MILAN, Waiting bring good results
17.06.2008 07.59 by Redazione TMW read 1149
As announced yesterday by TMW, in the meeting of Arcore between Adriano Galliani and Silvio Berlusconi, has been decided to wait. The fear of rossonero chairman is that to acquire too expensive players. The most important news is about the striker: Drogba hypothesis has born again, even here Milan will have to wait. Chelsea for the moment don't want let leave the Ivorian, but could made in case they would reach Fernando Torres target.
---------------------------
waiting so when window closs you can say 'they were too expensive' 'london is an expensive boutique'.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. Berlu, seriously sell the club. its an embarrassment milan fell out of champions league. and if you cant put necessary funds to reinforce, just leave... this team is not good enough to finish top 2 in serie A as of now
Berlusconi has more money than most English clubs combined. Don't underestimate the man. Not to get political (well kinda)... the last guy to underestimate was Romano Prodi... and lets just say... well... he's enjoying his pension.
I can now say for a fact that Zambrotta was one of our smartest signings as of late! That STANDS!

no one has crucified zambrotta. Everyones complaints on him are very valid. 1 he's OLD and doesnt have that much time left (lets assume 3 years tops) so he's only a temporary fix.
And if he's our only big money signings we have major problems and management has lied to is. it isnt really about him, but more because of him
I'm tired of this. Stop bashing Zambrotta. He performed beautifully on the pitch. What do you expect from the guy? He was benched a lot in Barcelona and had a lousy season with them... if he was SO OLD AND AWFUL as you say, wouldn't that carry on into the games? Sure his game against Romania wasn't that great (it was decent beyond the one major mistake), but his game against France is seeing him get back to his original form.
Be happy about him because suddenly when he starts playing with his old teammates like Pirlo he gets way better... and I'm sure he'll play even better with Nesta... HE IS WORLD CLASS. Nothing less.
Management hasn't lied to anyone. I don't see them stopping from acquiring players. And this win is a major boost for calcio italiano.

i'm tired of your responses? in WHAT way did i bash zambrotta?! SERIOUSLY?! point it out to me. I think hes world class. All i said is he is 31. THERE HAVE BEEN LIKE 2 fb's i can think of who were world class beyond 32-33...maldini and zanetti (who plays more midfield anyway these days).
ITS A MORE THAN REASONABLE QUESTION TO BRING UP THAT HES A TEMPORARY FIX LIKE RONALDO AND ODDO WERE.
edit: seriously read whats posted before you attack it.

ITALIANS LAST LONGER AS PLAYERS. Don't you get it? Zambrotta has 5-6 years left in him I think... hell look at Costacurta. Or Maldini that's still there. He is WORLD CLASS FLAT OUT. Realize with how player treatment has improved in the last few years, especially Italians, can last longer until their late 30s. Maybe they'll retire from the national team like Maldini, but they can continue playing at respectable rates.
Be very happy we got him! He's no temporary fix. He's a fix that will be there for years to come. Temporary fix...? Are you joking?
Nope. He's going to play with Milan at least 5 seasons. :3band:

thats nationalist propoganda. What are you going to say next?
What about oddo then? He was best RB in italy for a few years. saw huge decline when he went over 30. Sure he's smart, and can still make good tackles, but he doesnt race down flank anymore or cross well.
I hope you're right. but its really more the exception than the fact

Sorry I'm just really happy... Idon't mean to be overbearing...
It's just that... Italy... the last time they have beat France by a goal win (without PKs) was in 1978... I wasn't even born then... my dad barely remembers that world cup...
Zambro did have a good game but bear in mind that France is one man down (and he has more space to run into on the right).
Glad his form is going up.

Woah I'm on Cloud 9 right now, and so is everyone in Little Italy, Montreal! We flooded the streets with the Italian flags and made alotta noise..damn it feels good to see them win after so long. Toni had a great game contrary to what some think..yes he missed alot but no other striker could get in those positions like Toni can.
Warro, no bro, I havent been to Jamaica just yet but soon, real soon!
Veloso rumours are heating up. It's also kinda liike those Hugo Viana rumours a couple of years ago. His price tag is what - 20m pounds? They really think we're gonna spend that amount for him? If Pato was bought for 20m pounds, then if this guy has a price tag like that he should be better than Pato (which he isnt).
Cassano - can't we get him? This guy is exactly what we need!
Giancarlo
17-06-2008, 19:09
I'm with you, htmann... we should get Cassano... before Juve tries to get him... its our chance. I think Toni did hold the ball well and did pretty well... but darn it... he should of slotted it in the back of the net when he had the chance. That made me extremely nervous...
Anyways, as far as Veloso... that would be a good buy to bring even more youth into our team... but I'm sure most agree with me, we need a world class striker...

If I have to choose between Veloso and Cigrani, I will choose Cigrani simply b/c he is Italian and Milan is an Italian team. Having said that I do rate Veloso higher than Cigrani b/c he can play well in more than one position. Actually, Veloso is a younger version of Kaladaze.

yes.. Afellay is awesome. i saw the game last night against Romania. fantastic performance by him. he created many chances for Holland last night. like he never lose the creativity. great pace also. what a player !
What am I going to say next? Zambrotta is NOT declining.
I'd say he have already declined. I just hope he will recover instead of declining further.
In fact he's recovering from that horrendous experience he had with Barcelona.
The likelyhood that he just recovers from a so called horrendeous experience there isn't that high. Great players should be able to play good everywhere they play.

Itailan players often last longer because the tempo in Italy suits them and because they break through later. Players that break through earlier often end up finishing their career earlier too. Truly great players and some exceptions of course.
Barcelona treats their players like dogs.
this may be taking it a bit to far, but it is true that Milan in general have treated their players far better than most other clubs. Currently that is kind of the problem. We been giving away money in stupid contracts a bit to much. Now Galliani complains about that, yeah the contracts he gave away to begin with.
I really really wished we got Ribery. Of course not now that he is injured, but last summer. He would have made the difference.

Sometimes great players don't have good experiences in some places, and are better in others. Adriano is an example of this. Zambrotta is too. That's a fact. Barcelona does treats its players badly. Zambrotta didn't play with BArcelona because the way Barcelona plays and how their staff was before. Like it or not, even great players don't play great everywhere.

No, it's not the problem. It's part of the solution to maintain cohesion amongst the squad. We retired quite a few of our older players, by the way.

Agreed.

This is not a fact until he shows himself better over a season with us. We will see which tune we will sign a year from now. I'll hope you are correct in your assessment.

They retired themselves. In most cases a year to late. "cohesion amongst the squad"? What does that even mean? Fact is that we have not played well the last two seasons and that mostly been because we had overpayed over the hill reserves. Most of them collect silly wages while being out injured the whole season. all the while our first teamers have none to take some load of them... Most of them having higher wages than Adrian Mutu...

Respectfully disagreed. We will have to get back to transfers I hope. I'm sure he will show us that indeed and I have confidence in that after his displays. And 31 is not old. He's not declining.
? Zambrotta played, he played most games and in the same position he plays for the national team.
I can't agree with you at all on anything really. Players can go to different teams but their performance depends on team work with other players. Why can't you understand?
If you're gonna argue with me that great players should play great with any team they play... obviously you're wrong. Just look at Mario Gomez. Plays with Stuttgart, not so well with the German national team.

Cohesion means team work and such. I don't agree with just about anything you say, so I'm not going to take this any further. There are many trophies the last few years that show Milan is working well. This previous season was poor because the team had injuries. Now is time to get new players I agree.
Why do you find it necessary to criticize me? Zambrotta will play very well with Milan and I BET ON THAT ONE! FACT.
We retired many of our older players.
Edit: Sorry I just like being optimistic about things. I can't stand to be around negativity all the time.

You criticize his point of view, he criticizes your point of view, you criticize his point of view, he ... what's the problem ? Both criticize each other's point of view.
For Zambrotta, I hope he will play like a king and will rock in Milan, but we can't be sure about that and will have to wait until next season to know if he was a good purchase and addition to the team or not (what is bold is a real fact).
I'm pretty optimistic about our team and our next season (ask to some posters here), but we can't be "too optimistic" too after a season like that and about players we buy. I think we'll do well (Serie A champion !!) but it's not difficult to admit that some players we buy could fail (or not). We'll be able to do a statement of our current mercato only next year, or even in 2 years (while we can say that this mercato is good for moment, it's only "on paper", I mean, we don't know if it is a good mercato on the pitch) !! It's as simple as that ...

Agreed, we can't count our chickens before they hatch. On paper who would have thought that we would have struggled to score goals in our own stadium in the first half of the past season.
We just have to wait and see how next season will unfold.
Naturally if things go badly, then the new additions wil be blamed. Then all those who were so glad to get them, will be bashing them asking why we bought them in the first place.

Can someone please find, and post the link to my post where I listed the Silly Season Rules? Its somewhere in this thread.
I think its time we had a little refresher.
Apparently a few members have forgotten, or are unaware of the rules that if followed, would go a long way in preserving their sanity.
Thanks in advance. :D
These rules ?? :D
Silly Season rules:
Rule 1 Almost every time, go against what club officials say about pending transfers, and what players the club are interested in
Rule 2 Believe everything the club officials tell you about upcoming transfers
Rule 3 Tabloid reports, are 98.7% accurate
Rule 4 Tabloid reports are never, ever, ever accurate
Rule 5 There are no rules.
Shevchenko gratis, Ronaldinho gratis, Flamini gratis very well
ok then i will do Subscription a Mediaset Pemium
only if it's gratis
i will buy ticket for milan game only if they are gratis
for the first time i am EMBARRASSED that i am rosonero coz evry football fan on the planet are SNEERING us we are acting like a serie b club not like a champions that we pretend we are
SHAME SHAME
i will ask Galliani to send a plane for me to Croatia so I can go and see Milan - Inter gratis and everyone will be happy in the world without money we spend!
If this statemant is true I'll be phisically sick...
If Galliani is able to "buy" Ronaldinho for free, he's THE king !! I think he's the king ... lol, so let the time going ... it could become funny :D
The only thing I will keep from that interview is: "oltre alla promozione di Darmian" ... that means that Darmian will be part of our first team !! Cool !!

Thanks GeoTav! I appreciate the reposting.
I think its clear that until a player is seen at a press conference called by the club, holding up the kit with his name on it, that we have no idea what is really happening.
The media at times, know even less than we do.
So for me, these supposed statements by Galliani etc, are nothing for me to worry about yet, and I simply refer those who have trouble dealing with that, to rule #1, especially when you dont want to believe the reports.

No, Kaka's brother is Digao ... no hopes for him !! lol
Darmian is a young Italian defender who played maybe one or two times for the first team in Italian Cup matches, I think 2 years ago (when Aubamayang had his chance, anyway Darmian was 16 I think or 17 and he played only several minutes).
Rumours in a newssite here in Norway that Barcelona are gonna give 24 mill pounds for Adebayor. Of course there's no source or anything like that on the site.

Ok, thats a relief Geo, thanks (havent had my morning tea yet) :D
On another note: I read somewhere on this thread that reports have Berlu (in a meeting with Galliani) giving 7M pounds (more?) into the trasfer kitty for a forward, and today, I am reading where reports have him and Galliani had a meeting where he disclosed that no more funds would be pumped into the transfer bucket, and our mercato therefore is closed.
Now really. What do you choose to believe?
On the Darman "promotion"...still speculation, but it wouldnt be a bad thing to promote from our primavera ranks once in a while. We did it with a certain P. Maldini..and look how that worked out?
Not saying it will work all the time, but I am happy that we would go this route...or else why bother with a youth system if you never promote anyone?
Would like though, having said that, to see Paloschi going on loan, if he will not be used much next term...that way he can play more, and develop faster.

What does it say for the lotto numbers for Jamaica today? Let me know will you....I will split the money 50:50 with you!

(When last I heard, R10 was a player that Berlu really really wanted) :dontkn:
:devs:
If we don't get a good striker then Paloschi stays, so Paloschi will stay. 7 million pounds won't get a decent sub striker nevermind 1st choice.
Our best hope is our youth players suddenly become great players, ditto Dida, Kalac, Kaladze, Favalli, Emerson, Borreillo, Antonini, Abate, Abbiati, Oddo, Janku, Brocchi, anyone else?

We all know Berlu has the money to spend. However, I think he also wants Milan to show that it can "walk on its own feet". I don't think this has anything to do with his motivation. He just doesn't want us to function as a club striving to stay afloat.
Not getting in the CL has hurt us. I don't share Galliani's pessimism with regards to Italy being behind Germany now in terms of the market, but his rants do have an element of truth.
If you look at the recent history, Berlu has not really spent a lot on a player. Couple that with no CL, and I don't think we will get a striker of any significance (Eto'o etc.). However, that does not mean we shouldn't go for someone in Italy, get back into the CL and then really really invest.
Just my opinion, and I also have my doubts as to whether Berlu really really wants Ronaldinho.

Why is it that when we are faced with conflicting rumors/reports, we often tend to go with the more negative of the two?
Pragmatism? Or just negativity?
(Ok, so three questions :devs: )
it seems we will offer Oddo, Simic and cash for Mutu, which i am not totally against, but with mutu, seing he is not the powerful center forward, Milan has on there radar, then i do not see a need for Boriello.

I have a question.
Why is it that when we are faced with conflicting rumors/reports, we often tend to go with the more negative of the two?
Pragmatism? Or just negativity?
(Ok, so three questions :devs: )
Generally I am very positive, but we have to remember that we are not in the CL. As such, unless Berlu invests, we ill not buy star players. That is my reasoning. Oh, and I love to eat humble pie :5130: if it is for the better of our beloved club.
If you look at the recent history, Berlu has not really spent a lot on a player.
Around 20M € for Pato isn't enough ?
I see it's not your money ... lol

We all know Berlu has the money to spend. However, I think he also wants Milan to show that it can "walk on its own feet". I don't think this has anything to do with his motivation. He just doesn't want us to function as a club striving to stay afloat.
Not getting us in the CL has hurt us.
However, that does not mean we shouldn't go for someone in Italy etc., get back into the CL and then really really invest.
Just my opinion. No issue with ur opinion bro...none at all.
I just differ in some respects. I think he will make one or two big splashes in the market....why? Well the team needs it, and i think he wants the best for the team. I dont think he will break any world records, and I think R10 is gonna be here before the summer is out.
If not, so be it. We are good enough to make a strong scudetto challenge...but I think its clear for us to be competitive next term, we do need a more proven striker than Boriello.
Plus, after Rino slapped him yesterday, I think he may be a bit intimidated. :delol:

Milan could have also bought Pato by the money that the club made. I mean coming in, Abramovich style, and putting cash on the table.

Too bizarre to merit any serious comment.

By "Darmian" are we talking about Kaka´s brother? Even more reason for me to disbelieve this latest report. Doesnt suit me at all.
Though GeoTav has given a brief explanation, I'll try to elaborate a little. Darmian is a youth product (around 18 now) that has played in the senior squad on occasions, mostly in the Coppa. Many consider him one of the most promising young defenders coming through in the Italian game, with him playing in the Italian defence in a recent youth tournament (Under-19 I think).
Personally, I think if given the chance to grow, he will become a world class defender. I know some others, like Kris, aren’t convinced yet, but certainly few will argue against him being one of the most exciting players coming through our ranks.

We were CL champ last year and did Berlu invest the squad inorder to make sure we stay as champ???? 20Mil for Pato is huge BUT he is an unknown and he is someone who will be available till Jan.
I am not jumping off the support our MGT wagon just yet, but the payroll for next year is 120M or so with no CL. The MGT can assume we will be in the red, and the only way to not be in deep red is SIGN players that can help u promote the team(sell more merchandize) and help the team to win. That way people will keep flooding the games and even so-so fans will actually begin to support MIlan and go to every games. Another way is to cut payroll, guys that have no use and get paids MILLIONS MUST GO. IT is as simple as that, nothing against Dida, Brocchi, Emerson, Favalli, Simic, Oddo, Janku and Kalac, they are all good players, but the money Milan is paying them, they are really way overprice.
:wow: Look guys don't worry....If Berlu wants the club to stand on its feet then cool. We'll surely suffer for the next 2-3 years but it's all good...
1) the gloryhunters will surely leave us and only true rossonero will stay.
2) eventually galliani and co. will be forced to value the promising youth
3) transfers will become more streamlined and we won't just buy a player because he's good or cheap
^ Essentially this means we'll become more like Juve :yuck: but Juve have been doing well domestically and it's time that we showed the rest of Italy who we really are.
But if this is the new direction of milan then we need to get cracking on:
a)Booting out wage guzzlers
b)Booting out players who surely can't cut it at the top level
c)Borrowing the funds for at least one superstar every two seasons
d)perhaps considering increasing Milan's shares on the stock market
e)Investing in our youth academy/primevera and scouting services.
To me this holistic outlook must be implemented if Milan is to be independant of Berlu. I also fear some of our ideals/family spirit might be lost in the process
we cannot afford to buy players unless we invest or sell players, according to Galliani.
so whats the problem, there are many players i could find to sell, and make a good amount form.
Simic, Oddo, Seedorf, Favalli, Marek, Brocchi, "Gattuso's Bytch, Boriello" Storari, Dida, Abbiati, Kalac, (not to sell all keepers, but any one of the three + storari should be sold),
Emerson, Auyomabeng digao, im 50-50 for kaladze.
not to sell all the players named above, but some can be sold to help make up for transfer prices.
we cannot afford to buy players unless we invest or sell players, according to Galliani.
How he can't be ashamed to say such a nonsense. :irritate:
thats nationalist propoganda. What are you going to say next?
What about oddo then? He was best RB in italy for a few years. saw huge decline when he went over 30. Sure he's smart, and can still make good tackles, but he doesnt race down flank anymore or cross well.
I hope you're right. but its really more the exception than the fact
Let's stop here. Oddo was best right back in italy for a few years? You kidding me? He can't even hold down a place in the NT.....don't make me laugh, he was just a decent RB at best and that's when he was close to 30. :nana:
I know alot of you guys might think i'am crazy, but i agree with Milans policy right now.
Milan has to get deadbeats like Emerson,Simic and Dida of there books.I am also happy that Milan is facing this problem.because without problems there will be no change.
The Mutu deal makes alot of sense,if we can part ways with Simic way or another and move Oddo another high wage earner+13million,you do it yesterday.Maybe Oddo is on the decline and not just injured last year?
I totally agree with guys on this board, that say its a 2year fix with some of the transfers.Milan has to stop buying players like Ronaldo,Emerson and Redondo all from Real that have shown that they are injured in there past.It just seems that Milan gets caught up in the big name hype with these guys.
These players have nothing to prove at Milan and are at the end of road, unlike Italian players who have more pride in playing for of one the big clubs in Italy.
Milan has to invest smarter now, because they been burned and now being out of the CL it really hurts in different ways.

Milan have shown interest in Veloso, and Braida's claims are not a surprise to Veloso's Agent. His contract clause is € 30M. Otherwise negotiations may start after the Euro2008.
---------
Veloso hasn't really impressed me so far in the Euro, although i didnt see all of his performance in Switzerland-Portugal.. another Sporting L. player has impressed me slightly more, is Joao Moutinho.
---------------------------
Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has said Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o and Ronaldinho will not be joining the club as they can't afford to compete with English, Spanish and German clubs for their signatures. (La Gazzetta dello Sport, 1110)

What is going on here guys? Is this just smoke and mirrors in an attempt to lower the price or is he saying that Man City and Villareal have more spending power than Milan?
Look at inter for flip sake, Berlusconi has ten times the fortune of Moratti. ???

I hope these rumors about our transfer market ending are wrong.
We NEED an offensive midfielder and a striker (preferably a physically strong one), and would have good use of a central defender (Darmain seems to be stepping up for that role) and a class GK (not going to happen, since we bought Abbiati.)
If Berlusconi cant give us A LOT of money, then we could opt to sell…
Dida earns € 4M, and is benched. Favalli €2M, Simic 1.8, Brocchi 1.5.. these are all close to useless players for us. I see Dida as the one we need to replace the quickest - he is paid too much. with flamini in our team we can get rid of Brocchi... with darmain we can sell Simic....

I think Galliani is full of doubts about Etoò and R10.
Why? Barca now has decided to eliminate 3 great players such Deco, R10 and Etoò - Gaurdiola has been very clear about this point - as soon as possible. (Ok, this is a real detriment for the culè and it is here that cynically Galliani is waiting in order to reduce further on the prize). But is growing a big question point: is it possible that a great team such Barca lets to leave 3 of the best players in Europe? Again: especially for Etoò, who has been already ignored by Real 4 years ago, and now again is rejected by Barca. What does it mean? I think now in via Turati aren't so sure about the Cameroun boy.
according to me, this could be the AC Milan reality now , plus obviously the counted money to act and the absolute necessity to do the right thing, because he definitely must not fail this time .
About Cassano, I heard a comment of an old journalist:
" Cassano's first 3 steps are an extraordinary mixture of elegance, beauty and balance and that's the reason why they remind me Gianni Rivera's first 3 steps."
"Ho avuto la fortuna di poter ammirare campioni in ogni parte del mondo e da qualche anno sostengo che i primi tre passi di Cassano, uno straordinario misto di equilibrio, di bellezza e di eleganza, somigliano molto ai primi tre passi di Gianni Rivera."

The 25-year-old is undoubtedly one of Italy’s most naturally-gifted players, and following a couple of years where his career seemed to go off the rails, he last season lit up Serie A while on loan at Sampdoria.
Cassano has just recently signed for Sampdoria on a permanent deal from Real Madrid, however he has a minimum fee release clause in his contract of just €15m.
Earlier this week Tuttosport reported that Juventus were considering making a move for the forward as they plan to find a long-term replacement for Alessandro Del Piero, who will turn 34 later this year.
The same newspaper says that AC Milan and Inter have now also entered the running to sign the skilful attacker.
"He would be a bargain for Juve, Inter, Milan and any great team,” said Eugenio Fascetti, the coach who launched Cassano’s career at Bari.
Inter are prepared to hand Sampdoria both Robert Acquafresca and Francesco Toldo as part of the deal to sign the former Roma man. Milan meanwhile could also decide to include players in part exchange.
Nevertheless it seems likely at this stage that Cassano will choose to stay at Samp for one more year, before moving to a big club in the summer of 2009.

goal.crap. Don't know how he'd fit out tactics but thats a problem i'm willing to deal with!... Personally I think cassano would do best here. We have mostly model citizens and respected players. Maldini, gattuso, pippo etc would not stand for his tantrums. Sadly the article really says nothing of milan actually having interest

i actually think ancelotti is type of manager best suited to manage him.
Mourinho as good as he is, is like capello. doesnt take ****, benches you, is condicending. definately gets results but i dont think that style would work in long haul w/ cassano (aka some major bust up within a year or so)

Adriano is a left sided player who is equally adept at full back or in a wide midfield role, and he has impressed greatly since signing for Sevilla from Coritiba in 2005.
The 23-year-old has attracted the interest of a number of top European clubs, and there have been rumours in the press that one of these are Italian giants Inter Milan.
Adriano has admitted that there has been contact with other clubs, and while refusing to confirm that Inter have been in touch, he did say that it is his dream to one day play under Jose Mourinho.
"My agent is dealing with my future," said the Rojiblancos star.
"I know that there is contact with other clubs, but I cannot confirm that among these there is also Inter.
“One day I would like to be trained by Jose Mourinho, one of the best coaches in the world.
"Enzo Maresca [my team-mate] told me that I am ready for Serie A and in recent years I've proved my quality."

MILAN, Enters Race For Arda Turan
18.06.2008 09.40 by Yusuf Atahan Erim read 1732
Source: Fotospor
According to Turkish sports daily Fotospor, Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus are observing Galatasaray's star 21-years old midfielder Arda Turan. After his two goal performance and display of play-making abilities in the group stage of EURO 2008, Arda began to appear on the radar of many big European clubs.
Most recently the young Turkish national was being scouted by Arsenal which is said to have a 12 million euros offer rejected by Galatasaray. However, recent rumors linking AC Milan with a 20 million euros offer and Juventus with a 10 million euros plus Almiron in exchange for Turan have Galatasaray executives rethinking their strategy.

In conversation with Gazzetta dello Sport, Galliani revealed he had held talks with Milan patron Silvio Berlusconi about the cash crisis.
"The ownership of Milan has always brought certain responsibilities and will continue to do so. It's no coincidence that we're facing a revenue loss of about £30 million due to the non-qualification for the Champions League," said Galliani.
"The club has always thought big and continues to do so. Berlusconi has always left me with a great deal of autonomy in management. That is why I say that the choice not to go shopping mad is absolutely mine. There are significant economic reasons that have led us to reflect.
"I am not exaggerating when I say now that Italian football is in fourth place in Europe behind England, Spain and Germany. Unfortunately we can no longer compete for certain players.
"The fate of our football will continue to suffer unless we change things."
Galliani added: "I still believe this Milan will be competitive with the signings of Mathieu Flamini and Gianluca Zambrotta, plus the return of Marco Borriello, Christian Abbiati and Luca Antonini, in addition to promoting Matteo Darmian."

i'm just embarassed by galliani's comments.... i dont know what else to say. For a club of such 'class'. These are very classless statements. I also find it very disrespectful to the fans. Milan charge some of the highest ticket prices. Highest pricing merchandising etc. The fans then should expect a high priced competitive product. Something they havent really seen in over 2+ seasons of serie A matches now.
I look to the ManUtd. A team who is DEEP in the red, however there owner will give them what they need to stay on top. Because thats the only way you get out of depth. By WINNING and grossing more revenue. ManUtd's dept is well into the 100mil of ppounds too. not 30 mil euros. Thats something 2 good seasons can clear.
The thing about sports ownership is, it RARELY draws a direct profit. Its profit is in value of club. The more money it makes the higher its valued so that when its sold you have made 300mil or whatever maybe.
The sad part is 3 more good signings this club can win serie A.

I agree with u and I think u also answered u own question. Berlu will never sell Milan and thats why it is important for him to keep the club to not go into deep red.
The thing that pisses me off is that Galliani comes out, shouts and decalres to the WHOLE world that we are GOING to sign a WORLD CLASS striker, for sure! Stupid statements like 180% done deal...
Then he comes out and say everyone is too expensive... What did he expect? Go to Chelsea, Barca or Arsenal and say "hey guys, we want your best striker, and we have 5 million to spend!"
If we didn't have money, should have shut his mouth and not make Milan look a Serie B side...
If Berlu wants Milan to stand on it's own 2 feet, then why give players like Dida 4mil per year, why keeps players over the hill, sell some players to make some money, and run it more like a business rather than a 'family home for over the hill players"... sell players if they are underperfomring, etc etc...
Sorry for the outburst and off topic comments... just frustrated reading galliani's statements...

I think the media is exaggerating certain things he is saying. We certainly have more money and I think people should stop criticizing Milan management as heavily as they are doing. Milan is in fact having one of the most active transfer seasons of any club I know, and not only that we retired like four our players. Yes I will have an outburst too, at the inappropriate nature of certain comments directed at management.
Yes, I am one of the few who defends the management here more actively than others, but I feel I have a case.

Cassano only recently signed for Sampdoria on a permanent deal following a hugely successful season-long loan from Real Madrid, where he helped the Genovese qualify for the UEFA Cup.
The 25-year-old’s outstanding form saw him win a place in Italy’s Euro 2008 squad, and he is now arguably a regular, having played the full 90 minutes of yesterday’s 2-0 win over France that booked the Azzurri’s place in the quarter finals.
Cassano has now become something of a hot property on the transfer market, and reports have suggested that Milan, Inter and Juventus are all fighting it out to meet his minimum fee release clause of €15m.
Samp transfer guru Beppe Marrotta has admitted that the two Milanese outfits have been in contact regarding the skilful forward.
"It’s true, Milan and Inter have sounded us out about Cassano,” said Marrotta at a restaurant in Milan where he is currently participating in some charity work for the Milan Foundation.
“However, for now, we do not intend to sell him."
Cassano scored 10 Serie A goals from 22 appearances last season.

what media exagerration?!! i took it as that till today when you have DIRECT quote ( i can give it you in italian or translated to english) out of gallianis mouth. Theres NO EXAGERATION THERE! I just wish he'd deliver on his promise of 7-8 new players (sorry i didnt realize recalling half our former youth squad was new players) and a top class striker.... this consistent statements about adebayor is no different than real madrid w/ ronaldo (which we can all agree is classless)

Here we go again. I'm sick and frankly tired of your constant crying that Milan does not get the players YOU WANT. If you're so business savvy why don't you try to get a job in Milan?
I'm kinda happy that certain people on here are not even close to Milan because if they were we would probably be in the Serie B. How are we being outspent my Sunderland? Wake up boy, we're having one of the most active transfer seasons in the Serie A, and any analyst can tell you that. What he said was just a ploy because when business deals go public they have the tendency of getting ruined.
Recalling our youth squad? We recalled two players from the youth squad. What's the problem with that? I know you HATE looking within for talent... it just didn't occur to you that Milan has one of the best youth systems in the world.
And offering below is part of the negotiation process. For example not to compare players with real estate (though some would), it's basically common to do that. You have to get the best bang for the buck. Milan isn't willing to throw money away like Chelsea.

No frankly, I see no validity in your statements. I never have. What's wrong with the players we are getting? We are reinforcing our flanks, and midfield. Often major signings don't come till later. Do you even realize while deals are confirmed now, the transfer season doesn't technically open till July 1st? That's when the big player start to talk.

Berlusconi & Galiani defender to death.
This goes back to what I was telling you before. There direct quotes from Milan mananagement that the media just prints to paper. The stick a mic in their face and management say what they say.
Just because it may be shocking or against what you believe management is all about, doesn't mean the media twisted it all around to form an alternative meaning.
Milan management must be lauded & praised when they handle things astutely, but also have to be held to account & questioned when their statements or promises aren't followed through with.
Statement 1. "One of the following players are arriving"
Statement 2. "We are lagging behind fianacially and can't compete for certain players any longer"
Management should never have said statement 1.

I'm sorry but I thought this thread was "summer mercato", not lets launch some unsubstantiated attacks on managements and lets hope it resolves something.
Sometimes certain things are said to cover business dealings. Yes maybe I did attack the media harshly... but... certain things are said to send deceiving messages to the other party so business dealings aren't derailed. It happens all the time in the business world. It's sort of the thing you find in the "Art of War" by Sun Tzu which is commonly applied to the business world.
I just wanted to say that most people here upset are not mad about NOT getting the player we want. We're mad about being lied to and taken for a ride. If Galliani said "We have no money"
at the start of the transfer season I'd have stayed (relatively) quiet. But to say that Player X is 90% a milan player and that "we're going to sign either this player or that player" and CONSISTENTLY failing to deliver is dishonest dishonourable and classless. I don't care how you try to justify it legally, ethically, politically....it's MORALLY wrong.
The sad thing is that the milan fans are such a polite classy bunch. Tell us the truth and we'll move from there. We're not unreasonable...I mean if Henry was supposed to be ours and Ribery and Toni etc etc....the question to be asked is "who do we have of equal stature?" So far all I can see is Pato.
It's like you're a kid and your parents promise to take you to Haagen Daaz for ice cream.......but months pass and you never get to go. Then when you aks why your big brother tells you "shut up! They already have done so much for you ...ingrate :wth: "

-Borriello is a waiste of money. I'd have rather sold him to genoa. I dont think he'll do anything.
-Abbiati is a proven keeper. proven he is not GOOD enough for milan
-antonini? please....another name you overhype simply because of milan ties.
so we have
flamini- class DM
zambrotta- class Fb, but older
abate- VERY interesting young talent
in my opinion flamini zambrotta and abate will not erase a 20+ POINT DEFICIT to inter last 2 seasons...
Complete utter nonsense. For one, Borriello is not a waste of money and I think he will prove himself and prove many people wrong.
Antonini? Wow. You're attacking someone you admittedly know very little about. That's classic. Overhype? How is he overhype? I saw one mention of his transfer and that was it.
You're going to call Abate very interesting and just slam Antonini?
By the way, since Milan doesn't have the CL to worry about, there will be extra emphasis on the Serie A... so a 20 point deficit won't happen I believe.

Hardly. You are older than me? that's classic. My views are not minority. Wow. That's incredibly elitist if I ever seen it. You do not represent Milan fans and stop trying to speak from them. And all you do in here is posting condescending attacks.

I don't agree with just about anything you say, and I certainly don't agree with you on this one. Right now, I'm seeing results. Galliani is only sending deceiving messages to other parties that may be interested in certain players. That's how business works... don't like it? Fine.
I simply don't buy into the attitudes of some on here, and I think its frankly unsupported. I see more complaining and crying, than I see discussion about the actual transfer season.

I do support the MGT but the thing is that they must understand that they really made mistakes in the past few years by giving players contracts they don't deserve. In here we brag about Milan being family and that we only go after what we need and players come b/c they want to be part of the family instead of outbidding others like Chelsea and getting the players. Well, to be honest, for 120M/per year and winning only 1 CL(those SuperCups and CLUB WORLD CLUB does not count as true Championship in my book) for the past 3 years, is really UNDERACHEIVING. Look at Juve for example, they were in Series B last year with no CL. That means their revenue will probably be at least 50% less than they used to. And yet, how many players did they signed last offseason to make the team competitive, and how much did they spent, pls help me out here Tony29. All I know is that, for awhile Juve was challenging for the title and now they are in CL. I expect them to sign more players in order to win the title and go far in CL.
Now lets look at what Milan did after winning the CL last year. Emerson and Pato(Jan). Then the MGT has the idea that Oddo is like a new signing and R9 is another new signing b/c he can play in the CL for us. Need I say more.
I am just afraid that with that mentality, even if we manage to get a CL spot next year, the MGT will not invest more b/c they will think that all the signings this year are new signings b/c they did not play in CL.
I really wish the MGT can make me eat my words at the end. I am just really fed up with all their lies.
What I am afraid is that Galli and others are working on one or two huge signings, R10, Drogba, Eto or even C7, but the fact is that no one or two HUGE EXPENSIVE signings can make Milan into title contenders as there are just too many holes to fill. The sad thing is that the MGT thinks that by signing one or two expensive signings, us fans will be happy. However, thats not the case, all we ever want is to see Milan come out week in and week out to win win and win. Even if Milan shock the world and sign C7 and Zltan. Our midfield will still looks shaky, defense is so so, and GK is still a huge question mark.
I would really love if Milan can just sign useful players instead of a superstar.

No it is not related at all. You hardly, if ever, talk about actual transfers and whatever there are some you complain they aren't good enough.
Yes, very unsubstantiated. You don't even live in Milan correct me if I'm wrong? I have family actually living there and they know what is going on. There is too much money in Milan to have anything fail.

In this situtation there linked since management is in control of the summer transfer market.
So according to your second paragraph it's okay for management to lie....sorry I'm mean use deliberately misleading statements to gain the advantage in their business dealings with others...but the media can't spin the truth for their purposes, which is to sell papers.
I've posted many times that management should say anything about a player coming until it's done or very close to it.

What Milano84 is saying is that the MGT have been using the same old lies over and over and over again for the past few years. Namely stating target x and never deliver. Which you have the right to be upset b/c the MGT are really lying to their fans over the years.
Giancarlo is a supporter of the MGT, I dig that but u must also admit that none of the others Clubs MGT will come out and say so and so are 180% ours and then come out a few months later and say that so and so are too expensive.
The point is that we all support Milan but most of us if not all questions the MGT abilities to deliver us a product that us loyal fans deserve.

we're still lacking a clinical finisher upfront....well minus pippo who is as clinical as it gets but cannot play a full 90 minutes or season anymore
Take a look at what we HAD in certain positions and compare this to hwat we have or want you'll realize that the team's class has dropped a few levels well.....from Stam and Cafu at RB to Zambrotta, Oddo and Bonera ?
From Shevchenko, Crespo, Rivaldo at CF the only name worth mentioning is Pato (OF course I wish for ronaldo's return more than you'll ever imagine but you should plan for the worst) As for the striking dpeartment the only out and out striker is Borriello from Tomasson, a Inzaghi in his peak??? What sickens me is not the fact that we can't sign big stars or is no going after big names. IT is the fact that we say we will sign so and so and then NOTHING happens or they say the player choose another team b/c we can't afford his contract.... if that is the case, then shut up from the beginning.
Management is pretty embarrasing. It's a broken record with them. My personal favorite was the "Mr. X" saga, although the "180%" has been a close second. Nobody else is spouting nonsense, and it makes us look really desperate.
We've got to grow a sack and cut some players, simple as that. We're a family, and we're nice, but this is football and that means winning and having the best team. My brother is a great chemical engineer, but not a good painter, so if i want my house painted, i'll hire someone who can do the best job. He'll deal with it.
San Siro was a chorus of whistles and boos, starting from TWO seasons ago when fans could tell that we had problems. The fact that management seems to think we're idiots/sheep that will lap up anything they is purely disrespect. I don't care if we finished last and had to field the primavera team in the uefa cup as long as our management was honest. Actually, I'd prefer if they stop making themselves look foolish and just shut up.
I'm pretty up for next season, it'll be a good chance to experiment, blood new players, try out new tactics, but my god, off the field lets stop embarrasing ourselves.

all i've seen is a few youtube clips where he looks good.... but then again who doesnt on youtube
Wow such bickering...you people are amazing. I'll only reply to Giancarlo's comments about Milan having one of the best youth systems in the world. You cannot be serious. Just last year or year before we were talking about how Milan had NO players in the Italian U-21, U-19 or U-17 ranks. Even Galliani admitted this and started investing more in our youth team from last season. Also if we DO produce good players they never see any time of day because they're loaned for 10 seasons before they come back at age 32 for a bench role.
Our youth system pales in comparison to that of teams like Roma, Barcelona, Ajax let alone the South American teams. When last have we had a player break through the youth ranks and stay in the team? Maldini ?
Nevertheless we seem to be improving as we have a few players in the U-19 team, one in the U-17 I believe plus Paloschi, Di Gennaro etc. Maybe we'll get there soon but as of now I wouldn't say we have one of the best youth systems in the world. Then again with Ancelotti as coach these players wouldn't be given much of a chance anyway....................

18-06-2008, 13:10
I admit that I am very disappointed in Galliani's recent comments.. I've always said it is better for him to keep his mouth shut and deal with the transfers rather than giving the fans false hope.
They've been promising us certain players and players of certain calibres for two years now and all they've got that is worth noting is Pato - who we need to norture for a few years. The 180% thing he said, along with one of Ade,Drogba,Eto and along with the Mr X thing...and now he complains that we don't have money when clearly it is our managements fault for having such high wage bills and still ending fifth in the league.. sad to see players like Dida, Brocchi, Emerson, Favalli earning so much..these are the reasons why we dont have enough cash - not because of the taxes..it is because of their poor management. Galliani always finds someone to blame, always..even when we lose a match he almost always blames the ref.
I really would like to see Galliani resign. He is humuliating Milan with what he says.
Giancarlo, the X button is on the top right corner of the browser if you cant find it

Hitmann, I agree with the ref thing. It's sad to see how they tally up points we "could have had" or penalties we "should have received" on the website. Paranoid much? Just get on with your damn job, Galliani.
Italy and French national teams performance have shown alot of how football is changing-both teams loaded with big names, been around alot, won alot, but now things are shifting, and those teams seem to be drifting off. The core of both teams have been really ragged, and the youngsters haven't been given the full chance to play in a system for their capabilities. Plucky sides with major grit, major speed and physicality are able to offset the technical aspect of these teams. It's been a real eye opener. Contrast that with the dutch; they are stacked with very technical players, but also fighters like Engelaar, Boularhouz, even Van der Vaart doesn't mind a scrap or two.
I don't want Milan to turn into a foreign side, I want to maintain our Italian identity, and there are players in Italy capable of forming a winning side. Let's focus on this rather than some wild goose chase of Mr. X that will never show up. This is our year to take risks and chances, to remold and reshape the team for the future. This management I think does not agree with my views. The thing is. I agree milan is an italian side and should always hold that identity. I am the first to back that point up. but if we made 4 foreign signings now. We still would have more than half italian players. No other big club boasts that many from there nation. We are really in no danger of losing the italian identity. Perhaps when maldini, nesta, zambro, gattuso, ambro, pirlo, pippo. oddo etc retire.... but by that point a new generation of 1st team azzuri players will emmerge and you know we will sign a few of them.... hopefully before they r 30 :-D
Milano, agree with you, I wasn't trying to say that we're not Italian now, but I don't want to be Arsenal, that's all. I do think that is something that Berlu would never let happen (it would look terrible politically), and I've always been happy with our mix of nationalities.
btw, i dug this up.... http://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Primo_Piano/2007/09_Settembre/11/guadagni.shtml
click on Tutti i 494 stipendi and you'll see last years wage bill for ALL of serie A.
DIDA peticularly is ridiculous.....and it only adds up to 71.5, where as it says 120 mil. can some1 explain this? Multiple sites all report our wage bill is 120 mil, so i dont see why thats wrong..
120m is with taxes included while the numbers presented for each player are tax free.
Also don't forget that Italian players might come cheaper than foreign players, take less time to gel with the team because of similar language and are of the similar quality. Like Tony29 said...why shop in Porto Alegre when you can shop in Vicenza ?

doesnt mean they r better though. Good players are everywhere. not every italian is good. not every brazilian is good. not every spaniard is bad.... sometimes a good mixture can add different elements to make the team better
I was just giving an example. I can bet my life that if there were an 18 year old striker ripping up youth team football anywhere BUT South America we wouldn't spend 20 mil on him. Give him a Brazilian passport then...................
P.S. (I'm in no way criticizing Pato...just using him as an example)

It's good to be upset, because it shows passion to Milan. But we all need to take a deep breath and remember the history of Milan. The club will find someone at striker and i hope goalkeeper. Now it may not be the guys that we want, but with with Milans track record, you have to believe in the team.
That said it's probably a player that's not even mentioned in the newspapers and also why do so many of guys just go with what newpapers and media say and then panic about it.

I was just giving an example. I can bet my life that if there were an 18 year old striker ripping up youth team football anywhere BUT South America we wouldn't spend 20 mil on him. Give him a Brazilian passport then...................
P.S. (I'm in no way criticizing Pato...just using him as an example)
good point. But it also has to do w/ brazilian league and team having a track record. If pato was brazilian playing that way in the MLS in america he would have got 12 mil.... soley because people dont trust the competition.
I once bought a Ming dynasty vase that said "Made in Italy". And Yes it was cheaper from Vicenza :o

It's just image for years. Image appears when something has already become almost a certaintity. Mechanical parts from Germany 'must' be awesome. If a unknown country produce a mecahnical part which is similar quality with made in germany or even better, people wont pay higher than what normally pay for the german part.
Its same like Brasilian (south american) regarding football talents. Even if a young player has more talent than Pato, if he is not south america, no club will pay Pato's price. Players from south america (Brazil) 'give' more guarantee for the clubs that buy them.

I respectfully disagree with your point of view here. Even though we do not have the resources to play actual football managers for AC Milan, we can still judge the work done by the management by the outcome. And the outcome is that we have failed miserably in the transfer market for the past 3-5 years. The management might have the resources to make the right decisions, but they didn't make the right decision for us, and that is why people are upset.
Whatever you said in the second paragraph honestly promotes more problems than it provides comfort for us. Sure, they will find "someone" at striker and goalkeeper. If the past track record of the last few mercatos means anything, that someone could very well end up in the same class as Emerson or Favalli. Sure, he is someone, but what we need is not someone to just wear the jersey but someone who can actually make a difference. A guy who can solve our scoring problems and a man who won't give out goals like free lunches. If all we are going to bringing in is someone in Emerson's caliber, then what was the whole point of selling Oliveira and Gilardino? We are supposed to get better as a team through the mercatos, we haven't done that for the past half a decade and still have not done that right now.
Maybe I am overreacting a bit because time is still early, but I am seeing trends similar to those happened the past couple of years. We talk a big game and then start finding excuses not to deliver them. And now, we are yet again on that whole "our team is great (used to be perfect) as it is" thing. I was really looking forward to see a drastic change of transfer strategy here in Milan this summer, and from the way things look right now, I will be a very disappointed man come September.

You're right, the body of results clearly show this over the past few seasons show this. In the league we have progessively gotten worse every year in the time period you mentioned.
Now money...someone mentioned if any team should be crying about money it's Juve Serie "B" and no CL for 2 years...but Milan is the team crying poor!
Juve play & purchases that ensured them a top four spot in their first year back in the top division. Ours have equalled our worse result in years!!!

I see where I am going to have to put these in my signature until the mercato ends. :sigh:
I mean really....do we recall the Nesta saga? The Gila saga perhaps? The Pato saga? How quickly we forget the inconvenient examples, and how easily we recall the convenient ones.
Now, let me hasten to add, that I dont like the way Berlu and Galliani conduct mercato business...but what choice do I have? Lets see:
Choice 1: Rant, fuss, fume, stress, raise blood pressure, and die 10 years before my time because of two Italian men and the decisions they make?
Choice 2: Camly decide not to be ruffled by media reports, and if Mgmt dont buy/sell who I think we need, or want, continue to live a life full of joy, happiness, and pleasure.
I took the 2nd choice, the minute $heva was sold.
Life is too short to:
a) spend hours on the net looking to see who your club will buy
b) spend hours debating on the net mgmts efficacy or lack thereof
c) get stressed over what Berlu and Galliani do or dont do with regard to the mercato.
For the several years that I have followed Milan closely, this summer is the best of a mixed bunch so far. Its the fist time we have been so active in one mercato, and at such an early stage, for a looooooong time.
I refuse to get worried about Berlu and Galliani´s comments, because, as has been mentioned, no one knows what to believe....do u think Berlu wont spend big this summer on Milan, when we are already a bit in the red? I dont, I think he will...many here prefer to believe otherwise, and I can understand the angst when the words come from the horse(s) mouth(s)...but again, history has shown that these men lie, and do so well, and without remorse, with a perfect poker face.
That said, I am Milanista for life...they could lie until the cows come home..I wont care if we win some silverware.
The Mercato to date: Yes, I think we have done ok so far this summer, with 2 or 3 more singings for me to be fully satisfied.
Who really needs to be satisfied though, is Carlo Ancelotti, and the remainder of the team. Not us, at least those of us in the internet population. The season ticket holders are another thing entirely, and this is my point.
I am confident the club must realise that with all the hype over Mourinho, the Viola in the UCL, etc etc..they will need to do something to mobilise the fans, and maximise on the available income streams..thats only solid business practice.
Hence because Berlu is above all else, a business man, I think the spend isnt complete for this season.
Thats just my view though.
Feel free to keep yours.

the last good mercato we had was 2002. In 2001 we brought in pirlo (22), rui costa (29), inzaghi (28), kalatze (24) with a few others... and then in 2002 we supplemented w/ seedorf (26) and nesta (26). In 2003 we got kaka (21). And since then we havent signed a single player who contributes majorly today except pato. i'm not even counting the players like tomasson etc who contribured a little for a year or 2 but then left. I mean i suppose bonera, oddo... but i mean really... If you look at other clubs its not that way.
You can say those 2 summers (plus kaka) they brought in so much, and there was no need... and i'd say you're half right. But results of this season (along w/ the previous in serie A) clearly suggest the squad needs some major updates. Also keep in mind we havent won a scudetto since 2002, and while i'll give you we were more interested in europe. Teams like barca and manUtd r able to balance both ambitions....basically whatr you can say is, although we had a greatt first time. we clearly lacked the depth necessary to deal w/ the rigors of a 38 game league schedule on top of CL fixtures...
So when we got 5th i was very dissapointed but, after a week i got some energy. I thougght it'll be 2001 again. We'll make some top notch signings.
so far this summer we've brought flamini on a GREAT deal. Then Zambro who is class (although older). And thats it. I really dont see borriello, abbiati, antonini doing much. Its just the same old recycled stuff.... some fresh faces would do us well.... they dont need to be major money signings. but major talent. Although 1 proven goalscorer wouldnt hurt. The same way we paid big for pippo and nesta.... because we knew what we were getting there.... Class. I love signings like sheva, pato, kaka who r somewhat unknown. promising talents etc.... but there is a risk too. thats why when we took pirlo, we brought rui costa. Kaka was bought when rui costa and rivaldo were slowing down...
i'm rambling...but i hope this clears up truly what i believe/want. I want to see milan win scudetto more often than once ever 7 years.
The signings were hit and miss, but when we hit with Kaka it really balanced everything out didn't it.
Last 5 years:2003-CL winners,Italian Cup and Super Cup winners.

2005:CL Final a day that i will never forget.

arshavin, pavlyuchenko....
John Arne Riise is officially a Roma player after putting pen to paper on a four-year contract in his £3m move from Liverpool.
The announcement came this evening, only hours after he was given permission to fly in and speak to the Giallorossi directly.
Roma announced they will “hand Liverpool 5m Euros, to be paid in four instalments (on July 1 2008, September 30 2008, 31 July 2009 and 31 January 2010).”
The Serie A side will also give Liverpool 100,000 Euros for every two seasons in which the team participates in the Champions League, 75,000 Euros for every 25 appearances in an official game to a maximum of 300,000 Euros.
Norwegian international Riise signed a four-year contract today worth 2.8m Euros per season – just under £2m – along with performance-related bonuses.
The 27-year-old leaves Liverpool after 31 goals in 347 appearances since 2001.
wow i'm really puzzled why didn't we go for him only 5 milion euros and we would have had a great player knowing that Janku is injury prone. Zambrota on the right and Riisse on the left would have been perfect, i'm really confused why did Liverpool let him leave that cheap does anyone know?

Agreed. Oh, and you forgot: Pato! :5schal: (hopefully lol).

Just saw the Russia-Sweden game, WOW!!!:eekani:
The whole Russian team was awesome, and I saw that Pavlyuchenko also fills into our requisites - 188cm tall. In addition to that he is 26, and runs like Gattuso. As I have heard before though, he probably has a high salary.
The players themselves might not be that good, it might just be Guus Hiddink's magic we saw tonight. He only trains "small" teams and accomplished the impossible.... maybe he could train us, and accomplish the impossible: win the Scudetto with our current squad :grinser:
(kidding, im sure it is possible to win... but the odds are clearly lower than the likes of Inter)
Please forgive me if i forgot players like,JDT,Moreno,Contra,Jose Mari,Seedorf.
I will say that if Milan are not going to spend large amounts of money on a striker.
How should Milan spend about 25million hypathetically.
Should it all be on a striker or should it be for a striker,GK and CD.Or any combination.
Then who should it be,my opinion it should be Boruc at 12million,Menez at 8-10million and Miranda CD of Sao Paulo at about 3-4million.

perhaps russia is a good market to dabel into. Russian players look good, especially when they got there playmaker arshavin back today. Now imagine a couple of them, like pavlyuchenko or zhirkov (a lwb) playing w/ kaka, pato, pirlo etc....
Players like vagner love and jo and daniel carvalho look good for brazil too.... Russian league plays fast, aggressive and actually decently technical. Besides eastern europeans tend to do well in serie A

Wake up fellow milan fans, we aint getting any super buys, mr galliani will only get freebies or over 30's, just look at his first two signing flamini=free (great signing buy the way) but if he wasent free we would never have had him, and zambro(over 30) galliani is just kicking dust above our eyes with his meaningless comments about new players. Yuri Zhukov (8.5) A rival for Daniel Pranjic for the best left-back at Euro 2008. A threat from set-pieces and gifted with wonderful technique. An asset defensively and offensively.
Andrei Arshavin (9.5) Loses the mark for his booking but otherwise faultless. As close as the perfect game as one can play. Resourceful, efficient, lethal - he made up for missing the previous two games. Exceptional talent.
Roman Pavlyuchenko (9.0) Was guilty of missing chances as the game ebbed to a close. Could do with adding a ruthless streak to his otherwise well-developed game. Links the play well, committed and selfless.
Arshavin is probably most talented but 1 we'd need least. Pavlyuchenko and zhukov wont go for much. My eyes will be on them vs. netherlands for sure!

I must say I really despise Galliani.
And I don't believe this is just silly season tactics. I honestly think we do not have the resources to buy players. We have to admit that. Berlu will not invest unless he absolutely has to. And how come no other team is whining about fiscal austerity? Inter always go about their business and even Fiorentina, Napoli etc. have all strengthened.
I honestly hope we sign a star striker because we have never really filled the gap left by Shevchenko. Furthermore, Ronaldo is now injured. We pay very high wages to our players. I think we should just offload the absolute crap in our team first (you all know the names). I think having 16 quality players is more than enough for Serie A. I know it has been repeated before, but I really don't think this is a bluff.
I honestly hope Galliani was not lying about 6-7 players, but he probably was. This is what he does every summer. He prances around , makes a lot of noise, and signs either players that aren't up to snuff or he just plain misses out on players. Berlusconi needs to do something. Look at the passion Moratti has for his team. Ok, he is sort of a fool, but you cannot fault the man for his passion. Inter have a fantastic squad.
Sad sad state of affairs.

@giancarlo
Good points Giancarlo (even though I always imagine you hunched over and red in the face when you type these posts). :D
However, the issue is that Galliani starts the summer off very positively, and around this time he starts sounding the death knell for Italian football. I don't know if Berlu instructs him to do this, but it gets very irksome. The signings we have made so far--I would say I am happy with. But Galliani has done this whole thing before: whine, and miss out on players. My only hope is at the end of the summer, Berlu will come in and buy who we need.

Can anyone else confirm this? Both these players seemed like targets of Milan in recent months.
Zhurkov was class today, he is like Daniel Alves but on the left flank..he is a complete player. Arshavin also impressed me.
Behrami for Sale
Ok let me pour water on any hope of getting him
1)Not experienced enough
2)Not Milan material (everyone's favourite)
3)Too expensive (read "not free" )
4)We have enough left backs
5) Ibrahim Ba is coming back
In other news: Am I the only one that thinks that goal.com's article on where David Villa will go is a clear indicator of the fact that Galliani has been reading Fidel Castro's guide to easy foreign transfers? :rotfl:
Say what you want but Galliani is right about the competitiveness of the Italian teams on the transfer market.
We've discussed this many times but i'll repeat it for those who don't know yet.
The taxes in Italy are much higher than in other countries. With a very simple example: If Milan pays 60m eur to the players for their wages, they have to pay around 120m eur total after taxes are added. Barcelona, if they also pay 60m eur to their players, they will pay a total of 80m eur after adding the taxes.
The difference (for one single year) is 40m eur. It's a huge difference. Barcelona can actually add 3m more to their player's wages and still pay the same total sum as Milan.
And the players will certainly choose Barcelona's wage offer and reject Milan.
But i still don't understand why Milan are spending so little. One member mentioned Juve and i find it strange that Juve are spending much more than Milan.
Yes, it's not like Juve made some great transfers, but still they spent more.
On the other hand, when you see how did Juve do with the bought players, you could maybe understand why Milan aren't taking the risks :
Juve play & purchases that ensured them a top four spot in their first year back in the top division. Ours have equalled our worse result in years!!!
Last year Juve bought :
Almiron for 9m, Tiago for 13m, Iaquinta for 11m, Criscito for 7.5m, Molinaro for 3.5m, Andrade for 10m, Nocerino for 4m.
They payed total of 58m eur and if you think about it, you'll see that only Iaquinta (as a sub) can be counted as someone who helped Juve reach the 3rd place. Juve made the result with the players they already had in serie B. Del Piero, Trezeguet, Chiellini, Buffon, Camoranesi, Nedved, Zanetti....they were already in Juve.
Ok, then Sissoko was bought at half season and he did great, but the point is still the same. Since Juve couldn't get the best players in the world, due to the problems Italians experience with the wages, they were forced to buy average players and these average players couldn't do much, as expected.
This year Juve are again spending a lot. 23m for Amuri, now 17m for Alonso and more to come. Both Amauri and Xabi Alonso are very good, but are they the ones who can take the team to the next level ?
Milan on the other hand chose to be careful and spend big only for players who could take you to the next level, players like Pato.
I really don't know what else to say. I see the logic in what Galliani is saying and doing but i'm still surprised why the board won't show at least some more activity on the market and enter a bidding war with the other giants at least for one single world class player.
Hasan Rossonero

Tony29:
one reason is that Milan have a fairly good starting XI in place. They did not have to dismantle their team after calciopoli. Perhaps they still don't feel the need to invest after missing out on the CL. :v46:
I think Italian teams have a simple philosophy when it comes to big players. They pay their bandieri high wages. Inter-Ibra, Roma-Totti, Milan-Kaka, Juve-Buffon/Del Piero. Then the rest of the players are paid competitively. The difference is that Spanish teams pay almost all their players fairly well. I think Milan are the only Italian team who also do that, so that's why they are hesitant to spend much more.

I understand your concerns about your team. There are some things the management MUST DO and these include: get a strong, powerful striker, an attacking midfielder and maybe one or two more young defenders.
It is concerning that management did not get anyone these past few years. And it was their fault we couldn't do better than 5th.

And hey at least we didn't buy the own goal specialist Riise. :)
I think he was just trying to make conversation and see if you have anything in common. I think.
The Riise non-purchase is a cause for relief :D.

You did even better, you bought someone who both scores owngoals and assists them :D
And it's not like Riise will score owngoal on every match he plays.
But he's a player i don't rate at all and i'm sure Milan didn't miss anything, so i agree with you.

Eh... well this is a thread for player buys...
I mean come on every team needs a Riise... I just have memories of that beautiful goal he scored.... never mind it was into his own net... it was just stunning!

Who are you talking about? I don't really remember too many own goals in our team... that's something that happens at higher rates in the EPL from what I see (this is just what I see, and is not objective).
I'm just making fun of him that's all.
But hey, I hear something about your juve team... first Mellberg, and now your team is getting Stinkovic... I mean Stankovic... from what I hear... good luck with that. :) BTW how did Mellberg do today with Sweden LOL!!!
I think he is talking about Zambrotta :). Did zmabro own-goal before?

When? Zambrotta committed a mistake in the Romania game... but, I don't remember when he scored a header like what Riise did... I think Zambrotta is a great player and far better than Stinkovic and the totally outplayed Mellberg who stunk against the Russians today (more reason why I think Milan should get Arshavin).

Mellberg was destroyed by Arshavin, but who wasn't outplayed by the small Russian ? At least he didn't make a decisive assist to the Russian striker.
Mellberg is a free transfer, used for squad depth and i'm sure he'll do great against the Reggina's and Bologna's, allowing Ranieri to rest Chiellini or the right back.
Stankovic is a very good player that had a very bad season. Like most of the players in Milan. Plus he always plays great against Milan and he may come handy. I doubt Inter will let him go to Juve though.
He'll be a perfect sub for Camoranesi if he joins Juve.
What Juve are doing is called adding depth.

Um, Stinkovic was a very good player a year or two ago... but this is no longer the case. Mellberg is out of form and I bet even Reggina can beat Juve (again). Get better reinforcements... whatever happened to Juve's youth academy? Seriously, Milan is going to do be doing better with our real reinforcements. We dont need some 18 year old from Sweden and some washed up Swedish defender.
Zambrotta did right during the France game, and you can't deny that. He was vital. Perhaps, along with Pirlo, one of the best player son the pitch.
What's wrong with Juve anyways? Del Piero and Camoranesi didn't do well under pressure. Del Piero got dropped in the game against France. Even though Roma are my rivals, I view them as more capable and stronger than Juve.

I would've loved to have Mellberg. We need a guy with a beard on our team. He's a great addition to a team, especially on a free. And Barca and others were after him, so it's not like he's a slouch. I'd like to see us doing more of this type of business, getting squad depth on free transfers, rather than 5 million for Emo. 5 mil is still 5 mil, and that one hurts.
Arshavin hasn't played since end of May, he was ripe for a huge game as he's been sitting on the bench, so I think he was extremely ready to kick ass. It should be interesting to see how things develop with Russian players, as their league is flush with money and ability is getting better. I can't see a major exodus of Russian players personally.

Well Roma ARE stronger than Juve, the standings are a good proof for that. They played CL and made it far and yet they fought for the scudetto.
As for Juve's youth, 3 youth players will be part of Juve next season with Giovinco being the gem. Watch out for that guy because he'll be, without a doubt, the best player in Italy for years to come.
De Ceglie and Marchisio are also regulars for the u21 team and will play at the olympics. Both of them will play for Juve next season.
Zambrotta is awful at this euro so far. Playing ok against a 10 men toothless France without Ribery isn't something to be proud of.
And when i said he scored an owngoal i was joking about the third goal Holland scored to Italy. Watch it again and see who was the last player who touched the ball, trying to clear the ball but doing the exact opposite. :)

Well Milan is bringing in three former youth players... and I think Abate is our own fantastic making. I do respect Giovinco... but I have a feeling he'll go elsewhere...
Zambrotta impressed against France... and he did decently against Romania despite the one mistake. He improved from game to game, and it was said he was the best player against France. the short falls of the first game were most linked to Barzagli and Materazzi, who have been benched the last two games, and the inadequate formation used. It isn't Zambrotta's fault. Stop saying he's bad. It simply not true.

Lol, Giovinco is a Juve player, where would he go elsewhere ? They can't stop talking about him and how he's Juve's future. Even Ranieri counts on him as Nedved's replacement.
I don't say Zambrotta is a bad player. I actually watched every single match he played for 7 years, i know perfectly well how good he is.
I'm saying that he was bad at this euro, and he certainly was. He wasn't awful as Materazzi, Barzagli, Gattuso and Del Piero against Romania, but he was pretty bad.
I know him very well and i can tell you that what he's shown in Barcelona and at this euro isn't even close to the great matches he played for Juve and Italy until 2006.
You sound pretty sure that he'll do great for Milan but after 2 bad seasons and now after a bad euro i'd think twice before i say that the 31 years old Zambrotta will make Milan much better.

Juve has the tendency of losing players... too easily... it's just the way they are. Secco is a fool too... can you really rely on him to bring you change? Zambrotta was much better than Materazzi and Barzagli. He wasn't "pretty bad" against Romania. Yes that mistake was terrible but he was man enough to admit he committed a mistake he knew he shouldn't have.
Milan so far has brought in Zambrotta, Antonini, Abate (arguably one of the best future players), Flamini and Borriello. With the exception of Zambrotta, these are fine young talents...
But to say Zambrotta is pretty bad... he's the best player on the pitch for the last game... and he's stepping it up. He'll do fine for Milan. Yes I'm pretty sure. I'm confident. Milan fans never expected anything from Emerson. Well at least I certainly didn't. I was hopeful with Ronaldo, but what happened to him was a terrible accident... it's not his own fault. He tried his best, and he did score for us plenty... when he did play for us he did fine.
I really do hope for Ronaldo's full recovery.

Why is it funny? I'm totally serious about that. I doubt you have ever seen him play because of your comments. Often youth talent takes time to emerge... often it comes sooner and busts right into the scene like Paloschi did with his 10 second goal (I think it was).

U guys are too funny sometime.
Abate is good and have all the tools to be great. But he is far from being the best future players as someone by the name of Pato, Messi, Cesc, Bojan(that Barcelona kid), Zapata and Balotelli already laid claim to that. As it stands now, I think Messi is the most exp. and the best player at this moment.

You never know... you may be underestimating him. Balotelli is a bit overrated in my opinion though... not just because he's with Inter...
Btw, I'm talking about future Azzurri players... future Italian players...
I am still waiting to see how the baldy will explain his idiotic 180%. Honestly, I don't want $hevchenko back, and I don't have to have Ronaldinho either, it is just that I have no idea how that percentage came up. I was an adamant supporter of the management, I still might be, but obviously Galliani is becoming more and more clown-ish every day.

Relax Giancarlo, just like somebody else might underestimate him, it's probable that you overrate him as well. Siregar was laughing at your comment about "the best future players", not at you. But you make yourself look ridiculous by saying that "I get it" and "some people laugh at all italian youth players, and lets just buy ALL players overseas... yes. That's smart." You also said that "youth talent takes time to emerge". That's the one thing we don't have now: time. Only time will tell if he turns out to be an outstanding player. Until then, myfellow milanisti, try to relax and make peace with people who have different opinion.

That was extreme sarcasm, so obviously yes I do get his point. I don't understand what your point is about why you insist to harp on about this. Yes, I get his point... he's simply not correct in this regard. I think Abate is more than worthy to be on Milan's squad.
I'm not making any peace with him.
You said that he's "one of the best" then Siregar disagreed. Which one of you is "correct in this regard"? NEITHER of you is correct nor wrong.
You said that before and so did I: it's TIME alone that will prove if he can live up to his promise.
Why make such a fuss about the thing that doesn't even happen yet?
I've read other arguments that you have with other members here. In some cases I disagree with your opinion, but all in all I respect you, because we can disagree without being disagreeable.
But by saying "I'm not making any peace with him" you take it too hard, and make yourself disagreeable. Try to separate someone from someone's opinion. They're two different things

btw, i dug this up.... http://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Primo_Piano/2007/09_Settembre/11/guadagni.shtml
click on Tutti i 494 stipendi and you'll see last years wage bill for ALL of serie A.
Kaladze 4, Emerson 3.2, Jankulovski 3, Favali 2, Oddo 2, Simic 1.8, Brocchi 1.2, Kalac 1 (mil eur)
Cordoba 3, Zanneti J 3, Cambiasso 3, Julio Cesar 2.5, Maicon 2, Chiellini 0.9, De Rossi 1.75, Mancini 1.45, Vucinic 0.6, Frey 1.5, Amelia 1, Di Natale 0.65, Quagliarella 0.65...

I don't think he's done badly at all in the euro, other than the one Romania goal. In fact, I'd say he's been one of Italy's best players.
I don't think we got burned with Ronaldo. His signing was massive for half a season and was a major factor in our resurgence that year (including winning CL). Without him, I doubt we'd have got 4th never mind CL. We burned ourselves by not having enough cover for him last season, despite knowing he's injury prone.

me too. zambro did well in the euro apart from that mistake. however signing a 31 yr old player is never a good buy, we need to plan for long term. someone can think he can last for another 3-4 years, yes it's true but it's also true that he has more chance to decline.
i would be happy if we sign him as temporary solution for about < 5m, if more than that, we paid for an overpriced player.
Im convinced Zambro will play 2 very good seasons with Milan and he'll play then at high level. He will never paly as he used to for Lippi's or Cappello's Juve, but he'll be more then ok for us now. Even Abidal said they didnt work well phisically with Barcelona, Zambro will be ok. In Milanello drugs we trust! :)

anyway i searched tribal on pavlyuchenko, and found barca. real madrid and man city have been following him recently. and lokamotiv moscow is rating him at 8-10 mil. Granted this is tribal... the times ive watched him he's looked good. anyone w/ more insight is welcome
I think it is pretty important to remember, that the only reason Pavlyuchenko is playing is because Russias biggest star, Pavel Pogrebnyak, is injured.
Pogrebnyak completely owned the UEFA Cup, where he become the top goalscorer with ten goals, but unfortunately was out of the finale, with a little too many yellow cards.
Considering he plays for the richest club in Russia, he is of course nowhere near on Gallianis rader, but personally I think he would be fantastic to have.

This is a little video of Pobrebnyak, just to show everyone how perfect he is builed for what we are supposedly looking for.

Oh and Galliani also said that we can challenge for the Scudetto without Adebayor. Maybe, but we must admit that Galliani is a liar. We lose Ronaldo to injury and Sheva has not been replaced. Then we sell Gila to bring in Borriello, and all of a sudden our attack is complete. Galliani must think the fans are complete idiots. I absolutely loathe this man to his core right now.
Galliani: We'll either get Adebayor or no one (Gazzetta, calciomercato etc.).
Since I actually do believe he knows a little bit about finances, I find it strange that he just a month ago insured us all, that we would get a major striker signing. Now he backs down and says something about the bad economy in italian football. I just do not buy it.

Mercato is (official)closed!!
I am sure,no more players..FORZA PALOSCHI!!
Galliani said we are in debt 30mln becouse we failed to qualify to the CL and that we now cannot compete with big clubs financialy. Berlusconi ( a man who has 10 bilion euro or mroe and is priminister of italy, ownes SKy...) confirmed it. Nice.... well you failed to qualify for FOURTH place becouse you didnt inves ANYTHING!!!
Galliani continues with brilliant speach that now we have Abbiatti, Darmiani, Boriello ( who already said month ago that Carlo didnt know how to use him last time....so I doubt he willl know now...), Antonini, Abate, and of course Zambrotta and Flamini.
Overall expence and difference from sells and buys in 5 mln minus. Untill now Milan spend 5 MLN for players! 5 MLN!
and people should pay 40euro for a ticket to San Siro? Disgrace.
So you think it's a bluff?
Yes I do. When he promised us some of the best strikers in the world he was very much aware, that we would not qualify for the Champions League. Now he suddenly realize that they are too expensive. It just does not add up.
Some of you need to go to beach to relax !! lol
We'll have a new striker, we just don't know who he will be (we can't know if it will be Eto'o or Adebayor, Drogba or Mutu, or someone who isn't in our targets list).
Antonini (soon 26)
Abate (soon 22)
Borriello (26)
Stop crying, it's boring ...
You forgot to add James Smith from my local sunday league team :)

You are right. Take for instance Bayern. Now they are trying to sign Mario Gomez, but that would leave either Toni or Klose out, and I have a really hard time thinking they would be satisfied with that. But it could also mean one of them are in negotiations with another club.
I am not saying we will buy one of them. I am just saying that there will be strikers to pick from and that we will end up with someone.
Actually, I've had a strange feeling that Toni would come to Milan soon (by watching France-Italy). I hope this feeling is true ...
well he is over 30 after all, would fit right into galliani's plans.
if I understand correctly our REVENUE will be 30mil less, not our DEBT is 30mil

Stay tuned for Italy vs. Spain.
Maybe Torres will change his mind :d33:

My feeling about Toni coming won't change ... so if I have a feeling that Torres (and Villa lol) come, how will we do ?!

Little late to be involved in Abate discussion since my friend Giancarlo is already sleeping, but i have to say that i partly agree with him.
I certainly don't agree about the best future player because Abate is not the type to be one of the best players in the world but i do agree that he may become an integral part of a winning team.
I followed him a lot this year. I used to watch most of Empoli's matches because i was following Giovinco, Marchisio and Piccolo and i think i do know what can Milan expect from Abate.
First of all, Abate is way too one dimensional. By this i mean that the boy can not play anywhere else but the right side and can not play any position other than winger/wing back.
I've noticed that sometimes he plays as a pure winger and even though he's good i think he has the characteristics of a wing back. He doesn't have the technique to become anything close to Camoranesi, Mancini or what Donadoni used to be, meaning to be one who'll organize the game from the right side. He's not a great dribbler for sure.
But this guy could make (and will make, imo) a hell of a wing back. He's probably among the 3 fastest players in serie A (if not the fastest), his speed, especially with the ball at his feet is amazing. He takes the ball, he runs with it and in no time he makes it to the danger area and makes a good pass or cross.
Amazing pace, it's really tough to stop him when he's on a run.
Pretty one dimensional in attack, he's all power with great pace and stamina. These are the qualities that make a great full back.
Kaladze 4, Emerson 3.2, Jankulovski 3, Favali 2, Oddo 2, Simic 1.8, Brocchi 1.2, Kalac 1 (mil eur)
Cordoba 3, Zanneti J 3, Cambiasso 3, Julio Cesar 2.5, Maicon 2, Chiellini 0.9, De Rossi 1.75, Mancini 1.45, Vucinic 0.6, Frey 1.5, Amelia 1, Di Natale 0.65, Quagliarella 0.65...
No wonders we don't have money for transfers. We pay too big salaries, to some players.
Obviously Galiani's calculator was broken when he offered contracts :web:
I can't believe some of those wages, that's an absolute joke. No wonder we can't get rid of players like Brocchi or Simic when they earn more than De Rossi! We could cut some of those wages in half for a start and if people moan kick the 'deadwood' out and bring back more youngsers from loans like Abate.
Tony, it seems to me you are going to be over crowded in the forwards department. You already have Trezeguet, Del Piero, Iaquinta, Palladino (though i think he might have been sold/loaned), Giovinco, Amauri and yet today there are rumours of Juve getting Podolski & Huntelaar! I know Trezeguet might be off, but i think you're just being greedy now!! :delol:
I'd like to see us with Arshavin & Huntelaar, i think there's a chance of getting both for what we might have to pay for Adebayor.

Silly season rocks!!
Thinking of going to the beach today myself!
Who knows? Maybe I will see Galliani.

I think being able to defend, make tackles and an ability to read the game from a defensive point of view would be qualities just as important to make a good full-back.
@Tony29
Naa, it makes sense. He could be good fullback if he's still hungry to learn how to defend well (which I think he is). No one could imagine Serginho could finally play as regular fullback in Carlo's formation even in that time Carlo put Cafu on the right side. The point is : Serginho did improve his defensive skills even he was pretty old to learn something new.
Logically Abate could improve much better than Serginho as Abate is very much younger than Serginho (when Serginho was trying to get regular spot on left fullback).

Of course, but at 21 you work on these things to improve. He's far from bad in this department, eventhough he was rarely used there. His speed makes it very hard to whoever plays ML in opponents side to easily pass through Abate. Like Zambrotta. He never played in defense until he was 25 but he had the characteristics to do that, Lippi saw that and Zambro became the best. His athleticism and stamina made a great full back out of Zambrotta and i see the same characteristics in Abate.
Actually, i'm pretty sure a coach like Ancelotti already knows this and he'll be using Abate in that position.

Del Piero, Trezeguet, Amauri + one of Iaquinta/Palladino will be Juve's forward line. It's only media crap about Podolski and Huntelaar.
Giovinco can play support striker and left winger but he's a pure attacking midfielder, a playmaker. Like Kaka in Milan, Totti for Roma in the past and Arshavin for Zenit/Russia.
Hey Jim, we all know the guy but i believe you know him much better, so please tell me what you think about Xabi Alonso.
Edit: Sorry for double post, i always forget that people invented edit button.
I've been away for a while, so to stay updated on the goings-on here about I read the latest pages. Someone mentioned we've been linked with Jô of CSKA Moscow. Here's the story (from tmw :w200:):
http://www.transfermarketweb.com/index.php?action=read&idsel=18096
€25 mio. is a lot, but it could probably be lowered considerably. I'm a bit unsure about him. He's a big fella (1.89 m), just what we're looking for, but also he's young (21), so we wouldn't have to buy someone new after 2-3 years (like if we bought Drogba), so that way he'd be a good investment. Of course he isn't as proven as Eto'o et al. but he's done quite a bit for a guy his age. He's been a regular for CSKA for more than 2 years and has scored a lot in Russia (which is a pretty hard league to score in) according to wiki his stats are 30 goals in 52 games. Also on the positive side he's brazilian - and he has already scored against Inter :respect:.
I myself can't watch the Russian league, but i've seen him play in the CL, and thought he did well (considering his team were underdogs in nearly every game). I'd definately say he's improved since a year ago when he played in the Youth World Cup and was completely overshadowed by our very own Pato .
He's been linked a lot with Man City, but because he's in third-party-ownership-deal like Tévez, and the FA won't allow those deals, his move has stranded. So if we want him now would probably be a good time to strike. Obviously he isn't the ideal player for us (wih his youth and all) but if Eto'o is too pricy, Drogba likewise (for his age) and Mutu not really the player we're looking for + Adebayor won't move (and would be insanely expensive), then maybe Jô wouldn't be that bad. Personally I think he'd be a better choice than Adebayor (who is apparently our main target).
Or: (I just got this idea) Galliani could have a meeting with Thaksin and say :argue: "alright you can have Jô, but then back off of Ronaldinho!!!" how sweet that would be:nervous:...
I think Alonso is superb and i can't believe Liverpool are willing to let him go. He had a tough start to last season with an injury that kept him out for a long time and when he came back he had to try and dislodge Mascherano & Lucas who were doing a really good job for the team.
Given the way Liverpool were set up last season in a 4-2-3-1 formation, he played at the base of the midfield with Mascherano (when he was playing at least) and orchestrated alot of attacks, just like Pirlo. It's no coincedence that Liverpool are alot 'slicker' when Alsonso plays with his wide range of passing. He doesn't have a lot of pace, but he's more aggressive than i thought he'd be.
It's an obvious comparison, but he is the Spanish version of Pirlo and in the slower paced Serie A (when compared to the 100mph Premiership) i think he could really thrive. His vision and range of passing really are superb and he's usually very accurate with both passes and shots ... plus when he hits a shot it's usually like a rocket because he has a great technique. He's ambitious too & not short of self confidence, which you can see when he tries to lob the keeper from his own half in most matches (something he's done twice for Liverpool).
If he can adapt to Serie A (no guarantees i know) and settle in, then i think he'll be easily on a par with Pirlo, he has the exact same qualities the Italian has. I just think it's a joke Liverpool are willing to let him go and for who? Gareth Barry? :googly: I mean he's good and a stronger runner/better defensively than Alonso, but in terms of technical ability he's miles away from Alonso. I guess Liverpool are just hoping that his good England partnership with Gerrard will continue at club level. I won't mind too much if they buy Villa to partner Torres :D

Galliani is the DUMBEST manager in the world. So now it's Ade or nothing? PLEASE don't anyone tell me it's a smokescreen! I would believe it if this were the first public statement he made regarding a striker. But he's made many communications in the past stating we would sign a Drogba, Ade, Eto'o, etc. If he's trying to influence negotiations and lower prices by saying it's either Ade or nothing, then he did the EXACT OPPOSITE by mentioning those players in the first place. Galliani should just SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He keeps making public statements which do nothing but alert teams of our desires which obviously are going to impact how teams negotiate with us. As a professional manager, he should be more discreet about what the transfer strategy is and keeps things quiet until he's ready to make a move. But no, he rather blab and make boastful statements to get fans excited which puts pressure on him to actually come through on his promises which in turn drives the prices of our targets up. Seriously, other teams must have a great time dealing with our retarded boss.
I said this last summer on this site, but I want to play poker with Galliani so bad. His fat mouth would make me a millionaire. My only satisfaction in this mercato is that we haven't heard all these stories about how Milan are selling record setting season tickets. Last year fans believed and were hopeful and Berlu and co. took the fans' money straight to the bank. Now it seems that there isn't going to be as much money coming this year and I for one am extremely happy these fat cats are going to start hurting.
And to be clear, I'm not being negative over the transfers we've made so far. i actually am one of those who thinks things were going well. What infuriates me so much is the absolutely juvenile way Galliani conducts himself in the public. We will sign this player; we need at least one striker, if we sell Gila then two; we will focus on winning the scudetto. And now: we can't compete with Germany; we have a cash crisis; Ade or nothing.
This is all very similar to last year: we are European champs and we will strengthen our squad; you'd be shocked about some of the players that have expressed interest in joining Milan; mister X; a great champion will arrive. That was soon replaced by: we will try to sign player X otherwise our squad is fine as it is.
I hate Galliani with all my heart....

I agree with you Russo-neri. Unless some elitist on this forum convinces me otherwise, it is time to let someone else in to do the financing and transfers of the players.
Next thing Galliani will come out and say, "Read my lips - P-A-Z-I-E-N-Z-A fellas"
I am sick of his games. Why does he have to play them with us. We are really in a bad condition right now. If a world class striker doesn't come we have the same problems as last season. We won't win home games and wonder why we aren't. We aren't willing to pay for Boruc either. Phew!
I think you guys should accept the fact that Milan won't play CL next year. The money Milan can offer can be easily matched by the other great teams and for people who used to win CL or played year after year trying to win it (Eto'o, Drogba etc) it's not easy to suddenly find themselves in UEFA Cup.
People use Bayern as an example but did they buy a world class superstar that demanded very high wages and was wanted by every club out there ? They bought Toni who was 30 and never played CL in his life. Apart from the Italian teams who should have payed 2 or 3 times more in order to get Toni, no other team wanted him. They bought Klose from their domestic league and Ribery from Marselle. They didn't do their shopping in Barcelona, Real, Chelsea, Lyon or Arsenal, like Milan are trying to do. They were shopping in Fiorentina, Werder and Marselle.
But Galliani deserves Milan fans to be mad at him. If you can't do something then don't talk week after week how you'll do that.
I think Alonso is superb and i ........
Yeah, i agree with everything you said in your post. My thoughts exactly.
Injuries aside, Xabi Alonso is a brilliant player who makes the others play better.
He'll do the job Tiago was supposed to do and failled at it.
I like what Ranieri's trying to do. He wants to make a mixture of hard workers and technical players, good passers.
Capello's midfield consisted of Nedved, Emerson, Vieira, Camoranesi was very productive and hard to beat but it was painful to watch them. Apart from Camoranesi and Ibrahimovic the other 9 players in the line up were fighters and weren't good with the ball at their feet. Now Ranieri is trying to make a midfield mixture of hard workers (Sissoko, Nedved, Zanetti) and creative players (Giovinco, Xabi Alonso), with Camoranesi being a creative hard worker. This midfield will be helped by Amauri, Del Piero and Trezeguet, all of which offer different qualities in attack.
I like it (actually, i'm impressed) and i'm not so sure that Giancarlo's prediction will come true and Juve will be 7th or 8th at the end :)

Is Paloschi officially going on loan? Or is that decision only being made based on who is brought in during the transfer window?
If we keep him, I quite like the idea of Pato/Palsochi being our 1st choice strike partnership. Dunno about the end result/pressure etc but sometimes being thrown into the deepend and learning to swim is a good thing.

I agree completely. Even though i'm guilty as everyone else in here for mentioning the 'big' names, we can still have a great team with players from clubs inside Italy or from the 2nd tier European clubs. As long as we get the right players and not just the cheapest available then that's great.
Players like Pranjic or Zherkov might be good alternatives to someone like Vargas.

Juve will not finish 7th or 8th, they'll probably be around the same position they finished this time. Not sure you'll win the league, but then i don't think we'll win it either because i think for us it requires a change in attitude as much as a change in players.
I think if Trezeguet does go you could play 4-2-3-1 quite easily with Sissoko & Alonso at the base with Giovinco, Del Piero & Camoranesi behind Amauri. Could be interesting. :D
Zherkov
Great matches by the Russian at this Euro.
But what's even more great is how the English commentator pronounces his name as Jerk Off. :D
