There is one option. Papa moves into the centre and Thiago at leftback. I have no doubt he would be amazing!
Must admit, I prefer Thiago in the centre with Nesta. I look forward to seeing Papa tried at rightback. I don't trust Bonera, Zambrotta and Oddo in the big games.
If it came down to it. I'd try Silva, Nesta, Papa, Antonini.
Silva would imo get about 5+ goals a season from rb with his forward runs.
Against inert and in Cl big matches I wouldn't play bonera, zambrotta, but they'd be Ok for every other serie A match.
I wouldn't play oddo in our training games, never mind real matches.
I hope Abate continues to develop.
Watched a highlight from Milan training match that Allegri and Tassotti played in as well. Tassotti still plays in the same manner and intelligence, whereas Allegri kept trying killer passes that mainly failed, but it shows the vision he had on the field, which imo is what a player needs to become a goos coach, along with other qualities that are innate or can be learned.
We've got 2 strong CB's, some average ones (Sokratis, gooch, Bonera) but only 1 competent FB (Luca). why don't we just forget about FB's and experiment with a back three? especially against slow teams that use only one attacker. (i've said the same thing, more or less, in another thread but the mercato is the most active on MM....)
You need players to have better tactical understanding to play with 3 defenders and it can affect the space in midfield for players to operate in esp the likes of Pirlo and it puts more defensive responsibility on our mid which lacks a genuine wc def mid.
Three backs formation is also pretty unbalanced, give more space for opponent. 4 backs is ideal IMO, can be defensive minded form if all 4 players stays behind or offensive oriented one if the fullbacks support the attacking forces.

if we had a 2005/06 Gattuso still i would say we would be able to scrape through with a back 3 but like Tony said we would pressure the midfield more than we should really have to.
Tony, I think Thiago will get 5 from centreback, probably 7 or 8 from leftback with loads of assists.
How is Abate doing in the training games and is he playing as a fullback? Where do you watch them?
Shegs, I think you underrate Sokratis, he is exceptional. Much better than Gooch and Bonera. Yepes seems pretty good too from what I saw in pre-season.
Go to youtube for games. type in Milanello in search and find posts bt Maestro21. He deos most of them.
I think Abate needs to convince Allegri a bit more, but I think he has pace, adntime to do so.

We could play a 5-2-1-2
-----------------------------------Amelia---------------------------------
----------------Thiago Silva--------Nesta-------Sokratis-----------------
-------Abate----------------------------------------------Antonini-------
--------------------------Flamini------------Pirlo/Ambrosini---------------
-------------------------------Ronaldinho/Pirlo/Robinho-------------------
----------------------Pato-------------------Ibrahimovic
I think that could work. 3 center backs with the two widebacks that don't have to help on defense because Flamini would help out back there. I dont know about you guys but I am using this formation on FIFA 11 :5schal:
And if someone in the defense gets injured we could play with 2 center backs again. Pretty balanced formation. A realistic problem is if Pirlo ventures forward, but guys like Ambrosini who are more defensive won't do that. Or maybe even Gattuso:)
Really nice the idea of shifting Silva to the right or left fullback or even in front of the two CBs but as long as the partner of Nesta still below Silva regarding the quality, I choose Silva as CB. CB first then fullback, I think that's the rule of priority. So, for now Sokratis as fullback not Silva.

You could play like Mexico did in the WC with Rafa Marquez playing ahead of the two center backs. Kind of like a stopper
You could play like Mexico did in the WC with Rafa Marquez playing ahead of the two center backs. Kind of like a stopper
The problem is that we don't have Silva's caliber CB. If we have someone who not far below Silva's level, we can change Silva's position, like we had with Stam which we moved Maldini back to his left fullback position.
B&G are on fire, it seems we tied up Sebastian Coates for january.
Some 19 yr old defender from uruguay with spanish passport. And he is tall: 196cm.

Why isn't anyone excited about this? Is this guy just another cheap / semi-decent uruguay player?

Guys, there's no need to discuss formation. It's already set as 4-3-3 and Allegri already set players for all positions. Bonera or Sokratis are on the right, Antonini or Zambrotta on the left and that's it.
Robinho will be a bench player and will replace any of Ronny/Ibra/Pato when needed. Pato can play in center. Don't even dream that Allegri will field all 4 of them, because that won't happen.
Robinho is bought to step in when Pato is injured (happened frequently during the last two season) or Ronaldinho is tired or unmotivated (happens sometimes). Ronaldinho's motivation is a big question mark and it's too be seen what will happen when new deal is discussed in January.

Would you really call it a 4-3-3?
----------Pato-----------Ronaldinho-----------
---------------Ibra--------------------------
It really is 3 central players but Pato is allowed to drift to the right and Ronaldinho to the left.

I'm surprised there's so little mention of Poli being rumoured with us again today. I think someone mentioned it this morning, but since very little was said. With Samp acknowledging our interest for him, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in a Milan shirt in the future.
It's sacred cow, from Hindu tradition. And he wasn't saying that Sneijder was past his prime. That was his point, that they bought Coutinho when they know that they can't phase out Sneijder yet. Sort of how we bought Kaka at Rui Costa's prime, and he had to be phased out earlier than we wanted.
lmao, as a hindu myself I found it rather odd, but hilarious to see Hinduism brought up in a football thread. Was Brasileiro really referring the hindu tradition when he mentioned sacred cow or was it some other reference lol?

We can talk about the formation but won't know for certain for a few weeks.Allegri must be like a fat kid in a cake shop (sorry to all fat kids) from Cagliari to managing Pirlo Nesta Silva Pato Dinho Pippo and Signing Binho (is that what we are calling him ??) and Ibra.I think he will want to play beautiful attacking football nice and measured but not necessarily real fast.

I've been trying to get some inside updates on this guy for days. From what I read, he is a really nice talent, already on the verge of being called up for the Uruaguay national team. I even read that Montelongo was only signed to smooth the way between us and his agent to get us Coates. Anyway, I hope he does come in January or anywhere in the near future.

I'd tend to agree with that, but is it your opinion or what you read from some quote ? I'd be curious to know what thinks Allegri about his new attack actually, it's why I ask you ...
About Ronaldinho, Galliani said after the game against Barcelona or Lecce, don't remember, that with such performances, his contract must be extended. That makes me curious (again) about what will happen to our Fantastic Four (the real one, not Janku-Oddo-Dida-Kala) at the end of the season ...
The general consensus on this forum is that we won't keep and won't be able to keep the 4 guys together for more than one season, so if the contract of Ronaldinho is extended and if this idea is true, that will mean we will have the right to be afraid for Pato ...

I`m surprised how nobody has acknowledged the physical shape of our players..We we playing like it was the ending of the season, not the first game.It seemed like everybody had reached 100% fitness already, which has not been the case for years now, since Carlo intensionally started slow and gained momentum as he season was coming to and end.
I watched a lot of games lately, Bayern,Real(especially)Juve,Inter,Wolfsburg,Liverpool...they all looked out of shaped which is normal for this stage of the season, US on the other hand we were flying around the pitch like nothing. and I`m really glad. The only team that has matched our fitness for now is Chelsea(which is odd since Carlo is in charge there!!!!)

Yeah, so have I. Looks a good player, kind of reminds me of Kjaer.
Thanks Tony for the video advice, will have a look some time.
"Juventus have left Gigi Buffon, Fabio Quagliarella and Alberto Aquilani off their Europa League list.
The Bianconeri cannot field ex-Napoli striker or former Liverpool midfielder Aquilani in the competition because they have already featured in the play-offs for their old clubs.
Buffon will not be fit until January due to back surgery, so has not been included in the squad.
New signings Armand Traoré and Leandro Rinaudo do make it on to the UEFA list, but Hasan Salihamidzic and Fabio Grosso are left out after failing to agree a transfer away from Turin."
---------------------
"Silvio has been close to us in recent times, and now he has given us two gifts," the midfielder told Napoli Magazine. "His passion for the club has returned.
"The gap to Inter has now closed. With these two new attackers on our team, some time will be needed in order for both to settle in.
"But once they are, and become accustomed to the mechanisms of the team, all four can play together: Pato, Ibra, Ronaldinho and Robinho," added Pirlo.
This is what pirlo said, playing the 4 together? this means allegri has real plans for this to happen

Yep, no disrespect towards Hindu tradition here, but in Brazil it's used a lot!! Impossible to know who started it, but I hear it since I started to watch the game as a kid. To be honest, not only in sports, it's used everywhere( politics, job...)
In Brazil you hear a lot the phrase "A locker room full of sacred cows" when the subject is a team full of veterans with a sort of power inside the Club. A Raul(as Real Madrid player) type. it's just for the fact no one can "touch them" in the Club... catch it?? :) Or "medallion player", too. But thats has a more pejorative aspect... It's that player with a Big name and low production.
One more time, and I know you understood, there's no disrespect towards Hindu tradition here, just that we(Brazilians) loves this type of outside reference in football and life;)

Nice catch... But I worked in this area for years(physical preparation) and I just can't believe it's the case. If it's true, we are screwed!!
In any physical preparation, you work to your team(or individual athlete) to reach 100% at the "climax" of the competition. What could be the climax for a athlete or a team is up to them. But a athlete can't sustain his high level of fitness several months. The body can't hold it and fatigues, injures star to pop...
I believe it was just the atmosphere, confidence, first game at home, Ibra presentation and a poor team that gave a impression of extra gear for the players... Well, I hope so.

Heh, no, I was trying to reply to the guy that said 'sacred crows'.
Do we really need to replace Pirlo? I mean, do we have to find a player with his qualities to replace him in the team? I think we should just find a new formation that doesn't need a deep lying playmaker and avoid the situation altogether.
4231, with Flamini and KPB behind our Fantastic Four, or eventually once Ronaldinho leaves, we can get an attacking midfielder that can defend as well, maybe Schweinsteiger or a similar sort of player.

Don't know why you guys are still talking about the ManU and Inter games last season.
Not going to even mention the 2nd Leg of the ManU game, as there were just too many injuries. But during the 1st Leg, it really was not the midfield who lost the game, it was pretty much a one in a million fluke goal, or just a random Dida's moment that helped ManU started their come back. The injuries to Antonini opened up the whole right flank for ManU to attack. Then even our Rock of Nesta and Silva felt asleep for one second allowing Rooney to score.
It is true that with better finishing, Milan could have won that game but I think it was the defense that caused the lost more than the midfield.
As for the second game against Inter, I just think Inter played better than Milan, it was as simple as that, as they did everything right against Milan.

Where we trying to offload Abate?
There is absolutely no way this is our 100% fitness level! NO WAY. First, Allegri and some players said we are still not ready fitness wise ( Allegri specially said so ). Second, that would be a suicide and Milan as a serious club, with MilanLab at helm, would never do such thing. #rd - Allegri is not an amateur, even I know that is a suicide move. If Pirlo, Ambro, Dinho, Seedorf have NOw reached top fitness, we dont even have to play this year, we are lost.
We just had a good game and moved well. I'd say we looked move ORGANIZED then before. The positioning of the players was better, with midfield trio playing in line etc.
Where we trying to offload Abate?
Unless Montelongo becomes a very good RB, we won't let Abate go.
RB: Bonera, Oddo, Abate
LB: Antonini, Zam, Janku
3 players for each, already in balance.
@ Geo: Could you please research some info about how Monaco, especially Pierre Aubameyang play :D
I think one of this guy & Paloschi could replace Pippo next season. Both possess killer instinct and have the same age (1989 born, like Pato).
He played full all 4 matches for Monaco until now and scored 2 goals in 2 last games. If he continues playing, he will reach a higher level, enough to be a sub in Milan.
Poor Paloschi now is not a starter for Parma and will cost us some money because of co-own contract. Pierre has an option to buy, but I think we can persuade him if he is really good.
Our fantastic 4 are second strikers or wide trequasita so we need a penalty-box specialist when Pippo leaves, IMO

It's my opinion. No Italian coach would afford that, and knowing how we played last season, with Seedorf who's pretty good in defending when he wants to, it's clear that with Pirlo / (Anyone else) midfield we're too exposed and without Pirlo we have problems creating from the back.
Don't worry, Pato is going nowhere. Don't forget that Ronaldinho is 30, even if he extends he can be great one season and then totally disappear next season. Remember Rui Costa. He was amazing in 2002/2003 and then he slowly became inconsistent, tired and everything what comes with age.
Anyway, one thing I'm sure of is: Robinho's buying is not a show-off move as many journalist are trying to indicate. I'm Milan fan for too long to know that every player who's bought here is bought with purpose.

Milan duo want Poli
Thursday 2 September, 2010
Sampdoria have revealed that the highly rated Andrea Poli is wanted by some of Italian football’s biggest clubs.
“Poli is of interest to both Milan clubs,” Samp director general Sergio Gasparin noted. “He has the potential to become the best Italian midfielder in the game.
“We’re just happy that he is with us for now even though we know that he is destined to play on some of the most important stages in the European game.”
Poli is a combative central midfielder and Italian Under-21 international who made his mark in Serie A last season.
Handed a regular shirt by then boss Gigi Del Neri, Poli proved himself to be a bright prospect for the future.
Poli, still just 20, is also understood to be of interest to Juventus given that Del Neri is now working in Turin.
What type of player is Poli? What are his plus and minus btw? Anyone can answer? Thanks before.

We shouldn't look to just "replace" players. We always talk about replacing Pirlo, Seedorf, Rino and also Kaka and Sheva. Truth is though, these are very unique players and that's what made them so special, they're essentially irreplaceable. What we need to do is consider the coaches thoughts about the team's progression and get players who fit his ideas.
Last season was Poli's Serie A debut.
He started 26, subed in 5, scored 0 goal and assisted once, received 6 YCs.
If for stats only, he looks like another Gattuso. :D

Not going to even mention the 2nd Leg of the ManU game, as there were just too many injuries.
It wasn't so much the injuries that cost us that match but the workrate which was practically non-existant from some players. You can't go into a match of that magnitude and have almost half your team strut around like they own Old Trafford and decide not to do their defensive duty. Even the commentators said they couldn't believe how little effort some of our players put in after they lost the ball.
This is one of the elements that has to change if we're to win anything this season.
"Is it possible to see the four stars playing together? In certain occasions yes, but with the right balance. It's possible," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Yes the players should have come out firing....but for some reason they had not been doing that for quite sometime, remember Cap's last game in San Siro against Roma, it was probably the worst game I seen Milan played that season.
The other thing about Leg 2 was that I think the players just gave up after the first goal. But I don't blame them mainly due to their form and injuries at that time.
It seems our mercato isn't closed yet ... There are rumours of our interest for François Clerc who has no more contract if I'm not wrong. I already said I wouldn't want this player, but if he is free, reduces his wages compared to the ones he had in Lyon and comes as a backup for our RB position, that's ok (but isn't it too many "if" ? :D).

I miss this player. If our budget was not too tight, we should let him (or Hunter) stay.
Against Lecce, he took part in 1st and 2nd goal, in his own way.
Good luck, Borri!
I hope Borrielo knows that he is only going to be a bench warmer at Roma, he has Vucinic, Menez and Adriano ahead of him. Good luck to him nonetheless, I hope he has better success in Rome.

Not really actually ...
Playing in his role, there is only Totti (who is often injured) and Adriano (who is fat and already injured).
Vucinic is sometimes used as a striker but he's not a striker, so I think he'll play again on a side, a bit like Pato had to do last year, but coming from the left (I think Vucinic prefers coming from the left).
Menez is always used as a winger, and he is a winger.
So their attack should be something like
Menez - Vucinic
--- Borriello ---
IMO, Borriello is the kind of player Roma needed to step up, and now they have him (and like they really lack real strikers in their squad, it was an even bigger need). So this championship could be interesting and offer some surprises like Inter ending at the 3rd place ... :D

Yeah
Benitez is not good at controlling his players, so winning a top league outside Spain is hard for him. That's why he tried to buy a lot of Spanish for Liverpool, and now he wants the direct disciplines like Kuyt, Lucas, Marsh...

Spot on, that may be the truth. He really treats his players like second class citizens, I am sure he is a decent tactician but he is not much of a leader, he has no charisma. He is one of those coaches that has a plan and everything worked out but is not able to relate to his players or inspire them.

If we had offloaded janku I'd say definete yes, as such I'd like to see De Vito promoted a few times as he looked good last year.
Spot on, that may be the truth. He really treats his players like second class citizens, I am sure he is a decent tactician but he is not much of a leader, he has no charisma. He is one of those coaches that has a plan and everything worked out but is not able to relate to his players or inspire them.
It's the kind of thing you can even more easily notice when a coach leaves his club ...
The guy left Liverpool (Europa League this year) to go coaching Inter (the best team in Europe last year) and I read nothing about some of his former players saying they want to come to Inter to follow Benitez. I saw no praise from these players. It's like if the coach left and it's normal despite all the years he had spent in England.
When you compare to Ancelotti, all our players praised him, saying they will miss him. You can also compare to Mourinho, some players even said they would be glad to follow him in Real Madrid. We can do a list of coaches who are like that.
Benitez isn't one of this kind.
And I stated it once already but Benitez is a "black cat" (that has probably no sense in English, when superstitious people see a black cat on the same pavement as them, they are afraid something bad could happen to them), and to be convinced, you just have to look at the situation of both Valencia and Liverpool after Benitez left ... :D
So if Benitez stays in Inter for more than 1 year, I think he'll easily destroy the club on the long term !! :sweeteye:
If we had offloaded janku I'd say definete yes, as such I'd like to see De Vito promoted a few times as he looked good last year.
Why if Janku left you would have accepted Clerc ? I don't understand the link between both players actually ...
Wasting more money on a sub lb, even if Clerc is better.
Wasting more money on a sub lb, even if Clerc is better.
But Clerc is a RB, he can't play at all on the left (but if you want my opnion, he can't play at all in our Milan !! :D).
After reading how happy seems Rosella Sensi about the reinforcement of Roma with Borriello, I wonder if there isn't a reason not linked with football in this move !! :D

Milan Keeping Tabs On Santos Ace Neymar – Report
The young Brazilian forward, who is rated as having as much potential as anyone, could move to the Rossoneri in the summer, however, Barcelona are also watching the player...
Milan are keeping an eye on prodigious Santos hitman Neymar with a view to signing him.
The Santos player is regarded highly in Brazil. The legendary Pele recently stated that Neymar could become better than he was.
Sportmediaset.it claims Milan are following the ace closely but they will need to play a high stakes game in order to force a possible transfer through. Reports suggest Santos want €30million in exchange for their man. Neymar is currently tied down to a contract that expires in 2014. But voices in Italy suggest a €20m offer from Milan should be enough for all parties to agree a deal.
Neymar, who plays as a second striker, is similar to Pato. He is strong and has pace in abundance. Milan will be keen not to let this talent slip through their fingers. Barcelona are keen on him and thus Santos will likely hold out for the highest bidders.
Although there is plenty of interest from around Europe, the player’s agent, Bruno Misorelli, is pushing Neymar to Milan.
"He [Neymar] has plenty of personality and he could play brilliantly alongside Pato," Misorelli told Sportmediaset.it.

Great! It's what we need right now, another forward. Seriously, the money would be better spent on van der Wiel or Coentrao having already screwed up with Cissokho.

Buying Neymar would be one of the best things Milan could do in a mercato !!
I don't know if it's possible, I don't know if these rumours can be real or if they're just built up rumours, but if that had to happen, I would welcome this guy with no doubts !!
Anyway, bringing this player, such a talent, would definitely mean that one of our aces (Pato or Ronaldinho) would leave.
If Ronaldinho leaves, that will mean we will change our formation (as we'll have Ibra, Neymar, Pato, Robinho) and tend to play with a more central midfielder supporting two strikers, or in a more attacking 4-3-3 with 1 striker and two second strikers supporting him.
If Pato leaves, that will mean we wanted to build a new team and decided to finance these moves with the sale of Pato.
So yes to Neymar in Milan no matter what happens during next summer.
And no to Pato leaving for sure.
But if Pato had to go, I'd prefer having Neymar in Milan than "just" keeping our current players without adding Neymar.

yeah i was thinking he would be a replacement for r10, because think about it. when players hit their last few years they always go back to their home league. maybe an exchange? im pretty sure neymar has the talent to take up r10s position

Why would we buy Neymar to use him this way ?
The guy is a second striker/striker, he's probably going to be one of the Top 5 strikers in the world in few years (like Pato :D) and you would want to use him as a winger to replace Ronaldinho ?
If it's to do such a thing, let's save some money by not taking Neymar, and that will also save his career.

Neymar to Milan is a nice rumour, but he's not what I consider a necessity for Milan. Also, what would make me doubt this transfer at all is that we cannot lose focus on our primary aim in recent years, which is to push youth development at the club and bring through talents from our youth set up. I fear if we were to get Neymar, then it would be a massive blow for Verdi, who looks very capable of stepping up into the main squad.
Speaking of youth, I read some of Rino's comments of late saying Italy lacks quality atm. He says it's not to do with foreign players, because other nations have a lot more foreigners than Italy. I do think Italy has some quality players (not enough coming through though), but they simply don't get enough chances, particularly at a high level. Without the chances, Italian youngsters will never develop to top level players as they will lack vital experience to do so.
If I was managing Italian football development at the moment, then I'd take a leaf from Spain's books. The Spanish have won the last Euros and World Cup, but the process to achieve this started back in the '90s. Back then they invested a lot in youth development programs which resulted in Spain becoming a prominent force in youth football. These youngsters are now the stars of Spanish football we see today. Same goes with coaching, as Spain invested a lot in the development of coaches and the result is today Spain has the highest number of professionally qualified coaches in world football.
Finally, there are a lot of comments about Benitez of late and how he could ruin Inter. Whilst Benitez has his flaws, I don't think it's wise to dismiss him as he is a very good tactician (actually he's an excellent tactician). I genuinely think that if his Inter click, then they will be a force to be reckoned with. His Liverpool, before politics effectively put the club in a dire state, was a very strong team that was feared in Europe and had a record in Europe that only a few teams surpassed (only Milan, Barcelona and Man U I think did better in the past 5-7 years). I'm not expecting him to build a side like Mourinho did last season that wins everything, but at the same time we cannot take him lightly.

Benitez never managed to build a team able to compete in Europe and England at the same time ... The year he won CL against us, they ended 5th of Premiership if I'm not wrong !! Last year, the whole season was a shame for such a club.
His record in CL may be good, his record in Premier League is really not worth a club like Liverpool.
He managed to build a new Liverpool (I even don't remember who was their coach before Benitez), but that didn't last for too long, the club was alive just thanks to the CL.
It's why I personnally think Inter are among the favorites but no more THE favorite to win Serie A this year, and like I don't think they will win another CL, after living their best year ever, Inter could leave a normal year again this time (=> no title) ...

Inter didnt really strenghten their team at all... if anything the team is weakened.
they sold balotelli and brought in coutinho. atm we dont know where either of them will end up as players wc or good or w.e. so there u go.
then, milito was the main man scoring goals last year, could he do it again? plus hes pretty old. mou to benitez is a big downgrade i dont care how good benitez and i do agree he is stil a good coach. and finally the last thing in the way is US. and not the milan of last year. were alot stronger, if we came close to 1st on two occasions but then messed up we can do it this year.
Actually, Inter & Roma's squads are quite old, with average age of 28.5 & 28.6 respectively.
http://www.transfermarkt.de/en/serie-a/startseite/wettbewerb_IT1.html
(For this site, they make Milan a squad of 36 players, so with the youngsters, of course our average age is smaller, but that's another story.)
With the 28.5 average age and almost starters older (Cesar 30, Zanetti 37, Maicon 29, Lucio 32, Samuel 32, Cambiasso 30, Stankoivic 31, Eto 30, Millito 31), they will soon face the problem of aging squad, because they are the physical side.
And even in this season, after playing many matches led to the trebe and a World Cup, I think their fitness is already suffered.
IMO, Milan are still the oldest, but we are technical side, and we have more young or in prime age starters & reliable players: Amelia, Silva, Sokratis, Antonini, Flamini, Pato & Robinho (I saved Abate & Boateng for some reasons).
Inter only have: Chivu, Santon, Motta, Schejder, Mariga & Pandev while Chivu, Santon & Pandev aren't consistent.

There is something that made us unhappy in June/July but that's a good thing nowadays and for the whole season (Serie A mainly, in CL, that doesn't count that much) I think: few of our players were at the WC and none of them played a lot of games.
If we only take our real first team players:
- Amelia is 28
- Roma is 36
- Abbiati is 33
- Onyewu is 28
- Nesta is 34
- Sokratis is 22
- Oddo is 34
- Janku is 33
- Zambrotta is 33
- Montelongo is 22
- Bonera is 29
- Thiago Silva is 25
- Yepes is 34
- Antonini is 28
- Gattuso is 32
- Seedorf is 34
- Strasser is 20
- Flamini is 26
- Abate is 23
- Pirlo is 31
- Ambrosini is 33
- Boateng is 23
- Pato is 21
- Inzaghi is 37
- Ibrahimovic is 28
- Robinho is 26
- Ronaldinho is 30
- Odu is 19
If you make the average age: 802/28= 28,64
(EDIT: If we forget Roma, Oddo, and Janku who will probably never see the pitch, that gives us a 27.9yo team which is good)
IMO, that means Inter, Roma and Milan are all experienced teams (at least, for us, there is a good mix of experienced players who won everything, it's the case for almost all our 30+ players, then you have some players who should be in their prime, and then you have few players who are really young and will learn).
Next year, I think a good goal to reach will be to have a 27.5/28 average age ...
Gabriel489
02-09-2010, 23:21
I think a better average age indicator is the first 18 players.
Since unless something terrible happens, Roma will not see any first team or even Coppa's actions.
Odu might have a game here and there, same can be said about Strausser.
Oddo, Janku and Montelongo might play a combine of like 10 games including Coppa.
To me the top 20 players for Milan, can't think of top 18, as I think Pippo and Gattuso will play a role in the season:
GK: Abbiatti(33) and Amelia(28)
RB: Abate(23) and Bonera(29)
CB: Nesta(34), Silva(25), and Papa(22)
LN: Antonini(28) and Zambro(33)
MD: Pirlo(31), Gattuso(32), Seedorf(34), Flamini(26), Ambro(33) and Boateng(23)
FW: Pato(21), Pippo(37), Ibra(28), Dinho(30), and Robinho(26)
That's an average age of 28.8, but if you take away Gattuso and Pippo and make it at Top 18-then the average age is 28.17.
We might still look like an old side, but the options that we have this year are definitely much much better. We no longer have to count on players like Favalli and Beckham (who to be honest wasn't bad at all and exceeded expectations). We have added some young and fresh blood in the back like Sokratis and the tempo will not go down with him in the side like it used to with Favalli.
Also, the midfield is where we look the oldest especially when we start with all of Pirlo-Ambro/Gattuso-Seedorf. And this is the area where we looked to be overpowered and over-run by more physical sides in the past few years. However I really expect Flamini to finally step into the side this year (especially with Allegri openly saying that he will focus on him much more). And add to that what looks to be a very lively, dynamic and physical Boateng and all of a sudden the perception of our midfield Changes. Because we can now make changes within games/during games and stay physical and keep running with teams.
The only thing the i really hope for this season is that we finally start giving some chances to our youngsters (Strasser,Merkel,Verdi,Oduamadi, etc). Even if only for a few minutes. Yes they will make mistakes and so on, but so do the veteran players. And if we never let them play, then they'll never fulfill their potentials. For example in the game against Lecce, at 3-0 in the second half I would have much rather seen Strasser go in rather then Gattuso. Save Gattuso for a 1-0 game or something. We simply need to give the youngsters chances.
*About Neymar, whether that rumor is true or not....he won't come in January for sure. We have filled our non-EU signings quota for the season with Robinho. So for any developments on non-EU signings we'll have to wait until next summer. Anyhow, just to put my 2cents in there.....if we really wanted to bring in a player from Santos in, then I would much rather have Ganso with our current team.:guw:
inters aging too yes. and can you tell me what mw stands for in that chart
This is a German site, I think "MW" is Mittelwert, means average value.
Inter: 361M / 28 = 12.89M

Nefremo; robinho has a spanish passport... I remember him taking it while he was at real... Check more than 1 source. I think we still have the nonEU spot open.

You're right, but I think youngsters are for long term, when Gattuso & Boateng could give more in less time. I mean they will have their chance in another match. With Allegri, we could be sure about that.
Last match, we suffered from Lecce's attack in second half when Ambro was tired. And when Gattuso & Boateng came, we controled the match and scored another goal.
If those were Strasser & Merkel, I think the result was likely worse. IMO, G & B are still much better and more experienced
A 4:0 win and almost domination is better than 3:1 at this stage. We should keep the spirit as high as possible.
I saw Gattuso was a better ball-player, not just trying to chase down opponent when Boateng moved a lot and focused on the ball (maybe a litte too much, but it was not harm). If these 2 master there way of playing under Allegri's guidance, we'll have 4 players with enough abilities to control the mid: Ambro, Flamini, Boateng & Gattuso. And feel save if 2 of them present in each match. Quite deep.
Strasser & Merkel will have their chance, but at less important & special moment :D
Aficio, now that you mention the spirit of the group and the fans....plus the differences between 4-0 and 3-1 then it makes sense. On top of that the signing of Ibrahimovic on the day and all the enthusiasm that was going on around the stadium. So ok, I forgive Allegri this time.:D
Hitman, you are right. I just checked a few other sites and they claim that Robinho holds a Spanish passport which is great. I always check footballdatabase.com when it comes to the EU/non-EU part and they've always been right so far but not this time I guess. Besides, you are a huge Robinho fan (judging from the other day's festivities on the forum and your comments, which by the way should be written as 'epic' in MM :D) so I would much rather trust you on the matter.:D
So now that makes me wonder if Berlu and Galliani have some sort of a plan that they left the non-EU spot open. Or is it just a coincidence that we simply weren't interested in a non-EU player this summer.

In the midfield we have good cover however with abate who can play their and flamini and now boateng.. boateng looks pretty good to be honest.. and nefremo i agree with u too if we look into buying neymar we should switch to ganso tbh cause he'd really help our midfield.. however the article read his agent is trying to push him to milan.. he thinks it would be the best place for him because of the brazilian atmosphere and he can develop alongisde pato, which i fully agree with however we dont really need strikers lol.. but none the less a talent like neymar isnt something to pass up on

The new rules for signing a new non-eu spot have a condition: We must get rid of one in the squad too. Even if we don't want one, we must get one in January - at least to offload him in the summer to get a new one next year.
It would be wise to invest it into a 15-21 year old South American. Only player I know that fits the bill is that 15 year old argentinean new messi we were linked with. His name starts with an O.

and i read this about ganso on goal.com forums
Ganso: "I've always wanted to play in Italy, especially for AC Milan"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, Ganso is the most wanted at the WC by the Brazilian coaches according to a recent research made in Brazil with 17 out of 20 coaches from our Brasileiro league. Because his style is unique, and he could take Kaká's position in case the latter is injured. I also think he should go there, more than Neymar or Ronaldinho. I hope he's on the list tomorrow (though I kind of doubt it).
Anyway, here I am watching this video from globoesporte.com, an interview with Ganso, Robinho, and André (another Santos forward). They talk about all kinds of things, and then at some point they ask Ganso: "Which country in Europe would you like to play?" to which he replies "Because of my style, I think I'd fit very well in Spanish football. But I've always wanted to go to Italy, I've always wanted to play there, especially for AC Milan."

lol berlu is such a boss read this article
Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has showered praise on club supremo Silvio Berlusconi for completing the deals for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho in the closing stages of the summer transfer period.
The Rossoneri landed Ibrahimovic from Barcelona on a season-long loan with an option to purchase him outright and on Tuesday signed Robinho from Manchester City on a four-year contract.
Speaking to Sky Sport 24 on Tuesday evening, Milan's Galliani said, "These two signings were a great present to all the supporters from Silvio Berlusconi.
"Robinho will wear the number 70 shirt, Ibrahimovic will have the No. 11. Robinho cost €18 million plus bonuses.
"For so many years I have not seen Berlusconi so in love with Milan. On Sunday Silvio told me to go and buy Robinho also."
Ibrahimovic's agent Mino Raiola added, "I never spoke with Milan about Maxwell. He is very happy at Barcelona."
On Tuesday striker Marco Borriello left Milan to join Roma and told Sky Sport 24, "I am happy, it is an important move for my career. I will speak more tomorrow."

Someone posted in other forum. Here is the link (http://forum.acmilan-online.com/showpost.php?p=796086&postcount=1384). I don't know the reliability of the information.
I finally took a look at our balance sheet of transfers for the summer, and I believe the information is VERY inaccurate.
-Sokratis's payment is unknown still as it doesn't mention any cash.
-Robinho's wage is unknown and has EU status
-Hunter did not earn 4m with us
-Yepes actually earns 0.8m a season
-Amelia is a FREE loan with an option to buy fully next year for 2m
correct me if i'm wrong someone
Allegri has said that he aims to reach the Wembley CL final...he also said that we will try to find a balance to field our star-sudded Ib-ro-pa-ro-vic (cool name huh?)

Bold part: I've just read the news. Too much talking is not wise. I treat it as a appreciation to his boss, the current & wanna continue italian Prime Minister. However, anymore of it, and I start to worry. We also have problems, fans know that, the players know that and he knows that himself.

I think he is just giving confidence to the fans that he believes the team can challenge for titles. Or would you rather him say, Milan can reach the Semi and he will be satisfy.
Besides, it really takes a lot of luck to win in CL, as forms and injuries play a huge part in advancing. I mean, Milan was on fire in late Nov-beginning of Jan, but after that they hit the lowest point of the season and then had to play ManU. If the knockout round was in December, it will be a completely different story.

With Berlusconi is this kind of mood why not ask for Coentrao, Van der Wiel, Ganso and Neymar? :ilol:
In all seriousness though, the matches against Ajax will give us a good chance to have a look at Van der Wiel (unless he's injured of course), with a bit of luck maybe he'll impress The Wallet (Berlusconi) enough to sanction a move.
While the talk of Neymar or Ganso is fantastic, don't forget that Chelsea made a bid of about £18 million for Neymar and were turned down. Ancelotti will go back again in January you can be sure of that. It's also rumoured that Man City have an option on both of them as part of the loan that took Robinho to Santos in the first place. Probably all hearsay, but you never know.
If we were to get one of them in the winter transfer period then it would probably be best to leave the player in Brazil until the start of the 2011-12 season (unless injuries meant otherwise).
Also, don't forget Rui Costa's involvement at Benfica. I'm sure he'd be able to do us a good deal on David Luiz and Coentrao ;)

I think in 2 yrs, David Luiz will be useful, but not now. no point wasting a WC defender on the bench.
Yeah, I know, but it should not become a habit, because Milan attract many attentions now. It is hard to focus when thinking too much about the good ending.
After being overjoyed, there a fans, include myself :D feel calmer and more critical about the team. The big signings become unknown qualities for us until we saw them play some matches.

In fact, this year Berlusconi spent nothing for Ibra and 18M for Binho when we got 13M from Hunter. So his gifts worth only 7M in money :D
Yes, his gifts have much more value than this amount of money, but he still keeps his saving habit.
However, if he lost in the election, Milan will get more attention from him :devf:
About Ganso: the guy should be more "needed" than Neymar in Milan, but don't forget his injury ...
And for the non-EU spot, that smells a new Brazilian star during the winter (when the chammpionship in Brazil is ended) !! :D
EDIT: Just read a quote of Coutniho ... is he the new Kaka' (regarding his behaviour) ?!
People, Berlusconi didnt spend THAT much money! We also sold players for 25mln! That is the price of Ibrahimovic, and we had like 30mln bugdet so...
Anyway, if we do invest I believe the money will be Gazprom's, as some news say. From next year Putin will invest 150-200mln into Milan, which partially will be used for the new circle.
Coates in january, and tuttomercato also says Mexes is our objective since his contract is running our in the summer and Milan and Roma talked about him when Borriello was sold.
I'd also take Ganso over NEymar, in a sec! We have Pato, Robinho... We dont need Neymar. There is also Verdi!
Ganso would be my first option, but the non-eu thing worries me as we can only sell Pato or Thiago from non-eu players! And that is not a good sign.

And why ?
The non-EU spot is about the number of non-EU you can buy in a season ... Nowadays, it's only one. We don't care about the non-EU players who are already in the team.
If we had 2 non-EU spots each season, we could for example buy 12 non-EU players in 6 seasons and send 11 non-EU players on the pitch. It's an example, of course, it's not possible (but it is allowed) to do so for many reasons ...
If we buy Ganso, I'm sure he will stay in Brazil until July because of his injury. For Neymar, if we buy him, I'm not sure about what could happen, maybe he could also stay there, or he would come in a case of injury crisis in our attack (which would be really linked to unluck because Ibrahimovic, Robinho and Ronaldinho are rarely injured, and I expect Pato to be less injured this year as he has ever been !!).

The question is: regarding all the "write an insult" there is in Inter, what does he do there ?!
He also said afer what you wrote: "Do you want to discuss about the beauty of feeling God inside you ?" ... Typically the kind of sentence he couldn't say in France nowadays !! There would be 150 different jokes about that already. :D
People, Berlusconi didnt spend THAT much money! We also sold players for 25mln! That is the price of Ibrahimovic, and we had like 30mln bugdet so...
Don't forget the wages, i think that is what Berlusconi is putting money towards rather than the transfer fees.

We haven't used our non-eu spot yet so we are allowed to bring one in this season (which will obviously now be in the January window if we do get anyone). With this in mind, neither Pato or Silva would have to leave.

I didn't knew where to post this nor it has anything to do with Milan, but today is 21st anniversary since tragic death of Gaetano Scirea, one of the greatest defenders in history of the game.
Here's how Roma fans honored Scirea's death:
Scirea - Un uomo, un campione: Onore
They don't made players like this anymore...
Raiola: "Balotelli-Milan? Impossible is nothing"
In mercato everything has a price and everything is possible he said to 'Radio radio Tv'
Raiola also does not reveal if in the contract of Balotelli exist a clause that prohibits the transfer of Balloteli to Milan: "If it exists or not, is my problem."

Francois Clerc to Milan? Released by Lyon so because he is a free agent he can sign outside the transfer window. Used to be quite good, but not so sure anymore.

His agent mentioned something about his knee being okay.
I think thats one of the reasons Lyon threw him out.
Given our penchant for not going for "injured" players (Cissohko anyone?), I say we probably wouldn't consider him.
I would choose playing the youth as backup compare to that unknown player. For the first time I read his name, I thought he is the player that has Seedorf as his name (Seedorf's brother or relative). If the youth is not good enough, better use Sokratis, Bonera or Abate. Our pundit from France also doesn't recommend him, that what I can summary from GeoTav posts about him. :D

Have to disagree with uhere as David Luiz needs to play to get better. I also don't buy that players can learn from the best through training, as Senderous, Darmain, Kala, Grimi and others all stayed in Milan and trained with Nesta, And Cap, still none of them are good defenders, they are boarderline solid.
If and when someone like Dacid Luiz comes to Milan, he needs to play on a regular basis and not staying on the bench. Players need to learn from exps and exps means play time.
And why ?
The non-EU spot is about the number of non-EU you can buy in a season ... Nowadays, it's only one. We don't care about the non-EU players who are already in the team.
The part I underlined makes no secnce Geo, Im sorry. I didnt ask that, I asked about Milan buying non-eu player NEXT season. If we do not sell any non-eu players in next season, can we still buy one non-eu player? If not, next year we cannot buy non-eu player, or we first need to sell one of ours? This year we sold Dida and realeased one place.
This year we can, of course, that is not the quetion. Im not for getting Neymar at all, we do not need him. Lets not be greedy people. Ganso is much more needed in Milan, and Essien :)
I do agree about Pato's injuries, I also expect him to be more stabile this year. Actually now this sounds stupid as I do not know nothing about his phisical state and Im not a doctor who sees him everyday in Milanello. This is just our wish... BUT, Pato is a bit older, maybe it the case as with Messi, maybe.

I think it's just something the agent threw out there in an attempt to get a bit better deal out of Nice. He could be a good player again, though, if he's healthy.

I may be a bit late but let me just congratulate all the members of MM on finally signing some world class players Ibra and Robinho are no doubt two top class players. With the quality of these two guys up front we will at least now not drop many points against the weaker teams.
Well done to our management and I feel sorry for Borriello but with all due respect to him, Robinho and Ibra are players of different class.

No this is not true.
When we had 2 Non-EU spots open, one was free without needing to get rid one of one, while the condition for the second spot was only if one previous non-EU player leaves the club.
They now cut down from 2 Non-EU to 1 Non-EU, and the spot is not free any more. We must get rid of one previous player to sign one. We already got rid of Kaladze and Dida, however next year we will have a problem as we don't have any Non-EU players on our squad that we want to get rid of (only Silva and Pato).
A solution would be in January to sign some cheap Non-EU player from a Serie A club and send him out on loan back to his club, then bring him back in the summer only to sell him.

That is what Im talking about. Im hoping Galliani is not getting ready to sell Pato for some big money next year. Just like we sold Kaka after buying Dinho etc.

So if that's the case, we can get rid of one between Strasser and Odu next season ... Both are registered in first team and are non-EU (it's actually maybe one of the reasons they are registered in first team ? :D).
The fact they are already co-owned can even be a first step towards their sale ...

AC Milan's midfield 2009-10:
Pirlo, Ambrosini, Seedorf, Flamini, Gattuso & Abate
AC Milan's midfield 2010-11:
Pirlo, Ambrosini, Seedorf, Flamini, Gattuso, Abate & KPB
---------------------------------------------------------
Now here is the deal. Last season every one here was going crazy about the lack of depth, quality, movement & creativity etc etc of the midfield. The only new addition is KPB & I get the impression that most of the ACM fans don't rate him highly.
SO
What makes you guys think that same so called slow & old midfield would not repeat the same thing which they did last season? Unless you think KPB is the difference maker, there is a huge point of worry here To win a league you need a Lampard, Xavi, Iniesta, Bastian-S, Sneijder & Ballack type of a midfielder. Does AC Milan has that kind of a player? Do you guys believe in Pirlo to deliver? I have my doubts here :dconf:

Pirlo will shine for sure this season ... why am I so sure about that ?
He will have moving players around him (possibly Flamini and/or Boateng, Robinho and/or Pato) + 2 easy targets (Ibrahimovic with his size, and Ronaldinho if Pirlo is unable to produce a good pass).
Last year, around him, he had only Pato for some games and Ronaldinho when he was in a good form.
And it's not about pace/speed, it's only about the way the players move, they can move slowly but move, it will be a good thing if they do it for 90 minutes and a big new step compared to last year.
Out of topic: Subscriptions for CL increase every day ... it looks like San Siro will be again the home of Il Diavolo in CL !! 27200 subscriptions have been sold for CL (22103 last year) but only 24492 for Serie A (25780 last year).

Simply bc of the attack, I had been saying it for sometime, that if any team having a great scorer in today's age football world can be consider a great team. on top of that, Pato, Robinho will prvide great speed and movement up front, while Ibra is a target man as well as someone who can dribble pass two defenders.
Flamini did not play a major role last year and he will if Alllegri is not lying. Then there is KPB, as his running and movement are what Milan lacks last few seasons.

SEBASTIAN COATES will join the Rossoneri.
According to reports, AC Milan have secured the services of 19-year-old highly-rated central defender, Coates, who will start wearing Black & Red in January, when the transfer window reopens.
Coates is very tall (196 cm) and has good physical strength and great qualities; he’s good at high balls, good placement and high individual technique. He’s mobile too, and for that, he’s been likened to Brazil Captain Lucio.
Milan have started looking for replacement to the ageing Alessandro Nesta (34) and the young Uruguayan, who plays for Nacional, could be the man of Milan alongside Thiago Silva in the future.
The player will turn 20 by January and therefore he won’t be able to play for Milan’s Primavera, meaning he will be either loaned out or used in the first team.
Coates has played 12 official matches and scored 2 goals with the Primera División Uruguaya side. He also has 10 caps in the national team.

also.. milan seems to really be doing it with there youths, maybe we'll have the best goalie in the world in 4-5 years time :)
The outburst from Serbian talents continue after it was confirmed that the 15-year-old goalkeeper of Vojvodina, Lazar Petkovic has signed for Milan at the end of week.
Petkovic is considered for one of the biggest “diamond” of European football. Vojvodina’s goalkeeper has also impressed Carlo Ancelotti and Alex Ferguson, whos’ been under watchful eye the entire season.
Arsenal and Liverpool have also been interested in this fifteen year old boy, but eventually he has ended up in the Milan’s jersey, after the trial to the San Siro, which is confirmed by Vlada Borozanm the agent of this amazingly talented goalkeeper.
“After the trial Milan decided to sign a contract with Petkovic, leaving behind their competitors: Chelsea, Manchester United, Zenit from St. Petersburg, as well as some German teams. Lazar has been a member of the youth national team,” said Vlada Borozan.

The day he will score goals in CL and in big competitions with Netherlands, we will have the right to say "if only" !! :D
One of our rumoured targets of the summer is going to play some minutes with the French NT (Gameiro) ... He's going to replace Saha who just came in and is already injured (Saha is the most fragile player in the world !!).

We all know know Hunter is a quality finisher, Galliani knew it, thats why he signed him, Allegri knew that, everyone knows it. He just did not shine for us, maybe due to poor service, not playing and all that. Galliani didnt want to let him go because he knew what Hunter can do, but ones Ibra and Robinho arrived, then it was ok for him to go. It obviuose we got better players now.

we had two solutions,
1 keep huntelaar, and change the midfield and they way we play
2 sell huntelaar and bring someone who can take care of his own
we took the cheaper solution, classic #9 can't be working with a formation like this, especially of the squad we have (inzaghi is a one of a kind)
we cant play 442 since we dont have wide useful midfielders (abate, janku are just crap)

labenese great post.. its true he didn't fit into our formation hes a pure striker, if you gave him the ball at midfield he wouldnt know what to do. the difference is if ibra or robi got it at midfield theirs even a posibility of a solo effort.. or even outside the box.. i dont think ive seen huntelaar take on many defenders and score // hunter none the less is a good player, but ibra and robi are world class

Until now, Boateng hasn't showed something really special.
The mids are almost the same but with more movement, even Seedorf looks like Speedorf, and the introduction of Merkel.
So Pirlo will have the target to pass.
Both Dinho & Pirlo are great playmakers, but they are different.
- Dinho is a quick passer who passes the ball to the space where opponent can't reach. Problem is sometimes even teammates couldn't catch it.
- Pirlo is a "thinking" passer. He calculates how to let his teammates get the ball easily to continue the flow.
Pirlo's style is therefore slower, and if his teammate doesn't move, his passes could be predicted. He plays deep, so each wrong pass will be very dangerous.
Dinho plays higher and even if his pass doesn't reach, it still looks very intelligent & creative, leads to assists, and of course, not harm.
Yes, the difference is not absolute, but it exist.
I think even Pato's passes will get better, too.
He has the ability of putting the ball where he wants. However, playmaker is not his main role, and with the static teammates, he found it hard to pass.
And... he has been the player who moves the most :D so it is harder for him to find a target. Dinho was marked, Borri is not very good at off the ball, and back pass is not a right solution for a forward.
When Hunter scores, we can now think objectively why Hunter couldn't prove his quality with Milan. When he failed to score with Milan, many would blame him in a second. LOL
Good for him and Schalke really got good price (but if we compare Ibra prize, what Schalke got is in normal price though :D).
Schalke will be a serious force in the UCL this season. Mark my worlds. They have signed some great players. Metzelder, Raul & now Huntelaar.

metzelder who played like 30 mins in the last 5 years ,raul and off course huntelaaar

You can't compare Huntelaar's hattrick vs San Marino and Zlatans 0 goals vs Hungary.
a) San Marino is far worse than Hungary. San Marino regularly loses with 6-0 type results (Germany won 13-0 last time, in S. Marino)
b) Holland is a far better team than Sweden. They made to the WC final, Sweden didn't even qualify.

Seems like the rumors about the Gazprom deal are heating up again. Supposedly they'll buy 20-30% for 150-200M euros.

Also on a side note I read an interview with Robinho on La Gazzetta today, seems he is ok with staying on the bench.
Geo whats going on with the french nt? i feel sorry for them
Well, they're bad, as simple as that ? :D
There were some missing players (and I think they'll also lose in Bosnia next Tuesday), but that's not the main reason.
Blanc tries to build a new team by taking new players AND some of the former ones.
While taking Lloris isn't a bad choice, when I see Blanc sending Sagna and Clichy on the pitch, or when you see Hoarau (the guy who wins all headers but his headers are systematically passes to the opponents) as main target man, etc ... You understand this team can't do anything good.
Flamini as a RB would do 5 times better than Sagna ... and Flamini isn't a RB, that shows the level of Sagna. As a LB, Clichy just does nothing, not very good behind, not very good forward, it looks like this "hyped" player isn't as good as the hype tells ...
I just watched the last 25 minutes (I watched Italy before), and they simply did nothing at all as a team, never managed to be dangerous. This French NT isn't a team, and there isn't any potential player able to win the game by himself (which is needed when a team doesn't play like a team).
So it's a normal result, France will probably end 3rd or 4th of this group !! :D

I would like to see Paloshi in Milan when he is more mature, but as an immediate replacement for Inzaghi, I can only see Pazzini fitting the bill, he wont come cheap though.
We have 2 ready-to-mature forward: Paloschi and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The latter is starter for Monaco now, number 11, played all 4 full matches this season and scored 2 goals.
Paloschi is not a starter at Parma, it will be hard for him, though I think he possess better killer instinct.
...and I think they'll also lose in Bosnia next Tuesday...
From your mouth, to God's ears :D
he'll impress The Wallet (Berlusconi) enough to sanction a move.

For winning Champions;
You need solid defence and solid team defence.
for winning Scudetto,
You need a complete squad which has depth and 14-15 quality first team players.
This Milan is offensively great no doubt, yet defensively we need some investments, for midfield and wing backs to win something.
Above all, Robinho, Pato and Dinho should help defence and do their jobs in team defence.

Being a huge fan of Brazilians (ever since Milan started buying them :D)
I would definitely say Ganso. I can already feel the anticipation of some signings in the coming few months.
One fullback, one central attacking midfielder will near complete our team for a couple of years to come.

I dont understand why everyone is saying we need someone to replace Seedorf when Seedorf doesn't play a big role in the team, only as a super sub. And now we have a super sub, Robinho or if we want another one we can get Beckham again. I would like another midfielder, I don't care where he plays I just want a class one. My dream Cesc Fabregas. We need to get a midfielder and a fullback. Next summer or January- Andrea Poli and Van der Wiel/Coentrao
What you said about Seedorf is pretty not true 3forever. Seedorf until now has been playing as starter for Milan and in my opinion we actually player like Seedorf's type for our midfield since we can't rely only on Pirlo's creativity since if he is marked then no one from the midfield can substitute Pirlo's role to manage the play in the midfield.

I may be a bit late but let me just congratulate all the members of MM on finally signing some world class players Ibra and Robinho
We didn't sign them. The team did. (And Robinho is not world class.)
This year we sold Dida and realeased one place.
Dida's contract expired and he was let go. He wasn't sold.
If Dinho continues his from and renews his contract, I don't think we would sign a top ACM.
This set of mids give more balance to the team.

Yes but in that case, Ronaldinho and Robinho can supply passes, I understand in the past Seedorf was an World Class player, I understand he can still contribute but I don't believe his type of player is vital to our midfield since we will be playing with 3 forwards, who can all make their own oppurtunities. Pato is a speedster, Ronnie is a dribbler and passer, and Ibrahimovic doesn't need perfect passes every time. That's why this season other teams can't afford constantly cover Pirlo we have so many individuals who can play they just have to work as a team.
PS Im not doubting Pirlo's importance, but I am just saying we don't need two players like him (Even if one plays further up) because our forwards can create their own oppurtunites
i'd say Pastore, just because i know him better, his pace and strength reminds me of Kaka, less finishing.
Regarding Robinho, He is definetely a world class player, as he proved it many times, with the ball under his feet, he can do anything, he will be very useful vs small teams, open their defences up with ibra, which was our biggest problem last season, as we lost many points. Robinho's finishing should be better, he should defend better, if he plays for the team more, for himself less, Robinho will do very well.
Poli, Wan der Wiel or Coentraro. Van Der Wiel, defensively he is good yet offensively he didnt impress me vs strong sides. Poli and Pirlo in same line up can co-exist? Dont get me wrong, i like and rate Poli, yet i consider him future Pirlo replacement, in rotation he and Pirlo can fight for there. Then we should sign someone complete for first 11, who can help the defence and team defence more, quick, presser, dribbler, agressive, strong, skilled, someone who can change a game by alone. Seedorf in his prime was doing everything. he was always a little bit inconsistent and his finishing was poor.
if we sign a world class WB and a complete midfielder, Fabregas would fill the bill for me,
as he is very good in many things.
Contreao should solve some of our full back problems, i think he'll be cheaper than Van der Wiel or any other good fullback in his age - bracket (he's young right?), as he's not very high profile (i don't know how highly he's rated in portugal though). if don Silvio (sorry, "the wallet") buys this guy.................

I think Coentrao is a very expensive player. I dont think he will leave for less than 15m. wich is a lot for a fullback.
For now, I want to see more of Bonera first. If this guy won't get serious injury, he could be a good FB. Defesive OK and his timing to overlapping is good. He is better than Oddo as the WC winner, who know only giving the ball to attendant and go back :D
And Montelongo, as a former wing mid, he could be another Antonini (former wing mid too).

One thing I"m worried is that both Ibra and Robinho talked badly about their previous employer. I am worried that they will do the same (i.e., damaging our reputation) once they are unhappy here, for one reason or another.
Prime example may be Kaladze. J

Kala can talk crap all he wants as I doubt anyone would believe him as he was really crap in Milan. Janku is another story, solid and then injured....
If there is anyone who has the right to talk bad about Milan, that person is Gila and maybe Hunter in the future. I believe that in order for the player to talk bad, he must perform at a high level after leaving the club. Robinho showed that in Santos and Brazil, while Ibra did not do bad at Barcelona. Actually I think Rioala made matters worse for Ibra.
Anyhow, I would not worry about ex players trashing Milan, as long as Berlu is willing to spend money.

My friend told me on BBM..he's a massive Ibra fan and he just said "I'm happy to join you on the rossoneri". I'm wondering wtf?? I knew about the rumours but I never actually expected anything to happen. I'm watching last weekend's game now and I see Ibra in the stands next to Galliani and Berlu. The Robinho one was completely out of the blue though..I don't ever remember us being linked to Robinho. I wonder how they intend to play him. Dinho substitute?
EDIT: WTF Kaladze is gone too?????
Huntyer may have a case, but gila was a lazy fck on the pitch, so he's is the only to blame for his lack of success in Milan. Janku can't say anything either. He's a terrible def and is lucky to be wearing Miln colours.
Kaladze was great, a WC lb, then he wanted to play cb, and he could've replaced Paolo, but Paolo get going and Kala imo couldn't accept being sub, yet stayed, and eventually failed in his standards, whilst other players came in and took a spot he thought he had a right too, and the rest as they is history.
I'd love to know how muc Genoa paid for him, and what his wage is?

There should be enough games in season to keep all 4 happy and also give minutes to Inzaghi, Odu, & Verdi.
It's a shame that we got such a good group in CL as if we got an arsenal group we could give youngsters more time in last 2 games after qualifying, but then I do think that blooding Odu & Verdi if we have injuries away to mardid would be a good education for them, as well as Merkel too.

Frankly I always thought Albertini to be slightly over-rated. IMO he always had his hand in midfield with better players, then when he was asked to be more of a leader he lacked the characteristics to do so.
I wouldn't say the club pushed him out like a Kaladze deal or so, more like they guided him to a new pasture where he could still play at a good standard.
Are we certain we secured Coates? (I found out, to my disappointment, that it's pronounce Ko-AH-Tes)

Of course not. That's why I said to move on when a better player comes along.
Besides those 4 players are products of bad management.
Imo when a players reaches 31 they should be giving 2 year rolling contracts. If they don't produce in the first year it's down to one-year, so they have produce in the next year to get a new one-year contract or it's ciao.
This doesn't apply to players of supreme qualifty who are hard to replace, but to the players who make up the numbers as in the 4 mentioned and others like inzaghi, ambro, rino.

I read an interview with Carlo. He said he came into the dressing room and shouted at everyone (including Albertini). Albertini told Carlo he had changed and then left the club the same summer. He wasn't forced out.
I did always think he was slightly overated, but not that much. He was a good passer of the ball, had an excellent free kick and organised the play very well. I read an interview with the youth team coach (at least I think it was him), who said Albertini was the most talented player he saw come out of the primavera.

Actually, from both Carlo and Albertini, it was a mutual decision. Albertini, at least at that time, did not like how Carlo were treating the team including him, mainly b/c they played together and were close friends. It was more personal than the club. But they still do respect each other and are good friends.
Personally, I dont think players should ever talk crap about their former clubs. Take Kala for example, he got paid like 4Mil euro a year, while also getting the best seat to Milan games, working with some great players, and getting exclusive privileges. What more can you ask for?

It seems we're loosing Ronaldinho. It's clear we can't afford to pay two contracts with 8 M a year, so Ronaldinho will have to take a cut, probably to 6 M, or he'll leave. It's now clear why we bought Robinho.

‘Allegri should drop Pirlo’ Monday 6 September, 2010
Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri should drop Andrea Pirlo, according to his former mentor at Pescara Giovanni Galeone.
Allegri has a selection headache after the signings of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho, although some would call it an embarrassment of riches up front.
It’s widely believed that Allegri will be obliged to play his new arrivals together with Alexandre Pato and Ronaldinho in the same starting XI.
That would obviously render Milan very offensive, so in order to make the team more balanced, Galeone believes Pirlo has to be the fall guy.
However, the attack-minded tactician also believes Pirlo’s absence could present Allegri with another opportunity.
Speaking to Tuttosport, he said: “Taking out Pirlo from midfield would mean you’d be able to add a mastiff in front of the defence, or even better a trequartista in attack.
“You don’t need a deep-lying playmaker with those four. Pato should play behind Ibra. This team can win everything,” he concluded.
that is rediculous,i cant believe a serie a coach actually said these craps..
Actually, if we don't have Pirlo, that's how we would play. But Pirlo is very special and we must build a team around him. Ronaldinho is too good not to leave out, so we have to play him too, and we can't play him anywhere but LW. That basically restricts us to one or two formations, and the only thing Allegri can do is figure out a way to play faster and more compactly within those constraints.
Ronaldinho really was put in a corner with the Robinho purchase. Kind of a Checkmate by Galliani. He doesn't hold all the cards, like he did early in the summer. Play well, get a good contract (not a great one) and win everything with us. Slack off, leave for the US and we have Robinho to replace you. Basically we took the gun Ronaldinho was pointing at our head and shoved it up his ass.

Bold amounts of money: ?
Anyway, in Italy, there is no player who is like Pirlo nowadays. And you don't find that kind of player each time in the same country. They are few in Europe to have a good level/great level ...
Xavi is the guy who is the most like Pirlo, even if he plays a bit more in midfield and goes forward more often. In Auxerre, you have Pedretti who is the French version of Pirlo (you'll see when we'll play Auxerre). And then, I don't know any other player for this role.
Anyway, I'm not sure trying to replace Pirlo is the solution for the future. We should maybe try to change the way we play. Milan was Milan before Pirlo, I don't understand why we should now get a new Pirlo to still be Milan when he'll leave/retire ?

Well, he's not, so don't sweat it. At best he's a mediocre coach with several experiences at some yo-yo teams.
I think with Robinho and Ibra's arrival we faced the similar problem Barca did when they had the also called Fantastic Four: Messi, Eto'o, Dinho, and Henry who joined the latest. Even then they rarely played together.
Dinho began to struggle at that time, although he did chip in some goals/assists. Henry himself didn't impress either (he finally did in his second season though). My point is while it will unbalance the team by playing all the four at the same time, it's a good thing having players of their calibre since there are so many games in a season, and everyone will get their chance.
It will be hard for Allegri to resist the the 2 "DM" formation. Unless Pirlo does the (World Cup) Schweinsteiger type role don't be surprised if he gets less games.
Well, he's not, so don't sweat it. At best he's a mediocre coach with several experiences at some yo-yo teams.

I thought the same as you.
Our F4 are all in top or ready to be in top while Barca's F4 all had own problems: Messi was still young and injury-proned, Henry was decreasing and spent a season with injuries in Arsenal, Dinho came back from WC and must take all the burdens & blames because Eto has been only a fast & strong CF.
Basically we took the gun Ronaldinho was pointing at our head and shoved it up his ass.
i agree on everything except your first sentence,if pirlo is out we have to play 3 of seedorf fla ambro rino or even the younger ones..of course i am talking about serious matches..not against teams that cannot pass 3 times in a row..
we would be totally outrunned,we would have 20 meters space between the lines we wouldnt be able cover markings etc..
and also neither binho nor dinho should play as a 10 imo, they are clearly players who need space and 1 on 1 marking so as to perform as they can..opponents wil play 10 players behind the ball most of times so as to not let anyone unmarked, and fast sc on the counter..also if we play with ibra-pato in front and the others on the wing we would nt be able to play possesion game as we would clearly need a more playmaker type of dmc.
and once nesta is out we re doomed with a 4-2-4(!!)..it would be easier though if we had both essien-mascherano()..
the thing is we're too slow on the medfield to try such a system..

i agree with your post.
Oh, I forgot the word "However" in my last post :D our problems are not as big as Barca's
Moratti said Inter are not old: http://www.football-italia.net/sep06q.html
It's true, but they are not younger than us.

I agree. I didn't mean that it would be the best way to play, tactically. I meant that we would sort of be forced to play that way politically. Since we have Pirlo, we have two political problems and the best one tactically wins. I don't know if that makes sense, but I think it does...
In terms of balance, nothing beats 4-4-2. 4-3-3 works when you have the attackers also doing their share of the defensive duties. 4-2-4 is just plain stupid especially against top opponents.
Actually 442 isn't viable anymore, since it has only three bands, 4XX and not four, 4XXX. You can't play with three anymore because of the intense physicality of professional football nowadays. Playing against a team with four bands means you have less room to move and they just pummel you into submission; meaning the big gap between attack and midfield, or midfield and defense is too much that players become isolated.
When people say 433, they don't mean it literally, meaning that it's a flat 3 in the middle or attack. It's usually just shorthand for 4312 or 4231. The difference is that you don't have three lines of players anymore, but four. The variant of the 442 that most closely resembles that classic formation is a 4411, and that's considered to be an ultra defensive formation nowadays.
SO Luca Antonielli, Parma's LB made his debut for Italy this past game. Didn't Milan used to own him? What happened? More importantly, is he any good?
damnit...do you remember guys, a year or two ago, when we got both Antonelli and Antonini back to club from the loans..there we were, laughing out at our management (most of us didnt even know who those two were), and there was a guy (can't remember his name) who was all over our nerves praising them both, saying both of them could be great players blah blah.. :ilol: I think he was banned from MM because he confronted with everyone...and now it turns out he was right :devf:

i feel like i will be shot for saying this but i sometimes feel Pirlo restricts us in the way we play and not replacing him might not be a bad thing as it would allow us to expand on the way we play.

I agree since he is like our General in the game. But without him I do think we will only get worse though except we buy other WC creative/offensive player.
Antonelli is good player, not great. İnter is considering him for rotation, for rotation he is good. yet we need first class wing backs for starting line up, not rotation players...
4-3-3 is much better system than 4-4-2, just look at how we play with it, pressing, pressure up, i love the way we play with 4-3-3. im happy with it. 4-4-2 is old fashion, 4-3-3 is the hit for modern football.
in 4-3-3, i must confess that we lack something, our midfield trio and attackers, our midfielders let the rivals play their game, not much destroying or keeping the ball so much there, when they lose the ball, they dont come back to tackle back for example,
in hard occasions it will happen again. this is why im expecting Flamini and Boateng do this job, keeping the ball, pressing, pressure, tackle, showing fighting spirt. i think that our midfield with Ambro,Seedorf and Pirlo, soft and slow midfield, for strong teams.
Then another problem, Pato and Dinho(in the last game Dinho did well on team defence though), Pato at least tried more than before. we need to solve this problems if we want to win something big...

Antonelli is very over-rated and when you see him play 3-4 games in a row you will realize it. He is even worse than Criscito.
Here the latest betting odds I found online:
Champs League:
Barcelona 3.50
Real Madrid 6.00
Chelsea 6.00
Man Utd 9.00
Arsenal 13.00
Inter Milan 15.00
Bayern Munich 15.00
AC Milan 21.00
Spurs 34.00
Roma 41.00
Serie A
Inter Milan 2.20
AC Milan 2.87
Roma 6.50
Juventus 8.50
Fiorentina 41.00
Napoli 41.00
Europa League
Man City 6.50
Liverpool 11.00
Juventus 15.00
Atletico Madrid 15.00
Sevilla 17.00
FC Porto 17.00
Villarreal 21.00
CSKA Moscow 26.0
------------------------------
So even winning a treble (Inter) and winning a double and reaching CL final (Bayern) is not enough to convince the stupid English? How can they list Man U, Chelsea and especially Arsenal ahead of Inter and Bayern? Even Milan should be ahead of Arsenal. They even have City and Liverpool as favourites for the Europa League!

Don't take this the wrong way, but when the hell did Antonelli and Antonini became great players? Both of these guys are very good rotation players who can be effective as a starter but if you are talking great, you are comparing them to the likes of Evra, Lahm, Maicon and Alves, and they both suck big time when compared to those guys.
I think Antonelli is a good sub for Antonini, we should get him if we still co-own him. But we sell him totally to Parma last year, so no need to regret. We could find an even better option. After Ibra, Robinho, we should demand higher :D
About 4-4-2, this is a balance formation, too balanced. That means not weak but not strong, all player must at least do their job properly to get regulary result. Not easy to beat, but there is no cutting edge to win, they won because of the better players, not by tactics. 2 strongest 4-4-2 in this decade, IMO, are MU 1999 (Schmeichel; Neville, Stam, Johnsen, Irwin; Beckham, Scholes, Keane, Giggs; Yorke, Cole) and Juve 2004-2006 (Buffon; Zebina, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zambrotta; Cambiaso, Viera, Emerson, Nedved; Del Piero/Ibrahimovic, Trezegue). Both dominated their league but failed in CL (MU just won a quite lucky one, after that even Ferguson realized 4-4-2 didn't suit CL then buy Nistelrooy & Veron to switch to 4-5-1).
Like brk said, 4-4-2 has just 3 bands when the morden 4-3-3 is 4 bands with the variations: 4-2-3-1, 4-3-2-1; and there are other famous 4 bands formations like: 4-3-1-2, 4-1-4-1, 4-1-3-2, 3-3-3-1,... 4-4-2 is kind of obsoleted. Only Tottenham still success but their 442 is very dynamic with special players.

Simple logic = win.Benitez is tactically inept he always does the wrong thing and he is an ego maniac for a guy who has no reason to be.
Antonelli has played well when I have seen but honestly it was only twice , you guys may think Im good if you see me play twice maybe even great..lol.

Sacchi's 4-4-2 was THE formation. It was flawless. It's not about formation, it's about how you fit the players in it and how you transform it. For example, Sacchi had 4-4-2, but it was more like 4-3-1-2. He actually invented trequartista position in 4-4-2. It's not widely known that Donadoni was a prototype of 4-4-2 trequartista (not a winger like goal.crap says). When full backs pushed up (also first time used expression "full back"), along with one CM (Rijkaard), with the other CM (Don Carlo) and side midfielder (Colombo/Evani) covering, he had something like 2-2-4-2. Also with Baresi pushing up and full backs staying to cover, it could be like 3-4-1-2, or even 3-4-3.
Actually in Sacchi's team, every player could adapt for any position, no matter where he's found in a moment of time. He's famous to say that in his team regista (deep-lying play) was whoever had the ball.
Other coaches started to use trequartista's regularly sometimes in '95 or '96, almost 10 years after Sacchi implemented it. Sacchi was WAY beyond his time, actually he's even beyond this time.
Every Milan fan should watch Steaua finals, it's available on Internet and it's the best game I've ever saw from one team, even better than one from Capello's team against Barcelona. It's just amazing how they killed second best team in the world in only 45 minutes. If Capello was/is known to work every tinny tactical detail into perfection, Sacchi actually didn't had to do it because his foundation was so good.

we played for a long time 4-3-2-1 Christmas Tree under Carlito...
That's sort of what we're doing now... it's a not a 4-3-3.. the 3 up top are not all forward.. Ronaldinho floats somehwhere between mid and forward..he cuts in as well..so I would not say 4-3-3...
Probably Barca plays the most like a 4-3-3 but everyone gets into attack in that team..they play 1 touch and everyone's always moving out of their positions....
I'd say the formation we used against Lecce should be our GO_TO standard formation. Then, we can also do a 4=2-3-1 when we need goals or against lesser teams...
Robinho can play in Ronaldinho or Pato's positions..while Pato can play in Ibra's if he's out. Simple as that. That will be the way they play.
Pirlo will play in that formation just like he did against Lecce and also Seedorf a lot..
If we play a 4-2-3-1 (Please everyone stop saying 4-2-4)
Then,,,, we'll play like this:
Bonera----Nesta--T. Silva----Antonini
----------Flamini--Ambrosini/Gattuso-
Pato----------RObinho---------ROnaldinho
---------------Ibra---------------------

I cant wait for the Cesena match , I honestly believe in that match we will see RO-IB-RO-PA they are one of the weakest teams to have come up in a long time and we will beat them , Im never that confident about a victory in Serie A but I am about this one , Im happy we have Papa as he will give Nesta the break he needs in some games Yepes aswell .The fantastic 4 will not play in all games but against teams like Cesena Lecce Brescia Cagliari Bologna and Inter(thats correct pezzo di merda) they should as the will have way to much in attack and with Pirlo and Boateng/Flams/Ambro and A rb Silva Nesta/whoever and Antonini we will win.

I don't expect a new pirlo from poli, pirlo is so unique. I expect poli might become a cambiaso type of player, all around skill set for defensive midfield, the morden definition for this position.

It's an away game and tickets are sold out so the fans will be cheering all game. It's not that easy. Cesena aren't as bad as you think, either. They have some good players and gave Roma a few scares. We definitely won't be seeing the four from the start, I can guarantee that.

apparently were interested in both poli and palombo.. 10m for palombo and an a pparent 15m bid for poli should be enough to bring both in.. who would we sell? unless berlu is up for spending another 25m :S apparently in the article on goal it said that galliani is willing to spend the 15m on poli it would be great to see them two and prince boateng and flamini playing in the midfield, we'd have a completely rejuvinated team...
btw i feel we dont bring up merkel and verdi enough.. they have good potentials in both of them, merkel could be a good replacement in midfield, i feel we only need one more good fullback and one more midfielder.. id be very happy with jjust poli and a rb

Brasileiro - What do you know about this Joao Pedro guy, who came from Atletico Mineiro to Palermo?
He is 18 years old and Zamparini said he could be a "new Kaka"...
How do you compare him with another 18 years old talent like Coutinho?
Do you know any other football talents in Brazil who could come in cheap and could turn to be a star?
I know two guys, Ganso and Neymar, but they are extremely expensive, also Robinho was very expensive when he left Brazil!
We bought Kaka for almost nothing, Inter bought Coutinho for nothing too, we should try to find talents, who could cost us less than the first two mentioned!
I know Pato cost us a lot 4 years ago, how can it happen some guys like Kaka, Coutinho cost much less than the others and they are still in the same level and have the same impact?!
In my opinion, this is all timing, we should steal players before there is so much hype around them!!!

You're right, but 20 years has passed and Milan at that time had the strongest players, played the most inovative strategy and 4-4-2 was just the number in paper, not exact formation, as you said. We were very dynamic.
4-4-2 of Juve 2004-2006 was pure 442 with 1 legendary GK, 2 worldclass CBs & DMs who played most of the matches, 2 tireless wingers support 2 tall strikers. It was the best static 4-4-2 I saw in recent years but they were not that invicible in CL.
Sacchi's time was to remembered but even he himself was not too successful with Italy and other teams. So I think the formation & strategy must suit the players.
Dinho, Pato, Binho, Ibra are not just one-dimensional players, so a 4-4-2 might not suit them.

Italy made to WC finals with him, only to lose on penalties, even when he was without some very important players (Tassotti, Baresi) and even when he had only one striker in form (out of four). Sacchi couldn't made it in some teams because he always wanted to play with team players, with complete players, not specialists... He tried almost 50 players before 94 WC only to take 23 of them. Nowdays football is all about specialists. Now you have Ibra and Ronaldinho who don't want to track back (why bother?!) so you need Flamini. But, you can't play anything with Flamini because all he can do and all he's willing to do is to pass it to the closest teammate. Furthermore, when you have specialist, what happens?! You close Pirlo and there is no Milan. That's why I said Sacchi is even beyond this time.

Agree with Sacchi is beyond his time.
But disagree with footballer becoming specialists. I think only Milan have those players. When you look at all other strong teams, their midfielders are pretty much all box-box and can both defend and attack. While how good they are at it is a different story, but when you look at the midfield of Milan, only Flamini, Ambro and Boateng qualifies as two way midfielders. Seedorf can if he tracks back, but Pirlo and Gattuso ain't. I think if anything, footballers are becoming more well rounded players than just concentrating on one aspect of the game and try to be best at it.
I would not rank Ibra as a specialist, as his jobs is to score goals and create scoring chances for others and not track back and defend. Even MVB did not tracks back during Sacchi days. I mean, Ibra is probably the most complete striker(beside his big game flop thing), as he can dribble pass u, shoot with both feet, act as target man and got some speed. As for Dinho, I think he is who he is, he is probably the best at what he does. Unless you can reach the level of Dinho, you really can't play like him and get away with it, same goes for Pirlo and Gattuso, they are specialist in their own right, but unless someone can reach the level that they once were, you just can't rely on that and gets into a good team.
Geo, What do you think about Clerc? i think that he is free agent and however linked with us lately much.
Italy made to WC finals with him, only to lose on penalties, even when he was without some very important players (Tassotti, Baresi) and even when he had only one striker in form (out of four). I didn's play down Sacchi's idea, my point is you need players to work for your idea or your idea must suit your current players.
Italy 94 was Milan-Italy, the Great Milan which he's just created, so he didn't face many problems, but Italy 96 was different and his experiements failed miserably. Sacchi, IMO, is one of the most inovative & respectable strategist, but he just couldn't always force the players play like he want. Even his comeback at Milan was fruitless.
The coaches who understand his idea and apply it practially like Capello or Mourinho are more successful than him. And as a fan, I want coaches like them for Milan.
Allegri could be the one. This man studied about Milan a lot and know great deal about strategy. You want complete players? He made Seedorf a more complete midfielder, and even Gattuso is better with ball now. Dinho gains motivation and player more central, more active under his guidance. Milan now also play more dynamic and unpredictable. These make me think Ibra, Binho & Boateng could be very useful, not just in paper, but for a "new" Milan, which means they will be more complete, too.
Pirlo can't be more complete, this guy is already a complete midfielder, IMO. Something like speed, strength he can't learn to be better, but he can defend his way and play his best for Milan. However, this Milan will depend less on him.
I just wanted to say 4-4-2 is not something Milan should play, but talking about Sacchi's era bring good memories

These make me think Ibra, Binho & Boateng could be very useful, not just in paper, but for a "new" Milan, which means they will be more complete, too.

with regards to playing the fantastic 4 against Brescia, i don't think we will, if i remember correctly our clubs are very close almost like a brother club to us, if my mind is correct and not made this up i think we will show them some recpect and just go out to beat them not completeley humiliate them like we tried to do to LEcce and hopefully Cesena.

No, I don't think "specialist" like a player can't attack and defend. A specialist like he can play just what his position is and nothing more. Put Flamini, say, to create one attack just ONE. Can't happen in a million years. Then, let Abbiati throw the ball to Antonini, what he'll do? He'll pass it to Pirlo or T. Silva, he doesn't have an idea or even doesn't want to think what else to do with the ball. Bonera on the other side - the same thing. We have CBs who can do something with the ball which isn't just pass it to the nearest teammate, T. Silva and Sokratis both have ideas to come up with the ball or to play it long.
Aficio, I don't agree, Italy 94 wasn't Milan. Tassotti almost didn't played at all, Baresi played just two games. Benarrivo, Apolloni and Mussi were FAR behind Milan's level. Dino Baggio was miles away from Rijkaard. Nicola Berti was the worst player in Italian first 11 both in 90 and in 94. Evani was too old.
Then again he failed in Milan but Capello failed too, we were even worse with him. It has all to do with our aging defense. We were buying attackers and defense became too old, but that's another topic.

Thank for correcting me. I was just Milan's fan for one year back then and was amazed that my club had won CL after defeated Barca 4:0, then Italy NT has 7 Milan's players. For me, Italy was another Milan :D. I can remember 6: Tassotti, Costacusta, Baresi, Maldini, Donadoni & Albertini. I think the number was larger than any Serie A team at that time and Milan's spirit affected the national squad a lot.
After your comment about Antonini, I think your definition about "non/more than specialist" is very close to "player with football brain". As a former midfielder, Anto's brain is not small, IMO, but like Gattuso, he should leave the job to top of the world like Pirlo & Dinho.

I think it has more to do with confidence and exp. For now, Antonini just needs to be error free in order to secure a spot on the team. He is just picking his moment to run up the flank. At least thats what. I am hoping.

If Capello was/is known to work every tinny tactical detail into perfection, Sacchi actually didn't had to do it because his foundation was so good.
hmm, I don't consider Donadoni a trequartista at all. He was a player who'd break through opponents by constantly attacking their open channels. His role in the side wasn't to be a playmaker (not in the traditional sense at least), nor did Sacchi's ideals accomodate for a player to play this role. In the same way you use the regista example, every player had to be prepared to take up various roles in the attacking third.
I also disagree that Sacchi didn't have to consider every tactical detail like Capello because of the foundations of his tactics. Sacchi was a coach that scrutinized every minute detail of his team to try and reach his ideals (this is well known). That's one reason why he was so influential in football, as every player in his team was always a part of a greater system, with no compromise made to the system.
No system is flawless either. Sacchi's ideals on football is what made him such an important figure. However, his system was extremely difficult to put in practice and was very difficult to maintain over a long period of time (his team started dipping after only about 2 years).
Fact is Capello's Milan was quite possibly better suited to winning competitions than Sacchi's. Whilst Sacchi's Milan won a lot, Capello won a number of scudettos and reached the Champions League final 3 times in the early to mid nineties. One time we famously beat Barca, whilst the other two were losses. However, one loss was against Marseille which was completely unexpected (and that Marseille were known cheats) and the other against Ajax who won the match with a single goal right at the end (a match which could have easily gone the other way). Truth is, Sacchi's Milan was probably better than Capello's and his ideas on the game were revolutionary, but he had his weaknesses/problems too.
I'm not trying to lay into you in this post, I just disagree (maybe misunderstand) quite strongly with some of your points here, and feel we need to keep perspective on Sacchi's Milan. However, I agree with your sentiments, that Sacchi was a coach who devised a way of playing which should be a kind of blueprint for us now. It may seem I am critical of him at times in this post but he is the coach that has influenced me most as a football fan and is the reason I support Milan.
If you have a link to the Steaua game, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the answer, I love to talk about the best years of Milan.
Donadoni was attacking midfielder who was initially on the side, but he was free to move to the center, to come deep for the ball, etc. In one sentence he was attacking midfielder who loved to stay on the side. Gullit was Sacchi's first choice for that position, but because he and Saint Marco were injury prone, and Sacchi was unable to find a permanent choice for second CF, Gullit was most often fielded as striker. Donadoni actually played so well at that position that he became first choice and Gullit became permanent striker. After Capello came Donadoni became more like side midfielder and Gullit was AM. Actually Donadoni never came back to his old position because there were so many great attacking mids in Milan (Lentini, Gullit, Boban, even Savicevic played there sometimes) and because he was very capable to defend for a player of his profile.
You misunderstood me for tactical details. Of course, Sacchi's system was very detailed, but I thought about working every tactical detail into perfection before every game. Sacchi didn't have to do it, because his system was already almost perfect in foundation.
Yes his system was hard, but it was because he wanted everything to be perfect. When you see how great that Milan was, the kind of pressing Sacchi wanted was not necessary. Capello-like pressing would have been enough.
Of course, I'm not taking anything away from Capello, he's one of the greatest coaches of all-time, he won 4 Scudetto's in 5 years and was in 3 CL finals. Yes, he lost two finals but we were much better team in both and it was unlucky for us to loose.

Seriously start watching the games and spouting crap about his qualities. He's no Maicon or Alves, both of whom play in great teams and utilised correctly, but's on the level with Lahm & Evra imo. Nothing special about them.
The difference between Van Basten then and Ibra now is not about asking either to go back and help in defence which Van Basten did, but to actually put pressure on the ball in their area when we don't have the ball, which again, Van Basten did. Our success relies as much on what the forwards do without the ball, than with the ball.

You don't get a perfect system by not working on every detail. You say it as if it was just a fluke. The small details are the keys to success, not the big picture.

Who is going to take our Non-EU spot in January?
I don't think the management is dumb enough to let that spot go, what does everyone else think? Are we gonna let it pass or are we gonna invest small in an unknown player or invest big in a player like Dzeko or Ganso?
My personal wish is Honda, but I have a lil' nudge that if Ronaldinho doesn't renew we will go for Ganso (which is better than Honda, but Honda should be brought in the summer because of the marketing [it is very important]).
(btw, Coates has an Italian passport so it will not be him even if we sign him)
One of Ganso, Fernandez or Jucilei! Amin. :D
Ganso is an top class central attacker, so I think we should buy him only if Dinho leaves.
Honda is a quite complete player, if we don't buy Boateng, and Flamini fails to impress, we must buy him.
IMO, both are not much needed now.

OK, this is not the topic, Antonini is NOT a bad player, again, he's good squad player, but seriously when was the last time you saw him do anything with the ball which is not pass it to Silva, Pirlo or Ronaldinho, something more than 4-5 meter pass? And he's not near Lahm's level. Lahm is overrated, but he can make a run passing 2-3 player and make a cross that results in a goal, something Antonini can't do on his best day.
About tactical details again: "tactical detail" is when Capello limits Boban to stay on the side all the time against Barcelona in 94 finals (and not to float around like usual), to avoid "draft" on the sides, because Barcelona was dangerous on the sides. Sacchi would never do that, because his system was so good that when a player on that position (Donadoni) went to the middle there's always someone (Ancelotti usually) who would cover the side. Off the ball movement was so good that it couldn't happen that opposition plays quick counter though ANY channel and that we're lacking players to cover because someone just changed his position for a moment.

I think football nowadays absorbs the idea of Sacchi very well. This could be seen in last World Cup at tactical focused teams like: Holland, Germany, Ghana,... Ex: Van Bronkhost followed his man, Iniesta, even when this player drift to the center, Kuyt knew that, went back to defend the left.
It is sad that Milan, especially last year couldn't have this mutual cooperation, even worse. Watching Gary Neville ran from RB to half our field without any preventing from Dinho, Ambro & Janku, then crossed to Rooney, it was really painful. Milan worked like a machine, front 3 attacked, mid 3 passed to front 3 and stay deep. Part of it was Leo's inexperience, but we also lacked the right players.
Watching Dinho & Pato come deep to get ball and the mids go forward more make me believe in a great season. Let's see if the good run continues.

IMO I'd like him to be a Boban type of player with more skill, capable of playing all midfield positions like seedorf does. he is at early stage of his career, lot of upsides to develope, lot of uncertainty too.
I always remember zidanes' early days in junventus,he played a defensive midfield which was not his nature position back in french league, and in that DM period,he evolved into a master.

If it were true, then it's just something we'd have to accept. Ibrahimovic was an Inter champion so we'd get to taste the other side of things if Inter brought Kaka.
The only difference i would say would be in the player. I think there's a good chance Kaka would turn down the move due to his affinity to us and his own personal nature (i think Ibrahimovic is a bit more self-centered). However, i wouldn't rule it out completely. We'll have to wait and see!
One thing i don't think has any credit though is that Inter are 'tired of us always signing their players'. The majority of the players that have made the switch have been players they didn't want which we then turned into better players. It's not our problem if they didn't give them the opportunities they needed to flourish.
you are right. it is eventually up to the player. and both players have their reputation to uphold. Kaka wants to look loyal, and Ibrahimovic ....... never mind! :ilol:
