congratulations, you thoroughly deserved to win and were better than us all over the pitch
Hopefully this disappointment will be forgotten as we Milanisti cheer for ManU taking the EPL title away from Roman's moneybag squad and the coach who's as arrogant as his nickname.

Where did you find that?

I was surprized I was sure it was his first ever at CL.
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/stats?id=25378&cc=5901

He scored 15 goals this season: 12 in Seria A, 1 in CL. 2 in Italian Cups i guess.

From here, (http://www.uefa.com/competitions/ucl/fixturesresults/round=2360/match=300139/report=mbm.html) though looking at his profile on the site it does seem to be his second. Sorry.

I'll respectfully disagree with you John. It is my belief that this aged team, though in need of a change will be the 2007 CL title winners. I hope you wouldnt mind that happening.
Pretty good huh John? I'm certain you are in the mood to agree at the current moment.

Revenge? How do we get that when we gave the title away?
Rather than "REVENGE", I'd rather call it "Excuse me, could you return what we let you borrow from 2005?" Sounds better no?
I admire your energy, yet I dont think we ought to deal with our rematch as anything that we need to avenge for.

Ok I agree with your assesment. You did base it on the harship of THIS season though did you not? Allow my already fat head to swell a bit will you? LOL!
When I wrote...It is my belief that this aged team, though in need of a change will be the 2007 CL title winners., you have to at least admit at the time, you and a good deal others thought this was not going to happen. Yeah, yeah, yeah... we're not the CHAMPS yet.LOL! I'll say it again...It is my belief that this aged team, though in need of a change will be the 2007 CL title winners. It's not so bold this statement today, but it was bold for me to say so back a couple of months ago no?
My point is changes OR no changes, this club always finds its way to the top. It will do so at its own time. Wondering why we didnt get a certain player, when we will get a certain player, when will he retire is irrelevant. We as fans should enjoy our lives with this club at all times, during the good and bad times. I try everyday to get this through people's head. If I can get one person to see what I'm saying as a good and righteous way to look upon life, I've surpassed my own expectations. Know what I mean?

Zlatanov and SANT, thanks for the kind word, as for Mrki I really dont want to enter in a discussion on why Inter lost their place in the CL for I have a few words for you, imagine playing without Cambiasso and Vieira and only plying with a midfield of Dacourt and Burdisso supported by Zanetti on the right and in front is stankovic, no midfield at all right? But we managed a draw in Mestalla and we almost scored in the last 20 minutes of the game

Today I was an Italy fan, did anyone else than me who noticed a black and blue cup hel up by a man in the stands of Milan after the game ended? What was written on the carton cup?

A great game today, I was skimming through all the pages in this thread and found many were nervous everytime Man only had the ball, they never HAD it, they were never dangerous on goal, so chil out gus and girls of the rossoneri, focus now on finishing the league in at least 4th, and come back in 3 weeks for your revenge match against Liverpool, but I have a dilemma

I LOVE italian football, but I don't love Milan, but I don't want an English team to win the Cl either, the Istanbul game, i was a Liverpool fan in that game, but at that time I was not an Italian football fan, wasn't thinking about it in that sort of way, so what do I do :D

Most probably I will be neutral, so good like for both teams, but I will realy hope that Milan gets the better of the game, but if Liverpool ins, its fine as well :D

Nevetheless, forza Milan, FORZA ITALIA!

"Milan's football was chess with knives, and United were cut to pieces by Gattuso and company"... Finnaly some nice words from English press, you need to really crush them so they realise you are a better team. Its funny how "old players" fast become "really experienced players" when they beat your ass!!!

From ACMILAN.COM:

"MILAN – The team that were finished in Istanbul, the same team that were just too old to be competitive, the one that critics were saying needed a total overhaul. Do you know which team we are talking about? It is the team that has done something great yet again to prove that the critics were wrong all along. That is our team, this is the team that lifted Milan 3-0 Manchester United to the podium of greatness, to stand beside the likes of Milan 5-0 Real Madrid from 1989 and Milan 4-0 Barcelona in 1994. A victory like this isn’t just down to coincidence or luck, Milan’s world class performance was up to a season filled with character building difficulties. On a beautiful day like today we can look back on recent months with a smile and the clarity of 20/20 hindsight vision. We can look back on Milan 0-2 Palermo, Milan 3-4 Inter, Atalanta 2-0 Milan, Milan 1-2 Roma. We can look back on the cold months of October and November. On the Four losses in twenty days. It has been a difficult journey and it was filled with criticisms and hurdles as anyone could see or hear. It seems almost funny now to review it all and see how very wrong the critics were when they predicted that Milan were done. The old adage, don’t fix it if it isn’t broken seems to apply well here. This side was never broken, it never needed to be fixed. All that was needed was a bit of time and a bit of patience for Ancelotti and company to take what seemed like a hopeless situation and turn into pure gold in a way that can only be described as putting on the usual Rossoneri shine. What a trip it has been and we were here to see it all go down as Milan took each hurdle as an opportunity to learn and grow, to get where they are today, more dynamic and even stronger than before. The critics have been left speechless. The experience and history of this side proves that the Rossoneri aren’t just a passing fad, this is a club that has refined its recipe for success down to the last detail.

How ironic it is. The ages of the players. The long contracts. The necessity to change after so many years. The truth is that life and football are full of ups and downs. Those that survive in this game are the ones that know how to handle and learn from the difficulties they face. No one can predict what will happen in Athens, but the Milan that have earned 36 points in the second half of the season and a hard-fought European qualification against the likes of Celtic, Bayern Munich and Manchester United can be proud of what they have done this season and we can be proud too because we never stopped believing in the dream. What a journey it has been, from the point penalty and the resulting Champions League preliminary round up until today. This is the kind of ride of a lifetime that only a side like Milan can deliver as they take their fans along to experience the joy that is can only be called Milan. "

My point is that we should have more faith in the team and the management(not excluding myself). As a matter of fact they`ve given us a lot, probably the best moments of our lives. And if in the future they ask for little patience or faith we are obliged to give them.

First half of Milan was extrordinary !! One of the best plays i've ever seen in my life. We pushed ManU 45mins to their own goal. 2nd half we controlled the game, which is normal when u lead 2-0. And it's normal that you can't keep the pace that Milan was playing in 1st half.
I had criticism on Ancelotti for playing with one striker and Kaka behind one striker, but last CL-games Kaka is really playing as 2nd striker with Seedorf as trequartista. And that's a very good move imo.
Now we play again against L'pool. If we look at our team we must always win that one ... But idem dito 2 years ago ... I hope we'll get our revenge on the reds. I don't believe that they reached the final again with that football ...

After all the complications of the past month im glad its all over, the best team won on the night and much as i would've loved to see Utd with a few decent defenders im not sure it wouldve made much of a difference anyway, there is only so much Rio can do ;)

I do worry about the final though, as i said before the games Utd were tactically a good team for Milan to play, just as Roma had been a good team for Utd to play. With that in mind Liverpool are not a good team for Milan to play, where Utd take risks Liverpool do not. The gaps that Kaka was allowed to drift into will be filled by any number of defensive midfielders (Sissoko, Alonso, Mascherano, Gerrard-o ;) ) and the full backs who happily moved into space left by Giggs and Ronaldo will find Liverpool dont really play wingers, they are more like advanced defenders!

They will happily sit back in the knowledge that if they can stifle Milan and keep it tight they only need to get 1 cross right, becayse if they get 1 cross right then Crouch is unstoppable. He isnt actually that good in the air, but at 6'7'' you dont need to be, and if he doesnt score direct there will be Gerrard prowling for the knockdowns.

I really couldnt bear to see Liverpool win it again, in fact i'd say i have more at stake now than the average Milan fan  Liverpool simply must be stopped, but its not going to be easy.....

Personally, with Shevchenko and Crespo we went into the final 2years back as favourites, and unfortunately lost. However, now we are going as under dogs a bit like Athens in 93/94, this way hopefelly there wont be too much pressure on us.

I am not worried about Milan scoring goals. We craved them inside out and dominated them in 2005. This team is now even more determined to prove a point especially with Kaka, Seedorf and Gatusso looking like they are out of this world. I have no doubt we can easily pop in a few goals.

The problem is with our defense, that robot is very tall and Dida can be very clumsy with high balls. That will be the only concern i have about the team now.

We need to play with the same spirit as against Man U and all will be fine.

"Ronaldo's had a disappointing night and he knows that. But they're young. They'll have seen the professionalism and experience of Milan, which is a good indication of where they've got to get to. But it doesn't just apply to them. It applies to all the players."

I wonder if he means Milan when he says "where they've got to get to"?

what kastriot said, basically.
I just watched the game again and Pirlo, Ambro and Janku are indeed the top 3 for Milan when it comes to length of the distance they covered.
Pirlo had run 11399 m and both Ambro and Janku in the high 10000s.

When Gattuso was subbed, they didn't show those stats for him ... for most of the other subs, they did though - Pippo, for isntance, had covered distance in the high 8000s, I think, when he came off.

what kastriot said, basically.

It`s worth to mention that Kaka run 10050 m. Which is impressive,by any standard

I knew Pirlo ran the most in that match, though still find it a little surprising. It goes to show precisely how hard he actually works for the team.

or maybe at around 15000m they lost count of Rino's stats and that's why they didn't show them when he was coming off. :D

Well done Milan. Must admit, man u r way out of league compare with u guys. Pireloke, no hard feelings. All the best with liverpool.

A: Microchips r embedded in their boots to calculate the distance they move on the pitch?

Or satellite? They love using satellite with all those fancy shows on the pitch these days (like each team logo at the beginning of the game)... is it/

They have a number of cameras pointing to different "zones" of the pitch and then track players throughout the games. The data picked up (such as you can work out the amount a player moves based on him being tracked on camera) is stored and made viewable to those manning the system during the game.

I've actually seen a short video of the system and interface is identical to FM and PES. Like football manager they have a 2D birds eye view of the pitch with dots to represent the players and their movement during a match. The zones which players move around in most is again shown with a 2D image of the pitch with yellow highlighting the areas covered most. The less transparent the yellow is, the area that that player was in most often.

microchips was used in a practice game last yr but not again. its too expensive.

i think its a camera that is at a constant distance from the pitch..it simply measures how much the player moves and multiplies it by the scale.

They used a microchip in the player's boot when they tested it on Freddie Ljunberg a season or two ago ... though at the time i think it was more to do with his boot sponsor (nike/addidas or whoever Ljunberg is signed with) than Arsenal.

I was starting to suspect that they just made those numbers up. Now that i see pirlo's name up there, i'm gonna stick with that theory.

I guess I must be blind or something. I always have this image of gattuso and cafu tearing back at full speed, while pirlo and seedorf do the little trot backwards.

Maybe that trot covers a whole lot of distance . :stupid:

I even knew that Milan would win, only a big accident could make the italian team lose this game

The only english team that can challenge Milan is Liverpool because even if the squad of this english team is weaker than the italian team, Rafael Benitez is a fantastic manager and made Liverpoool's players turn into warriors, the spanish coach just don´t win EPL because he don´t have good players to rotate him squad

But about Manchester United, those players didn´t had any change to beat Milan, Rino, Ambrosini and the others deffenders didn´t let Cristiano Ronaldo play and Seedorf, Kaká and the other attack players rape the deffence of the english team and that was quite easy

lol, Pirlo actually runs a great deal these days. Difference now is the freedom he has to move forward as he has protection of Ambro and Rino rather than just one in the past.

Against Bayern and Man Utd I want to underline how important Ambrosini has been to us. And in the second leg against united, YES, I dare say that Ambrosini was my man of the match, even ahead of Kaka. He was phenomenal, even better than Rino Gattuso (who was in a world of his own as well). He won sooooo many balls and interrupted alot of their attacks and played just so well.

I hope he stays at Milan next season he has been here for more than ten years and only now we finally get to realise how important he is. Forza Ambrosini. My next Milan jersey will have his name on it. Our next captain, Forza Max.
