Winter mercato 2024

Whether we get 40,50,60,80, etc...it doesn't matter. It's still great business. We can't think like that....."should have sold hom last summer, etc". You never know the future and it's easy to talk after the fact.

Imo, the 1st thing to do is attempt to extend. Then, if that can't happen, sell, but obviously only out of a necessity (due to a business decision).

To be clear, I don't want us to sell any of our big starting players. Not Maignan, not Theo, not Leao, etc. If what we've heard lately is true....and I think it is because it came straight from the leadership....then we'll have at least 50m to spend this summer WITHOUT sales. So go and spend that on a CF and DON'T SELL our top players. One player only......a top CF with that 50m. If we can than manage to sell some deadwood, great. Use the proceeds from that to get the other needs such as a DM, RB, backup LB, etc.

I'm OK with selling players like Bennacer (i dont consider him a first 11 player anymore), Gabbia, Pobega, any of the already loaned out players, etc. But I don't want to touch 1st 11 players. No need to "open a hole in the starting lineup" and then spend the money we got on fixing that hole. I think we need to keep our quality, and add to it. Otherwise we'll always play catch up and we'll always be patching up holes that we ourselves create.

Enough of the 20m players. We did that last summer and got a lot of quantity. Some of the players got a lot of upside and we expect them to improve in the future (Musah) and others were already ready (like Reijnders, Pulisic, RLC). Now it's time to focus on quality. Just a couple players, that's it. Ones that will bring our level up immediately. Solve games for us, etc. I don't care about the age of the players tbh. Young or old. Just make sure they have top level quality.

Disagree here. It cant be the same to get more or less given we have to buy new players for the starting eleven and also bearing in mind the fact that the owner doesnt have a penny. Since we are a club which has to sell before buys, we need to materialize the best way possible these sales so we can fund new signings. At times where an average player is being paid loads of $, dont know why we should be satisfied with that what others pay for our departing players. Dont want to get into a h2h comparisons, but if Marotta could sell Onana for 60m to ManU ( and he came for 0 Euro to Inter ) , dont really get your point us to sell Maignan for 40m or whatever.
I think you misunderstood. I should have made it more clear. I was just trying to address the point which was made to say "we should have sold for 80 when we could last summer". Of course it's better to sell for 60 then for 40. But it also wasn't the right time to sell Mike last year. I also don't think it's the right time to sell him now...but I understand that if he doesn't renew his contract, we are forced to look at a potential sale this summer. And of course, due to the inability to reach a renewal agreement, we'll have to sell for less.
To be clear, I don't think Mike will go for less then 50, at the very least. But I think getting 80 without a renewal will be very hard.

On "having an owner that doesn't have a penny and being a club that has to first sell to buy"....where are you getting this? I'm not gonna talk about Gerry's personal funds nor do I care to. What matters is "can Milan buy without selling"? The answer is yes. It was proven last summer and it was flat out said by our own management that our accounts allow for us to spend 50 or so million without selling this sunmer. That may not be Real Madrid type of budget, but it certainly doesn't mean we have to "first sell to buy". That happened last summer because this management wanted to bring in 7-8 players. And so yes, they couldn't do that with 50m, hence the sale of Tonali.
But this summer is different. At least I think it is. I don't think we need 7-8 players. I'd be fine with 2. And for 2 players (1 great CF and a DM), I don't think we need to sell ANY of our starting 11 players. Buy the CF for that 50m budget. Everything else can be funded by selling fringe players and loanees.....NOT Mike. If we are FORCED to sell Mike....then more if of course better. But if we don't get top dollar, in reality we'd just need to use the proceeds to replace him and that's it. (Because the rest would be taken care of as I described above)

Even €65m is highly unlikely. In match threads "we" call him unfit (even fat), out of form, injury prone, easily replaceable and one we could/should sell and in this transfer thread "we" think he should at least be the 2nd most expensive goalkeeper in history just because he made a few saves 2 years ago? If not we are bad sellers? Based on how some describe him in this forum, we'd be extremely lucky to get €20m.
Reijnders seems to have had a growth spurt lately. Playing really well and made a lot of noise for Netherlands a lot of people talking about him now. Hopefully we build off the foundation and don't do what we did with Tonali. I know it worked out in hindsight with Sandro given the whole gambling scandal but what I'm saying is I hope now that he's starting to become a big name (Reijnders) and surely becomes a solid player that we don't look to sell to the first 80m that comes our way.

On Mike, he's disposable for me. I'd sell him and Bennacer this summer if we can but not sure who would pay good $ for Bennacer given his injuries and form lately.
I doubt we can get more than 40M for Maignan. GKs in general are not worth much and they're rarely overpriced, at least not to huge extent. Second, clubs which can afford to spend 60-80M on GK (PSG, City) already have GKs, so they won't spend much for a backup.
My best bet would be maybe Newcastle, but considering they weren't much generous when it comes to Tonali (and how it ended for them), no reason to be generous here.

This is an excellent and very important point. PSG, Real Madrid, Bayern, City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea (this one mainly out of stupidity) are currently the only clubs in the world that would be able AND willing to spend 80m on a GK. But none of them are in that kind of a need at the moment, so i don't see it this summer.

There are other EPL clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle that can probably afford to pay that for a GK, but I don't see it. Tottenham and Newcastle (despite their funding) actually try to do smart business with their transfers. Arsenal on the other hand has Ramsdale, but more importantly, also have an option to make their loan for David Raja permanent...which after his performances so far, they will do 99.99% because he's relegated Ramsdale to the bench after his return from injury.

Origi returning will be like a new signing...

Replacing him with experienced player like Kramaric would be ideal

Saudi clubs might be another possibility

Dont think Mike would go there
Well, he seems to be $$ greedy, so don't rule it out entirely. But, Saudi clubs are not paying much for players. They mostly hunt freebies, and those few they bought, they negotiated (it's not "name your price" kind of approach). So, wouldn't expect ridiculous money from them either.
It's more likely that we will sell (receive good offers for) Theo or Leao. It's larger demand for those positions, and they are more likely to be overpayed (but knowing our sale skills, we can only hope for overpay).
