Serie A predictions 2008/9
Predictions for serie A 2008/9
1. milan 2. inter 3. roma 4. napoli 5. Juve 6. Fiorentina 7. Sampdoria 8. udinese 9 and on.... doesnt matter -I think inter and milan will race down to the wire, and although i have a hard time going against mourinho winning a league.... i cant pick inter -I think roma will be 3rd with a sizeable gap between inter and them. -I think napoli will sneak in. Good coach, LOTS of good young talent. HAmsik will explode and be chelsea, real madrids orgasm to sign for next offseason -I think juve will be unlucky. Nedved is 36, camorenesi 32 w/ injury problems. Del Piero 34. And beside cheillini he defense is awful. WAYY too much depending on older players.... reminds me of milan this season.... -Fiorentina wil struggle to balance CL and league early, make up points later but not be enough to get back in. -Cassano will do big things at sampdoria again... probabl move to juve after.

Last season i opened a similar topic and i wrote few really long posts.
I have to check my predictions from back then. ![]() Edit: I found it http://www.milanmania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23216 That was one interesting topic and great discussion with Dev and Zlatanov. I was close with my predictions (only Milan was a big mistake. I expected 2nd place but i did point out that the squad depth, or the lack of it, will cost Milan a lot...... remember, Dev )For this year i'll wait until August with my predictions. For now i expect Inter to win it and Roma to have a disappointing season. Napoli will be the dark horses of this championship but i don't give them more than 5% for a top4 finish.

ah i was hoping tony would refute my point on juve..... Napoli is definately on the rise. I'd agree w/ you there r probabl more than a season away from challenging top 4. But u never know. I like lavezzi, I LOVe santacroce and hamsik. Maggio and Denis r underrated signings (Although they did overpay for maggio) and if nothing else, reja really impressed me as manager as he tactically beat ancelotti in a must win game for us in end of season.
cmon more people post predictions! :-D

This is all OK, but we forget Lazio, i think they will be tougher this year. And if i try to find 5 place team, that for sure will be Lazio, not Napoli or Samp, i think Lazio is better squad.
My prediction: 1. Milan 2. Inter 3. Roma 4. Juve 5. Lazio 6. Fiorentina 7. Napoli 8. etc.

Do not Discard Fiorentina that quickly....prandeli know what his doing, last year was not just a lucky season...And they added some top quality players,so they have squad depth also

1-Milan (of course)
2-Juve 3-Inter 4-Fiorentina 5-Roma 6-Sampadoria 7-Lazio 8-Napoli 9-Udinese 10-Genoa etc. I have a feeling Inter will play for the Champions since their known to choke in the championship, so they'll fall to third this year, and yes, they will still choke in champions league ![]()

It has more to do with the quality at his disposal than with Mourinho himself, though. Give him Sampdoria to coach and you won't get a top 2 finish.
But yeah, in this case it will be close to a miracle if he won't make a top2 finish. Very good team and a very good coach, in a league where there aren't 4 super strong teams like in England.......top 2 should be the minimum. There is always first time for everything though, so we can hope this will be it ![]()

Quote:
More so at chelsea. people have argued with me he had an all star team, but i will argue stepping into inter he has a better situation. When he went to chelsea in 2004, the weren't established. sure he had a good squad... but surely not the same squad as henry's arsenal or manchester united. Lampard and Terry were not considered world class then. I'm not knocking them by any means... but the notion of lampard playing in italy or spain in 2004 would have been laughed at. Terry was a good cb, but by 2004 he still wasnt an established national team player (it wast till after this season he really dethroned sol cambell). Wingers were damien duff and a young young joe cole. Again, duff was solid, cole was a promising young talent, but surely not ryan giggs at manchester united or ljunberg/pires at arsenal. Didier drogba was brought in from france at age of 26/27. Sure he had talent but unproven in epl. He wasnt the striker, we name him today. I'd liken it to juve signing amuari.... talented but it not like they signed a guy universally seen as WC. Surely no1 would have compared him to henry. he also was hampered w/ injuries his first 2 seasons at chelsea. On top of that, he had gudjohnson and tiago.... again nice players.... but not scholes or roy keane. The most established names mourinho had WHEN HE ARRIVED at chelsea were makelele (world class), gallas (class) and the 2 porto defenders he brought with him (carvalho + ferrara). History shows us all these players turned out to be pretty good, but its not fair to say he walked into an allstar team.... because no one at beginning of 2004 would have had majority of thee players on there all-epl team. Majority of them were known as players of potential, good players, bot not world beaters... no1 would have put lampard in same class as scholes and gerrard which he eventually established himself as, AFTER working w/ mourinho. No one expected cole to all england winger, and terry to become captain, or sore to hieghts he did (and i'd like to add become PFA PLAYER OF YEAR) Perhaps the best i can liken it to is arsenal last year, or maybe even roma. with majority of players establishing there names after the season, as opposed to before. Te only difference is he won with them, and made them all big names. Another thing to be noted. there was no squad fighting when he was manager at chelsea, we all saw what happened with grant. But 1 can argue the had easiest road to champions league finals (olympiakos, fenerbace, liverpool isnt exactly the hardest path) my long winded point is, if u look at chelsea in 2004, and inter is 2008. mournho is walking into a BETTER squad. Cambiasso, zlatan, adriano, zanetti, maicon, cordoba... all better than any player chelsea had going into the season. He's a great tactician and has a knack of getting what he wants out of his squads. I'm personally so excited for the season because mourinho+ronaldinho will bring attention to serie A. I also expect 1 of the strongest campaigns in serie A. And although i do think milan w/o champions league has upperhand and will win, Ill be first to say its not inconcieveable for inter to win league, and i dont expect milan to win without a good long fight. Forza Milan!

I simply don't think this Inter team is better than the Chelsea team (if it was it would have gotten further in the CL and beaten Liverpool) and it's my opinion Mourinho is a tad overrated. Either way, I'm all for more attention on the Serie A. It's important. It'll mean more people switching on to watch games and demanding more games to be shown on television in other countries. Milan will win the league I think because we have the team to do it now... we also don't have the CL to distract us from our prime object.
My biggest complaint about Mourinho is he is erratic and switches things around way too often... even during matches when things appear to be going well. His substitutions have often been controversial... |
