlo who scored the goal until Pippo's name came out) and delirium. Milan fans have shown why are they among the best in the world.
At halftime i made a bet with one older Danish gentleman that Pool will equalize, while he told me Pippo will score another one and win the match (i should have lost 10 euro but the man refused to take my money :) ). The atmosphere at halftime was no different than during the 45 minutes of first half.
Second half came and Stivie Gerrard made the miss of his life. Maybe for Crouch, Alonso and Carragher this defeat won't be as painfull as 2005 defeat was for Milan players, but i bet for Gerrard this defeat and his miss will hurt as much as the defeat and missed chance in 2005 hurts Shevchenko.
Then the match became pretty boring and Milan fans took the initiative so i spent most of the time watching them and i would take a look on what's happening on the field only when the crowd around me would have gotten crazy.
As the end was getting closer i was sure Milan will win this match. Liverpool lost the pace, strenght, ideas.
And then Buuuuum...Pippo again.
Now even the neutrals applauded Milan and were happy for this goal.
We all started preparing for the celebrations, Milan fans were getting lauder and then out of nowhere Kuyt scored ( i missed this goal :( ).
The same neutrals who went crazy after Pippo's goal and were applauding Milan, now changed their minds and started shouting for Pool to score another.
It was too late though.
Milan won and we all stood up to give them a minutes long applause.
I was filming with my camera and i'll try to upload the video these days so you could also feel a part of the atmosphere in Athens.
Congrats again for the deserved win
P.S : Oh, and i was wearing my Nedved jersey all the time. Had no problems at all :)
and we are still awaiting impressions and CONGRATULATIONS from a true Milan fan who was present in Athens ... Tony, what's up buddy, why the silence and why are you pretending you are not on-line :D
Hi there buddy. :grinser:
We'll talk later. I have a lot of reading to do. I took a 10 minutes look at transfer rumours few hours ago, but now i will have to read every single rumour. :)

the scudetto put in your ass, (intetriste!)
I liked the part after the game when the Liverpool players were going to collect their medals and the Milan players stood around and gave the player a round of applause... in which the Reds acknowledged and shook the Milan players in turn as they went up the stairs....
Shows a great mutual respect between the two set of teams/players despite all the pre-match media trash thats been said...
i second that. it's a much better and elegant ceremony at the stand, instead of at the pitch

Put the scudetto in your a**
Lol, fans will always be fans. There's absolutely no need to make fun of Inter at this moment, and it's kinda classless, but it's damn sweet :)

yes Tony29 how are you, :diablo: man from Athens :5ok: ,
it must be happened something if our players (because the banners came out from the double decker) have showed those couple of banners, Ambro first, (Put it in your ass that scudetto) and then Gattuso (42 years without a Champion's Cup).
Yeah, probably something to avoid, but for this reason I suppose something irritant has happened: we know our education, our players are not ill-bred at all-
don't u think?

Lol, and an Everton scarf! Maybe I'll use my Sunderland scarf if Milan every play Newcastle (and I go and watch).
The music is Feeling a Moment (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjgQLEZ6vjY) by British band Feeder, thought I recognised the voice from somewhere.
Interisti constantly talked how Milan shouldnt have played CL at all...and so on... they deserved this! Once again we can say: Milano siamo noi !!!
I got drunk yesterday and came home at 5 AM...I also planned to keep it on with celebrations today but I had no more power left in me. Still, the smile cant get off my face!! And have you guys seen Ronaldo with this completely new hairstile?? He was so happy after the final whisle!! I hope he is preparing well for the next years final :)
So once again we did it! I cant believe my eyes really... After Pippo scored second goal all the people in the pub in which I was watching the game jumped and for a few seconds I didnt know was it maybe an offside...it seemed like hours untill I saw Pippo and Kaka' celebrating like mad persons!! :) Than I jumped like hell and started shouting! Today I saw celebrations in Milano and players landing at the airport, it was really something special.
AND, DID YOU GUYS SEE GALLIANI'S AND BERLUSCONI'S REACTIONS ON OUR GOALS??? Galliani was his old self, he went crazy, but berlusconi!! This man is like 007! Just a little smile and a look towards Galliani, than he applauded a bit. Im not sure which one of them is a bigger lunatic :)
I hope Sheva and his wife watched this game with English commentator so they can practice English more!! Nice decision Sheva!!
Thank you all guys for believing in Milan! I was reading all your comments but didnt know what to write except for "forza milan" or something extatic like that! GRAZIE RAGAZZI!!!

just wandering, Gino, isn't "a**" actually "culo" in italian ... is "cuo" some kind of shortcut for culo or a completely dif word? (the word on the banner reads cuo, not culo)
Thanks
P.S. I thought "cuo" is jargon for "cup" and that slogan was saying "put the scudetto in the cup" meaning the CL trophy is bigger than the scudetto.
EDIT: I just looked at that photo with the banner in question and the people who are holding the banner are NOT Milan fans, these are Milan players on top of the double-decker bus ... so, it kind of seems a bit too extreme for them to be saying "put the scudetto in your a**" to Inter ... the fans, yeah, but the milan players?!
This is so magical. MILAN: I LOVE YOU!!!!
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!! School was amazing today. All those people who were laughing at me and snickering when I did a presentation on my love for Milan have all congratulated me!!! Muahahaha!!!! CAMPIONE D'EUROPA!!!!!!!

An Italian man has been jailed for six months for attempting to steal a satellite dish in order to watch Wednesday's fight for the Champions League trophy (left). The 46-year-old tried to steal the dish from a campsite because the Italian Alps near his home stopped his TV from picking up a terrestrial signal, the Gazzetta dello Sport reported. The man, also fined $584 Cdn, was caught because he made too much noise. Source: http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/sports/story.html?id=1d9d7447-6244-4788-9edc-8ef513a21cc3
I saw this in Vancouver Sun today. Oh.....poor man! At least we won! Yay!!!! Oh man. He got fined for making too much noise??!!! I guess I'm lucky I didn't get fined then...cuz I screamed until I was blue in the face and nearly destroyed my friend's couch.

From what I've heard, Oddo didn't really lose his medal at all and was apparently joking around. If that's not the case, he should've done what Dida did and tucked it into his shirt. :)

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I'm still stunned by Milano's celebrations. I've taken two days to recover last night party in the centre of Milano.
Firstly the megascreen (guys, i just could get a few highlights of the match, it was too packed and oddly the tallest guys in town just always in front of me LOL ), and the amazing tension for the game.
Then the final whistle. People went mental.
I just could finally get a revenge for that bloody night of 2 years ago (i was in Milan centre too).
When we were about to lift the throphy i couldn't watch the screen properly, so i asked a street seller to let me watch from his street kiosk structure and after praising him for a couple of minutes the great guy (thank you so much, man !!!) let me see Paolo lifting his 5th Eu Cup properly !!!!!
I couldn't be more happy!
Then people celebrating went here and there, and while i was walking i heard people were going to party just under Massimo Moratti's home and Inter offices in via Durini LOL.
Meanwhile we reached Piazza San Babila, and i saw people celebrating in the water inside the fountain, and taking everything inside.
The streets were full of cars and crazy bikers...
The celebrations healed the amazing unjustice of Istanbul's final, and we finally felt a nightmare was fading in the memories.
We are Champions of Europe for the 7th time. From now the mission is to reach Real Madrid and become the most successful club ever!!!!!
A final thank to Mr. Silvio Berlusconi. He took us in the middle of Eighties and yesterday led us to his 5th European Cup. Without him nothing of this would have been possible.

just curious, why did the referee blow the final whistle 15 seconds earlier than the designated injury time's duration?
as the defending champion, do we have to face the preliminary round as we do not finish top 2 in serie A?

Words just cant express how i felt seeing il capitano lifted the cup...
I watched the game over and over..... Can't get enough with it..... :devf:
Btw Zlat, I was a bit surprised too when you said about the players who hold the banner about '' put the scudetto...". But seeing all the picture in Coriello site you can understand that it's not the players who made it... (They hold no banner at the begining) it just a banner from the crowd. Given the situation of euphoria and probably a sense of joke, they might took it. Let them have a bit hangover.... then we will handle it with class again... :respect:

yeah, I guess you are right as that's what some sites and papers in Italy seem to be suggesting too - fans were passing these banners to the players, who probably weren't thinking much in that euphoria.
Galliani has apologized though and said that as soon as he was told what the banner read, he had it removed.

While I was watching the match on TV, I was talking on the phone with my friend at the same time and I was all nervous but he kept saying Milan would strike first and thats exactly what happened from an Inzaghi deflection before half time. But Ive noticed that whenever Pippo plays in the starting lineup in CL, Milan most of the time win. :devf: This usually happens in the 2nd leg because 1st leg is for Gilardino. But this was the final and Pippo had to start. Last time Fillipo wasnt playing and thats why we lost. :5ok:
And I wonder how sheva must be feeling, since he left Milan to help Chelsea win the CL but that didnt happen. He'll be regretting now but I hope he comes back to make a lethal attack in the CL next season. Sheva, Ronaldo, Pippo, Gilardino
Im loving what Moratti has said, haha.

Us fans can only really think about what the players are going through, from a personal point of view I have been joked with and terrorized by people who surrounded me early on in the season with our poor start, imagine what the players must have gone through? What they did full credit to them, If i was a milan player I would of done the same, Zlat do you even remember all the cheap shots they were throwing at us this season? Moratti and Mancini were actin like real P****s and everything that is said on them banners is well deserved. Then again when Galliani found out he tried to put an end to it, lol well im sure he did.

of course I remember them but a slogan like that is not a cheap shot or an ironic joke ... it's a pure and vulgar insult and things like that are rather tasteless.
Plus, Milan prides itself in rising above these things, in being better than the opponents in a class of their own ... with a slogan like that we are falling at their level and maybe even further below ... is this where a Milan fan would want to be?

Oh put a sock in it Zlat :wallbang: How manu times have the Inter fnas laughed at us? Branded us "cheaters"? Boasted about how great their squad is? Blasted Ronaldo? I AGREE that it is classless and far below our usual standard. Personally I don't endorse it but you have to let our boys breathe/ vent a bit. after suffering ALL SEASON LONG.... I'd much rather enjoy the joke than blast my own. We are Milan but we are real people with emotions and the stoic sh!t gets boring. This is emotion!

this coming from the fans, I would understand as fans are fans ... but for Milan players to hold that banner, sorry dru but calling "emotion" is just a poor excuse, actually worse than just poor.
We are talking about the players here, the representatives of a club like Milan ... not just about some drunk vagabonds, who decided to be smart and show emotion.
and again, if you are gonna excuse this with "they did similar things to us", then again, next time you decide to call yourself different, better than Inter, you will hardly have any justification for that as we have well gonne down to that same level.
Waht's worse here is that Inter players, bar from some jibes in the media from that clown Vieira, have never done anything even close to deserve a slogan like that ... Inter fans could do whatever they want, but the players have never been part of a classless and not ironic but literary vulgar insult like the one yesterday ... that was far below all the pathetic and cheap shots Vieira, Mancini and Moratti the clown have thrown at us lately.
what happened yesterday was a totally dif level - it's one thing to be ironic about their scudetto, make fun of them and even deride them ... but that slogan was simply vulgar and classless ... something that only semi-educated bumms could come up with, which was probably the case as this slogan came from some of the fans ... to bad it also appeared on the bus in the hands of the players.
The best thing to do now, IMO, would be for Maldini as captain of the team to speak to Inter players (Zanetti) and explain what happened ... otherwise, Milan players would basically be agreeing with that banner and will become part of something that is below them, especially now that they won the CL.

Dude look it's like the way Gattuso behaved after we beat up Shalke 04. OF COURSE it was classless and stupid. But understand that Gattuso sweat blood for us to help us win. Not for one moment did I ever hole it against him. I'm surprised that you are taking this aloof position after you have seen the nasty things said and done against us this season. I am a Christian and I don't believe in returning evil for evil. I also agree that what was said was quite vulgar...but I certainly understand my boys and soon enough they'll know it was a mistake too.....but I'll surely never dwell on this incident...........Inter players classy?? :yuck: I really don't have to go into how Inter players lack class......from something as simple as not being able to enjoy their OWN trophy until they see us lose (well that didn't turn out to well) to the way they behave in derbies.....I'm sorry but Inter players couldn't reach our level even if they ran and pole vaulted.
The fact that they did similar and worse to us IMHO doesn't justify anything but it surely can be filed under "extenuating circumstances". I'll never disgrace Il Capitano by asking him to apologise/ explain to those losers
It bothers me when people put professionalism/ etiquette above actual ethics and morals. Which is worse : telling someone to take your scudetto and shove it up your ass or to be involved in a dishonest/ illegal campaign??
I wonder if I might interject here...maybe I'll make sense, maybe I won't, we'll see how thjis ends up.
First of all, the banners the team had...those were made by fans. I say that b/c as I was browsing pictures someplace just yesterday, I spotted FANS holding those signs. At the time I read them but didn't care what they said. So some crazed fans handed them up to players and some players decided to keep them.
Secondly, it's been a long and trying season for all of us--fans and team alike. Winning the CL title has to bring a rush of pure emotion and sometimes you don't think of the correct thing todo. That's one reason I pointed out that I'd seen pix of fans holding those signs. I'd have to actually agree with both sides of this little debate tho...
The players at some point need to be able to express pure emotion. They just won the CL title, they were probably functioning on little sleep and maybe a touch too much celebrating. I have no problem with them cutting loose--it's not like they tore down any buildings, ripped apart any Inter displays or anything like that.
But...it's also true that we're usually above stuff like that. Does Maldini owe Inter any kind of apology? I don't know, is Inter raising a stink about some sign some fan made? And I'm asking b/c I don't go to any other forums and I've read nothing elsewhere about a sign held during a parade. If anything someone on the team, maybe whoever held the sign or whoever accepted it from fans, should stop and explain where it came from. For once tho, considering the season we've had with all its ups and downs....I'm actually taking the arrogant side saying we won CL title #7....time to celebrate.... :5ok:
But understand that Gattuso sweat blood for us to help us win...but I certainly understand my boys and soon enough they'll know it was a mistake too.....but I'll surely never dwell on this incident...........Inter players classy?? :yuck: I really don't have to go into how Inter players lack class......from something as simple as not being able to enjoy their OWN trophy until they see us lose

Dru posted this while I was writing my own post. He says some things I agree with--our team gave their all for this win so our season would not be a total loss. I actually feel like they reached deep down inside and did this for the fans. Remember all the crap about oh certain players don't want to join AC Milan b/c of their losing those 8 points and maybe not making Champions League? I feel like the players said "enough of the BS, we need to show the world what we're made of." I think they did too and I still think we're the classiest organization on the planet!

Dude look it's like the way Gattuso behaved after we beat up Shalke 04. OF COURSE it was classless and stupid. But understand that Gattuso sweat blood for us to help us win. Not for one moment did I ever hole it against him.
so, Gattuso did something stupid vs Schalke and now we are supposed to beat that low? What kind of excuse of an argument is that - a player did something bad in the past, so now we have a green light to do whatever we feel like, in public, cause the precedent is there.
I'm surprised that you are taking this aloof position after you have seen the nasty things said and done against us this season. I am a Christian and I don't believe in returning evil for evil. I also agree that what was said was quite vulgar...but I certainly understand my boys and soon enough they'll know it was a mistake too.....but I'll surely never dwell on this incident
leave religion out of it please ... I am saying what I am saying becuase next time I say that I define myself as a person with a team like Milan and I believe they are better, classier than others, I don't want that statement to be hanging up there like a wet, dirty and hypocritical sock ... I don't want that staement to be just a statement with little to back it up with.
What was said yesterday was something we would all expect from other to do, right? ... and then we would say how much better we are than that ... yet, we do it and all we some up with is "put a sock on it" ....
Inter players classy?? :yuck: I really don't have to go into how Inter players lack class......from something as simple as not being able to enjoy their OWN trophy until they see us lose (well that didn't turn out to well) to the way they behave in derbies.....I'm sorry but Inter players couldn't reach our level even if they ran and pole vaulted.
I don't think I called them "classy" ... just not classlessly vulgar and all that in the PUBLIC. If Inter players were classy, they would have come out and supported Milan vs Liverpool as a representative of their own league, of Italian football ... did they do that, hell no ... they however also didn't make themselves part of a vulgar, idiotic slogan like the one yesterday.
The may not be classy but after yesterday, Milan fans/players are just about the only ones who would see themselves as classy, "better than the rest" ... as different from everyone else, in a league of their own.
After yesterday, rest assured, Inter players may not be classy but Milan players will not be seen with better eye either ... is this how you, as a Milan fan would want you club to be seen, equally classless to Inter, an organization you detest ...
am I really the only one here seeing the discrepency and hypocricy?
The fact that they did similar and worse to us IMHO doesn't justify anything but it surely can be filed under "extenuating circumstances". I'll never disgrace Il Capitano by asking him to apologise/ explain to those losers
well, that's defeintely a much stronger argument - "extenuating circumstances" ... definitely defeats my points to the last one and I am sure will raise Milan's prestige at leats a notch or two.
Disgrace himself? No, apologizing officially on behalf of the entire team is what will make him, and his teammates, look even classier than people think they are ... namely because your average Joe out there will NEVER "disgrace himself" with such a thing, doing it is what sets you apart form the rest ... and that's what we'd like to believe Milan is, don't we?
It bothers me when people put professionalism/ etiquette above actual ethics and morals. Which is worse : telling someone to take your scudetto and shove it up your ass or to be involved in a dishonest/ illegal campaign??
there are far better ways to express ones disapproval or opinion on this ... no need to sound like a drunken bum and lose the respect of thos around you with such vulgar statements which belong in a bar, not in the mouth or the banner of a group of people who strive and pride themselves to be in a league of their own.
of course I remember them but a slogan like that is not a cheap shot or an ironic joke ... it's a pure and vulgar insult and things like that are rather tasteless.
Plus, Milan prides itself in rising above these things, in being better than the opponents in a class of their own ... with a slogan like that we are falling at their level and maybe even further below ... is this where a Milan fan would want to be?
I can understand where you are coming from and reading everyones post I think its going a bit over the top if you ask me. Some people will agree with what we have done and others wont, however whatever we think or say wont change the facts that it has already been done, lets just wait and see if the Milan players show some new banners when the celebrations happen again. Like Debs said those were the banners of the fans and that is understandable, it would of probably been a different story if the players made the banners.
Inter will be again celebrating their scudetto on Sunday, after the match against Torino.
Lets see their reaction on these banners Gattuso and the others were holding. If Zlatan won't hold "Milan-cheating since 1899" banner, if Figo won't hold " 4:3, 2:1" banner and similar stuff, then they'll be the winners of this "who's more classy" duel. :)
Oh, and Moratti said " Galliani apologized and i accepted his apology, but i'm sure Inter players will remember the banners" :grinser:
Can't wait for the Milano derbies next season.
For the life of me Zlat, I can't figure out why you are being so hard on our boys. Milan is a great team yes we are very classy sure...but above all we are human. Milan players cheat, dive flop too. Conversley there are a lot of very fair and classy Inter players, Crespo and Zanetti come most readily to mind. We don't do it nearly as much as others but we do. But the fact that we do is to be expected and even sympathised with simply because we are human. We are prone to imperfection just like anyone else. One of the nastiest tackles I ever saw was Maldini's Elbow on Ronaldo..akter Ronaldo kept smoking him.....are we now to say that Maldini isn't the best defender ever :dontkn:? Has this depreciated his class somehow? Personally I'd look at the positives from the incident that Maldini loved Milan so much that he tried everything for us to succeed. What he did was wrong and there is no justification......but he is still our boy :proud: Today Ronaldo is our boy too :D
I think it is unecessarily conceited not to allow our boys to express themselves ...even if we deem it as vulgar/classless etc, as BOTH you and I view it. Leave the stoicism for literature. When people are hurt and oppressed they are more prone to lash out....It is hardly ever done properly but people understand. Bigger picture Zlat bigger picture....In short Inter dishonestly got success.....we took all the injustices meted to us on the chin and presevered....if in the heat of the moment we said soemthing wrong....it surely was a "Crime of Passion" and not premeditated like the Calciopoli scandal that Inter was essentially the mastermind behind.
We pride ourselves in being an honest club yet we were relegated for match fixing. At the end of the day there is not much difference between us and anybody else. We were simply blessed with a few great decent and honourable men. But we have also had our fair share of mistakes and idiots as well. In conclusion my dear Zlatanov : "Milan is a rose. Love even the thorns" :5ok: :5ok:
Thank you Maldini, to play till 38 years old and give me the opportunity to watch 2 players borned in Săo Paulo FC (Cafú and Kaká) win a Champions League playing with you, you are a genious of football
I'm glad too to watch Serginho, that learned how to play in Săo Paulo FC winning this prize for the second time with Maldini
About the game, was exactly what I was waiting for
Milan was playing as a quite disorganized team while Liverpool played with a amazing strategy
While Milan had weird momments like when Jankulovsky lost the ball for 2 times, Kaká sometimes went forward and didn´t had no one to pass the ball, Seedorf kinda hided and another failures, Liverpool were even pressing the deffenders of Milan, all players of the english team knew what to do in the field
Fortunally, Milan have a fantastic goalkepper (Dida), one of the best pair of deffenders I ever seen (Nesta and Maldini), 2 amazing deffending midfields (Gattuso and Ambrosin), the best player of the world (Kaká)... anyway, players quite better than Liverpool's
If Benitez were trainning Milan and Ancelotti Liverpool, a game against this teams would be a easy 3x0 for Milan
Inzaghi is freankin ninja, he is not a amazing skilled player but the way he appear to receive the ball, the way he fight in the field and the tranquility he have against the goalkepper is fanastic
Kuyt deserved to score that goal, what a fighter, the only sad moment of the game were watch this dutch player kinda disappointed after the end
Congratulations Milan
Platini: Dear champions Milan… Friday 25 May, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UEFA President Michel Platini has sent a letter to Milan congratulating the club for winning the Champions League.
The Rossoneri claimed their seventh win in the competition by defeating Liverpool in Athens on Wednesday, thus becoming the world’s most successful outfit with 16 international trophies.
“We want to congratulate your club for winning the 2006-07 Champions League,” read the letter to Vice-President Adriano Galliani.
“There was an amazing atmosphere inside the Spyro Louis Stadium and Milan’s victory reflected the team’s spirit of solidarity, the commitment and desire to make the match a special one.
“We would also like to congratulate your players for the fair-play shown to their opponents even after the final whistle.
“Also, we want to express our appreciation for your supporters’ behaviour, as they celebrated Wednesday’s win in a positive way and proved that football can and must be a sporting and cultural celebration.
“Once again we congratulate your club for this season’s performances and look forward to the Super Cup Final [against Sevilla] in Monaco [on August 31].”
Milan’s participation in this year’s Champions League had been in doubt last summer because of their involvement in the Calciopoli scandal.
Despite initially being withdrawn from the competition, they were eventually admitted to the preliminaries thanks to a legal loophole.

About the debate over the signs. It looks like they were from the fans rather than the players themselves. They probably shouldn't have been shown, but it's a mistake and I think the best thing to do now is forget it.
Galliani has rightfully offered Inter an apology and that's enough. If Inter players decide to show signs of their own on Sunday, that's low, but I doubt they will if I'm honest.
I also had to change my avatar because of you ACMILAN, but it's cool. :zany:
lol, my apologies (I kept forgetting to thank you before actually). Anyway, that was your avatar and I think you should keep it, as it was a very good one. I have changed mine to another pic that I feel the same way about :D

No it wouldn't. Benitez only understands Catenaccio and when that doesn't work and Gerrard doesn't bail him out they struggle. He keeps changing his teams and keep trying new tactics. He's been at the club three years and still hasn't got a settled starting XI or formation. That's why Liverpool are **** in the league. He got lucky in 2005. He won't get lucky again.

Ancelotti - 3 EC finals, 2 trophies. That's better than Lippi or that piece of garbage Capello.

I don't so much mind if someone is an arse as long as they understand football and make points they can back up, but you're both completely ignorant and nasty. It's the worst combination.

I wanna said this because, Liverpool Fans are always come to all boards and Presume they're the best fans in the Worlds and argue the kops are the most amazing supporter fans etc. But what happened in the Final when Milan were 2-0 in the place where the big screen was. Liverpool fans got nuts and began to attack Milan fans with bottles and flares then the exchange of punches began, I wanna remark this because, just like they all talk about how was a great group supporter they are, they are a bad losers and a violent group!!!!!!
No offense for Liverpool fans, please dont get mad is just a viewpoint xD

ADRIANO GALLIANI ON THE BANNER
5/25/2007
MILAN - Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani explained at the end of the football league meeting: 'I knew that there was this banner. I made a call to the bus and the banner disappeared. The players explained that they didn't make it and that it was made by some fan. So, it seems like something rather small. Moratti and I talked about it this morning and then we laughed and joked about it.'
-----
I hope that settles it. It's natural to say these things after the rush of euphoria and pride that comes from winning the Champions League, but that doesn't mean it's excusable. The San Siro has new rules doesn't it? On 'vulgar' banners and displays? So I doubt we'll be seeing anything nasty displayed this weekend INSIDE THE STADIUM by either parties.
Now Dru, if that were me, I would have wrapped that banner around my body and jumped around in front of Cordoba...and then swiftly ran from him before he tried to tackle me a la Valencia-Inter. I'm all for making a little trouble in the name of Milan. :grinser:
Giovanni you lucky bastard. :) I haven't seen any footage yet, but have only checked photos from the City Tour. I can't tell you what it feels like to see those blurry stills of hundred of tifosi welcoming the players. Red and black everywhere! I wish I was there man! :proud:

How can I do some credit to a manager that seems to try to lose a game in that way?
Lucky we have a amazing goalkepper, amazing deffenders and amazing players to score almost all inspired or we could watch a shame like Milan x Deportivo La Coruńa (2003/2004) or Milan x Liverpool (2004/2005)
No it wouldn't. Benitez only understands Catenaccio and when that doesn't work and Gerrard doesn't bail him out they struggle. He keeps changing his teams and keep trying new tactics. ...And he is spanish, Ancelotti is italian, even try the Catenaccio and almost never work out
Benitez doesn´t win EPL because he don´t even have 11 players in a decent level to put in the field and it´s kinda impossible to win a league with a few number of decent players like Liverpool
Benitez bring Liverpool into the final for 2 times, won the first time against Milan and lost the other one with no shame, Liverpool's players were even doing a great job, bringing a lot of dangerous to Milan's deffense, is it lucky?
I think Milan's first goal is luckyest than it
Not taking off the credit of Milan, that for sure deserved that title by the team that have but if there is one lucky manager in the planet, he is Ancelotti
Managing the best team of Europe and almost losing for a quite weakyer team for the second time
Ancelotti - 3 EC finals, 2 trophies. That's better than Lippi or that piece of garbage Capello.
Carlos Alberto Parreira - World Cup Champion
Guus Hiddink - No World Cup
Can I compare Parreira with Lippi and put he in a a higher level than Hiddink?

Milan get through owning Bayern 2-0 away from home
Before Man U:

Before Final:
Friend: Liverpool will own you'll just like two years ago!!
Milan win 2-1

The most funny is their courage to say "english teams" when between the 4 best english teams only Manchester United are a team that we can call at least a british team...
...a british team that quite depended of a portuguese player to arrive they into the semi-finals of Champions League, so when this player just stopped to play good to start to diving by the blow of Gattuso, the british team received a amazing 3x0
It´s so typical, before the game they are the best of world, after the game they don´t know where to hide the pride and arrogance and start to act like babycryes and blame the referee
I think they will never learn that it´s to dangerous to be arrogant and money, marketing and glamour don´t buy titles
That´s the reason why I already read some insane stuffs like "Gattuso is a bad player" and this phrases that mystic quoted
Typical!
I didnt see Reina do the wiggle dance in goal - did you? lol

I agree, the English media are ridiculous. I find them to be extremely patronizing if not just plain offensive to foreign football cultures. This jingoistic attitude is especially bad on ITV.
I also think the media screws up England's chances at high profile events, matches or cups. The amount the hound players and coaches is a joke and will be detrimental to the chances of the side. They effectively build the side up as though they're world class when they're not only to make sure they have them in their sights as soon as the side fails. Sven is a perfect example, a coach who had a good England side and nothing more, yet became the second most successful England coach in history after on Sir Alf Ramsey. He did a fantastic job for England and really wasn't treated how he deserved.
His side were not as good as people thought, as never did he have a truly world class forward, with Owen being the best, but hardly setting the world alight throughout these years. The left side of midfield was non-existent as England didn't have any real quality to go there, and eventually Joe Cole was forced to adapt. The central midfield having an average at best ball winner for many years, with Hargreaves finally stepping up a little, but still far from being a fully developed talent. Then there's the whole Lampard and Gerrard debacle where Sven would be hounded by both the media and fans if both weren't played, despite their ability to play together being poor. The defence was good, but only to be backed up by a usually average if not below average keeper. Added to this, the England side had absoloutely no idea how to control the pace of games, no real structure to the play and would try to pretty much "bully" their way through games.
Added to this, Sven's personal life was always under the microscope. Scandal after scandal being released about his drama would give him no chance to do his job properly. The media of course act as though it's their right to publish this rubbish, and if that's the attitude, then quite frankly they shouldn't blame him for lack of success, because their constant shots at him will ruin his career. Foreign media can be bad, but if they're bad, the English media is nothing short of scum.
Simply put, if England intend to make the next step forward (especially at International level, as at club level the foreign influence is huge), then firstly it's got to be to admit the failures currently in place, and a start would be to ignore the tripe the media pulls out of it's backside.
Do we now have to play South American Champions?
Yes but there is not a champion yet, Cucutá, Boca Juniors, Gręmio and Santos are atill trying the title

We won number 5 in 1994 without Costacurta, who was suspended for the final.
We won number 6 in 2003 without Baresi, who had retired and whose number was not being used.
I hope we can win number 8 with Gattuso on the field...
We'll win #8 after Paolo retires :(

I am sure that Gattuso wouldn't mind being suspended if that is the only way that we can win our #8 in Moskow. :D
On another note:
Michael Owen left Liverpool for Real Madrid because he believed that there was no way that Liverpool could win CL, and they did.
Patrick Vieira left Arsenal for Juventus because he believed that Arsenal was too weak to compete in CL, and Arsenal eliminated Juventus and almost defeated Barcelona if not for the absurd refereeing in the final.
Last year, I predicted that either Milan or Bayern could win this year's CL as obviously the departure of Shevchenko and Ballack brought good luck to Milan and Bayern. :flirt:

We'll win #8 next year while Paolo is still playing
i have few questions:
-had milan finished outside top 4 in Serie A this season, would italy got 5 representatives in CL?
-which milan's players did not get CL medal as they were not registered in CL squad besides Ronaldo?
again, fantastic victory!!!! milan is magic! i think kaka is almost surely awarded the golden ball!

1.If Milan was 5th in serie A then they would have played in UEFA Cup next year.
2. Goalkeepers : Facchin, Offredi
Defenders : Antonelli, Darmian, Grimi
Midfielders : Guerci, Di Genarro
Attackers : Ronaldo, Borriello
These players weren't among the 25 registered AC Milan players. But 6 of them were on B list and i don't know if they took a medal.
Ronaldo and Grimi weren't on any list, just like Borriello, but Borriello was among the 25 players in the first half of CL so maybe he did get a medal at the end.

Winning the UCL this year got us a place in next UCL even if Milan finished the last in the league.

true on 2) but not as true on 1) :)
The new rules state that the CL winner is guaranteed place in the CL groups for next year no matter what.
If Milan had finished outside the first 4, Italy would have still had 4 representatives in CL however the club that finished 4th (say Lazio or Fiorentina) would have been sent to the Uefa Cup but keeping the total number of Italian teams in that competition, the Uefa cup, the same.
If Milan had finished outside the Uefa Cup places, they would still go into CL, derectly, while the 4th team would go into Uefa Cup, however, this time around the number of Italian teams alloed into Uefa Cup would have increased by 1 (4 instead of 3).

I understand many posters have been mocked for the last 2 years for that bloody final in Istanbul, and now they want to give it back, but in general Liverpool fans have been great opposers, with amazing belief and loyalty for their team, and they deserve a little bit of respect, just as the United fans and team that got spanked in San Siro: they were outplayed but they surely were a great opposer.
I don't want to be sportive and sweet by any means, it's not my personality at all. Last night i was superhappy and watching Gerrard and the other players of Istanbul cry was a bitter sweet taste i've waited for for the last 2 years. A nightmare has been exorcised.
But in general i respect them as a great team, and their fans. A few cases can't waste decades of great and loyal supporting.
Anyway, did anyone know that during the official celebrations in San Siro we've played the record "You'll never walk alone" as a tribute for Liverpool?I think that was a nice act.

i agree, i love milan but i would have loved nothing more than to see gattuso and ancelotti eat their words through a liverpool win.
however, when all is done...........all kopites clapped all milan players and ancelotti and hopefully earned respect.
i think respect is an important thing in football, sometimes we love our players for their words (especially if against an opponent/rival) but overall it is the players like maldini who understand the traditions of clubs that get most respect (and also cos he is a god! :w221:)

It's funny how the people who are making the most noise about our 7th European Cup are not Liverpool fans, who as you say like their team accept the defeat with grace, but fans of other teams.

Yes, it's funny but not surprising at all, knowing the usual suspects you are referring to...
Mr. Moratti is their n°1
anyone have any pictures of this?

how about storari and fiori? do they get the medal? or one of them did not get one?
Btw, maybe i'm too late, but i must express my admiration for Kui and his predictions in last year.
Milan will be the new champions of Europe was something he said and sticked to it since Celtic-Milan match in February.
The impressive thing about this prediction is that not only he said it as a fan, but he really ment it and had some good reasons to believe so.
You're the boss Kui ! ;)

Yes, Kudos to Kui!! He never lost faith, he never lost hope, and remained a beacon to all of us who faltered along the way.
Props to Kui!!! Bless mi don!! Bless!!
Yeah, and I feel really smart for agreeing with him instead of just dismissing his comments as overly confident and pointless. I think he can predict the future, because I remember last season he didn't even bother watching the Barca games, as if he knew we were going to lose.
hurrah...we won again!!!!!!!!
da ghost of istanbul is buried 4 ever

Guys, I dreamed we won CL next year for 8th time! There were only 2 "minor" mistakes in my dream...
1. Sheva played for us!
2. We played the final against Bayern Munchen....
--------------------------------------------------------
Anyway, this isinteresting, from acmilan.com
MILAN - Ricardo Kakŕ has moved into the top three in the Milan goalscoring charts for the Champions League after finishing top scorer in this season's competition:
JOSE' ALTAFINI (Milan) Top goalscorer Champions Cup 1962-63 - 14 GOALS
MARCO VAN BASTEN (Milan) Top goalscorer Champions Cup 1988-89 - 9 GOALS
ANDRIY SHEVCHENKO (Milan) Top goalscorer Champions League 2000-01 - 9 GOALS
ANDRIY SHEVCHENKO (Milan) Top goalscorer Champions League 2005-06 - 9 GOALS
RICARDO KAKA' (Milan) Top goalscorer Champions League 2006-07 - 10 GOALS
Jose Altafini finished top scorer in the competition in 1963 and Marco Van Basten in 1989. Below are the lists of Rossoneri goalscorers in Europe's premier competition:
ROSSONERI CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GOALSCORING CHART 1958 TO 1991
ALTAFINI 20 goals
VAN BASTEN 10
PRATI 8
RIVERA 7
GRILLO - BARISON 6
BEAN - GULLIT 5
SCHIAFFINO - DANOVA - SORMANI 4
C.GALLI - LIEDHOLM - MORA - PIVATELLI - COMBIN - RIJKAARD - VIRDIS - MASSARO 3
BARUFFI - ROSSANO - SANI - LODETTI - BORGONOVO 2
MARIANI - BERGAMASCHI - CUCCHIARONI - FERRARIO - GERMANO - FORTUNATO 1
HAMRIN - ROGNONI - ANCELOTTI - DONADONI - EVANI - SIMONE - CARBONE 1
ROSSONERI CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GOALSCORING CHART 1992 TO 2007
SHEVCHENKO 33 goals
INZAGHI 25
KAKA' 21
SIMONE 14
MASSARO 7
VAN BASTEN - SEEDORF - CRESPO 6
ALBERTINI - SAVICEVIC - JOSE' MARI 5
PIRLO - PAPIN - WEAH - BIERHOFF - TOMASSON 4
BOBAN - MALDINI - PAPIN - RIJKAARD - PANUCCI 3
DESAILLY - LEONARDO - COCO - SERGINHO - RIVALDO - GILARDINO 2
ERANIO - TASSOTTI - LAUDRUP - A.ORLANDO - RADUCIOIU - STROPPA - R.BAGGIO - DAVIDS 1
DUGARRY - LOCATELLI - GIUNTI - COMANDINI - HELVEG - GATTUSO - STAM - AMBROSINI - GOURCUFF 1
(In bold still playing for Milan)
So Kaka' needs 13 more CL goals to be our all time CL top scorer! :5ok: Im sure he can make it! ( I will not say " if he stays", this is understood ). And Pippo needs 8 to make Sheva's record even... So, we need to reinforce and go after all the records in the next 2 years to come! :devf:

Yeah, my guess it's like a playoff roster in the NBA that reduces the number of players on the bench from the regular season. That's probably why Favalli came on at the end of the match in Athens instead of Billy having a sentimental CL send-off as well.
