Well, duh. That's my whole point. The sky didn't fall in 2000. It's not falling now. By the end of the summer transfer period, Milan had signed Redondo (on the heels of his Champions League MVP performance -- of course, Redondo promptly blew out his knee and didn't play for 2 1/2 years, proving that you never know) and Kaladze. The following summer (2001) Milan added Brocchi. Pippo, Pirlo and Rui Costa (not players of decent value in your estimation, I take it?). The rest is history.

The squad Milan has in place right now is much better than the one Milan had in place in the summer of 2000. And even though Milan lost their big signing of 2000 to a catastrophic injury, other great players still wanted to play at Milan. By the end of the 2002-03 season, Milan was again Champions of Europe and would begin a run of three finals and two titles over a 5-year period.

At this point, we have no idea what players may or may not end up in Milan jerseys by the end of August. Many of the greatest players are moved in July or August. For all we know, after all this b1tching and whining and moaning and groaning and screaming and threatening and crying and despair, Milan could end up having one of its best transfer seasons ever. Only time will tell.

Just read that news, but I think they got it from today's press conference where Galliani said:

The market? The situation is very clear, there are bids Milan appropriate for Huntelaar and Luis Fabiano, but the market is blocked because after the Real Madrid's purchase prices have doubled since last year.

So as far as I can tell there's actually not any new offers for the two players.

Also Gabriel, Redondo may not have played for us due to injury, but as far as I remember at the time he was the best player in the world at what he did, unlucky that he got injured, but it all turned out fine anyways

Also Dutchie-Milan, I don't think that's how we should talk to fellow Milanista's, save that for the Interista's. And saying that you hope ultra's kill the old man is classless to say the least.

So, we didn't look good in the summer of 2000. but we still managed to win some titles.........oh I feel better already....Champions League here we come
We re definitely gonna win CL this or the next season and just because we found some similarities with our season of 2000/2001.

Mr Spock would say:"your logic is flawless"

But let's all be friends and I hope no one gets mad or anything....recent posts made me feel a bit better after all.

Rick, Weah left Milan at 34 and he scored like 10 goals for the last two seasons for Milan and he hardly left as a player who was leading his team.
On top of that, Milan in 2000 still have Sheva(heading toward his prime), Bierhoff(can still score), a solid defense lead by Maldini(at his prime as he just turned 31 or so), and Albertini who was a midfield master. Then you have Jose Mari, who was suppose to be the next big thing from Spain. Coco was thought to be the next great FB from Italy. Ofcourse both Jose Mari and Coco did not have a career like many had thought, but at least they were promising.
On top of that Milan actually did manage to sign Redondo-yes he was injured and did not play till he retire, but he was a big name signing.

Then there were still Gattuso, Ambrosini, and Kaladze(who actually played great at DM).

To say that Milan now is a better team than Milan was in 2000 is just not right.

Nesta might be back but I doubt he is at the level of where Maldini was in 2000, since he just came back from a one year long injury. T.Silva might be better than anyone beside Maldini in 2000 but BIlly at that time was not far behind.
Pirlo is the same age as Albertini then, but Pirlo just had not been putting up good performances over the past year or two, while Albertini was very consistent between 1997-2002. Pato/Pippo/Borreillo at this stage is really not better than SHeva/Bierhoff/Jose Mari then. As SHeva was really dominant.
Dinho is the X factor.

Yes, it is true that you can't say we're definetly gonna win anything based in the 2000 transfer, but what it does do, is illustrate how Galliani works in the transfer market, wether that's good or bad.

Well, Gabriel, hindsight is 20/20, but when Milan paid 11 million pounds for Redondo in 2000, he had just been named Most Valuable Player of the Champions League and Real Madrid fans felt pretty much the way you felt when Kaka was sold to Madrid. So if Kaka promptly blows out his knee in training this summer and doesn't play for Madrid for 2 1/2 years (God forbid) it will be easy for Madrid fans to dismiss the signing with a touch of sarcasm years down the road. You can blame Silvio and Uncle Fester for a lot of things, but you can't blame them for Redondo blowing out his knee.

Quote:
Then when Milan finally won something in 2003, they did spent money on Pippo(even though he is still great, Milan did overpaid for him considering Juve has no use for him), Rui Costa(overpaid), Nesta(fair deal), signed JDT and Rivaldo for free with high salaries. Sounded like spending spending and more spending to me.
So Milan overpaid for all those players who were key to winning the Champions League and the Scudetto, yet now you complain endlessly because Milan is trying to take their time to get a better price on the players they're targeting this summer? There is no consistency to your argument. Which way to you want it? Do you want Milan to hurry up and meet whatever price the other clubs ask just to hurry up and get players signed fast? Or do you want them to try to avoid overpaying and get the best price possible?

Quote:
Rick, you can support and believe in Berlu and Galli all you want, but the facts are, they really have given up on Milan and its fans.
Supporting and believing in Silvio and Uncle Fester have nothing to do with it. Personally, I think Silvio is a fascist bastard. But fans were saying exactly the same thing you're saying now in the summer of 2000, yet Milan rebounded and achieved great things. Fans were saying the same thing in the summer of 2006 when the sky was falling because Sheva was sold and they didn't understand how the uncertainty of the calcio scandal was hindering Milan's ability to attract top players who didn't want to take a chance of finding themselves in Serie B. But who won the Champions League in 2006-07?

There's nothing that you worrywarts have been saying this summer that I haven't heard a thousand times before. Yet, Milan always seems to find a way to work things out and have some success. Milan is never down for long.

So what's the point in worrying and driving yourself (and everyone else) crazy when there is so much time left in the summer mercato? What are you accomplishing? If this is so painful, go to the beach. Read a book. Find something else to do to get your mind off it. Then check back at the start of the season and we'll see how things are shaping up.

Rick, I want to make it clear about Redondo in 2000. IT was a big name signing but it was too late and not really what Milan needed at that time as Albertini pretty much play the same role as Redondo. But to me it was not the right signing for MIlan.

As for overpaying for Pippo and Rui Costa....my point is not MIlan overpaying for them, it has more to do with spending on players. As Milan will probably need to spend the money anyway, why don't they spend now instead of Aug 31 or a few yrs later.

Also, offering to loan HUnter from Real is not the right way to lower the asking price of the player. Or how coming up with a dental problem to get a discount.
To be fair, 20mil for Luis is not too much in today's market and thats something Berlu have to accept.

They kept going on about Real driving up the prices, but guess what, thats what they(Berlu did all the time before). The diff is that there are more clubs willing to pay top prices for players.

I don't blame the lack of actions from Berlu and Galli after Sheva, as players just unsure where to go, actually, I even give them credit for holding on to players like Pirlo, Nesta, Kaka and Gattuso. But their lack of action after the CL victory is something that I still cannot get over.

BTW, Kaka won the CL in 07 and where is he now?

One last thing, last time I check this is a discussion forum for Milan fans to share ideas, opinions and thoughts. If you don't like people like myself and others posting worrying posts and messages, then you better come back in Sept. 1, 09 when everything is over. As I am sure more of these sort of posts, like Berlu sucks, Galli should have sign X....will keep appearing.

Well, that just goes to show that Milan has always been far from perfect in the transfer market then. Yet everything always seems to work itself out.

Thats what im doing, I'm not sure i would have bought hte new home jersey this year anyway... its soo fricken ugly!!

What i think Belusconi doesnt realize is that a lot of Milan fans dont have a lot of money, and try to make things meet just in order to go to games and and buy merchandise. Like all politicians, there completely out of touch with the average joe.

But what can a player bought right now do for Milan over the next four or five years that he can't do if he's bought in late July or August? There's just no logic to the demand that all the transfers be accomplished day before yesterday. Nesta was the same player for Milan after coming on Aug. 31 that he would have been had Milan signed him on July 1. The only difference is that had Milan signed him on July 1 (or even Aug. 11), they would have paid a lot more money for him.

Quote:

No, but if Milan were able to strike a loan deal with an option to buy, they could delay payment for Huntelaar until next summer and use this year's funds to buy more players (now wouldn't that make you happy?). Plus, they wouldn't be stuck with him if he didn't work out.

And if the doctors said Cissokho has a dental problem that could cause other problems down the road, then he has a dental problem that could cause him other problems down the road. Doctors take a hippocratic oath. Any doctor who wants to continue being a doctor isn't going to make up problems out of the blue just so the club can get a discount. If it was just a matter of Uncle Fester wanting to pay less, he wouldn't have agreed to the deal in the first place. Be reasonable.

Quote:

I agree. It's a fair price. The problem is that 20 million isn't what Sevilla is asking. Sevilla is asking for 30 million (his release clause). Fabiano's agent says he thinks Sevilla will let him go for 20-22 million. But do you think Galliani would get that price if it were his first bid? Of course not! If Milan started out with a bid of 20, there's no way Sevilla would let him go for less than 25. This is why they call it negotiation.

You have every right to say what you want (within reason). I never said any different. I'm just questioning what good it's doing for you to worry yourself to death about it. I'm concerned for your health (and especially for mrki's). My only purpose is to try to get everyone to be more reasonable, understand a little better that transfer markets are always crazy (and that the fans of other teams go through exactly the same thing), and try to remain more calm and patient. Milan is being linked to a lot of outstanding players. We know for a fact that they are working on bringing in some of them. So why not give them time to do their jobs and see what the roster looks like at the end of August?

Berlusconi seems to be on a mission to annoy the vast majority of Milan fans i can't believe he is content with the current team. I don't see this ending well for Berlusconi or the Milan team i am beginning to hope this ex wife will gain ownership over Finvest and Milan at least she won't make vastly inappropriate comments. I just hope that the revenue from the transfer fund can be used at Leonardo discretion i am fed up of Milan selling players and using that cash to buy who Berlusconi wants he really would make a awful football manager.

Here is what Leonardo said today:

"I was also very close to Paolo [Maldini], and I had a great relationship with Kaká, but football is not mathematics. We don't have Kaká anymore, but it doesn't mean we're weaker. In the last month I've had dreams – and nightmares – about tactics. I have plenty of confidence in this team. I will work much on the intensity of our game this summer. Talent is certainly not missing in this squad, we just need to change our mentality a bit. You can only win if everybody is ready to make sacrifices and work for the good of the team."

I actually happen to agree with him. Despite all the doom and gloom, the talent is there to challenge for the Scudetto and it would be hard for me to imagine the squad as it is now not finishing in the top four. Milan played brilliantly at times last year (even without Kaka). But there was so much inconsistency and sometimes Carlo's tactics seemed a bit stale. Milan has always been a team greater than the sum of its parts, but last year they didn't play as a team every time. A change in attitude and tactics could do wonders.

If Milan buys Fabiano, Huntelaar, Cissokho, Criscito or whoever, it will only serve to make a good team stronger.

Milan To Sign No New Players This Summer?
The Rossoneri could stay exactly how they are, according to Sky Sport Italia...

Following Silvio Berlusconi's controversial comments in the Gazzetta dello Sport this morning - that the Milan squad is already strong enough to fight for honours - Sky Sport Italia is now speculating that the Rossoneri may indeed bring in no fresh blood.

The sale of Kaka to Real Madrid for a whopping €68.5 million, together with the offloading of Yoann Gourcuff to Bordeaux for €15m, was originally expected to spark a spending spree at San Siro.

However, the transfer of Aly Cissokho from Porto fell through after he failed a medical - claims from Milan that have been rubbished by the player, who says that the Rossoneri were just trying to lower his asking price.

This has led to questions about Milan's financial situation. The club are well known to have had some economic issues recently, and Sky Sport Italia are even suggesting that Milan may in fact sign no new players this summer.

Indeed the station believe that the starting XI under new coach Leonardo next season could be as follows in a 4-3-1-2:

Abbiati

Zambrotta - Nesta - Thiago Silva - Jankulovski

Gattuso - Pirlo - Ambrosini (C)

Ronaldinho

Pato - Borriello

It remains to be seen whether Milan do indeed reinforce, but failure to do so is likely to cause uproar among fans, hundreds of whom rioted at Milanello this morning against Berlusconi and transfer chief Adriano Galliani.
