it has anything to do with leo he status how much power he wields and how much influence he has over the fans. Milan having 25-30 million losses for the past 4 years we still brought players like pato gilardino oddo jankulovski etc, god Ancelotti was able to play the formations he wanted when berlusconi was screaming from the board room and from the stands to play with kaka and ronnie or in 07 final play gila ahead of inzargi. true various issue such economic crisis missing out on 08/09 cl would have made this transfer window very slow but if we had a jose or wenger in charge they would be in a better position to influence the management. why do you think we went for leo ahead of rijkaard or van basten or a off chance of getting spaletti?

I watched the Chelsea-Milan game, and I have to say, things looked very good for Milan, even without any signings.
If we do not get a single new signing, I am pretty sure that was basically our starting lineup. Instead of Kalac, Abbiati, and perhaps Ambro/Gattuso instead of Seedorf. Our midfield looked somewhat sluggish, mostly because this was Pirlo's first game, but I am not too worried. I don't think Seedorf and Pirlo are capable of playing together anymore, because they do not have the same engine they used to. Oddo was not half bad in this game, and Zambro is still a top-class FB. Thiago Silva and Nesta pairing seems to be quite impressive, while Oneywu really does not convince me. He does not seem to put as much effort as someone who is supposed to be a super athlete should. Maybe he's tired, but, frankly, I would rather see Favalli come on than Onyewu, though it could easily be said he was put on because he was in the US. Reading through posts, I curiously do not see that much excitement for Abate. Di Gennaro seems to be overawed by the Milan shirt, and will probably get Coppa Italia duty. However, I have to say Abate as a second-half substitute gave a good shot in the arm for Milan. His passing was good, his crossing was very good, his work rate and pace were high, and I don't see why anyone shouldn't be more optimistic about this guy, he really could break out this season. Borriello is my main concern. He did not even put in the same amount of effort that he did last season, he looked sluggish, uninterested and seemed to stall Milan going forward. You could see it, Pato would check back for the ball, pass it to Dinho, Dinho would then hit it forward to Boriello who would give up the chase or let someone else take it from him, catching Milan as they pushed forward to join the attack, and as Mourinho always says: "the key to the game is when the possession changes teams." I agree with that statement, but I think a proper attacking unit is far more important than many realize. It's not about just scoring goals, that is secondary. The most important part of your attacking players is that they hold possession, allow your midfielders and defenders to adjust their position, push forward, readjust their marks, and continue with the tactics put forward. Ronaldinho lacks match fitness, but he is definitely much better distributing the ball than Kaka was. It seems that the team needs to gel, this much is obvious, but watching Ronaldinho take Pato's square ball, heel it to Seedorf, who missed the shot (a tough shot, not to blame him) but that was what sort of understanding can happen with our team. Our team is more or less what we have. I agree with Leonardo that the only thing we really need is a striker and a LB. The striker needs to be able to hold possession, take pressure off our other players, and chip in with a few goals here or there. Borriello, I hope is just finding his feet following the long injury layoff. Even if he does, it seems that he is still not Milan starter quality (even though last year, I thought he was). I just saw that Genoa grabbed Andrea Esposito, and he will be a fine defender, someone I wish we had, but, he's not the LB we need anyways. However, Crisicito is someone I think Milan should be after, unless Albertazzi really does come good. The midfield, I am not worried about. I am worried about Seedorf's place, whether he is an out-and-out starter, or an occasional one. I think in order to support Pirlo best, Gattuso and Flamini should flank him, and if we need more attacking grit, Abate is a great option off the bench. He works hard, and without the sacrificing of attacking play. He really is a more direct player, and I hope will get a lot of playing time this season. However, it is obvious that we need a striker and LB. Oddo is good in patches, and I'm not entirely convinced with Antonini as a everyday starter, but if we were forced to, I think it'd be unfortunate, because I really think Leonardo has reinvigorated our team, and you can see that in our play. The Inter game shouldn't be your evidence, that was two days after our Chelsea game, while Inter had five days off. If you don't think that matters, then you have never played football in your life. I am very optimistic after the Chelsea game. The first goal from Drogba might have been from our left side, but it was just a rocket of a shot. Kalac has to leave, and I think he will. However, I, like Leonardo, am very satisfied with how Milan looked against Chelsea. The team had more possession of the ball, passed well, and it is amazing how different Milan looked with an unfit Pirlo in the side, versus how we played in games previous. The difference against Club America, alone, should illustrate how much one player can affect a team. Anyways, I really have high hopes for Abate. I think he will slowly become a big part of Milan, kind of like Ambrosini before him. If you really think about it, there is much to be optimistic about. Leonardo seems to know exactly what he needs now, and I think its far smarter to try and go after players after these first few pre-season games, when you have a new coach and a huge transition ahead of you. Now Leonardo knows exactly who he wants and who he thinks he can rely upon. You don't gel with other players in the extra month you have in pre-season, you gel through the season. The key is can you still get results while you gel? That's what I'm worried about. |

I think the problem regarding Berlusconi is, that he can't be seen splurging Milan's money around (even though it is mostly his), while our country isn't problem free. Hospitals, unemployment etc. So the question is, Keep most of Italia happy, or keep milan fans happy? More votes on the first option...

That being said, the economic climate has made some Italians find his actions inexcusable, but if I'm not mistaken, aren't his poll numbers still pretty decent? |

There's got to be something up with this whole Guiseppe Rossi thing. It's impossible and implausible for it to be a hack given the conditions involved, and his signing (if true) illustrates exactly how Galliani and co work, if memory serves me right, a lot of signings have just come out of the blue. Has anyone from our managment denied this news or no?

BTW, I'm glad Leonardo has got the balls to counter management in the media. Carlo as great a manager as we was, had no guts. He would be ridiculed by Berlusconi in public and would still sit quietly and make jokes to the press.
Now I really hope Galliani et al have something up their sleeves. If our own coach is saying that the team is not complete and needs strengthening, then it is fairly obvious. I continue to believe that Galliani and Berlu are not morons (as hard as it is to believe ), and they know fully well what this team needs---I will continue to wait until the 31st of August and if they still don't sign a LB and forward, then I think the fans deserve to know the real reason why. |

My 2 cents on the Pirlo debate. Honestly, he is one of my favourite players, but I would like to see him leave. With him on the pitch, we lack dynamicism and we lack any other outlet to push the team forward. Pirlo is not a complete player, he does not have the engine that allows a player to run, push forwards, defend, make tackles (like Gerard for instance), he is a flair player who will break down teams with his genius.
I would prefer the "new" Milan to play with 2 defensive midfielders Dinho, and a dynamic "complete" midfield player who can link midfield to attack and defense to midfield. Seedorf 6 years ago was that player, now we should be looking to get someone else. Who knows, maybe we land up with Hernanes...wishful thinking again... |
