Cause he wants to find an excuse not to spend. Huntelaar has been consistant in his perfomances for Ajax as a striker.

Boriello has one good year and Galiani has the nerve to put them in the same class. What an insult!!!

Galiani is truly a bald fool of the highest order.:5dito:Please have some respect. Galliani has been the vice president at Milan for a long time. In this time we have amassed a war chest of sliverware. If he says that a guy who scored 1 goal in 17 matches than a guy who scores 70 in 82* then YOU need to check over your mathematics not him. Huntelaar is also EQUAL TO BORRIELLO in height as they are BOTH 6' 1".....Now tell me that's not an improvement over the 6' 0.5" Gilardino

Imagine if we can turn back time to the point where before the scandal and I remembered at that time, Berlu approached Moggi and asked Moggi to join us. Imagine Moggi did and scandal never happened. Would that be nice, Milan would probably secure more IT youths and loan them out to small Series A clubs and never sell them even for 1/2 an ownership like we do now. Players like Buffon, Zambrotta and Ibra joining us in the ranks. Then always selling aging stars with high price and getting younger hungrier stars with half of that value, like how he sold ZZ and in return getting guys like Nedved, Thruam and Buffon. What would Milan look like today??

Mr. Anonymous
23-06-2008, 11:31
no but at his price I content he will give you more than dinho. Arshavin is hungry. He wants to win in big leagues, champion leagues etc.

and like someone else said, should scouts have done there homework he would have been attainable pre tournament before his stock sky rocketed...

I think Dinho will be hungry to prove that he's still the best this coming year. He'll be hungry.;)

I'm not convinced that Zenit would have sold him for much less than they will before this tournament began.:dontkn: Just because you have a valuable jewel and others don't realize it...doesn't mean you sell it for anything less than what it's worth.

But, you're right I think that his price (already high in this teams estimation) will go higher.

If you believe Galiani we were priced out of acquiring his services before he touched the pitch at the Euros or the UEFA CUP.

well theres ur problem dru..... wikipedia is not an accurate source. Soccernet says borriello scored 30 goals in 130 appearances since 2002 (counting 19 last season)..... where as huntelaar (CRAP) has scored 130 goals in 174 appearances since 2004.

btw 3rd report ive seen that real madrid will sell RVN.... stupid real, he won them la liga 2 years ago and did a big part this year (notice, team slumps when he got hurt).... may not be pretty, but probably most effective striker in the world.

Etiherway as much as i'd prefer a younger option. I'll take RVN for now if Arshavin comes along. Imagine RVN and pippo platooning upfront (because literally combine they will be fit for all games.... that is all) and behind them the service for arshavin, kaka, pato.... plus great long balls from pirlo and gattuso...... err great long balls from pirlo!

Berlu is up to his eyeballs with his own sh*t in Italy right now, he's probably not checking in with Galliani too much.
I wish we would become a selling club, as we could sell Dida, Simic, Brocchi, Emerson, Favalli, and a few others to get a nice fresh start.
I posted a few (like 20) pages back, but what are people going to do if we actually finish in 10th or 11th like we did in mid 90's? I guess this poses the question of where do people think we can realistically finish with the squad that is currently in place. If we take Galliani at his word, i.e. that no other player will come except Ade (maybe), then what does our season's realistic expectations look like?

If he has a horrible showing people won't think twice about writing him off. Conversely, if he has an extremely positive showing it should count for something IMO.

Apart from his skill you will be able to see his desire and focus and small intangibles that will indicate where he's at.

IMO it has never been a question of ability, but a question of his mentality.

Note: Yes I wrote that Ronaldinho is a year younger when I meant to write Arshavan is a year younger.

my best friend is an arsenal supporter. i will be so pissed if this is true. I dont think it is though. he rejected barca cause they didnt meet his wage demands.. you think ASSene wenger will?!

Wenger would probably not sign this guy because:

1. The only way that makes Arshavin joins Gunners is if only Hleb leaves the club. They have already bought in two attacking midifilders (Nasri, Vela) as well as Ramsey. So their options for out wide and as central playmakers in a 4-5-1 are:

Rosicky, Hleb, Nasri, Walcott, Vela, Eboue.

As well as other options such as RVP, Eduardo, Diaby, Denilson, Ramsey who can all potentially play in those positions.

Considering last season all they had was Rosicky, Hleb, Walcott and Eboue + Eduardo and RVP all fighting it out for three positions, I think depth wise they are set right now.

Even if Hleb leaves they have lost one but have still gained two wide players.

2. Abramovich once again comes to break the market like usual. Specially this case is the player from his hometown. He won't be just sit and say: yeah, he is coming from my hometown :1whis:

3. Wenger favourite players are coming from class 1983 until 1987. So Arshavin isn't qualified to attend Wenger's lecture :wallbang:

aSSen wenger signed a french player? SHOCKER

You may hate him mate, but look at his performances at the Euros. He can still perform admirably and looked quite sharp unlike Toni or Gomez, etc. Some of his link up play was very good indeed, so i think if they price was right (i.e. £7 million or less) then i don't think he'd be much of a risk.

Channel 4:

Milan are reportedly chasing German international star Bastian Schweinsteiger and are considering activating his rescission clause.

In spite of his needless sending off against Croatia, Bayern Munich midfield ace Schweinsteiger has impressed at Euro 2008.

The 23-year-old scored one goal and set up another during Germany’s 3-2 win over Portugal in the quarter-finals and earned a place on a number of shopping lists.

According to L’Equipe, Milan are ready to meet the £17m needed to force Bayern to relinquish their grip of Schweinsteiger and they are preparing personal terms.

However, the Diavolo will almost certainly face competition from the Premier League.

“England does appeal and it is one of the best Leagues in the world,” Schweinsteiger told The Sunday Mail.

“I’ve always wanted to play there and we will see what happens this year.”

Milan are currently still trying to lure Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor, but may need all their available funds to do so.

Why not just go for a player with less risk attached for a higher price tag.

You get what you pay for in most cases, and in the long run it'll be less expensive.

If you add up all the alternatives to world class players that Milan have bought since the departure if Sheva...we'd probably be in a better position financially & on the pitch if we had splurged a few times on a quality big name.

Exactly. RVN would be enough for the uefa cup and i'm sure he'd deliver a good 15 goals in Serie A if not more. Plus for a reasonable figure it would be a better option than say £18 - 20 million for either Toni or Drogba.

It would leave us more money to buy a great player, Arshavin or otherwise.

I guess this poses the question of where do people think we can realistically finish with the squad that is currently in place. If we take Galliani at his word, i.e. that no other player will come except Ade (maybe), then what does our season's realistic expectations look like? I refuse to take anything Galliani says at this juncture seriously. I consider him just into the middle of the "hard-ball" phase of the negotiation process...and as such, this is what he must say, in order for clubs to reassess their selling price.

If for eg R10 decides that he isnt going to Man City...Barca cannot force him to leave for the english club.

Milan know this.

In truth, I am less focused on the mercato and the rumors and speculation, as its only going to get worse, before it gets better.

And lest someone say I am a "management defender"...let me hasten to reiterate, that I may not like how they go about their business, but they never once asked me to be a fan, it was my choice, and remains my choice to support the club. Which I will continue to do, regardless of who owns it, and whether they are a paedophile, rapist, cook, bottle washer, or priest...I owe my allegiance to AC Milan, not to anyone player or person.

I dont like the public nature of their negotiations, but I am not going to crucify them either, as until the mercato closes, we have no idea whether our transactions will be successfull or not, and that has always been my point.

Galliani will say anything to get the players we want, at the best possible terms for Milan...and that is what needs to be remembered.

To answer your question though...I think with the squad we have in place, without Ade, I think we are competitive for top 3 finish in the Serie A, while with him, we could take the title without too much issue.

And you haven’t done anything other than toe the party line. Your unqualified support would make Berlusconi blush. Though your “Galliani should keep his mouth shut” was a welcome departure from your staunch support for all things management.

Either way, I haven’t started crying yet. Complaining is all the common man has, right? Or should I resign myself to the fact that elitist suit-and-tie men say things to get elected and then screw my football club and me over?

Our transfer campaign has not been as good as promised. If this is “Galliani tactic 32” from the manual, then I will sing his praises with you come August 31st. If not, then I don’t think I can bear another season of willful failure.

Yes actually I do agree. I hear huntelaar does not have the best ball control and such... I even think Borriello is better, and I don't get why people are bashing him.

I don't think they're bashing Boriello, I think thery're trying to keep his accomplishment of 1 good season in perspective.

What indicates or leads you the conclusion that Boriello is better than Huntelaar?

What are you saying? My unqualified support? I'm not unqualified. When it comes to politics I have something under my name called a "degree". I also do know what I'm talking about. But I understand that what Galliani is saying is considered hard ball tactics of negotiation.

All you have done is complain and you have never really backed yourself up. Galliani is a good man, but sometimes he talks a bit too much. And yes our transfer season has been quite impressive. I don't think some people here get it.

I didn't say you were unqualified. I said your support was unqualified, and I meant it in the way that it is without any limits, not in the educational sense (check definition 2 here: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/qualify) . I would not resort to ad hominems over the internet.

Ad hominems huh? You just did. I am basing my statements on the facts and how this transfer season has been (even though it hasn't even started). I base my statements on the fact we have five new players in Milan's squad next season so far... not too bad for a transfer season that is not even open.

I don't think you have any ground to stand on to accuse me of unqualified support.

interesting stuff. i know i mentioned this before, but clearly they dont think too positively of keeping adebayor. and quite frankly they should sell him. If he's not happy he'll be a cancer.

Adebayor leaving is inevitable, it's just a question of who is willing to pay more out of Barcelona or Milan - however I think Milan has the upper hand because from what I've read the player only wants to play in Italy.

lemme derail this...

To win league next year, we need to do these things....
1) start strong..... our starts in league last few years have dug us big holes. Its no suprise inter have won league when they come out blazing and dont lose until past january.

2) Get results against small clubs.... We actually had a good record against inter, juve, fiorentina etc etc.... but what wins you a league is getting 6 points against atalanta, palermo etc etc. Sure everyone slips up a couple times.. .you meet napoli or sampdoria on form you end w/ a draw.

But to win league, you really need to beat the sienas etc every time! Our short coming here has been, small teams play defensive. Its hard to break them down unless you attack attack hard. This is why i'm not a proponent of the 4-3-2-1. It works in champions league when we let teams attack us and counter. Unfortunately, Cagliari or catania arent coming out guns blazing. So we need to bring a strong attack, and break them down. To do this we need to play w/ more attacking options. Especially with our lack of depth upfront this was an issue. I think we need 1 more striker and a creative attacker....be it arshavin (PLEASE) or ronaldinho etc etc

3) depth/speed in back..... What killed us equally against atalanta etc etc is when we move forward, our defense was so slow they got killed on the counter. This is why zapata and vargas would have been nice.

4) finally a point i hit on in other 3 points. Be more aggressive.... Kaka, Pato, Pirlo attacking u is formitable.... Carlo sits back too much alot of time. When we had our greatest success.... sheva, seedorf, kaka, pirlo etc brought the attack they didnt react. This is the type of mentality you need to win league. Defensive mentality gets u nowhere against small clubs.

-----------------------

my 2 cents, you're welcome to disagree. I dont think our squad has enough to implement all this. I think we need 2 more attacking players. That or kaka, pato need to be on unbelievable form, avoid injuries and play 35+ matches in serie a. something not particularity likely or fair to ask of.

This is why i get so frustrated though. We are not fiorentina who r probably still 6+ players away from being a legitimate serie A title challenger. We r soo close, and i just want management to swallow pride, and put us over the hump

AC Milan boss Ancelotti won over by Arshavin
tribalfootball.com - June 23, 2008

AC Milan are ready to launch a bid for Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Andrei Arshavin.

La Repubblica says the Russia international caught Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti's eye in action against Sweden last week and is now top of the Rossoneri's shopping list.

Arshavin is up for sale at Zenit for £11 million.

Man you guys are getting caught in this transfer madness, alot of you guys are starting to sound like the newspapers.
Which is not a bad thing, but it does tell me one thing we are coming down to a desicion here on a transfer very soon.
With the Euro's almost over and now new names attracting attention everything is where managers of clubs want them to be.With other options on the market now,it creates more smoke screens and maybe better buys.
Yes Arshavin and Bastian very good players, but are they the real players Milan want?
Hot players like that create more attention from other clubs like Barca,Aresnal,Chelsea,Inter,ManU and Real. And all that does is help Milan in finding player at the right price.

Schweinsteiger spent the last year with Bayern in UEFA cup and was a key part to their project for this year, there is no way that we will get him and the same goes for all of the Bayern players (mainly because we are in the UEFA, it would be a step down for them).

Galliani has spoken again and has said the same utter rubbish again, but the highlight this time was saying that he doesn't think Huntelaar is better than Boriello.. I really wonder, what does Galliani lose if he just keeps quiet? Does he have to say something so stupid every 3 days?

Getting in players like Antonini, Boriello, Abbiati, Abate are all step-downs. Ofcourse we know of Galliani's experience in football and how long he has been in it and how long he has brought success to us, it is BECAUSE of that that we have become so angry and impatient. We KNOW he is not that dumb to bring crap players like that, but he still is and is defending his decisions. I really cannot understand what is on the managements minds, but I know that the great Galliani that we once had is no longer the great negotiator we had. It is obvious that they are planning a surprise coup and Adebayor is not our real target - but I'm afraid no matter who the surprise coup is, we will still need 3 or 4 more other players.

If management(Galiani & Berlu) sold this team tomorrow...and took over Parma would people be defending Galiani actions as strongly as they are now? Or would they say that management left us in a crappy position?

It's true management nor anyone else aked me to be a fan of this team...but when they took charge of this team they took on a responsibility towards the fans of this team, and I for one believe that in the past they have done brilliantly...but in the recent past they have dropped the ball and are being fairly critized by the press and the fans of this team.

Not saying you Warro...but I really think some people here are bigger supporters of Berlu & Galiani than of the team. (Look at some of the sigs they tell you alot)

I don't care who you are if I think you are screwing the team...I'm gonna voice my displeasure not of the team necessarily...but of those who have taken the responsbility to ensure it improves and is the best it possible can be at all times.

Adebayor transfer, maybe went like ha Wenger how much for your boy Adebayor,Wenger 40million,Galliani 40million? where do get that number from.Wenger, well that's the going rate on him and Barca are interested too.Galliani so what have they offered?

Best signings this year in order.
1-Zambrotta,will help right away and creates more depth to the team with his ability to play on both sides of the pitch.
2-Flamini,also helps with depth for team, lets rest Pirlo,Gattuso and Ambro.
Milan lost games last year late, remember Juve and Roma. With good subs like Oddo and sometimes Janku depending where Ancelloti plays Zambrotta in games, Milan fullback should be fitter this season.
Same thing goes for Flamini.I bet alot people would rather see Flamini instead Emerson and Brocchi finishing or starting games for Milan.

To add my two cents in I agree with Mr. Anonymous. If management makes a decision that we percieve to be to the detriment of the club then we should speak out. It's as simple as that. Unless you are a serie aficionado, you'd have a vague idea about players like Antonini, and perhaps a clearer understanding of others like Abate and of course everybody knows Zambrotta, Flamini and Borriello. However given the evolution of football and the acceleration of the changes themselves how are we to be able to rest our hopes on these players.

At best we can hope that they fit in and excell. However we CANNOT hope that these players who have by and large been under the radar in terms of media hype and ratings will all suddenly become superstars....especially given that they are all close to or over the age of 24.

If one were to make a list of the best players or most promising talents in the age group we have currently signed only perhaps Flamini would make it. Be honest, how many of you would have honestly gone after the players we HAVE signed? The whole Italian players last longer thing is pure hogwash to me as well because not everybody is Maldini....some players experience a DRAMATIC drop in performance past the age of 32. Gattuso seems to be declining physically (hope it's just bad form), Nesta has hinted that he may retire soon....we all know what happened with Vieri etc etc...

WE NEED UPGRADES. Barca upgraded Zambrotta to Alves because he is RATED as the best wingback in the world.....when are we going to do that? We replaced Gilardino with another player who is the same age but only now managed to score +15 goals in a season? We replaced Cafu with a player who has NEVER had Cafu's pace (Zambrotta) though being better positionally etc etc. And up to the time of my posting we have not replaced either Sheva- the most versatile striker ever OR Crespo

Meanwhile the other big clubs rightfully buy BIG NAMES because there is a greater probability that these players will fulfill or exceed their expectations. How such simple logic tends to escape so many here is simply baffling.

I took him off my ignore list because there are no hard feelings. However, there is very little accurate about it. We are getting new players to reinforce the flanks. I'm not sure if Abate will be loaned out at all, and I think he may be given playing time. We don't need a bunch of big names. We need quality players. And Alves for Zambrotta seems to be a downgrade for Barcelona. Alves is overrated.

Meanwhile the other big clubs rightfully buy BIG NAMES because there is a greater probability that these players will fulfill or exceed their expectations. How such simple logic tends to escape so many here is simply baffling.

You are always right with the whole argument, except that i still don't buy this big name argument. Because at the end of the day, the level of play is so high that who plays at which position can make little difference (and correct me if I'm wrong).

I don't think Russia has a particularly strong team this year in UEFA, but they did marvelously. I honestly think that we have put too much assumption into the fact that bringing players like Alves will make Milan strong. Yes, there is a higher proability, but isn't that what Barcelona thought they did when they purchased Zambrotta, only to realize that Zambrotta couldn't perform because, (WHAT?!), he is home sick?

Your other favorate example is Torres: Yes he is amazing and I have seen his pace. He may have helped us solve the problem with pace (though I thought Pato also did well so far) but did at the end of the day he won nothing this year with Liverpool. I sincerely hope that he will next year, as I'm not doubting his ability. I'm merely pointing the assumption here that buying this 'obvious' target may well be invalid. If, for example, a team is already full of attacking players, then it doesn't make sense to buy another one (I'm not saying Milan). Real Madrid is a good example.

The question is whether we buy a player who can fit into what the current milan system is. Believe it or not, Milan's current system is created by Ancelotti, who probably is in a better position to decide which position will fit who in anything. He can make wrong judgment, but so do we. What makes us think that our judgment is always more accurate.

Alves may be a good purchase, but how is Zambrotta ever be bad? It's an upgrade for Barcelona because Zambrotta will never perform well for them. But it's also an upgrade for us because Zambrotta is >>> Cafu at this moment of time. There can be multiple reasons why Milan didn't buy Alves.

Remember, if YOU (or rather, WE) think Alves is an obvious choice, then what makes you think that the management don't know it, given that they have been in this business for over N years?

If it's just so simple as a matter of paying the money and get the player (like how Real Madrid actually did without much planning), then the end result can ONLY BE failure.

Whether the management and the coach is making the right judgment...... that's another matter... All I am saying here is that it can only be a lot more complicated than what we are seeing here.

And we tend to be fooled by the totally unreliable media.

Abate will be loaned out. He said he wants to play in club, which will ensure him regular perfomances. Apparently Milan is negotiating with Sampdoria.

Saying that he is the only person ruining himself is baseless and almost scandulous. I don't ever think anyone will agree with you here in that statement, because we still wonder who ever provides service to Gilardino these days.

You know what? I STAND BY MY STATEMENTS AND I'M NOT GOING TO BE BACKING DOWN. Not in a hundred years.

Right. That was my opinion. Meaning when I said "I think". Gilardino was a disgrace to Milan and as far as I'm concerned he can't play in a big team like Milan.

You need to understand when someone states their opinion on a matter.

And you need to understand that when you state an opinion, you have at least some forms of argument.

I can say, "ACMILAN1983 is a stupid poster (sorry dev :D), AND THAT"S MY OPINION". That doesn't count. It's not like it's your opinion and you can say anything.

Freedom of speech doesn't mean that "it's my opinion and I can say whatever I want". At least not in this forum. We value posters who speak with sense, not just MY OPINION. Your opinion, and thus your reasonings, may differ from mine, and that's fine. But saying that "it's my opinion and I can say whatever you want" is not treasured here.

And you'll find yourself with plenty of enemies pretty soon. Our forum is different from R&B: you can go there and there is a greater degree of freedom there since you can really say whatever you want. MM is a much smaller community that treasures each other's opinion THAT IS well argued, or at least tried being argued.

I never said anyone was stupid. But I find it utterly ridiculous you are ganging up on me when I stated my own damn opinion, which is based on the last few years. I am making an argument, what does it look like?

I frankly do not care if I make enemies. I'm tired of people here who complain about everything when it doesn't go their way. Give it a rest, many things in life don't go your way.

I'm certainly not going to sit here, sugarcoat my opinions and arguments because some people don't like them.

No body ever asks you to back down your opinoin. Dru has always said that R99 is the greatest footballer in the world. Most of the time I don't agree with him. And he is still around and people treasure him.

You can have your own opinion too, but you have thus far fail to justify why Borriello is a replacement over Gilardino. That's not an opinion. That's a fact. I don't mind if you claim things like "Gilardino has been awful in front of the goal". That's true, too, and you can use that as an argument.

So far i have seen nothing from your post that indicate so. Writing in capital letter wont' make your opinion any stronger.

1) Gilardino scored 24 goals in TWO seasons, top scorers. Gilardino played and contributed when he played in the world cup, assisting Del Piero in the second goal and scoring the first goal against USA. He also hit the post against Germany.

Borreillo? A flash in a season, brought to EURO2008 and played NO minute.

2) Borreillo also came on sub as MIlan a few season ago, and was awful. He couldn't control, he couldn't score, he couldn't do ANYTHING.

3) Borriello has no CL experience. He hasn't scored a goal in CL. I don't know if he has better position sense, so that I'll leave you justified.

4) I already inform you why Gilardino has same levels of passion to play for Milan.

Here are at least 4 solid reasons why Gilardino is better than Borriello, compared when they first came here. Maybe Borriello is a reinforcement, but I tend to remain skeptical rather than absolute.

I don't see how you can possibly state any of these. Borriello has to be given a damn chance, and I think he's improved vastly since he was younger. Vastly. I've seen him playing for Genoa several times and that's why I think Borriello will be better for Mlian than Gilardino.

Be skeptical all you want. I'm going to give the guy a damn chance. I bet you, if he can't prove himself he'll be loaned out again in December.

His problem was more than he lost focus. Not caring his first season will be a mistake because that's an indication of how Ancelotti builds his system, and why in such a system players like Gilardino, and unforutnately likely for Borreillo, is going to fail.

Fine with me; no one is really passing judgment on Borriello here; I maintain that I'm just skeptical about him. I hope he'll bring luck to MIlan.

You keep rehashing that point over and over again. Gilardino of today I don't think is the Gilardino of Parma. I'm not sure how he would do for Fiorentina... I said I wish him the best.

I'm not necessarily bashing him, but I just didn't like the fact he did not play with passion for Milan when he was given many chances to do so. Especially with the injury to Inzaghi earlier in the season.

My opinion without facts? My opinions are based on what has happened.

While I wish him the best of luck, he did NOT perform with passion in Milan. Maybe because he had his heart elsewhere and Fiorentina was that club. As much as I hate to do this I am forced to agree with Giancarlo :eekani: Gila can say what he wants. I respect him greatly for his parting message but the Gila I SAW on the field had no passion. I see it in virtually everybody else...but not him....It's just my silly opinion but his mind seemed elsewhere.

Dru If you make your mind that he has no passion you'll EASILY find instances where you think he's shown no passion. I dont know y borriello is being wrote up as a great guy and gila a cancer. As far as i've seen gilardino has been nothing but a complete classy guy. Probably why he got more opproptunities than his force displayed he deserved.

in my opinion his biggest problem was samre as tonis problem in euros. He doesnt MOVE. unlike goal paches like pippo and RVN who always move, may not be as fast as they were, but r always playing w/ defenders and moving. Gila would get frustrated and be easily taken out of game.

bt back to borriello. This guy was a cancer. Steroids? sex creams?! Maybe i'm jealous because belen is gorgeous... but in my opinion his career has been alot more lackadaisical and he's never seemed super serious. If milan thought so highly of his potential why would they sell half his rightS? Especially coming into a season where we had won champions league (reaD:" HAD MONEY) and were short on eligible strikers (pippo, ronaldo injuried... pato ineligible till jan).

I think Gilardino will rediscover some form. I dont think he really has the skill though to playfor a big club. I feel same way about boriello too though. Unlike Amauri (who some1 compared him to) who is skilled, and moves well

I never said that Gilardino was a cancer. And Borriello is a lot better now and I think he can prove himself to Milan. If he was such crap why would they buy him back (using your logic)? I'm sick and tired of people bashing on Borriello. Amauri has skills for a big club? How do you come to that assessment? He scored less goals than Borriello this previous season...

Lets look at it this way guys. I welcome Borriello and it seems like he has something to prove. I like that.

I also want Milan to buy Eto'o and Arshavin... or maybe Schweinsteiger (though I feel sorry for the announcer that has to say his name lol)... either way, I think Borriello is welcome to come back to Milan... and he had a great season.

Anyways, I have gone on and on about Eto'o... because he's the proven striker we need. He had the equaliser goal that got Barca that CL a few years back...

i think neither borriello or gilardino fall into a category of pippo, or even tevez... type of guy who may not be as technically skilled as r99 was in his day or drogba or henry in his prime etc etc....but is a complete warrior and fights for every opportunity upfront (think gattuso like mentality... which is what u need to succeed at a big club if u dont half the technical ability of pato or kaka or seedorf etc).

Thats what impressed me most on paloschi.... he seems like a real fighter, even though his skill was clearly not there yet (hey he's 18..... its to be expecteD)

didnt say u called him a cancer. it was 4 or 5 people who said he lacked passion etc. I was just drawing point, that i felt borriello lacked it alot more than gila. Just my opinion though....

He was bought back because he was cheap. Thats my honest opinion. He had a good season. He's italian. He didnt cost alot. I think if we honestly look at skill, we could have made better purchases for the roll of striker off the bench (which i think is what we see it as... because theoretically we're gonna get eto'o or adebayor... who will NOT be bench players lol).

Oh no... certainly not Inzaghi. Borriello or Gilardino have nothing on the man. I think Borriello will do fine if he plays with another striker though (4-3-1-2). National team performance aside, one can see this with the partnership of Di Natale and Quagliarella... maybe the reason Di Natale did not do well is because he didn't have his partner Quagliarella there.

And as far as Paloschi... I'd like to see Milan hold onto him if there is room, or loan him out for a season or two to develop his skills...

What kind of player refuses to run into position?
What kind of player chooses to dive first and shoot later?
What kind of player when realizing that he is way off form doesn't drop into the midfield to mix it up?
What kind of player doesn't at least try to add new elements to his game?

1) you keep your eye on him for 90mins every time?
2) Dude, he only dives one and you are picking up on that. You don't need us to go to Inzaghi previously....
3) If he came back all the way to mix things up, there is no one in front. Have you seen luca toni comes back all the time to mix things up? In fact, Gila did and get free kicks too.
4) how can he add new elements to his game when the attack is barely there.
5) You see it as ego, I see that as taking responsibility. It's quite unimaginable to think that he means that he is NOT sorry to miss it. In fact, De Rossi just came out and said that he said he hated those who at the last minute backed up and didn't shoot for penalty. Now is that a problem?

This thus proves exactly what Mystik said.

Oh no... certainly not Inzaghi. Borriello or Gilardino have nothing on the man. I think Borriello will do fine if he plays with another striker though (4-3-1-2). National team performance aside, one can see this with the partnership of Di Natale and Quagliarella... maybe the reason Di Natale did not do well is because he didn't have his partner Quagliarella there.

i really like quagliarella. He actually has alot of qualities like wayne rooney (in terms of skill... not douchebaggery). I said we should swap borriello for him when rumors came forth milan and juve were interested in quagliarella.

for the euro spain game.... i think no pirlo effected everyone. Aquilani was not ready for this position. Ambrosini worked real hard, but he's not pirlo. Alot of great service di natale, camorenesi etc saw in qualifying was cause of pirlo

And as far as Paloschi... I'd like to see Milan hold onto him if there is room, or loan him out for a season or two to develop his skills...

In an ideal situation. palo will be ready for milan when pippo retires...but thats a little while away. Love Paloschi's attitude, desire

Same here mate. I do like Paloschi because of his attitude. He is the new Inzaghi for us IMO, he is only bit smaller than Inzaghi. He will be great striker IMO if he keeps Inzaghi's attitude (when playing) on him.

I think, its better for him to go on loan as he does need games as he hasnt played many games. He was new in Primavera without played for Beretti before and he did miss some games of Primavera. He wont get many games here in Milan, its better for him to find games in other place.

Actually, if we get someone like Arshavin, Montolivo, Van der Vaart, Sneijder, or anyone else in an offensive position, we would be able to play at least one year without a new striker in the team I think.

Pato, Inzaghi, Borriello are 3 types of strikers who are very different.
Paloschi is a kind of "young Inzaghi" in the way he plays and wants to play.

Even if Borriello (I don't like him, again I have to say that lol) and Paloschi are not in the top strikers next year, their kind of play could allow us to change sometimes the formation and the way to play.

I'm starting to think that Adebayor isn't needed (whereas I defended him in previous pages), that Eto'o doesn't fit mentally to our team (he's amazing when he's on form), etc ... and other top strikers won't be sold.

Why do you think that ?
With 4 valid options in attack (so with Paloschi in), he could earn some spots, especially when the team will play with 2 strikers, what could happen more often next year I think.

And he could be our striker for early games in UEFA Cup + all Italian Cup games ...

So he could play at least 15-20 matches as a starter in the year + some subs ... same for Borriello.

You didn't read all my post I think ... or you missed a part.
I said they could be enough IF we get a player like Arshavin, Montolivo, Rosina, Ronaldinho, and co ... you see, an offensive midfielder who can create chances. If we don't get a player like that, we'll need a serial scorer.

EDIT:
PS1: Pato could score something like 20 goals next year, maybe more, we just have to hope that he doesn't get any injury.
PS2: We can also hope that Inzaghi won't have a year like this one and will continue on his late form ... so if he can play 25-30 games, we can expect from him something like 15 goals.
PS3: In other games, Borriello and Paloschi could score something like 20 goals together (not 20 for Paloschi and 20 for Borriello but 20 for both lol).

If we have only 4 strikers including Palo (Pato, Pippo, Poriello, Palo), it means for me, Carlo will use again same formation, 1-striker formation, which means Palo will get only few games.

First option will be Pato (as there is more pressure from Berlu and Galliani to use him more) as single striker and then come Pippo as sub (in other occasions Pippo as the main striker, Pato as sub for Pippo). So the subtitutes for either Pippo or Pato when one of this is unavailable in a match is Boriello. So, the chance for Palo will be so limited. Its for Serie A.

For Coppa, I have no doubt, Palo will always play but not in UEFa. In UEFA he will be sit on the bench for Boriello subs. He will get some matches from bench in UEFA Cup.

I think, the games he will get from Serie A (very few), Coppa (we know how many game Milan play in coppa) and UEFA (mostly from bench, some occasion starts from the first minute) are still not enough for his developement as very young striker who REALLY needs games as he was only 1 year in primavera without playing in Beretti.

At the end we should also consider how 'hesitant' Carlo to use young (especially very young) players.

At this point I'd almost rather have a year where we develop Pato and Paloschi here at Milan...who knows, maybe we don't need the big-name striker. We can save the 25 million and plunk it on Arshavin? For me, if we had an incredible attacking midfielder to compliment kaka' and went with a 2-striker formation, we'd be a nice offensive threat. I don't think this is carlo's style, but it'd be a nice change! We'd have to have our defense work poorly, and Arshavin would have to become a bit more back-tracking...i see goals though!
something like...
Ambro/Rino/Flam-----Pirlo
Kaka'-----Arshavin?
Pato----Palo/Borriello

Actually, I would prefer him to stay because, even if I already said that it could be good for him to go on loan, our recent past shows that the players going on loan often stay in their clubs or are loaned again ...

And don't you think it is better for Paloschi to be a sub, playing sometimes and learning from someone like Inzaghi (and playing with talents like Pato, Kaka', Pirlo and co) instead of playing each match for a bottom-table team that has a lot of difficulties ?

I don't want Paloschi to become the new Pozzi lol !!

Adebayor has been the single most prolific and efficient striker of the foregone year in football. Milan is after him and by right they should after last season...

Then the next argument is to buy Crouch. Crouch is a good player but why not go for the best. Isn't that what Milan really is about??!

Pavluchenko is really good and I want to buy him. But it's either him or Adebayor and frankly I think the latter is a couple of levels above the Russian ace.

I think Eto'o is better than Adebayor... Adebayor is extremely wasteful... Eto'o just seems more refined on the pitch, and knows how to perform in high pressure situations (like with the CL final... ironically Barca vs Arsenal several years back... as he was the one who scored Barca's equaliser).

Galliani gives hitman update

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has given an honest appraisal of the strikers the Rossoneri have been linked with in the summer market.

The Diavolo need a new hitman to add to Brazilian teen star Alexandre Pato and Marco Borriello, who has been brought back from Genoa.

Galliani has stressed that Arsenal’s Emmanuel Adebayor is the only name left on the shopping list, but that hasn’t stopped a host of other names being linked to San Siro.

“Some people are talking about Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, but I’m not sure that he’s better than Borriello,” Galliani explained.

“Karim Benzema costs too much and Lyon aren’t selling him. There has been no approach for Adrian Mutu and he is a second striker – we have Pato for that position.

“We haven’t inquired about Antonio Cassano but like Mutu he is a second striker anyway.

“Chelsea say that Didier Drogba isn’t for sale and then there’s Samuel Eto’o for whom Barcelona are asking too much and his wages are far too large – they aren’t compatible with an Italian club.”

Galliani concluded by discussing the impossibility of signing Barcelona’s Brazilian star Ronaldinho.

“It’s not true that we are considering a bid for him,” he said. “He has a ridiculous offer from England and it cannot be matched.”

Assuming we land this big name striker and Ancelotti's known hesitance to play teenagers, whose to say that Pato will even be a regular in the starting XI?

If we play with 1x striker, the new big name will almost certainly start leaving Pato on the bench. If its crunch time in the game, Ancelotti will then bring Pippo on instead of Pato.

In theory Pato only got the amount of game time he did due to the injury crisis.

As for Paloschi, he might not be at the same level as Pato is currently but I also believe he should stay and can contribute valuably to the 1st team.

In the one of the away games (I think) we were offering nothing in attack. Paloschi came on to partner Pato and suddenly our attack came alive and we looked far more dangerous.

Pato/Paloschi upfront with proper service/support from the midfield could set serie-a on fire next season or it could fail miserably. You never know.

Same with a proven big name striker, could solve all our problems or be a big flop.

Its a catch 22 situation.

I just hope the potential big name striker doesn't cause Pato to stagnate on the bench.

Proof? I see no reason why Abate should not be kept as a reinforcement. The only place I've seen mention of Abate and Sampdoria was on Tribalfootball... and that's hardly a source.
Milan should keep Abate.

This is a perfect oportunity to get 1 or 2 players that will be an integral part of some future CL and scudetto winning teams.
Since Milan obviously can not buy 5 world class expensive players (and Dru should finally accept this) i believe what Milan should do is what Juve did last year.
Not playing CL is an oportunity to give the youngsters a chance to prove themselves. Juve did that and they failed with Palladino, Nocerino, Molinaro and Criscito but they got Chiellini. They made a mistake when they loaned out Giovinco because he'd be another star and a sure starter by now, but nevertheless they did get Chiellini and with a little luck they could have gotten one more young player, thus save big money and still get 2 world class players.

If Milan don't spend 50-60 or more million euros now (and it looks like they won't) then the problems will be bigger next year because you'll still need to spend these money and probably even more because in 2009/2010 Nesta will be 33/34, Gattuso will be 31/32, Ambrosini 32/33, Kaladze 31/32, Inzaghi 36/37, Seedorf 33/34, Pirlo 30/31 etc.

The obvious solution is to give the youngsters a chance NOW, when there is no CL presure.
Pato is a sure bet for the future. This year will be the year when he'll completely secure his starting XI spot.
But you'll need at least 1 or 2 more such guys and that's why i believe that it's extremely important to give playing time to Abate, Paloschi and maybe even few more and then hope that one of them will make it.

Of course, all this is only in case Milan don't plan/can't spend huge this summer.

And one last thing, Inzaghi is certainly not a diver.
:haha:
Neither is Nedved. I don't know why the people are so cruel and call them divers.

Giancarlo

I think it is important we get a squad that is able to contend for the Scudetto. This could include younger players. I also think it is important we reinforce our ranks. I think that the older players will have a part in the team for years to come. However, I also think we must settle for players aged 22-30 right now as far as other positions... I strongly think we should get Eto'o (27), Schweinsteiger (23) or Arshavin (27)... we have to strike a balance and have a very mixed team. Getting an entirely youth based team will destine us to failure because of consistency issues... but we must have room for the future....

How is Inzaghi a diver? I'd like to hear it. So why are you laughing at that comment?

Either way, I still think we should sign another goalkeeper too... some have forgot about that... a good goalkeeper can save our team and sometimes even get us a full three points when it is a close game... a bad goalkeeper can cost games.

I'm up really late tonight... but left the computer on. Have a good night everyone (depending where you are).

TBH, in last 2 seasons, especially in the last one, he's like a different player, but he was hillarious in Juve and in the first 3 or 4 seasons with Milan. He was diving all the time, trying to cheat for a penalty.

Absolutely, but not more than 1 or 2 youngsters are in Kaka/Pato level and Ancelotti knows that he can't find 11 such players just like he knows that some less talented players will need to play.

It's not only Ancelotti who does that. Everyone in Italy (top 4 clubs) does the same thing.
If you think about it, Juve did the same. Ranieri gave a chance to all the youngsters but he gave them 6 months or 1 year because Juventus, just like Milan, can not afford to continue with an experiment for more than a year.
Criscito failed and he was loaned in January, Nocerino failed and he was sold to Palermo, Palladino failed and he's about to go to Genoa, Molinaro was bad and Juve are looking for a new LB..
Chiellini impressed in his first season as Cb and he's in Juve to stay.

All Ancelotti needs to do is to give the youngsters a chance. Then it's up to them if they'll take their chances or not.
Kaka and Pato did so they stay. Pirlo did it, Gattuso did it and they became all time greats.
Gourcuff didn't and he's out, just like many before him.
Paloschi did take his chance. If you keep him and he plays great as he did last year then maybe Milan won't even need a new attacker and you save +30m which can be used for other areas.

I'm saying that this is a perfect time when Ancelotti can afford to give a chance to more youngsters.

Agreed and Eto'o has wonderful control and first touch....these days he is trying to shoot from distance which is always welcome too :respect: And I agree the Adebayor is wasteful....but then again so were many great strikers
Neither is Nedved. I don't know why the people are so cruel and call them divers. I know!!! Nedved and Pippo suffer from a rare disease called HCGS (high centre of gravity syndrome) and people keep making fun of them :depress:

I agree 99.8% with your comments.

I only disagree about the amount of 30m supposed to be saved.

To sign Eto,at least till yesterday, Milan needed 120m. 40m to Barcellona + 10M nett yearly for a contract of 4 years = 40M + 40M tax.

Absolutely, but not more than 1 or 2 youngsters are in Kaka/Pato level and Ancelotti knows that he can't find 11 such players just like he knows that some less talented players will need to play.........

.......I'm saying that this is a perfect time when Ancelotti can afford to give a chance to more youngsters. Great post (didn't quote the full thing for space saving) but I'm not sure I agree.....To me the only place to truly test out the younger, eventual fulltime squad members is either the Copa Italia OR the Uefa Cup - two tournaments the fans are less demanding..........to do this in the league could be potentially suicidal....In fact it happens to Arsenal a lot with their younger players who start of in blazing hot form but lack the experience to take them through the long haul.

And NO I don't think that Milan needs or could buy 5 superstars this or any season.....but from a fan's perspective it's been a long time since we've gotten a star let alone a superstar in a necessary position. After our disappointments this year now is the time to do what is PROVEN to work.....i.e. assemble a team of proven stars and mount a title challenge....NOT to try out wildcard player who may or may not ever make the grade.

Our time to experiment was LAST season.....after we won the CL.....with the recent success fresh in mind the fans wouldn't mind a season of necessary rebuilding and the testing out of the young players...especially Milan fans who are known for their reasonableness.

Finally Juventus' re-building programme was in no way similar. You guys were playing decidedly inferior opponents. So even if a player sucked bigtime.....in the GRAND scheme of things...i.e. your title/promotion objective it didn't matter. Milan is STILL in SerieA with a reinforced Roma/Inter/Juve and Fiorentina waiting to push us back in fifth again. Now's not the time to take risks.

Milan: perso Adebayor, riaffiora Eto'o

Looks more like a mastermind game between the top clubs than calciomercato!!!!!!

Yes, it roughly says that since Milan have lost Adebayor, they are renewing their pursual of Eto'o.

Eto'o says that he always decides his own future.

Also, Barca are going to offer Ade 6 million a year and a 5 year contract, while giving Arsenal 31 million euros for his services.

I dont want Eto'o..I did not like way he rejected us last year when we wanted him..to him Milan are just any ordinary club and not a great one, he does not like appreciate us enough like the rest of the footballers (I'm judging this on interviews I've seen).. and if he really wants 6m per season then to hell with him. I wouldnt be happy to see that he is earning more than Pirlo/Nesta/Pato/Rino/Maldini. I also was very disappointed with his performances late last year. Ofcourse I ain't saying lets go for Adebayor (who I think is going to be a waste of money and space), but at least Adebayor wants to join Milan and only Milan (according to reports).

I'd gladly take back Sheva over those two as back in the day he was much better than them both. But it definitely would be a gamble, who knows if he could get back to his form. If the option of Arshavin opens up, I'd say lets go for it (even though I prefer us to go for Zhurkov, but it seems that we will not be getting any LBs).

Calcio Debate: Milan Must Go For Drogba
AC Milan have been heavily linked with a host of top-class forwards this summer, but James Gisone argues that Didier Drogba is the man they should be going for...

With the transfer market in full swing, and plenty of deals and rumours to keep many of us occupied, one of the more interesting storylines is taking place in the red half of Milan.

Since the end of their dismal Serie A season, the Rossoneri have identified the signing of a top class striker as priority number one. The likes of Juventus, Inter, Roma and Fiorentina are in the midst of strengthening their squad further and if Milan fail to sign a top class forward, then they run the risk of being left behind by their competitors.

Newly appointed Inter Coach Jose Mourinho already has a wealth of striking talent to choose from, while Juventus added the underrated Amauri to the already prolific Bianconeri attack. Meanwhile Roma seem content to head into this season with the status quo, as their ownership situation will surely play a huge part in their transfer market activity. Even Fiorentina can boast a more reliable strike force than Milan with Mutu, Gilardino, Pazzini, and Osvaldo.

What is clear is that a big club such as the Diavoli need to have a forward that will strike fear into their opponent. The current group of Pato, Inzaghi, Borriello, and Paloschi is strong but is it one that will help lead them to the Scudetto?

I personally don’t think so.

Undoubtedly Alexandre Pato is a fantastic talent and will have a very good season but at the age of 19 he cannot be counted on to lead the charges. Paloschi on the other hand is still a developing and raw talent, which means that, either he will be loaned out or reduced to playing insignificant minutes. Marco Borriello is a risk, and with no risk there is no reward. The Rossoneri have nothing to lose by bringing him back after a fantastic season with Genoa as he could definitely be a late bloomer. But also remember that at one time this was a player who was considered the crowned jewel of the Milan youth system, but he never really capitalized on that potential and ended up being banned for a year after testing positive for drugs.

My personal favorite of the group is Pippo Inzaghi. This player is the master poacher and he works extremely well with Kaka but at the age of 34 he no longer has it in him to handle the wear and tear of an entire season or to play a full 90 minutes. I’m sure there will be many that will point to his goal scoring rampage at the end of the season last year as evidence that firstly he should’ve be in this Azzurri squad, and secondly he could handle the main striking duties for Milan.

But ask yourself, is he really the player you want to pin your hopes on? What do you do next when he inevitably gets injured and misses extended periods of action? His role will most definitely be crucial to the Rossoneri purpose next season. But his role should be as a game changer; the guy who comes on with 20 minutes left to play and rips through the opponents defence with his darting and well-timed runs.

A big, strong, powerful striker is exactly what this team lacks at the moment, a player with the ability to play with his back to goal and hold the ball up for his teammates. Someone who will create space for Pato and Kaka to work their magic in the open field, while he gets into the box to get on the end of a cross or a through ball.

There have been many names thrown into the mix as Samuel Eto’o, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Didier Drogba have all been linked to the Rossoneri and have expressed their desire to wear the Diavolo jersey. Eto’o is a fantastic player but his slight frame, recent legal troubles, and injury history make him a risky acquisition especially for the transfer fee required and annual wage cost.

Adebayor had a great season but I couldn’t help but notice how many chances he squandered this season. He really could have scored 40 goals had he not wasted so many clear-cut opportunities. But my biggest fear with the Togo international is the fact that he is commanding a huge fee for just one very good season. That is exactly what the Rossoneri have in Borriello and surely they don’t need to take another unnecessary risk.

Drogba is the logical choice and one that will provide immediate return on investment. His appetite for winning is as strong as ever and with the window quickly closing on him, there is no better time than now to move to most successful club in the world.
Could you imagine a line-up with Drogba, Pato;Kaka; Pirlo, Flamini, Gattuso;Zambrotta, Maldini, Nesta, Jankulovski? Would there be a better line-up in Italy than that? How about Europe

Good for him...idiot rode Pippo's back through qualifying and then left him out of the squad that went to the Euro's.

Who else can score a big goal with 15 minutes to go in a game. You don't take a chance on Boriello to sub for Toni when Toni is not performing, but you can bring in Pippo to steal you a goal in that situation. He's proven and has done it before!!!

From the decision to leave out Pippo in favour of Boriello I knew two things would happen...Italy would under acheive and Donadoni would get fired!!!

it is not always about spending, but i still wish we would stop being so cheap, I know milan is a richer club than bayern, but last year, twhen they had a bad season, they spent and got Toni, Ribery, and Klose, all world class player, and seing as we got Flamini for Free, i taught that would pave the way for more signings.

he never mentioned italy. he just said he dreams of spain and barca. I think he just views english style of football as.....well.......unskillful. Thats the reason the only english club he's considering is arsenal. I think if milan came in we'd have an opportunity. When berlu and galliani legitimately go after players.... pato... nesta... they tend to win. Remeber, barca, madrid, chelsea were all bidding heavily on pato.

I apologise for lashing out but both myself and Hassan thought you were being sarcastic. Madrid and Inter have proven that buying the wrong stars don't win you trophies but to their credit they have kept trying and eventually the success came......essentially Madrid have done the unthinkable in 1firing Del Bosque, 2selling Makalele and 3replacing him with Beckham :stupid: We're not much behind if we sold $hevchelski, replaced him with Olivera, then Gila and haven't found a proper replacement for Stam. But the thing is we haven't even signed a big name that would help generate revenue to support or at least cushion the purchase of other necessary team fixtures....If we are sooo ca$h strapped as we claim to be why not invest in a player who would generate more income for the club? It was rumored that Real made back Beckham's transfer fee within the year they bought him.

Imagine if we suck it up, buy Ronaldinho(bad example since most probably he would get all of his own image rights) or another star of similar stature....we would certainly generate income from shirt sales. Even if the player owns his image rights....it serves to "put us back on the map as it were" in terms of drawing additional attention to us. Yeah a bunch of gloryhunters/phans and fanboys might infiltrate our ranks but it's these who make up the MAJORITY of jersey/merchandise market. If we need ca$h we need to learn to make ca$h and not be satisfied with the present level of the funds we have to operate with.

I am not wiser than anyone in managment or even on this forum.... nor will I even claim to understand the transfer market nearly as good as the dumbest person there. i think instead of 'stars' we need more players like pato or kaka when he joined (i know... not asking alot) but i mean this in the way that they r budding recognized talent.... ie talent other teams want, not antonini or another player who is only being pursued by catania and genoa.

The problem with stars is unless they r super hungry. we'll still suffer same problem when we go to atalanta, palermo etc etc. Players like gattuso, pirlo, oddo etc quite frankly couldnt give a **** about playing those games.... it shows. Here's my big problem with our mercato. Our management is bringing in players they clearly don't think will succeed, soley because they r at a good price. Going into this mercato, changes were promised. Management acknowledged we needed changes upfront and in the back. Now lets put flamini aside. He was not in an area of major need (comparatively) however when he was out of contract and free transfer, it was too good to pass up. so I'll give B&G credit for jumping on that.

Zambrotta also, i'll consider our other good aquisition. He's not young. But he is still a top WB. Something our tactics is dependant upon (which makes me wonder why we dont spend more on them).

But aside from that, the signings have been a joke. Borriello. I know some people (giancarlo) think he will be amazing. But i have to ask you this. If milan is convinced in his ability, why are we trying SO HARD to sign another player with his same characteristics (a first striker). If borriello was really as good as huntelaar and a player with the abilities to lead the line, why do we need anotheR? We already have pippo. Pippo can still play at the highest level, albiet not as many games. but if borriello is really a frontline striker, why would we need a 3rd? You cant really play borriello and pippo together. Now if we get eto'o (just an ex.) do you think eto'o + borriello/pippo will work? NO neither drop back or really create for others. we'd have 2 guys who like to sit in box and arent really good passers or creaters... something thats not very effective.

So obviously management does not have faith in borriello's abilities. Which beckons the question... WHY BRING HIM BACK IN THE FIRST PLACE?! why not just sell him, and bring a striker capable of playing both higher up and a more subdued roll (quagliarella comes to mind, ronaldo could do it if he ever came to health...etcetcetc)

I dont see the point in having 3 strikers who play same position and are uncapable of switching positions. w/ pato... you know he can move uptop at times, or back to AM if needed. Pippo, borriello, 'player x' r all just strikers uptop. We'd have 3 players sharing games at 1 position. In my opinion it would just be more logical to have 2 strikers who can drop, and 2 who play more uptop....

My personal theory is our management knows borriello is not good enough. However at the price, we'll sign him just to fill a number and be able to gloat in the media we signed 2nd highest scorer in serie A blahblahblah. What they should know, is to really please the fan they should field a winner

I posted this over in the Kaka' thread, but i think it merits some worth here, as it might be a longer-term problem to deal with (as it keeps coming up mercato after mercato where some big team wants him).

Does anyone else have any concern about what Kaka' is thinking about the club right now? First, i think there has been some anger about this past season; he was worn down and looked unhappy and frustrated at many times. Then, in some of his words it sounded like milan forced him to have the operation. And he doesn't seem thrilled about not being able to go to the olympics, it still keeps coming up. Now, the mercato has been a bit toilet and all i see is another year of kaka' having to shoulder the responsibility. we're trying to keep him and make him the symbol of the team, yet does it seem like we are doing what we need to keep him motivated? What must he think when other teams are after him, with lots of talent around him, and he's going to pass to simic or borriello or brocchi for another year? mostly just my nervous paranoia setting in, but i don't want another saga of 'kaka to madrid/chelsea' next year.

i think this is a large reason, milan was pushing for dinho... to keep him happy. He is a loyal man, and i think looks happy more than not. But i agree w/ you. another season fighting for 4th, and i think he'll begin to ponder his future.

He is a smart man though, he realizes over the long haul since he came hes won more w/ milan than he would at most any other club. And off years happen. The key is to not let it happen again.

YES!!!

And I don't think it's nervous paranoia...he brought much success to Milan. His desires should count for something. He came to Milan when they had experienced players now entering, just in, or just coming out of their prime.

Now the face and the fell of the team has changed. You have to wonder if he'll re-think in a few years not making a move to another team (R.Madrid) if things continue like this for some time in the future.:(

Genoa have announced the signings of Anthony Vanden Boore and Raffaele Palladino from Fiorentina and Juventus respectively, although only the former transfer is official as of yet.

We have Dida, Kalac, Fiori, Abbiatti why would we need ANOTHER ONE :eekani: ....what are you? Some kinda keeper collecting enthusiast or something :googly: What we DO need are more CDM's/CMs you know to reinforce the Brocchi, Emerson, Pirlo, Ambrosini, Flamini, Gattuso departement where we're obviously paper thin

wow, i feel the sarcasm spraying out.

Abbiati and Storari, are not even qualified to challenge Kalac for #1.

Dida being our best, but most accident prone keeper, also wouldnt make him #1, and hence kalac, who is all that good.

Dida should go, and so should Abbiati. I would prefer Hislop to Storari, but he (storari), could be our 3rd String Keeper)

Boruc is the best keeper available, and i would love the collection of Boruc, Kalac, Storari.

Just look at Boruc's play on Euro 2008. He saved our asses from complete defeat! : O

Inhale deeply dru...sounds like u REALLLY need it.

Relax...I have said too many times that I am not happy with the way management operate in the mercato, nor am I happy with the protracted nature of the negotiations....

I do however, refuse to be dispondent about it..seeing as there is little or nothing I can do to influence their decision making process.

Further, I refuse to place post after post saying the same thing....
we need...,
we should get...,
why don't we sign...,
can't believe we still haven't signed..
Galliani should shut up..etc etc.

I do believe though, that before the mercato closes, we will see a "major" aquisition, or two...as its obvious that we are trying for it...

I said in a previous post that I think Galliani is @ the "hardball" section of the negotiating process, and hence the rhetoric.

Payne: thanks for the info re the bullet sent to the Milan office...did u state the source? Can't remember.

This is for me...ridiculous behaviour, which I do not condone, nor sympathise with in the least.

I am fully against the use of violence, whether by threat or action, to achieve one's onjective.

Were I Berlu, I would ban all ultra groups, (my assumption is that one or more of them is behind this) forget the choreos and whatever else they bring to the atmosphere of the games, and open up the San Siro to families.

Families can sing too.

It may be our only choice and I think he can learn how to appreciate us. He scored 18 times in 22 appearances last season (why he played less is because of the surplus of attacking options in Barca's bench). Eto'o simply is a better player than Adebayor...

Good post Tony but I think the situations with Milan and Juve are a bit different. Juve lost some of their stars when they dropped to Serie B while Milan haven't really lost any of their stars. If Juve still had Cannavaro, Thuram and Zambrotta then Chiellini Criscito etc will most likely have got much less time on the pitch. Same with Palladino if Zlatan never left. Therefore the time was just perfect for some experimenting with lineups, players and such.

Milan on the other hand have all their stars PLUS a coach who's reluctant to give younger players chances (Aubameyang...primavera top scorer, Gourcuff..former French U-21 captain and had a great U-19 tournament as well...Paloschi who Carlo tried to find ways and means NOT to play... etc) Chances of a guy like Darmian getting chances next season are slim to none.

Here we go again the transfer season hasn't even begun yet, and you're back at making conclusions. Changes are being made. We can't put Flamini aside as that was a big acquirement. We have reinforced the defense and midfield. I'm in favor of one more defender and one or two more strikers at least... however the midfield is now packed and anything else would be considered surplus.

However, I would also not be against signing an attacking midfielder to help supplement Seedorf.

How have they been a joke? Many of these signings are to reinforce the flanks and defense. Like Antonini... with logic like your own, Milan wouldn't have any young Italians in their ranks. I never said Borriello would be amazing. Stop trying to speak for me. Borriello needs to play with another striker. Huntelaar in my opinion is overrated. I say we go for the striker who is world class, that being Samuel Eto'o. If you're trying to claim that I said that we were all set, you're incorrect. That's why we need Eto'o/Borriello, or Eto'o/Pippo. Of course I'd also like an attacking midfielder.

We need another striker, because even I will admit that Pippo is getting older and he was injured most of the season. He's a great player, but I think his abilities should be saved for the UEFA Cup as we should really take that seriously.

Did the management ever say that? Best to have a surplus of strikers, not a lack. We had a problem with a lack of strikers for a part of this season, and that's why we had to bring Paloschi from the youth squad. I would be happy to see Ronaldo back... but we just need another striker to have that cutting edge.

Eto'o never really had any major injury concerns... the reason why he didn't play so often I think was more personal conflict between him and other players... Barcelona is just a huge mess... an organizational nightmare.

If we want a reliable strong striker he is the one.

in 2006-2007 he ruptured his meniscus and missed 3-4 months. Hence only 19 starts. I thought he had a couple nagging injuries beginning of season too.

on the plus side. He is a spanish citizen now. so he wont take a non-eu spot!

on the borriello front.... he makes no sense. He doesnt have enough skills to play w/ anyone upfront except pato. The way i see it, if pato gets hurt at all. we'll prolly go back to 4-3-2-1. I just dont think pippo, borriello and (lets assume) eto'o can play together... thats my problem. I'd rather have a more dynamic striker in his place who can play both positions. But management is signing a striker who will play his EXACT position... hencee they dont think he can be a starter

How could you even say any of this? I'm not that quick to discredit Borriello. I think he would do fine with another striker. I think Eto'o is pretty dynamic and can play with any of those players. Eto'o has played with plenty of other strikers in Barcelona...
