Well, to be honest, Carlo usually used his best available defenders. Simic, although a CB, was Carlo's best option as RB before Cafu came. Then when Stam came and Kala getting injured, Maldini was the best option as LB. I think over the past 10 years, the best LB for Milan beside Maldini was Pancaro, yet he did made runs and crosses during games while also showing great defense works.
Bonera is so lost out there that he is making the opposing attackers into a 25mil player.
Overall, I think there are really only a handful of true WC fullbacks today and none of them is even close to the level of Maldini.

btw gabriel i highly disagree, i think other then maldini serginho was our best LB not pancaro
i also remember after he retired there was a game with all our previous playerrs involved and we won 5-1 and serginho scored 4 goals.. even after retirement he was a bullet i miss having a LB like him,
To me Serginho never really played as a LB, he was more a LW, LM and sometime even played as a AM. He did played as LB but his best games were those he played as an attacker coming off the bench or a LM or AM.

in Indonesia? yeah I was in the stadium, he maybe is the youngest players on the pitch. our former players vs fellow Indonesia NT former players.
BTW for our 5 goals in that game, 4 scored by Serginho.... and 1 by Dida, playing as CF with Taibi (?) in goal.

I saw the game, he was in tears after scoring the PK and going to the fans in the curva and his team mates. On top of that, Catania's regular PK taker is Lodi who was actually the guy who put the ball on the spot and was ready to take it but then the team decided to let Maxi shoot. Looks like they were giving him his "last goal". It indicates he is on the way out. To us? Dunno. Actually Lodi would be an interesting asset, at least as a bench player IMO. Sort of like a left footed Beckham.
If we do get Maxi I really doubt we get Tevez too, it would be overkill. Also in an interview after the Siena game Berlusconi didn't seem so psyched about Tevez. He was saying we had a world class attack and how he would like to see a Robinho-Pato-Ibra trio with Boateng in midfield. He mentioned that Cassano might actually be back in training before February, too.

I'm going to announce here, Christian Eriksen will be World Class in a the next few years.
He runs and runs and runs like Snejder, and is stylish like a Brazilian. His passing, shooting, dribbling ability is top class. I guarantee you he will be the next World Class #10. I want to announce it here.
He will be better than Ganso. He would be our Trequartista with Boateng in Midfield, and I think our team would improve 5 fold. He's very expensive and obviously wants to go to Barcelona, but I'm telling you, this guy is awesome.
