Now thats my type of a Milan fan :) Surely I will check Inception & Robin Hood. Tell you a little story, when the Batman Begins & specially The Dark Knight were released back in 2005 & 2008 respectively, I skipped them despite all the buzz of TDK in 2008 specially, thinking that a batman-movie would be no fun for me & its for little kids who watch cartoons. Few months ago, i don't know what happened, I just decided to try TDK. I wasn't expecting much & just started watching & by the time it ended, I was absolutely stunned & captivated by the thrill & excitement which I experienced. Then after my summer vacations, I watched Batman Begins & I loved it as well. Now I can't stop thinking about these 2 movies.
The reason for my this story is that now I will not wait 2 years to watch a Christopher Nolan film :) So Inception is probably the next on my movies-to-watch list.
By the way DUCO, do you have any movie, DVD collection? I am on a mission of getting the full series of 007 James Bond Movies  9 downloaded & 11 to go :firedev:
I didn't know this thread even existed, here are a few I recommend:
City of God, a Brazilian crime drama with English subtitles, if you liked the Godfather, I''m sure you will love this, very different but equally impressive. I bow down to the guy who directed this, the cinematography is a work of art.
Godfather trilogy, of course :)
Burn after reading, a quirky satire about a few stupid Americans, whats not to like about that?...if you like dark shock humor then its a must
Monty Python - the meaning of life, there are 2 types of people, those that "get" Monty Python and those that don't
Monty Python - the life of brian, "
Napoleon Dynamite, frikkin hilarious, nuff' said
Despicable me, best animation of teh year for me
District 9, more than just another alien movie, I found the layers
Borat: The cultural leanings of America...toilet humor and sexist jokes at its best
Other movies that are ok: Blood Diamond, Eastern Promises, Syriana
You should watch 'The Damned United' from 2009. It's about the English manager Brian Clough's time at Leeds United (Back when Leeds was a big team). It stars Michael Sheen (Players Tony Blair in the Queen, and Frost in Frost/Nixon) who's an actor I really like.
Definetly worth a watch.
I finally did several weeks ago Christian, and I agree with your last sentence. Later, I found out there were some inaccuracies in the movie, but they don't matter though. I've often read about Brian Clough, how people compare him with Mourinho, and now I understand why. Big-mouths with just as big achievement to make up for it. Thanks for the suggestion, mate :5ok:

Haven't watched most of them other than City of God, Godfather Trilogy, and Burn After Reading. I'm not really a fan of some slapstick comedy so I must say I could only watch the first half an hour or so of Napoleon Dynamite otherwise I risk of :yuck:
Anyway I really like Burn After Reading (and most Coen Brothers movies). They mock many things, from plastic surgery to exaggerated paranoia. I nearly laughed my guts out at some of the last lines from the movie:
CIA Superior: “So what did we learn from this?
CIA Officer: “Um... I don't know.
CIA Superior: “I don't ****in' know either. I guess we learnt not to do it again.":haha:

thank all!
Frozen (2010) - A must see film
Here's an old movie but if you can catch Requiem for a Heavyweight starring Anthony Quinn, Jackie Gleason and Mickey Rooney. It's about a boxer on his last legs (Quinn) and his manager who uses him even when he is past his boxing days. The acting, especially by Quinn, is incredible and it is easily one of the saddest movies I have ever seen.

I just want to praise the works of a true genious: Lars Von Trier.
The 52 years old danish director makes wonderful and challenging movies you will watch several and several times.
The "USA: Land of opportunities" trilogy started with
1) Dogville (2003)
and continued with
2) Manderlay (2005)
These two movies have been taken into my Philosophy of Law program by my lecturers as a starting point to reason around "Liberty and Justice", around the relationship between Dogville (or the City of Men) and Godville (or the City of God, one of the biggest subjects in medioeval philosophy in masterpieces such as Saint Augustine's Civitate Dei ).
The second movie criticises the idea of "democracy exportation" and it shows how good intentions (or bad) can lead to a disaster. It will make you think a lot, and it's perfect to start a debate on political or moral subjects.
I won't bother you anymore. Just alert you that the movie style is very particular. Lars Von Trier founded the Dogma 95 movement, which is meant to take cinematography back to its essence. Therefore the movies are often shot with steadycams, with almost no score or effects and are just based of powerful and fantastically written scripts and great performances from perfect actors.

Nice list, but man The Godfather movies are just long & boring just like the Fabio Capello teams of the recent years.
Mzk, if you like "the main parts" of Malena then from Elmago's list, I suggest you watch Eyes Wide Shut :devs:

Guess what, I have downloaded it 2 days ago. But I must admit, despite having stunning facial beauty, Miss Nicole Kidman is no match for Monica Bellucci ...... if you know what i mean ............

If you like Monica Belluci (Who doesn't ???), then you should check out Irreversible.
It's a very disturbing movie, and it contains at least one of the most brutal scenes I've seen, but I have a feeling you'll think it's worth it by the end :delol:
It is a good movie though, just not the kinda movie you watch twice.

Now this thread is really talking :devs: That movie is on the top most part of my watch list, but the problem is that I have not found an English dubbed copy of it on internet so far. I am really searching for it. I once saw an old Serbian movie in Serbian language with English subs. I didn't enjoy it at all. Now I will not spoil 'Irreversible' like that. So I can wait till I find an English dubbed copy of it. If any one has any link or something? :)
Saw 'The American' (2010) the other night. Man I couldn't believe my eyes what Mr. George Clooney was doing in it ......... & I thought he was a neat gentleman. Good movie with slow tempo & okayish type of story but the best part was the Italian woman named Violante Placido. I am seriously falling in love with all these Italian women  Genuine beauty is found in Italy,.............. or is it just me? :D
and I watch today the best movi ever made by the man The Shawshank Redemption[1994]
A really, really great movie Duco. I was kinda reluctant to watch it because, more often than not, I was disappointed by the novel-based movies.
I have read the Stephen King's book called Different Seasons and the stories that stood out IMO are Rita Hayworth & The Shawshank Redemption and The Body. The latter was made into a movie too, Stand by Me, and directed by Rob Reiner. But I was disappointed by the overall story. The novella itself was much more complex and beautiful than the movie. That's why at first I didn't want to watch Shawshank Redemption.
But a friend of mine kept telling me to, so I finally did, and it was a cinematic pleasure of highest kind. It has all that I want from a movie. Ten thumbs up to Frank Darabont who not only boldly changed several important parts of the novella (which was already superb) and convincingly did so without disrupting the main idea of the novella. A definitely must see movie.
Ironically it wasn't popular at all on the screen and CMIIW was directly copied on CDs for rental purposes. It was only after that that the movie made an unprecedented rise in popularity and respect, and now was chosen by imdb viewers as the #1 movie of all time.
PS: And mzk, you meant "that" part didn't you? Of course I know what you mean buddy, and I agree with you. Any man with a healthy amount of testosterone in him must like Monica Belucci :respect:
ON THE ROAD, looks like an awesome flick, and i am also keen to see THE FUTURE with Miranda July (she's also a very good novelist) i think its debuting at the Berlin film festival. Anyone in Germany here?
