View Full Version : UCL SF 2nd leg : Milan-Manchester Utd.
Ok, i'll take the risk of being the bad luck in case Milan gets eliminated, but it's not going to happen because Milan will win on Wednesday and go to the finals !
Let me tell you a secret :
Milan was never, i repeat, NEVER, eliminated at San Siro in Champions league.
And we're not talking about 2-3 matches. I'm talking about 11 2nd leg matches played in Milano and Milan always ended up as an overall winner.
If we add last season's group stage match against Schalke, which was also a decider, it makes 12 matches and 12 celebrations at SS.
Bayern, Manchester, Lyon, Ajax, Celtic, Inter, Benfika, Monaco, PSG ..... they all left SS dissapointed.
Ok, it was never a must win situation for Milan, like it is now, but it takes nothing off this incredibille tradition.
3:2
It's a tricky result and it's not a result that often happens in CL.
Till now, since CL birth in 1992, only two first leg matches ended 3:2 in hosts favour.
The first one was back in 2001 when Galatasaray won 3:2 at home against Real Madrid, but they were destroyed in Spain ( 3:0).
The second one happened last year - Werder-Juventus.
The first match ended 3:2 for the hosts and yesterday's match in Manchester was a repetition of that match in Bremen.
Werder took the lead, Juventus scored twice, and then Werder scored 2 late goals, the third one in last minute of the match... exactly the same thing that happened yesterday.
The return leg in Torino was a real shocker. The Germans took the lead, Trezeguet equalised in the second half and the rest is history : Cannavaro screaming Puma, Puma and the Puma scored 2 minutes before the final whistle.
Will Van der sar make a Tim Wisse on Wednesday ?
Yes he will :tong:
Milan will win 2:1.... just wait and see ;)
One more thing before I jet off,
What was the result with Manchester away at Celtic?
Copenhagen?
Lille? I know they won but by a dodgey freekick.
We can do this, I know we can!
Forza Milan!!!

Manchester this season have been at their best when they played at home ... away games just don't seem to be their thing and they often struggle ... especially now when some of their first choice defenders are missing - Evra is out, while Ferdinand and Vidic are almost surely out of the game. park and Saha will probably also miss the game, although Neville may very well make it but doubt he would be in good match fitness.
Milan have to be patient and there is no need to hurry and allow to be caught on the break as 1 away goal by ManU would be acceptable but 2 and more would take things out of control.
The prognosis for Gattuso seems to be good and he is expected to make it for the game at the SS - which is only a week away, not 2 - but I have my doubts about Maldini.
His condition is yet to be evaluated but yesterday Carlo or Galliani said that he went off because his knnee problem had reoccurred and his knee was swallen ... in the past, when that happened he usually needed at least 2 weeks to be match-ready again ...
Bu I guess if we could prepare Kaladze - prefer him over Bonera for his CL experience - we'd be just fine. Also, maybe cafu could play a role in the game - either start or sub Oddo in the second half, so that we have fresh legs vs C. Ronaldo and Giggs.
Hope to have Serginho and Pippo ready for that game :)
Hopefully we will have more positive tactics against United. With a weakened defence I want to see either Serghinio or Oliveira running at them.
Id personally also like to see Cafu over Oddo. Gourcuff needs to be trusted. Against a team like United he could be very useful.
i am not sure about cafu instead of oddo who did a great job closing c. ronaldo.
cafu could get tired in the second half like others, while oddo seems to be fit to play 90minutes against ronaldo
Yes, maybe Cafu can play the last 30 min or so, when we need to attack more, if that was to be the case... But dont think United will stay behind and defend. They will not. Good thing is that Evra is suspended as he combined well with giggs ( he also "combined" well with United's central defenders jumping in their arms while golden boy Kaka' is scoring it...hehe).
We can win it, 1-0 is enough. But we must be carefull and not push too much. It would be nice to win it like against Lyon, a bit stressfull but sweet.... :)
Who is the richest member of MM???? Who ever he/she is, plz send some $ to Dida :googly: and tell him not 2 play in the return leg so he could get more of these $ ;) Ask Dida 2 pretend to be ill or act in way that his head still hurts bcoz of what the GREAT INTER FANS did to him 2 years ago at the San Siro :5ok: He is such a brave person that Carlo will belive him ;) He wont play and Milan will win comftably :5ok:
So we need some $'s here bcoz thats what Dida really wants :bri:
Hurry up, u could play a big part in AC Milan's victory over Man Utd :bri:
Every reason to be optimistic (even if i have had the misfortune of reading the british press) we were in a worse position after the 1st leg with barca last year and also in a worse postition after 1st leg against bayern.
At least is in our own hands.
i am not sure about cafu instead of oddo who did a great job closing c. ronaldo.
cafu could get tired in the second half like others, while oddo seems to be fit to play 90minutes against ronaldo
oddo was woeful GG was covering his a$$ and when he went off oddo was exposed
not true. at least 10 times CR went one-on-one with oddo and lost every time.
GG covered everybody's a$$...after he left we conceded both goals through our left side
Just trying to visualize how 2 away goals will really help Milan
Possible scorelines:
Man U vs ACM
0 - 0 (MU advance)
1 (or more goals) - 0 (MU advance)
0 - 1 (Milan advance on away goals)
0 - 2 (Milan advance 4-3 on aggregate)
1 - 2 (Agg. 4 - 4 Milan advance on away goals)
If Man Utd score more than 1 goal at the San Siro, Milan lose the away goal advantage - at this point it will simply about winning on aggregate.

Again, it's time to unite behind the squad we have. The above comment is probably one of the dumbest ones I've ever read here. WHO would play in goal? Time to stop and think before we post. Not at all amusing....

I'm only commenting b/c of some of the unacceptable posts being made in the other thread about the first leg.

I couldnt agree more with Debs. If dida is out, will u trust our goal 2 kalac? Some f u might think f buffon n others but lets face it. Dida s th best we hv right now. I'm worried about maldini... It's a proof that he s a much better player than a bunch of young players. I think this next game will be all i can think of 4 th next week.
My prediction : Milan 3-1 Man U
Milan will score 2-3 goals first then concede 1. I am pretty certain of this, mark my words. :devf:

I think Ferdinand will play. They might leave that decision to the last minute like they did with Evra. Evra was always going to play, in my opinion.
But Evra's suspension is the worst loss for Utd. He did very well following up when Ronaldo was stopped by Oddo (who was really good).
I would stick with Gila up front, it's so difficult to play up front on your own at Old Trafford. I would pick Oli before Pipo.
There won't be so much hype about Ronaldo, as Man U now have their own tremors having to face Kaka. Btw, please God, don't book Kaka in 2nd leg!
Milan will win, but Utd will score in the San Siro.

I think the key for Milan is controlling the pace of the game. This is so important because they are an older team. If we control the pace in the first half, we shouldn't get as tired in the last 30 mins, and we will be strong at the end.
We have to attack Man Utd, and keep doing so even if we score the first goal. Although usually the Italian way is to organise and defend, when your opponent has suffered as badly as Man Utd have at the back the best form of Defense is Offense.

Milan are still in total control of this tie, and even though the win was better than i dared hope for Utd pregame i still think Milan will progress.
This tie will be decided by the Utd defence, or whats left of it. Both of Milans goals yesterday were preventable, Rio is far quicker off the mark than Heinze and wouldve stopped the first goal, or at least narrowed the angle to leave nothing but VDS to hit. As for the 2nd  how often do you see top level defenders crashing into each other like that? this was a makeshift defence with no great experience of playing together and that goal showed exactly what happens when they dont have a midfield to shield them.
Utd will still be a threat on the break but not half as threatening as they would be with a solid base to rely on, Utd are not good at all at defending leads and as soon as Milan get the breakthrough it will be possession time, with may be a second added on the break. Utds only chance of progressing will be a moment of genius from someone on the break, fortunately there are a few capable of providing it ;)

Football is unpredictable, we should know that by now. But some things are more predictable than others. One of those is the AC Milan from the 2000's giving away leads way too easy. This wouldn't have happened with the late eighties early nineties team, and the tie would have been over at half time. Sadly those times are unlikely to be back any time soon.
I wish we could go through and maybe we will, but for months I have that horrible premonition about the final, I'm not even going to watch the english EPL match in the other semi final but damn I hope Liverpool gets to the final instead of Chelsea that way I know the premonition won't come true.

well guys...i hope everyone of you is right..excpet for MZK...not to be rude but as much as dida pissed me off..id still like to see him in da return leg ..but i dont care wat happens..i just want our strikers to do good...kaka cant run all over the field hopefully pippo is fit..
I honestly don't think Gila will be capable of scoring a goal against ManU. Combine that with his almost stationary role near the middle of the pitch the entire game I have to think Oliviera would be a better option. I don't think that he has any better chance of scoring but at least he'd run back for the ball and maybe wear out a few of their defenders plus he is a much better option on the counter for when we get the early lead. It's one thing to stand there and draw defenders away like Gila did yesterday. It's another thing to command their attention. I think that'll open up more space for Kaka and Seedorf. I have to say, ManU were pretty compact back there. We didn't have much space aside from the flanks and unfortunately we had another horrendous day of crosses.
Prediction, Milan 2 - 1 Man U. They won't be able to keep up the pace as they did at home. Ambrosini is due for a goal as is the not so young Seedorf.
Side note, did anyone else see the Kaka goals as pure brilliance? I especially loved the first. It used his touch, speed and killer goal scoring instinct. That was beautiful to watch especially when watching with a bunch of ManU fans :diablo: The second was classy too though.
Oh yeah and as for Dida. He had a bad game against Bayern in the first leg to turn it around with a great one in the second. I expect no less from him. He makes his share of mistakes nowadays but still pulls out incredible saves from his A$$. If we are to win Dida WILL BE MOTM.

Steza, any news on how the recovery of Ferdinand, Vidic and Neville is going? I guess Neville is more or less certain to make it but there are some controversial reports on the other two.
Stezagud
25-04-2007, 14:57
From what i've read Neville should make it but wont be fully fit, and an unfit Neville may as well not play ;) he usually takes a few games to get back up to speed and Fergie knows that so may leave him out anyway.
Rio is about 70-30 in favour of not making it, he has a chance but since the injury already came back once after rushing him back too quickly vs Boro i dont see them taking a chance again unless they are sure he is 100%. Vidic has no chance, which is a real shame for Utd because not only is he a quality centre back he also is by far our biggest threat on corners and freekicks, and the way Milan have been defending them at times this year he couldve caused havoc
Utds other problem is the squad is stretched so thin by injuries elsewhere too, the defence cant rotate at all, and in midfield the nature of the games coming up (plenty of tough away fixtures in a row) means Fergie cant afford to rest Giggs or Scholes, especially with Park out. Up front Saha is missing too and though Smith and Ole try they dont have Rooneys quality. By the time of the 2nd leg Utds XI will have hardly had a rest in a month because of the chase for the treble, Milan can keep fairly fresh though as the CL is the only trophy to aim for.

If you compare today's semi result with yesterday one, then a Liverpool fan should be more worried than a Milan fan, because obviously a 0-1 loss is worse than a 2-3 loss.
We'll see.

yeah i know, its just Utd play Everton away this weekend and that will be a very tough game vs a team still fighting to secure Europe. I mentioned their strong record vs top teams in another thread somewhere but basically Fergie cant afford to rest many players, if any.
Then next weekend Utd play away in the Manchester derby, they did request for the game to be moved back 1 day to allow the players more time to recuperate but typically City refused it as they want the maximum opportunity to mess up Utds run in  ;)
2 tough away games with not much rest and a trip to the San Siro inbetween, it wouldnt be a problem if we werent still fighting for the league but really that is the priority trophy...
Absolutely boring game between Chelsea and Liverpool today...sloppy
Stezagud
25-04-2007, 16:07
actually it went perfectly for me, i backed under 1.5 goals and Joe Cole to score :D
Liverpool and Chelsea are football machines rather than teams, they dont take great risks and are happy to put on solid, tactical displays that bore the hell out of neutrals. The only way to make their games interesting is to put money on it ;)
Yea, they lost 1-0 and barely had good effords on goal apart from a Gerrard shot which was briliantly saved by Chech. I don't see Liverpool going through with that kind of play, however Chelsea wasn't any better too but they did get a goal. It was a closed and a very defensive game. I think the return leg will end in a boring 0-0.
As for us, yesterday I was mad but today I am relaxed and excited. I can't wait for wednesday's game to come. We have what it takes to beat them at the SS and I think we will. 2-0 for us is what I think it will be with goals comming from Ambrosini and Kaka. :diablo:
It will be very important that we get Gattuso back and even more important is the controll of the midfield. If we do that, then we'll controll the pace of the game and the key player for me will be Pirlo.
The team I want to see will be no different that yesterday's except for Inzaghi in place of Gilarino. In case Maldini doesn't make it then Bonera should do the job.
By the way, I read it somewhere in the thread last night and I looked at it today........Rooney's first goal was a handball. Nesta hit the ball up and it hit Rooney's arm which controlled it. I'm not complaining about it but it makes me sick that the british arrogant media isn't even mentioning it but they are fast to complain that their defense is make-shift or what not. What a bunch of arrogant pricks they are. I also went to a united forum and I can't believe how much that think they are through. They are calling Kaka a **** for thanking god; they are cursing at their own team on half-time but in the end pretty much celebrating making it to the final. I guess they forgot that they have to come to Italy.
All I want to say is, stop all the complaining and fighting about Dida, Gila, Brocchi....etc. Let's not stick down to their arrogant and stupid level but go into the game with optimism. They are optimistic because of the second half, but they are forgetting that they only played like that because we let them.....because we were sitting back. That won't happen in Italy. I'll look forward to reading their arrogant media's articles after they come out of the SS with their heads down.
Their CL is over, they just don'w know it yet. :diablo:
I also hope that our suppoerters will be allowed to support our team the way they know how.

anyways, my money is on Pool making it to the final. I am pretty sure they will offer a very dif display next time ;)
How can you back under 1.5 goals in a game? How on earth do you score half a goal? :googly:
I manage to keep myself awake perfectly well during liverpool matches Zlat ... though it does have some benefits to not having the right tv channels to watch the games :D
It's diappointing but largely typical of Liverpool to beat Barcelona and totally outplay them ... and then lost to the robotics of Chelsea :yuck: Certain teams just show up the shortcomings of the side, Chelsea being one of them.

First of all, congrats Steza on your Joe Cole bet :5ok:
I will not congratulate you on the Under 1.5 bet because half of the betting world was heavy on that outcome :)
@ Zlat : I'm on Chelsea, just like i was before the 1st leg. Pool will come out attacking like crazy at Anfield. No other team can survive that but Chelsea can. Not only they have top quality everywhere, and they'll welcome back Essien and probably Ballack, but psychologically they are the strongest team in the world.
Only such team can survive Anfield in a CL semifinal.
Just look at them what are they doing for whole season long. How many decisive goals they scored in last 5 minutes in EPL or the cup.... how they were a goal down on all 4 ( 1/8 and 1/4 finals) matches and how they always managed to save themselves. It's not luck like some ManU or Pool fan may say, it's psychology and extra quality.
That crazy Drogba will find a way to score or assist again, and it will be enough. Pool won't score 3 goals !
How can you back under 1.5 goals in a game? How on earth do you score half a goal? :googly:
If you're serious.....
that's the way some bookies use in describing the "0 or 1 goals" option.
Under 1.5 means you win only if there's one goal scored or if the final score is 0:0.
And if you find this hard to understand, then i can only imagine how hard it will be for you to find an explanation what the hell does "Under 1.25" or "Over 1.75 goals" means :grinser:
Tony, betting is like a foreign language to me ... it's something i've never done and something i don't have much interest in ... you might aswell be speaking Mandarin to me.
Though i understood your explanation of 'under 1.5' ... i'm not totally stupid ... though no doubt many here believe i am.
@nefremo: people curse the players when they lost and never jump on the players (except, obviously G*la & D*da) when Milan wins. It's everywhere.
To all the people who criticised Dida - he was the reason we won our last CL trophy. nuff said.

Lemme disagree with you on the robotics part.
Chelski was a much better side at the Stamford bridge today (still day here).
They play an athletic game, a different game from Milan but quite a quality football as far as I can see. They play well in the middle and in defence, they have DD upfront. They do not seem to get fatigue at all, except for Sheva who I suspect is refuse to take the drug that everyone else in Premiership takes. Drogba was the man today if you ask me, he created the goal, created other chances too. Especially I liked his half-volley back-flick in the path of Lampard. Lamp pulled a nice volley shot that the keeper saved miracleously. I am dying to see Milan - Chelski in Athens. I would hate any other final fixture...

He barely touched the ball. When he touched it (few times) he failed to connect and lost the ball. Nothing was going for him, it looked like he was mostly hassling the defenders up front (getting tired early). i saw he was at the front doing that most of the time. he got into offside 3 times.
Most of the time the ball was going not to him but to D.Drogba and you know how those guys like to pass, so he got none of those, especially from Lamp.
I cannot stand that type of play - ready, set, shoot! regardless of the other opportunities available and the distance to the goal.

yeah.. i kinda feel his teammates don't really appreciate him.. in Chelsea Sheva rarely gets to net what someone else created for him, most of the goals he created with his own effort....
p.s. i am originaly from Rivne, for the last 3 years i've been in Lithuania
Thanks to Gila and Brocchi, that may have been Maldini's last game. I'm not including Dida because he just came back from an injury. If that's how Paolo's glorious career ends (being subbed off for injury in the semifinals of CL), I'll have a hard time forgiving them, even though I will eventually. Especially Brocchi, at least he tried and did his best. But this would be such a bitter end for such a glowing legend. He was flawless when he did play. And he has been faithful and inspirational for 20 years, and now....having his hardwork and dream blown apart by the incompetence of his own teammates. It must have been terrible for some other players who have given their all and played flawlessly - Nesta, Kaka and Rino + co. It must have hurt like hell to watch their own teammates throw their efforts down the toilet. I know it must stink for others too, but it's pretty much their own fault.
Now, I hope we will redeem ourselves in the return leg. We MUST. We cannot have Maldini's career end like this. That would be a travesty of the highest order.
Anyway, this is the first time my frustration with certain players has boiled over. And I'm already feeling a lot better and more positive. It's likely that I won't be feeling this crappy in a long time (or so I hope). I hope you guys don't mind my ranting. I just really really need to vent. I'm not negative or fickle. I love Milan, which is why this stings so much.

come on, there's a 2nd leg at San Siro next Wednesday. It's football, everything can happen, especially when you play the strongest team in Europe (that's what Eurosport said about MU)
anyway, the result is measured by the 2 games!

LOL so if this is how people are after a 3-2 loss AWAY to Man Uwith a second leg AT HOME still to be played, can anyone enlighten me as to how the forums were after Istanbul/Deportivo ? I've honestly been dying to know.

Yeah well. But from experience, Milan fans tend to overreact a bit. All hell broke loose after Istanbul & many hearts were completely shattered.
In any caes, I realize that we've got a chance. We just need to take it. (At least I'm not like my friend, who broke down and started crying in class after I told her about Rooney's goal, which probably made me more worried and hysterical than I should be)
I mean, this is Milan. We can bring magic. :devf: :diablo: :5ok: :pp20:

It is beyond my comprehension why the team that played on Tuesday will have to play on Wednesday next week, while the other tie will have two-day shorter break between their games. In England and Italy, and in Spain for that mater, there is usually another championship game has to be held on the weekend.
UEFA puzzles me every year when these sort of thing happen, and these schedules are not unusual, it happens every year in 1/4's and in the semis.
Well, as if there is a market (revenue) difference between Tue's and Wed's, i dunno.
guys, plz, don't even start me on Istanbul...
the thrill goes through my body from the very word...
lets talk how Milan beat Manchester during their pervious CL clash?
:firedev: :3band: :3band:  :firedev: :dcool:
It is for sure Milan will play a 4-3-1-2 at SS, meaning that we need 2 forwards. Maybe...just maybe.....if RO given this opportunity then he miht score as nobody expect that Carletto would field RO...moreover MU players don't know exactly how RO would play upfront.
Why 4-3-1-2....because Berlusconi did mention that and I remeber Joe Jordan, a former Rossoneri had mentioned it before the MU - Milan game got started.
So, would it likely be this formation ??
dida
Oddo Nest Maldini Jankulowski
Gatusso Pirlo Seedorf
Kaka
Pippo/Gila Oliveira
Subs : Cafu for Oddo, Serginho/Kakha for Janku, Ambro for Pirlo/Seedorf, and whoelse.... ??
Above all, Milan will win the second leg at SS, no doubt about it and I shall put my money on Milan !!!!
So, would it likely be this formation ??

Oddo Nest Maldini Jankulowski
Gatusso Pirlo Seedorf
Kaka
Pippo/Gila Oliveira
Right! If we can sneak in 12 players to the field - there'll be no trouble claiming victory!
:3band: :3band:
2 forwards might be a good idea, but we don't have the forwards to pick. Inzaghi and Gilardino won't work as we've seen in the past, and I really don't think that a second leg CL semi-final is the game where we should be expecting Oliveira to have a great game. I surely wouldn't risk it, and I don't think Carlo will as well.
I wouldn't mind seeing the same line up that we played with in England. The only difference is Inzaghi in place of Gilardino and make Oddo and Jankulovski get up those wings. We need to make their defence warry about the sides and not just the middle. When our backs push up, they will stretch their midfield as well. Their CM's will have to drift out wide and help out on the wings which will automatically leave more space in the middle. We didn't do that on Tuesday because our backs were so concerned about their wings.
One thing is for sure, next week I am sure we will play to our strengths and not be so concerned about theirs. And if we do that, then I am sure that we will progress.

i agree with u nefremo...inzaghi needs to play instead of gila....then bring on gila later in da game...but id like to see sergihnio somewhere in there...ive watched lastyears clips over and over again..and serighino combines really well with inzaghi...serighino providing crosses and inzaghi doing what he does best...heading it in....ive also noticed we havent used our crosses from the flanks....like we do in domestic champions for example ronaldos two goals were both from cafus crosses..but i kno we willl FROZA MILAN!!
Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic could make a shock return in the Champions League semi-final, second leg against AC Milan next week after recovering quicker than expected from a shoulder injury suffered in March. (The Sun)

Man they can have whoever they want back..........they can put Ferguson himself on too if they want. They can even play with 20 players on the field.......nothing will stop us from making the final!!!!!!!!!

Lads - get a grip on yourselves - I know you're all Milan nutters/fanatics but be sensible here...Utd's young and vibrant attack will cut your defence to shreds. The 3rd goal on Tuesday was so important that I believe it is what has won the semi final for the reds. Man U will go to Milan with no fear now and knowing that they put 3 past you last week. The fact that every match Utd have played in the last 6 weeks has been crucial reagrding the League/Cup and CL makes Utd a very very strong unit.

One difference : they're no longer playing in the theatre of dreams, but the theatre of Nightmares this time, and the true Devil rules there, not the fake ones from England. I don't care if we have to shoot the ball into the goal with a Sturmpanzer IV but we will have to pass this turn to annihilate the Istanbul injustice. Nothing personal but it is our mission, and then I can die happy. See? The meds are working!
btw, what about Cafu?
how come he didn't play? will he?

I actually think Kaka's 2nd goal was much much more important. That was the goal that threw the tie wide open.
Rooney's goal still doesn't change the fact that a 1-0 will be enough for us. Kaka's goal has put us in a very good position. I think Kaka's 2nd goal will come back to haunt Man U.
oh no
Day after the match I have a very important assignment to hand in, kinda screws me up i guess.
I know if we go through to the final, I will ace that assignment.

Nefremo,
Our one worry if Oddo and Jankulovski are to get forward is protection at the back. Giggs and Ronaldo would terrorise from the wings. We obviously need to score, so I can see us bombing the LB and RB forward at some points during the match, but as a prolonged tactic I cannot see it. I do agree though that it is Pippo who should play.

As for the most important goal...of course, all are important, but Kaka's second was the most important. That goal meant that if we score 2 at home, we're most likely going through - I don't see Man Utd scoring 2 goals at the San Siro. I am a Rossoneri, so of course I wish for Milan to progress, but that Rooney goal might just make the second leg more exciting from a neutrals standpoint. Had we secured a 2-2 draw, we would have been much more negative in the second leg. Now we must score, we can't rest on our laurels.
Reddevil,
It's nice to hear the Milan fans behaved in a grown up fashion. All violent fans achieve in European Football is having their team banned from the competition. If Man Utd advances, I would want them to win it all, historically they have the most English/British players in the team, and they also look to spend their big money on English talent (Rio, Rooney £50m+ combined). I like that. I also admire how they are fighting on three fronts with a depleted squad.
huuh, let's just say you don't want to :D
was it worse than forzainter.com after euro-derby?? :devf:
at Old Trafford, before maldini and gattuso out, we could control the game and even lead 2-1

I couldn't bring myself to post in the 1st leg thread, many of you know why...I hope we can all stay civil in this one. And keep those wonderful, smart posts coming. :bri:
Mrki, are we both going on the greasy HAIR-WATCH again? I'm starting to beleive in my theory of 20 percent of the game depending on the awesomnness of our hairstyling. Gila was absent in the game...because he's shaved it all off. Silly Alberto. Maldini was subbed at half time, off went the legendary hair...in came Rooney's double. Ricardo had great hair and thus, had a great...no, absolutely breathtaking touch. Nesta? Half of his tackles should be credited to his long locks. The Original Ronnie's getting better and better, because he's growing his out. Rino? His FACIAL HAIR is like another set of legs. :grinser:
See what I mean ppl? I don't have the brain to analyse and talk about tactics, but I do know what a reasonable dollop of styling mousse and a good hairband can do for a team. So I'm hoping the San Siro hairdryers are working properly on Wednesday.
I hope we've learned about this horrible weakness of being unable to maintain leads. We keep learning the same lesson over and over again, and now it's time to take the game to United. They played fantastic, and now at home, on our own turf..we need to do the same. Istanbul sucked, yeah it hurts, so SHAKE IT OFF. It's been almost two years. Let's kill the ghosts once and for all so I never have to hear another fan or player moan about it. I have faith in THIS team...in Dida not Buffon, in Ricky, Seedorf and Pirlo not Ronaldinho, or whoever else we should have bought. I'm not living on the dream of next year's UCL with Ronaldo, but the present. Forza Milan and Forza Ragazzi! Every single one of them, yes...even the medical staff.

Haha CC, I think you're on to something with the hair...alternatively, what do you make of Man Utd players' hair? I don't think much to Fake Ronaldo's cut, Scholes is ginger, Van Der Sar is very plain, Wes Brown has weird coloured hair...add Gary Neville, aside from looking like T-bag from Prison Break, hardly has an inspiring hair cut...Rooney also, very plain. Ryan Giggs has some good chest hair - remember seeing that after his fantastic goal against Arsenal a few years back? Surely worth an extra yard or two of pace...Carrick, very plain....
You're right about Ista****. We need to put it out of our minds, but I think in order for us to do this, we need some success. We've not won anything since then, so it will fester. Hopefully we can win the CL and put all the ghosts to bed.

True, a lot of Utd have very plain boring styles, probably because Fergies famous hairdryer treatment isnt so bad if you've got a crewcut! Heinze is the obvious exception, he is such a tough guy that he probably enjoys it when Fergie throws teacups at them  and then there's the other nutcase, Alan Smith, who looks a bit like someone from Clockwork Orange, in fact we are probably saving him for the second leg in case we need a bit of the old 'ultra violence' ;)

Yes it will be a risk, but it is something we must do. And whenever Oddo and Janku get forward, Ambro and Gattuso can hold back and watch things. Because we really don't profit from Gattuso going forward that much. Ambro is a force on crosses so we need him to push up, but only when one of Janku or Oddo pushes up. Other then that, he wouldn't help much with other attacks.

I am feeling very confindent right now and I don't think they'll score at the SS, but we have to score at least 1.
Our defense this season so far, has let us down consistently...well, let me put it this way: I have no faith in Dida et al, to keep Man U from scoring, and when Ronaldo99 doesnt play, we cant seem to buy goals...
So, even though I have $2000 on Milan to win the tie on aggregate, I am willing to wager that we go out at home...Dida is just not good enough (read consistent enough) at this level, to guarantee a shut-out, and pessimisim has reared its ugly head (or maybe its just my blood pressure going thru the roof) :grinser: as I debate our chances in the home leg.
Further, Maldini prob wont make it thru the entire match, so we will "waste" a sub on him...leaving us with only 2 options, and our bench, which might be a tad better than what Man U has to offer, doesnt have the necessary quality to be a real exchange of "like for like"
Many of you will be surprised, but I also felt that we would go out in Bayern, so maybe this is the sort of feeling I need to have so that we can advance.

Just read on channel4.com that Juventini won't let Buffon go to the Merda but have no objection if he join Milan.
Also that Milan prepare to give BP25M + Abbiati to Juve. If this happen then Dida or Kalac will leave Milan?? Likely Dida as he has higher salary than Kalac??
The next mercato will be very interesting to follow though. For sure there will be lots of surprises.
Something that I watch on Dida's face everytime he play is that he looks very nervous and not just calm like the way it should for a GK.
Only time will proof how things will happen at Milanello next season.....
Just hope as many of us expect on Dida....please show your talent and cancel every possible goal from MU next Wednesday to bring Milan go to Athens.........amen.

Guys let's not get too apprehensive over Dida, he didn't have a great game in the last match because he made mistakes on the goals, but at the same time, he made some great saves in that match.
If we have to rely on Dida that much, then for me there's a problem elsewhere in the side, because a goalkeeper shouldn't be winning us matches. However, in the same respect, I also felt Man U were little threat until our injuries came about, after which we dropped off and struggled.
Point being, Dida isn't why we lost that match (though he is one of protagonists), but rather I'd say the circumstances and their effect lost the match.
Should Rino and Maldini be out of the second leg, I feel we still have a fair chance. Should one of them be back, I feel confident in our chances. Should both be back, I feel certain we'll be through.

It is true that not all the fault can be placed at the feet of Dida for losing at Old Trafford. He did make some saves along with his blunders...it's just that other than Brocchi, no one stood out as making a mistake, so of course Dida will get criticism...I still believe he's a good keeper and i'd be surprised if the defense AS A WHOLE shipped more than one goal at the San Siro.

Nadir, its simply this: Dida is inconsistent...the first set piece of the game, he is poorly positioned...then he makes a string of good saves, then allows yet another goal past his near post...his near post..the one he should be guarding....:rollani:
And this for me is the issue...when Bierhoff was heading every cross in for a goal, I tolerated him, but when he started to miss chance after chance after chance, it was time for him to go, and I lost faith in him.
Dida is approaching this point for me. You are only as good as your last game, and regardless of the saves he made (and yes, I fully agree that he did make some good ones), he conceded some howlers, and this is why my faith in him is lacking.
Its ridiculous to say that because I have no faith in Dida, I have no faith in the team...I have faith in Kaka to score, or create chances, Seedorf to do the same, Oliveira to miss sitters, and Pippo to be offside at least 4 times per half, and to score as well...but I also have "faith" that Dida will concede at least one goal from a set piece, from poor positioning, or both.
That Bayern didnt score in the San Siro is due more to woeful finishing, than Dida´s marshalling of our net...as they did have several good opportunities, if not sitters.
And if I am pessimistic bro, its because I get too carried away for my own physical/mental health, and so I have to be pragmatic in my outlook for this, and any other UCL game we may have for the rest of the season. I know myself, I am after all, a grown man, who knows his strengths and weaknesses...and because I want to live to at least see my grandkids, I prefer to have a pessimistic outlook, because then, if we win, I can be pleasantly surprised, but if we loose, I wont be that disappointed.
And if I cant come here and express myself, share my angst with my fellow fans, a lot of whom feel that way, but maybe of a different mindset to mine, ie not take the games as all-important facets of one´s life, then they can afford to be optimistic.
Yet, having said all that, I am a member of the Sunshine club...the crew here that always tries to put a positive spin on things...but again, I know myself, and know what I must do when my gut tightens, my appetite is lost, I start to have a nervous leg movement....and feel like my blood pressure is about to rupture an artery in my head.
good posts from both RIO and Warro
I will summarize by saying that Dida is inconsistent but I have faith in him
I believe that the second piece is more powerful, so we will do it

There's nothing new about the scapegoating of Dida. That goes back to January of last season.

Anyways...about the match, I think we've a great chance of going through if we don't sit back like we usually do against top opposition after we score, given that we're going to have a lot of pace upfront I'd say that RO is a much better option than Gilardino and maybe he can tire United defenders a little bit more as well.
Hopefully Dida will have a brilliant (or at least a good one) performance and our defence won't have any lapses in concentration, Cafu could be the key on our right flank in the last 20 - 30 minutes, and any news on Serginho situation?
Like in the 1st leg I'm not expecting tooooo much from our beloved team (Like a trashing result), but I just want a committed performance without too many or none mistakes at all because I don't wanna get disappointed again because of a silly mistake in the last minutes or just bad positioning from our players :)
I really hope Kaká and Pirlo will both get a nice rest against Torino, especially Pirlo who did some pretty poor passes in the first leg (but that pass to Kaká in the 2nd half was brill :D)
Btw ...taken from SkySports (top stuff :5ok:)
France legend Zinedine Zidane has revealed his admiration for Milan playmaker Gourcuff.
"Gourcuff is one of the players who are progressing, who are performing well," Zidane said on his personal website.
"We can see in the games that he has a lot of qualities, he is clever and plays well with the ball. It is a pleasure to watch him.
"He will learn in Italy. He is young, very young. Being part of such a team, with those players can only be a plus.
"I think that he has his head on his shoulders, which is the best thing."

Carlo has zero faith in Oliveira unfortunately. I think we will see Pippo up front and Gila coming in late in the game. I for one do not want two strikers and would rather Ambrosini play. Ambrosini is more dangerous, more effective, plays for the team more than Gilardino by a million times. We need him.
-------------- DIDA ---------------
ODDO - NESTA - MALDINI - JANKU -
GATTUSO --- PIRLO ----- AMBROSINI
----- KAKA ------------ SEEDORF---
-------------- PIPPO ---------------
I think we'll need Serginho and Cafu at some point. Maybe even Oliveira. Or if he's injured Aubemyang, or if he's injured bring in Christian Maldini, just no Gila.

Forza Milan...Althought ac milan was lose from MU, we believed that Mr. Carlo Ancelotti never give up to face MU in second leg.
"Rino" gattuso, Maldini, Pirlo, and Kaka' will struggle to reach the Final.
They will revenge to meet Liverpool on Final.
All the fans should come with the big posters written 5-0.This is to revange the defeat of As Roma to an Italian club.It will motivate the players to score many goals.Another thing is about the corners one players should stand near to 18 box last match the corners were dangers to our team.Secondly we lost many balls from Dida coz Gilardino was alone to peak the ball lets look for a better way notlose from goalkeeper .Thirdly the substitute it was wrong to take out Gilardino he has to stay up to the end

After watched the game of Man utd vs Milan, i must admit the the english league and english team are the best in the european.
when the milan led 2:1, i saw the same problem where Milan led Livepool 3:0 at 1st half of UL final two years ago, Milan fear to lose even when it is leading, and result is lose of course.
No doubt english team is playing with joyful, they always fight until end and never give up.
Latest on pippo in the papers:
AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi has recovered from a thigh injury and could return to the starting line-up for the Champions League semi-final second leg clash against Manchester United next week. (The Times)
Hopefully its true, I think Gilla needs a rest.

don't you think it had more to do with Milan losing in the middle of the game Maldini and Gattuso, two of the most important players in this squad and the rest of the team had to readjust to this change on short notice ...

but you also could say the only reason you had a lead to lose was because Rio and Vidic were injured, swings and round-abouts
Did anyone actually noticed that in the second half Milan lacked THREE first team players in MAldini,Gattuso and Serginho.... And we dont count cup tied Ronaldo. Those are all slim excuses, teams have 25 players!
SAF is resting C.Ronaldo against Everton. He's not in the starting XI.
The others are playing :
VDS ; O'Shea-Brown-Heinze-Evra ;Carrick- Scholes-Giggs-Solskjaer; Smith-Rooney.
Richardson is also a bencher so i guess he may be ok for the match on Wednesday !

Serginho isnt a regular starter, and at least the other 2 played half a game, the 30 minutes without them Milan barely left their own half and conceded 2 so obviously it made a difference ;)
Utd were actually missing 3 of the usual back four for the entire game, if Milan had turned up at Old Trafford without, Nesta, Maldini and Oddo do you think nobody here would mention they were missing a few defenders? Of course they would!, and they would be right to because defensive stability is absolutely vital in a champions league semi!
Utds defence has been brilliant all season long and the entire defence made the EPL team of the season, thats near unprecedented and shows just how well they work as a unit. When the draw was made i made Utd slight favourites (we were only missing Vidic at that stage) but with hindsight i now honestly believe Utd would be taking a 2 or 3 goal lead to the San Siro if Milan had faced the full side, and i say that as a fan of both clubs with a decent knowledge of both.

Id expect Richardson will come on for Giggs fairly soon after half time if Utd have managed to secure the game by then(which is unlikely) Ronaldo will most likely be dragged into action too.
Man United decided to rest Ronalso and give OGS a try, now they are 1-Nil down.
Hopefully this should knock them if chelsea catch up with them
EDIT: Ronaldo warming up now
Chelsea 1-0 down.... :)

the first goal, doubt it but the second goal would have probably been avoided.
The thing is that ManU knew they would be absent and the whole gameplan/approach to the game ManU had planned was based on that and the players didn't have to adjust to losing important players in the middle of the game.
Also, Milan was always gonna have a more conservative approach at OT and thus the loss of a defender would not be felt as heavily as it would have if the game was at the SS ... and in a similar way, the loss of CR and/or Giggs and/or Rooney would have been worse for ManU for their home game since it's namely the attacking and midfield department that would be expected to play a more important role in a home game when the opposing team would not be over-committing it's players in attack but would mostly try to contain the opponent in midfield and defense.

not necessarily true.
part of the reason why ManU pushed so hard was that Milan were leading 1-2 at the break and at that point for ManU the game entered "damage control" mode.
If you theory about ManU's defense is right the result could have been 0-0, 1-0 for ManU or something of the kind hence ManU may have very well taken a much more cautious approach for the rest of the game given that this isn't one of those EPL games where away goals make no dif but CL and away goals here, at this stage, are quite often the deciding factor in a tie.
2-0 Ferguson doesn't look happy, still no sign of Ronaldo
Hold up its 2-1
2:2 now , the same result on Chelsea-Bolton
2-2 in both games...this'll be interesting
Ronaldo missed one on one !
It would have been all over.
Chelsea draw..a win for Man U would put them 5 points clear.
That's it
Chelsea-Bolton 2:2 FT
Everton-Manchester United 2:4 FT ( Eagles scored in last minute)
Unbelievable comeback for ManU after Ronaldo entered the match.
Congrats Stez ;)
I dont see how Ronaldo influenced the match?
Good game tho, Man United should have the title by this time next week.
I dont see how Ronaldo influenced the match?
He didn't score and made only one assist but it was a different ManU from the moment he came in. They started attacking and he was in the center of every single action !
Compare the way the played with Solskjaer and the way they played with CR7. Then you'll see how he made the difference.
ManU wouldn't have won this without CR7 , i'm sure about that.

Thanks Tony, though its not done yet, Man City wont make it easy and obviously Chelsea away will be tough too. I hope its over before the last day vs West Ham though, i still have nightmares about what those b*****ds did in 1995 :D
Ronaldo wasnt rested for Milan specifically either, he was carrying an injury and kept on the bench only to be used as a last resort. They said if he made his injury worse he could miss 2-3 games which would be the main Premiership run in as well as the Milan game
A very strange game as Everton set themselves up not to to score and ended up taking a 2 goal lead anyway  Ronaldo didnt change the game alone, the way Everton were playing they were always going to become extremely nervous if they conceded and O Shea's goal was what shook them up. Its no coincidence that they panicked on the next corner too. As soon as we scored 1 i told my brother we'd win this

There is no defender that can play Ronaldo 1 v 1 either, but like Kaka he can be stopped by an organised defence. As you can see clearly from the 2nd goal, Utds defence was not organised, they have barely played together as a 4. There was a lot of indecision from them today also, diving in for tackles they cant win, backing off when they should close down etc Its simply because they arent aware of where each other are positionally.
one of Rio or Vidic may play but wont be match fit, we need them badly though, even at 70% they will do better than the defence that played at Everton today, that backline could easily concede 4 or 5 at the San Siro....
And suggesting Serginho is a starter is just plain wrong, who's place do you suggest this near 35 year old would take? He averages 20 appearances a year and a large number of them are coming on as a sub!
Moaning about missing him is like Utd moaning about missing Park, in fact Park is probably more of a Utd regular and had 5 Prem goals to his name despite 2 serious ankle injuries this year. The simple fact though is neither affect much except for weakening options from the bench..
This 35 year old LB played whole last season in a perfect shape and played superb matches in the CL and in serie a. Jankulovski never had a chance to play in front of him. Even at this age Sergio is still on of the fastest fullbacks in the world when he is fit. Unfortunately, he is not fit...
How can you compare Serginho's influence in Milan with Park's in United?? And the question is now....have you been watching Milan at all??

Janku took time to settle in his first year, and Serginho had a good year but it was very much the exception to the rule since he came to Milan and was certainly helped by Janku's injuries and form. As you point out, Serginho is still fast when fit, but he is injured, which is what happens to older players. At his age he is only going to get more injury prone and less likely to feature regularly for Milan. While Jankulowski is now much more settled, a regular and in his prime.
How can you compare Serginho's influence in Milan with Park's in United?? And the question is now....have you been watching Milan at all??
well to be honest i havent seen any of Serginho's 3 appearances this year ;)
As for comparing him with Park, Park made more league appreances for Utd than Serginho did for Milan last year, and that was Serginho's best season in a Milan shirt! Park was out for 3 months at the start of this year, and is out injured (possibly for a year  ) now, but in between the 2 injuries he played in almost every game, scoring 5 goals in 14 games. That is a very good rate for a midfielder and he had showed the invaluable knack of being in the right place at the right time. His style of play is far better suited to the more fluid, Ruud-less style of Utd this season and its a shame he didnt get to contribute more..
Yeah, Serginho was a starter for Milan.
But Stez is right Marko. You can't reallt count him as a missing on ManU-Milan because he wasn't injured for this match and if he was the best option for LB i think he would have played !
You can count Pippo ( although i wouldn't have done so because he's more of a bench player this year) , Gattuso and Maldini, but not Serginho.
You can't say Milan missed the Serginho of passed years. It's like saying Milan missed Costacurta !
Sergio was there, not injured and available, so he wasn't a missing. He was just a second choice LB option !

I think someone mentioned that Serginho was not fit for the ManU game - had gotten a problem in one of the training sessions before the game, I guess - and Carlo's mentioning that he is finally among the fit players for the game vs Torino supports that.
As for why he wasn't played, I am sure he wouldn't have started the game even if he hadn't picked up that injury ... the reason for that however is most probably in him missing most of the season due to that back injury of his and started training only a month and a half ago - hardly enough time to make up for not being able to train/play since June or July of last year.
:devf: With an on-form Dida (from the bayern match), we will leave the OT with a clean sheet. No point making so much assumptions here and there. Forget it. We won the UCL in 2003 with sheva injuried for most of the season, we reached the UCL final 2 years ago without sheva too. But we went out of the UCL when Sheva is fit and playing and is the top scorer in UCL, does it mean Sheva is useless to us? If football is a mathematical system then why do we even play it? Just look at the squad names at the start of the season and award the titles.

honestly... the first goal, as brilliant as it was, was largely down to heinze's lack of pace, rio wouldn't have had as much trouble getting back, not saying Kaka wouldn't have scored but you get the drift.
No matter how long you have to prepare for it losing players of the calibre of Maldini, gatusso, Rio, Vidic is going to have a huge effect on a team, I would say the losses you suffered evened it up rather than putting you at a disadvantage.

Actually i sort of agreed with Tyldesley on that, it really annoys me when the pundits exagerate the names of players and clubs in order to sound like they know what they're talking about. The way they were saying Dida last tuesday (DeeeDarrrrrrr ) was irritating and even started distracting me from the actual match! ;)
I've always been respectable of this man and his 'commentary'
Oh dear oh dear my poor little assistant coach ... you have alot to learn about ITV commentators. Now repeat after me,
Clive Tyldesley is a man utd buttock licking brown noser!
His commentaries are rubbish and whatever the game, there are references to Man Utd in it. He's so far up Ferguson's backside he can see daylight when the whiskey nosed manager opens his mouth! He makes me sick. Andy Townsend is another one, Man Utd are amazing i back them everytime ... he's even got to the stage now where no matter who the opposition he'll back the English team. Case in point Spurs v Sevilla, where he backed Spurs to win quite comfortably even though they were losing. Rubbish player, rubbish 'analyst'. Even staunch Liverpool man Mark Lawrenson on the BBC is becoming a Man Utd psycophant.
I think the other commentator (peter drury i think) is ok for now, no doubt he'll move to the dark side and show nauseating bias in his commentary for one particular team and come up with inane comments like the 'Jankulovski waking up in cold sweats' throw off.
As for 'Deeedaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa' and all those completely ridiculous over pronounciations, man give me a bucket so i can chuck up and then throw it over Tyledsley's head. Utter garbage. It's the same with 'Drogbaaaaaaaaaaa' or Alves becoming 'Alvesh' and numerous others. David Pleat (he probably can't pronounce his own name properly anymore) is the worst, Tyledsley, Motson, et al are almost as bad. Speaking of which, if you happen to catch former Aston Villa boss John Gregory commentating (sometimes on ch5) you're in for a treat. He sounds like an action hero now with a deep gravelly over dramatic voice, it's ace! :grinser:
All i want is fair commentary, if a player does something rubbish say it's rubbish and don't sugar coat it, and a commentator/co-commentator who knows their stuff about the opposition. Instead of clingers on like Andy Townsend & Robbie Earle  , why not get almost a specialist in the field of Italian/German/Spanish/French football? Someone who watches a particular league all the time, knows the teams and what the players are capable of. It would be so much better than listening to faux-analysts who don't really have a clue who's who and just make it up. Plus i shouldn't have to put the match on mute to get rid of the commentary, i want to be able to hear the crowd, etc.
If i had it on mute i never would have heard the deafening roar from the San Siro when we beat Lyon last year in the CL. The crowd were monserous in their vocality, so much so that when they cut to Gabby Logan in her little san siro studio, the camera was shaking from all the vibrations of noise and feet stamping ... plus you could hardly hear her over the din, it was a magnificent image :proud:

that really is letting off some steam Jim :D
The brown nosing of Utd never seems that apparent to me, they undoubtedly favour the English teams but thats to be expected of English broadcasters with an English audience. Utd get more praise simply because they play better football than the machines of Liverpool and Chelsea, Arsenal always get more praise than them too but as they are out nobody talks about them ;)
The commentators are largely idiots though, you are certainly right about that. The funniest thing in the Utd-Milan game was at 1-0 when Pleat said something like "there will surely be more goals because of all the quality attacking players Utd have" a minute later Kaka equalised and he said "see, like i was saying, more goals because of the quality attacking players....erm, both teams have.." :dielaugh:
They really do need to find more knowledgable pundits from somewhere, it really isnt that difficult to keep up to date with European football, especially if your being paid to do so!

I think we will go through.
United played a better first leg, esp in the second half, but the return leg in San Siro will be a different matter.
sometimes i just mute the volume when i watch those games. :)
i watch ppstream with cantonese commentary. :5ok:
These commentators are more knowledgeable and doesn't take sides.

:5ok: The only reason why I never mute Milan games- Curva sud! the best crowd in the world! Have you seen Old Trafford 20 minutes before the match was half empty?!! I went into the San Siro on Milan-Inter and Curva was full 2 hours before the kick off.... :devf:
We will need big help from the crowd, unfortunately I didnt get the tickets so I will not be in to help Milan. I'll just have to scream in front of the TV.

Oh dear oh dear my poor little assistant coach ... you have alot to learn about ITV commentators. Now repeat after me,
Clive Tyldesley is a man utd buttock licking brown noser!
But that's not very nice Mister Jim, I mean, we're supposed to be professionals, represent the class of Milan and stuff...oh hell.
*adjusts mike*
Clive Tyldesley is a Man. Utd buttock licking brown noser! Thank you.
I can't bring myself to watch Milan games on mute for the very same reason Jim and Mrki mentioned, the CURVA MAN! I still remember that Lyon game. And more recently the first derby in October, especially in the second half... that was a rocking atmosphere! We're gonna need them on Wednesday, that's for sure. I have a feeling the curva might have something planned that touches on Istanbul...

Pippo Inzaghi is polishing his scoring boots for Wednesday’s semi-final against Manchester United, as he seems certain to push Alberto Gilardino on to the bench.
I feel ready and am in good shape,” said the Milan striker. He is the best Italian scorer in Champions League history with 40 goals in 67 games – 56 in European competition overall – and netted a crucial strike in the 2-0 quarter-final victory at Bayern Munich

Now it's gonna be a hot night tomorrow.
I think we should prefer Pippo over Gilardino as Inzaghi has been great in the Champions Leaque so far.
If we play with full concentration like we did the first half in Manchester and don't concede any stupid goals like in Manchester we WILL go through.
Forza Milan.

Do you and your little rats from Manchester ever stop? When do you see Milan fans flooding your forums?
Fair enough you won at Old Trafford get over it:

You understand? You played teams that were battling relegations and you played at home. Only respectable result you got was against Everton, and the reason for that was because of the Everton defense, how many did they let you in? 1? 2? all 4?
Just fix up!

Ahead of the match, I have very little to say about the tactical setup about this match. I don't think we need to change it too much, though Pippo should get the nod ahead of Gila.
Wednesday is soon approaching, with the biggest game of our season. Now is the time to be focused, to look forward with confidence and do what we must. We’ve had a tough season, but right now if anyone was offered the position we are in now at the start of the year, I doubt they will have refused. I don’t think anyone thought we’d have gotten this far in the CL and in the league we now have third place, which only a few weeks ago seemed unlikely.
Two games remain before we can reach the greatest glory that European club football has to offer. Two games remain before we can achieve number 7. Two games before we can do the seemingly impossible.
We can take pride in what we’ve achieved this year so far, because all year we’ve been the underdogs. We’ve had great injustice to put up with. The reputation of the club couldn’t have be dragged through anymore dirt and supposedly we’re not meant to be in this tournament, despite no reason for us not to be allowed in.
Despite the troubles though, who else can claim to have done Italian football proud like we have? Inter? With their scudetto, but once again flop badly in Europe, and again ending it with violence? Roma, for who I have great respect, but still managed one of the greatest losses in the history of the cup?
We may not be brilliant this year, but we are the only non-English side left in the competition. We have maintained our pride in the most difficult of years, and have played football with excitement and entertainment, to be commended by UEFA, the very people who didn’t want us in the tournament.
Additionally, we now bear the flag of Italian football in the football world. Does Italian football even deserve this after what we’ve been put through? Personally, I think not. However, whether we accept it or not, we’ve taken the responsibility to retrieve the respect the Italian game has lost, and no doubt the very same people who condemned us last year will probably now support our success in Europe (except Inter fans probably).
We are 3-2 down in the tie, but this is meaningless, even beneficial for us! The side hasn’t always performed when in a positive position, with results such as Deportivo and Liverpool. However, when under pressure the side rarely fails. Ajax 2003, Inter 2003 (home leg with Inter needing just 1 goal to win), Juve 2003 (they were the favourites), PSV 2005, Lyon 2006 and Bayern 2007. This side has character, and the ability to pull off miracles, and this time another miracle is needed!!
We march towards Athens, and currently only Man U stands in our way. We cannot have fear as we move forward and we must fight for victory with everything we have. The side will NOT BE ALONE. They will NOT only have Milan fans behind them. We now have the support of football fans of many other clubs, and this is what we can be proud of!!!!!!! The players want a 12th man? Then I say we give them a 12th man, one made up of not only 70,000+ in the stadium, but millions across the globe!
We continue our march towards Greece by beating United! We tackle all obstacles that come our way and we do what we must to win! Many of you probably realised I’ve been adapting quotes from the film 300 in our quest to conquer Europe. We head towards Greece with the immortal spirit of the Spartans, and I for one will go with the side to the very end!
Man U will come to the devils home on Wednesday, and I say we welcome them as only Milanista can! ON WEDNESDAY! WE DINE IN HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks El Fre :)
according to Eurosport
Gattuso will play
Maldini is still questionable...
As the game is closer Im soooooo sad I wont be in the San Siro hell to help Milan beat United!!! :( We really need Maldini for this game as he can really help us stay calm in almost every situation.
Dont expect some great pressure from Milan, its best we play slow tempo with a lot of solid passing like in the first half of the Manchester game. And then strike with precise vertical passes from Kaka', Seedorf, Pirlo, Marek to Pippo if possible. Change of pace and rythm issomething United doesnt have as their weapon while we do.
And, if we concide a goal, we still need to play calmly and try to push forward with the fullbacks more than in the Old Trafford. Few precise crosses were missing in there, we could see them in San Siro...

UEFA statement
A UEFA statement issued on Wednesday read as follows:
"Having examined the request of the Italian Football Association (FIGC) to register AC Milan for the UEFA Champions League 2006/07, the submissions of the Chief Disciplinary Inspector of UEFA, and the statements of AC Milan and the FIGC, the UEFA Emergency Panel has today admitted AC Milan to participate in the third qualifying round of the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League. As a result, the Italian club plays the two legs of the competition's third qualifying round as drawn on 28 July 2006 in Nyon.
"The UEFA Emergency Panel, being competent to decide on this matter, came to the conclusion that it had no choice but to admit AC Milan for the UEFA club competitions 2006/07 for formal reasons because of an insufficient legal basis in the regulations which would allow not admitting AC Milan under the specific circumstances.
"The UEFA Emergency Panel made a clear statement to the club that 'this admission is far from being given with the utmost conviction. AC Milan takes advantage of the fact that UEFA lacks legal grounds to refuse the club's admission. In this respect, AC Milan is herewith informed that the necessary adaptations will be made to the Regulations concerned. The UEFA Emergency Panel is deeply concerned that AC Milan has created the impression of being involved in the improper influencing of the regular course of matches in the Italian football championship.'
"From the statement of AC Milan, the Panel concluded that 'the club has obviously not yet properly perceived the troubles it is in and the damage it already caused to European football. UEFA and the club's opponents will observe with the utmost attention the future attitude of AC Milan around UEFA club competition fixtures . UEFA will not hesitate to intervene severely, should AC Milan be involved in any activities aiming to arrange improperly the outcome of a match.'"

After reading Gattuso's words on Corriere, I remembered this letter. The letter that made me very very angry almost a year ago (if I'm not mistaken it was August the 2nd), at the same time it was the letter that said we were allowed to play in the CL.
I hope our players read this again before the game, it's kind of inspirational to teach a thing or two to UEFA, that even if our managment was involved in some wrong doings (that aren't really clear TBH), we are a great team despite everything.
Despite propper preparation, propper signings, and propper replacements, without showing our best potencial for most of the season, despite the fact that all of our lines have experience problems (from a gk that has his blackout moments, to our not so reliable defensive line, to the lack of creativity of our midfield, to end with the lack of definition from our strikers), inspite of the injuries that didn't let us have some continuety, inspite of the ever present memory of the loses in La Coruña and Istanbul, despite the age of the team (and inspite of the laughs that that provides to other team fans), despite the fact that many keep on saying "they shouldn't even be there"....WE ARE HERE, for the 3rd time in a row, and the 4th time in the last 5 CL seasons :proud:.
I don't care who plays and who doesn't, for Wednesday I trust all of our players, even the ones I have little trust in, I trust Carlo, I trust our fans to give full support to squad (forget about jeering a player just for Wednesday, plz).

Just wanna say, please boys, be in Athens for my birthday! There's no way 23rd May 2007 will be polluted by all those manyoo bandwagoners around me. *shudder*
Those ppl in San Siro, scream your hearts out! We needs 80 thousand lions!
I almost forgot how it feels to give my heart to the Rossoneri,
This whole week of anticipation made me nerves tense and my hands shake,
I am not sure if I ever truly loved a girl,
but I am absolutely convinced that I love AC Milan, because every part of me strives for it.
This Wednesday my eyes will be mirroring the green fields of San Siro, 11 players of red and black, and 80,000 fans behind their shoulders..
Whatever happens during those 90 minutes, rossoneri - fight till the last second, I will be there with you...
Can we actually loose with such fans? We only need a bit of luck, im sure the players will give 150% in those 90 min. So will Curva! Even without the banners and flags and with this moronic laws, we still can have the best fans in the world! Im actually not tkinking about anything than the match since last tuesday... We need this title to kill the Istanbul and La Corunia ghosts!!! And I want Liverpool in Athens, not Sheva and Chelski!
Im not posting much about the game because I dont have much to say, I rather just come from time to time to read what my fellow fans have to say, all I want to say is good luck I know we can do it.
If we do get thru trust me im going to go mad & spam.lol joke

I have been restless these few days as the match get closer. I believe we can win the match due respect to Man Utd but Champions league is in our DNA.
Either team deserve to win the Final in Athen with the type of football played.
Win or lose, I am proud that my Milan have been playing Champions league football at these level for the past few seasons. (Especially this season where we have been unjustified). We will be back next season with better squad players thats for sure.
For now, let's enjoy the match of the season for us,Rossoneri and thanks Milan for making us part of it.

I just read that Vidic and Rio Ferdinand are fit for the game, it won't help them because those 2 won't be able to resist the cannonballs of Kaka'.
Forza Milan.

I try not to think of it actually. My manager at work is a huge Premiership/England bandwagon jumper. You know the type.
Despite knowing very little about the sport, he misses no opportunity to bust my chops when an Italian club loses in Europe (he knows I am a huge calcio fan). This behaviour scales new heights, of course, when Milan or the Azzurri lose.
Now of course, after the World Cup I took some thinly veiled potshots, but I think he will come out in full force if Milan are to lose. :nervous:

One day to go. Every Red in Manchester is nervous but confident. The defence is coming together and it looks like Vidic and Ferdinand will be ready to play. This will make the team much stronger at the back. We have great respect for Milan, who the British generally regard as the best team in Serie A, but the feeling is that they are physically not as strong or fit as United and may struggle as the game progresses (CL final v Liverpool, CL semi v United). If Milan can keep possession and dictate the tempo they can avoid this problem and win, if they can keep Rooney and Ronaldo quiet.
I expect Chelsea to reach the final. They are immensely powerful and they mercilessly grind teams down and make very few mistakes, so Milan will find them a much tougher proposition than United.
One other point I will make. Sheva has basically failed to reach the standards of the EPL this season. His lack of pace and strength show up badly in this league. Word has it that he became "injured" when told he was on the bench for the semi-final. He might be back in Milan next season.

They may be in the starting XI, but how ready are they? Vidic hasn't played in a while, and Ferdinand will always be tentative with that groin.

Not even sure they are in the starting XI yet, they are both travelling with the squad but to be honest that was always likely to be the case as even if they are nowhere near fitness we may need them in an emergency.
You are right though, Vidic hasnt played since march and for a player who relies so much on his power (both defending and on set pieces for Utd) how much will he want to risk his broken collarbone so soon? Rio too has already had one reoccurance of his groin injury so wirst case scenario is this could really backfire for Fergie.
He has to take the risk if they are near fit though, with the league nearly wrapped up he can rest them for a couple of weeks after this if needs be.

I rather have Man U play them honestly. I haven't seen a single player that come back from injury and play one amazing game straight away. Maybe Nesta?

A question was posed as to how people here deal with the upcoming game:
Well, I try not to think about it, because I get too nervous, and stressed..so I either play football, for real, or on the PS2, or just watch the Discovery channel, or Discovery Kids with my soon to be 2 year old.

I don't think his technical or physical ability (though he's seemed off the mark physically) has much to do with it.
Chelsea's way of playing, the lack of teamwork, being played off position as well as obvious splits within the club with regards to him make it very difficult for someone like him who's already reached his peak to adapt to a place where he's under immense pressure.
I have very little doubt that had circumstances been better, he'd have been very successful.
I doubt it's at all likely he'll go back to Milan now. There are many fans who still haven't forgiven him for the way he left, and really he's become a part of the past, whilst we're obviously building for the future at the club. For the present, we have gotten Ronaldo to take his spot who has already become a fan favourite as well as a massive player for the side, and is expected to be back to his best for next season when he's fully recovered physically (an incredible amount of work is being done to get him fit). Finally, I'd bet that quite a few players in the squad probably wouldn't welcome him back too quickly either, because some of the comments that were reported after Sheva left seemed to have a slightly bitter flavour to them.

Yeha very few players come back brilliantly. Nesta is a good example but it is rare, for Utd the only time i can think of in Europe was Rooney's debut in 2004, where he came back from injury and got a hattrick immediately  and then didnt score again for 3 years :D
It is a tough choice for Fergie but the fact he has mentioned it so much and has brought them when unfit shows how much he values them, or alternatively shows how troubled he is by the thought of the mistaker-makers (Brown, O Shea) being relied upon in the San Siro. These are not the guys to rely on when you know 1 mistake can put you out

Thats true, Sheva has always seemed like he wants another touch which on the surface suggests he cant cope with the pace of the game. Thats not entirely accurate though, while it would be wrong to deny he has struggled at times its very much Chelseas style of play which is bringing about his problems.
If he had spent the season at Utd, Arsenal or Spurs he would have been a great success imho, as these clubs rely more on speed of movement and thought.

Dude, how many times are you going to say that?
Chelsea were terrible, dear me.
I hope tomorrow Ancholetti surprises Fergie.
I would put Cafu in the Midfield instead of Ambrosini. Also our full back have to try attack much more so that we can push their wingers back.If we sit deep we are done.
GOALKEEPERS: Dida, Kalac, Storari;
DEFENDERS: Bonera, Cafu, Favalli, Jankulovski, Kaladze, Maldini, Nesta, Oddo, Serginho, Simic;
MIDFIELDERS: Ambrosini, Brocchi, Gattuso, Gourcuff, Kakà, Pirlo, Seedorf;
STRIKERS: Gilardino, Inzaghi, Ricardo Oliveira.

Gattuso taking to Milan Channel about the letter he wrote in Corriere della Sera:
‘It was my idea, I wanted to address Milan’s fans. I saw it happen with Liverpool and I saw it happen again with Manchester United, the English don’t ever give up thanks in part to their fans. Not to take anything away from our fans. Our fans are always there for us and they always cheer us on. This time is special though because they need to give us an incredible hand. We will give our all, but they must take us even further. I am going through some unusual moments, but I am just thinking about us, about our jersey and about my team-mates. The letter is about what I am thinking about how we started the season and what we have gone through. It was a great undertaking to arrive at this point. And now we don’t want to stop. How am I preparing for the match? I only know one way and that’s to think about running, running and running until my legs give out from under me. Other players like Kakà for example prepare differently, which is only right. However, this is the way I do it.’
Rino will be in running for his coach as well, he affirmed: ‘Certainly, I will. Today I read that the English are hoping that the game ends like in 1999. I hope not. Carlo Ancelotti has suffered a lot along with the rest of us in these months. And if we have made it here, then it is thanks to him. Ancelotti helps give us the right attitude. He has taken us here. If someone else had been here other than him this year with all the difficulties and problems, then it would have not gone well. Now, we are focusing on the game. I am thinking that if Kakà is as devastating as he was at the Old Trafford, then we will win. We know that it will be tough, but that’s pretty normal for a Champions League semi-final. All of the Rossoneri fans should be should be proud because if we make it to the final it would be a real miracle. No one expected it.’

SkySports News has just said that Maldini has 'failed to recover from his knee injury' and will be replaced by Kaladze in CB. No matter, I have faith in KK. We have to stay behind whatever lineup Carlito throws out there. Nesta will have to perform some extra-hand gestures/shouting in place of Capitano. BUT HE WILL BRING THE HAIR. OH YES HE WILL. :D Rino looks about ready to go, 'Dog of War' that he is. If you want to stop this man from playing, well...am afraid Carlito will have to tie him to the bench and have Ronnie99 sit on him. I want to see Pirlo with the ball more and Seedorf to bring his game like he did in the 1st leg. Kaka...you can't ask this man to do any more than he has already done for us. That second goal at OT is burned into my mind. Pippo? We're looking for SuperPippo tomorrow. Let's hope it's him and not his twin brother Paulo Inzaghi that shows up. Dida...hey, man. Just pull out all the stops. Literally. :D
My last post here until after the game as I'm in school tomorrow. I can't be at the San Siro, but I will be wearing my Rossonero jersey with fire in my heart and clutching the little crucifix around my neck...I didn't want to get spiritual about these things, but I hope God (who or whatever he is) watches the game tomorrow (on HDTV obviously) and looks out for our boys. We've been through a mad season Lord, please make sure the ragazzi don't break any more bones or sprain anymore ankles. Give us our daily dose of good hair and keep that offside flag down.
We don't need you to help us win though God. Because Milan can do that all on their own.
I'll see (read) you all then. Forza Milan! :firedev:
Yes, it looks like Maldini won't be able to start. Having KK as CB is a bet: this guy got a red card the game before last Serie A match, and I'm worried that he is not fit.
But with the confidence and morale within the group...
