Ibra is big game no show!!!! if we are going to spend that money on one player who can only help us beat the small teams of Serie A then we shoud go all out and buy the other accessories that are needed, eg. Van Der Vaart, Jucilie, Ganso, Srna... Media hype is not needed... we need a balanced team... wher the **** are we going with Seedorf and the others... bar Pato and a few, this team is full of toothless old dogs... who are one match away from the intensive care unit... :(

Wow, this forum sure is lively today.

The season ain't even started yet and we're already calling each other idiot. We're about to sign a player who won more scudetto than any of our players and he's been labelled scrap.

So what if he played for Juve and Inter? The last time I read our player publicly said how much they loved Milan, or kissing Milan emblem from the window, they left. Enough with romanticism and get real: God doesn't make players like Paolo anymore!

I can almost see Silvio laughing now, saying "And you call ME stupid?"

I'm not so exited like you guys about this "we will have our star" player this mercato...

Sure, I'm not a fan of Ibra, but I can't deny he fits Serie A style very well. But my problem is that imo, isn't on attack we are losing games. Sure we need a better players alongside Pato, but if it was up to me, I would to spend this Ibra money in 2 promising midfielders.

Not pretending my opinion is right, but I'm more comfortable with a Pato/Borrielo pair in the offense, supported by a talented and capable of running(with the likes Chelseas, Barça's) midfield, than a Pato/Ibra(years away better attack) supported by our actual midfield.

Yesterday game let me even more worried about our mid. We couldn't create nothing against Barça reserves. Of course with a Pato/Ibra pair we would have created a little more, but imo the difference in quality and pace of our mid was enormous. We will not see the color of the ball against the bigs in Europe... and against SEVERAL Serie A teams.

For Berlusconi a Ibra purchase is a lot better, because like we are seeing here, to bring a star generate the type of fuss he needs. But like with Ronaldinho in the near past, it will not give the balance we(and any team) need to win Serie A. Not with our actual midfield. At least in my opinion...

Brasieiro, I couldn't agree with you more. One of the main reasons for Hunter's (relatively) poor performance, and us losing/drawing games we should have won, was our old, slow midfield, not supplying our forwards w/ enough chances.

The Ibra purchase in and of itself isn't a bad one, but only if we are looking to strengthen our midfield, which apparently we aren't.

Boateng is a good box-to-box player, but will he adapt to Serie A?

Robinho for me might be a better buy, with Boriello off the bench for Pato in games where we need some muscle.....let's see what happens though, as nothing is final.

Who said Ibra is 28 years old (which is true)sshould also statesthat he will be 29 in October.

Well, as I said before, I agree with the opinion from many members here that we should just buy other players that are more needed than Ibra but we don't have money for such player. We only have money for player Ibra's caliber (sorry I have to admit player like Robinho even Dzeko is still some levels below Ibra) 'thanks' to Berlusconi.

I would be very happy if Ibra comes (since the money is not from mine) but as Milan fans who considers Milan current financial situation I am not that happy, 40 mil or rough 20 mil with Flam+Hunter out for 29 years old player is not the best way to spend on the transfer market for Milan nowadays. This only proves that Milan is still managed like for the last years, spending without considering current need and situation. We don't have money to buy player(s) but in the same time we have money to buy player. How come? :finger:

Come on mates, we need better striker than Borriello, i kept always saying that Borriello is useless vs solid defenders and always failed. Huntelaar just a good poacher.

i agree with on the part, our midfield is slow and not enough. im always saying that we need 2 box to box midfielders, we also lack quality wing backs, vice Pato and Dinho.

Yet i want us to sign ibra cuz he is a great player, he is the king of Serie A, his movement, his class, his game surely will help us so much in attack.

Honda, Jucieli, Quality RB, Vice Pato, vice Dinho is also needed. but we know our mercato will end with ibra...

Every big team has a great player on the bench, we had Crespo, Gila, Sheva, Inzaghi in recent years.

Can any Spanish speaker translate this? It seems Milan has a "new Messi". I dont know if we just signed him or we had him.

http://www.deportesaqui.com/causa-revuelo-en-italia-la-llegada-de-ontiveros/

I understand that we just signed a new Argentinean that's not 16 yet and he is labeled as a new Messi.

It says he is on trial at Milan, he's labeled as the new Messi, and so far he has played in Mexico for Merida FC, and has had trials with Real Madrid and Tottenham.

For once, I have to strongly disagree with you Brasiliero ...

Firstly, don't take our last friendly game into consideration, by watching it, it was obvious it wasn't a totally serious game. No player actually did the efforts to win that game (except Inzaghi), especially because both teams have a far more important game to play this W-E ...

Then, about our midfield and attack, Ibra is the kind of player who can handle our attack alone, the kind of player who will constantly have 2 defenders marking him in Serie A, which means he will open a lot of spaces for the other players. Ibra in our attack means a better attack but also a more comfortable midfield, having more time and space to control and create. The fact that Ronaldinho seems to have found some decent level (for him) again means he could be a big threat too. If Pato keeps being fit, with these 3 players, we're sure to beat any team in Serie A, even the biggest ones.

I don't know if others remember and if you remember, but when Ibra was in Inter, this team had no creative midfielder, and they still looked good, surely thanks to Ibra.

It will be the same with our midfield IMO. Having Pato and Ibra upfront, helped by Ronaldinho, means that guys like Flamini, Pirlo and I don't know who else will have more time and space to play - that means they will be able to shine.

Of course, another midfielder wouldn't be refused, but right now, between Ibra and Vdv for example, I take Ibra, then VdV. I wouldn't say the same thing if the so called big name was Luis Fabiano (who is a good player too) or I don't know who.

About balance, IMO, having Ibra will allow us to balance more the team than last year because this guy is more physical (no doubt) and technical (except comparing to Pato and Ronaldinho) than any of our players. He is a constant threat for the opponents (I'm writing about Serie A, then, about CL, it's different of course, teams don't play the same way), the midfielders don't need to run like dogs forward and in coming back then in defence (a thing our midfield never did anyway). The balance will be there, especially if Allegri can set a rotation system with the midfielders.

And don't forget something else: Ibra (actually, the same could be said about Robinho) will force the midfielders to play better, like most of the big names (having such a star motivates the others again), but not only: Borriello will have to fight again for his place, meaning he will try hard to score. If Borriello tends to manage to score, Pato will also have to compete for his place, as well as Ibra himself. As a consequence, the new player will force veeryone to give his best.

Here are some reasons why I'm for Ibra coming in Milan.

Fifteen million euros for Flamini? That's a lot more than anyone was quoting earlier in the mercato. The English clubs were supposedly offering 6 or 7, weren't they? Flamini is a good player, but truthfully he hasn't done all that much at Milan. He hasn't been nearly as good as he was at Arsenal. Flamini -- especially at that price -- for a truly world class player such as Ibra? I'd do it in a heartbeat. Flamini wouldn't be that hard to replace. Ibras don't come along very often.

Warro Bantan

I am dead against selling Flamini for whatever reason. If a club came in with a mega £ offer, then maybe.....

But certainly, I see him as the future of our midfield, as Ambro and Rino have seen better days.

Rick
26-08-2010, 15:22
I don't see him ever being the player Ambro or Rino were in their prime. Obviously I'd like to keep him, but if it means the difference between bringing in a world class player who has proven himself to be brilliant in Serie A and nobody or another lackluster signing, I'll help pack his bags. Players such as Flamini are a dime a dozen (relatively speaking, of course :D). Players such as Zlatan are rare.

And, by the way, I would consider 15 million euros very much a mega-offer for Flamini.

It could be his year ... with a coach having faith in him, wanting to give him the keys of the midfield, I don't think it's the right time to sell him.

It's a huge mistake when we know we could have sold Gattuso earlier this summer (of course, not for the same kind of amount).

Economically, it's a good move: a free player sold 15M, but tell me who we could buy who could be as good as him without spending too much money ? I don't see any player right now.

Agree, but I add another reason. His wage. He earns 5.5 million yearly.

I believe he can be replaced with someone of his calibre and paid less.

Well, the thing is for every Messi there are one thousand Coloccinis. Looks like he also failed the trials with those clubs.

That said let's give him a chance. After all, Franco too was rejected by Merda youth. Aren't they lovely cousins or what? Haha

With the sale of Huntellaar and Flamini Ibrahimovic expenses are nearly covered if tgcom's story is right, including the salary.
So Milan still have funds to buy another midfielder requested by the coach.

Name me one, the one whom we could get in two or three days. If Flamini leaves, surely there'll be no one to replace him. Maybe B&G will say that Boateng is Flamini replacement (we have to sell one player to buy his replacement).

I'll give two: Mahamadou Diarra and Fernando Gago. None of them seems to be in Mourinho's plan.

Having said that though, I still rate Flamini higher than them. With such best mercato, as Brasileiro put it, in Rafa going to Inter and Adriano to Roma, and lastly Diego out of Juve; we won't get better chance to win the scudetto than this year. And to do so we must keep our best players.

Again I will say that the problem is 4-3-3 which is unbalanced and our best solution next season is to sell Dinho and create compact midfield with Ibra-Pato attack ( in my oppinion absolutely perfect mix ).

Couldn't agree more. I don't want to see Pato playing as Right wing forward yet another year. If Ibra comes, will he play RWF with Pato as the central striker? No. If we need to persist with 4-3-3, a proper RWF is needed like Messi/Pedro. Even a good attacking right winger would do.

I personally like 4-3-1-2. If Ibra comes, I wish to see a proper CAM.

First of all, Ibra AND Robinho arriving this Mercato is NOT an option.

For that to happen, Flamini, Huntelaar & Ronaldinho would ALL have to be sold. Robinho and Ronaldinho play in the same position. They play out wide left, and neither goes back to defend. Both players are only good in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 type system.

It appears that Ronaldinho will NOT be sold. If Ibra comes, he wants to play with Ronaldinho.

I would say one of two options can and should occur. If we sell Flamini AND Huntelaar, we need to buy Van der Vaart or Lassana Diarra.

4-2-3-1
------------------Amelia-------------------
--Sokratis--T.Silva--Nesta--Antonini-----
-------------Boateng--Pirlo---------------
Pato-------Van der Vaart (Honda)--Ronaldinho
----------------Ibrahimovic-----------------------

OR

4-3-3
-----------------Amelia--------------------
-Sokratis--T. Silva--Nesta--Antonini-----
------Boateng---Lassana---Pirlo---------
---Pato----------------------Ronaldinho or Robinho
----------------Ibrahimovic---------------------------

** IF Ibra does not come this will be formation
----------------Amelia--------------------
-Sokratis--T. Silva-Nesta--Antonini-----
-----Boateng--Pirlo--Flamini-------------
---------------Ronaldinho----------------
-----------Pato-----Robinho--------------

*this case would have NO penalty striker, and Huntelaar would be gone..

I am still not happy with Berlusconi and Galliani as while it would be great to get Ibrahimovic, they're still paying 30-40 Million Euros for him. If so, why have they been talking as if they're poor for the past 5 years...How did they not make money after bringing in Beckham...Dinho..how did they not make money from Sheva sale or from Kaka sale?????????

Lastly, with Antonini and Sokratis as my wing backs,, and a shaky midfield, I'm still not 100% convinced we'll have any trophy's even still...

Like one poster said.. If we're such a "BIG CLUB", then we should have stars at every position... Van der Wiel, van der Vaart or Honda, Coentrao, Rannochia and Bonucci as back ups, maybe Lassana, etc....

As much as I like Flamini, I do question his role on this team this season. Sure, Allegri said that he likes Flamini a lot, but are we really supposed to assume that he is going to be a starter? We play a three men midfield. Pirlo is a surefire starter; Boateng also seems like a starter based on the fact that he is our only CM that has any attacking capabilities; that leaves one spot open between Ambrosini and Flamini. Somehow, I really doubt that Allegri would be allowed to bench the captain of this team for Flamini. I am not saying it wouldn't be a good move, just not that likely. So to me, selling Flamini for 15 million to finance Ibrahimovic is a good move. If we could somehow get another midfielder before the end of the mercato, that would obviously be even better.

It's not because a coach in Real Madrid decided to use Robinho as a left "winger", and then all other coaches in Europe decided to use him there, that the guy is a left "winger".

Pato played on the right wing last season: is he a right winger ? Not at all. If Allegri decides to use him there again, and if then, he plays there for 3-4 years, will he be a right winger ? No IMO.

Robinho is a second striker, he moves a lot. He likes coming from the left, but if he's free to play like he wants, he'll also come from the right ...

So Robinho and Ronaldinho don't cancel each other (and don't forget that Ronaldinho will have to try to be more central this year under Allegri).

Dude, this team isn't as bad as you think. First of all, I thought our midfield looked better than in a long time last night. Pirlo had an off night, but Boateng impressed me, and Ambro is Ambro - always solid.

What is really important to keep in mind though, is that we were within a point of Inter fairly late in the season last year. Had it not been for our injury crisis, we probably would have kept up the pace with them until the end of the season. And that brings me to something that makes me very optimistic about the coming season: We have more squad depth now than we did last year. In spite of all the complaints made towards Galliani for his lack of effort on the market this summer, I can see a strong Milan being built.

We have a better coach than we did last season, and we have Boateng, who is exactly the type of player that we need, a talented young defender in Papa and hopefully a world class striker in Ibra. Dida has been replaced by Amelia and Yepes has come in for Favalli. How is this Milan not stronger than the one we watched last season?

Finally, the main reason I'll be delighted if Ibra joins is that he's practically guaranteed to score a lot of goals. I had a look at his stats today, and he's scored 150 goals in about 300 official club matches. And not just that - his strength and technique make him exactly the kind of player we need up front from a tactical point of view too. He'll be able to create space for Pato, who can then use his speed, and will link up beautifully with Dinho. And that also means that Pirlo's passes won't go to waste like they have for the last three years (yes, it turns out that statistically, Pirlo is still the best playmaker in the Serie A).

I really don't understand this pessimism, especially not at a moment like this.

I'd love to see him be able to play there, but history does not support that..

Secondly, if ROBINHO plays a 2nd striker, then who's the first striker, PATO?

They both play the same way..they do not compliment each other.. am i wrong?

I thought we established Ronaldinho does not like nor has he been successful as a number 10 CENTER ATTACKING MID....

I'd love to see him be able to play there, but history does not support that..

Secondly, if ROBINHO plays a 2nd striker, then who's the first striker, PATO?

They both play the same way..they do not compliment each other.. am i wrong?

Well, guys with this talent and the way they play (a little bit different, Pato can be the first striker I think) can adapt to each other, I see no problem with that actually ...

About Ronaldinho, how many times was he used as a CAM ? It was last year, during the start of the season, when he was in a bad physical condition and the whole team struggled ... I think, after his performances in the friendly games, that he deserves another chance there.

my 2 cents, first of all 40mil out of nowhere means that our MGMT is totally craping 2 years now..actually its a proof..

flamini out is a huge mistake right now,as we really lack of any runners in the medfield,i dont believe they're giving him..

but then again ibra seems like a cristmas gift that can change things around..

Secondly, if ROBINHO plays a 2nd striker, then who's the first striker, PATO?

I for one would like to see Pato given the chance as a centre forward. He isn't a wing forward and, although he did well last season, he made like 0 assists. He could become a great goalscorer if he's allowed to play upfront. For that reason I'd prefer Robinho to Ibra, I think "Dinho and Binho" playing behind Pato is a tad more balanced than a forward line of Pato-Ibra-Dinho. Dinho and Ibra don't move a lot, whereas Robinho is very mobile.

Then we could still have Borriello as a physical back-up at centre forward.

Regardless it's clear that we still have a couple of big holes in our squad that probably won't be filled: fullback and midfield. Our centreback pairing of Nesta and Thiago is probably the best there is, but Antonini is barely good enough to be starting for us (in an ideal world) and Abate, Zambrotta, Ocdo, Bonera etc. are far from it.

And our midfield even with the addition of Boateng (fine world cup, but he hasn't done much to earn a move to Milan) and the promotion of Strasser (too early to tell) is too old and immobile - and now we're selling Flamini to fund the purchase of Ibra? Rather we should keep Flamini and add one more player who can run for 90 mins.

Totally agree.
But its less so about the money and more so about the players though.

I want Flamini to stay regardless of who we get in this mercato, its hard enough to hold the midfield already unless we're using KPB and Flams. We have no decent support for them besides Slowdorf and Ambro (Gattuso is past it, I'm sorry). If we lose Flams, then we need a decent replacement, I don't know where we'll get the money for it, since Flams is suppose to be for Covering the Ibra deal.

Given that we'll lose Hunter AND Flams for Ibra, somehow I would prefer we lose just Hunter for 'Binho. We might even have some left over in the tank for another Midfielder that way.

As much as buying Ibra would make us serious again, selling Flamini would be step backwards...

I say sell Hunter for 15M, and buy Ibra for 40M (15M this year and other 25 trough next two years)....

Seems Milan Management doesn't like taking chances on anyone young. This has been their policy for quite some time now. They want proven "CHAMPIONS"

Dzeko on paper makes sense.. 35 million, 24, a Milanista, strong, technically good

Ibrahimovic is a proven world class star though, and Milan seems to want that, even if it is 40 m. What annoys me is that they cry poverty, then come up with all this money for Ibra. Deal is not done yet obviously, but I'm very confused. Robinho may well be the better buy, as well as Dzeko.

Anyone know the details on Robinho? (Wages, transfer fee?)

Of course man. We have to buy them both. If we only had the money. I can't even start to imagine what an Ibra-Pato-Robinho-Dinho attack would be like.

Pessimism?!?!? I call it a different opinion... And if you think our mid looked better than in a long time last game(fair enough), I can say we will disagree in everything about midfield.

If you think our mid will be great, fine. But last year we lost several 3 points in Serie A because our mid run out of gas. Games we scored and were winning... Even in San Siro! In C.L we were out runner even more. And this season they are one year older. Plus, just because I don't share your opinion about Boateng, doesn't mean I'm a pessimist... But I sure hope Boateng proves me wrong. We will need him to perform...

Btw, why we have a better coach now? I hope the best for Allegri, but until now(like Leo last year), he did nothing in Milan(or other big team) to be label as a sure thing. The management of a small team is a different animal than what he will face now... So, lets wait for the finish of the season before saying he's better at Milan than Leonardo.

Brasiliero brings good points:

- Allegri has proven nothing yet, but to me, it definitely looks that Allegri is better than Leonardo from the way the team is playing...(maybe Brasiliero is biased cause Leonardo was Brazilian :D)

- KPBoateng isn't a great player, yes I agree with Brasilierio, but he is definitely going to be a useful SQUAD player. Last year as you said, we lost games because our midfield runs out of gas and have no valid substitutes...KPB has better stamina, speed, strength than most players, when he gets tired we can bring on Rino/Ambro.. (maybe Brasiliero is biased against KPB cause we were supposed to get Jucilei instead :D)

but Brasiliero, who do you think is better for Milan -- Ibra or Robinho? and try not to be biased!! :D

Other points, it seems that we have signed or we are close to signing FIVE other players in the last TWO days:

- 19yr old Uruguayan Coates
- 22yr old Uruguayan Mondelongo
- 18yr old Spanish leftback Adria Carmona from Barca
- 18yr old Italian defender Cammalieri from Reggina (he went to Chelsea 2 yrs ago)
- 15yr old Argentinean kid that is labeled the new Messi, we are waiting for an answer on Saturday.

It's something different, of course (even if it's in the same league), but it's better to have some experience instead of nothing at all ? I mean, Allegri comes here by already having an experience in Serie A, he did something great with a small team and "limited" players (Cagliari played well under Allegri, and they even were a "threat" for the big teams, as they were among the good mid-table teams). So he doesn't discover the job, he has nothing to learn, he just have to do his job.

Leonardo had an handicap when he accepted the offer of coaching the first team of Milan for his first experience as a coach: he had everything to learn, and at the same time, he had to be ready as it is Milan. IMO, it wasn't fair to send him there suddenly, they should at least have given him the Primavera team for example (and who knows what he would have done with the Primavera ? He would maybe have helped some of our youngsters to be ready earlier than expected for the first team ?), for one or two years, a bit like Barcelona did with Guardiola. It's maybe not a big experience, but that would have allowed him to start his job by being a real coach from day 1.

Agree, Warro... we are in minority here and I really hope we miss on this point. But aside from Boateng(not a fan) athleticism, we are the same old/slow team(midfield). Not counting on Flamini...

Maybe I'm being biased as a former midfielder, but I can't see our mid working a entire season. We don't have the pieces for that... and will lose(or draw) several game we will be winning(with Ibra and Pato goals) like last season...

No problem, Geo. We always agree... it was getting boring:)

Btw, as always, great(and well based) post. Ibra physicality(and skills) will help a lot, no doubt. But like I said above to Warro, can't see our mid holding all season long. As you said, competition will bring the best, but some legs on this teams already saw a lot of grass... But I can t deny you made a very solid point above.

Just to finish(and not for you), to say that I want midfielders with the money maybe spent on Ibra, doesn't mean I will be sad if he come. But I never thought we still have this type of money, and if we can spend this amount once again, a world class(or 2 promise) midfielder would be my first choice.

id prefer robinho then ibrahimovic.. no doubting ibra on top form is a game changing player.. however robinho has that in him too, younger and cheaper. VdV and robinho would be a much better mercato then ibra imo, ibra would be good too.

as ive realized wer slow in midfield boateng adds some speed but hes nothing special. VdV would add speed and skill in mid and boateng can just be good because he has energy to run around the midfield and recover balls put in a few good passes

I want Ibra here. I am all for the transfer as I think he will enormously help us and finally give us what we have been lacking ever since Shevchenko left. (a striker up front that will simply win games for us) Pato can be that too, but he is too young to do it on his own just yet. And playing alongside one of the best strikers in the world can help him a big deal. Ibra is a force and has been a force for years now. Definitely the best Serie A player in his last two years with Inter and just a powerful tool to have at your disposal. So that's why I think that a player like Ibra will bring Pato's game up too and let him shine and grow.

Having said that, I also agree with Brasileiro on the midfield. I have been talking about the midfield for 2 years now. Went on about it last year as well. Our midfield is way to slow (and I don't mean running speed, but ball movement). We take forever to create chances sometimes and we simply struggle in there. Our players lose their legs when we are facing a more dynamic and physical team. And we have simply been lacking a dynamic box-to-box midfielder for a long time now. I don't know enough about Boateng to say that he will drastically improve the situation and take up that position. I didn't like what I saw from him against Barca, although I didn't like what I saw from most of the team (and pretty much the whole midfield). So I won't judge him yet, but I am not so sure that he is that dynamic box-to-box that we have been waiting for years now (ever since Seedorf decided he won't play serious football anymore). I am trully hoping that I am wrong however.

So that brings up another point, and that's Flamini. The rummors of him being included in the Ibra transfer don't make me happy at all. We really NEED this player. We can not base ourselves on Ambro and Rino anymore. These players are not up to it anymore. Ambro can be solid at times, but we can't bet the whole season on him. Flamini may not be a world beater and he may not have done all that much for us in his time here, but at this particular moment he is much more important to us then both Ambro and Rino.(performance wise) So giving Flamini away with no replacement shouldn't even be an option for us. Because then we'll be struggling even more at an already weak area. The only option that may work is selling him to Lyon (who apparently have offered 15mil Euro) and using part of the money and freed up wages(since he does get quite a bit of money....around 4mil right???) to get a replacement....while the other part can go towards Ibrahimovic. Which poses another question....how much will a replacement cost us? Diarra for examble, or Jucilei, or etc...

Now I will get some fire... Allegri until now is doing the same thing as Leo at the start. Trying Ronaldinho as AMD, where he manage to play for only 25/30 minutes(I'm being generous) and go to the left after that. Even Odu is doing a Pato of last season covering the right, just for Ronaldinho rest where he likes:angf: Until now, is the same scheme of the start of last season, but with better players at the back.

Also, Flamini on the bench, Ambro/Pirlo/Rinno/Seedorf starting(only broked by Boateng debut). Last season I criticized Leo several times, but the bias imo is on the other side. It's in Allegri be a Italian...

I will judge Allegri when Ronaldinho start to bend for the left and make his 4-3-1-2 more unbalanced than it is, now. In that time I will see of what our new coach is made... When Silvio start to moan on the press about Ronaldinho position... and of course, for the place we will finish in Serie A(CL)... Until now, it's all speculation and hopes...

Thats not fair with Boateng... don't compare him with Jucilei :) Jucilão is on another level!!! :smileani:

but Brasiliero, who do you think is better for Milan -- Ibra or Robinho? and try not to be biased!! :DLol
The better for Milan is to get rid of Ronaldinho and bring both!

Robinho is playing much better tracking back and doing a "false" AMD job. He was great at Santos doing it and now in Meneze's Brazil NT. Robinho isn't a winger as R. Madrid and City wanted him to turn. He's a second striker an could be a amazing facilitator playing in a free role behind Ibra and Pato. But I can't see Ronaldinho leaving...

This is what I've been saying all along.... Getting Ibra/Robinho still doesn't solve the main issues with Milan. They are simply:

1. RONALDINHO is only comfortable in a 4-3-3 Barca style system playing on left
2. Our Midfield does not link our defense to offense and is not skillful enough

---------Pirlo--------
--Jucilei------Flamini

is the best money could buy for Milan right now. Any system with Ronaldinho poses serious problems as far as balance and formations...

Here I disagree, Geo...

He has a lot to learn. A experience(little) in Serie A is something nobody can take off of Allegri. But what he will face now is totally different of Cagliari. Do you remember of Luigi DelNeri experience after that very good Chievo team he form? Chievo was a very good(much better than Allegri Cagliari) and well coached team formed by him that even fight for the title. But after that, he failed at the next step, in Porto and Roma. Two big teams, but with no near the pressure a coach face at a big like Milan.

Before someone jump at me(already saw people being called idiot here), what I want to say is that Allegri chances are 50/50 and that imo he isn't the sure thing I've been hearing here. We can all hope for the best, but Allegri experience doesn't mean a lot to me... not for to coach team like Milan.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: On a side note, and talking about Leonardo... He leave Brazil yesterday to meet Platini. Michel offered a job on UEFA to him and they will meet to discuss it. Plus, he will work for BBC in Champions League.

And in a sad note, Ganso hurt his knee yesterday in a win against Gremio and will be out for 6 months. Poor boy:sob:

As I said in the past, the actual Ronaldinho reminds me of that 3-point specialist(NBA) that can win you a game in the last seconds, but if played as starter, will also hurt your chances to win the same game. Will make your team unbalanced...

Brazil NT become a more balanced team after the day Dunga stopped to call him. Even if the replacement was a normal player like Elano...

I can't deny, with that formation you post, we would be a real threat to everyone... Even in Champions.
If we sell Flamini for 15m.. a legitimate box to box midfielder like Jucilei, Lassana Diarra, will cost more...
Corinthians was asking 7 million for Jucilei one month ago. A team offered, but the player turned down because want to leave only for a top-3 league team.

I JUST saw that. I was looking at highlights from the most recent round of scores in Brazil and saw the highlights of that game. As soon as he pulled up before that penalty, I knew something went wrong. I searched on the web to see any news but couldn't find any and now you are telling us 6 months.

So unlucky for him. I can only say that I am hoping that he'll come back as good as he was. I truly think this player is hands down the best prospect (not sure if he is a prospect anymore as he has been playing and showing signs ofa true great) in Brazil. What a player and what talent. I can only hope for the good of football that nothing (skill wise, talent wise) is taken away from this player with this injury.

I cant believe some people actually want to sell Flamini for 15m. He's the only midfielder with good legs we got, he is good defensively and can also help us in attack, unlike max and gattuso, who are both over the hill!!! Flamini is the future of our midfield.

Not so happy with the Flamini rumours. I thought he was going to be an important player for us this season. It means we will make our midfield worse to be able to upgrade the attack. That's not how to strengthen a team, is it? Unless we're replacing Flamini with someone better...

IF Flamini is for sale, Milan has an alternative player in mind.
Sure they are not going to invest over 100 million on Ibra and destroy the midfield.

And latest news I read says that Berlusconi is going to cover most of Ibra's expenses including the wages for this year, a total of 30 million.

what is this? an option on T.Silva or Pirlo?

Milan Aim To Bring Barcelona Forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic And Manchester City's Robinho To San Siro - Report

The dream team could be installed in Milan by January.....

As Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovic ponders his move from Barcelona to Milan reports in Italy suggest he could also be followed by unsettled Brazilian star Robinho from Manchester City.

Milan are looking to land Ibrahimovic for €40 million, paid in installments over three years, according to Corriere dello Sport. The striker is said to be willing to reduced his wages to €8m over the course of a five year contract to return to Milan for the Rossoneri.

However, a deal that was first thought as an alternative to Ibrahimovic or even to compensate the loss of Ronaldinho, who is now set to stay, Brazilian star Robinho could be about to follow 'Ibra' to the San Siro.

The unsettled forward continues to look for a way out of Eastlands and the Italian media suggest that a deal might not be brokered until January. In the long term the former Real Madrid man will fill the boots of 'Dinho' if he doesn't extend his current contract.

Wow, not seen the forum so busy in ages lol.

Anyway, rumours are flying, but frankly the only one that seemed noteworthy was Ibra wants to think about his salary.

I don't believe Flamini will leave, it would be a ridiculous move and I doubt the management would ever consider it (same with the Thiago/Pirlo rumour I think I read above).

I'm also surprised so many posters think Boateng is a starter at this point. While I was a big advocate of his signing, it wasn't with him as a sure starter that I had him in mind.

I thought we established Ronaldinho does not like nor has he been successful as a number 10 CENTER ATTACKING MID....

I'd love to see him be able to play there, but history does not support that..

Secondly, if ROBINHO plays a 2nd striker, then who's the first striker, PATO?

They both play the same way..they do not compliment each other.. am i wrong?

I must say yes, I think you're wrong. Pato is a very versatile player, and in the past there were many arguments for him to be used leading the line of attack. I was one of the posters who argued most for him to be used there and provided numerous statistics that showed his effectiveness at the top of the attack.

Even now I think he's quite possibly best used there and his game for Brazil recently showed quite how good he could be there (he missed a lot of chances, but also lacked match sharpness).

That isn't to say it's his only option. I've always fancied the idea of giving him a free role in attack (but maybe when he's more developed).

Even more, because Allegri will need to do better than what you wrote in the quote above, since he will have a much better and(apparently) health team.

Brasileiro, i agree and disagree with you. I agree that I don't think our midfield is particularly brilliant, we have some very good players, but those who are that good are generally on the wrong side of 30. However, I do think we have potential with what we have, if we get players of Ibra or Robinho's quality.

I say this mainly because of the coach. Leonardo didn't have a huge amount to work with (Allegri's got a stronger defence, some reinforcement for midfield, youth players who are prepared to play some part in the first team squad and now looks to be getting a top forward). Because of this, Leo was forced to play a broken team. Essentially this is a team made up of two units, the defensive unit who will generally just defend (with exception to Antonini who pushed up well last season) and the attacking unit who will generally just attack (with guys like Dinho, Seedorf and Pato not dropping deep to defend).

Broken teams work ok when you rely on individuals to win you games as we did with Nesta, Thiago, Pato and Dinho last year. However, against good units, broken teams are easily beaten as they simply get overwhelmed by well organised opponents (Man Utd second leg and Inter are examples from last year, where the lack of defensive support from our attackers showed our weaknesses).

The difference this year is Allegri has clearly drilled our team to play as a compact unit. Whilst we weren't that impressive in the first half against Barca, our defensive shape was very solid and whilst creating nothing, we also gave away nothing. For our midfield, this will be of major benefit as it won't be just 2-3 men who have the responsibility to cover the defence.

I'm not saying we're a great team even if we get Ibra/Robinho. But definitely the way we're going to play this season should benefit our team structure and especially our midfield.

Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has invited Inter fans to the Zlatan Ibrahimovic party, such is his confidence of signing the Barcelona man.

Galliani's response was directed at Nerazzurri president Massimo Moratti, who on Thursday said that he hoped "Ibrahimovic remained at Barcelona" so that he would not join their city-rivals.

Galliani has now hit back as he waits for a response from the striker following a day of wheeling and dealing in Barcelona.

"I will invite all the Interisti to the celebrations too," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport, referring to Moratti's comments.

The pink sheet paper claims a €40 million offer for Barcelona, plus €45m in wages for Ibrahimovic over five years could push the move towards a conclusion.

Last night Ibrahimovic confirmed he wanted 24 hours to decide his future after speaking with Galliani.

Even more, because Allegri will need to do better than what you wrote in the quote above, since he will have a much better and(apparently) health team.

I think there's a few things that should be mentioned about our midfield, when you say that it kept running out of gas, is that it often consisted of Pirlo, Ambrosini and Seedorf. Pirlo has never been good defensively and he never ran much. He is the same player that he always was. Ambrosini is a hard worker. The problem, as I see it, with our midfield was that we kept playing either Seedorf or Gattuso, two players who are clearly too old now, while Flamini never really got a decent chance to show what he can do.

If we have a midfield consisting of Pirlo, Ambrosini and Flamini/Boateng, we will be fine. The only defensive liability is Pirlo, but he adds so much to our attacking play that we have to play him. The thing is that he needs two hard-working midfielders alongside him. Ambro is one of them, and it looks like Allegri will give the other midfield spot to either Flamini or Boateng. In that case I really don't see why we should worry, because both of them play aggressively and are hard workers. To me that actually sounds like a recipe for success, considering that we have some very skillfull and creative players in attack, and a defense that is far more solid than it was last season.

As for Allegri, I agree that coaching a team like Milan is very different from Cagliari, but then again Leo came in with no coaching experience at all, while Allegri was coach of the year in the Serie A for two seasons in a row. The team looks much more organized now than it did last season, as if there's an actual plan behind how they play. Allegri has everything to prove, but overall I would say that things look much, much better for us now than they did last summer.

Boateng and Beretta are now officially co-owned by Genoa and Milan.

Source: AC Milan :D

And Milan has suddenly got money from "nowhere" ... ahah !!
Is it political (for Berlu) ? Is it to please our new sponsor ? Or is it just a choice of the management to have a team able to compete to win a trophy this season ?

Is it political? Noooo... Football is politics, has been for some time now. Sad but, that is how it is.

Some reports now say we'll maybe even buy Robinho and he'll replace Dinho who would agree some deal in the winter in the USA, Brasil etc. Insane...

Milan is Milan, has the money and has none. But this deal is not the deal I was talking about when I was saying how "this is a brilliant deal" and we cannot buy any better with that kind of money. If we sell Flamini we did a BIG mistake as our midfield is too slow.

Boateng showed extreme phisical ability, we'll see how he thinks while he plays big games. And Flamini is a player that is in first 11, if not, in first 14 in our club for sure.

Sell Hunter, MArek, Kaladze, Abate... not Flamini.

Montelongo is Allegri's new attacking RB. We'll see. Comments on youtube are: "hahahahahaha...." :wow: Cardaccio how are you lately? :)

Anyway, Ibra is class, we'll gain more balance and we'll play better vs small teams for sure.

Our fullbacks are not Milan quality, and that is why I do not count on great success in CL at all.

Percentuali? Non faccio scommesse. La telefonata con Allegri? Anche se ci fosse stata non confermo".

I dont understand italian, but are we including maxwell in the deal? :D
that would be sweet.

Luciano Moggi has lavished praise on Milan as they attempt to throw together a colossal move for Barcelona hitman Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It was Moggi who introduced Ibrahimovic to Serie A six years ago when he signed him for Juventus for Ajax and the Italian believes the Rossoneri are moving in the right direction.

Milan will have to stretch wide financially to land him but have plunged into talks with the Catalans. Moggi insists that the move will deliver a source of profit for Silvio Berlusconi's club on the pitch.

"I am pleased with the positive news about the Milan and Ibrahimovic deal," he wrote in his Tuttomercatoweb.com column.

"He is a phenonmenal player, scares defences, no-one can get close to him. I followed him on the pitch, not through dvds which is what Inter did.

"His only defect is that sometimes he enjoys himself too much when on the ball. With Ibrahimovic Milan will be like Inter, and the Nerazzurri will be scared of them.

"However, the transfer will not be easy though. Milan must make a step forward, and Barcelona a step back."

Biased much ??? Dzeko is great but our mgt do not think a player with huge potential is worth 40 million , its their money unfortunately and while i'd prefer Dzeko myself I will not curse out mgt for attempting to sign Ibra he will add alot and make us better in attack guarantee (well hopefully) 20 + goals and unlock defences in those games where teams play a 9-1 formation 9 defenders one striker.

We all know you're a big fan of Dzeko, but how can you be unhappy to see Milan buying a high profile player, just because it's not the one you wanted ?

Seriously, sometimes, some reactions are weird: if we buy nobody, people are unhappy (we don't spend), if we buy an unknown player, people are unhappy ("not good enough" or "useless deal" before even seeing the guy), if we manage to have a cheap deal (Flamini, Sokratis to give 2 examples), people are unhappy (because we're cheap), if we buy a star player, people are unhappy (not their own favorite choice), ...

Damn, I wanted Lloris, Sergio Ramos, Fabregas and ... Dzeko/Robinho/Villa, and we only got Amelia, Sokratis, Boateng and probably Ibrahimovic. Milan is so disappointing !!

Dzeko is good, but he hasnt been proven in Italy as yet, while Zlatan has already shown he is good in Italy.

ALso Zlatan will generate more revenue, due to the controversy as he is a ex inter, and he is also more popular, and will also sell more jerseys.

p.s in sure we would have chose Dzeko had it not been for his price, its a gamble we just werent will to to try.

Calm down mate...

Dzeko could be new Ibra but for now he is just a very good player of great potential and he has to PROVE himself in a big club.

It's not just Galliani, nobody in Europe wants to pay 40 M for Dzeko, that's because it's too much to pay for unproven player.

On the other hand, Ibra has proved himself as a world-class goalscorer in a big club and in a big league. Furthermore, he gives his team something more than goals, which is the only thing Dzeko provides at the moment, goals and nothing more.

I'm a big fan of Dzeko, I like him just like 99% of Bosnian people like him (as a person and as a player), but honestly if I had to choose between him and Ibra, I would choose Ibra.

I agree... and remember of the discussion about Pato's role.

We talked about it a lot, but for some reason people didn't want to hear... Pato played his entire(young) life as a CF in Brazil. Since Iternacional youths, Brazil NT(under-17 and 20) and now is(and will) be Brazil CF. Pato is learning to play another offensive role in Milan.

Very good points here... the bold part imo is almost the same vision I have of our team.

I just want to see this team in some real games before I judge Allegri work. Having Bonera at RB is a HUGE upgrade instead of the Milanl Zambrota(or Abate). At least for the defensive side. Sokratis(sp?) also, is showing(until now) that can be a very good backup for Nesta/Silva.

But at the same time, against Barça, several times Jonathan, Thiago, Iniesta were receiving the ball free behind our midfield. The good part was our defense wasn't only solid in the middle like last season, but I still saw the same problems. Ambro give 120% in all games, but a mid with him and Pirlo, can't cope with the pace of the game nowadays. Gattuso?? Diego(alone) torched us against Juve(thanks to get rid of him, Juve. Milan appreciate:) ) in San Siro...

I don't know, but I can't see we having a chance to win Serie A if a pair of Ambro/Pirlo/Gattuso/Seedorf is playing at the same time... Even with the reinforcement of Rafa Benitez:guw:

Yep, Ganso face tells everything. The lad is depressed...

Barcelona (bunch of mercenaries - i hate how they go about transfers now and think they're better than everyone else!) have agreed a fee for Mascherano so i see no need for them to get Flamini. Some Liverpool sour grapes here??:grinser:

Yea, but we don't have many players in our team that can just run. :D And sometimes you need that in a team.

But anyhow, I wouldn't sell him at this point. He is young, from our academy, and can improve. Besides, we need to have a good bench in order to win titles. So while Abate may not be starting material, he can provide some good cover from the bench. On top of that, there is plenty of other bozos in our squad that should go before he does: Janku, Kaladze, Oddo, Onyewu

I think maybe that's exactly why they are signing him, he's not their style. Both the strength and the "weakness" of Barcelona is their style, when it works it's fantastic and when they're having a bad day (yes, they do occur from time to time) they have no alternative way of playing.

Well, he will allow Barcelona to be better when they have to defend, and his role should be quite easy: "take the ball, and give it to one of the guys around you", nothing more I think ...

Barcelona lacks this kind of player, like you said, so who knows ? It could be the reinforcement they waited for a long time.

Anyway, I'm also confident that Mascherano in Barcelona could be a big failure because Guardiola seems to make bad choices regarding new players. The fact is that Guardiola has used the system set by Rijkaard and took profit of Messi becoming the great player he is, but IMO, when he asked for Ibrahimovic (Barcelona hasn't played with big CF since ...) or asks for Mascherano (a pure DM), his plan is probably to change a little bit the style of the team to have a FC Guardiola (like Raiola said :D), in other words, he wants to let his print in the club I think. So far, each time he tried to change something or include his ideas in the team, he failed (another example is when he tried to use Messi as a kind of ACM).

I don't know how we would fit Ibra, Robinho, Ronaldinho and Pato in the same 11. In Serie A it's impossible.

Regarding Flamini, I think it would be bad to sell him, but Allegri perhaps has some other ideas. All I can tell is Allegri wants his wing-forwards to track back to help side-backs and three midfielders to cover center plus side just if needed, unlike Leo where two, rarely three, midfielders, had to cover all ground.

Keep in mind Ronaldinho is very inconsistent and Pato is out injured 50% of the time.... so we need someone else other than a gamble on Ibra... Robinho sounds great. Plus Ronaldinho's contract will expire next year, we must be prepared to get a player for when he's gone, and who better than Robinho? Chances like these will never come again.

Anyway, having all these players would allow a good rotation in attack, which would probably help Pato not to get an injury too often.

Regarding Flamini, i believe that Milan wont sell or cant sell him, considering our midfield, im hopeful from both Boateng and Flamini add to midfield what we lack. Merkel should get good playing time as well. i wish we could sign a world class midfielder there too. On the other hand, Flamini's wages are too much and 15 m euros from Lyon is a nice offer i must confess, yet like i said, i expect him to stay.

Still our team lacks more, quality right wing back, upgrade over Antonini for instance, im not convinced with him, then vice Pato or Dinho, considering Pato's injury rate last season, off course, with ibra's arrival, CF is set. we dont need anyone for there, as ibra and Borriello are more than enough.

Regarding Dzeko, Where was his mind when he renewed his contract with them last year? Then, we cant complain about him, ibra is 28, ibra can play at highest level at least 3-4 years, proven world class player, was most useful player in Serie A. Wolsburg doesnt want to sell him and asks for 50 m euros.

i hope this year, hope to see a midfield trio, with Flamini, Boateng and Pirlo/Seedorf, Ambro and Gattuso can be reserves. hope to see Merkel get more playing time.

A midfield trio with Seedorf, Amrbo and Pirlo,we dont have much chance vs strong teams. so Merkel, Boateng and Flamini should do their job.

Merkel? Give me a break, he has potential but you can't expect him to replace Ambro so soon.

Boateng will rotate with Flamini for that second CM, the other one is Ambro. Strasser and Gattuso are the backups. Merkel will probably play with the Primavera, anyway.

I'm liking the idea of having Robinho be Ronaldinho's long term replacement, meaning we won't renew his contract. I think that's a great idea, and if we can get him in January, that would be great.

Man, I can't wait to see Ibra up there with Ronaldinho and Pato...

I know it's difficult and not very wise to fit all of them in the same staring 11 but that would say something for our attacking depth. I mean we have Serie A and CL and some Cup games. With Ibra AND Robinho, an utopic scenario to be sincere, we get incredibly strong on attack.
And dont tell me that anyone who is a Milan fan doesnt get a bit concerned with all these minor Pato injuries.
For a boy his age its not a good sign.

If Flamini stays, that's good. I always liked him. If we manage to sell him for more than 10mil or even 15 as some sources report, then that's better.
Come on, guys. 15 million for Flamini? More than you would get for Dinho at the moment.

Still i see Flamini as a vital part of the first team this season, so if he goes, he has to be replaced. Or else, we are left only with Boateng, a guy who seems promising but we are not sure if he will be really good or not.

Then Berlu and Fester splash the cash and land Mascherano.
Then i wake up.

GeoTav, the last big centre forward Barca used was Kluivert (Gudjonson, doesn't count as he was a sub), I think.

Flamini won't leave. The poor guy left Arsenal for trophies and found Galliani. He has stuck with us, despite not being trusted and has been a consumate professional. He has never complained and has just concentrated on his game. Now that Milan have reinforced the defence and look like reinforcing the attack, why would he leave.

All he has to say is 'NO'. We all know that Allegri can't leave him on the bench all season. Even Jankulovski and Oddo know they will get some games (Kaladze knows we have too many central defenders).

Robinio would be good, but only if Allegri is prepared to bench 1 big star.

Ibra, Pato, Ronaldhinio and Robinio won't work together.

galiani is doing riaola and ibra whatever he wants imo geo..

the thing is i dont get where all this "both ibra-binho" came from..there is no chance there will all 4 be starters more than the last 20 mns of a match going the wrong way..and roninho will not be an easy bencher(or whoever it is that wont play)..

ibra is a done deal as it seems the whole thing may end up in any hour, the biggest problem right now is not letting flamini, and i ve not read any news about that the whole day..

It's pretty much official. Ibrahimovic will play for Milan.

Raiola is full of sh!t. I can't believe what I'm reading from this guy LOL. He lies even more then Galliani and Berlu put together.:guw:

He goes to Barca's offices this morning (obviously about Ibra and his "golden handshake" :D), yet he tells reporters he is there for some insurance premiums. haha how does he come up with this crap. He already had a 2 hour meeting with Galliani for like the 3rd time in 2 days yet he is still talking about Ibra's decision..... which whatever it is.....he obviously is aware of it by now.

If we do have Ibrahimovic (a big if) and if we then go for Robinho (an even bigger if), it will surely only be on loan.

I know Robinho turned down Fenerbache and i think a figure of about £16 million was quoted, but they only way we could get him would be on loan and if Man City pay 50% of his wages. I think that is actually possible.

Abraão, not sour grapes my friend but annoyed at people like Messi saying Liverpool should act humanely so Mascherano can go. I've no problems with him going, but it doesn't mean he should be given away for a bargain basement price because Barcelona don't want to pay what he's worth. Can you imagine:

Buy Ibra, Robinho, Jucilei

I think that's a Steal.. Yes I agree Fullbacks are needed, but that's simply a dangerous Team,, VERY DANGEROUS... That would make the Mercato surprisingly Perfect....

He's as much an Inter fan as a Barcelona fan ... I think his club is Ajax and then Juventus. Other clubs are choices of career.

And he had to come in Milan, he chose Milan at that time, he then went to Inter because we were also involved in the "what you know", and like it was the reason why he left Juventus, it would have made no sense for him to come in another punished club.

Honestly what's with all this rubbish about Ibra being ex-Inter or an Inter fan?

Ibra is an ex Inter player, but so were Pirlo and Seedorf, as well as Ronaldo. Baggio before he came played for Juve, another rival.

Same goes for this rubbish about Ibra being an Interisti. Baresi before joining Milan had a trial for Inter wanting to play with his brother and was rejected. Maldini is a self confessed Juve fan before he came to Milan, so much so he had posters of Juve players on his wall as a kid. Ibra, as far as I remember supported Inter because Ronaldo was his hero, and if he comes to Milan, then who cares as long as he helps our club.

If Pato & Dinho shines in big games, there will be no problem.

Henry's only played well in small games, but Arsenal has no player at his class who can lift the team (Fab was too young then).

Inter in Mancini's day has no player who can do special things like Ibra. Maicon was just a RB.

Right on.

I read somewhere that maybe Ibra and Pato can sort of switch positions on the field to pull defenders apart. Ibra played pretty wide against us last week and made space for Villa to exploit. I hope Pato and him can find some understanding on how to do that. Man, this trio can really do some damage...

Maybe I'm mistaken, but, it seems that one of the latest developments has been Milan's ability to pull the price down to 30 million?

If this is true, it explains why Milan would go after Ibra instead of Dzeko, as Wolfsburg are clearly a rather strict club and seeing how Dzeko has reacted, quite the two-faced group.

If Dzeko was only going to be let go from Wolfsburg for 40 million, and Ibra comes at 30, how does that change people's minds? I think Ibra's commercial value, as far as visibility and marketing go, is another big reason why Berlu likes him.

Though, it'd be pretty awesome that when Ibra's contract runs out, we sign Dzeko on a free to replace him.

00:38 - According to Sky, there was a surge in talks to Ibra. AC Milan is pulling on the price and 40 million is possible that the price drops to 30. If that should be, Milan Ibra would take less than half what it paid for the Barecellona passt season.

23:50 - The meeting, probably decisive, including Adriano Galliani, Mino Raiola and Sandro Rosell, president of Barcelona, is set for tomorrow at 16:30.

23:42 - Ibra The formula of the transaction provide for a loan obligation to redeem the tag of the player. No economic outlay, therefore, for the season 2010/2011, the following year would be paid in installments 40 million agreed with Barcelona. (google translate

So it will be a load deal after all, and with an option to buy for 30M, thats sweet

Filipéz 182
27-08-2010, 19:51
So we will buy Ibrahimovic, wich is a VERY good transfer in my book, at least if you look at the players quality only. I dont think anyone can say he is worse than dzeko, robinho or fabiano or any other striker we were linked with. yes he is 29yo but he still has 3/4/5 good years in him. his quality is his technique and you dont loose that with getting older. he does not rely on speed or anything, so I think he will be huge for us! :)

On the other hand, and really , this is something i worry about, his wage is sky high!!! And werent we cutting the wage budget? (english?) I thought our wage budget had to go down, now I'm affraid other players (dinho? Pato?) will want to earn as much as zlatan. This tranfer is a big blow for our wage budget. any thoughts?

I missed almost the whole transfer news today becouse of work. can someone tell me if there is any news about hunter and / or flamini leaving? I would hate to see flamini leaving, If that is the case I would be against zlatan transfer, we need flamini in midfield as it is already not that strong. and he is the future of our midfield. :)

I am not having a go at you but i really can't understand the verdict that Ibra is a small game player.
How do people define small games and big games?
Big games = CL? He has some great moments there.
National team? He is the best thing Sweden has to offer.
Small games = Serie A? Like vs Parma the last league match of 07-08 when he returned from an injury and scored twice to give Inter the title?

Also, about Dzeko.
Is he a player for "big games"?
Is he better than Ibra at the moment?
Just because he is younger? Or because he says he is a rossonero?

I don't know. I ve never really watched more than 15 full games of him playing.

I did really like Dzeko, but unfortunately with Ibra arriving we have shut the door down on Dzeko's face. It does not look like he would come here in the near future (unless Ibra has a career-ending injury this year). I don't know what's going on with Robinho, it would be wise to conclude that deal now as well as he will not be available for the same price ever again, and Ronaldinho's deal expires in a year.

We also have no idea what to expect from Mondelongo, our new right back. Uruguayans seem to say he is nothing special at all, just like Cardacio and Grimi.

I hated Ibrahimovic as he was a prick which has nothing to do with him being ex-Inter or ex-Juve. I hope that Nesta and he will get along. :) I liked (still do) Dzeko as he is young and useful (and yes, I know that Ibra is Serie A proven), and more importantly as you pointed out, he is a Milan fan which I happen to value a lot. It is all just my personal feeling though. I always felt that he could become the next MvB or next Shevchenko, but I am no expert and he may flop like Huntelaar or Gilardino, but at this moment I wouldn't know and I still want him.

as for 'big game' 'small game' argument, what I meant to say was "I don't care if he was a small-game player." It was in response to some claim that he was a choker (which by the way I neither agree nor disagree), since I believe that he will for sure bring Milan up to a higher level. You probably could tell that from the overall positive tone of mine in that particular paragraph, but sorry for the misuse of words.

My philosophy has been simple. Ibra might remain a prick but the minute he dons Milan jersey, he will have all my support. So he is good now. :bright:

You probably could tell that from the overall positive tone of mine in that particular paragraph, but sorry for the misuse of words.

My philosophy has been simple. Ibra might remain a prick but the minute he dons Milan jersey, he will have all my support. So he is good now. :bright:

It's OK man, you dont have to say sorry, we re just discussing here :devs:

I also like Dzeko but still i prefer Ibra.
Being a Milan supporter is a plus i like in players we sign but it should be just a plus. Not a requirement nor a reason for a signing.

This is not just one signing Geo, this is the sort of signing MIlan should be doing every few years.
The last time Milan sign someone at Ibra status in Nesta, they won the CL right away.

it is so simple......
Ibrahimovic--------- world class striker------proven class---he is unique
Dzeko-------still a promissing striker like many others--------

we signed the best option....we cant continue buy promising strikers at the moment like Oliveira,Gilardino,Huntelaar spending moneys in rubbish.
We need a world class player.......

I agree completely. Its about time we stop taking risks on young players. We can't be spending money on unproven "stars". We need to be a Real Madrid club, a Manchester City club. Where we sign stars

Totally agree. Its a Nesta type of a signing. Maybe even bigger cause Ibra is a striker. You also can feel it when you see the number of members online in MM these last days...:diablo:

In this article, they report that Galliani managed to make the price decrease: instead of 40M, it will be a loan with an option (but actually, an option we're not allowed to refuse) and we should pay between 25 and 30M in some installments.

I just have something to say if it is confirmed: perfect.

And I just think about something: Raiola is the agent of Balotelli. He played a big part in the sale of Balotelli to Manchester City (it's him who started to talk about the possible move). Who knows, he will maybe clash with Manchester City next season to send us Balotelli ? :D

Class.

And the wage is about 8-8.5M. Very good indeed. A bit of wage inflation is needed to win something, we are not Arsenal.

I think Man City has a clause that they can't sell Balotteli to Milan (or Serie A clubs). Good work, Raiola, the more transfers, the more he earns.

I have read a very interesting post in another forum and I decided to quote it and bring it here.

I’ve been holding off on posting this until the deal’s made official, but **** it. I apologise for the self-indulgent length, but if I didn’t explain my worries about the signing in detail I would just be dismissed as a hater. I probably still will be, if anyone actually bothers to read it. Anyway…

Ronaldinho-Ibrahimovic-Pato looks terrifyingly good on paper, but I have serious concerns about whether Milan can get the best out of the three of them, both as individuals and as a unit. A lot will depend on the shape they adopt.

The front three was the compromise Leonardo arrived at last season in trying to get the most out of the forwards available to him, and he probably got it right. Ronaldinho made enough of a contribution from his favoured position on the left to justify the marginalising of Pato, who still managed a respectable goal tally.

However, that was with Borriello. Leonardo's system worked because the pretty boy played ugly as the workhorse of the front three; providing constant movement, occupying the centre backs and busting a gut to get on the end of Ronaldinho's crosses. These are essentially the same things Guardiola wanted Ibrahimovic to do for him at Barca, and that, for me, is precisely why he struggled there. The camel-faced one doesn't want to be a penalty box striker, and he certainly doesn't want to do any Borriello-style thankless running.

One of my personal obsessions, particularly with regard to Milan over the past few seasons, is the balance between passers and receivers, creators and runners. Borriello is a runner. Eto'o was a vital runner in Barca's system, and his replacement with the more static Ibrahimovic appeared to hinder them last season. I’m worried that Zlatan’s arrival may have a similar effect on Milan. There has to be a possibility that it could create an imbalance between creators and runners.

In order to redress that imbalance, Ibrahimovic could be told to play as a more orthodox striker, and he would more than likely get a very healthy number of goals (which would of course lead to people telling me I’m an idiot). For me, though, if you limit him to that, you're not really getting Ibrahimovic – you’re just getting a good goalscorer instead of a complete striker and a genius. I want to see the genius.

So, coming back to the subject of Milan’s shape, my fear is that a front three similar to that of last season would restrict all three star forwards: Ronaldinho would lack an ever-present target for his crosses, Ibrahimovic would be restricted and Pato sidelined.

The other obvious option is to play Ronaldinho in a central role behind an orthodox front two of Ibrahimovic and Pato. This is probably my favoured option, as I think the latter two would both benefit hugely from playing close together, with Pato feeding off Ibrahimovic’s lay-offs, knock-downs and through-balls. Potentially the best front two on the planet, to my mind. The problem is, of course, that Ronaldinho simply is not the same creative force when used as a trequartista as he is on the left.

I’m probably coming across as a negative bastard here. Ibrahimovic is a fantastic player and an impressive signing. I’m just not yet convinced that he’s the right signing. The potential is undoubtedly there though, and this will be a huge test of Allegri’s ability.

Very interesting what he has to say and I'm afraid I have also thought about this before. Ronaldinho's inversatility can ruin Ibra and Pato's roles next year.

Ibrahimovic will greatly improve Milan, when building attacks, having the ball, assisting and by scoring goals. You simply always need 2 players to keep him or Pato in control, add Dinho and Pirlo creativity, which makes it almost impossible for teams to not concede goals, unluckily for Milan, Inter is one of those teams that can play a certain way. The main problem of the team is the fullbacks, they are not good enough and the midfield options are somewhat too old bar Flamini and Boateng who let´s face it both are not that good at all. With this all said I think Milan will be challenging Roma and Juve for second spot and end up getting that second spot.

This isn't a Nesta type signing.

Not because Zlatan isn't as good as Nesta was when we signed him, but because the year before we bought Nesta we signed Inzaghi, Rui Costa and Pirlo.

While Nesta's contribution was unquestionable, it was the goals of Inzaghi and the creativity of Costa and Pirlo (forged the season before) added to the quality of Shevchenko, Maldini, Gatusso, Albertini, Kaladze (he was good then) and Serghinio that we won the CL.

So, signing Ibrahimavich is a good, it is not built on the foundations that Nesta's was. CL is far away.

Hitman, that post is interesting, but not accurate. Leonardo's system didn't work, contrary to that post adn Boriello might have put in the donkey work, but we needed him to score the chances he missed. I'm sure Leo would have loved having him as the focal point of his attack.

On Ronnie, he has lost weight, more of his assists will be converted and hopefully Pato can do more of what he did to Real last season. And any prediction of how Milan will perform this season needs to consider the defence. Its much improved. This means the midfield can play woth more confidence. We will be okay.

In regards to the question of whether the three of our strikers can play together, I think it is very important to remember one thing: when superstars play together, all of them have to sacrifice a little to make it work. That means, Ibra, Pato and Ronaldinho won't be the world beaters by themselves but rather do a little less each to forge a great unit. Its like with Team USA in the Beijing Olympics. Kobe, LeBron James and Wade didn't try to beat the other team single handedly like they usually did with their own NBA team. Instead, they all took on a smaller role and focused on other aspects of the game other than simply scoring to make the team work better. That is how superstars work together.

That's right.

But I think the sacrifice could not be painful.

Dinho did all the creating job last year thanks to the lack of good players upfront.

Now with Ibra and more movement from mids, he has less burden and could take on the defense with his lighter body :D

Kaka is an ACM, but Ibra is a second forward with big body, there will be not much collision.

I never said sacrifice has to be painful. Not having to carry the whole damn team on your own shoulder is actually a pretty nice feeling. Kobe would be the first one to tell you that.

BTW, am I the only one who think that Kaka could come back to Milan next summer or the summer after next? If Kaka is good enough, Real will not sell him, and if not, he'll really be another Sheva, IMO.

If Ibra comes and form a deadly striking force with Dinho & Pato, the n80 will get his contract extended with pay cut.

However, only future could tell.

Players like Kaka who use speed as their best weapon declines quicker than the rest, especially if they are crusified with injuries.

As much as I like Ibrahimovic, I think this is a poor decision by our management, especially since they are always complaining about a lack of funds. This money could be better spent getting 3 good players, like VDV, marcelo and robinho.

What would happen if we got him and a week later he gets a serious injury that puts him out for a year? stupid decision making.

I don't think that Flamini will leave. He is in Allegri's plan, so he only leaves if Milan has a replacement for him.
But lets face it, it is a temptation for the management. Lyon are offering 15 million and the player has a wage of 6.5 million NET. (although my impression is 5.5)

On the other 2 I agree if they leave.

Right on.

I read somewhere that maybe Ibra and Pato can sort of switch positions on the field to pull defenders apart. Ibra played pretty wide against us last week and made space for Villa to exploit. I hope Pato and him can find some understanding on how to do that. Man, this trio can really do some damage...

Ibra naturally moves all over the final third, as can Pato as you say, so it should be interesting how they work with each other. I actually think the weakest part of the trio could be Dinho, which is ironic as he's quite possibly the best on the ball of the three too.

Ibra's a big game player imo, but I think before last season Inter had collective problems, which is why they always failed in CL. The players themselves last admitted they believed more in success through last season and there was mental resolve which wasn't seen in previous years.

I hated Ibrahimovic as he was a prick

I think over the years Ibra's mellowed a lot tbh. In the right environments, I also think he's been ok, as was seen in Barca last season where he never seemed to have any problems.

I have read a very interesting post in another forum and I decided to quote it and bring it here.

Very interesting what he has to say and I'm afraid I have also thought about this before. Ronaldinho's inversatility can ruin Ibra and Pato's roles next year.

It's very well written and some interesting arguments are put there. I don't completely agree though as while Borriello is a runner and will work hard for the team, Ibra isn't static and has always had good movement. I also think Ibra's movement off the ball is better than Borriello, which together with his quality should be more beneficial to our team than Borriello is.
