It's funny I always found the Serie A far more interesting than the EPL... because of how technically skilled the players and teams are.

At any rate, I think it is more up to Adebayor than Arsenal at this point. I hear he wants to leave Arsenal. Wenger should just let him go because his heart is clearly elsewhere right now.

Zapata eyes swift recovery
Thursday 26 June, 2008

Udinese’s Colombian defensive star Cristian Zapata is on the road to recovery from a cheekbone fracture and aims to start next season at full fitness.

The highly rated 21-year-old suffered a serious facial injury during a World Cup 2010 qualification game against Peru at the start of the month.

Zapata flew back to Italy for surgery and is happy with the way that his recovery has started.

“Fortunately now I am well again and I can’t wait to get started,” he told Udinese’s official website.

“I want to officially thank doctor Massimo Politi for having performed exemplary surgery on my cheekbone fracture.

“Now I am just thinking about resting so that I can get back to training as soon as possible.

“After the injury I was really beaten down and sad, but now after the operation I am calmer and I can’t wait to start running again.

“For now I will be staying at home in Udine. That will be my holiday when I just think about getting myself back in shape to be 100 per cent for next season.”

I'm with you on serie A. but the average fan isn't

The average fan where? Here in the US? Well, I don't mean to come down hard on people here but they are not exactly well informed... all they follow are a few big name players in England.

The sad thing was if you all remember that Milan-Liverpool final game, I went to the pub on campus (yes they do serve alcohol 2 drink limit), and they had the game going... I was one of two Milan fans there... the rest were Liverpool fans.

I just tend to think people follow certain teams but they really don't have certain ties to the team... and some are almost glory hunting in a certain respect.

Milano84 brings up good points. The unfortunate thing is Serie A has become more attacking recently (some would argue even more than the EPL) but people love their stereotypes. For example, did all of you witness the absolute snoozefests that were the big clashes in the EPL this past year? Some of them were actually painful to watch. Teams like Roma and Milan are often mesmerizing when in full flow. But you can't win them all. When Italy won the World Cup people quickly forgot that Lippi threw on four strikers in the semis!!! They also forgot that it was Fabio Grosso (a fullback) who scored the winning goal and who won the penalty against Australia!

The problem with Italy is the violence, and the monstrosities that pass as stadiums. They must really address these issues because they don't make for pleasant viewing on TV.

Quite right, and this is why the EPL, with its enormous exposure, is winning the glory-hunting war.

Well, I see your point too... but I'm sure we all remember the Chelsea-ManU final. That was a snoozefest. I nearly fell asleep in that. I thought there was a great deal of attacking football in the Serie A (bar inter), and while Milan did not make the CL, I saw them step it up in the last few games. I think Italy with Lippi know will show the world once again at how Italian football is both attacking and defensive. While Roma is a rival, I always respected at how they play...

I just wish more people would open their eyes and understand.

Sad but true. It takes domination in champions league to show and even then.... i remember milan v manUtd 2 years ago. I nearly got my ass kicked after :-D

its the whole cristiano ronaldo phenomenon. If i argue kaka is better, its like i'm a moron....a couple fancy crossovers and a goal=sportscenter GOD. But all the subtle things kaka does, first touches etc, stuff morons easily overlook...his effect on his team, involving teammates etc.

Interesting comments about Schweinsteiger and Podolski from der Kaiser, talking about how they wouldn't have a problem getting a starting spot at Bayern if they played like they had at the Euro's. They're not exactly reassuring, or welcoming, so I think both players might be using this as a "shop-window" and looking for a new club; Schweinsteiger I think would be the more likely to go, I don't know why, just a gut feeling; he was the most active of a really sluggish german performance, and although he wasn't blowing it away, he still looked good.

When Bryant was six, his father left the NBA, moved his family to Italy, and started playing professional basketball there. Bryant became accustomed to the lifestyle there and learned to speak fluent Italian. At an early age, he learned to play soccer and at first his favorite team was AC Milan. He has said that if he had stayed in Italy, he would have tried to become a professional soccer player, and that his favorite team is FC Barcelona. Bryant is a big fan of former FC Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard and their star player Ronaldinho.

NBA's Kobe Bryant almost became a soccer player

By Luis Arroyave

Chicago Tribune

CHICAGO - Many U.S. soccer fans have wondered what would happen if the nation's best athletes played soccer, especially after seeing the United States' disappointing performance during this summer's World Cup

One of the athletes U.S. soccer fans dream about most actually dreamed about playing the sport himself.

When Kobe Bryant's father moved his family to Italy where he was playing pro basketball, then 6-year-old Kobe was introduced to soccer and the culture that came with it. Bryant often went to the parks in Italy to play basketball and would jump in on a game of soccer before hitting the basketball court.

"I wasn't anything spectacular," Bryant said. "I would have moments of doing something crazy that really wasn't done on purpose. I'd pull off a nice move that was unintentional.

"I started out at goalkeeper because my arms were so long and I didn't really have a good feel at handling the ball. As I practiced and progressed, they moved me to midfield."

The Bryants moved back to the United States in 1991. With few kids playing soccer in his Philadelphia neighborhood, Bryant turned his sports attention strictly to basketball.

Bryant never played high school soccer, but he credits his playing days in Italy for helping his basketball game.

"I'm comfortable (with basketball) footwork because I played soccer," said Bryant. "From changing up rhythms to foot speed, to being comfortable with having my right foot as my pivot foot and my left foot as my pivot foot."

Bryant entered the NBA straight from high school and has won three titles with the Los Angeles Lakers.

What would have happened if he had stayed in Italy?

"I would have kept playing (soccer) - that's for sure," Bryant said. "I loved basketball so much, but I also wanted to play for AC Milan. That was my team growing up."

Following AC Milan these days has been a challenge for Bryant with his schedule, but he says it's getting easier with the increase in Internet coverage and soccer channels.

Bryant attended the Brazil vs. Japan World Cup match this summer in Germany with his wife. He now hopes to attend an AC Milan match.

"To this day, I've never seen my team, AC Milan, play in person," Bryant said. "My mother never let me go to games in Europe. She'd say, `No, it's too violent. What happens if the fans go crazy and (you get) squished up against the fence?'"

On Saturday, Bryant emceed Nike's pep rally for FC Barcelona in Los Angeles. Bryant was unable to participate in the event's soccer activities because of a recent knee surgery, but he insists he can "still put it in the net."

Bryant and Barcelona star Ronaldinho met for the first time on stage at the event and exchanged phone numbers.

Imagine if Bryant met Ronaldinho under different circumstances this summer. Not on a stage in Hollywood, but on the world's biggest soccer stage in Germany.

"If myself, Tracy McGrady, and LeBron James had a soccer ball at our feet instead of a basketball at 2 years old, with our size, it could have been something," Bryant said. "If we had played soccer all our lives, I think (the U.S. soccer team) would have been pretty potent."

Infact 1 of the most interesting things on Fox Soccer Channel. If you watch an EPL game as opposed to serie A. there is so much more noise, the commentators are more excited, it is presented in a more thrilling way, that makes the casual fan believe its more exciting, thus better

That is ABSOLUTELY true. I live in the states too and the presentation of EPL games versus Serie A games on FSC is almost incomparable. EPL games have nice bright, crisp pictures with stellar sound that makes the game feel like a HUGE event. Serie A games have virtually no crowd noise and you get the sense you are watching some amateur league where the stands are virtually empty. I figured that the telecasts of Serie A that are sent to FSC are mic'd in such a way that there just is no crowd noise. But what is interesting is that i once watched a serie A game on FSC and then changed it to Fox espanol where the same game was broadcast with spanish speaking commentators. The crowd noise was deafening! So why is it that FSC plays silent broadcasts???

Regardless of crowd noise though, EPL really grabs American attention because telecasts are much more polished. And it sounds like FSC will soon be broadcasting EPL in high def, something I don't see happening for Serie A anytime soon. Serie A needs to take a good look at the EPL's TV presenation. I'm not speaking of style of play, I'm talking about the actual coverage. EPL comes across as top shelf while Serie A seems amateurish. The empty stands in Serie A don't help either.

Yeah I guess Arshavin is just tired... I do think we need another attacking midfielder...

But as I said before, Arshavin is a non-EU player, and we can only get one non-EU player signing (being Adebayor if that works out). So we'll have to settle for Ronaldinho or another attacking midfielder/second striker.

But Ronaldinho is an attacking midfielder... Ronaldinho should be a sub for Seedorf, not Inzaghi or Pato... meaning it would be wise to still have another forward that being Adebayor...

Think about it...we play 4 midfielders. Kaka and Pirlo are already two of those 4 and CANNOT defend. Add Ronaldinho and that's THREE than can't defend. Nor will Kaka and Ronaldinho do much tracking back or anything. It wouldn't be a good balance.

Well the only thing we could possibly do is put Ronaldinho as a sub for Kaka or Seedorf. That's how I would see it working with Ronaldinho. But that still doesn't detract from the fact we need a real CF.

Hmmm. Im starting to wonder whether Galliani might be telling the truth. If we get both R10 and Ade, then what happens with Pato, Pippo, and Boriello? Our formation requires 2 AM's and 1 Striker---if R10 signs, then our AM's will invariably be Kaka and R10, with Seedorf maybe slipping to a midfield role or warming the bench. If Ade signs, then he is our lone striker, but then what about the rest of our so-called "champions"? Wouldnt like to see them rot on the bench.

Maybe, just maybe, it might be better to get R10 and play Pato as our lone striker and alternate him with Boriello while reserving Pippo for the "big" moments. Oh well, you gotta love the silly season. :)

That's not necessarily true. We could play a 4-4-2 formation. Or even the risky 4-3-3 formation... also it's good to have at least 4 strikers (Pato, Borriello, Adebayor and Inzaghi)... so we don't put so much pressure on them all. No one is asking anyone to rot on the bench. If anything, if we don't have enough strikers, if one gets injured, we could have a crisis.

Not only that we'll have enough energy for the three tournaments we should go for (of course the domestic title, coppa italia and UEFA Cup). I mean most other teams have at least four strikers, why shouldn't we?

If we had more forwards we wouldn't have to play 4-5-1. 4-5-1 is risky anyways as the lone striker has to be in good condition... and not only that it puts all the pressure on that one striker to perform. Best to have four strikers, not just three. So if we want to make a substitute and a game isn't working out for us, we could send out another striker, not just Emerson or sometihng.

No more lone striker formations for me. Lets take a risk.

I'm about to go sleep so I won't write a lengthy post but even with a 2 striker system which I believe we'll be playing next season, if we buy Ronaldinho + CF, it's IMPOSSIBLE to keep all our midfielders and strikers happy, unless we do a steroid-enhanced-Benitez-rotation system. Don't forget all our central midfielders plus Ronaldinho and Kaka who won't appreciate being put on the bench too often.

So in your 4-4-2, who are the midfielders and who are the strikers? Same question for the 4-3-3.

I'm for Adebayor and Pato playing often... and Inzaghi could focus on the UEFA Cup...

I really don't think 4-5-1 is a good idea. I'll have to think about the midfielder question a bit. I have said that our midfield is getting a bit crowded, and we should focus only on a forward right now. Why I only view Ronaldinho as a substitute for Seedorf and nothing more. This also means players like Emerson and Brocchi should be sold because they'll get little playing time.

Seriously, my question is why do we have to keep on playing with only one striker? And why can't we have four strikers? What happens if we get into another injury crisis?

I'd rather go with more players, than just merely adequate... it adds to depth.

I believe Ronaldinho would be a better fit in our team than Ade. I say that because I consider Dinho an inbetweener AM and FW. Dinho would give us much more flexibility in our lineups. We could play with Kaka and Dinho as AMs, with a lone striker of Pato/Borriello/Inzaghi. If Kaka needs a rest, Dinho could play the AM with Pato alongside Borriello/Inzaghi as a second FW. Assuming we have to choose between either Dinho or Ade, then Dinho really gives us something that we sorely lacked last year - depth. We'd have a superstar for every position up front in Carlo's preferred formation of 4-3-2-1 while still having great flexibility to play 4-3-1-2 to help rest players or cover in case of injury.

I wish we could get both Ade and Dinho, but let's be realistic - that's a lot of money devoted to just our striking and I really see us needing to fill in holes at other positions - most importantly GK. Let's sign Dinho (which has to be cheaper than Ade at this point) and spend some money on Boruc (give them money and Simic), sign a left back to cover the always injured Janku, pick up another CB to fill in as a replacement for Simic (Ferrari would be good enough) and get Cigarini for the future.

If we play 2 strikers and 4 defenders then there are 4 midfielders. For this position we have the following(according to your scheme):

Pirlo, Ambro, Gattuso, Flamini, Emerson, Brocchi, Abate(maybe),Seedorf, Kaka, R10

Please tell me how you plan on making that work ? Especially given the fact that Carlo ALWAYS plays Pirlo and Kaka ?

Seedorf is who I see dropping to the bench for R10....

We can play any two (except Boriello + Pippo) strikers, with Kaka and R10 as the 2 AMs, Pirlo as usual, and one of Rino, Flamini or Max.

Pirlo will have more defensive duties yes, but if we play with a more conservative WB, like Bonera, who will not join the attack much, and we play an attack minded LB, who does overlap, I think we can maintain the balance we need to secure wins.

I'm for selling Emerson and Brocchi. I feel they contribute very little to the team. I think that Seedorf can be substituted by Ronaldinho...

Pirlo, Ambro, Flamini/Gattuso, Kaka... or for a more attack minded line up... Pirlo, Ronaldinho/Seedorf, Flamini, Kaka..

I just don't see why Milan should play with 4-5-1, especially considering this formation did not work for us this previous season.

BTW, as far as Antonini is concerned... he can play as a left back and has shown to be effective with that.

This was what I was expecting you to say all along. Your first formation:

Pirlo on the left flank would be a disaster, he has neither the pace nor the power to play as a winger. The central midfield offers absolutely no creativity (maybe a little with Flamini). And what happens with R10 and Seedorf. Both on the bench?

Your second formation:

Absolutely disastrous. We will lose all games 10-0 with that sort of midfield. All attacking players except for Flamini.

The only solution I see is: a) We get R10 only and play as RUsso-neri very nicely explained, or b) We get Ade only and play with Kaka and Pato as our AM's with Seedorf either slotting in MF or on the bench and Boriello/Pippo as subs for Ade.

Wow. I did not put those players in any particular order. 10-0? You're criticisms are unjustified, harsh and carry no basis around here. Why the hell should we play 4-5-1 when it was this very formation that failed us badly throughout this season?

What were you expecting me to say all along?

Seriously. Read up some. You can't even get the fact that Pato isn't an attacking midfielder. Playing with one striker simply won't cut it anymore.

With your formation, I won't be surprised if we end up in 7th place or something.

Regarding our MFs, here's how I see our team working. We will play with at least one AM which would leave 3 spots for MFs. We have 4 players that I consider world class for those three spots - Pirlo, Gattuso, Ambro and Flamini. I agree with getting rid of Brocchi or Emerson and making way for a more pure two way MF to rest Pirlo every once in awhile (Cigarini!!!).

We would play with either 1 or 2 AM and we have three players for these positions - Kaka, Dinho and Seedorf. I think we're seeing a phasing out of Seedorf in our starting XI if we sign Dinho.

Then we'd have 4 strikers to choose from to fill our 1 or 2 FW spots - Borriello, Pato, Inzaghi and Paloschi (who can't leave if Dinho comes).

In hindsight, I actually think our biggest mistake this offseason was resigning Borriello. We should have sold him when his stock was so high after the seasion he had at Genoa and used that money to get a player like Ade. Imagine a team with Dinho and Kaka as well as Pato, Ade and Inzaghi!!!

Oh, and did I mention we need to sign Boruc RIGHT AWAY?!?!?

Dude, have you really been following MIlan over the last 5 years? We have been playing 2 basic formations: 4-3-1-2 with Rui Costa or Kaka as the AM and Sheva/Pippo as our strikers. More recently and particularly since the sale of Sheva, Carlo has swapped to the 4-3-2-1 formation with Seedorf and Kaka as the AM's and a lone striker, most effective being Pippo. If Pato plays our formation becomes the above one with Pato stepping in where Sheva left. What's so hard to understand?

If we play a 4-4-2, then we need some solid midfielders in the center plus wingers on the left and right. If Carlo insists on using Pirlo, I can't see how the 4-4-2 would work, as defensively Pirlo is always a liability and without Gattuso/Ambro cleaning up for him, we'd be shipping goals. Personally, I'd love a 4-4-2 with DInho on the left and Kaka on the right and Flamini/Gattuso at the center. But then what do we do with Pirlo? He's too good and too influential to be dropped.

While I love Inzaghi and Pato, I have some issues with our current bank of strikers. Pato has some finishing issues and can be inconsistent at times. Pippo like it or not is getting older and will be playing less games, in fact I think he should be saved for UEFA Cup games, because he specializes in that. That's where Adebayor can come in... helping us win the scudetto.

As I say, lets beef up the attack and take chances. We are beefing up the defensive back four, so playing with two defensive midfielders may no longer be necessary.

So yes I agree with you.

Now, back on topic--dont get me wrong, I'd love to have both Ade and Dinho here and every other top player for that matter, but I dont want to see the likes of Pato (who is a phenom) and Boriello (who we spent a good deal of money on to bring back) rot on the bench, that's all. I mean if we didnt get Boriello back, then that's one thing. And if we get another trequartista (R10) we will have between 3-4 strikers: Pato, Pippo, Boriello, Kaka/R10--both can play as striker as well. Now if you add Adebayor or Drogba to that mix, then I think we have too many players for one position. I think the choice should be either Adebayor or R10. If you ask me honestly, I would probably go for Adebayor because he is exactly what we have needed and have been missing ever since Crespo left and Gila arrived.

I don't get how you are getting to one thing from the other. You're thinking if I'm in favor of bringing in a forth striker for this team I'm in favor of letting other players rot on the bench? It's interesting you use that ridiculous terminology. No one here is personally attacking you or advocating letting players rot on the bench.

Our strike force is simply not strong enough and we need one more striker. That's all I want. Even if we don't get another attacking midfielder. But may need a sub for Seedorf (or vice versa). Yes, this is a place where grown-ups discuss football. But you made some very personal claims about me saying I don't know what I'm talking about and haven't been watching it. When will I learn? Rephrase that. When will you learn? You made this personal and it certainly wasn't. You attacked my knowledge on whether I've watched games in the past few years (and I have). 4-3-1-2 all the way. That's my opinion.

I'd love to have both Ade and Dinho here and every other top player for that matter, but I dont want to see the likes of Pato (who is a phenom) and Boriello (who we spent a good deal of money on to bring back) rot on the bench, that's all. No one is advocating letting them rot on the bench, and personally I'm only really in favor of getting Adebayor. If we get Adebayor none of those strikers will rot on the bench if we play 4-3-1-2 more often. it's best to have 4 strikers, as Inzaghi can be kept as our UEFA Cup specialist. That would leave Pato, Borriello and Adebayor. You're not listening to what a lot of us are saying.

We shouldn't play unproductive 4-5-1 formations in simple league games... take risks I say! Heck, the 4-5-1 formation is basically why our league position was so weak. It's fine in certain tournaments, but not for the entire league. It's put way too much pressure on Kaka and Seedorf all the time.

Pirlo can defend, he even do it well. He also work and run more than anyone but Gattuso.

Of course Oddo & Janku would go for Ade. He might be the only one who cn make their crosses look good. As for Seedorf, who would replace him in team - R10, who could take the number he's failing with - R10.

I'd take R10 over Adebayor - shirt sales alone should be good, tactically dimension are added with either playing 3 brazilian up front, and having 7 players in rotation for forwards area - Kaka, Pato, R10, Seedorf, Borreillo, Inzaghi, Abate.

As for def solidity we still imo need a better keeper, and hope we sign Zapata. If we add R10, keeper, Zapata, and remove Simic, Brocchi, Emerson I'd be happy for this campaign.

why do we need 2 dm's? no other top club really plays w/ 2 as consistant as us.
Actually, the Inter of the last 2 seasons and Capello's Juve were much more defensive than Milan and they always used 2 dm's in their formation.
Capello didn't start a single match without Emerson-Vieira and without his 4-4-2 consisted of 2 Dm's, 2 wingers and 2 attackers. Even more, the wingers Nedved and Camoranesi are very good in defending and Juve always had 8 players defending.
Mancini did the same thing in 2006/07 with Vieira-Cambiasso as dm's while last season on half of the matches Inter had Zanetti-Cambiasso-Chivu in midfield and apart from some 5-6 matches where they played 4-3-1-2 with Jimenez as AMC, they also played 4-4-2 all the time with only the 2 strikers not defending.

Teams with the best attack rarely win serie A, but teams that conceed less than the others almost always win the league. It happened this year also with Juve and Roma both scoring more goals than Inter but Inter had the best defense by far conceding only 26 goals, eleven goals less than the second best defense, Juve's. It happened in 2006 when Milan scored 13 gols more than Juve but conceded much more than them etc etc.

In Europe it doesn't work that way and a defensive 4-4-2 won't bring you anything, but in Italy it seems to be the only winning combination lately.

Ronaldinho, Eto'o And Deco Choose Clubs ??!

Deco, it is said, will reunite with former Portuguese national team boss Luiz Felipe Scolari at Chelsea - a deal that suits all three parties involved down to the ground.

Ronaldinho, meanwhile, was also linked with Chelsea, but the Blues have cooled their interest in the Brazilian. Manchester City, meanwhile, once led the race for the ex-PSG man, but since then they have dropped further back.

AC Milan, then, are the front-runners. Despite the fact that both they and Barcelona differ over the asking price for Ronnie AC Milan are said to be in pole position, although this could necessitate the player's taking a pay cut.

Samuel Eto'o is greatly admired by Internazionale boss José Mourinho, and with club president Massimo Moratti this morning announcing that signing a prestigious attacker was on the agenda, his path to the San Siro seems clear

"Adebayor can do one as far as i'm concerned. He's had one decent season for us, and is probably the least skillful player in our starting 11. £30m seems like a bargain, as long as Mr Wenger actually gets to use some of the money. And we all know that no player who leaves Arsenal is ever as good again. Look at Anelka, Henry, Cole etc. Cash in now i say! "

I was looking at the same thing. Those fans are hoping that we buy him for that price so that they could get David Villa and he turns out to be their personal Torres.

We are throwing a ton of money at Arsenal for this guy.

I agree to a certain extent. If he was Berbatov or a more proven striker I would okay with it. But by giving this much for Ade, we are taking money away from another position that may also need attention and Ade may not perform as we would like.

But I do agree overspending is better than the alternative.

Galliani said that the possibility of signing Adebayor is very less and we have focussed our campaign on signing Ronaldinho, again.

http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=753779

Does anyone think that this (Milan going after Adebayor) is a tactic used by Galliani to make Barcelona sell us Ronaldinho for cheap? I remember that galiani had used this similar tactic against an Italian club who were unwilling to lower the price of some player we wanted. I think it was Oddo from Lazio. Does anyone think this is what is happening in the Ronaldinho-Adebayor saga?

Bronzetti says that Milan have never given up on Dinho and he talked to Dinho last night, who reiterated his desire for Milan. Only Milan.
He then told Dinho to talk to Galliani, which he did and Dinho said 'don't believe the gossip about me. Believe the good things Kaka says."
In the end Bronzetti believes Dinho will arrive, and maybe even a goalkeeper.

I insist we do not need Dinho + Striker. Dinho has played as support striker in his latter years at Barcelona and done extremely well there. If he comes here he'll still have the striker mentality and therefore will neglect defensive duties. We cannot have him + Kaka in the midfield because that gives us a weak midfield. This is why I count Dinho as a striker...I'm not going mad like Galliani ( Seedorf a striker...LOL). A formation like this simply won't work:

Keeper; Back 4; Pirlo, Gattuso, R10, Kaka; 2 strikers

When we played 4-3-1-2 we had Seedorf who was able to run up and down and help on both sides of the pitch. Before Giancarlo jumps on me again, YES I want to play with 2 strikers. I just count Dinho as one. Let me make it clear though that we MUST get at least 1 striker.

Milano84
27-06-2008, 10:59

In Europe it doesn't work that way and a defensive 4-4-2 won't bring you anything, but in Italy it seems to be the only winning combination lately.

actually i disagree with you. If you look at serie A last 5 years. Team thats scored most or 2nd most goals has won league. Last year inter had 3 less goals than juve/roma.... but that did go down to the last day. Year before inter scored 80. Year before juve had 2nd most to milan... there also, they won barely (3 pt diferential).. could keep going.
But my point more so is you need to know you can score consistently. something our 4-3-2-1 with current personnel cannot do.

The juve team you speak of did play alot back, but they could alll go forward. emerson (then) and viera are ALOT more adepth offensively than gattuso and ambrosini. Nedved and camorenesi's offensive prowless is well documented. (Obviously i dont need to speak of your forwards)... i get your point...but i'd rather see milan play w/ 2 strikers and 2 AMs, atleast to start...

even when nedved and camorenesi drop to defend, they never really did hard defending. They werent consistently dropping to the box etc. more just along the wings. There is no reason ronaldinho, kaka, seedorf shouldnt be able to do this....

And more so on the 2 DM point, even though pirlo isnt one, he is deployed as a DM so we r playing w/ 3. The milan teams with sheva typically deployed only gattuso, pirlo next to them a more box to box mf like seedorf. Then kaka/rui costa...sheva/inzaghi upfront. so much more dynamic.

I dont see why everyone is concerned on keeping the 4-3-2-1 tactic. It won us a champions league on luck, and kaka playing out of his mind. Its never even come close to giving us consistent league form

we have strikers, Boriello, Inzaghi, Pato.

Pato is going to be a great player, and hence needs the games to g better, signing another striker, may reduce his role. though i am up for anotrher striker, i can understand why we never got one.

Don't you understand this is simply not enough? Why should we only have three strikers, when most other teams have far more than that? I think a fourth striker is necessary... what if we have another injury crisis?

If this is the case we do not buy another striker, then we will have to keep Paloschi as the forth striker and not loan him out. That may be another idea... but are these players really consistent enough? I don't see why Pato's role would have to be reduced.. we would just play with two strikers... that's all.

I woke up and found this news... I mean yes I often do defend the management... but they have priorities wrong here. Forget Ronaldinho for a minute, and lets a striker. And heck, maybe we should get Hernanes from Sao Paolo FC...

But what should be at the top of our list is a real forward. Not a second striker, but a real forward.

I thought Seedorf was fine, but he needs to be rested for major tournaments and he can play every now and then in major domestic games... that's why while I'm in favor of getting another attacking midfielder, our mind should be focused on a new CF.

We have 2 out and out strikers in Inzaghi & Borreillo, another who can play as striker in Pato as well as playing as a deep forward, along with Kaka. IMO to sign a pure striker we need creative players to assist him, with better wing players, and through passing but to sign a player like Ronaldinho we get a player who can get 20 goals circa plus lay on quiet a few more too, operates wide, comes short, basically on form a complete attacker. With Kaka havnig less pressure to deliver with his arrival, Pato should perform better this season, and Borreillo/Inzaghi will get a good look in, and hopefully Abate will get a few appearances too. I think R10 would make our forward line more complete than Adebayor at a cheap price, and with more shirt sales, and media awareness too, something that Berlu craves.

Don't forget Seedorf only played AM in the Christmas Tree formation. Now that I assume we're switching back to 4-3-1-2, Seedorf will be backup for Kaka because he doesn't want to play his old role anymore. Hence I don't think we really need a new AM. I think we need a creative central midfielder. I'm all for Cigarini but what do I know.

If we don not solve "Seedorf" issue next season we will have big problems during the long year. Seedorf is absolute top class player but he is no longer capable of playing 40 games per season. Seedorf now needs to be used Rui Costa was, for quality and not quantity. The season will be long and we will play UEFA ( on THURSDAY's!), sundays and coppa. There will be a lot of games and Kaka', Ronaldinho and Seedorf can all be used rightly. not overused like this year ( Kaka' and Clarence ). If we play Seedorf for 40 games again he will produce nothing, the same he did in most of his games this year. He has been playing pro football since he was 16, its normal.

Ronaldinho is absolutely the most talented player alive ( only ronaldo Luis Nazario da Lima the Great has more feel, but he has no knees...). Playing Ronaldinho-Kaka'-Pato is enough attacking power for any imaginable team, in any case. Or problem is that Pato is still only a boy, Pippo is 35 and boriello is not good enough for Milan, next season will show it - again.

Mixed messages over Adebayor's Arsenal pledge

Emmanuel Adebayor's future at Arsenal - and a possible move to AC Milan or Barcelona - looks set to be decided next week.

Adebayor and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger have been in Austria this week for the latter stages of Euro 2008 but the pair have not spoken yet, with discussions due next week.

'I have three-year contract with Arsenal but I have a lot of clubs interested in me,' said Adebayor on Sky Sports News.

'At the moment we are just going to sit down and talk next week and decide what to do. At the moment I have a three-year contract at Arsenal and I have a lot of clubs interested in me.'

When asked if he could still go to Milan, he said: 'We will decide next week.'

There were mixed messages from the 24-year-old Togo striker when he attended a function for manufacturers adidas.

He did insist at a press conference, 'I'm staying at Arsenal', but then told broadcasters his future will be decided next week on his return to London.

Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf believes Adebayor has already made up his mind.

He told Setanta Sports News: 'When I spoke with him I said 'I'm waiting for you'. Let's see what will happen.

'He already said he would come, but it depends now on Arsenal.

'If he leaves Arsenal, it's a done deal. He comes to Milan.'

Whatever the outcome, Adebayor insists money would never be a motivating factor if he were to move clubs.

Arsenal would stand to make a substantial profit if they were to sell the striker that netted 30 goals for them last season, and Adebayor himself would also expect to see his wages increase.

However, the former Monaco striker said: 'When I was young I had a dream to be a good footballer and play for a big team.

'I was born in Togo so I never cared about playing for money, my happiness was to play to enjoy myself. That's what I've been doing until now.

'You can see people changing clubs because of money, because they want a change of atmosphere or to get their names in the big leagues. I just play football to enjoy myself. I play because I love it.'

While his situation may change when he meets Wenger, Adebayor has revealed his determination to win a trophy with the group of players Wenger has put together.

He said: 'You have a chance to play in a team where everyone is between 21 and 26 years old, we are all the same generation. We all have the same ideas, we go out together after games to restaurants.

'We all have the same ideas and we all want to achieve something. We have a good boss, which is Arsene Wenger, he tries to bring this atmosphere to the dressing room where we feel like brothers and like family.

'Those are the reasons that gives us a chance to play the football we play. We play good football, now we look forward to winning trophies.'

One of Arsenal's family could be starting in the Euro 2008 final, should Luis Aragones choose to field Cesc Fabregas in place of the injured David Villa.

Adebayor said: 'Whenever Cesc has been given a chance to come in he has shown his character and his good personality. He showed what we know about him - he's calm on the ball, he took the last penalty and scored it in the quarter-final.

'He has a coach who has to make a decision, he is the person who knows why Cesc starts on the bench. I would love to see him start at the beginning of the game.

'The coach has his own reason and the most important thing is that when he comes in he plays good football.'

It has been one of the long-running on-off transfer sagas of the summer, and Emmanuel Adebayor’s possible move from Arsenal to Milan has taken yet another twist.

The Togolese hitman has been strongly linked with a summer move to both Milan and Barcelona, and the Italians in particular have made no secret of their desire to bring him to San Siro.

Earlier today Adebayor appeared to have ended all the transfer speculation when he pledged his immediate future to the Gunners.

"Yes of course [I am staying], I have three more years contract so whatever happens I have to stay. I am staying at Arsenal," he declared.

However in a sensational turnaround, just an hour later, Adebayor then stated that there was a chance he could leave.

“When I spoke with him I said ‘I’m waiting for you’," Seedorf told Setanta Sports News.

“Let’s see what will happen. They’re [the press] talking about Adebayor and (Didier) Drogba. It’s not concrete, it’s a lot of talk. He’s a great player and he will definitely be important if he comes.

“He already said that he would come, but it depends now on Arsenal if he stays there otherwise he comes to Milan.”

The transfer soap opera continues…

There was a comparison between Ronaldo & Messi (you know how the media love to do these idiotic head to heads) when their teams met in the CL. Both had scored the same amount of goals (5 i think) but it took Ronaldo 3 times as many shots!

Dru, are you officially in mourning now Quaresma has (according to Portugese press) joined Inter? :D Nevermind mate, maybe he'll join the list of players leaving Inter for Milan

i think seedorf was crap last year. I think he is useful, but he will be 33. He is SLOW, and in majority of games he doesnt run. when will milan management realize, not everyone is maldini or costacurta playing will into mid late 30s.... most players see a major decline once they pass 30 (gattuso for 1 on our squad)

My criticism of Seedorf is that he just runs out of gas and can't be relied upon as a starter. You are correct, he's not as fast as he used to be, but his stamina is more of an issue (at least for me). Plus like I always said this past season - he's wildly inconsistant. One game he looks like the best MF in the world, the next 20 he's nothing. Coming off the bench, Seedorf would be a TERROR for other teams (and at the same time keep Kaka going for a couple of extra years).

Quaresma is not as good as you people think, i love to watch him on youtube, and also in some games, as he add a little excitement, and he has a huge amount of potential, but he has never come up big in CL, or for Portugal either, during a actual match, not friendly.

I don't see why Pato's role would have to be reduced.. we would just play with two strikers... that's all.

i didnt say we never needed another striker, i just said i think another striker, expecially a star striker, may reduce pato's time, expecially if we play with two attackers, R10 and KAKA.

Ronaldinho is officially a striker...he's the striker that was supposed to replace Ronaldo....however it turns out that he wasn't a good #9 as he was a # 10......Kaka was generally always a midfielder but in the 2007 and for parts of 08 Ancelotti played him as a striker...a #7 (raul, $heva, CR7 if you will)

BOTH are termed forwards

More worrisome to me is Inter's potential lineup:

--------Caesar--------
Maicon-Chivu-Cordoba-Maxwell
------Cambiasso-------
Quaresma-----Mancini
-------Lampard--------
--Zlatan-------Adriano--

Subs:
Zanetti
Vieria
Suazo
Balotelli
Jimenez
Cruz
Toldo

Is it me or does Inter look like somebody's Playstation Fifa 08 lineup

Let's be fair guys Inter is Inter and we all hate them but this squad on paper (note I said on paper) BLOWS ours out of the water any day. Hopefully we'll actually get Ronaldinho and I'll be able to continue posting why I love Inter so much after we beat the crap out of their fantasy team :5inter:

I'll absolutely disagree with that. Last time we had Inter on its behind... but to counter any acquisition Inter makes, I'm in favor of a strong forward.

i disagree with this part. The same way we think dinho will rehit form. inter fans believe adriano will for mourinho. Mourinho had opportunity to dump him but didnt, because he realizes the talent and ithink he'll get him to play.

In the inter-milan game they were missing zlatan and cordoba. say what u want. but if we were w/o kaka and nesta, we'd be up toilet creek too. Not taking anything away from us. but i also realize they were missing 2 very important peices

They had other players to cover including Ballotelli. I believe even with the out-of-form Zlatan and Cordoba, Inter's backline would still be weak (with Materazzi playing very poorly). You know that second goal I believe was the fault of Vieira?

I'm not so sure about Adriano. There are better players than him.

----------------cesar-------------

Which is EXTREMLY brilliant linaup under a coach that is 56 times better coach then Mancini and gets the best out of his players ( playershe choosaes, not that Abramovic buys for himself). We can lie to ourselves but that is the truth.

I don't know if you followed him in serie A, but his Toulon form was only a continuance of his serie A form. He took over from Balli and did much better than the veteran.

Volkan Demirel, UE player. Not cheap, anyway the price is reasonable.

Turkey is NOT EU yet. Correct me if I'm wrong. But if you want to spend your non-EU spot for this season for a GK, Akinfeev would be a more reasonable choice.

I thnik that's his preferred line-up. IMO Kalac will be number one. And also Seedorf refuses to play in midfield anymore. Flamini/Ambro & Gattuso will rotate 2 roles, and if Oddo regains any form, I'd switch Zambro to left, and it would strengthen the team as Janku can't defend.

wont happen for many reasons

A) his price will be over inflated after the Euros has done due to his goals scored
B) We wouldnt spend 80 million euros on him, Galliani is arguing the price of 30 million euros for dinho so why would he spend all that on a striker that could do his leg the next week in training?
C) David Villa would rather go to the EPL as he would want the money not the pride of playing for us i think.

Dude, thats his personal opinion(his dream team). If he feels that Rinho(Milan hero for the last 7 years) should start over flamini,I think its normal. And playing Pato on the left of trident attacking midfielder is nothing to be surprised, Pato is fast, great dribbler, good long shot and can penetrate easily from the left.

Imo his much better as an support striker than a Alone striker.

Jim_UK
28-06-2008, 05:32
Ancelotti's dream team should remain a dream as it would get ripped apart by any decent side. There's no defensive 'steel' in that side at all, we would just have to hope we score more than the opposition do!

The more sensible option is to drop Seedorf & Pato as neither are suited to the positions they'd find themselves in and put Flamini & Boriello in their places.

Nevermind Dru, the deal could always fall through but if not just keep drinking :drunk:  ;)

It's not that i find Inter signing (probably signing) Lampard a surprise, it's the price ... i mean £7.5 million is a steal! A player of his quality for that price is a bargain and at a time when we need to be careful with the purse strings, it's a shame we didn't go for him. Obviously the odds are in Inter's favour with Mourinho, but you never know what might have happened.

Oh well, one thing they have in common is, that they are both overrated..

Ronaldinho rumours are once again surfacing.
I used to be a bit sceptical about his transfer, but when I think of it, I am becoming more and more enthousiastic.
If Ronaldinho would, after all, come then we'd be forced to drop Seedorf.
Carlo will have to use rotation based on this formation imo :

------------------Kalac-----------------
--Bonera---Nesta---Kaladze-----Zambro--
-----------------------------------------
-------Gattuso-------------Flamini-------
-------------------Pirlo------------------
-----------------------------------------
-----------Kaka----------Ronaldinho------
-----------------------------------------
-----------------Inzaghi-----------------

First of all, we will have to change the tactics in our main line-up.

No more upcoming backs! Bonera and Zambrotta provide us with some good defending in the back, on rare occasions they can still come forward.(something they can both do) Without upcoming backs, Gattuso and Flamini can focus on winning balls in the midfield and protecting Pirlo, with Flamini and Pirlo covering the creative aspect in mid-midfield.

Kaka and Ronaldinho get the balls and create a fast attack with a solo-run, a cross from the flanks or a deep ball through. Inzaghi is there to tap it in.
Adebayor or Eto'o would make it sweeter though..

If Kaka/Ronnie are tired or absent, we use the 2-striker formation with Pato as support striker. This time we use the famous upcoming-backs-tactic and diamond midfield with Pirlo having a bit of a defensive role.

------------------Kalac----------------------
-----------Nesta--------Kaladze-------------
--Zambro--------------------------Janku-----
----------------------------------------------
--------------------Pirlo----------------------
---------Gattuso-----------Flamini------------
----------------------------------------------
-------------------Kaka----------------------
----------------------------------------------
----------Pato--------------------------------
-----------------------Inzaghi-----------------

You can all figure out the replacements.
The fun begins when you start adding players like Abate into these formations.

These are just my thoughts, I'll keep on dreaming and playing PES. There are probably some errors in my formations too. :lazy:
Also, there is already one thing impossible : Seedorf will never sit on the bench. :( Sigh..

Cheers!

mrki
28-06-2008, 06:52
The key to our good season is the man with teeth! :) Ronaldinho!

That way Seedorf would get bench role ( like it or not ) and he will now be able to perform at higher level then in past 2 years.

Someone mantioned that Milan's side will be stronger with Boruc-Bonera-Nesta-Zapata-Zambrotta, playing, then Inters...it would, but we didnt sign those palyers. So didnt Inter with the players I wrothe, but they 90% will.

Adebayor is a smart move if its possible. We need to have in mind that Inzaghi will be injured for some time ( its just unknown right now for how long...he is 35! ), Boriello is not as good as he did last year. In real rotation sistem we can use all those palyers and play Seedorf sometimes as a CM, and FLamini as a DM...rest Pirlo, rest KAka', mix Pato and Adebayor.

So the real quastion is: Is there any possibility Milan goes crazy any buyd Adebayor AND Ronaldinho?

Milan are struggling to overcome Arsenal’s £31m price-tag for Emmanuel Adebayor and therefore turning their attention back towards Barcelona outcast Ronaldinho, although that will take some tactical reshuffling from the Coach.

“We agreed to sign either a striker or a Trequartista. It makes no difference to me, we’d just change the system,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“If we sign a centre-forward, then we’ll play the 4-3-1-2. Otherwise it’ll be the classic ‘Christmas Tree’ formation, a 4-3-2-1, which we know well and has given us a great deal of success.”

This was the system used in 2002-03 when the Rossoneri lifted both the Champions League and the Coppa Italia.

“Aside from the tactics, it is a question of studying the movement of the three forwards. Pippo Inzaghi and Marco Borriello have the characteristics to stay up there alone, but Pato does not.

“This means he would have to adapt and learn many new things. He is young, so I don’t think there will be problems in that sense. It will take time, but he’ll do it, I can guarantee that.

“Kaka is the best player in the world, so I wouldn’t dream of changing his position or characteristics. Kaka will do what he always has done, following his instinct and his quality.”

Seedorf complained last season when he was forced into wide midfield positions, but with Ronaldinho coming in would be pushed out yet again.

“Seedorf is an intelligent man and a very useful player,” noted Ancelotti. “He can play as a Trequartista and a pure midfielder. There are no problems.”

The midfield has also been reinforced with the arrival of Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer from Arsenal, while the Coach assures Emerson has overcome his injury woes.

The defence was the shakiest area of Milan’s squad last term, but there is only one big signing, Gianluca Zambrotta from Barcelona.

“He is a great full-back who can play on the right or the left. He’s not exactly young, but he is very reliable. On the left we have Marek Jankulovski as well as Giuseppe Favalli, while Massimo Oddo has the opportunity to prove himself on the right after a below par campaign.

“Plus we have brought back Luca Antonini, a youngster who really impressed when out on loan and is a valuable alternative for defence or midfield.”

As Milan are out of the Champions League, the club must inevitably turn its attention towards recapturing the Scudetto for the first time since 2003-04.

“It is our primary objective. We all want to prove ourselves after missing out on Europe and nobody liked that turn of events. It will be an unusual year and we’ll fight on three fronts – Serie A, the UEFA Cup and Coppa Italia. Milan will be centre stage.”

i don't find the ancelotti formation any sane .... if he gets rony he will play christmas tree and with pato alone upfront we lose physical presence ... but if we get ade we play 4-3-1-2 and with kaka serving pato and adebayor ... it's adream coming true

"In Kaka's father and 2 milan managers in Brazil" thread, our friend Brasiliero explained few times that Pato is at his best playing near the goal, as pure forward, not seconda punta. That is why he was compared to Romario, not Bebeto in Brasil. I hope Ancelotti will play Pato as a forward in front of KAka'-Dinho eventually, becouse the instinct for goal that Pato has in somthing rare to be seen. The fact he is not as biog as Drogba means nothing. He is fast, has brilliant technique, super shot with both legs, can head well and reads game with instinct ( same thing KAka' does when he transforms positions...).

"Seedorf is a smart man" - that is the part I love. Clarence can be usel greatly and keep his quality and digniti, but only if he plays smaller amount of games next year.

EDIT:

to a post above: We dont need phisical presence. We have Gattuso, Flamini/Ambrosini and Pirlo in the middle. With NEsta, Zambrotta, Kaladze and ( preferably one more fullback )... KAka'-Ronaldinho-Pato can hide a ball for half an hour if they want to! We didnt have phisical presence with KAka'-Rui-Sheva, and we played our best football. Brains outplay the muscles always.

mrki, Carlo's comments imo mean not that Pato won't play up front as a first striker, but rather he will rely on support (hence talk about the movement of the three forwards). Borriello due to his physique is better at holding off defenders whilst Inzaghi is a poacher who doesn't look to play off others like Pato.

My only real disappointment in Carlo's interview is the lack of mention of Bonera. Janku has not impressed in the slightest at LB and Oddo was an embarrassment last season. I simply cannot comprehend how Bonera isn't really considered.

Seedorf to Premier League?

I'd say offer Seedorf as part of the payment for Adebayor, and sign Ronaldinho as well.

I would also prefer that Seedorf should zip-up. He is nothing to dictate to the administration that he would leave if Dinho comes. No player is bigger than Milan, which is the case for other clubs. Either he leaves the administration to do what is good for the club or be offered to any foreign club.
If you dont want Dinho to come then you have to put up more effort. You must be open to competition if you want to have a startting lineup in Milan.
I hope we will get both Dinho and Adebayor/Drogba.

It would be a great shame and Milan would need another player to cover for Seedorf. Our stranght needs to be long and strong bench and if we loose Clarence we are back where we were last year. The player that could fill the rotation role in maybe Schwainstaiger. But Bayern will not sell him. Seedorf needs to realise he will become a rotation player and that is it, there is no chaos or nothing, its normal.

I would also like to present one more possibility for Milan that I think could be used extremly well:

If Milan plays with Kaka'-Ronaldinho-Pato up front, and Pirlo in the middle as a central midfielder ( I think Flamini plays better as a dM and Pirlo pushed more forward ), Milan needs one of the fullbacks to be defensive. Now, Favalli is not even a real player - 0 points from Croatia to Favalli :). Jankulovski has shown he is not on top anymore and is also not too good defensively. Only player that can play fullback and transform into CB when we change formation while attacking is bonera. The problem is that Gattuso wiull play as a RM. Which means - forget about right side of the field, which is stuipd.

THE BEST solution is Kaladze as a LB!
----------------GK--------------
-zambrotta-nesta-ZAPATA-Kaladze-
-----------flamini--------------
-----gattuso-----pirlo--------
-------kaka'---ronaldinho----
-----------pato---------

for this we need one more class CB ( Mexes, Zapata....someone). MAYBE even Bonera can play it. But this is the best option for us, Im sure of it. I know Kaladze doesnt want to play it, but he is a professional, he can do it - he did it before.

it attack faze it becomes:
-------nesta-zapata-kaladze------
--------gattuso--flamini--------
-zambrotta----pirlo----kaka'----------
---------ronaldino------
-------------pato-----------

That is the same way we played with Rui-KAka'-Sheva-Cafu-Sedorf and so on....

3 more palyers are needed for this super team: Ronaldinho, boruc, Zapata. then you have Oddo, JAnkulovski, Antonini, Abate, Seedorf,Ambrosini, Inzaghi, Boriello, Bonera on the bench and you have a real team on your desposal. We just need to know how to mix it a bit, and we didnt mix at all last 2 years.

I don't think Aquilani will stay at Roma like Totti. I expect that person to be De Rossi. I don't have any cold hard facts, it's just a hunch I have. I'd give my right toe for De Rossi to play at Milan though.

I don't understand why Milan wants Ronaldinho when he is not the player we need. We need a strong forward that has a physical presence in the front, and that being Adebayor. Ronaldinho simply is not in good form and I'm starting to think that he won't return to his classic form. Not only that Ronaldinho and Kaka do NOT play well together... you just have to look at the numerous Brazilian national team games to see this.

I'd be quite frustrated if we spend something 35 million on Ronaldinho, and not spend that on a strong physical forward like Adebayor.

And I think Seedorf should be a bit more modest, play less games and give us more quality. He for example could focus on the UEFA Cup...

IF Milan sign Ade and R10 and Seedorf leaves, then Galli can say he rules the transfer market.

I cannot believe a Prem side would actually want Seedorf? Not that he is not talented but he is really too slow for the Prem.

And I think if Aqualini is leaving, Milan will sure make a bid and will tell him that he can take over Ambro spot anyday.

I have an idea... if we need more money we can sell: Storari, Dida, Brocchi and Simic? I mean come on... Milan seems to get the quality right in other parts of the field, but just not in the goalbox. Storari is utter rubbish.

Edit: You know at this point, I'd be satisfied if we get Boruc in all honesty, though I know there are better keepers than him like Frey...

carlo wants to play pato alone upfront? he's going to get killed. like last year constantly pick up minor injuries, or god forbid he picks up a big one. He's simply not physical enough yet. hes only 18 for christsake. i mean i think he'll become bigger as most people do as the age. There r so man dirty defenders in serie A, a bunch of materazzis on smaller club who kill kick at him and shove him.

if we r serious about playing the xmas tree... basically a modified 4-3-3, we NEED adebayor, or something physically intimidating who can hold the ball up... players coming to mind... adebayor, berbatov, ronaldo, adriano, pavlyuchenko, van nistolrooy, drogba (but please not drogs...)

Exactly... and if you look at it he wasn't really played alone all that much anyways... and the times he was you're right he did get hurt. We need to preserve him and that's why I'm for a big presence like Adebayor... I'd prefer Eto'o, but it's unlikely we'll get him. I'm sure Pato will do fine and turn into a fantastic player, but he needs a partner to join up with... this is why, while I like Ronaldinho as great player, I'm in favor of getting Adebayor even if that means NOT getting Ronaldinho. Milan has to prioritize and get a striker first and foremost (Ronaldinho not being one). Then, if we have some money left over we can get an attacking midfielder... again while I like Ronaldinho, I'm in favor of Schweinsteiger.

I remember when I was 18... I was not in the shape I'm in now... from 18-23... are critical years for a player to develop...

BTW, it's my belief Aquilani will not go anywhere. And Roma and Milan usually don't buy from each other...

-----

He understands completely... so I don't think he'll sacrifice Pato. If anything, at least Marco Borriello would play alongside with Pato...

Pato should come in more as a super-substitute I think... he's did fine in that last game against Udinese if you all remember. 4-3-1-2 is best suited for him...

I think he should be a regular sub... and should be brought on even if we are winning a match. Not Emerson.

i prefer to win. if pato is good eough he will start. but to have an 18 year old be focal point of our offense, we wont win league. it could also kill his career. if we get dinho.... then him +dinho and kaka will be in a 3 person rotation for 2 'creative offensive spots' be it attacking mid or support striker.... if he gets 20 leage starts... 10-15 more sub appearances... thats great. if he hits amazing form, he an relegate some1 else to the bench.

but you dont build ur team around 18 year old. he is the future, he will be a star but he needs time to grow. you dont see barca selling everyone to start bojan 30 games. they r bringing in peices so they can bring him along slowly... they did same thing w/ messi. even when he was super talented at 18 he didnt start full time. took him a couple years....

dinho and ronaldo both played at smaller clubs (psg and psv for exmple)

Yes, but unlike Gilardino, Adebayor scored 24 times last season (or was it 27?)... far better than Gilardino's 11 was it? Look at the bigger picture and stop nitpicking. And you're comparing Adebayor to Gilardino lol? That's almost comical.

They are two completely different kind of strikers... and Adebayor is far more physical and mobile than Gilardino (at least the Gilardino we've seen the past one or two seasons).

Adebayor:
AC Milan and Barcelona are both hot on Adebayor’s heels, and it believed they would have to pay over ₤30million to snare their man.

Barca have taken the biggest strides so far, having sent officials to London recently to open negotiations.

It was originally thought the former Monaco man would prefer a move to San Siro to link up with ex-Gunner Mathieu Flamini, but he hinted that Camp Nou in fact holds the greater attraction.

“Milan are a big club but the fact they are not playing in the Champions League next season is less of a challenge,” Adebayor said.

“Barcelona have made a good financial offer. Yes, I am still under contract to Arsenal but it’s up to the directors to satisfy my demands. Otherwise, I’ll leave.

“You have to take advantage of the moment. Why not go to Barcelona if the manager there already has me in his plans? That means there is a big chance of seeing me there.”

Forget Huntelaar. I'm in favor of a proven striker right now. I'm all about results right now. Not waiting. And I think Arsenal could get him (if we take Adebayor). We should focus on Adebayor.

In reality, I would have preferred Eto'o, because that guy is more proven than either Huntelaar or Adebayor. That's the guy that struck the goal that equalised for Barcelona in a CL final, which they eventually won.

I'd rather have Huntelaar than either Drogba (too old) and Adebayor (technically, just not good enough). Adebayor seems to have the same problem as boriello, he's only good when he's wide open and/or against weak teams.

No one double teams people on Genoa so Boriello scores goals. When people close down against Milan, Boriello will shrivel up again. Adebayor scored most of his goals against weak teams and had long stretches of disappointing performances.

Huntelaar may not play in the best league, but he has skills and continues to score consistently. He's young, talented, plays smart, tall, and can develop further. I cannot say that about Adebayor except for maybe the tall part.

Disappointly, someone posted the same thing you said and applied it to Torres a few years ago. Why Milan didn't take that risk either, I'll never know. Abbiati could have been part of the deal.

IMHO, Adebayor is just a smokescreen. I don't think Milan will really go through with it. They want Ronaldinho (who also wants Milan) but they need the price to drop. Personally, I'd rather not go with Ronaldinho either, but we're talking about Berlu's wishes, not mine.

Rather he scored against many high ranking teams... And I can't agree with you about Borriello. I'm willing to give the guy a chance. Sure he won't be like Inzaghi, but I'm willing to give him the chance.

And Adebayor scored against many large teams... ti was only Arsenal's inexperience defense that let him down.

Huntelaar may not play in the best league, but he has skills and continues to score consistently. He's young, talented, plays smart, tall, and can develop further. I cannot say that about Adebayor except for maybe the tall part.

Adebayor is young too. I mean aren't they the same age? Adebayor can develop further too... sheesh... he's only 24 years old. If you were talking about drogba you'd have valid points.

Huntelaar is 6'1" and Adebayor is 6'3". Adebayor is a bit taller and the more physical presence that we need. Huntelaar looks a bit fragile to me...
