I have some simple questions/suggestions so maybe you guys can comment on it:

1. Antonio Di Natale? Noone ever mentions him in mercato news but he was absolutely one of the best players this year in serie a. For NT plays great ALWAYS and tactically and technically is almost perfect as a WINGER also. I think Milan could use him really well in long serie a season.

2. Co-ownership of Di Gennaro - that wasnt a smart move as now we will pay 5 mln next year again not to loose Di Gennaro who is one of the brighest young prospects of Milan.

3. Bring back Abate!!! Just bring him back and let him rotate, he is a good and young player.

4. Marzoratti is not good enough for Milan first team, I have that feeling.

1) Di Natale has been superb no doubt, but at 30 (31 early into next season) and not naturally fitting into our system makes it unlikely. More importantly, he's broke into the national team now and would look to command a first team spot.

2) Di Gennaro's on co-ownership? Is there any certainty to the deal at all? Until now I've read we've given him for Borri (a deal that's not official yet), no sources clearly stating how we've given him.

3) Abate would be a possibility to bring back, I said more in Kris' thread.

4) Marzoratti at this point isn't really being mentioned, and I doubt he'll be back this summer tbh.

1. Yes Di Natale is a good option. How old is he and how much do you think he will cost? Has he also had a good season with Udinese before this year?

2. Indeed, you are magnifying one case (in this case, Borriello whom I suppose none of us see his late bloom coming) and ignoring the fact that most co-ownership end up in failure. Co-ownership is exactly the way to protect the big club from selling the wrong player and let them to buy back. This is an insurance / option type.

No comments on 3/4 since I DOn't know these players well enough.

So this is our mercato:

Abbiati, Zambrotta, Flamini, Borriello e un altro attaccante

Abbiati is ours, Zambro cost maybe 8mil, Flamini is free, Boriello 6 mil, striker maybe 15 mil.

Yes, a kind of insurance in which we lost money to get Boriello back...we could have just loaned him out.

It maybe intended like that but I do think its the other way arround, as mrki said I think it's benefits small clubs more. Like this they get rewarded for their belief and training players from other clubs.
But it's how you look at it for example if Juve wants Lanzafame back next they have a head start against other teams that would want to buy him since they still own half of him.
To be honest I don't like that system (its typycal Italian, I don't know any other country who uses it.) IMHO either just sell a player or you loan a player out (with a sellclause if you wanted to sell him or without a sellclause if you want to hang on him).

Galliani says that Gourcuff is going out on loan to Bordeaux, Ronaldo is not renewing his contract, we'll have 3 keepers, 9 defenders, 6 midfielders and 6 attackers. Geo can you tell me anything bout Bordeaux ? Are they on the rise or anything?

He says that our youth players like Di Gennaro, Paloschi, Matri and Astori(whoever this is) are very important to him. He also says that ther'ell be meetings with Empoli to discuss Abate, Antonini(who they like a lot), Marzoratti and Pozzi.

Finally he says Carlo is going nowhere.

Today Galliani said,

Zambrotta will arrive in a few days.
Gourcuff has been loaned to Bordeaux.
Sammarco will come back from Sampdoria.
Boriello is Gila's replacement.
Another attacker will arrive.
We are still hunting for Ronaldinho.
Next year our squad will consist of 23-24 giocatori, fra cui 3 portieri, 9 difensori, 6 centrocampisti e 6 attaccanti”
Gila's sale price was 15 million euros
Oliviera's sale price was 12 million euros
Galatasaray have asked for Simic
Many Italian clubs are asking Coppola
Ancelotti will stay for a very long time!

GK: Dida, Kalac, Abbiatti ( Galliani says Abbiatti is coming back )
DEFENCE: Oddo, Bonera, Kaladze, MAldini, Nesta, Digao, Favalli, jankulovski, ZAMBROTTA
MIDFIELD: Pirlo, Ambrosini, Gattuso, Flamini, Emerson, Brocchi
FOWRARDS: Seedorf, KAka', Inzaghi, Pato, Boriello, CF
-----------------------------------------------------------

Galliani says Flamini will change Gourcuff who is will go an loan. FLAMINI IS NOT THE SAME TIPE OF PLAYER AS YOAN.

If this is the plan for reinforcements then its all gone downhill for us, for real. But I still believe Milan will buy some top class players, not just Boriello, Zambrotta and one forward.

I think you're enough smart to understand that Flamini is a numerous replacement of Gourcuff, and anyway, they're not the same kind of player, well, but Gourcuff was used as a DM/CM (not his real role), so Flamini will bring an improvement: putting Gourcuff on the pitch as a DM/CM is worse than putting Brocchi as an offensive midfielder, whereas Flamini is a typically modern DM/CM ...

Mystik, Bordeaux finished 2nd of the last French Ligue 1 (2 points behind Lyon, they had a similar season to Roma) and so they will play in CL.
They seem to have a good project with a mix between young talented players and older and more experienced ones. Their coach is Laurent Blanc (no need to say who he is I think ? lol).
They have asked for Gourcuff for months, so I think he will play like a starter in a good team of this championship.
Actually, I said once on another topic or maybe here that I was optimistic that next year, Lyon wouldn't be alone in the championship anymore, Marseille and Bordeaux could be able to try to take their place (if they don't fail like each team supposed to be one of the favourites to beat Lyon).

So Gourcuff goes in a promising team (only have to confirm) that will probably play in top of Ligue 1 and CL. It will be difficult for them to pass the groups stage but who knows ...

PS: And Bordeaux has its own star ... Wendel, the new master és free-kicks in France, and probably in Europe (he's Brazilian) !!

I will bet to anyone the forward will be Shevchenko!!!

Abbiati (already played in Milan, coming back for free)
Zambrotta (31 year old)
Flamini (coming for free)
Borriello (already played in Milan)
Shevchenko (already played in Milan, and 32 years old)

He promised 7-8 signings, it looks 5 on the board and the other 2-3 will be some youth back from loan!

Where is the money from Sheva, Gila and Oliveira sales??? Almost 70 million euros!!!!

What a mercato!!!!
Guys, try to see from the other side, the good thing from the bad thing is that we have many italian players and will not be in trouble in 2012 when the Fifa rule comes alive:)

Anyway if this mercato will happen I still cheer for my beloved Milan like always and hope we can win the Scudetto and the Uefa cup next year!

Forza MILAN!!!!

That shows we don't need you to be here in order to engage in stimulating conversation!

Just kidding ;).
:delol: no offense taken Jeff...

It kinda reminds me of this "joke":

A man was seen in his office, talking to himself.

A co-worker asks him why he is always talking to himself.

He responds by saying: its the only way to have an intelligent conversation around here.

On the mercato: I am kinda happy that we aren't making too much noise yet, and trust that mgmt are going about the business.

R10, Drogba, Etoo.....whomever...I feel we will be reinforced, and in the areas we need to be able to be competitive in the Serie A.

Mourinho to Inter doesn't scare me at all....just makes me wonder who we can take from them that he feels are "surplus" to Inter's needs....

Galliani said somethink other day that now when we sold Cafu and Sergio we can buy 2 non-eu players... do you guys know how? He said it on tv.

Im hoping that Drogba will arrive in Milan as he is the kind of player we need. We also need to have in mind that we have probably the best young palyer on earth ( Messi excluded) in Pato 8 better then Dos Santos - who could be sold!!, Krkic and so on...).

But the real thing that would make our midfield and attack complete would be Drogba+Dinho, which sounds too much but it is not.

The thing with Abbiatti is a mistake and Milan ultras also expressed their negativiti about Abiatti coming back ( "chi on salta rossonero" man... ).

There are great players to buy, we just need to pay. If we dont do that they can lie and make excuses as much as they want, but Milan needs to spend money - simple.

GeoTav

Umh he made a mistake or the person in charge of the translation made a mistake: buying 2 non-EU players is impossible in Italy EXCEPTING the fact they were speaking about allowing Italian clubs to buy 2 non-EU players per year, but generally, when such a decision is done, it is for 1-2 years later, not so early ?!

You spoke about Dos Santos, he could be a good addition to the team: young and promising, able to replace Seedorf when he needs rest or Kaka' sometimes ...

I just want to follow up on that a little bit.

1) Yes, Drogba will be the kind of person we need, and Drogba + Dinho will make the squad compelte that's for sure. Unfortunately, I Don't know if they will come; drogba for sale by Chelsea? probably not. I hope dinho will come, but again it's just plain difficult to lure big teams to sell their supposingly big names to another big club.

That needs massive amount of money (with few exceptions).

2) Abbiati is hated because: 1) he is perceived to have screwed us up over Buffon; 2) he is perceived to have screwed us up again for the young French star. His unwillingness to come back to Milan is just plain obvious to see, and try to do the utmost damage to Milan's transfer policy for GK?! I don't know, but Im not optimistic. I WILL NOT sleep well if he is on goal. Who knows what he is thinking. I would rather prefer to have Kalac or Dida.

3) I thought Milan is still in debt; I don't know all the finance structure; if someone can update me that that will be great...

Abbiati is a professional player, not a kid wanting to burn his house because he hates his parents lol (what a comparison !!) ...

If he stays, he will do his job for sure, but we can understand why he doesn't want to stay, can't we ? He was treated like a dog ...

Buying more than one non-EU in one year (season) is not impossible if Milan only add one non-EU player to the squad in that time and loan the others to other italian clubs and take them back a year later. In the time these players come into Milan squad, Milan still can buy and add one new non-EU (aside from the loaned players) to their squad.

I dont know if Milan have done these kind of transfers before.

Normally you can't, there's a rule in Italy forbidding clubs to buy 2 non-EU players in a single season ... here it's not the fact of adding them to the team that is important but the fact of buying them.

I dont know the detail regulation. If you have the detail rules, you can post here. What I know, Inter have done such of transfers (bought more than one non-EU players in single year) then loaned them directly (before adding to squad). They took them back a year later. Their GK from Brasil (I forget his name) has done this kind of stuff.

So, my logic says that the loaned clubs 'paid' for the non-EU spot for non-EU players of Inter.

GeoTav
31-05-2008, 12:59
I don't have the detailed rule, sorry, but I'm pretty sure (99% lol) that an Italian club can only buy one non-EU player by year, no more.

In Spain, it's unlimited, like in Portugal if I'm not wrong, in England or Scotland, you must "win" your "permite" (umh I will look for the real word, it's my own translation, far to be sure of me there lol, I mean the paper allowing you to work in England), in France, it's like in Italy but there are some countries in Africa with players not counting like non-EU players thanks to some political agreements, etc ...

Galliani: Eto'o, Drogba, Ronnie, Adebayor, Benzema Or Gomez

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has revealed his summer transfer plans as well as his striker’s wish list.

The Rossoneri are currently undergoing a major facelift within the dressing room and they are keen on several big name players.
However, the club has taken a financial knock after their failure to qualify for the Champions League. Galliani admits that he will be spending wisely but he has not ruled out a host of top-name hit-men.

“We are not really looking to sell our important players, but rather buy some,” said Galliani.

“However, we need to look at our spending given the fact that we didn’t qualify for the Champions League.

“In defence we are looking for someone like Zambrotta where as our midfield has been strengthened by the arrival of Flamini.

“Up front we definitely need another striker after Gilardino’s departure.

“Eto’o is the object of our desire and Ancelotti would like him here.

“Laporta doesn’t care who he sells Eto’o to, be it us or Inter.

“He asked me for €50m but I ran a mile.

“As for the rest of them, we are interested in any one of Europe’s best strikers including Drogba, Adebayor, Gomez, Benzema and Ronaldinho.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So gomez and benzema are in the picture now also...i just hope he keeps his promise this year not like he did last year after all that Mr. X bs...

I really dont care who comes, all of them are great players.
Maybe adebayor is the weakest of them all but he's just about right age...

If that's true what Galliani said, I will laugh. :delol:

I know that we won't money as much as when we play in CL but when we were playing CL last year, he didnt mention that we should look at our spending (buy decent players red.) as we had money from CL.

I am still upset with Milan's silly plan last year with respect to transfers Milan did.

3) He revealed his zebra colors by singing "Chi no salta rossonero" after Juve won the (revoked) scudetto, in addition to hamming it up with the Juve ultras. He obviously wouldn't touch us with a ten-foot goalpost since ever since we loaned him to Juve, so why the hell we want him back is beyond me.

Whatever; I think the club has been so successful in its management with the players (seldom do players talk bad about Milan) may have left a few spoilt players out there who don't know how to show gratitude.

Some good news out of our projected squad for 08-09 is that we'll have 4 strikers (not counting Seedorf and Kaka) which means our main formation SHOULD play 2/4 of these strikers. This means that Kaka goes back to CAM where we'll see the REAL Kaka with Seedorf as his sub hopefully :D

Therefore we need 2 strikers (Borriello is almost definite + someone...personal preferences are Huntelaar or Benzema), 1 creative CM, 2 fullbacks (Zambrotta + another) and a GK.

As Pato will be a guaranteed striker I don't like the idea of buying Dinho anymore. Dinho will not enjoy the idea of being rotated with 4 strikers. Dinho will always want a starters spot, so that's 1 striker spot already gone. Pato needs to play to develop so that's the second spot gone. What happens to our other 2 strikers? Do they play Gourcuff roles? Carlo definitely won't bench Dinho/Pato often enough to keep the other two strikers happy.

That's why I believe we should go for someone that's less of a superstar and won't throw a fit during rotation. Maybe Huntelaar...or Benzema if Lyon want to sell for a reasonable price.

Unless he's unhappy to be there. There is nothing wrong with having a player like Ronaldinho on your team. I believe management would explain the situation he'd becoming into and if he decided to come he'd understand how he would be used.

He'd be just as effective, or IMO even more far more effective than Seedorf in the same or similar position.

The only thing would be the price tag. :greed:

I think Boriello coming to Milan is worse than R10 coming. Boriello wants to be the starter and most likely won't be and if he is, I hope he can duplicate last seasons efforts.

With Dinho in team, we can use our midfielders more (Pirlo, Ambro, Gattuso and Flamini) in 4-3-2-1 formation or 4-2-1-2-1 formation (with Pirlo infront of Flamini/Ambro Gattuso and behind Ronaldinho and Kaka).

Ronaldinho will come, I am sure about this. But I am not that satisfied if we have only Pato and Boriello for our strikers (plus Inzaghi naturally). Paloschi should stay if Ronaldinho comes to give more options for Ancelotti if he uses 2-striker formation.

Mystik
31-05-2008, 15:53
Count Ronaldinho as a striker IMO because Kaka + Ronaldinho + 2 strikers will never happen. It'll be Kaka, Dinho + 1 more. That one will be chosen from Pato, Borriello and Pippo. If Dinho is a 100% 24/7 starter that is.

I also like the idea of Huntelaar at Milan. It's quite a surprise for me that it is so quiet around him concerning transfers. He allready said that he only will leave Ajax if a really big team wants him.
Altough it has to be seen how he will perform at a big club in a big competition. We will know more after the Euros, certainly the game Netherlands - Italy will be interesting therefore.

Anyway, the only fact with which all of us will agree is the following: Pato and Torres are/will be the next 2 best strikers in world for the 7-8 years ... (I would add Benzema, G.Rossi and Aguero).

Is G.Rossi so good as to rank aside those the others in your list? Even though i have been hearing very good things about him but haven't really seen how he play. I agree with the rest but it really depend on their further developement.

Is the grape is really ripe? Lloris is still far from ripe I think :bri:

I am not against his transfer as he is cheap and looks having talent. But I won't regret if he didnt come as he is still only 'the next Buffon', 'the next WC GK' etc as labelled to Gourcuff 'the next Zidane'. If we lost fighting a player like Drogba, Ronaldinho, etc to other big clubs, then I won't be happy as these players are truely ripe.

Spot on again.

Who the hell care about Amauri + Lloris? They haven't even show that they are the real deals yet. They are better players out there.

The one player that we must get is zambrotta, he is world class and he is available. If somebody snatched him from under our nose then that would really piss me off. The rest we can wait and watch how the drama unfold.

Sorry, for me he was not worth for that mount of money. It would be so risky for Milan to buy a striker who couldn't proved that he was really talented as media talked about. It's already years (4?, 5? or 6? years he had been in Atletico) but he didnt showed big improvement in his performance with Atletico.

So, what Liverpool paid for Torres was overpriced IMO (of course in that time). That Torres has been doing well with Liverpool is another case.

That's exactly my point, how long more does Torres need to show his class in La Liga. He has been a talent like for 5 years without actually moving on to the next step and is likely to bomb like our Gilardino. That's why many clubs kept an eye on him but nobody is willing to pay big money for him.

What kind of performance do you mean that more than justified his cost?

Here is his statistcs (some years with Atletico and a year with Pool):

----League -----Season--------Club-----Position--Games--Goals
Primera División 2003/2004 Atletico Madrid Angriff 35 19
Primera División 2004/2005 Atletico Madrid Angriff 38 16
Primera División 2005/2006 Atletico Madrid Angriff 36 13
Primera División 2006/2007 Atletico Madrid Angriff 36 14
ENG :Premier League 2007/2008 FC Liverpool Angriff 33 24

You can see how he'd done in Spain. In his young age (around 17 yo), he looks so promising but his 'promising' was not improving. The older he was, the lower his goals. Well, Gila was even better when he was in Parma :D (with regard to his price compare to his performance when Milan took him).

I think you have a point in that he didn't really improve his goal scoring record in Atletico Madrid, which could be troublesome. But you also have to look at it this way. Sure, he didn't become a top scorer in the league, but he was still very consistent. How many players score over 13 goals 4 years in a row? Certainly not Gilardino. Besides his scoring record, you also have to see how he has matured over the years in Spain. He has become a much better player skillwise and the fact that he didn't score more could be attributed to several different factors such as the level of play of the rest of his team.

Besides, I wasn't talking about his time in Atletico Madrid justifying his price. As I said, I also thought his price was a little high when he transfered too. But his performance in Liverpool justified his price. He had an impressive scoring record and he provided them with a reliable attacking options up front, something they have been missing since Owen left. 30 million euros sounds like a lot of money, but when you can get someone who can completely transform your attack, it is well worth it. After all, we spent 40 million to replace Shevchenko (Gilardino and Oliveira) and now we still have to spend more to get the job done.

If I am not mistaken, Tony rated Nocerino very highly in one thread (along with Giovinco). :D

If Nocerino is how Tony rated him, I think Milan would never give Nocerino plus money only to get Amauri (whom I think overrated. It sounds that he is in same level with Drogba, Eto'o etc.)

Gila scored 23 goals in 2003/04, 23 goals in 2004/05 for parma. So we went for him. He came out with 17 goals in 2005/06, 12 goals in 2006/07, 7 goals in 2007/08.

Even a off-form gila has a comparable scoring record with Torres except last season when gila play lesser. Its so damn easy to get 12-13 goals even for a off-form gila.

As the main attacker in a team, we should be looking at 20 goals a season.

Parma 03 - 04: 23goals
Parma 04 - 05: 23goals
Milan 05 - 06: 17goals
Milan 06 - 07: 12goals
MIlan 07 - 08: 7goals

I don't have total playing time available.

That's why I said previously I don't know if this is Gilardino's problem or is it whether Ancelotti sets the team up based on Kaka, reducing virtually everyone's goal in the attacking department.

FYI:
Shevchenko:
Milan 03 - 04: 24goals
Milan 04 - 05: 17goals
Milan 05 - 06: 17goals

Kaka:
Milan 03 - 04: 10goals

Milan 06 - 07: 8goals
Milan 07 - 08: 15goals

Gilardino took penalty at Parma while he never did at Milan in his first season. If you think about that, you figure that he'll score more than 20goals easily in his first season.

And people crying that Gilardino is not good enough in terms of scoring.

Honestly, the stats seem to suggest otherwise. This shows three things:

1) People who claim that he has three years to prove himself but did not is b***s*** because he did just equally in the first year. Shevchenko took most of the penalty and thus scored the same number of goals as Gilardino. If we are to criticize anyone that season, it has to be Shevchenko.

2) Gilardino just became worse all of a sudden for the past two years. You figure out why.

3) OR: Gilardino simply is NOT good enough, all of a sudden.

You figure the reasons out yourself. My conclusion is that he no longer fits with Milan's system. Ever since MIlan sold Shevchenko, have we really found a good replacement for him? Pato? Too young and not enough experience. R99? Injured and injured... Oliveria? Com'on....

We have this debate for almost three years. Wait, in fact no one criticizes him in the first year; only when Milan played horribly for the past two seasons that people begin to pick on him. Whatever, we have already sold him so there is no point in looking back.

I would just HATE it if Gilardino started scoring like 20goals per season again. That is a total slap in Milan's management face AND probably Ancelotti's face. I honestly pray that it won't happen (i.e., I hope Gila flop at Fio too).

If that indeed happen in the future, I will be the first to vote to show Ancelotti the door.

IN FACT, that may have already happened once (Borriello), or twice (Gourcuff), or even thrice in the future (Gilardino).

I pray not. I pray not....

Exactly what I think, I would add that we made a big mistake ...

And to explain why people started to whistle him and criticize him: it's easy, people always have to choose targets when something goes wrong ... Milan plays poorly, it's Gilardino's fault !! They never noticed that we didn't play better when Gila was off ...

I would just HATE it if Gilardino started scoring like 20goals per season again. That is a total slap in Milan's management face AND probably Ancelotti's face. I honestly pray that it won't happen (i.e., I hope Gila flop at Fio too).

Ok good point. What I'm trying to convey is that we have to be careful about claiming someone to be great only after he had succeeded in another club after the transfer. That way is truly just a hindsight bias that offers very little.

I have already explained somewhere else why it's factually flawed to say that Torres would have done well in Serie A (simply because you can't compare players when they play in different leagues because different leagues have different styles. Example include Crespo, Sheva, Oliveria etc.)

Perhaps like Dru said Torres is going to succeed everywhere in the world. In any case, it's more important to look ahead than to look back.

Cheers - J

Very good point here. But we have to take this into consideration as well. Every time you sign a player from anywhere, there is a certain risk associated with that. Players from a different country may not fit in well with the new style of play of the country, may have language problems and problems living in a new country (Shevchenko, Crespo, Mutu); Players from smaller clubs may not be able to handle the pressure playing for a huge club (Gilardino); a player moving from one major club to another in the same country may have trouble accepting his new roles or get along with his teammates. The key to make good signing and investments is try to minimize the risk you take on. But as we all know, risk cannot be eliminated altogether. The question mark surrounding his ability to adopt shouldn't be the reason we reject the chance at signing this guy.

I understand what you mean by looking forward, but we also have to learn from our past mistakes. After all, that's why we all take history classes when we were in schools. The mistake we made on Torres was that we probably didn't do a very good job scouting, among other things. And that wouldn't exactly be the first time that's happened to us. If we continue to make false evaluations on players, we will just make one mistake after another.

These are good conversations; OK, so what's next?

Striker: We have to buy a top-quality striker. We have to. Pato is great, there is no doubt about it. I hope that he'll become the next shevchenko, if he is not one already. But he needs to be more tactically savvy; right now he is still not tactically apt; We already see it in the game we played against Inter Milan for the last 15minutes. Borriello... I mean... honestly?

We need one top-quality striker. NOW.

***

Just like Kris said in another thread, we need a DC who is world-class, NOW. I share with Kris's idea, becuase with Nesta + Kaladze + Kalac/Dida, it doesn't sound safe. Kaladze has on and off, and Nesta is more injury-prone than before; he also made mistakes that he would never have made in the past.

How to build a winning team? Start with the defense first. We need at least 2 more defenders who can fill Nesta or Maldini. Zambrotta reinforces the side, but we have issues with DC, as well.

**** Midfield: FLamini is an excellent signing, that's all I can say now. But who's next? I really prefer an AMC who can sub Kaka once for a while and rotate. Otherwise Kaka is just going to burn out physically and emotionally at the end. We need one AMC who can also sub his (and Seedorf?) role, soon.

Here we need at least three players. Three more players and I will feel better...

Oh well... how about GK? *sigh*....

Here is something else we should think about when we think about last year. We had no striker to score for us at all! Our best strikers were Ronaldo and Pippo, both of these guys are good for at most 1/3 of a season. Like I said in one of my previous posts, when you have nothing, anything is better than that. Torres had risks associated with him, especially when his price is that high, but we needed a big name striker badly and he was probably the only one available at the moment. If you can't have lobster for dinner, would you rather buy yourself a steak or eat nothing? My money is on the steak, LOL!

In the case of Gilardino, I had the same feeling that he was going to be Shevchenko's partner when he arrived. That, however, all changed the summer after. We sold Shevchenko for a boat load of cash and then refused to spend it on a suitable replacement. Gilardino was being counted on as Shevchenko's actual replacement as the leading man of our attack. He had a good season and our management believed that he was the next great Milan striker and finally agreed to sell Shevchenko to Chelsea. Oliveira, to a certain degree was just another guy they brought in to give us more options and variety up front with his speed.

One hit wonder is the word here. Besides, Borriello was the center for the entire Genoa offense while Torres had to share the wealth with guys like Aguero when he was in Spain. I agree. If I remember right, during the start of the season, it took around half a dozen matches till any of our strikers scored a goal. All of the goals came from Kaka, Seedorf and Ambro. Even Gatusso scored once. I don't exactly remember the details but that was the tale.

After the Milan derby in December, we managed to score the same number of points as Inter. All of this happened in spite of the ridiculously busy schedule in January and February. We have reinforced our squad a bit already. Pato is getting better everyday. I expect Milan to win the Scudetto.

Goal.com article
Maggio from Samp (http://www.goal.com/en-US/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=718414)

Milan Fans Hope Maggio Gets Number 5 Shirt
Fans of AC Milan are hoping the club's possible new purchase Christian Maggio gets the number 5 shirt in order to remind Inter fans of May 5th 2002, the day they infamously lost the Scudetto on the final matchday.

At the moment you can't really say the Milan fans have much to brag about to their cross-town rivals Inter. Their European record may still be light years better than Inter's, but in the league the Nerazzurri have distanced the Rossoneri by more than 20 points for two consecutive seasons.

But now they seem to have a chance to play a nasty 'joke' on their rivals. Milan seem set to buy winger Christian Maggio from Sampdoria, and now the fans want to make sure he wears the number 5 shirt. They are allegedly even willing to sign petitions to make it happen.

Why, do you ask? Well, Maggio means May in Italian, and 5 May 2002 is a very famous date for followers of Italian football. Inter suffered one of their most dramatic defeats ever as they lost 4-2 to Lazio on the last matchday of the season and effectively handed the title to their bitter rivals Juventus. Had they won, Inter would have ended a thirteen year wait for their 14th Scudetto, which eventually came in 2006 after the Calciopoli scandal.

After Zambrotta and Flamini now we need to go with samne tempo and sign Ronaldinho, forward and GK which are our priorities. Then we will focus on one mroe fullback and CB. Boriello, Maggio, MArzoratti...I dont count those.

Bravo for Flamini and Zambrotta, those are the real players for Milan!!

Oh well... how about GK? *sigh*....

like Galiani said we have Kalac, Dida, Fiori and would like to bring back Abiatti from his adventure. so i dont think we will have another new one as long as the composition still the same :stress: o well.. lets just hope that Kalac improves more and Dida back to 2002-2003 season for his performance. we might not signing any GK but i think might be interesting to see Kalac, Dida, Abiatti together fighting for the 1st gloves. my vote goes to Dida. we might say anything about his lame performances in the last season but Dida has those quality for a champ inside him (close your eyes for Celtic saga :D after all Dida is still a human).

Gattuso said that he hopes Berlusconi will buy a big player and that he expects from our president to spend as much as Moratti... Rino is a king! :)

Also it seems Aquilani has some kind of money demands from Roma and Juve is trying to buy him now with Del Piero and Chiellini saying he will be "one of the best midfielders in the world", which I agree on. If Roma is to sell this diamond we cannot let him slip away...

Maggio n.5 would be just priceless. Plus he is a good player. But as with Gila/Borriello, he might not thrive with big teams.
With Cafu and Favalli out (or so i recall) we need 2 more sidebacks... one is Zambrotta (AWESOME SIGNING) and the other could be Maggio...

From our dear Galliani (source www.goal.com):

Many have called for mass changes at Milanello during the summer, with critics claiming much of the team has passed its use-by date and needs a boost a of fresh, hungry talent.

The Diavolo have already secured the signing of Mathieu Flamini from Arsenal, and Galliani warned that any squad members found wanting next season would be dealt with ruthlessly.

“As a warning to anyone who hasn’t been on form for the last two years, this can’t happen this time around – we have to try and win the title,” he said.

“Reinforcements? Don’t worry, Milan will have a very competitive squad.”

Is that indicative :D?

zambo is old, but again, considering how our transfer market goes i'd take him, but we have to get another great player playing with us, until now we sold players with more amount that we bought, we sold gila with 15 and had zambro with 8, that leaves 7, i say add another 13 and buy us good player, i still think we need to replace seedorf, in addition of another good stiker, ronaldinho and drogba would be ideal, i believe if we sent ancelotti to chelsea we can have drogba, and ronaldinho would not exceed 20 - 25 million, while we can get lippi to be our legendary coach.

wishfull thinking, i know, but we will have a great team for seasons to come.

*sigh*....

I absolutely agree with your views, we need to start getting quality with quantity, our team is too small. With Maldini, Cafu, Serginho gone and Simic likely to leave(same thing every season :coffee: ). I will be very surprised if Milan doesn't get more defenders.

With Gourcuff going on loan and Emerson/Brocchi looking out of place, getting 1-2 more midfielders certainly doesn't hurt.

We need 1 good striker + 1 good keeper to complete the team.

Another 4-5 players are needed on top of the 2 we have gotten.

One hit wonder is the word here. Besides, Borriello was the center for the entire Genoa offense while Torres had to share the wealth with guys like Aguero when he was in Spain. Torres' biggest selling point to me was that he was somewhat consistent while Borriello could very well be a one and done type of player who will never make it big again.

As long as we have learned our lessons, we can turn the pages. If we don't do that, we are in for more trouble. So the question here is, have we learned our lessons?

Torres only played with aguero for 1 season and aguero is so inconsistent that season and only scored like 7 goals or less. What sharing are you talking? Can you even name Torres's strike partners before that? I bet you can't without doing a search on the net.

Your points are not valid and poor arguments for the 35M euros Torres.

I don't like Borriello because of his drug case. But he did played pretty well in the pre-season games in 2006 if you guys can remember. So i am not that surprised he did well in Genoa where he get to play every game and gain a lot of confidence along the way.

Good questions Jeff...and I would nominate Zapata for the central defense, Moutinho/Deco/Nasri for the Kaka/Seedorf sub (in the event we don't get R10...as we surely won't get both an AM and R10), and Gomez/Benzema.

Note those are players I wish we would aquire, not who I think we will sign. :D

Tomorro though, be warned, I could have a very different selection! :D

Silly season....gotta love it!

I like Zapata and Benzema/Gomez too. :3band:

WHY, why, is Gomes considered to be as good as Benzema, Drogba, Adebayor, Eto'o is faaar beyond me...he is not that class of a striker.

So now playing uefa CAN influence our mercato...hahaha! Bravo Galliani.

Jeff, Milan supporters dont want Abbiatti becouse of "chi non salta rossonero" part, as I wrote pages back. And beoucse of the fact they simply want new players in Milan. Not Boriello, Sheva, Abbiatti, Marzoratti...

Firstly, Gomez isn't hyped anywhere near the names you mentioned, all of which are now household names, and would probably cost a lot more. However, to put things into perspective, his goal to games ratio this season is better Toni, Drogba, Benzema, Adebayor, Eto'o and Torres.

Technically, Gomez is very good and he can assist for teammates on frequent occasions. He's not slow, especially considering his size and his movement is excellent, capable of moving in all areas of the final third. He's physically very powerful and a stronger header of the ball.

Last season and this he's been voted German player of the season. His stats this season speak for themselves:

Bundesliga: 19 goals in 25 games
Domestic Cup: 3 goals in 6 games
Champions League: 3 goals in 4 games
Germany (to date): 6 goals in 9 games

Surely you cannot disagree the stats are impressive. Here's a compilation of him...

Jesus...you udge him by ONE game you guys saw for Germany?? I sw gomes 15 times this season and he is NOt as good as Drogba, toni, Adebayor, Eto'0, and especially not as promising and good as Benzema is.

His statistics are excellent this season, but statistics in football mean nothing. Its not NBA or NFL. He is good, but not good enough for Milan. We need player like Benzema, fit Ronaldinho or Drgba.

Not even this Eto'o idea is ok becouse that is stewp away from the plan Carlo was always talking about - having a powerfull CF like Toni. Noe Galliani says Carlo wants Eto'o...wht? People in the club need to get into harmony with who they want.,

My fiorst pick is Drogba, considering the fact that Benzema will never arrive in Milan and future's best forward will play for Real or Barca or Chelski most likely. Have you seen France game? Geo Tav did im sure...

Mrki....I have been watching him play for Stuttgart on GOL TV all season, and I watched him play in the international (for the first time...to see how he would perform at that level, and I was impressed with what I saw).

The possibilities of him coming to Milan? Well Jeff, I think Galliani mentioned him for the first time this week....so there is a possibility...we have had "relative" success with a German in the attack before with Bierhoff...so I wouldn't rule it out.

What increases the odds of his arrival, IMO is his price-tag, which will b below Drogba et al...unless of course he has a blinder of a Euro, and gets the golden boot or something :D

The other side of the coin is that he isn't a "big name" so his purchase would need to cooincide with an R10 or something to keep the fans happy...."Win-win" situation it sounds like to me though!

Odds: 5:1 he joins Milan

Went on a trip for the weekend and Zambro is Red and Black, awesome stuff.
What amaze me is that people still say age matters in football, I mean, can u find anyone that is better than Zambro?? Pls don't say Vargas or D. Alves as I think both of them are not as good as Zambro.

Why is everything putting down Borriello? I really don't get it, I mean, if he has a good Euro, would you guys till think he is over-rated? I really don't think it is easy to score 19 goals in Series A. Yes, he played at Genoa but wouldn't it makes the other team more easier to defend, since all they need to do is stay close to Borriello as there is no others that can score!!!!

As for Gomez, can u consider him a BIG NAME? He is talented from the games I seen him play but he is far from a BIG NAME player when u compare him to R10, C7, Kaka, Drogba, Eto, Toni.... My point is that most if not all of you want Milan to sign big name but at the same time, you also want the BIG NAME striker to be GOMEZ instead of Drogba or Eto.

Anyhow, anyone can provide more details info on SAMMARCO and MAGGIO, thanks!!!!

Gomez is definitely big name, but Kaka wasn't too when he came. Pato was, but it's more like hyped one rather than really already making an established reputation in the field.

In sports like NBA, NFL and so on people are obsessed about statistics. Rebounds, shots, tackles and I dont know what else. Once, just once, I saw a game of American national SOCCER league, to see Beckham play for his new club. And there was statistic of the number of every players "turnovers"??!! When I saw that there are turnovers in soccer I decided to switch the channel... :)

Seriousely, the number of passes, the possesion of the ball, miles you ran, its all interesting to see but its not THE thing. The thing is to see the wayplayer influences the game and palyers around him, to FEEL it, not to measure it anyhow in any way! To have sance of a talent, smart movement, usefull running and passing and so on... Croatian striker Olić runs more than any striker in europe but he is too dumb for real football and is a useless player in big matches, aldough he ahs good statistivcs for HSV. Knowing about some players value is a matter of instinct, not maths.

Gomes: he is a very good player, but he is not a player Milan needs. Milan needs a player that can play 1 on 2, like Sheva did, like Pato will be able to do, like KAka' can. Like Drogba, Torres, Toni can... Gomnes is a player that could possible score a lot of goals eventually, with a good team around him ( do not forget that Bundesliga is 3 times worse then serie a ). But Gomes is not a player that will raise a level of Milan's attack once he staps in and that can take the pressure on his shoulders and win big games momentally by his own brilliant moves. And that is the player we need. Maybe Gomes will someday become that kind of a player and then we should buy him, but now Milan needs INSTAND powerfull striker that can win games by himself.

People in here said Torres is not good enough...Galliani decided that Toni aasnt good enough and now people want Gomes? No, Milan needs a better player.

And Tony29 reminded me of something interesting. Galliani today said that Mialn was close to sign Zambrotta in 1998 but we were also in contact with Serginho and decided to go for him and we let Juve buy Zambrotta.

At that time Zambrotta played as a right winger for Bari and Moggi payed 16mln for a young player which Milan didnt feel like paying. Samt thing happened with Del Piero going to Juve - wrong judgement by Galliani.

Serginho was a left winger and Galliani is simply lying once again, he should just shut up and not make a fool out of himself yet again. Moggi saw it better and did better. 16 mln were payed off for Juve.

Tony29.
01-06-2008, 12:52
Yes, it's really strange. Serginho was a left back, fullback who played on the left side only.
Zambrotta was a right midfielder who wasn't part of the back 4 (the defense) but played as a midfielder, only on the right side. The first time Zambrotta played as a right back was in 2002 when Juve bought Camoranesi and Lippi tried to find space for both of them, and the very first time Zambrotta played as a left back was in 2005 when Capello was trying to find space for both Zambrotta and Zebina.

Really strange thing to say by Galliani. I really don't know why would the transfer of Serginho exclude the transfer of Zambrotta.
It's probably an excuse. Juve did overpay for Zambrotta back then and Milan didn't want to pay that money (even though it turned out that it was a nice piece of business by Moggi) so now Galliani is trying to find an excuse why didn't Milan buy Zambrotta in 1998.

Gosh, I really wish there are some scientific study that shows that age is not a correlate with soccer performance...

That would be nice.

If you are good enough you are old or young enough to play, this goes for both extremely young and old players. The problem with age is that you lose your physical ability, some players sooner than others. With our lack of quality depth in our squad this was highlighted all too easily when our players tired quickly for playing too many games. That and a lack of hunger for winning....

Flam and Zam are two quality signings so far by the bald one, now if he could get us Frey, Zapata, Vargas (he's not gone yet right?) and a quality striker he's easily done better than he's done in the past 5 years. Alas though I'm disappointed by his comments about not wanting to spend much due to not being in CL...

Maybe Milan will try to sign Robinho if they decide Barca will not lower the price for ronaldinho, its possible. But I REALLy hope that Roinaldinho will end up in Milan, we need to do everything we can to make that happen. You cant forget how to play football and its obvious Dinho only needs two months of preparations and he'll be playing well again. And when he plays well you can defend all you want, it wont help :)

Also my fear is that we will not sign another GK and that would be simply a huge mistake.

Sure they have more money(or intention) to spend, but when the subject is brazilian players, I have no doubt about this, vivardo. One thing about Milan that we sometimes overlook, is the way we handle our internal situations and our relationship with players.

Robinho had his best season at R. Madrid this year, until the abdominal injure. He was playing at a golden Ball (candidate)level until that, and after he fail to recover fast, and had a drop of form, sundely all he did until the injure was forgotten. And what R. Madrid managment did to protect the player, nothing!! Remember when Kaká had his worst form as a Milan player in his second season? The press was all over him, and the first thing our managment(and veteran players) did was to go to the press and support our(at that time) future star. Also speaking of future contract extension...

Using spanish clubs as example, it is well know the Madrid(Barça also) managment(and some veteran players) intentionally filter histories of the locker room(some real, some false) and just put in the press creating a Real havoc. Curious is that in all dirty histories the players doing wrong are always the foreingers. You just don´t see this in our club...our veterans core consist of the like´s of Maldini, Nesta, Ambrosini, Cafu, Gatuso...real HIGH character persons, and our managment(liking our transfer politics or not) always act as gentlemen and real professionals. This "Milan is a Family" and "locker room code" thing isn´t B.S. and is well know here in Brazil. It´s not coincidence Ronaldinho said it is Milan or nothing, is Milan or he stays in Barcelona.

Look, we just finished 5º in Serie A, out of the CL and our club aren´t in a crise...unbelievble!!! Pato had proposals of R. Madrid and Chelsea, but chose us...and most of this can be explained by the way we treat Ronaldo(Pato´s idol) and our foreigners players. I remember several quotes of Ronaldo here in Brazil saying to Pato to come to our club, that here he would have a great and stabilized environment to grow as a player and person unlike other places...and this my MM friends, the way our Milan are seen in Brazil and around the world, makes me so proud as when we win the titles.

Are there any news in Brasil about Ronaldinho and Milan? And how did Pato do against Canada?

*sigh*....
I´m quoting all your post today, moderator :)
Great post!!
99% of the people worries here in MM are about our striker situation, but imo DEFENCE are the wrost problem we have right now. You summarized perfectly our situation...glad with Zambro purchase, now we need a W. Class Cb and a squad(but good) one...

We conceded more goals than the normal against average Serie A teams last season, and I expect more if nothing will be made...

Yes, Jeff you are right. And I think our problems could be solved by Zapata and ronaldinho, who will fill up the team perfectly. We also need tohave in mind that Oddo and MArek are now over 30 and are injury prone and that SeedorfCANNOT play more then 20 games per season at high level. There fore one more fullback is needed also.

It sounds too much but we really do need another 4 or 5 good players.

Thanks, mrki :5ok:
Some reliable people of the press in Brazil said that history about " Milan or nothing", so I believ it´s true...sure, since Laporta just shows the door for Ronaldinho, he can goes to another club. But all I heard is Milan is the place R10 wants to go if he can´t stay in Barcelona.

The problem is the price Barça are asking...since Ronaldinho is really with "some problems" with the night and parties(sad, but it´s true), I understand we don´t want to pay so much for him. The talent is there, no doubt, but i´m starting to doubt about Ronaldinho´s will and hungry to reach his level again...

Regarding Pato, didn´t have much time since Dunga put him more to the end of game, the team also was changed a lot.

Those are possible explanations rather than actual ones. Why didn't Torres score over 30 times a season? You will have to ask him that question to get the whole story on that. The point is that, Torres was pretty consistent with his performances during his time in Spain. Unlike a lot of players who looked great at a young age and end up losing momentum as their career drags on. Besides, it's like what I said before, Torres doesn't have to be the perfect investment to be considered by Milan, all he has to do is be better than the investment we made. He was better than Oliveira and possibly Pato, therefore he deserved recognition and consideration for the purchase.

Fair enough; I still think that's a very american phenomenon; I don't see it a lot in EUropean football; you are righ that Americans are fanatic about statistics; they are kind of 'objectivity' which I think they are missing something.

Perhaps, just perhaps, they are simply unwilling to deal with uncertainty, the 'feel' that you mentioned.

Warro, any response to that? I really do'nt know Gomes well, but I feel that what mrki said is exactly the opposite of what you just said... do you have stats over how he played for the past 2 or 3 years?

Serginho was a left winger and Galliani is simply lying once again, he should just shut up and not make a fool out of himself yet again. Moggi saw it better and did better. 16 mln were payed off for Juve.

Ya, but surely he can't say something like "we should have signed Zambrotta n years ago and we regretted signing Serginho", right?

Besides, I still remember how Serginho has torn Bayern Munich apart (for the CL campaign we won in 02/03) as well as goals against Inter Milan.

It's difficult to judge whether Serginho did better or not; what is sure, though, is that Serginho was impt to MIlan because of his speed and contribguted signifncatly to our CL campagin in 02/03. No longer, but I'm still grateful for that.

It's important to take stocks from both perspective...

What Mrki is saying is that Milan should have signed both of them. He's not saying that Milan should have bought Zambrotta, not Serginho.
They played in completely different positions and one shouldn't exclude the other.

The way Galliani said it, it seems that he forgot that back in 1998 Zambrotta wasn't a left winger. Actually, Zambro never ever played as a left winger. In 1998 Zambrotta was a MR.
Galliani said it like they were covering the same position and Milan had to make a choice which one of the two to buy.

Galliani said it like they were covering the same position and Milan had to make a choice which one of the two to buy.

This is what Galliani said according to channel4 :

“In 1998 we were very close to signing Zambrotta and again in 2006. In ’98 it was practically a done deal.

“We had a big sum of money ready and we came to an agreement with Bari and Gianluca’s father.

“Then Bari president Vincenzo Mataresse told me that Juve had offered a certain amount that we had to match.

“But we were already in talks with Serginho and so we left him to go to the Bianconeri.

So, Milan were dealing with Zambro AND Serginho and Milan almost got Zambro but Juve came with certain amount of money that Milan HAD TO match. What I get from it, that Milan couldnt (or didn't want to) match the money that Juve offered to Bari.

We should see that case in 1998 : What kind of players Milan actually wanted? (An) attacking midfielder(s) or certain position of winger(s) (left or/and right)?

It makes sense to me that Galliani talked about Serginho as both of them are attacking midfielders. It seems that Milan first option was Zambro and second one was Serginho. Or it could be also that Milan wanted to take both Zambro and Serginho if Juve didnt come with amount of money that Milan had to match.

So, it's actually not completely different position as both of them are attacking midfielders. If Milan wanted to buy Zambro but opted to buy DC, then it would be strange. But the players are in same position : attacking midifielder.

I dont know why this case caught attention from some people. If I am not mistaken, Juve did offer huge money to Bari to get Zambro.

Hmm, now that we have bought back Boriello, do we really need need a target man? I wonder whether this means the deal is in the bag for R10, because with Boriello/Inzaghi/ and potentially Pato able to play as the loan forward, we would need another AM to rotate with Kaka/Seedorf, rather than another "big" forward...

And that is the player we need. Maybe Gomes will someday become that kind of a player and then we should buy him, but now Milan needs INSTAND powerfull striker that can win games by himself. IMO Milan need a new and inproved version of Pippo...an "in-box" striker...and if he has touch and thechnical ability, all the better, but his primary role (with the assumption that Pato is going to start) is to be on the receiving end of balls played into the box.

Gomez fits this bill...(even if mrki doesn't agree :D )as does Drogba, but I don't want Drogba at Milan (after his ridiculous performance in the UCL final)so maybe I won't be objective....I also think that Drogba's "support play" (as I have mentioned before, is woefull), and he is too old etc.

I have no real preference for who comes at the end of the day (as long as its not Drogba :D ), be it Gomez, Adebayor, or Benzema, wouldn't want the traitor back either, but as long as who we buy delivers the goals, I am cool.

No stats Jeff....sorry!

The issue of the defensive cover is one that I am less concerned with to be honest...because this term, despite the injuries, the defense was not our problem. Scoring goals was...now that is not to say that I don't think we need defensive cover, I just can see mgmt not feeling that as pressing as reinforcements in the attcking dept....now that raises the question as to Boriello's true situation...will we just buy him to resell him? Or is he part of the picture? That is what also needs to b considered in the scheme of things.

In the end, let's get the players we need for our problem areas..AM, CD, LB(?), GK and ST.

Glad to see more people are worried about our defense situation also :5ok: ...

it's obvious that we need new CB. we have Zambrotta, Bonera and Oddo who fills the RB role. and Zambrotta, Jankulovski and Favalli to plays LB role. and i think those names are quite impressive. but if we talk about CB role that would be worrying me a lot. we have Nesta (the only one who doesn't make me get some heartattack), Kaladze (well.. prepare for more conceded goals :rollani: ), Maldini (get real.. we cant hope him to playing in every single minute next season), Simic (this person probably leaves in this summer). so we have to buy another one to play together with Nesta/Kaladze in centre defense. i know that Bonera sometimes plays at CB role too but i think he's naturally in RB role. he much better in that position. so Zapata would be a nice addition to duet with Nesta or Kaladze in CB role. and i dont think we should worry about midfielder again. Flamini is already get us more flexibility to make some compositions in the middle. talking about striker we might need 2 new strikers considering Gila is left now and Ronaldo neverending injury. my dream will overrated as it would be Benzema or Berbatov :rollani: but in more realistic to Milan is Ronaldinho who never gets tired being linked to us day after day or season after season :rollani: and i think we have Boriello back now and also prepare for the lost boy who might be coming home :) so i bet Milan would not spend money for others strikers, GK shouldnt be add to much worries to us. we have Kalac who improves day after day, we have Dida who declared will stay (remember he still world class GK), and i think we will have Abbiati back. so the most urgent one is CB. but i wouldnt mind if we also buy 1 GK and 1 striker too after buy 1 CB first.

Fiori is finally gone, praise the Lord above.

His best performances are in CB position in the 2006/07. I suggest you watch some of the matches that season to see how good he really is. Being listed as the best 11 in serie A every week, as 1 of the 2 CB chosen every week. You would have thought he is the next coming of Nesta. He should really play in the centre and be a back up for the RB position.

i didnt say he was awful playing at CB role. but he was moved to CB role when Oddo was coming from Lazio. well Oddo was naturally a RB in Lazio. and if Nesta be able to play the one who often duet with him is Kaladze not Bonera. in most matches Bonera would play as CB when Nesta absent. that's why i think he likes more to play in RB or probably that was Ancelotti desicion.

Seeee...not even the statistics go Gomes way :) :)

Seriousely, of course my first favorite is BENZEMA who would make THE BEST attacking trident for the next 6-7 years with Pato and KAka', it would be simply unstoppable. But I dont talk about him as Milan will never pay 40 mln for a player these days.

What annoys me is that Milan is still not willing to PAy for players, and this is 4th or 5th mercato we do this. We sold Sheva (45mln), Gila (14mln), Oliveira(12mln)...we can sell Brocchi, Simic, Emerson... We payed big money for gilardino, Oliveira ( absoulte disasted transfer to replace Sheva, completely overpaied! ) and Pato ( worth it!). The rest was Oddo, Marek, Emerons and so on...small money players.

The fact is that Milan is no longer ready to giuve 30-50 mln a year for mercato, + money from sold players.

For example: This year we sold Gila and Oliveira, which brought us 26 mln. We bought Zambrotta for 8 and we can surely pay for a 10mln GK and a player like Zapata( mybe we can add some players in there, or sell some).

Now Milan SHOULD be able to invest big money after a bad season to buy 2 great palyers that ARE expencive. Players like ronaldinho and Benzema. But the fact is that Berlusconi has stoped injecting money and that mercato stoped.

Repubblica - Moratti da record: spenderà 200 milioni
02.06.2008 09.07 di Gianluigi Longari
Questa sera Mourinho arriva a Milano. Il presidente dell'Inter, Moratti spenderà più di 200 milioni di euro:

54 mln lordi al tecnico portoghese (9 netti per tre anni);
60 mln lordi per liquidare Mancini (6 netti per quattro anni) e il suo staff (12);
55 mln al Barcellona per Eto'o (40) e Deco (15);
57 mln al Chelsea per Essien (30), Lampard (9) e Carvalho (18);
40 mln al Porto per Quaresma.

L'ironia di Berlusconi: ora a Palazzo Chigi mi chiederanno l'aumento.
------------------------------------------------------------------

is this possible??
It's possible, he's got the money and he's spending. Yesterday he offered Zlatan 12m eur net a year (24m total a year).
Only the 60m for Mancini and his staff are with a questionmark because as far as i know, Moratti will have to pay Mancini only if Mancini isn't hired by another club. When someone hires Mancini then Inter do not have to pay anything anymore.
So unless Mancini stays without a job for the next 4 years, Moratti will not have to pay so much money.

Are you sure about that ?
Because in many countries, mainly in European countries, when a firm (here Inter) break a contract without agreement, this firm has to give the money the fired employee (Mancini here) would have had if he had stayed ...

Berlu has more money than moratti. Why doesn't he spend, and stop being a cheapo. We need the players to compete, to challenge, to make money. You don't get the players, you don't compete, you don't win, you lose money. Grow some balls, and start rebuilding Milan, or just leave.

From what I understand with last reports: Milan will try to buy one "big/WC" player even if we have to pay a lot ?

Pure media talking, I can't understand why Chelsea would let 3 of their players going to one single club (club coached by Mourinho furthermore) ?? For Chelsea players, it could also depend on who will be the next coach: some speak about Scolari, so why Carvalho for example would leave if Scolari was going to come ??
Then Inter won't be alone to want some of these players. Of course, if Inter was alone, I'm pretty sure that Moratti would spend all that money lol, but if MU, Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona, Madrid, Juventus, Roma, us, ummmh what else lol, try to get these players too, I'm not sure they would all go to Inter !!

Another thing, players will be sold by Inter but who ?

And the last thing to say ... I will add it when I'll remember lol.

and ffs i don't care anymore if he buys Ronaldinhio. as long as he buys
-2 defenders (zambrotta)
-2midfielders (flamini)
-1GK
-2 strikers

we need this to compete. and not some players we sign for free like the usual.

But the fact is that Berlusconi has stoped injecting money and that mercato stoped. ...And you know this how? Galliani called u on ur cell phone with the news? :D

And re Gomez stats: not bad IMO, about on par with Torres...so ur point? He has almost a goal every other game, a ratio that is up there with any of the forwards we are considering...

Seems Galliani has kicked the R10 negotiations into a higher gear with his "I never said we would buy Ronaldinho" (goal.com) comment...sounds so much like he really means: "Look Barca, enuf with the overpricing already, don't force us to use Article 17" ;)

I also think it would be impossible for Mourinho/Inter to get that wish list...Chelski won't sell their best players...and certainly not to a potential challenger in the UCL, which is where smart money will be on for Chelski's focus next year.

Everybody was complaining that we aren't buying players and it was only May.
Its now the 2nd of June and we have already signed Flamini and Zambrotta and that still isn't good enough!

The transfer season hasn't even begun properly but people are already saying its over!

Maybe some people just like to complain all the time?

Milan could sign 20 super stars and people would still complain about something.

it is not just about spending money, it is about making wise investments and making negotiations. If we can negotiate R10s price down to 20mil why pay 50 mil. we will have 30 mil to invest somewhere else.
If after constant negotiatons, and the price doesnt drop, then they make a desicion, is the player worth this much money, and is there someone else better or equal in talent or not far off for less.

because when we were linked with berbatov, we could have spent the 40 mil for him, but the we would say it was a complete waste of money.

Just reread ur post Tony75: "By the time we have R10 it'll be August 31st, and we'll hjave signed 5 players when we need at least 12."

Gonna leave the 12 player argument for now...but why do u think that we won't be in simultaneous negotiations? U seem to think (it might be that u kno waaay more than me in these things, and if so I stand corrected) that we can only have discussions with one cluban over one player at a time.

I kno the Euros will impact discussions somewhat (ie slow them down) but it will not prevent agents and clubs working to transfer players....and as nations get knocked out...those players minds will all be on where they are going to work next season.

Personally if we have signed 5 players by Aug 31, then we should be in great shape!! Especially if of the three we get a GK' ST, and a CB or AM. It would mean a good summer for us IMO.

54 mln gross technical Portuguese (9 net for three years);
60 million gross for outstanding Mancini (6 net for four years) and his staff (12);
55 million at Barcelona for Eto'o (40) and Deco (15);
57 million at Chelsea for Essien (30), Lampard (9) and Carvalho (18);
40 million at Porto for Quaresma.

how is lampar only going for 9, i know he is over rated, but that doesnt change the fact that he is a good player, and i doubt he will go for 9.

We won't be in simultaneous dealings because Milan ponders too much, and tries to haggle too much.

Th reason we need 12 players is to replace deadwood, and keep the squad with same numbers. I didn't say 12 starters so 4 starters, 4 subs, & 4 youth players return from loan.

Fiori, Simic, Ba, Dida, Kalac, Emerson, Brocchi, Gourcuff, Gilardino, Ronaldo, Maldini, Cafu, Serginho, Favalli, Oddo are all either gone or could leave this season.

That's 15 players. We've replaced Serginho with Zambro, Gourcuff with Flamini, and Gilardino with Borreillo. I'd take back Abate & Antonini, & promote Kingsley to cover Simic, Ba & Ronaldo, but we still need 3 keepers, another wb, cd, pirlo sub, am, and forward.

Put it up to 14 players that we need then. :dconf:

But this doesn't seem to counteract the argument that Milan can still engage in multiple transfer dialogs?

Th reason we need 12 players is to replace deadwood, and keep the squad with same numbers. I didn't say 12 starters so 4 starters, 4 subs, & 4 youth players return from loan.

Fiori, Simic, Ba, Dida, Kalac, Emerson, Brocchi, Gourcuff, Gilardino, Ronaldo, Maldini, Cafu, Serginho, Favalli, Oddo are all either gone or could leave this season.

IN terms of GK:
According to your list, the whole GK system will be gone. I don't necessarily disagree, but I don't think Milan (or any team) will have such a major overhaul. In fact, Kalac will still be a good sub for next year. Fiori is gone, bu Abbiati is set to coming back. This leaves us one GK to buy.

What will our GK list look like next year?

Dida, Abbiati, Kalac
If Abbiati says no, Milan has to hunt for another. Potential list include:

Boruc (from Celtic), Amelia (from Livorno).

I already mentioned in another thread why the GK situation is tricky. But to be safe we need one GK.

In terms of Defenders:

Oddo is definitely staying, and probably so do Favalli who will even feature less. I agree with we need at least one defender, hopefully two with one DC and one SB.

Simic doesn't even feature anymore in the club, he is the last substitute.
Maldini is gone? You sure? How can you speak with such certainty?

What will our defense team look like next year?
Maldini, Nesta, Kaladze, Zambrotta, Bonera

Sub: Oddo(ok), Favalli(umm), Simic (argh....)

This is where things get really thin, and we need at least (AT LEAST) one world-class DC to join us, preferably with another SB.

In terms of Midfielders:

FLamini comes, while GOurcuff wants to go. Fine.
Emerson is not going to leave, trust me, and we have only been speculating if Brocchi is leaving. He probably will, but where? Regardless, I agree we need just one more midfielder, and with emerson back in shape I have high hope that our midfield will be very strong.

I"m just worried that it's not creative enough.

And btw, Ba doesn't even feature in anything. I don't think he is on the CL roster, at all, right? Our midfield for next year?

Ambro, Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf, Kaka, Flamini (these looks pretty strong, isn't it?)
Sub: Emerson (?), Brocchi (low hope), and ??? (key players).

My conclusion is we need one more midfield key player.

In terms of Attack:

Borreillo is back, but I have no hope of him (quote me here in the future and shows me wrong! :D).
Pato is our next star, and INzaghi will still be here.
R99? It's a bet.

That's why we need at least one more striker to replace Gilardino. OUr attack next year?

Borriello (4th), Pato (1st), Inzaghi/R99 (3rd), and ??? (2nd). That means we need one more world-class striker.

p.s.: The bold head say six but that's because he stupidly included Kaka.

****

If you haven't read this post thoroughly, that's ok. I think it's boring, too.

But my conclusion is we need 5 FIRST-TIME players (except GK position) who are willing to rotate.

I'm fine with Dida on goal if he is back to his best, or at least 80% best, then make a purchase of GK next year (since we are not in CL anyway).

In terms of midfield, best is to have someone like Flamini, but not sure if it's the most urgent.

D and S are the most urgent department. Thus, I see at least two more players coming.

Cheers - J

I said alot of players could leave for some players like Oddo & Maldini. Emerson, Favalli, Brocchi, Simic, Dida have either no place, or have their purpose in Milan. Our lack of quality in goal, wb, creative am sub, and upfront will see us falter into 4th or 5th again.

I think we can do just well with 3 more signings. One defender, we can just bring back Marzorati because if we buy Zapata he'll never play don't forget that we have Maldini, Nesta and Kaladze, Carlo we'll never play him before this 3(remember how much Bonera played this season not counting the games where he played as a right back)

I think the most important thing is to find replacement for Seedorf because he can't play whole season and we don't have anyone to replace him now that Gourcuff is gone.
Seedorf should be used in the important matches while we can play his sub when we play with the little teams(It can be clearly seen that he only plays good in important matches whereas he's not motivated enough when playing against those small teams which took our champions league place this season)

And the second most important thing is the striker of course, we need a killer in the box such as Drogba, Gomez etc. We lack this kind of player who scores 20+ goals every season like Sheva did, we struggle in attack ever since he left because we haven't found his ideal replacement yet

Just read that Grosso is available and Real pulled out of Vargas.
I really hope they sign Vargas, but I have a gut feeling Grosso will be playing in Milan next year. I really think Zapata and Dessena might be the way to go for Milan. Ofcourse, my ideal signings for Milan are Zapata, Dessena and Vargas.

That way their defense will be like this
RB: Zambrotta, Oddo, Bonera
CB: Nesta, Zapata, Kala, Maldini
LB: Janku, Vargas, Dessena, Favalli

With Kala or Vargas being able to fill in for Pirlo here and there.

Thats will be a dream and lets hope it happens.

"If I don't play then I will leave. It's as simple as that," Balotelli told Tuttosport

This is getting interesting. Balotelli told Inter that he wanted a 3.7m per year contract last week at his negotiations and he's only 17, and now he's saying he wants to start too. I have some shread of home for this Milanista, he deserves to be wearing our shirt. He is worth more than Ronaldinho and whoever, this guy is CLASS. With Pato and Balotelli (and Paloschi, but he's not a good bet like the other two), we can surely guarantee our future.

Other news:
- Milan, Juve, Fiorentina going after Vargas.
- Inter appoint Mourinho officially
- Flamini's gone to Euro 2008 to replace the injured Vieira.

and from Galliani's interview on the official site, he talks about the attacker we're gonna get:

“Right now we have four attackers: Inzaghi, Borriello, Pato and Paloschi, and two attacking midfielders, Kaka and Seedorf; it’s almost certain that we shall sign a striker with the characteristics of the first four, also to please Carlo Ancelotti, with whom we agree perfectly. He would like Eto’o, and we told him that we shall sign Eto’o if the amount of the operation will be compatible with our balances.”

Finally, Galliani spoke again about the identikit of the world class player that Milan are searching for: “It’s very probable that he’s more of a striker than an attacking midfielder. However, the important thing is that he’s world class on the pitch, not just in the name. Think about Rivaldo and Kaka: the first one arrived as a world class player, but after a year he wasn’t like that anymore; the second one arrived not as a world class player, but he became so on the pitch in the space of one year.”

Can someone explain to me the part in bold, I dont think I understand what he means. And the club have been talking about Eto'o publicly as he's there target for a while now, that's not how Milan do it. I'm 100% certain that he is being used as a smokescreen for now (but maybe later when we realize there arent better options we'll get him and claim we wanted him all along)

I think people woun't be satisfied with tinkering, they want to see immdieate concrete and firm steps in the right direction.

His stupidity in the transfer market last year lead us to fifth this year, and people are on pins and needles this transfer market, thinking that were going to see a repeat of the of the last two.

He's brought this critism on his and he'll live it down when he finally brings in some of the names that he's been feeding fans through the media for the past two years.

I think what he means is that, we're going to get Gomez from Stuggart not a world class star but has the potential to become one here in Milan.

Not someone who's a star now and may fade after a year.

But this guy talks so much, who knows. He should try doing this :pr78: and sign whoever it will be and then talk about it later.

Balotelli's contract with Inter expires on August 31st 2009. I don't know if that 1 year rule can be used so he can buy-out his contract. If he can then Milan, or anyone else, has a big chance to get him, if not then Milan can only dream about him (this summer) because there is no way Moratti will sell him to Milan.

Other news:
- Milan, Juve, Fiorentina going after Vargas.
Catania accepted Fiorentina's offer (12m eur, if i'm not wrong) but the wages Fiorentina offered are the problem. They offer Vargas little over 750k a year.
That's really funny.
Milan or Juve probably didn't even make an offer yet because if they did i'm sure Fiorentina would have been out of the picture already, since Milan and Juve can easily offer Vargas 3 times more than what Viola gives him.

Can someone explain to me the part in bold, I dont think I understand what he means.
Well, he obviously counts Kaka and Seedorf as attackers. But he makes a difference between an Inzaghi type of attacker (striker) and Kaka type of an attacker (attacking midfielder).
He says Milan won't sign a Kaka/Seedorf type of attacker (attacking midfielder).
Probably he wants to say that Milan won't go after Ronaldinho or other attacking midfielders but You'll try to get a striker (Shevchenko, Drogba, Eto'o etc)

...And you know this how?

Come on man, I dont understand the need you have to say such things.

1. Belusconi DID stop to inject money the way he used to do. What is not clear in here? Just count the money in ( sells, CL wins, sponsors, tickets..) and the money out ( Pato, Gila and Oliveira were the only expencive transfers in past 5 years ). im not saying Silvio has stoped working for Milan, just that money is not coming the way it used to.

2. gomes on pair with torres.....hahahahahaha!! That is what Im talking about: statiscics make people blind for football. How can you say they are on pair? Torres palyed in Primera and now is doing brilliantly in EPl and CL. Torres is 3 times better palyer then Gomes, it is so obvious with every touch Torres makes. SO MY POINT it that the fact Gomes scored like 40 goals in 90 games in Bundesliga means nothing and Torres is 3 times player of Gomes..

I saw on SKy now that there are 3 players on Inter's list: Eto'o, one of Deco/Lampard/Diarra and Carvalho. That is very possible and that would make Inter super strong. dont forget that Mancini was a lousy coach and now there is Mourinho.

Also Rino said that we need two young palyers to be competitive again. Rino talks much these days :)

Galliani commented on the fact we have "backed out from" Ronaldinho. But I dont understand how Carlo wants Eto'o coz he said numerous times that he needs player like Toni and Drogba?? And Eto'o in not that kind of player. Benzema is our best choice of course, but Silvio will never pay that money. But Benzema is worth 40mln, he is a brilliant player in rang of best of Henry, Shevchenko and so on. If that could be the soulution for forward that vould be a move of the summer.

Drogba Talks Have Begun - Galliani
In arguably his most frank admission yet, Milan chief Adriano Galliani has revealed that transfer talks for Chelsea star Didier Drogba have begun...
»Comments (48) Print This Story Send To A Friend Contact Us galleria zoom The Blues hit-man has been looking to leave the club since the departure of former coach and great mentor Jose Mourinho early on in the season.

Having been linked with all of European football's major heavyweights, many suspected the Cote d'Ivoire star's new club would be the same as Jose's, but with the Portuguese now bound for Internazionale, the favourites to sign Drogba are their city rivals Milan.

Milan have not been afraid of emphasising their need for a striker or two this summer, with Amauri - now officially of Juventus - being linked, along with the less likely Luca Toni, former club legend Andriy Shevchenko (who is now also of Chelsea, much against his own will it would seem), as well as Samuel Eto'o, Emmanuel Adebayor, Mario Gomez, Karim Benzema and of course Drogba, among others.

It seems as if the former Marseille man is their number one target, with Galliani revealing today that negotiations have now begun.

"[Milan coach] Carlo Ancelotti wants Drogba. He does," revealed Galliani. "I do not see anything wrong in a transfer, talks have already begun."

That probably means Gallini wanted someone else... right? Showing that MIlan has alternative in order to push for a better price with the real target player.

MOst likely, this real target is on-par in terms of fame / skills with Drogba, so you can almost rue out Benzema & Gomez etc. I can see it'll be Eto'o,

Yes, Drogba is 2nd best solution after Benzema. The tipe of forward we need for serie a games.

Not to comment much on Drogba as everyone knows about him. Dont you guys feel like Milan needs an alternative for Gourcuff who failed and went to Bordoux on loan. Flamini is here, but now we have only 2 creative midfielders ( Pirlo play too deep ). And Seedorf is near his end. If we play with two forwards we will again be in same problems becouse of 2 aplyers that cant pass ( Ambro-Rino-Flamini). Of you think Flamini can play real CM role?

Alright...point made...we still pay the highest wages though, and so are able to keep the players we want. Berlu hasnt splashed the cash big time recently...but does that mean he never will again? Watch this space...

2. gomes on pair with torres.....hahahahahaha!! That is what Im talking about: statiscics make people blind for football. How can you say they are on pair? SO MY POINT it that the fact Gomes scored like 40 goals in 90 games in Bundesliga means nothing and Torres is 3 times player of Gomes.. I never referred to Torres specifically, and they are both different "types" of strikers. Gomez need the ball in the box, Torres can dribble, and is a better "support" type striker.

That is not to say that Torres wouldnt work in Milan, or that Gomez is better...but since we have Pato, why bring in another player with his characteristics? Wouldnt a strong, "point man" be better for us, in the "Pippo" mold of striker?

In hindsight, Torres would have been a perfect signing..but we had $heva, so he was considered surplus. Its water under the bridge bro...let it go, he plays for Liverpool now...and wont be coming here, unless their debt situation gets really sticky, really fast.

Goal scorers are goal scorers though, and I dont care as much who comes, as long as they deliver 20 goals per season.

I saw on SKy now that there are 3 players on Inter's list: Eto'o, one of Deco/Lampard/Diarra and Carvalho. That is very possible and that would make Inter super strong. dont forget that Mancini was a lousy coach and now there is Mourinho. Lampard is going nowhere...Deco I doubt it, and Carvalho? Dont think he is going anywhere either..so it would be Deco of that list that I think will make it...Diarra..? Which one?

Torres hasn't impressed anymore than Gomez has through his career. In Spain his statistics aren't exactly phenomenal and quite frankly both were too young to really be certain if they would succeed. However, both are now becoming important elements to their teams (at all levels) and it's starting to show.

I recommend looking over my post again (btw, the youtube vid is a good watch ;) )...

VILLASIMIUS (Cagliari) - Adriano Galliani talked about the economical impact of Milan's absence from the Champions League: "Milan's balance sheets are made up at the end of the year. This means that for 2008, we will have only a semester without the Champions League. There's still a difference in revenue of about 20 million euros, with a scissor that increases if the Uefa Cup finishes in the first few rounds and you go far in the Champions League, and decreases if you win the Uefa Cup and you leave the Champions League early. In any case Milan still have Champions League level costs to deal with. But our president will continue to pour money into this club like he always has, bringing the club from the courtroom to being the most title winning club in the world, and although our balance will be negative, no crazy amounts will be spent. There are other clubs who spend more than us.

Read it and weep, or read it and celebrate...but read and take note.

For me, its less important how much we spend, but more about who we bring in. Price doesnt always equate to quality.

I am glad we are taking this approach to the market, despite the concerns of many here who want multimillion dollar signings every month or so.

Its important to understand the economics of the "business" of football...and where we were coming from, and where we are now going.

Lippi: I Will Never Coach Milan
------------------------------------------------------------
Marcello Lippi has closed the door shut on a possible move to Milan, and says that the only two teams he could ever coach in Italy are Juventus and the Azzurri.

Lippi has been on a two year sabbatical since winning the World Cup with Italy in the summer of 2006.

The 60-year-old has stated on numerous occasions that he would be returning to the bench in time for next season, and he has been strongly linked with taking over at Milan.

However Lippi has made it perfectly clear that he could never boss the Rossoneri as he believes it would be a betrayal due to his links with old club Juventus, who he enjoyed stunning success with during two spells.

"The national team and Juventus were the two big love stories in my life as a coach,” Lippi told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“They are the only two Italian benches where I could go back to work.

“Milan are a club who have made the history of Italian football and Berlusconi and Galliani are great leaders. But I could not betray my two great loves.”

Lippi has also been linked with a sensational return to the Italy bench after Euro 2008, but he says this is an unlikely occurrence at this stage.

“With regards to Italian football, for the moment, the door is closed," he concluded.

mrki and others. To me a mark of a great player (who some seem to covet endlessly) is what he did for the team when he was there or immediately after he joined and as such Torres has done nothing. I would say Liverpool were even worse this year than last. Of course thats not Torres' fault necessarily but the point is the great player changes the team make up completely.
An example of who I am talking about is one that left us in not so great circumstances (when he came and was with us, not now), I won't name names because thats offtopic :D

When I say nothing I mean propelling his team to trophies not goals alone, some great players have that effect immediately like Sheva did. And its not like the teams he has been on were filled with second division players except for him. He's been playing since 2001, yes he is young but sometimes he is over rated when a team is looking for goal scorers.

For a big club like Milan we need to spend big sometimes to get the right player for the team, but the main problem right now isn't the signing of big players it's the signing of too many mediocre players, who are on good contracts and have no value to the team, and the person responsible for signing those players and increasing their wages is immune to criticism because of history. There are too many mistakes in past seasons to give much hope to this summer imo.

who is the better player for our team, Maggio or Abate? Abate was tearing us to shreds when we played in Empoli and we were lucky he only lasted 1 half, had he (and Giovinco) been on for the whole game we probably wouldn't have come away with 3 points.

I don't know much about Maggio. What's he like?

nefremo
02-06-2008, 15:45
Maggio at this point I think is definately a better player then Abate. It was Maggio who was Sampdoria's most dangerous player both times that we played them. He created a lot of troubles on the right (our left) every time he pushed up. Ancelloti even mentioned before the game at the San Siro that we need to pay attention to Maggio on the left, and yet he still created lots of opportunities for Sampdoria and we all know how that game went for us.

He was one of Sampdoria's great tools for this season and surely one of their best players.(I think that him and Cassano are the ones that put Sampdoria to a higher level this season)

I mentioned him here on the forum a few weeks ago. Although someone here said that he is more of a midfielder than a defender, I still view him and think that he can be a great Cafu type of player/a wing-back.

Just read on soccernet that Mourinho wont get to pay FIFA 2009 with Inter´s transfer budget, as Moratti has indicated that he doesnt want to "disturb a team that has won so much"...if one considers 2 faxed scudetti "so much"...

2 things to consider:

1. Inter wont have a clear out/fire sale, and
2. Chelski wont have players leave for Inter.

What does this mean for Milan? Probably less competition for the "big name" players that according to some here, we wont buy anyway! :D

mourinho is that kind of manager who buys everything to achieve a little. being him at inter is really good for us :D just remember back when there were a rift between him and the owner he went out to public to cry out for the lack of sources .... i am counting on mourinho to mess inter's success .... and i can see it coming,
thank god we've got CARLETTO

1 Champions League
1 UEFA Cup
4 League titles,
2 National cups
2 league cups
2 National charity trophies

Not exactly an embarrassment of failure, his only poor point was the pressure to win the CL with Chelsea because of the owner spending loads of money (much like Inter have in the past), and he did get beaten by two eventual finalists. I know some of you will say yeh yeh, had it easy, had the money, you still have to turn up and win as no-one is guaranteed success.

I'm actually slightly concerned that Mourinho will instil a winning knack at Merda, I just hope that lots of people do not have to eat their words.

Having JM as Inter coach is not a pleasent thought. Having said that, I think Moratti and him will not get along from the start, as JM loves to control everything including whom to buy and sell. I actually believe the reason why JM did such a poor job last season was him showing the MGT that b/c u did not buy me the players I want, the team suffers.

Having said that, I think the challenge for JM is to change the current tactics of Inter to suit his style. It will be interesting to see how these players can co-op with him.

Thanks for replying Nefremo, you were the only one :D

Your description of Maggio is encouraging, though i still feel we could probably accomodate both he & Abate in our squad. Our signings so far have been encouraging (Flamini, Zambrotta, Boriello), lets hope we can add a few more additions of this quality to some squad players and we should be set to go for this new season.

Isn't the rule 1 new non EU player registration per season?

This means we can sign a non EU player who already plays in Italy and it doesn't effect our quota, however any new non EU player to Italy uses it. This means if 2 non EU players go, we can't get 2 non EU replacements.

I dont know, Galliani said we can now sign 2 players that are non EU. One of them will be Sheva by the end of the summer on a one year loan, it all looks that way. The other one - let it be some crazy young brazilian who can run 100m for 9.72 :)

Abate looked good to me and I would like to see him in Milan, but I doubt Carlo would ever play him. Faar too young for us :) Maggio is also young, we can send him to loan, haha.

And we may see our man Flamini on EURO! That would be nice!

I would like Milan to go for some "normal" players that are available and good: Dessena, Dossena, CIGARINI, Abate, and some other young ilatians. We need to work more on loaning out good young palyers like Juve does. But right now Cigarini can play in Milan without a doubt.
