Although I'm hoping this is true. the only benefit of getting him to sign is we get to make some money by selling him but that suggests someone would be willing to spend some $$$ to buy him.

A few of us here have been suggesting Orsolini for some time. Would be a good option for RW and a more economical one than a similar skilled alternatives. 
I would still have him as Plan B though and Berardi as plan A but Berardi would likely cost around the 30m mark.

If we get into the CL, we have to aim higher then the likes of Orsolini and Berardi guys

But we've also got to get a ST, 2 CAM's, a depth CM, backup LB and potentially a backup RB if Pioli thinks Kalulu isn't ready. 
that's on top of having to spend money on Tonali plus $ to keep Tomori.
Might not have too much $$$ to go around to sign better than Orsolini/Berardi. Would rather see one of them come if it then means we get a good quality CAM plus someone like Belotti. I also think both would excel in better teams. Maybe not enough, but it's better than keeping what we've got.

Hopefully the amount to be spent on Tomori can be made up with Caldara, Laxalt, Samu, Conti.
After that I think with CL the budget will be 50, not more. With lots to do I won't be surprised that some Diaz, Dalot type loans are still on the agenda.

I don't disagree on where we have to improve. But I wouldn't compensate on the starters. We need top quality. I'm not so sure Orsolini for example, is that much better then what we have.

For me, the key would be to get a top class RW. We can then relegate our current starter (Saelemaekers) to a rotational role.
I think this is how we need to improve the team role by role.

Compensating on areas where we really need quality just to be able to get below average backups elsewhere, isn't gonna do much.

I guess the best way to explain what I'm saying is this.....
If we are let's say talking about the need of a starting RW and a back up LB.....then I'd rather have a "9" rated starting RW and a "5" rated back up LB, then a "7" rated RW and a "6" rated back up LB.
Another way to put it....If we had 50mil to allocate between those same 2 roles.....i'd rather put 40mil to the RW and 10mil to the LB. As a matter of fact, I'd rather 50mil to the RW and find a LB on loan.

I know that's a poor way of explaining it, but I think you'll know what I mean.

Keep Laxalt as back up and try to get Gnarby for 50

Fair call. And I dare say some of our depth signings will come as a result of swap deals including these guys. eg. Edoard rumor as a Laxalt swap plus money. 
Potentially using Caldara to lower the figure to sign say Pessina. 
I also wouldn't be surprised if we end up selling Romagnoli although I'd rather he stays. Selling him would mean we'd be in the market for another CB... again. with Simakan no longer being an option.

I get that and don't entirely disagree but we're talking 50m for potentially 3 starters. ST, CAM, RW. Unless we think Ibra is still up to the task to play starter which leaves us with 50m for 2 starters and a few backups. I don't disagree with getting loanee's for backups either. eg. extending the Diaz loan plus getting others for other positions but we can't loan all of our depth either. some will need to be bought eventually... eg. Meite. 
I'm just thinking it may very well come down to prioritizing where the money is spent and I'd rather spend it to get the right CAM and Belotti if possible.
That being said. Maldini has done wonders. Who's to say we don't end up with Belotti and a top CAM and RW with a mixture of loan with options/obligations, swap deals and buying outright. 
eg. using Samu and Conti in a deal to sign Belotti. Signing Isco(example. not that I think it would happen) on deal similar to Tonali's. etc
