I like the bold part since Allegri do rely his play on the random and unexpected movement from the players. This could pretty eliminate the disadvantage of having 3 DMs: playing static in the middle without creativity and offensiveness. Flam and Boateng show how with 3 DMs Milan can still play solid, offensive and with enough creativity thanks to the movement, random & unexpected one and their good mobility up and down the field.
Honda is IMO a more an attacking midfielder not, a play-maker like Ganso. That kind of player I am naturally accustomed with: Serginho, Giggs, etc., but a left-footed player who play-make the game (hold on the ball, wait a little bit to see space or just for his teammates to go forward and do nice movements and be the core of the play upfront) I rarely watch. BTW I only assume all characteristics I mentioned since I don't watch his games.
Actually, I think we're going to see a new trend in our team:
- lately, we've used players who are excellent in their role, for example Gattuso as a destructor, Pirlo as a deep lying playmaker, ...
- with Flamini and Boateng, we have a new kind of midfielder, well, they are modern midfielders, they're good overall, with a preference for either the attack or the defence (Boateng is clearly better when asked to go forward and not defending all the time for example)
I think the best would be to have 2 players like that in the midfield (that means 4 in the roster), a destructor behind them (Flamini can also do it but I think we're going to be afraid to see him getting a yellow card, if not red, in each game), and a very creative attacking midfielder in front of them ...
It's the way I see our formation in the next few years.
Reading on a few sites that R80 was at a nightclub after midnight and Allegri isn't happy...nothing really new I guess

Allegri said that he wasn't happy but he could understand.
I am not anti-R80, I just hope he plays well and if not things will work out for themselves, I think no matter what he will be here until 2012 max.

after watching Gorcuff against England on other night, i think his transfer was the worst mistake Milan made in recent years.... he is the kind of player we need now!!!
Most players look good against england.

Very funny,,,,
Ronaldinho gone in either January, or June...Very surprised (and disappointed) if he stays longer than that.

The best (or probably most optimal is more suitable?) modern player right now, as you described, is IMO Thomas Müller. Very mobile with decent skills on every aspect of football. If scores exist to judge player on individual skills, Müller will get 7-7,5 (from 10) on all points. He has no weak point.
Allegri said that he wasn't happy but he could understand.
Yeah, Allegri is soft enough to his players but I just hope, he shows his 'punishment' for such player by not playing that player.
A fantastic sponsors: Luiz and Gans for a decade of success (http://www.milannews.it/?action=read&idnotizia=39110)
Thiago Silva is, unquestionably, one of the world's strongest central defensive, as widely and objectively demonstrated in two years at Milan. The Brazilian National parentheses after the friendly against Argentina at the time, is ready to dive back into the Rossoneri, with well established quality that distinguish it. The defender, in addition to managing its role as a field, it also seems oriented toward a "job" of scouting, given its determination to sponsor his countrymen more capable.
We are talking about David Luiz (23) and Paulo Henrique said Ganso (21), respectively, and Benfica star of the St. Paul: two rising stars of the landscape green and gold, always very attractive for the Rossoneri colors. Silva, through the pages of the Corriere dello Sport, it was clearly stated in respect of its fellow in the department Seleįao, twenty-three and the pride of the Portuguese in Lisbon: "We are very well together in the National Assembly. We hope to do so here at Milan, I think it's worth making a big financial sacrifice for him. And 'eclectic, is able to make the most of any position in the defensive system. In Benfica is always one of the best in the field. I guarantee on David. Even the fact that we could play them both, up to 40 years in Milan. " The Brazilian ideas are crystal clear and, considering the age of the players in question, the hypothesis of a duo unchanged for at least the next ten years does not seem utopian.
Not only defense, however: Thiago praises even from the foot of another green-gold refined, a playmaker so important to spend a comparison: "Ganso for me is the new Zidane. It 's different from Kaka who has been often compared. In this time there is nobody in the world like him. albatross has a great ability as Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldinho. From this point of view reminds me more Deco when he played in Barcelona.'s injury? will be back playing for Santos in February, I think it will be even stronger than before. "One couple, one formed by Luiz and Gans, which would guarantee success and victories for many seasons to come: the cost would be high but, as stated by the great number 33, it certainly is true 'more worthwhile.
If Ronaldinho leaves Milan, will it be more Brazilians in Milan compared to in Ancelotti's team? I forgot if Dida, Serginho, Cafu, Kaka, Emerson and Ronaldo were in Milan at the same time. If just 5 of them were playing for Milan in the same season, then having Silva, Luiz, Ganso, Pato and Binho is not something that weird for Milan. :D
What we need then are Italian creative midfielder for Pirlo's substitute (if possible to happen: Fossati) and defensive midfielder for Ambro/Gattuso's successor (my wish: Calvano) with sticking GK to Abbiati or Amelia and right fullback to Abate. :D

i'd rather to have Pastore instead Ganso, though i just watched Ganso a few times, so its not fair to make a comment about him. Yet Pastore is one of my favourite players. his pace and skill is something you can enjoy, he is great, he is also improving on work rate and finishing this season and can be better player in the coming future.
Regarding Honda, he is something we need in midfield, even with Pastore, his quality comes from his vision, work rate, playmaking skills, finishing and movement... i really like him more than Ganso...
Another player i would like to have at Milan is, Jucilei. fantastic box to box player, Ambro, Gattuso and Seedorf are aged and their contribution to us is dropping every year more...its really good time for fresh blood in midfield. Jucilei is one of the player who can be that player...
Then, CB problem and more importantly FB problem. Coentraro is a nice pick for us, i hope we dont miss out on him. yet his price tag will be high.

What do you think about Zarate and Lavezzi?
ZvonimirBoban
20-11-2010, 20:35
Big no. Same characteristics like Robinho, we don't need more players like that especially forward. And both are jerks.
yes to lavezzi! if he was in a bigger team he would be world renowned. zarate... not so much. kind of a one season wonder, but he is quite explosive.

I like Niko Kranjcar, good attack player with strong work ethic, Tottenham gonna offload him in January, i would love to see him alongside with Zlatan. and also City's Emmanuel Adebayor, Wayne Bridge, Shay Given, Joleon Lescott, Roque Santa Cruz and Wright Phillips all thought to be heading for the exit door, i think Wayne bridge could be good buy.....

I like Coentrao the best for LB, but Wayne Bridge also not a bad option.
Seems Man City want Jerome Boateng and Kolarov as their left backs.
Modric not available. Perhaps Kranjcar but he's not Milan material. He's simply not an upgrade.
Roque Santa Cruz on same level as Matri, IMO.
Some (must be fake but...) rumours around that Carlo will leave Chelsea
Sacking him while they're still topping the league and UCL group (CMIIW) is ridiculous IMO. But they did seem lost lately. They seem to know only one way to play, that is through the left. And when both Cole+Malouda are having off day, they don't have plan B or other players capable of creating chances.
Anyway, if Bastian Schweinsteiger doesn't renew his contract do you guys think we should go after him? He's been playing surprisingly well at the center of the midfield. A typical modern box to box midfield that'll add something to our team IMO since he has willingness to defend as well as creativity to start an attack and good range of passing thanks to his days playing on the flanks.

I don't know how accurate this information is this... but if it's true, Ganso seems alot closer...
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/paulo-henrique-ganso/profil/spieler_67920.html
Ganso has an Italian passport according to the site.
Plus Robinho has a Spanish passport, so that means we could sign a Non-EU player in January, and another in June.
Reports from Italian papers say that Corvino is in Brazil now and has an agreement with Corinthians to get Jucilei in the summer.

Read about it, too...
Corinthians president said he received a offer for Jucilei this week. Didnīt tell the team, but Iīm sure it wasnīt Milan. Three teams are linked to big Juci here in Brazil... Fiorentina, Juve and Inter.
Iīm a big fan of Jucilei, and I have no doubt he will be a better player(and more recognized) the day he start to play in Europe. A perfect case of a Brazilian player that will develope better in Europe than Brazil. And Iīm afraid it will be another Hernanes case. A player we "discovered" first and end up at another team...

second that, Milan shouldact soon or he will end up in Juve, especially with all the recent praises he has been receiving from Nedved

Milan materials used to mean over 30 players with high wages but zero to low transfer fees and used to be on a winning team before or got an agent who got players that Milan wanted. Then it became players who are under 22 with low transfer fees. Recently, Milan materials mean either getting a player through another through loan and then purchase.
Personally, I have a strong feeling Hernanes will come to Milan at the end of the season in Lazio and hopefully, guys like Ganso and Jucelei will follow.

Man people on this website are not Native English speakers, and I commend everyone for speaking such good English being from all over the world (China, Croatia, Bosnia, France, Kuwait, etc)....
However, I find many things I say often gets lost in translation...
Milan have a very solid Midfield in that they have 4-5 midfielders who can play at a high level. However, we have issues in that they are getting older (particularly Ambrosini, Gattuso, Pirlo, and Seedorf)....
Now, we must replace these guys with younger guys who IN THEIR PRIME can match Pirlo and Seedorf's PRIME which is quite a high level.
I do not think that Niko Kranjcar ( who is a very solid midfielder, creative too) is capable of being a number 10 on Milan and taking them to SERIE A title and Champions League in the next generation.
Now, can Ganso do it? can Hernanes? I'm not sure. I don't know all of the solutions and answers, but I get the feeling that if Kranjcar can't cut into the Tottenham lineup enough, then it's not what we need at Milan.
I want a DOMINATING number 10 to play behind Pato and Ibrahimovic. A guy who can create, and also help out of strong midfield consisting of Boateng, Flamini, and maybe even Jucilei in the future.
This is what is meant by Milan Material. The next Kaka, Seedorf, Pirlo type of Midfielder. A dominating presence...Kranjcar, while useful, will most likely NOT be that guy.
Agreed?

Actually Kranjcar is not a bad idea at all, he cost tottnham around 2 mil...so a price around 5 mil should do the job. He is actually in a great form. The only reason why is not playing in the first eleven is BALE,VDW,Modric (top 2 midfield in the world). At this moment every player in our roster would be second to Bale,VDW,Modric so him not playing is not necessarily a bad indication.
We need a player of his quality, and him as a squad player for 5 mil is a bargain.

If we could splash out the market and get Fabregas...I'd say forget Jucilei/Ganso and whoever, if Fabregas gets our #5 spot, we are set, FOREVER (ok maybe for 5 years). That guy is truly the best in the world in the spot and no one can make as many defence-splitting passes per game like he can. Defensively he's super solid, offensively he is unbelievable. Fabregas - from all those expensive players out there in the world - is really worth 40m. He could be the heart beat of the new Milan, he could be the soul of it.
I wish Milan fans can start talking alot about Fabregas because I've noticed that Milan tends to get linked to players that the fans talk about on the Internet quite alot. Maybe the more we mention Fabregas, we will start to get linked to him, and then the press will ask questions to the management about him and it can give them ideas to get him... I don't know.... but it's worth a shot.
Fabregas is the one player besides Messi who can totally change your team. If he goes to Barca I have no idea where he'd play in their lineup. Iniesta is going to be there for years, Xavi is still in his prime and has at least 2-3 more seasons. I doubt Fabregas will be given Busquets position for two reasons - 1) they just got Mascherano for quite a sum (and he's not being played that much) 2) they will not have any defensive midfielders and their team will get destroyed defensively.
Barbara Berlusconi is rumored to want to give us a gift -- yes, we do need a new FB, a new AM, a new defender to take over from Nesta...I really do wish that we can somehow find some room for Cesc (who can make us forget Pirlo and Seedorf very quickly).
Cesc Fabregas.
I've been wanting Fabregas for years, but he said himself that he only wants Barca and Barca really wants him as well.

It wouldn't be the first time that what says a player is BS ... :)
Look at Dzeko: he said many times over the last few years that he wanted to join Milan and only Milan. And few days ago, what could we read ? Dzeko saying he is a fan of Milan but never said he wanted to join us.
I took this example because it's the most recent one, so please, if there is any Dzeko fan on the forum, don't bash me ... :D
We can find hundreds of examples like that !!
And anyway, didn't Fabregas say once that his favourite club in Italy was Milan ?
I don't remember if it was him or another player, but I remember someone in Arsenal saying that ...

If Kranjcar can not be starter in Tottenham, I don't know how he could help Milan. Don't kid ourselves, Tottenham is not better than Milan. Modric is away too overrated IMO. He would be already in much bigger club than Tottenham if the hype overhim 90% is true.
Saying the midfield of Tottenham is top 2 midfield in the world is too exaggerating. Our top 100 midfield in the world will kick that the world second best midfield. :dconf:
If we want to find our number 10, I agree with other, we should buy the true Milan material. I know Kranjcar is very good but it is on football PC game. :)

. Modric is away too overrated IMO. He would be already in much bigger club than Tottenham if the hype overhim 90% is true.
If anything he is underrated. He proved himself as a youngster in Dinamo Zagreb, he was the most important player for Croatia in their successful Europe 2008 campaign. He was Tottanhams most important player last season when they secured CL spot after eternity of waiting.
And if he is still in Tottnahm its because his asking price which is well over 30 mil. Barca and Manchester have shown interest.

My mistake I meant to write top 3 midfield. At this moment I don`t see a better outfit than Modric,Bale,VDW bar Barca and Real. (arsenal and Inter can testify :D)...we have actually members here how would kill to have this trio in Milan.

I agree on the last part. Krajncar is not a class of players Milan should consider. But at the given price he is a very valuable asset. Believe me I have followed him since he was 16 years old. He is talented, and he can be helpful in the lond season ahead of us, especially if Dinho leaves in January.

I remember Kranjcar was a very talented player 2-3 years ago or so right around the time of EUro 2008. He was playing under his father as coach.
However, since then, I do not think he has improved much. Also, Modric was AMAZING at Euro 2008, and then he has not been the same IMO. Still a very good player, but in that tournament he reminded me of a pirlo that RUNS...:D
As for Hamsik, yes, he would be great!!! but I don't think he's available. He also seems to choke in big games from what I've seen. Anyone agree?
I'm going to make a poll .. but I want to hear who members want:
1. Ganso (Santos)
2. Keisuke Honda (CSKA Moskva)
3. Javier Pastore (Palermo)
4. Marek Hamsik (Napoli)
5. Luka Modric (Tottenham)
6. Niko Kranjcar (Tottenham)
7. Antonio Cassano (Sampdoria)
8. Rafael Van der Vaart (Tottenham)
9. Kaka (Real Madrid)
10. Diego (Wolfsburg)
11. Hernanes (Lazio)

Agreed. This guy plays superbly against most clubs but never had I saw him show the same quality display when playing against us.
And trying to answer Geo's question, yes Fabregas once said that he likes AC Milan. If we manage to strengthen our defense, maybe we can tempt him next summer with a project of being a serious contender in both serie A and UCL. But even that will cost us A LOT.
Can't say anything about Ganso though as I never saw him play.

Agreed?
I agree with your general point, that we need quality to start replacing what we currently have. However, I think rather than looking at talent, we need players of a certain quality, but more importantly which are intelligent and can follow Allegri's tactics.
I would argue under Allegri, Ambrosini has been our best midfielder of late. This is a player who has never really been considered a world class player (he's never even really broken into the Italian national team), yet plays a huge role for us. Technically, he's arguably only superior to Gattuso (another player Allegri favours), yet he's a definite starter. The reason is that he's tactically intelligent, positions himself well and does what is asked of him. This is what Allegri needs, talented players, but most importantly players who can perform their duty on the pitch.
About Hernanes and Ganso. If I'm honest, Hernanes was underestimated by the footballing giants and has essentially transformed Lazio with Edy Reja this season.
Ganso on the other hand is still a very young player, but one which has gifts which are rare in football. His movement, reading of the game and vision are incredible and under the right circumstances I have no doubts about him becoming a world great. Pastore is another to consider although he seems impossible to get (without even looking at his price), but for our system I think Ganso fits better.

I remember Kranjcar was a very talented player 2-3 years ago or so right around the time of EUro 2008. He was playing under his father as coach.
However, since then, I do not think he has improved much. Also, Modric was AMAZING at Euro 2008, and then he has not been the same IMO. Still a very good player, but in that tournament he reminded me of a pirlo that RUNS...:D
As for Hamsik, yes, he would be great!!! but I don't think he's available. He also seems to choke in big games from what I've seen. Anyone agree?
I'm going to make a poll .. but I want to hear who members want:
1. Ganso (Santos)
2. Keisuke Honda (CSKA Moskva)
3. Javier Pastore (Palermo)
4. Marek Hamsik (Napoli)
5. Luka Modric (Tottenham)
6. Niko Kranjcar (Tottenham)
7. Antonio Cassano (Sampdoria)
8. Rafael Van der Vaart (Tottenham)
9. Kaka (Real Madrid)
10. Diego (Wolfsburg)
11. Hernanes (Lazio)
* Sorry guys, Fabregas ain't happening. He wants Barca and Barca wants him. He will go soon enough and they'll play this formation
Iniesta----------Krkic-----------Messi
-------Fabregas-------Xavi------------
-------------Mascherano--------------
I want Pastore at Milan, Van der vart wasn't required at the start of season, bear in mind he was available for nothing... I still like Kranjcar, but Honda would be a good choice.....

Jay, we still have a Non-EU spot available for this season that we haven't used, so yes we could...... and actually according to recent rumors, Ganso even has an Italian passport so we can buy another Non-EU player this January.
Ganso today said to Globesport: "I dont want to play in a club like Man City. I prefer to play in a big European club like Milan, Real Madrid or Barcelona".
Other rumors today say that Milan want Andreas Beck, a 23 year old fullback from Hoffenheim. Fabio Santini, an Italian market expert, has said yesterday that Matri and Coentrao will be bought by Milan in January.
Hello friends... I havent posted in here for a while coz I had some things going on in real life so I was really occupied and I also missed ONE Milan game :) :) I promise it will not happen again, haha...
I see you are talking about Fabregas - the player that is right now the best possible buy for a CM position, but that is not possible and that will not happen. I do not care about him nad the rumors...
Inzaghi's injury was a HORRIBLE thing... a really sad event and something that will slow Milan down unless we find a good CF to fill up untill the end of the season. Pato's injuries are also extremly worrying...
Todays news say (milannews ) that Silvio has said yes to Dinho's departure and that Matri and Coentrao will be our players in january!!
1: Dinho - he was no place in Milan no more. We need to sell him, get some money, take the money from his wages and invest into the club bank. Dinho is no longer a player Milan can use in modern football.
2. Matri - for a 4th CF is an EXCELLENT choice. Milanista, a very good CF, cmart and also a versatile player. I give my thumbs up for him!
3 - Coentrao - news say Galliani and Rui have made a deal and he'll be in Milan in the winter! That was my big wish and I keep fingers crossed for this becouse Coentrao has potential to be a really great LB in here. You'll see how he'll do in a big club, Im convinced he THE man for our back line! SEcure in his passing, crossing, etreme speed, brains, technique... If Galliani manages this, we got a great player.
4 - I expect PAto to fly off in the summer and Mario Balotelli in Milan + some money. GANSO is the player we need to sign in the summer, noone else! We cannot let this player fly away! Classis no.10 is hard to find!!! Ganso is not like Rivaldo, he will be better then Rivaldo!
5 - I wouldnt be surprised if Cassano replaces Dinho now...
Selling PAto in the summer, and buying players like Matri, Coentrao, Balotelli, Ganso... is a good deal in my eyes.

Welcome back Croazia !!
If the Coentrao rumors are to be true, I will be one very very happy Milanista:5schal:
:v408:I will be praising Berlu in January if we get Ganso, Matri & Coentrao....
I think Coentrao has all of the characteristics to be the next GREAT Left Back in Europe...
As for Pato, I don't want to see him go, even for Balotelli. They both are young explosive talents, Pato has issues with injuries, and Balotelli has issues with his brain...

I am not impressed with the 3 DMs. Now we can use it but we should get a creative midfielder to play in Boateng/Gattuso position. Boateng is not Milan first team material and Gattuso offer nothing when he goes forward.

I disagree... Boateng can certainly play on this team and can even move forward,....
Also, keep in mind Coentrao moves forward alot more than Antonini ever has...
I don't have an issue with the 3 DM's considering Flamini can also get forward..
Eventually, as I've said in past posts... Milan need to buy Jucilei or a player like that who can offer more going forward...

He said that if Milan gets a new striker in January, it will only be a great player ...
After the game of tonight, he said that the team wouldn't change this winter at 90-95% (of course, he won't say now that we need a new FB for example, how would it be taken by the current players ??) but if a great player becomes available, we will try to get him. He added that right now, no player was available.
Let's prepare ourselves to see Galliani saying white one day and black the following day until the Winter mercato finally starts ...

I know he always speaks like that calling everyone champions.. but we don't need a champion. We need a guy like Matri, Huntelaar, Floccari, Borriello..type of player..
Then, we need to spend our $$$$ on a LB/RB and ACM!!!!

Can we take back Boriello in January i don't think so... but he is doing great in Roma would be a very good back up for Imbra..
Allegri once said that the three best Italian youngsters are Paloschi, Poli, and Ranocchia. Knowing that Inter Merda has blocked the defender, maybe we could get the first two? together with Lazzari and Ganso. Of course, we will have to wait until the next summer for any of those to happen, I guess.
Maybe just Ganso for January. Is that too much to ask? :D
Can we take back Boriello in January i don't think so... but he is doing great in Roma would be a very good back up for Imbra..
doubt it. We didn't want to let go Borriello. He wanted to leave, so it is pretty useless to even think about that possibility.
He would have been very useful though. :hmmm:
I disagree... Boateng can certainly play on this team and can even move forward,....
He can play on the team but as backup. :D
Also, keep in mind Coentrao moves forward alot more than Antonini ever has...
Yes, I know. But Flamini will 'compensate' it. But Gattuso and Abate on the right side makes our attacking clueless. Having Boateng there make it better for the right side. But having a creative midfielder there has impact not only for the right side of the team but also the midfield and attack .
I don't have an issue with the 3 DM's considering Flamini can also get forward..
Now we don't have the issue since Ibra scores every game. The problem would be if we are without Ibra. The real problem is against GENUINE big team. We haven't face big team except Madrid. Juve for now can be called big team, Inter with Benitez plus injuries either.
Boateng is not creative, lose balls often, made wrong mistakes easily and lack of tactical knowledge. He is HOWEVER important for us now due to our lack of creative players.
Eventually, as I've said in past posts... Milan need to buy Jucilei or a player like that who can offer more going forward...
Yes, but it should be also creative one. We don't have creative player on the midfield. If we buy Ganso for example, Ganso has to fight himself to create chances. He should be supported by player who can play the game, not only moving forward.
Some news are saying Galliani will maybe go for Cassano as he will be a free player... As far as Im concerned, better to sign him and save money then to pay 10mln for Matri... Cassano is Cassano... But Milanello is Milanello...
My fingers are crossed for a player like Coentrao NOW, in winter, not in the summer... we need a class player like that to give us an extra push in quality for scudetto... I do not count on CL,. its impossivble with players like Pirlo, Seedorf, injured Pato, Dinho, Antonini etc...
Coentrao now, Ganso in the summer - 2 most important issues... For now, one forward, maybe Antonio, and Pato as a CF if Ibra cannot.

Well, I think if we were to take Cassano, we could forget Ganso: Cassano is able to play as an attacking midfielder, so a guy like him would be used as a striker to start while there are injuries and then would be used to replace Seedorf ... which would help Allegri to use the team the way he wants: either Pirlo or Seedorf, helped by two DM, and a creative midfielder in front of the trio.
But I'm not sure I want Cassano ... He seemed more mature, but the last episode showed he is still a "burned head".

Agreed. I don't know if Cassano is the answer. We need an ACM, a Forward (to replace Pippo) and a FB. In my opinion the backup CB and CM are 4th and 5th priorities.
Cassano seems to be more of Second Striker (we have Ibra and Robinho).
We need a true ACM & a Big Penalty Box Striker.
I don't know if Cassano is either.
Also, it seems Ronaldinho is gone in January. If so, and Ganso is bought, who will play ACM? Ganso won't be ready for months.

cassano would be perfect , if we could get cassano we'll probally play 433 or 4231 or 4312 , cassano is huge tall strong a headcase but easily the best italian striker , or mario id take cassano instead of matri for 10 M , he would be used like totti was for italy in 2006 world cup or totti was used in as roma when he would play behind 2 strikers we easily would have one of the best attacks in the world now i still dont thinkso ,

Report: Rejection For Milan As Cagliari Say No To €12 Million Bid For Alessandro Matri
Milan told they can't have Cagliari's Alessandro Matri.
By Salvatore Landolina
Nov 24, 2010 6:52:00 AM
Milan have had a €12 million bid for striker Alessandro Matri rejected by Cagliari.
Rossoneri dealers were at the gates holding cash for Matri, seen as a replacement for Filippo Inzaghi, but the Sardinians were in no mood to yield.
Cagliari president Massimo Cellino saw the bid as fragile, and it was promptly rejected, according to Sky Sport Italia.
Despite flying high, potential weaknesses have been presented through Inzaghi's injury.
Milan are now likely to seize upon other opportunities. Parma's Alberto Paloschi could unify the Rossoneri's need to reinforce up front.
However, Milan CEO Adriano Galliani recently hinted the club had been thrown off the transfer yoke by their good form in Serie A and Champions League.
"We will stay as we are 95 percent in January," he told the press following their win over Auxerre on Tuesday.
has Matri valued 12m?...
Cassano is only good when the team revolves around him, when everything goes his way. That's why he excelled in Sampdoria until his recent outburst. But put him in a club with several other stars or bench him once and he will crack at the first pressure. And when he does, God knows what kind of rubbish coming out of his mouth. That's what happened in Roma, Madrid and eventually Sampdoria.
Big no!

For the people who don't understand Italian:
[...]
The Brazilian defender admitted that he thinks this season will be the last one of Nesta with the Milan shirt.
[...]
"I dislike a lot if he leaves at the end of the season".
[...]
Nothing important right now ... The guy just says he won't like the fact that Nesta leaves IF he leaves at the end of this season, but that doesn't mean at all that Nesta will leave.
They use the fact that Galliani didn't offer any new contract to Nesta yet and that his contract is going to end in June 2011 as a reason why he could leave, but they forget that Galliani said that the issue of the new contracts will be solved in Spring, not before.
So how do make an article with nothing !! :D
PS: Of course, the chances to see Nesta leave us at the end of the season are high, after all, he's going to be 35 and shows it becomes more and more difficult for him to play several games in a row at a high level without any rest. But didn't Nesta say he would end his career in Milan and would like to play for some more years ?

It seems like 2011. Summer Mercato will be the period when we finally really start to rejuvenate our aging squad!
Thiago Silva thinks, this will be Nesta's final year.
Pirlo will not prolong his contract.
Jankulovski will be gone, and hopefully Oddo will follow him.
Onyewu will be sold too.
Inzaghi is injured, it is a question will he be able to come back at the level that he played until his injury.
Ronaldinho's contract is also up in the air.
And there are Ambrosini, Seedorf, Gattuso and Zambrotta...

The Pirlo not renewing is just a rumour and even then it says he just wants some time to think about it.
Anyway, we're again linked with Rannocchia (milannews is the source), though I'm not sure how anyone can expect us to sign him. Galliani would need to pull off something pretty special to get him.
Maldini has also spoken of Gourcuff about his problems in Milan. Let's just say his comments aren't particularly flattering.

1) If Nesta will go we will need a very good replacement
2) I think Pirlo must stay i wish to...
3) Janku and Oddo will leave us and we will be free to buy young backs
4) Onyewu has never played i don't understand that but the coach knows better and the board
5) I wanted Pippo to go the previous summer but Pippo is a legend i admire him and maybe we can hold him only for that reason
6) If Ronie will not stay why we don't sell him in January
7) Here we need a refreshment i vote Zambro and one of the other three

Gabriel and you forget that his contract is going to end ... we won't renew his contract to sell him or make a swap deal this summer. So it's either he renews, retires or finds another club (which seems unlikely to happen).

Tevez would be great as like u all said, he is one of the hardest worker and a of the few true professional footballer currently left in this world. You can see that he is a straight shooter with respect and he is someone who plays for the team instead of himself. As for the Hernanes - Nesta swap, it was more fantasy than reality. But then again, u never know. Thing is that if Hernanes is to come, I really think Milan will no longer need Seedorf and Pirlo anymore, maybe even Dinho too if Ganso is to come.

hes said in that article he only wants to play professional football for another 3-4 years even though hes not even old. and he wants to play those 3-4 years in europe.. he plays a cf role - or also possibly cam? maybe we could get him for a nice price:D hes very talented.. but i doubt it caus hes doing well this season for man city.. is it just me or do many players wana go to england cause i suppose its a faster, more competitve football but they all dont like life there..? iduno could just be my outlook. anyways -

I really like what he said about how young players have no respect and only care about winning. And that he would punch young players if they ask him why he did that... I guess that what Seedorf thinks too, as he never runs, so if a young player like Strasser asks why ain't u running on the pitch, he will just says, hey look kid, I won 4 CL titles, and that gives me the right to play the way I play now....

Truth is Seedorf still has a much better mental approach to the game than many (arguably most) young footballers today. Too many talented players are wasting their careers by being selfish and approaching the game with the wrong attitude. It's something I even worry about with guys like Pato, Ganso and Neymar. All 3 could become all time greats and yet I've seen each one show some arrogance or stupidity.
Hearing what Maldini said about Gourcuff wasn't that shocking, and it seems every young talent out there seems to have problems with attitude in the game today.

I think it is also down to living in a different countries and having nobody around. Now I am not defending Gourcuff or any young prima donnas, but it must be tough. On top of that, agents these days will always talk the players up..... Personally, I really think a player got to at least learn the language before heading to play in that country.
Honestly, Seedorf better has a better mental approach than most younger players since he has been around long enough.

Well, Seedorf first moved abroad at the age 19 while Gorky at 20. And I never read Seedorf make any controversy in his clubs. Some players just manage to adapt better than others, that's it.
And about these young prima donnas, I think amongst other things, money plays a big part on this. The salary and the contract are much more lucrative these days.
These were Mourinho's words when lambasting young players in general and Balotelli in particular. "It's a generational problem with young players today. Twenty years ago, at age 20, you were a man. Today it's a rarity to find guys thatage who aren't surrounded by hangers-on who destabilize them. Guys who don't just think about money and driving a Ferrari or a Bentley, guys whoare willing to work hard and be professional."
One thing I'd agree with Moaninho on. I've coach 14/15 years olds. Some of whom already think they are good players, ready to make professional jump, but can't control or lack intelligence.
I think what Maldini said could affect the thinking about next transfers
Milan need professional player, not talented but indisciplined one
We need creativity and lungs in one, esp in AM, then in WB as bonera & zambro aren't up to task.

Seedorf at 19, that was like 100yrs ago, hahahaha.
Anyhow, I think it is down to how they prepare for transfer, like I said, think clubs should only sign players who at least speak the country's language.

We'd sign only Italians then.
The players have to learn the language as quick as possible imo, but from what I've heard Milan treat the players very well in terms of adapting, nothing is left to chance, and if the player doesn't adapt then it's either a question of poor mentality, some bad luck or tactical adaptability.

I think there are a lot of reasons as to why a player cannot perform at his fullest. Those mentioned are factors and so are team formations, team approach.....
Gabriel, I mentioned Seedorf to point out that he did face the similar situation with Gorky, "living in a different countries and having nobody around" at young age and coped well with it.
And I agreed with Tony75 about Milan help the new player to adapt. I remember reading Seedorf's interview in the past (I've searched for it again but couldn't find it). He said that he befriended Gorky in his first year, became some kind of mentor, before detached from him in the second year because he felt that everybody should be able to stand on their own after a year of adaption. But now after reading Paolo's comment, I think perhaps part of the reason because Gorky just couldn't get along with the rest of team.
He is French too. That always plays a part.

i sort of agree with what galliani and berlu are saying about our situation, its either top class players become available or we stay as we are.. theres no point in signing matri, when really how much does inzaghi play? we need to first buy players to help the starting 11 before thinking about players to fill in for injuries etc.

For the 4th striker role, I disagree with that, since getting another superstar is just too much. Having said that, I think Milan should sign a reliable true CF in Jan to add more depth as if Pato and Ibra are out, there is no true CF on the team. Maybe calling back Polashi is an option, another idea is sign a veteran striker for e remainder of the season.
Any chance of Kaka coming back? I saw some pics of this new Brazilian called Ganso (or what ever). He really looks (bad) a Juve type player. AC Milan needs handsome Brazilians like Kaka & Nilmaar. No Gonso please!!

Can't believe Barca pounded Real Madrid... 5-0.. then Mourinho says " that wasn't embarassing, it's easy to take the loss".. haha i bet he's crying tonight.
Anyways, I agree with the comment about this Barcelona team being the best team I've ever seen. They've won the Champions League, La Liga, Copa del rey. Since around 2006 Barcelona have just been a level above everyone. However, they're obviously not unbeatable. They won in 2006 and 09 and last year Merda got lucky...
For us to compete with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Bayern, Manchester United, I feel at the very least we need a squad that looks more like this:
-------------Ibrahimovic----Pato-----------------
---------------------------------------------------
-----------------------Ganso---------------------
---------------Flamini-------Jucilei--------------
---------------------Ambrosini-------------------
Coentrao----------------------------------Van der Wiel
------------------T. Silva--Nesta-----------------------
---------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------Amelia---------------------------
I'm not saying these exact players but of this level....
Then combined with that we need to replace Pirlo, Gattuso, Ambrsosini, Inzaghi, Nesta, Seedorf, with younger players who be the next golden generation, hopefully for Nazionale too !! :D

I think all of you are forgetting one really important thing. Barcelona played like a team or should I say played as one player. Watching last night game, it is like playing Barcelona on PES 2011, as all the players know where to pass the ball to and where to run to receive the ball. Something that I have not seen since the ManU of 99. Yes, guys like Xavi, Iniesta, Messi and Villa were great individual talents, but they played like a team.
You can add Bale and Maicon as FB, with Hernanes, Jucelei and Essien in midfield and Ganso or Honda as ATM to the current Milan sqaud and I still think Barcelona will win-unless they have an off day.

As much as I hate Mourinho's gut (thus enjoy very much this humiliating defeat), I have to admit that one scary strength of Mourinho is that he is very smart and learns quickly from mistakes. I am afraid that he will come back even stronger.
Imagine Barca against Milan of the late 80s. Rijkaard+Ancelotti against Xavi+Iniesta, Marco+Gullit against their defense, or Villa+Messi+Pedro against our legendary back four. Must be one hell of a game.

Xavi --- A little man with very less physical strength against huge defensive guys most of the time & comes on top 95% of times
He had more influence in winning the world cup compared to Zidane in 1998. Has won Euros Championships, several La Liga & other competitions & if it wasn't for Jose Mourinho, he would have had 3 UCL medals by now. Now all these achievements are good enough to declare him one of the greatest of all time. Okay i don't agree him being the best CM of all time, but he surely has already surpassed Zidane & Pirlo. Maybe Platini is better, but who else? Maradona, Cryuff, Baggio & Figo were different type of players, L.Mattaus, Davids & Deschamp were defensive beasts, so Xavi has not many players as direct rivals.
By the way, who do you think is best CM of all time?

Are you kidding me? :googly: I read some where, he is getting married in one year time, which means he is already in love with someone. He is marrying in such young age & not late. Marrying after 30 is just formality & for kids. Marrying now means the guy is already romantic in nature.
Note: He can be considered the second greatest of all time at max (ahead of Maldini if you like), because no one ever will surpass DM10 & that is the bottom line of the beautiful game.
Platini was an over-rated french turd playing for a team of cheats at that time too in jube.
Messi vs Zambro is at least 3 goals a half.
Xavi is techically a better passer and has more vision, but lacks the drive or versatility of players like Mattheus or Rijkaard.
Davids was better technically but lacked the vision or longevity to be better.
Iniesta is imo a better player than Xavi.

Mzk is it possible to adore players by only watching youtube players,, i mean no disrespect but to have platini, cruyff, rijkard, matheus, maradona as favorite players means you were watching football since that time,
Dude dont throw names just to impress, you might look stupid especially as some players retired when you were 3 years old, in youtube even materazzi will look like a legend.

First of all whats the point of your post? Old players are not great or Youtube sucks? Secondly there is something called TV & then there are TV channels & some play sports & football. There are documentaries & DVD's etc & ofcourse there are video sites.
Now if I like Maradona after watching matches of 1986, 1990 WCs, highlights of Napoli vs Milan, Juve, Inter etc, then what is your problem with it? Similarly highlights, videos of Euro 1984, WC1990, WC1974 could make any football fan a Platini, Matheus & Cryuff fan respectively (I am not btw). So if you don't like youtube & old players, what can I say. I do.

Dude don't through pointless posts just to impress, you might look stupid especially as most of football fans do you use youtube & similar sites to watch football matches highlights these days.
And btw, youtube or not, Metarazzi is a very good player & will be remembered as the one who scored the goal for Italy in WC final.
I'd say Dragan Stojkovic was this good but the injury and Marseille scandal stopped his carrier.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wozHjtfhBHg
Too bad I haven't seen him do anything in those videos in quite a loooooonnnngggg time....:p286:
However, being that some fans don't have time to sit down and watch all of the Russian League games to watch Honda or all of the Brazilian League games to watch Paulo Henrique (Ganso) or Jucilei or the Portuguese league to watch Coentrao... we have to go with stats, highlight reels, and a few games we see.
From that, I like Jucilei, Coentrao, Van der Wiel, & Ganso...I also like Matri as a 4th striker to replace Inzaghi, because he's big and strong, has proven he can score the past few years in Serie A with a not so great team.
Honda seems to be more of a SS and we have plenty of those...
Liverpool just put in a bid for him to play alongside Torres

Dev, Xavi is a great player, maybe he is not the greatest midfielder of all time, but he certainly is up ther. Btw, I really hate this greatest of all time title, as the games are too different between now and then, and it is quite foolish to compare players in different eras.
As for Barca being unstoppable, they r beatable, but the teams who beat them must have execute a perfect game along with Barca struggling a bit. Frankly, thats hard to come by.
Honda, well, he is an attk mid by nature but he is also very versatile. Personally, I would rather have Honda than Ganso as Honda got a more weel-rounded game than Ganso at this moment.

I agree with you Gabriel on a lot... I also hate the Greatest of All Time Debate. I experience it often in Tennis, as I am very involved in the Tennis World, and comparing guys like Laver to Federer Sampras, Agassi is impossible.
In Football, you also cannot compare guys like Maradona to Messi, Van Basten to Ibra, or today's Barca team with teams of the 50s, 60s, 70s, or 80s.
This Barcelona team is the best team I've ever seen but I have admittedly not watched football more than a decade. They dominate the game with skillfull players who play as a team, and literally keep the ball away from you for most of the game. Villa, Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Alves (and thru the past few years, Ibra, Ronaldinho, Yaya Toure, Eto'o). They go for incredibly skillful players and they play beautiful football, and simply enough, they WIN.
Lastly, I think Milan are 2-3 players from being one of the best teams in the World. We are starting to have more depth, and now with a little more quality in ACM, FB, and CM, we can really expect big things from this team (Multiple Scudetti, and a Champions League)
Honda, is an excellent player, but I'm not sure how he'd fit in. He works very hard, and is very skillfull, great at free kicks, and incredibly quick. He's a lefty, and he's also Japanese which would mean a huge opening to the Asian market and a lot of money that comes with that. However, is Ganso the more fluid, easily adaptable player into Serie A? very possible.

imo .. it looks like if we do the right moves we could be one of the best clubs in europe.. look. on footballpress.net i read that we want to sign fabiano again and its a very big possibility.. not to be unrealistic but i think we should offer 12mill and it should be a respected offer which both clubs can agree on.. secondly elano&galatasary of struck somewhat of a deal to transfer him to santos.. that opens up the door to a ganso-milan transfer very possible.. i dont think neymar will go anywhere until summer or next jan, hes too young imo. and lastly all this stuff about thiago silva coming out and saying we need tos ign david luiz, david luiz this david luiz that i think we will end up signing him.. why wouldnt galliani &co listen to one of our best players? anyhow
david luiz, ganso, fabiano in winter.. get rid of r80 :) we would have an almost completely brazilian team though lol.. to keep all our top class players in the line up we could possibly give ganso a more midfield roll rather then ACM, possibly cm? but im sure he lacks the defensive qualities.. with fabiano there a good goal scorer, imo better then matri we will have a wc squad.. david luiz imo is a better goal then coentrao bcuz hes versatile and atm we need a good cb to fill in for nesta and a full back.. he can play both roles.. when nestas on his game we put david luiz at rb or lb and when hes injured etc we put luiz at cb. our second first choice fullback should aslo be abate..

Would love Jucelei from what I've seen and what you said. But I can't help but feel though that Ganso and Giuliano type players would be more needed at the moment.
From the games I saw Ganso seems pretty amazing, and looks like a unique talent, but of the two I feel like Giuliano would fit in best at the moment. He seems like more of a Kaká type player, and thus I think he would fit into a Ibrahimovic team more. Since I feel Ibrahimovic is best playing in teams that defend deep, don't keep a to much possession etc. This way he can be used to play the ball up on (which he's excellent at cause the ball sticks), and he gets more influence this way (As compared to having to stay in the box).
Btw, whats the deal with Giuliano. I saw him earlier in Libertadores, and he was amazing + his team won, yet I don't hear anything about him over here. I hear loads about Ganso and Neymar though, and even Jucilei is starting to create a bit of a buzz. Just seems weird to me that a player leading his team to the Libertadores doesn't get more buzz.
Imagine Barca against Milan of the late 80s. Rijkaard+Ancelotti against Xavi+Iniesta, Marco+Gullit against their defense, or Villa+Messi+Pedro against our legendary back four. Must be one hell of a game.
I think Milan of 89-90 would win. :3band:
I'd bet on Milan. Best team ever! :)
:3band:
And by even stronger you mean buying star-players for another billion? :)
That too. :grinser:

Dev, Xavi is a great player, maybe he is not the greatest midfielder of all time, but he certainly is up ther. Btw, I really hate this greatest of all time title, as the games are too different between now and then, and it is quite foolish to compare players in different eras.
As for Barca being unstoppable, they r beatable, but the teams who beat them must have execute a perfect game along with Barca struggling a bit. Frankly, thats hard to come by.
Honda, well, he is an attk mid by nature but he is also very versatile. Personally, I would rather have Honda than Ganso as Honda got a more weel-rounded game than Ganso at this moment.
greatest of all time title certainly not aplicable anymore, i agree with reasons mentioned here, But one thing is for sure that Barca is one different level to others, Jose will remember forever the humiliation on El-Classico night

I would like to think Milan of 89-90 will beat Barca today but it is something that we will never know.
I think that loss is probably JM greatest defeat and quite frankly, what impresses me the most of how the Real board and fans did not start calling for his head. I am pretty sure if that it was any other coach, he would probably be fired by now. Or the board and the fans also saw how great Barcelona is.

Xavi has never, and never will be asked to dominate a midfield on his own. He has always played with guys like Iniesta, Toure, Keita, Busquets and Alonso, all of which help him a great deal on the pitch.
To compare Xavi to Zidane is a null argument. Zidane in '98 carried the French attack himself as back then the attack was very weak compared to the rest of the squad. In 2006, Zidane again essentially carried the French team to the World cup final, as the whole team was poor. Xavi, whilst world class and undeniably influential, has never had that much responsibility on his shoulders. Since his status in the game grew, he has always played with a lot of quality players. In Barca, he's always had Dinho, Villa, Messi, Iniesta, Toure, Busquets, Henry, Ibra etch around him. In Spain, Villa, Torres, Iniesta, Alonso, Fabregas (sometimes) etc.
Xavi has definitely not surpassed Zidane and Pirlo imo. I've already debated about Pirlo and Xavi elsewhere on the forum, and Zidane I personally think was superior in pretty much every aspect. Don't get me wrong, Xavi is a brilliant player and worthy of being called an all time great, but not THE greatest.
I don't have a preference for the greatest CM ever, individuals are too unique and varied to be labelled as such.

Most of my points on Xavi are covered above. I don't really disagree with you.

Don't get me wrong, I respect you opinion, but how can you say Zidane is better than Xavi? If Xavi has world class players around him, then so did Zidane. Deschamp, Vieira, Makelele will always be remembered as among the best DM of the last 2 decades. Then there were the likes of Petit, Pires, & Ribbery. And of-course the partnership of Henry & Trezeguet upfront. You can't ask for more than that. I personally think Zidane is over ratted to some extent with all due respect to him. Xavi is slightly better than him & more importantly his consistency is amazing. I used to see Real Madrid matches almost every weekend when they had Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo etc & honestly, Zidane's last 3 years at Real (out of 5) produced nothing special. He was just hot & cold, hit & miss.
As for Pirlo, it simple, both are 30 years old & look at the difference between them. Pirlo's period was 2002-07, its over now. Pirlo is hardly doing any good these days & Xavi is producing match winning battles on every weekend. You see how simply a clown like Par Ji Sung out played Pirlo last year. It was embarrassing to see. Have you ever seen any one man marking Xavi completely out of the game? Be honest & I am sure your answer will be 'no'. On the other hand, all the opposition coach has to do is to man-mark Pirlo & it then he looks like a lost kid on the field. A true great midfielder shouldn't be man marked that easily & successfully out of the game.
My point is simple, if the list of best midfielders is made, Xavi should be at least above Zidane & Pirlo
I just want to say two things.
1. Xavi always had his twin brother Iniesta on the field to help him, that's why it is impossible to mark him out of the game. When Pirlo had Seedorf at left midfield, he also was superior to everybody (2002-2007)
2. Galliani is very quiet lately, I think he's working on bringing Cassano. He's free, and you know Galliani's got a hard on for free players. :)
Galliani WAS quiet until today ...
He said if Manchester City wants to sell Balotelli, Milan will be for sure the first club to try to get him and that if someday, Ibra and Balotelli play again together, it will be in Milan.
Several rumours nowadays:
- from Spain, Milan deals with Madrid to get Kaka' back
- from Spain, Luis Fabiano is again one of our targets (will it never end ?)
- from Portugal, David Luiz could really leave Benfica this winter and we're the favourites to get him
- from France, we sent a scout to watch Gameiro from Lorient
- from Italy, we'll probably try to get Cassano this winter
- from Belgium, Lukaku is our target for this summer
What we can learn from all these rumours is that we're heavily linked with attacking players (without forgetting we're regularly linked with Ganso too) ... does that mean we'll get one or more defenders ? :D
Other rumours of the last few days/weeks:
- a club is interested by Oddo (Marseille because Azpilicueta is injured I think, and they want an experienced player who is not expensive or even free)
- I read that if Pirlo doesn't renew his contract with us, he will go in Barcelona (which would allow all of you to compare him to Xavi ...)
About Xavi, Pirlo, Zidane, and co ... Firstly, how can Zidane be compared to these players ? They don't/didn't play in the same position on the field, they didn't have the same role. Zidane was an AM. Pirlo and Xavi are not AMs (Pirlo was but never in Milan, for Xavi, I don't know), they are CMs and for Pirlo, he even has to play so much in the back that he looks like a DM. Xavi has Iniesta on his left, Messi in front of him on the right, and Villa who moves a lot, he never makes long passes, only short passes to these players who always move and give him solutions, and I don't mention Alves coming from behind on his right too.
Pirlo in the last few years (this year, we don't know, he hasn't played since the team started to be solid) ? If we take the example of last year, he had Ambrosini who was defensive minded on his left/right, Seedorf that everybody tended to call Slowdorf on this forum (that means what that means), and our formation forced him to only try long passes towards Pato who never came back to help the midfielders last year (or Huntelaar with Pato injured) on the right, Borriello in the centre or Ronaldinho on the left. Put Xavi in the Milan of 2007-2010 and everybody would have said that he was finished ...
With the current Milan, I predict that Pirlo will slowly turn to be great again (I don't know if you noticed that in Italy, he was always good, even when he was really bad with us).
Agree 100% to ACMILAN1983............ZIDANE to be compared with XAVI is rubbish......he literally single handedly carried france to the ultimate trophy....to me he wil be in the all time world team...!!!!

david luiz link is getting stronger------hope rui costa & galliani sit together to settle it out...god he will be a great signing
cassano, balotelli, fabiano -------------to me except for cassano (who is free), all others are a no go....fabiano isnt cheap, balo will disrupt the milan family environment(also not cheap as well)...i guess santa cruz will be good...he has got good experience & is a good striker with an eye for goal if in a good team...
adding d.luiz, santa cruz, pastore/kaka & poli will complete our squad...........i wud rather sell pirlo, seedorf, r80, janku, oddo, papasthapoulos, onyewu

My point is simple, if the list of best midfielders is made, Xavi should be at least above Zidane & Pirlo
Zidane in '98 didn't have any real world class attacking talents with him, and this was my point, he had much more responsibility in that side than Xavi has ever had. In 2006, France were a shambolic team and Zidane took the responsiblity to essentially manage the side in the world cup. Both of these teams had some great players, but without Zidane it is very unlikely either team would have had it's success. Xavi is a consistent player, but to compare his consistency to Zidane's latter years in the Galacticos is a pointless argument, especially when you consider the state and differences of their respective sides. It's difficult to compare 2 players from different eras who played different roles, but from an individual perspective, I see Zidane as a superior player to Xavi, although Xavi fits better into the current Barca set up than Zidane would.
Pirlo and Xavi also shouldn't be compared. As Geo said it's difficult to compare 2 players in different positions. More pressing is also Pirlo has been playing in a poor Milan side for a few years now, normally in a role that's left him exposed to opposition counters. I have absoloutely no doubt that Xavi in the same position would suffer just as much (if not more). To say Pirlo isn't doing good anymore is an incorrect statement. Pirlo, as an individual is still as useful as ever and this is evident in his statistics when he plays. Man Utd's success in marking out him last season was a weakness in our collective system, and not something that can and should be attributed to Pirlo alone. Xavi has never been put in a position like this and therefore we never see him suffer this way. It's not just down to Xavi that he's successful, but a big aspect must be attributed to the fact that he plays in a superb team which works well within it's system. Same goes for Pirlo, who always played within a system with good players at his best. This all means we have to compare Xavi and Pirlo as I did Xavi and Zidane, in their individual skills and qualities. In this respect, I really don't feel Xavi is at all superior to Pirlo.

Personally, unless Pirlo plays in the ATM spot, he is not going to play at all, as the three DMs/CMs are what Milan needs as long as Ibra is controlling the play upfront.
Gabriel489
01-12-2010, 11:21
IMO, Pirlo's position on the field is very unique and it is a position that did not have any other players who played before him. As his plays in thhe DM spot, right in front of the defense, but yet he is not a defensive stopper, rather he is a passer/distributer of the team. He is not a CM as he does not run box to box, rather he sits just outside the box to make passes to left and right. The closest players I could think of are guys like Zico and Socartes in the 80s for Brazil as both of them just switch their Midfield role in the games as they Were just that talented. Thus, really no point comparing Porlo as he is just very unique, kind of like Ibra too, someone who has the size and skill of a crashing/power CF but plays like a no. 10.
As for Xavi, he is a textbook CM. Someone who runs box to box and make pass...

Very interesting debate and I actually agree with all sides of the argument.
Xavi DOES have phenomenal players around him who "move" off the ball constantly. I also tend to think Zidane had some pretty good players himself, but not the level of today and yesterday's Barcelona.
Pirlo does not have players who run off the ball, but neither does he (something xavi does do).... Xavi scores more often than Pirlo.
Very complicated debate, but I do think Pirlo is finished or close to it. I'd be very surprised if he can all of a sudden lift his level to 02-07.
As for Transfer Rumors which is what this thread it about, we certainly have a lot.
I do not want Balotelli, Cassano.
I'd prob rather Roque Santa Cruz. Then Ganso, Jucilei, D. Luiz, and Coentrao:D
We seem to not be linked with Jucilei anymore. Probably Milan feels their midfield is strong. I don't know why we're linked with so many attackers. We only need 1 striker, and 1 ACM. Then FB's and a CB!

I think Jucelei will come to Milan in winter and once Pirlo is gone, Hernanes will come too. Add David Luiz at the back and Ganso upfront. u pretty much have Wc14 team of Brazil. Maybe once Real signs Bale, they will let Milan sign Marcelo.

I think Santa Cruz as a free may be an option but has he played for City in the Europa ??? we need someone who can impact in Europe and there honestly is no better option than Pippo nobody does what he does in Europe .Im liking the rumours and do believe that in the next 10 months we'll change alot but stay the same play wise and be set for 5-6 years even Ibra he can stay forever...

Galliani on the official website said that if milan will move, it will be on a striker, and the striker will have to be EU because of the new regulations by Serie A. He literally said "if we buy a striker, he will hold an EU passport".
I dont understand - I thought Robinho has a Spanish passport and we still have a Non-EU spot free? Was Galliani doing that on purpose to trick the reporters? Or has Galliani already signed a Non-EU player for midfield/defence? Or have we already used the Non-EU spot on some crap player like Adiyiah (maybe Rodrigo Ely)?

Well, I think Galli learned his lesson about always saving a non EU spot. Beside, Milan needs a 4th choice striker and probably will someone quite average instead of a top stud. Wasting a non EU spot on a part time player is just stupid. I guess he finally learned his lesson from the past.

You don't see a new CB as vital? If Nesta leaves a CB will be top priority imo.
To get a non-EU striker in January is acceptable if we don't buy any other non-EU player. As far as I know, 1 non-EU per season is the rule, so if we don't use it this season, we won't get 2 spot for non-EU transfer for next season.
About transfer, we can actually get all three brasilians; Luiz, Jucilei and Ganso. Only Jucilei has no EU-pass If I remember correctly.
Any one, is Kaka coming back? Any hope of getting the Prince back?

I still think now Xavi has become a better player than Zidane & Pirlo & ACMILAN1983, few years back I heard about something like the 1998 world cup wiing French team was declared the 3rd best team in the world cup history behind Brazil-1970 & Germany-1990 or Germany-1974 (can't remember exactly). 2006 WC french team was full of legends as well :sun:

France 98 was nothing more than a fully defensive team playing on counter against the best teams, with one extra player in the midfeld (Zidane) and promising strikers.
IMO, France 98 = Greece 2004 but with more defensive talent and Zidane.
And it's because of the way France played at that time that their hardest games were against Paraguay (1-0 in extra-time, Laurent Blanc scoring) and Croatia (Thuram scoring). They also won during the penalties session against Italy after a 0-0 score.
In final, it's Zidane (twice) and Petit who scored.
All that shows that the strikers weren't that important in that team as in the most important games, they were unable to score (no goal from the 1/8 finals to the final).
The attack line was Henry, Trezeguet, Dugarry and Guivarch. In 1998, it wasn't great at all !! Oh, and Diomčde too ... :D
Henry and Trezeguet exploded then, for the Euro 2000.

It's your opinion and you're entitled to it. The 1998 French team was brilliant, full of legends, but there was no question it also had a weak attack, with the exception of Zidane. I say this watching the team first hand. The 2006 side had a lot of big names, but that side played poorly and had an idiot in charge (Domenech). Yes Certainly Nesta will end his career in Milan, and that season will be this season or next. Milan needs to carry on its tradition of having a TOP class Center Back pairing...
So Yes! We need to buy or create from our youth system a CB who will be able to partner Thiago Silva, our CB of the future.
However, besides David Luiz, who has shown very mixed performances, I don't know who else of high quality is really available. A year or so ago our dream was to bring Sergio Ramos here, but that will for sure not happen. While I am for bringing Brazilians or any other nationality of players to Milan, I also can't help but admit I wish not to turn into Inter Merda, but rather keep an Italian identity, especially in Defense if possible.
I think we need a FB, as Abate, Zambro, and Antonini are NOT good enough on any front (Europe or Serie A).
We also need an ACM (Attacking Central Midfielder) to replace Ronaldinho who will in all likelyhood leave along with the aging Clarence Seedorf and even Andrea Pirlo. Also, a 4th Striker (penalty box) is also important as it seems Inzaghi may be finito.
We really have a lot of issues to clear up, which I've noted many times, however, for JANUARY, I see FB, ACM, and Striker as more of a priority that will give an instantaneous boost, then in the summer, when we have more time, we'll need a CB.
We can't get a CB in January who is World Class and throw him on the bench... that won't happen, that's why I'm saying in the Summer.

Honestly, i think ZZ only had two maybe three god games in WC98, but since he had his best game in the finals, people thought he did great and led the team. I think he showed what he was capable of in WC06 as he really led the team and was the WC best player. Sadly, he will be remembered as a hero and one of the best player due to WC98 while also the head butt in WC06.
Modern players (80s and on) have rarely gained reputations based on NT play, there are exceptions of course. Ask 100 people who rate Zidane highly and I guarantee you at least 75 mention club form.
Just saying :)

Guys this is the "MERCATO" thread isn't it? Zidane and Xavi both great CM's but let's talk about the January Transfer window please...
Goal.com never explains any of their articles. I never understand what they are saying. Why does Galliani keep saying we DON'T have a NON-EU spot available??? Can someone please clarify if he's LYING as usual or if he's right. If he's right, then all of you people who said ROBINHO has a Spanish Passport were wrong.... It's not hard to believe Galliani is lying, but how come no one from the Media calls him out. And STUPID Goal.com don't explain the situation. And hysterically, no one on this board has even questioned it.
Galliani said " we're covered in all areas besides Striker".... Oh really??? at LB we're covered??? haha I don't mind if he wants to play games with the media, but he sounds like an idiot sometimes.

Agreed. In terms of quality nothing that Messi and Xavi are doing now that Dinho didn't do in the past. Barca completely outplayed Madrid as a unit and among others those two players stood out. But the single greatest performance by an individual player in El Classico is that of Dinho when he scored a brace and was so spectacular that the Bernabeu crowds gave him a standing ovation when he was taken out. That speaks volume of his display that night. He is responsible for his premature downfall in the latter years but I think we and people as the whole tend to forget that quite easily.

And speaking about forgetting, if Galliani sounds like an idiot sometimes then he must be doing it on purpose. Several months ago he (and Braida) came out saying that the defense were all set with the addition of Yepes and Sokratis, and so were the attacking department. As it turned out later, he was discussing about Ibra's transfer and later on Robinho. And in case you forgot, we bought them both at discount prices. Now look at what those two have been doing so far for us. Not a bad job for an idiot huh?
And to address your concern for our fullback, yesterday Braida admitted that we've been following Van der Wiel for some time and he has convinced us of his quality. Braida also spoke highly of Jan Vertonghen but the he said that our priority is a striker, not defenders. "Yeah, yeah, he's good. But we don't really need him." Now doesn't that ring the bell?

Thanks for posting this article. It's rare to see a well written piece on goal.com and the writer makes a lot of valid arguements. The hype around Xavi and Barca since El Classico has been going overboard.
To get a backup of Pippo, it's Paloschi, I know he's injured.
To get a striker who can cover the loss of both Pato and Pippo, go for Dzeko, I know he's expensive and non EU.
An addition of a class in between won't make sense. If Pato is still injury prone and something happens to Ibra, our run for any trophy this season is over.

Xavi is great player no doubt yet you seem to forget something. he plays in world's best team, with the likes of Dani Alves, Messi, iniesta, Villa. in Spanish NT he plays with Ramos, Torres, Silva more...From my time, i didnt see Rijkaard play, so its not justice to rate him.
Davids was better player than Xavi for example or Patrick Vieria was better player than Xavi. Xavi is perfect player for Barcelona and Spanish NT yet he is not the best. okay he can be in top 10 of all times and deserves to be there...

It would be a waste by us to bring Paloschi back as 4th choice striker, as it's a role where he won't get a huge amount of playing time (which he needs), and more importantly cannot benefit his development. A bigger problem is he's not been playing much at Parma in the past year or so either, which I fear will affect his growth.
When we get Paloschi back, I want to bring back a player who is ready to take on a lot more responsibility at Milan.

Still talking about this stupid Xavi debate which is pointless...
When Galliani says we won't buy a non-EU striker, that doesn't mean we don't have the non-EU spot anymore, that just means he wants an "European" (or non European but playing in Europe since enough time to have an European nationality, or any non European player playing in Italy) striker ...
Why ? 2 possible reasons ...
1) if the guy has an European nationality for example, that means he has played in Europe for some years, so no need for him to adapt to the way teams play in Europe nor to adapt to a new lifestyle as it's more or less the same in Spain, Italy, France, ... By saying such a thing, Galliani says that he wants a player ready to help right now and not in 6 months.
One word to sup up this reason: experience.
2) Galliani maybe has another deal involving a non-EU player in sight, so we simply can't buy another non-EU player.
How about bringing in Diego Milito as a replacement for Inzaghi? He isn't happy at Inter & 30 years old, so not many clubs would be keeping an eye on him. The most important thing, what a clinical finisher when happy

How to say it simply ...
No way !!
:D
It's impossible, that can't happen, and personnally, I don't want him.
I don't know why, but my feeling about that is that we will go for Trezeguet on loan for a last call in a big club (a bit like Larson did despite returning in his first club in Sweden just before), or a young player nobody here thinks about ...

I think we need to consider realistically who we can get and will be able to do what we want. Fundamentally, the criteria I see as key for the new forward are:
1) Must be a goalscorer as right now we have only Pato who is known for his scoring qualities, and he's out till January as well.
2) The player must be able to accept the bench. With Ibra, Pato and possibly even Robinho ahead of him, the new forward may struggle to find much space.
3) The player must be an impact player. This means it doesn't matter if the player isn't great, but he must be good if coming off the bench. This is what made Pippo so special, whether he started or came off the bench, you knew he'd get a chance when on the pitch.
With these criteria I find the third a particularly important one. Guys like Matri might seem ideal in many respects, but I'm interested to know if he can come off the bench to change the course of a game. If he can't, then ultimately he would be deemed a failure.
I don't have a name in mind at this point, but if I was in Galliani's shoes, then these are the criteria I'd be thinking of.

It will probably be a veteran or my fav, Macarrone, as he is big and strong, will give his best playing for Milan and most importantly he fits the bill as a rental player.
We need a 4th striker to replace Pippo, so this man should be like him: sub, can score, class, experience :D
The contract should be a loan with an option to buy, so we could have him for 1, 2 years more or let him go in June to... renew Pippo :D
I've thought of some name: Fabiano, Adriano, Sheva ^^, Raul, Nistelrooy, Morientes, Trezegue,... to none :D

Well goal.com is more shi.ier than ever. Who'd the f.ck is Carlo Garganese?! Do you guys know how old is he? 26. 26! And he's suddenly able to the Xavi is the greatest midfielder of all-time! Who'd f.ck he has seen?!
Well, I'm as old as Garganese, I've seen a lot of players in 15-16 years I've been watching football, plus some footage from before then, and I can tell you that Xavi is not at level Pirlo was at his prime.
Xavi always had great players around him, and you can see that without Iniesta (who's better player imo), he can't do a sh.t. Last year against Inter, he wasn't capable to put one good pass for his strikers against the team with a man down. I've seen numerous occasion when D. Alves got behind Eto'o on the right and Xavi was unable to play a simple long ball Pirlo could coolly play on his average day.
I'm not a big fan of "Man he carried his team to the world cup crown on his own" type of sentences, but REALLY Pirlo took Italy to the world cup crown OWNING the midfield with the players like Gattuso and Perrotta around him.
Then regarding Zidane, another overrated player imo, you said '98 WC, well he almost didn't play till the finals, when he scored two goals. To say he carried France all the way to the title is ridiculous. Totti was better player imo. When you consider how great passer he was (just passer, not to mention striker capabilities!), you need to take his brilliant vision (you can really talk about the best of all-time in that view) and the CONSISTENCY in doing this. Totti played a no-look killer passes on weekly basis 5 years before Ronaldinho shook up the world with his occasional no-look passes.
Just look at this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHiv3JngHoU
Pay attention to 1:05, it's probably the greatest one-touch pass of all-time.
To conclude, there were always "stars" who got all media attention, and "quiet" players who were more brilliant. Iniesta, Pirlo, Totti are just some examples.
Agreed with Revolver.
I used to think you must be much older :D
i have to agree on the Totti part....
i truly think this guy, with all the fame he has in Italy, still did not get the acknowledgement he deserves on the international level.
Not to take anything from Zidane, but i always thought Totti was a better player, unfortunately he did not win as much as Zidane did as he decided to play only for Roma, not Juve & Real...and although he won a WC, I always thought that come 2002, Totti will be the absolute star of that WC and get Italy to the title, but we all know what happened there (i will have the urge to kill that referee till as long as i live)
As for Totti's passing, not only he can do that blind pass regularly, the % of success on it is phenomenal, I don't know any other player who can that better and his passes were always unbelievably accurate and for the most part decisive
i dreamed for him playing for Milan for years...i know he has built a legacy at Roma and has probably already become their best player ever but I am not sure if he doesn't regret not leaving them
Anyway, I love this guy and he is still the reason I watch Roma matches

If you go by stats, probably Zidane seems to have the best of an ACM, but he also played on great teams (France, Juventus, Real Madrid)... he scored in Champions League Final, he made 2 finals with Juventus, he won numerous league titles, won a Euro & World Cup, and made the final of 2006 in which he carried the team...
Xavi and Pirlo are not players who have those sort of credentials, and Xavi has played on Barcelona which is in my opinion the best team I've ever seen
(**For the record, I'm also only 26, so I have not seen much**)
Totti is great and a Roma Legend, an Italian legend, but because he never won Champions League (not even a final or close), he's won 1 Scudetto.. and a World Cup (that was largely based off of their defense) he could never be considered a GOAT in my opinion.
Take a guy like Maradona, who won Scudetto with Napoli with scrubs on the team, and a World Cup single handedly, now that's a level above.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for Milan, we have 4 more games and then I want to see what we do in January. I'm fine if we don't make many moved, assuming we'll make 3-4 moves in Summer 2011. I think Milan will buy or loan a striker (Roque Santa Cruz).... more probably loan, and then make a full strong Mercato in the Summer....
Totti is great and a Roma Legend, an Italian legend, but .............
If you mean Seria-A legend, then yes, but I don't don't think he will be remembered as Italian NT legend like Baggio, Maldini & Cannavaro
Take a guy like Maradona, who won Scudetto with Napoli with scrubs on the team, and a World Cup single handedly, now that's a level above.
Actually two Scudetti & 2nd place finishes ;)
I follow the forum regularly but haven't had the time to post because of school commitments..but this Xavi topic is too juicy to pass up even though I feel like I've spoken about this before.
Having watched 90% of Barcelona's games over the last 4 years..and 99.9999% of Milan's games over the last 6-7 years, I can safely say that Xavi > Pirlo for me (Iniesta is a completely different type of player). The reason for that is simple.
As far as i'm concerned, when rating players the most important thing is consistency. Pirlo is a great player no doubt..and there's games where his passing is absolutely heavenly and a joy to watch. However, Xavi is able to do it week in, week out over the course of a long season and the stats are there to show it as well. He has a wider variety of weapons in his arsenal, scores more and assists more. People say Xavi is part of a great team..as if the 2003-2007 Milan team or the WC 2006 team were such HORRIBLE teams for Pirlo to play in. Great players will always be part of great teams with great supporting cast. The fact that he's STILL able to shine amidst all those amazing players says a lot about his quality.
I could go into the details as to why I think he's better but when players are that good, it comes down to personal preference (and in some cases..personal bias). Most Milan fans you ask may say Pirlo..while most Barcelona fans will probably say Xavi and the cycle never ends. Kinda like the Messi vs C. Ronaldo debate. Xavi was one of those stars who never got the attention due to him but since 2007-2008 he's been getting it and it's well deserved after years of consistent performances.

Zidane's contribution during '98 was important. It wasn't just the final but the fact that he had so much responsibility given the quality of his attacking partners throughout the tournament. More importantly, if we're talking about the quality of the player then Zidane must be viewed for what he did also at Euro 2000 (he was almost unstoppable in that tournament) and also at club level. He is an all time great, this shouldn't be denied.
Speaking of Totti, I think he's one of the great talents of his generation, but I do feel he's never achieved at the highest level as he should have. For Roma he's a brilliant player, but 90% of his brilliance is only seen in Serie A. He's not achieved the same level of success in European competitions. Same goes at International level with Italy, where for all his genius he's never really shone for the Italian team.

I would be repeating myself if I go into depth about your arguments, but let me ask you does Xavi actually score more than Pirlo? I remembered you brought up this argument before and checked out the stats. From what I saw Pirlo had a better goals to game ratio than Xavi, despite playing in a deeper role for most of his career. That said not all statistics seem consistent, but what was notable there wasn't a big difference between the number of goals scored between the two according to all sources.
The positions they play also disreputes the whole argument of assists too. Maybe (I've not checked the stats) Xavi has assisted more goals than Pirlo, but the two players play in different positions, with Pirlo being deeper, so I expect Xavi to naturally have more assists.

talking about Inzaghi replacements, why has no one mentioned Pazzini?? this guy is too good for Sampdoria, I am pretty sure he will end up at Juve next year
Regarding the Pirlo vs Xavi debate, its a tough call, they are both exceptional. Xavi has been more consistent but Pirlo has had more wow moments, such as his spectacular random long range goals and his fks. Both players have excellent vision, both are good readers of the game and tactically minded. Xavi is better with the ball at his feet and thinks quicker, Pirlo is more deliberate. In his prime Pirlos vision and ability to read the game was second to none.

Just went to soccernet to check out the stats although like you said, some sites record assists differently from others but I guess this would give us a decent idea of a comparison between the two. Soccernet history goes back to 01/02 season so I'll start from there. I'll only include totals from league, local cup and European cup action.
01/02 Season:
Pirlo: 11 games started, 16 games subbed. 2 goals 0 assists
Xavi: 31 games started, 7 games subbed. 4 goals 0 assists
02/03 Season:
Pirlo: 32 games started, 8 games subbed. 9 goals 0 assists
Xavi: 43 games started, 0 games subbed. 3 goals 0 assists
03/04 Season:
Pirlo: 40 games started, 2 games subbed. 7 goals 0 assists
Xavi: 42 games started, 4 games subbed. 5 goals 0 assists
04/05 Season:
Pirlo: 37 games started, 4 games subbed. 5 goals 0 assists
Xavi: 44 games started, 0 games subbed. 3 goals 0 assists
05/06 Season:
Pirlo: 42 games started, 2 games subbed. 5 goals 1 assists
Xavi: 18 games started, 2 games subbed. 0 goals 1 assists
06/07 Season:
Pirlo: 48 games started, 4 games subbed. 3 goals 9 assists
Xavi: 41 games started, 7 games subbed. 5 goals 4 assists
07/08 Season:
Pirlo: 40 games started, 1 games subbed. 5 goals 11 assists
Xavi: 46 games started, 3 games subbed. 9 goals 7 assists
08/09 Season:
Pirlo: 29 games started, 0 games subbed. 2 goals 2 assists
Xavi: 47 games started, 4 games subbed. 9 goals 27 assists
09/10 Season:
Pirlo: 41 games started, 4 games subbed. 1 goals 4 assists
Xavi: 44 games started, 4 games subbed. 6 goals 17 assists
10/11 Season:
Pirlo: 13 games started, 2 games subbed. 1 goals 1 assists
Xavi: 14 games started, 2 games subbed. 2 goals 3 assists
Like I said, overall Xavi chalked up more assists than Pirlo over the course of the decade although the goals scored are pretty similar. Pirlo has an edge in that regard given that he took the majority of our direct free kicks. You say that they play in different positions but I don't think that's entirely true. They both start from deep but Xavi ensures to push up more and support the attack while Pirlo tends to sit back and dictate play from behind.
In the end though, it will never be clear cut because they are both amazing players with excellent vision and passing ability. I would choose Xavi because he ensures to get forward more and as a result enables himself to have more of a direct impact on the game.

Pirlo won the world cup in 2006, and CL in 2007, by that time he was easily a much better player than Xavi - actually by far and away, and it was not only the statistics, but his presence on the field was far more important than Xavi.
Since 2007, Milan has not invested in the midfield and their midfielders were growing older and lazier, the attack was also pretty bad, and to be fair Pirlo has also dropped a great deal and has been terrible as he grew older. Xavi on the other hand got a new player playing beside him who is probably only second to Maradona, and Barcelona kept investing and investing and bringing out great youth talents in a complete squad.
The real thing you guys are neglecting to see is that Milan post 2007 have been a pathetic club run by a pathetic management, while Barcelona were ideal and provided the excellent squad to shine.
The 27 assists are a clear indication showing that it was more the team performing amazing that Xavi himself. If you had Pirlo in Barca and Xavi here, what do you think would happen? I think Xavi would flop like any other player but Pirlo would definitely not flop at Barca.
Just my 2 cents.

You make great points. I merely posted the Stats just to see them, but I don't hold Stats as the Prime importance when judging a player's career.
Pirlo however, would not be as good on Barcelona as they do not play long ball, they play mostly on the ground and they all run off the ball, Pirlo does not..
Well goal.com is more shi.ier than ever. Who'd the f.ck is Carlo Garganese?! Do you guys know how old is he? 26. 26! And he's suddenly able to the Xavi is the greatest midfielder of all-time! Who'd f.ck he has seen?!
Agreed. This is the same Carlo Garbage who after our first several games last year claimed that this was the worst Milan in 25 years. This guy sure loves bombast

What's even funnier is that this Carlo Garganese is not only 26, but he's British.. He has a thick British accent like someone from Liverpool, I can barely understand him.. I thought he was Italian :ilol:
He's been pretty good when discussing Italian National Team though.. he was a huge advocate for Cassano-Balotelli-Pazzini

Watch the forth striker will be Robbie Keane
I watched the Barca Real game again earlier today. It got me thinking, imagine David Luiz and Adraino are coming to Milan in Jan. Then Ganso and Jucelei are signed in the summer. Real somehow threw Marcelo to us due to getting Bale. Then Hernanes finally come to Milan after one great season with Lazio.
Milan will then be the Brazilian national team in 2011-12
Abbiatti
Abate-T. Silva-Luiz-Marcelo
Jucelei-Hernanes
Pato-Ganso-Robinho
Ibra
Thats 8 Brazilians with Adraino off the Bench

You dream too much. We only have one non-EU spot during our stansfer windows, and the unused ones from the previous year does not get carried over.
Even if we do manage to sign more than 2 non-EU players in a year, theres no way we're going to get the whole Brazilian team in.
Milan has and always will be a team that plays to its Italian roots first, meaning we tend to look within the penninsula for replacements first before we look elsewhere. If we did otherwise, then we'd end up like Merda-rgentina. I think max we get are David Luiz (only because he's playing in Europe already) and Jucelei. You can dream all you want, but we're not going to be able to afford Hernanes, specially when Lolitto won't sell.
Plus, with Leo gone, I'd be less inclined to think we'll be gunning for any Brazilians unless they've made a name for themselves already in Europe (like Binho).
And in the event that something like that happens..... just think of the havoc it would cause us when they all go for international duty..... 8 starters gone, just like that (9 if you include Ibra for Sweden) :uhm:

First off, no offense to Italian players at the moment, but most of them just ain't that good anymore. I mean beside De Rossi and Pirlo(if he is 100% and motivated), I really can't name another WC Italian Midfielder or someone who has the potential to be one. Cassano, Pazzini, G. Rossi and Mario could be WC attacking players but they are not there yet. Actually, Cassano is there. As for defense, I actually rate David Luiz higher than Bonnuci, Racchoinia and Santacroce.
Secondly, I think only Jucelei will require that non-EU spot, as Luiz should have a Portugal passport same goes for Marcelo with Spain, while Hernanes and Adraino are already playing in Serie A. As for Ganso, I think he got a IT passport from his grandparents.
Thirdly, international duty is the same all around no matter which international players you have.

MNews reports that Braida is still in South America and specifically in Argentina.
Man how I love to have his job.
He is the most useless transfer director and gets paid and returns nothing. He might get lucky and pick one transfer right but all he does is goes to South America every year (on Milans expense) and go to soccer games and scouts players like Mattioni, Grimi, Cardacio, Viudez and now Montelongo.
When will this guy really get someone like Ganso?
If he finds a Pato in every 3 years, will you take him?
Also, you might be assuming that he is not behind any of the recent successful transfer (and only remember those that he fails).
Not saying that your argument is invalid; just presenting the other side of view.

First of, I think Leo found Pato. Secondly, Pato was an up and comer in Brazil where Milan was only one of the many teams looking at him.
If guys like Grimi, and Viudez became Bale and Messi, then Braida will get the credits as no other big teams were even looking at those two while Milan signed them.
Having said all that, I still think he is good at what he does or else he won't be working for Milan for so long, but I doubt he is a great though.

Would love Jucelei from what I've seen and what you said. But I can't help but feel though that Ganso and Giuliano type players would be more needed at the moment.
First of all, sorry but just now I saw your post, Christian.
Youīre right, we really need a #10... But Ganso is injured and will not help us soon enough, plus his price will be Neymarīs like. Ganso(if health) is worth a lot of money and I really donīt believe Santos will accept(only) 15 millions for one of the best talents Brazil produced in the last 20 years.
I hope, but still donīt believe we will have the money to buy Ganso. It would be amazing to have our own "Zidane", but with our police and the money directed to Ibra/Robinho, I canīt see Silvio spending that much again...
Ganso right now is the best player, no doubt. But I will be glad with both.
Still canīt figure it out too, Christian...
At first, like with Jucilei, the buzz about Giuliano here was pretty small... Only a few journalists hyped him. After the Libertadores(if Iīm not wrong he was the MVP, even as a sub) the hype got bigger, but not to the point he deserve. Maybe a few points can explain this:
- He doesnīt play in a São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro team.
- Play out of position to make room for Dīalessandro and Tinga.
- He was amazing in Libertadores, but didnīt play that well in Brasileirão.
Like you said, itīs realy weird. Hernanes also, at the time he was playing for S. Paulo, got more hype from European than Brazilian press... Thats the trend in Brazil now(imo), to underrate our own players and I think the same will happen with Giuliano...

I want in this order:
1. Coentrao
2. Ganso
3. Matri
4. Jucilei
5. Balotelli
*Not convinced on D. Luiz yet..
brasileiro..what do you think of Luiz? Sure we can find an Italian defender cheaper and as good as him,.. no??
David Luiz is amazing, Elmago...
More cheaper you can find, but of the same talent, I really doubt. Sure I
donīt know all Italian yougnsters CBīs, but of the ones playing in Serie A, canīt see one of the level of D. Luiz. Heīs in a bit of slump this season, but just look at his play against Argentina facing Messi and Iguain in our(Brazil NT) last game. Thereīs a reason why Chelsea, R. Madrid, Barįa and M. City were scouting him for years...
But donīt buy the hype about him as a LB. People and press like to say he can be a LB but I donīt agree. He can play some games there to help, but heīs too big to play as fullback in a regular basis and can be exposed against some wingers.
As Brazilian I can be labeled biased, but you just can ask to Benfica fans what they think about David Luiz. The guy is amazing and imo can(will) be better than T. Silva when he reach 26.
Btw, I just finish to read a Brazilian magazine with a article about his path until Benfica. Amazing and weird story...
Corithians is selling Elias to Spain this week, and the vice-president said they will hold Jucilei to play Libertadores. So, unless some club pay a good amount of money, Corinthians will only sell him in August.

Take a guy like Maradona, who won Scudetto with Napoli with scrubs on the team, and a World Cup single handedly, now that's a level above.
Sorry, man...
But this is said a lot and it isnīt true. Maradona CF in Napoli was only the "scrub" Careca, one of the best CF Brazil ever produced. Also, there was Alemão who was a starter for Brazil, too. And more players also that played for Italy NT.
I feel free to talk about Maradona at Napoli because I watched all those games live here in Brazil. Bandeirantes TV(open) started to show Serie A again at that time, and the Napoli of Maradona and Careca was always one of the choices to be live on TV here.
That was the time when I became a Milan fan, and Maradona was really amazing and a joy to watch, but this scrub argument isnīt fair. He didnīt play in a Milan level type of squad, but this argumente that he won titles with scrubs around him isnīt true. Maradona was incredible, but Napoli wasnīt a team of scrubs... far from that!!
Italy need to look at what they are doing in youth teams and change something. Germany had a rough period trying to produce quality players in the near past, but imo they changed something. You can see now they are all for talent and less for body type...
Of course itīs a outside opinion, but the drop of talent of Italian players(in my eyes) canīt be accepted as normal. Something is wrong, and they need to change it fast...

Berlusconi, by investing in the team, needs to get affection, confidence, call it how you want, from the fans, he needs to be liked/loved because he's into politics, so he has to play with feelings. By using words like "investment", you don't play with feelings but with the brain, it's just logical. Logics vs feelings ... Feelings generally win in politics.
Anyway, a great player this winter is some kind of a gift as it's not something we really expect to happen (next summer, yes, this winter, no) ...

I would disagree with the characterization that there is a lack of talent with Italian youth. I think the issue is less about the quality that Italian youth teams are producing, and more so to do with the fact that Italian clubs are actually preventing the immense talent that they do have from developing properly.
Both Italian clubs and the NT are in a tough position. A great generation of players are closing out their careers. Totti, Del Piero, Nesta, Cannavaro, Grosso, Gattuso, Camoranesi, etc. These players were pillars of their clubs team and the success of the NT. In order to continue to compete, clubs were willing to bring in foreigners to help transition these older players out. Many of the clubs did not allow for the youngsters to properly develop, or they would sell them off to smaller clubs after growing frustrated with them. Some of these players failed to live up to their potential, Gilardino is an example.
However, players like Cassano, Giovinco, Montolivo, are playing at clubs that they wouldn't be playing for if they were German or Spanish. The idea that Italian youth teams are not producing talent is not correct, the problem is that clubs are either mismanaging the talent or the fact that more and more Italian talent is being developed abroad.
Giuseppi Rossi, Macheda, Diego Contento, are but a few examples of players that came through because they were developed abroad.
I don't see the point of looking at a player like Coentrao, who would be worth 18+ million, for a LB, when I could spend much less than that on a player like Diego Contento, who I think has tremendous talent.
Furthermore, looking at players like Pirlo or Gattuso, they were not huge big names when they were brought into Milan. The club's treatment and development of players is a huge part of it, both positive and negative. For me, I prefer Milan's Italian backbone, even though I am not Italian.
Furthermore, I think that much of Italy's best talent is being wasted, whether it is Bonucci and Motta at Juve, Montolivo at Fiorentina, or Cassani at Palermo, these are very good players who could become top class if they were brought into the fold at bigger clubs.
Also, looking at Milan's current primavera crop, I have to say there are many impressive players there. Even the ones we have out on loan/co-ownership look good. Frankly, Paloschi and Astori alone would be great reinforcements for the team, and looking at the way Abate has played for us at RB, I'm inclined to really question the need to spend 18 million on Coentrao, regardless of how great he is. I mean, Abate did a hell of a job against Cristiano Ronaldo, if that doesn't say something, what will?

Painfully funny but true :haha:
Galliani must be one hell of a diplomat, all these years trying to balance the needs of the team, what the coaches want, and at the same time caressing our presiden't ego.
So do you guys think we should make a list the way kids do to Santa or resort to the old "papi" tactics :respect:
Either way, let's hope this time it's more for the greater good of the team. The chance of winning the serie A this year is simply too big to pass up.

But Coentrao is a LB, and we all know how crap our LBs are. The only Italian solution of this position is Diego Contento and I'm not sure whether Bayern would be willing to let him go, especially when their backline is considerably awful lately, and their position in the league is quite embarassing too.

Completely agree with almost all you have said there. Italy, bizarrely like Scotland, have players of the required level when in youth football but they are not developed properly by clubs. In Scotland this is also to do with culture but in Italy it is down to attitude and the system. There are no Italian Barcas, Arsenals or Ajaxs. France and Germany have both in the recent past had a look at their player development and facilities with great effect. Football will always be cyclical and Italy have ahad a great generation of players but unless they change tact, it may be a while til this returns. They're are very few great Italian players in their mid 20's but Milan and Italy should really be focussing on the teenagers and those in their early 20's.
My only disagreement would be about Abate. He's a squad player but nothing more. I must admit that I don't see every game but his positional sense is non-existant in almost every game I've seen and for a former winger his wing play is not great. Hopefully he can prove me wrong.

It is very easy to understand the difference.
In an investment, the money has to come from fininvest, as Milan is a member of the Fininvest group, but by a Gift the money will come from Berlusconi's PERSONAL pocket.
Also note that the gifts from Berlusconi were always given as a donation, not loaned as other owners do.

That's how it is mate. Their picks were always debatable. To everyone SANE in this world who have watched football (especially CL) last year, Sneijder and Milito were two best players last season - Sneijder for leading his team to CL title and Milito for scoring most of the goals in the process.
But the formula for the picks is simple - if Barcelona or Real or Manchester reach semi-finals at least, you can bet Ballon D'Or goes to one of their players. The players like Milito and Sneijder can't win Golden Ball just like Pirlo couldn't won WC 2006 best player award, because guess what Zidane was there and he was ****.y for most of the time, but played:rollani: fantastic quarter finals.

6 months ago I would have agreed, but right now Thiago is making major progress. He's becoming the defensive leader we want and his positioning has improved a lot. Really, I can see him being the great defender of this generation.
Fair enough...
Just to make it more clear for others, I wasnīt down playing T. Silva in my post. My point about David becoming the better player in the future, relies on the fact at 23yo David is a much better CB than T. Silva was at the same age.
Plus, and just for curiosity(I donīt know if you guys knows about it), but David Luiz only started to play as CB 6 months before his departure to Benfica. Yep, he only had 6 months of experience at the CB position before goes to Europe and become a starter... At 19 years old. At the right environment, this guy could turn into the best, too.
Regarding T.Silva actual level, thats was the way he was playing at Fluminense when we bought him, and imo no one is playing better than him at the moment. Heīs really a amazing defender and a great person... Iīm really glad for him!

I would disagree with the characterization that there is a lack of talent with Italian youth. I think the issue is less about the quality that Italian youth teams are producing, and more so to do with the fact that Italian clubs are actually preventing the immense talent that they do have from developing properly.
I respect your points, Salmadinho...
But if they(players) were really good, they would have cracked first team play. Btw, before I write more here, itīs good to remember that very few kids from the youth teams "make it" to the next level. Even in Brazil where teams invest zillions of money in amazing youth complex, very few turn into very good players, or even become a good backup. So, I really disagree with the way people throw a lot of names here saying they are "Milan level" just because they are Italians. Thats not the real world(imo).
Maybe Iīm wrong, but I think Germany brings much more foreigners to their big clubs than Italy, and that didnīt prevent them to develope great young talent to NT. Imo to put the blame on foreigners is cheap and will not solve the problem. If thats was the real problem, Portugal would not have developed talent. Have you ever seen the amount of foreigners on the Portuguese League?!? They have much more foreigners than Italy... Itīs not even close.
In Spain, with 2 years a foreigner can get a Spanish passport(unlike Italy) and donīt count as a foreigner. They have a lot of no Spanish players on their teams and thats not prevent them to produce a lot of talent and become World Champions...
Do you think itīs coincidence that Spain since the early 90īs is fighting for titles in under-17 and under-20īs World Cups with Brazil, Argentine, Germany and some Africa NTīs and Italy not? Maybe Iīm being unfair, but I watch a lot of youth World Cups, and canīt remember the last time I saw a Italy NT making a impact on those tournaments... And thats also can be said about England.
Sorry, but Cassano and Giovinco had their chance and for different reasons, arenīt in a big club anymore. People are too soft if the player is Italian. Imo Gourcuf had less fair chances than Giovinco in a big Italian club, but I donīt see the same buzz about him. If you want to be a big club player, you need to produce, period. Big teams needs to win "yesterday", and thereīs no space for the ones not delivering... at least outside of the bench.
In Brazil I saw a good example this season. A young player we were linked this season(Bernardo from Cruzeiro) played very good for Brazil youth NT and had a chance last season to play for Cruzeiro(big team here) first team. Despite being a great talent, he failed to make a impact. Cruzeiro was lacking a #10 badly last season and put their hopes in Bernardo. But like Giovinco, he didnīt help himself.
This season they loaned him to Goias(Rafael Toloi team) to develope, and purchased a veteran(Gilberto) and a foreigner(Montillo from Argentine) to battle for the #10 spot. Montillo made a splash and was chosen to Brasileirao 2010 first team. Bernardo had a very good Brasileirao playing for Goias(middle team relegated to Serie B this year and in the final of South America "Europe League") but will need to show much more to be a starter for Cruzeiro ahead of the foreigner(Montillo, an Argie) next year.
Giuliano also is playing out of position this season to make room for a foreigner (Another Argie, DīAlessandro) and Tinga at Internacional. After being the best player of Internacional last season in Brasileirao and shine in under-20 WC, he could have complained and asked to leave. He chose to stay, played(and won) Libertadores as a sub, and was the MVP of Internacional in the tournament comming of the bench. Thats the right mind set to be a big club player imo...
To make it short, imo Italy has much less problems with foreigners than others Countries that are producing better talent at the moment. Imo, they need to take a relly good look at what their coaches are doing in all levels... at least for me, itīs clear they arenīt producing the same level of players anymore. Not even GKīs and CBīs...

Been a while since i've been here.....
Brasiliero you have an excellent point it's not number of foreigners. But what you are missing.... it is a development problem.
Look at Luca Cigarini. Promising CM, centerpeice of u21 side at 19, put impressive performances with a parma side that got relegated.
What happened to him? He moved to Napoli and was consistently on the bench for WORSE older italian players. Senatore system. Italian managers prefer to play a 30 year old who is 'tactically sound' than develop a 21 year old who has much higher upside. Where is he now? Getting consistent starts at Sevilla in spain... a better club...
Look back at italy's last good generation. It's success was predicated on MILAN and Jube mostly developing young raw talent. Sure there was Totti, Nesta, Buffon... rare world class talents who no coach in there right mind could bench. But what about Pirlo and Gattuso (IMO both were better than Cannavaro in world cup 2006). Both players came to milan raw and unfinished. Milan stuck with them and they became two of best in world.
(BTW Pirlo sturggled at Inter, what if milan didn't sell buy him and he went back to brescia or atalanta or something?)
And that brings another point, I truly believe if you want a world class nT your players have to play omn highest levels. Champions league etc. Look at Italy's 2010 team. Bunch of Genoa and Udinese players....
Now you can look at barcelona on the flip side. Again, Xavi is probably best CM in world today, but how many years was he not? Iniesta similarly. Or we can go with more contemporary examples of Pedro, Pique and Busquets. All had talent but very rough. I remembver when they started playing a lot I questioned it but they grew and grew. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN IN ITALY.
I'm not saying every kid in Italy has it. But I can tell you this, Palombo, Lazarri, Montolivo, Criscito all deserved chances at big clubs 3-4 years ago. Instead Milan preferred Oddo and Janku. Jube preferred players like Zebina, Poulsen, Sissoko, Zanetti
A quote from Pirlo sums it up. "In Italy it's harder for youngsters to get there chance because coaches have a shorter leash with them, when it should be the opposite. I had to go to brescia to prove myself, before Inter would recall me..." (something to that extent)
This does not mean every player will succeed. Of course they won't. But when they don't ever get a chance? How do you expect a national team with a player who had never played a champions league game to handle a knock out round game in a world cup?

David Luiz is great defender but Thiago Silva is the best for me. Sorry he is much better than Luiz...
Players like Cigarini, Montolivo couldnt progresses that much, Palombo is overrated for me,
good destroyer but nothing more nothing less. Lazzari? he progressed too late. The list goes on...italian should have better youth teams, inter is a good example for this, Fachetti project was the key for them. Santon, Balotelli, Krhin...Then Cristeg, Obi, Destro
,Donati, Fossati e.t.c.

David Luiz for his age is a superb defender and should with Thiago be one of the top defenders of this generation. Personally, I think it's beneficial for us (and Brazil) to get him to partner Thiago, even moreso than getting Rannocchia who is a superb defender but also a player whose never had any relationship with Thiago before and would take longer to form a partnership with Thiago (on and off the pitch).
Lazzari? he progressed too late
Has he really progressed too late? He broke through at Cagliari at around 23/24 years old, which is the similar to when Pirlo and Rino broke through at Milan. He's now 26 (I think) and if rumours are to be believed then there's a fair chance of us getting Lazzari next summer (Cagliari president has said he won't leave in January, but things could change in the summer). If he comes, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up as a starter as he's playing well enough to and is also a player who fits Allegri's ideas of the game. He's at the right age to be able to give us a few great years and become a part of the Italy set up for the next Euros and World Cup.
He's not likely to become a legend or anything, but he could still make his mark in football. His biggest problem has been he's not broken through at a top club.

Brasileiro tell the situation in Italy that Italy for now are not producing talents at least like they used to. Players you mentioned above Palombo, Lazarri, Montolivo, Criscito are different with Pirlo, Gattuso regarding their impact to the small club they played for. No wonder they are still in their respective club or just moved to other similar level clubs. They still don't show that big clubs should get them.
You however made very good point that the players could shine sooner even they are not as talented as many Italian players before. I think the real problem here, beside the lack of trust from coaches of Italian clubs, is the final stage of youth competition. Germany and Spain even England have a final place for the young players to mature themselves before go to the first team, the B team or in England the reserve team. The B team play in real competition, not in a youth competition. They fight for continuously improvement of the level of competition they could play in. As far as I know the B team can play in first division (one level lower than Primera Division or Bundesliga) as highest level of competition they can reach (with assumption that the A club should be in higher level than the B team).
Players in the age of 20-23 can still play to improve their level of play since being a young player even with talent the players are to face though competition to be able to play in the first team since they lack of experience, something that really matters in nowadays football. In Italy the youth competition is only until U20, similar like in Germany and Spain (probably only until U19) but after Primavera competition (U20) or final stage of youth competition, the players have no place to continuously improve their play. They have to play in lower level league but still they have to face though competition to play due to their little experience.
Also, having such team (B team) our primvera players can play in the B team to prepare themselves to play as first team player either for Milan or at least for lesser club. The point is that when they are finally loaned by a Serie B club they play pretty regularly, not just sit on the bench for almost of the season.
